This month is just off to a good start. Much better than 2013.

July 2013= the worst month of my life.   July 2014= so far, it has been pretty amazing.  Everyone told me that things would be so different in just a years time and they were so right.

Yesterday started off with an early morning pool run with the girls and it was so refreshing.  Afterwards I went straight over to Paige’s house for some porch sitting/caffeine drinking to celebrate her birthday yesterday.  You will never meet a sweeter, more amazing person than Paige in your entire life.

Brooke and I have taken it upon ourselves to test out every splash pad in Utah.  Thanksgiving Point splash pad gets 6/10 stars.. mainly because they had a bunch of rocks that looked like they were meant to be climbed on but you weren’t supposed to.

And when we got home Brooke insisted that she be pushed all around the house in her doll stroller.  She thought she was pretty darn hilarious.

IMG 4435

Weird fact about me: I really love playing chess.  My dad taught me when I was a little girl and played with me a bunch and I still love it.  Played a few rounds with some vanilla cream soda.

And it was up north to Pizzeria Limone for dinner.  Utah residents—>  this is a must try.  Put a reminder on your phone right now that you need to go here asap!

IMG 4437

We had the build your own pizza and put every random ingredient that we could on there (pears and eggs on a pizza… why not?)

IMG 4440

And the best way to end a Saturday night.  You can never go wrong with an Oreo shake.

And Brooke is just waking up now and she is singing ‘Let It Go’ from her crib… off to start the day!

Frozen never gets old I guess! Splash parks are the best, Brooke looks like she’s having a pretty awesome summer too :)

Enjoy your day!

Kudos to you for enjoying chess! I can’t stand that game; probably because I always lose. :)

I love eggs on pizza! It can be difficult to find a place that has them on the menu. Yummy!

I’ve had Pizzeria Limone and I remember really liking one of the pizzas we got and not really liking another. I think I’m just an American pizza traditionalist ;)

Reply

I love that she is singing “Let it Go”! That is so adorable :)

Reply

You must tape her singing let it go. How precious!

I’ve always wanted to learn chess! It seems like such a smart person game. haha. I must try this pizza place! Eggs sounds a little iffy to me but pears? Yum!

I did put a reminder on my phone.
I need to make a list of all the restaurants I’ve read about here….cafe rio, that salad bar with the big bread sticks, jack’s cafe, wich wich and many more :)

What’s the quote, we don’t know how strong we are till we have to be. You made it girl, happy July 2014!!!

Oh girl! We have so many places to try together. Love that quote… SEE YOU SOON!!!

So glad you are happy! Keep smiling and writing! I just love your blog. :)

It’s so great that you are in such a wonderful place right now! (((Hugs)))

Reply

You were so smart to make the break and start over, for you and Brooke.

oOOoh I love build-your-own-pizza places. Out here in California, it’s Pieology (kind of like Chipotle, but with a pizza, which also gets baked in the oven).
I’m glad July is waaaay better than last year’s July :)

Reply

I absolutely love pieology. That place is amazing! Hope you are having a great day Michelle!

Reply

Brooke is such a cutie pie! I can’t stand it!!
That cream soda sounds soooo tasty!!!

Pizzeria Limone is the best and one is going in close to me!
What are some good splash pads?? The one in Herriman is just meh. I’ve heard the one in Alpine is good. Also, if you’re ever in Daybreak the new park there is a fun one. It has a zip line (that I may or may not ride:) and a little river thing that’s fun to play in.

Reply

A ZIP LINE… okay, we are going there for sure now. Thanks Laura! Let’s go ride the zip line together:)

Reply

Ok, let’s plan it!!

Reply

Oh the daybreak park is so much fun!!

Perspective: I’m so glad you now have a year behind you to reflect. You have come so far. New apartment right on the horizon too.

Thanks to this post I have a feeling I won’t be able to get that frozen song out of my head. Lol.

Reply

Glad you are having such a great month so far! I think I need to come to Utah just to check out all these places you are always recommending.

Reply

I love when little ones do things like ride-along in a stroller and think it’s hysterical. Love it!! :)

My dad taught me how to play chess when I was little as well, and playing with him are still some of my favourite memories. It’s been -years- since I’ve challenged him to a game — maybe I’ll have to bring it up when I’m over there for dinner tonight :)

Reply

A redemption month to be had. Bless. :)

Reply

I’m so glad to hear this July is much better. You have had a seriously hard year and deserve fabulous months.

Reply

What a difference a year makes, right? :)

Reply

So excited for you and what’s to come! You are glowing in these pictures, and you deserve only the best July this year! Can’t wait to find out who the ‘we’ is one day, too! You deserve so much happiness and more! :D

Reply

Brooke’s face is too sweet! We got to run in a new city/new trail and it was pretty awesome. We even saw turtles in the creek we were running along.

Reply

I am glad that this July is WAY better than last year. My summer 2013 was rought for the same reason

Reply

Thank goodness we got out of 2013:) I hope your 2014 is going much better Melissa!

Reply

Haha I want to wake up singing Frozen every morning!

Reply

I’m so jealous you get to live in Utah! Raleigh has got some cool spots, but all your places sound way cooler! Cannot wait to visit one day!

Reply

So glad you’re able to look back and appreciate how far you have come. I’m so happy for you! I hope a year from now I can look back at all the pain from my injury and see how strong I was recovering from it. Right now I don’t feel like I will ever get through it, but hopefully by next year it will be behind me.

Reply

It’s good to hear that your July is going so well, and I’m sure each month gets a little easier. Brooke is your rock!

Reply

Glad for the turn around! Stay blessed J!

Reply

Brooke is lucky to have such an emotionally strong mom!

I have sadly never been to a build-your-own-pizza type place, but I did try a Caesar’s Salad pizza a couple weeks ago that was really good! The place piled up a big salad on top of the pizza. The only bad part was the pieces I brought home didn’t really keep bc the dressing made it kind of soggy after a bit.

Reply

Well I’m hungry

Thanks again Janae!!! ;-)

Reply

I’m glad this July is going much better. You survived!!

Also, you really need to tape Brooke singing Let it Go. Thinking about how cute that must have been to hear made me smile

Reply

Aaahh Janae every time I read your blog I get hungry. And then I get jealous because (even though we have awesome food in Ireland too) a bunch of the stuff you eat are things I can’t get! Someday I will go to the US and have fro-yo and I’m sure I’ll think of you and the millions of fro-yo concoctions you show on here!

Reply

Yum! I had pizza and ice cream last night too. The perfect Saturday night meal! :)

Reply

Oooh, now I want an oreo shake! That looks good!!!!

Reply

I am in love with Pizzaria Limone. I was in SLC last year and found it. I was back there to work in April and ate there twice. Holy Yum!!!

Reply

I am soo happy that July 2014 is already wayyyy better than 2013 for you!!! Things will only continue to get better, too!!

Reply

No climbing on the rocks???!!!! Especially rocks that look awesome to climb???!!! I’d seriously never go again. Especially with a curiously exploring toddler.

I’m so glad you’re finding the sweet spot of life again :)

Reply

Ditto on July 2014 being one MILLION times better than 2013. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger! A large part of 2013 is what gave me my 2014 motto: I can do hard things because I’m BRAVE! I say that a lot to myself :)

Can you believe I’ve only taken my kids to a splash pad ONCE this summer? I’m reading the comments above and the Daybreak one sounds legit!! Ziplines? Ya, that sounds awesome!

One more thing…you MUST somehow record the Brookster singing Let it Go! Dying! :)

Reply

It’s amazing how much things can change in a year. Glad to see you smiling and enjoying the present! It looks like you are in a much better place.

Reply

I’m so happy to hear that you are doing well!
That pizza and oreo shake sound like great ways to spend a Saturday night:)

Reply

Pear on a pizza sounds beyond yummy!

Reply

Pear on pizza is perfection. Cali Pizza Kitchen has an awesome one with gorgonzola. You may have already had this but in case you haven’t – Thinly sliced pear with melted cheese on toast (especially cinnamon swirl bread…that is heaven). White nectarines work too! :)

Reply

Pears on a pizza actually sounds delicious!

Reply

Omg July 2013 was so hard on me too. It had a lot of plus sides too but mostly crying my eyes off. July 2014 is freaking awesome! Yes you havr to record Brooke and share please!! I love when toddlers sing!

Reply

I would never have thought of putting pear on a pizza but why not!

Reply

I’m so, so glad your life has turned around so much in a year! One thing I love about blogs – it’s a great way to look back at your life. Always keeping you in my prayers and hoping all the rough stuff passes by soon!

Reply

What a difference a year – and a positive attitude – makes! :-)

Reply

Hey Janae! I separated from my husband in June 2013 as well and listened to “This Year” by the Mountain Goats about a hundred times.

Reply

Sorry to hear about your separation, and congrats on making it through that horrible first year.

When I separated from my boyfriend/fiancée of 6 years I listened to Sara Bareilles’ songs Breath Again and Hold My Heart on repeat so many times I thought I would never NOT hear them. At least your song had a nice upbeat tempo! Haha.

Reply

I think of you often…… uhhh I mean that in the least creepy way possible, but I have definitely been sending you more good vibes this month than usual! You have truly been such an inspiration and breath of fresh air. You have bravely shared your ups and downs without sugar coating everything, and I bet you have encouraged more people than you will ever know. Keep it up Janae!

Reply

I thought you weren’t doing any cardio? Anyway, I’m so glad this July is better for you than the last! :)

Reply

This is proof that eventually, the bad times will pass. It’s hard to imagine when it feels like you’re just stuck under a cloud, but the sun ALWAYS comes back out. So happy you are back in the Sunshine.
In other news, I can’t wait for the Brooke recording.

Reply

I think you are precious and I am so happy that you are happy. :) Thank you for sharing your life with us.
