A running annoyance, Elsa, a concert and a fancy picnic.

And one of my biggest annoyances on the treadmill—>  When I accidentally bump the stop button and then I have to stop when I am in my groove, start all over again and then do a bunch of math (okay, just some simple addition) in order to figure out how far to go.

I thought I was going to feel tired and sluggish on my run yesterday because I stayed up way too late on Friday night but once I got going I just kind of kept going and felt great (and a lot better than my Friday morning run—>  that one was one of ’those’ runs). 10 miles @ around an 8:01 pace.

I literally got ready in 4 minutes because we had an important date to go meet Elsa.  Yogurtland was doing a fundraiser for the Food and Care Coalition and they donated all of their sales yesterday!  Pretty awesome.

Brooke was very shy for some reason around Elsa even though she talks about her daily.

IMG 0084

Later on in the day we went to an outdoor shopping center to see ELLERY preform.  This little girl is beyond incredible.  She has PCD (Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia) and she is doing everything possible to raise awareness for PCD and she donates all of her proceeds from her music to the PCD Foundation.

IMG 0027

Rebecca (my running buddy when I actually get to run outside) is Ellery’s mom.  Such an awesome family!

IMG 0040

Dinner was some a super fancy picnic with my sister and her kiddos.

IMG 0104

Followed by a churro while watching some soccer.

IMG 0105

And after the game I spent the rest of my Saturday night deep cleaning my apartment. You know those cleaning modes where you can’t stop until everything is perfect?  That was last night.

IMG 0050

Excited for everyone running NYCM next Sunday!  Can’t wait to see how Kara does!

I ran NYCM last year and had a great and enjoyable time!

I’ve hit the stop button so many times on the treadmill. I’ve also punched the treadmill and gave myself bruises. I tend to run so far forward on that thing. That being said I do enjoy the treadmill. I choose outdoors over treadmill but I don’t mind the mill.

I hate cleaning so much hahaha. There is no part I enjoy.

I love cleaning the entire house except the bathrooms (my husband does those). It’s refreshing when it’s all done.

Today is my son’s baptism then family lunch at our place. It’s my rest day from running and training since I was at a fitness conference all day yesterday and workout for blue 6 hours…Phew.

What are your thoughts on treadmill running? I ask because my podiatrist said it’s actually not good for people who have had injuries especially foot ones. I was told not to walk or run on one with my foot injury this year. Apparently the risk of re injury is much greater on a treadmill. Sometimes you have no other option though. Random thought. Now I need to clean or find a cleaning lady. Being injured all year has made it hard to keep up with the house stuff.

Reply

I actually ended up “breaking up with my treadmill” after 6 years of only running on it. My PT and I decided it was contributing to my injuries so I have moved my runs outside or indoor track. Funny thing, though, is that my PT ended up buying it from me! It was such a nice model and the one they had was really old. So I get to still see it from time to time & I am happy it’s in a clinic that is helping make people healthy.

I like cleaning the bathroom but hate cleaning anything with loads of clutter

I am running NYC this year. I’m hoping my IT band holds out. I’m pretty annoyed that it is acting up right at the end. Nothing “hurts” yet but I’m sure it will next weekend :-(

Right now I’m icing….and will follow that with more ice and possibly visiting some dinosaurs at the museum

I don’t like cleaning, but I like it when things are clean. The bathroom is definitely my least favorite room to clean – I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite.

I am hoping to get to run the NYCM in the next few years. I definitely won’t qualify for guaranteed entry though, so fingers crossed on the lottery!

I am not sure what I’m doing today. I think I’m going to do a little yoga and think about some job hunting…

Can you share your nail polish color in the churro pic? I love it!

The treadmill stopping is the worst!

The treadmills at my gym like to tell me it has been enough after 1 hour – They automatically go to cool down mode and I have to restart my time – the worst is that sometimes I believe them and just finish my run early ;)

Reply

I did one of those cleanings on Friday…it feels so good when it’s done!

I would LOVE to do NYC one day!

Reply

I am running NYC this year!! Its my first marathon and I am SO nervous! Any tips are much appreciated :)

Reply

I did NYC in 2008 too and got superrrrr sick during it, it
Took me 6+ hours to finish, it was awful! I don’t know if I would go back again.

I can’t wait to see how Kara does, she is such a huge inspiration!

I love the deep clean cleaning modes, it feels soooo good when you’re finally finished!!

I hate cleaning. I am a neat freak so I do clean often but I don’t like it at all! Especially trying to dust around my son’s room and all his stuff lol…I haven’t run the NYCM but my dad did a few times when I was a kid and my cousin is running on Sunday!

Reply

I’m running NYC this year! It’ll be my second marathon. I’m SO excited but have the usual nerves too.

Reply

I hate cleaning. I’ve tried to fight it but I just have to force myself to when I desperately need to. The bathroom is definitely the worst, the kitchen the least offensive.

My kids are usually shy around dressed up characters, even the ones they love. Although you just did Disney so Brooke should be used to it! Maybe Brooke was a little star struck :)

Reply

you are always doing fun things and your sis looks awesome!

I got to meet Kara about a year ago when she randomly showed up at this small local race. It was so small I think I’m the only one who recognized her. Besides, it’s fun to say that I took second to her in a race. She and her husband were so nice and their little boy was a sweetheart!

Reply

I just got to Chicago to visit my dad and today I’m going to see his new house and then to dinner with my best friend!! My favourite room to clean is the bathrooms, weirdly enough but my least favourite is my room, it’s always such a mess that I don’t even know where to start! Have a great Sunday :)

Reply

Haha I get in those moods too when you just HAVE to clean :) I actually like to clean kitchens and bathrooms but the rest, forget it. I hate vacuuming!

Reply

My gym has a 30 minute treadmill limit if there are other people waiting so if I want to run more than 4 miles, I definitely can’t do it at the gym!

Reply

(I learned this the hard way when I had to stop in the middle of what was supposed to be an 8 mile run!)

Reply

Haven’t ran for a week and I’m itching so bad to go! Hearing about your awesome run makes me so jealous!

Today it’s my dad’s birthday so we’re going over there for dinner! An awesome meal where I don’t have to cook –> yes please.

Reply

I generally love to clean, I’m with you, kitchen is the best, bathroom is the worst.

I leave for NYC on Friday! Excited to FINALLY get to run there; I’ve only been registering for it since 2009!

I am currently taking a break from pulling up carpet padding and staples so we can put down hard wood flooring. Right now its a pain, I keep reminding myself that it will be worth it!

Have a great Sunday!

Reply

Also, I love your shoes in the Elsa picture!

Reply

I like to clean anything when it involves organization. It is a stress reliever to me to sort things out and put them away. I hate the bathroom, always have always a will.
Today I have church and just plan on taking it easy. My legs are pretty sore from my half yesterday, but I got a 4 minute PR!

Reply

ME! It was my first Marathon in 2013 and I can’t wait for next Sunday to run it again. I’m overly excited to say the least.

Reply

I was in a cleaning moof yesterday too and couldn’t stop until at least the bathroom and all the hardwood floors were clean. Ha!
Today = church, aunt’s baby shower, Hocus Pocus movie night.

Reply

I love cleaning my room. It feels so good to finish and see it all neat and clean :)
Oooh accidentally bumping into the stop thingy on the treadmill is also one of my biggest annoyances, too!

Reply

I hate cleaning in general – I think I suck at it. We’re hiring someone to come in once or twice a month to help me with stuff, but it’s definitely something I’m working on.

Reply

LOVE your red Brooks!
I’m with you…I like cleaning the kitchen…bathrooms, not so much.
I’ve never run NYCM, but it’s on my bucket list.
Today, I’m going to get a new iphone and make good luck gift bags for my friends running NY!

Reply

First of all, I love Ellery’s name and she is drop dead gorgeous. Watch out Mom and Dad when she hits high school ;)

My fav room to clean is the kitchen, but my fav thing to clean is the floors because for whatever reason it makes the house feel cleaner. I hate toilets. Blech.

I have my niece today while the hubs is at a Pokemon tournament with our kids (he’s pretty awesome) so I was thinking about taking the girls to see “The Box Trolls” and to lunch & yogurt and maybe a park. Fun day planned.

Reply

I’m so with you on cleaning the kitchen, unless there’s something monstrous to do like clean out the freezer or something. And doing laundry is my faaaaavourite thing, give me laundry over scrubbing anything any day. I will fold things for hours on end.

I wish I was running NYCM oh my god, someday I’ll get to do it! It’s one of my bucket list races.

Reply

I should sign up for an Elsa gig like that because EVERY time I wear my hair in a side braid, everyone and their mother calls me Elsa. Sidenote: I actually used to work with two sisters named Ana and Elsa–craziness.
That churro. I need that churro.

Reply

No favorite room to clean, but I tolerate the kitchen and despise the bathroom ;) Actually, if I ever had the opportunity to take my time, no time restraints (like guests showing up in an hour), and no kids around, then I would say I don’t mind cleaning – but that little scenario never happens!

That little girl is amazing!! It is so incredible to hear about kids battling illness and helping others – they really are so much stronger and more resilient than adults :)

Today, ALL DAY, I’m making our costumes – the whole family is dressing up as Frozen (including the dog!). In fact, now that I’ve got some coffee in me, I gotta put down the phone and get to work!

Reply

I love CLEANING the bathroom, sometimes the kitchen, but like TIDYING my bedroom. Funny, I only like CLEANING places I can get clean, like places I can get wet then wash down, but I can’t sleep until my room is tidy.

Today = trying a new church this morning, getting my eyebrows threaded, going for a run and getting an early night because I start my first ever full time job in the morning!

Reply

I don’t care for cleaning any particular room but I love vacuuming. I find it very relaxing. Today I hope to get in a trail run if I can talk my daughter into hanging out with her cousins so I can run. She has cried twice about me leaving her already this morning.

Reply

As I type this I am looking around my house trying to figure out what I am going to tackle first. I hate when I press stop on the treadmill on accident too. It’s happenend a few times for me. So annoying.

Reply

I don’t like cleaning ANY room haha, but if I had to choose it would be the kitchen.

I hit the emergency stop button on my treadmill all the time, so annoying!!! I’m trying to run less on the treadmill in general now though. During the summer it’s so hot here that I end up doing a lot of running on it, so now I’m enjoying our nice cold 75 degree weather :D

Reply

Churros and soccer sounds like a pretty great combination.

I’m going into work this afternoon. It’ll only be for a couple hours so I still get to enjoy most of my Sunday.

Reply

Ooohh I hit the emergency stop button on the treadmill all the time- drives me crazy.

I can’t honestly say that I ‘like’ cleaning any room, but the kitchen isn’t so bad (I also hate cleaning the bathroom). Today was my cleaning day…and my apartment really needed it!

This morning was my long run, and this afternoon I’m baking an apple pie. Not a bad Sunday!

Reply

One time last year, I was about to PR by 30 seconds but as I was approaching the 3 mile Mark I accidentally knocked off the button, and I swear it’s the most annoying thing!

Reply

I hate cleaning both the kitchen and the bathroom because no matter how much i scrub them they never look clean! I like to vacuum because then the carpet actually looks clean.
I’ve never run the NYCM but I would love to do it someday!

Reply

I love those shoes you’re wearing in the Elsa pic! I want them!

My day is cleaning and laundry after a crazy mountain run yesterday. Maybe some easy miles this evening.

Reply

I am running NY on Sunday! It’ll be my third NYC and 11th marathon! I am super excited! NYC is amazing, but even more so on marathon day!

Reply

I like cleaning MY room because I like hanging out there the most. I dislike cleaning the kitchen…dishes…blehhhhhhh. We finally got cleaning help so now it’s not too bad for me…just a lot of tidying which is just fine :) And yes! Messing up timing devices is super annoying! Today is a lazy day…only two kids home and nothing on the agenda. Maybe a movie? Maybe making cookies? And at some point I’ll jump on the rowing machine :)

Reply

Hi! Cleaning on a Saturday night? Now that sounds fun! I’m in Florida visiting my family this weekend and am having a great time. It’s nice to be taken care of by my Momma for a few days. I’ll never get too old for that. Have a lovely Sunday night! :)

Reply

I’ve never had a churro before – need to try one of those!

Today we’re taking it easy and spending time together as a family :) The little guy is napping so I should probably take one, too. I’m not running NYCM but would love to some day!

Reply

Ugh hitting the stop button is the worst! Yet another reason I despise the treadmill.

I am so so so excited to spectate the NYC Marathon!!! I was out of town last year for it and will finally get to experience the city’s excitement surrounding the big day. Bummer I didn’t get into the lottery to run it though :(

Reply

Fun fact: Kara Goucher is on Strava. I follow her and am in awe of her “ordinary” runs. Can’t wait to see her splits from NYC!

Reply

Ran a 5k with my kids, then ran 7 miles home from the race! It was my 6 year-old daughter’s 1st 5k outside of a jogging stroller!

Go Kara! My favorite pro athlete!

Reply

Ellery is so beautiful!!

Trick question, no one should love cleaning. But I don’t mind cleaning the bathroom actually … least favorite is folding laundry. It stays wadded up in a pile till I need something in there. Which then leads to me having to iron, coincidentally my second least favorite chore. First world problems.

I ran my second half marathon and got my goal of running under 2 hours!!!!!!! Pretty happy right now and enjoying being lazy the remainder of the day (while staring at a heap of clean laundry)

Reply

Oh my cleaning! Favorite? Goodness I’m not sure about favorite but the one I feel like I am constantly cleaning is our kitchen. That space could always be cleaner!

This weekend we are relaxing and have no big plans which is fabulous. I did get in a good 8 mile run yesterday! Fall running is the best.

Go you for getting those treadmill miles in!

Reply

I don’t mind cleaning any room except the kitchen. Oh how I wish we had a dishwasher!

Reply

I am running NYC this year as well! It is my first marathon and I am so excited!

Favorite room to clean in my house is my closet. I love organizing and reorganizing, putting together new outfit combinations. My least favorite is the bathroom.

NYC is on my bucket list. It would be a pretty expensive trip and race for me to do, but I think it would be worth it if I could make a vacation out of it.

Reply

SO sweet about your friends daughter such a big heart to do a benefit concert. Beautiful child.
I am relaxing and procrastinating cleaning my toilets those are the worst but while I clean I try to remind myself what many people in the world would do to even have 1 and I have 3…

Reply

I woudl love to run the NYCM one day! Lots of hurdles to get there (working up to a marathon, I’m going to assume qualifying time, getting a spot and oh yeah, I live on the other side of the world), but still one of those things on my running bucket list.

Hmmm I don’t think there is really a room I like to clean! lol I’m happy to wash floors though.

Reply

I want brooke’s parrot shirt in my size…just sayin’ ;)

Reply

Bathroom is DEF my least favorite room to clean. I’m with you on that one. I love cleaning my kitchen because it feels like it’s the place I spend the most time in, so I really get to enjoy it once it’s clean!

Reply

Loving cleaning the general areas and ORGANIZING. I’m a weird OCD neat freak when it comes to organization. But I hate cleaning the bathrooms. That’s my husband’s job :P

I hit that stop button on the treadmill all the time. I hate it!

Reply

I am so not a cleaner!! Hubby cleans, I cook. It’s our unspoken agreement!

Reply

This may sound odd but my favorite room to clean is the bathroom. I clean it way more than my other rooms so it’s always the cleanest. I guess maybe I just think it won’t be as bad if I keep up on it of something? I’m not sure. I just want to make sure that area is always presentable for guests!

Reply

I hate cleaning the bathroom. I like cleaning the living room. When it’s clean i relax more. I ran NYCM in 2011 too! It was my first full marathon!

Reply

I enjoy cleaning. Love cleaning the kitchen and vacuuming; loath dusting and doing the laundry (I love folding the laundry, but really do not like walking to the laundromat).

My running club will be cheering for the runners at NYCM Sunday! We will be there welcoming everyone to Queens. Good luck to everyone running! So excited!

Reply

I love your nail polish color in the picture with the churro. What color and brand?

Reply

I was in one of those cleaning moods last night! Usually the kitchen is my favorite area to clean, also– but our current apartment has terrible counter tops (they’re literally PAINTED counters, ugh) so it’s not fun to clean. ha!

Reply

Thank you for sharing Ellerys link! I was so impressed by that little girl, such a talented and strong young lady!

Reply

I ran New York last year 18wks after having my little girl. I even stopped to nurse her at mile 18!

I hate cleaning bathrooms. We’re getting new toilets and the master bath is getting a mini-makeover. I’m hoping that will help inspire me to clean them more often. lol!

Reply

I hate cleaning the bathroom. if it were just my mess it wouldn’t be bad, but its not!

I am a fan of Kara’s but I am super pumped to see how Desiree Linden (Davilla) does!!!

Reply

I ran NYCM last year and had an amazing time.

Reply

I NEEDED this post start today! Because I did the EXACT same treadmill thing this morning…but TWICE. I pulled off the emergency magnet twice, both without knowing how far I had run before doing so. I think it was around a mile total, but that using the clock on the wall as my gage (because I think I remembered the time of when I first started running). Never again!! I was totally careful after those two times. Live and learn!

Reply

I am finally running it this year after paying for it and having to defer in 2012 and 2013…sooo excited!!

Reply

I ran NYC last year..my first marathon…and it was fine. I learned a lot for future marathons: I’m not a big race kinda girl (weaving and weaving) and I hated having to wait at the start for hours and the whole transportation to the start.

Mmm, that churro looks delicious, haha
