10 Things That My Eyeballs Saw Last Night

New HRG Baby post—> 2 years OLD!!!

10 Things That My Eyeballs Saw Last Night.

1.  These cookies that I made.  My friend Megan sent me a picture of these cookies the other night and I knew I had to make them myself—>  candy corn on your cookies?  Doesn’t get much better.

Recipe straight from the source:

Cream together 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar with 2 sticks of softened butter until smooth. Beat the crap out of it (like for 5 min). Then add the 2 eggs and beat together again until combined. Add 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp of baking soda that you have dissolved and mixed into 2 tsp of hot water. Mix  JUST TO COMBINE – DO NOT OVER MIX (that is what makes a flat cookie). Add 3 cups all purpose flour (again, just until combined). Mix in, by hand with a spatula 1 bag of white chocolate chips

Scoop dough using a cookie scoop (or by rounded Tbsp full) onto cookie sheet and freeze for about 15 minutes. I then just take the cookies out 12 at a time and place them on a parchment lined cookie sheet and bake for 9-12 min at 350 (depends on your oven, mine is 10min 15 seconds. Lol) when you pull them out, stick 3 candy corns into the cookie. Let it cool on the cookie sheet for 2min before removing them to cool completely. If you have more time, you can just refrigerate the dough for a couple of hours instead of scooping and freezing the dough.

This makes about 4.5 dozen cookies.”

2.  Attempting to make a photo collage on my wall.   Somebody come help me.  Now.

3.  I saw this scene of Brooke eating popcorn, reading her new book and keeping her dogs close by to her at all times.

IMG 7718

4.  This beautiful slice of pizza that I ate with my mom and Dad at Costco while I was there picking up pictures.

IMG 7722

5.  While at Costco I saw my favorite blanket in the world (Ultimate Sherpa Throw) and it was on sale so of course I had to stock up on them.

IMG 7723

6.  I saw Brooke hugging her best friend goodbye.  These two.

IMG 7721

7.  After putting groceries away I walked over to the couch to see what Brooke was doing and this is what I saw.  She put her blanket like this as she was working on her flashcards.

I think she wants a snuggie.

8.  I saw this shirt and it was awesome.  Another reason to keep up with your endurance training and speed work… You never know when you will be playing tag again.

9.  I saw this article about things to do for the 2 days leading up to your big race.  Great tips and I will be testing some of them out come October 2nd and 3rd (aka the 48 hours before my next marathon).

Big yes to candy corn, but only the original flavor!
I do run in the days leading up to a race but only a few slow miles. It’s more for my mind than my body.
I bought a black bean pasta at Costco and it was actually pretty good!

Reply

I used to obsess over candy corn and totally ignored the sugar-sore-throat it gave me. It’s straight up addictive.

I normally take the day off before a big race and two days before do a short easy run with a few bursts of speed.

Reply

Candy corn is one of my favorite things. A lady I know in Colorado who wins all te races around her town and does ultras told me to start tapering hard at 6 weeks. I followed a plan and tapered at three weeks out but I wondered if I should have listened

Reply

Candy Corn Oreos, I die, seriously they are the best thing ever. It’s the only way I like candy corn.

I always do an easy run the day before a race, a short easy run.

Costco pizza is the best. I had some yesterday.

Reply

Candy corn on cookies yes please!

I always run the day or two before a race. I try for a easy shakeout mile (or two!)

Great tips, thanks for sharing :)

Reply

Candy Corn – Yay! Never tried any of the different flavored ones though. I feel like the originals shouldn’t be improved upon. Weird?

I do try to run the day or two before a race just to shake out my legs, especially if I’ve had to travel for the race (almost always). Sometimes I just don’t get it in, but I do always like being able to do just a few easy miles.

I’m just excited that its finally getting cool enough to use blankets again! :)

Reply

Candy corn is going to get me into some serious trouble this fall! Can’t even put it down.

I need to hit up Costco! The last thing I bought there was my wedding cake, but those blankets would make great Christmas gifts!

Reply

I ran 3 days before the marathon I ran on Sunday and rested the 2 days prior…marathons are tough no matter what. I’m still walking like an old lady. :)

So, I’ve never been to a Costco before. I think I really need to find one.

Reply

I love candy corn, but only the original flavor. Also, weather forecast for Denver says snow…if this is true I’m stocking up on candy corn before Santa shows up.

Reply

We are running our marathons on the same day :) Although mine is my first marathon and I imagine I will finish much slower than you! Thanks for sharing the article on the last 48 hours … I can’t believe October is coming so fast!!

I’m not a candy corn fan, they remind me of little wax teeth! haha

Reply

I’ve never tried candy corn although my American friends tell me it’s the best. It’s probably a good thing, I have enough of a sweet tooth!
Mmm the pizza at costco is amazing!

Reply

I really like normal candy corn as well. I would have never thought about adding it to my cookies but that’s interesting and thanks for sharing!

I didn’t really like my marathon buildup so whenever I run another one, I plan to change it.

Reply

Mmm, those cookies look delicious. I’ve made candy corn cookies before, but the dough was a pumpkin cookie. Perfect for fall. :)

And I’m all about leaving candy corn the way it is. Why mess with a good thing?

Reply

My favorite thing to buy from Costco is definitely their clothes. I’ve found so many great workout clothes there! The best part is telling someone it’s from Costco when they ask if it’s Lululemon :)

Reply

Even though I know it tastes like sugary plastic I freaking love candy corn.

Reply

Oh my goodness…that picture of Brooke is just beyond too cute. She is just so funny. Thanks for sharing that I needed that smile :)

I had to laugh at the question ~ what was the last thing you bought at Costco? because I thought for me and my family ~ what was the last thing you didnt by at Costco…the list would be way short :) Love that place need to stay away from it sometimes.

Did you ever see the Modern Family episode were Mitch and Cam go to Costco….so funny. Season 1 Episode 3 “Come Fly with Me”

Have a great day.

Reply

You’ll be disappointed but I don’t like candy corn…at least not enough to eat it. The last thing I bought at BJ’s (my Costco) was a big box of blueberries! :)
I LOVE that shirt :). I usually run the day before a 1/2 or marathon but just 3 miles and take the day before that off…I have switched it though and taken the day before off and run the day before that.

Reply

Can you believe I’ve never been to Costco?! I know, that’s like crazy talk :) Also, you most definitely need to get a Snuggie for Brooke – That would be adorbs!

Reply

Candy Corn, yet again another way you changed my life. As a kid I did not really like it, but after reading this blog I thought I would give a try…………..and yes, it is amazing!

I think my September goal is going to be to re-try foods that were only so-so in childhood and see if I find some new to me favorites.

Reply

Those cookies look delicious! I’ve only ever seen the original candy corns here. Maybe it’s just an American thing?

Reply

I like to take two rest days before a half marathon. My marathon taper calls for 2 rest days starting 3 days before the race and a two mile run the day before the race. This is my first marathon, so I’ll probably just stick with the plan, but it makes me a bit nervous since it isn’t what I have practiced on past races.

Reply

Candy corn is a yay until it makes me sick :)
I will do a shakeout run of an easy 3 miles before a race and sometimes I have back to back races. I’ve done a 10k the day before a half. And two back to back halves.

I get my keurig coffee and razor refills for the Schick intuition at Costco. ;)

Reply

I’ll help you if you help me! I’ve been trying to put together a picture collage for one of my walls for what feels like -years- now, but I never seem to be able to get around to actually doing it. I’ll make cookies? :D

Reply

I always decorate Halloween cupcakes with candy corns. Not sure if I love them or just love how they look…I run a few easy miles the day before a race and do the full rest day two days before a race. I find that works the best for me.

Reply

oh my gosh brooke in that picture collage picture? She looks so grown up– just leaning against the couch chillin! HA! love it. I made my mom take me to costco last time I visited and we got a huge bag of quinoa! I need to get a membership again, I miss going and getting free samples!

Reply

Yes, yes, yes candy corn!!

Reply

Hint for the photo collage, trace the frames on newspaper and mark the nails and then put it up on the wall with paper first so you can make sure you like how it looks before hanging the photos. My sister in law taught me this and it worked perfectly on our collage.

oh and Brooke in that blanket all wrapped up? I can’t even. So cute!

Reply

I went through this post and literally nodded at every single thing, candy corn – yes, Brook in a make-shift snuggie -yes, photo collages – yes, Costco pizza – YES!

Costco is my second home – it’s absurd how many things my husband and I purchase there. I think the last time we went, we picked up some quinoa, protein powder, and veggies! They have everything!

Reply

Oooooh my goodness, I think that T-shirt is SOOO funny!!!! Ya know, I kinda think that would be true for you haha!

Reply

I don’t like candy corn at all. (please don’t hate me) If you find someone to help you hang your collage, send them my way! I’ve been procrastinating hanging some pictures but have guests coming to stay this weekend so I need to get it done ASAP. We don’t have a Costco here, but have Sam’s Club and it’s amazing. My last trip was for almond milk, eggs, sweet potatoes, and avocados.

Reply

Omyword! Brooke with the flashcards=PRICELESS!

What kinda cards is she using? Why age did u start at?

Reply

I run 2 days before my race, but not the day before. I have a race this weekend and am praying that formula works for me =).

Costco is semi what I picture heaven to be like. Over stimulation to the max and I just want everything. Best Costco buy is their spinach and cheese ravioli!

Reply

My favorites are the candy pumpkins! I’m obsessed!

As for Costco, the last things I got there were guacamole single serve cups, sliced apples and canned chicken! I know the canned chicken sounds gross, but it makes the best salad chicken or chicken salad sandwiches!

Reply

Yum candy corn! Those cookies look delicious – thanks for sharing the recipe! I like to mix it with pumpkin spice M&Ms – tastes like so autumn-y!
I have a shake-out run the day before my first half in November. I’ve taken the day off before my previous 10k races so I’m interested and a little anxious about how running the day before the race will go!

Reply

That’s a great article about what to do two days leading up to a race. I always struggle with what is too much or too little, but have found that running at an easy pace with some quick bursts for 15 minutes the day before is best for me.

The last time I was at Costco, my husband and I bought dungeness crab and manchego cheese. I like to buy books and flowers there too!

Reply

I love CostCo – last things we bought were a giant pack of paper towels and 12-can-pack of tomato sauce.

Reply

Candy corn, eugh, no! My mom loves the stuff. I maintain that it is not real food. It is a sugary version of the wax they give our at the orthodontist to keep your braces from cutting your cheeks. Not to be consumed!

Reply

I adore candy corn. But in this house (chronic migraine land) it’s referred to as “headache in a bag” so my husband banned it. Now that I’m Celiac….it’s not gluten free. No cheating behind his back. SAD DAY. :)

Reply

Love candy corn. I can’t buy it cause it doesn’t last long here when I do!

I usually like to do some short shake out runs before a race. But I’ve only done that for halves and shorter. The two marathons I’ve run I’ve always rested the day before. Mostly cause of logistics (traveling).

This reminds me I need to make a Costco run!

Brooke is too cute in that blanket!!

Reply

Nay all the way on candy corn. I have never liked the taste of it. Those cookies sound good though just minus the candy corn. Random question do you have suggestions for pool running or what to do when you’re injured for fitness? I have a stress fracture in my foot.

Reply

I LOVE candy corn!! I made a candy corn sandwich (candy corn + PB) while running Ragnar a few years ago and it was the great thing ever. Those blankets look SO comfortable!

Reply

THOSE BLANKETS ARE AMAZING!! I am not a candy corn fan at all, just not my jam. Also, I definitely run the day before, usually only a couple miles, but two days because is a rest day :)

Brooke is adorable as ever!

Reply

I love candy corn!! I usually run 3 days before a race, but do cross training the 2 days before and take a day off the day before.

Cute pictures from last night!!

Reply

I do love candy corn and we have our annual “Halloween” camping trip coming up with our friends so I am going to make these! Costco is 40 minutes away (a closer one is going to open in a few weeks!!), so that last thing I bought was online and it was the make up wipes. Best ever & super cheap.

Reply

My eyeballs love Jimmy Fallon.

I hope you liked the cookies. I need a full review of your thoughts. Side note: sometimes I add peanuts to the cookie dough too. Mmmmm, I never liked candy corn until a few years ago and now I love them. I like them plain and I like them with peanuts or with peanut m&m’s. But I don’t like the flavored candy corns.

I will usually run Monday and Wednesday (easy) and light cross training on Thursday, NOTHING on Friday.

I got strawberries, rotisserie chicken, tortilla chips (we have been going through the huge bags quickly with all the salsa we make in our garden. I could basically eat it all day long) and a huge bag of skinny pop popcorn. That stuff is addicting.

Reply

LOVE the skinny pop popcorn. They were out at my Costco for about 2 months and I was crushed. So when it came back I was buying it like a freakin’ hoarder. It took everything in my power NOT to buy it yesterday when I was at Costco (I already have 4 bags at home…seriously).

Reply

Ours didn’t have any over the Christmas season. They said (yep, I asked cause I am super cool like that) they don’t carry as many ‘healthier’ treats during that time so they can carry the seasonal treats then too. So of course you have to hoard them now cause Costco has created trust issues with us ;)

Reply

Those trust issues now mean my children need to use the bags as pillows because I have nowhere else to store them. :)

Reply

Yes to all the candy corn related products for the fall. Why have I never thought to put them on cookies though?!

Reply

Candy corn – definitely not. Yuck. Pure corn syrup.

Run before a race – yes, the day before I will go for a short “shake out” run to get loose and throw a few quick sprints in to remind myself of speed.

Costco – coconut oil, organic frozen mixed berries, organic olive oil, Kerrygold grass fed butter, spices, nuts, lots of avocados, etc. I somewhat closely follow Ben Greenfields superhuman food pyramid – check it out. It’s light years ahead of the garbage food pyramid created by our government.

Reply

You know that salted peanut-candy corn mix you love? I think salted peanuts would make those cookies even better. Or maybe put candy corn in peanut butter cookies.

Reply

Last thing bought: soap :)

Reply

My new favorite Costco purchase was a bagged salad mix of shredded kale, cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries with a poppy seed dressing. It’s a super easy dinner with grilled chicken over the top.

Of course love the Costco pizza too :)

Reply

Can’t stand candy corn! I love sweet things, but way too sweet for me!

I usually do a light jog the day before a race to stay loose.

Reply

Love candy corn! You have to make monster munch! It’s popcorn covered in white chocolate with Reese’s pieces, candy corn, and peanuts! So yummy!

I have to have a super light run the day before a race or my legs feel all funky the day of, probably because that’s what I’ve always done so I’m just used to it.

Reply

The cookies look great, and I love Brooke with her handmade Snuggie!

Reply

LOVE candy corn! My favorite is the one with the chocolate end so I know I’ll be using those in the cookies!! Thanks for the recipe!

Reply

Have you ever tried eating candy corn with pretzels?! tastes like frosting covered pretzels and it’s AMAZING!

Reply

I was just at Costco yesterday. I went at lunch so it forced me to buy only the things I really needed and no refrigerated/frozen items. So, yeah, bananas and raspberries. Record low purchase. (I have one of those sherpa blankets in my closet that I bought because I thought it would be a great gift. I haven’t found anyone special enough yet..aka I might need it for myself).

As far as tapering goes, I usually run a shorter (3-5 miles) fartlek-y sort of a run a couple of days beforehand, but my overall miles for the week are pretty low.

If they made a dark chocolate toffee version of the candy corn, I’d be all over it. As it is, not so much.

Reply

oh my sweet lord that little one of yours just looks full of personality!

Reply

Candy Corn 4Ever! I’ve tried some of the other kinds, but original will always have my heart. Also, have you ever tried stale CC? Totally yummy.

I wish Costco would come to Cache Valley. Sniff. We have a Sam’s Club but it’s just not the same.

No running for me the day before a race. You are a crazy fast runner. No matter what your time, it’ll be better than I could ever do (said with admiration, not with bitterness:)).

Reply

1. Love candy corn! But the candy corn pumpkins are my favorite :)
2. I like to run a short 2-3 mile easy run two days before a race, but the day before I do not do ANY workout except for possibly easy yoga. I always run better on fresher legs.

Reply

I need to put more pictures up in my room.

By the way- I just discovered your blog and LOVE it! You are motivating me to want to become a better runner. And you and Brooke are so cute :)

Reply

I’ve never liked candy corn, but reeses and peanut m’n’ms are two candies i’ve always loved.
i usually jog just a mile or two 2 days before a race, just to get my legs moving a little bit, and then completely rest and/or do a little yoga the day before the race!

Reply

I don’t really like candy corn. But its my husbands favorite candy! We can’t have it in the house because he would eat the whole bag and get a stomach ache.
I have done 2 mile runs the days before 3 out of 4 of my marathons. For the 4th one I didn’t just because I was traveling and figured I could use more rest. Not sure what I’ll do next time, haven’t quite figured it out yet!

Reply

I love candy corn!! My daughter doesn’t so I get to eat extra:-)

Reply

Candy corn- not a fan. Maybe if it was dipped in chocolate. :) I desperately need to go to Costco. I swtich what I do 48 hours before a race every single time. LOL.

Reply

All cookies look good. Even with candy corn on them.

One costco in SLC has cashew butter. I just bought 4 jars. So freaking delishious.

Reply

I wonder if you could do Candy Corn with PEANUT BUTTER cookies? Salty sweet…..

Reply

2 things. I stared at that candy corn cookie for a MINUTE! and Costco pizza slice = 2 slices…ahahaha! ok, and 3, i went to baby hrg post and I died finding out we share the same bday!

Reply

I’ve tweaked my pre-race strategy a lot over the years. I used to take the day off 2 days before the race, then run an easy 3-4 miles the day before. Now I like to run 4 miles 2 days before, and take the day before completely off. I like getting to the starting line with that antsy, haven’t run in a day feeling. It gives me a little mental push to get a good start and as long as I’ve done my stretching properly beforehand, I always feel fresh and fast!

Reply

Hey there! This is my first comment here so I just wanted to give a quick shout out and say
I truly enjoy reading through your posts. Can you suggest any other blogs/websites/forums that go over the same topics?
Thank you so much!

Reply

Yum!! I love candy corn!! :) I’m not a fan of the “chocolate” one though. Gross.

Reply

I LOVE the Costco blanket (I won’t share mine with my kids :)). We were waiting for them to come back in stock so we could stock up for the holidays. Thanks for the tip!

Reply

Yes to Candy corns –> I have to restrain myself from buying them throughout September!
I was at Costco last week…LaCroix water, apples, almonds, bread, vitamins and q-tips. Random now that I think about it!

Reply

OMFG those cookies!

Reply

Not sure if you’ve gotten this tip for the wall o’frames. trace each one on butcher paper or paper groc bags. tape on wall in preferred arrangement. measure to place each nail for frame and mark with pencil on the paper. nail on that spot and BAM, you’ve arranged your frames perfectly with only ONE hole per frame. Good luck!!

Reply

I agree with those who’ve suggested tracing the pictures and measuring the holes for the nail using the paper templates. If you’re looking for layout ideas for your frames, check out Pinterest – there are tons of ideas!

Reply

Yes candy corn, but mixed with salted peanuts. The sweet salty combo is to die for!

Ran three days before my last marathon and felt sluggish morning of. (Probably by the carb loading on fries, grilled cheese and wings night before?)

Huge Costco trip yesterday, (mom of 4) item that stands out to me? 4 bean salad. Yum! I could drink the vinegar it’s soaked in.

Reply

Try candy corn dipped in peanut butter – trust me!

Reply

Off-topic: the secret to photo collaging is tracing each frame onto paper, and just taking some painter’s tape to rearrange them all on the wall until you are happy. Mark the spot of the hook/hanger on the paper, place the nails and just rip down the paper. Voila! :)

Reply

Pinterest has a ton of collage layouts! Post a pic when you’re done.
