3.  I am back to running.  I took a full month off after my marathon (and then 1/2 marathon the next weekend) to allow my body time to really recover and heal after the race.  I also wanted to take time off and wait to start running until I was ready mentally.  I hate feeling like I ‘have to’ run and if I am feeling like that then I know it is time for a break…

Back to loving running and feeling refreshed physically and mentally!

I could get used to running here.

4.  I am lusting over this bike at Sport’s Authority.  I LOVE my spin bike and it is perfect but I really want one that will tell me my distance/speed/effort level etc… a garmin for my spin bike would be quite nice.

IMG 5208

5.  I also saw these beauties at the store…  Remember when running shoes used to be just white/gray/blue and boring!?!  Those were tough times.

IMG 5206

6.  Three cheers for continental breakfasts that let you make your own chocolate chip waffles with whipped cream.

IMG 5355

7.  Late night hotel partying.  This child doesn’t believe in bedtimes once we are in a hotel.

IMG 5354

8.  A reader sent this to me and it made me happy.  I want him for my trail buddy too!

9.  In my dream home I will have a pebble ice machine in it just like this house does.  I can’t think of anything better.

10.  What happens when you try to take a 2 year old to Donovan’s Steakhouse in La Jolla… no shoes, iPad, on the ground and I may have had some macaroni and cheese thrown at me…

You have been incredibly productive! Enjoy your takeout:)

CONGRATULATIONS on the article and, more importantly, welcome back to running!! I know how much you love it so I’m very happy for you!!!

I want my name on a diet coke bottle but it doesn’t exist either

Reply

YAY that you’re running again! I agree – sometimes, that good long break is just so needed. Helps us as athletes in the long run :)

Those pancakes sound really good now…might have to do breakfast for dinner tonight!

Reply

I wish I had your discipline to take a full month off after a marathon! I know it’s what I should do. Going to check out your article on Womens Running now!

Reply

Wow. That month flew by.

Well…probably not for you. But it seemed to really go fast.

Also…I want the pebble ice machine. That is all. Thank you.

Reply

I read your article yesterday and shared it on facebook. Awesome! Ugh, so jealous you are/were in La Jolla. It is so gorgeous there!

Reply

My name is apparently so unique it’s not even on a virtual coke bottle! I love SD it’s only like 90 minutes away but it’s one of my fave vacay spots for a long weekend! :)

Reply

I thought I was the only person in the world who loves loves loves pebble ice. I wonder if the people at Chick Fil A would think I’m weird for requesting a cup of it…

Reply

They do they you are weird when you ask for it (I do all of the time) but I think you should anyways… worth it.

Reply

If you live in the south Chik fil a workers won’t give you weird looks! Cups of ice are needed down here!

Reply

Yay for your virtual name bottle!
and a pebble ice machine? Yes please.
I agree about the hotel room too. My kids have the hardest time settling down there too.
I’m going good to go read your article now :)

Reply

So happy you are back to running. It must feel so nice :)
And my dog (a mixed breed mystery dog) looks kind of like your reader’s dog!… too bad she’s not fit enough to go trail running with me on my 16-milers.

Reply

I especially love that view, wishing I was by the beach right now

Tuesday tangent: I made stuffed shells for the first time today {pregnancy craving} and it took much longer to stuff than I thought… Next time I’m just gonna throw it all together in a pan and call it dinner :P That said, I hope they’re delicious haha!

Hotel partying? Take some pictures of your room, please!

Reply

So my three year old daughter is sitting next to me while I read this post. She just HAS to know what Brooke is watching on her ipad in the last picture!

Reply

Donovans is right by my apartment! craziness! is it creepy that now I feel cooler knowing you ate at a restaurant somewhat close to me?

Nothing that tangential about my Tuesday just the same ol’ run, eat, work, sleep :)

Reply

HAHAHA You should have come with us. My steak was incredible:) You live in a gorgeous area!

Reply

Glad to hear you’re feeling refreshed after some time off. I’m taking about a week off and I think it’s doing me good! I am itching to run again though.

Reply

Oh my gosh, congratulations on your Women’s Running post, that’s so cools! I texted my sister yesterday kindly informing her she simply must find me an “Anne” Diet Coke bottle. Perhaps I’ll make a display of it in my apartment :)

Reply

Tuesday Tangent: you might be surprised at the quantity of smoke produced when a small amount of coconut oil is spilled on the bottom of a 400* oven. Oops.

Reply

Hahha hahahaha!

Reply

I rode my bike to work today and never felt like I was going to get run over. that was sort of a big accomplishment for me, the Chinese traffic is intense

Reply

You win the internet today in my book. Biking in city traffic in China? Very cool. p.s. Stay alive.

Reply

It’s funny, I was just thinking that you hadn’t done a tangent Tuesday in a while. Maybe I just think this last week went by so slow…who knows. I keep looking for a LOLZ on a diet coke…but I can’t find it.

Reply

You’re running again! I’m sure the break was nice, but I bet it felt so good to get back into the groove!

A spin bike seems like it would be a nice piece of “furniture” for your new apartment. Just throwin it out there! :D

Reply

I can’t wait to read your article! And yay for getting back to running! It feels so good to come back refreshed after a break.

Reply

hmmm today’s tangent? I rediscovered the bag of dark choco chips that I had hidden in our cabinet- most delicious snack everrrr!

Reply

Running by the beach = the best thing ever!!!

My tangent: I am (sort of) starting my training for a half marathon this week!

Reply

wow what a glorious place to start running again-woohoo! check out your other article and those are some great tips….need to get back into core!

tangent tuesday is that i’ve been so distracted today i’ve had to turn off my internet in order to accomplish anything.

it rained for the first time in a while in portland, oregon and that makes being a new dog owner a lot less fun!

Reply

Yay for running again!

Tangent = I made a pretty great sandwich for dinner tonight – egg, bacon, avocado and tomato. It was supposed to be a blt originally, but I had no “L” and had to get creative! :)

Reply

Tuesday Tangent, hmmmm, I am so over mosquito’s for real, they drive me insane and for some reason they love me. I am doomed.

Reply

I miss my beach runs. I seriously need some CA time! Congratulations on your first article! That is so cool! I often wonder if taking a full week off from working out would allow my calf strain to heal. It’s good one week then bad the next.

Reply

Yay for being back to running!
I don’t have a tangent…but I really do like those Nike’s and now I want to go shoe shopping…

Reply

Here’s my tangent. My 21 month old drank 4 glasses of water at dinner. His diaper is going to be so full tomorrow morning. I started my new training plan for my fall half today (well yesterday but it was a rest day)! It was a slow, humid, sweaty start!

Reply

For the life of me, I cannot get over how cute Brooke is. As she gets older, she gets cuter!

Reply

So glad you are back to running!!! I started my training plan to hopefully BQ on Monday and did my first workout today and ROCKED it! So happy!

Reply

I have officially accepted that I am in a bit of a running rut and I need to get over and it start training harder for my half marathon! I can do this :) Also I am beginning to wonder if my 5 month old is ever going to sleep past 5:30 am! hehe

Reply

I hate feeling like a cliche but every so often, when it’s around *that* time, I find myself thinking how great some chocolate would be.

Reply

hi janae!!! i’m glad to hear your tangents… as my friends and i would say, i’ve been “having a time” today. it’s when life is so ridiculous/ you’re stuck on a silly idea that everything seems hilarious. happens to me when i am doing insane things and messing stuff up. think of the point after frustration.

another tangent, i stayed until 7:30 pm yesterday at work!! that is madness given i’m a 40 hr a week worker and am not supposed to go overtime! so i’m a lil cranky that i missed BOTH my yoga class and long walk yesterday, as well as slept in this morning!

but i hit up an amazing flow class tonight and am going to another tomorrow morning. yay for getting back into the fitness that you LOVE, not that you have to do!

Reply

So glad you’re feeling happy to be running again :) That beach looks amazing (and so do those sparkly Nikes…). La Jolla is a beautiful place, I would love to go back!

Today’s tangents:

-I took a short break from running/working out while I was in Cape Cod, and I feel so ready to get back at it again tomorrow!
-I ate the best ice cream ever while I was in the Cape at an amazing place called “Sundae School” (<- isn't that the best name!?). Not sure what exactly was in it but I was told it contained brownies & fudge, so I was sold right then and there.
-I'm sunburnt beyond belief even though I applied (& reapplied) sunblock… Ouch!

Aaaand those are my tangents for tonight!

Reply

I love pebble ice!!!

Reply

Please tell me you got your own personal loaf of bread at Donovan’s! That is my absolute favorite bread of ALL. TIME.

Reply

Congratulations on the Women’s Running article! So exciting! Tuesday tangents….I have starting training for my next half marathon which will be in October, I spent a bunch of money at Target today, and my zucchini plant has squash bugs and I just made a fool of myself running out of the garden because one touched my hand.

Reply

I saw the women’s health article yesterday when it was posted on Twitter! So cool!

tangent: my 12yo’s clarinet broke 4 days before band camp. If she wasn’t so devastated about it, I might’ve thought she didn’t want to go. Hoping an adorable 85yo Italian man named Gino can fix it in time.

curious – How far does one (you) run the first time out after taking off a month?

enjoy the rest of your trip!

Reply

Glad you liked the virtual bottle I sent you! I’m cheering for you every day!

I’ve read several excellent stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting.
I surprise how much attempt you put to make the sort of fantastic informative web site.

Reply

I miss San Diego so much. I saw a huge improvement in my running when I lived there. I did all my runs outdoors and they felt great with views like the pic above. Can’t wait to hear about your training!!!

Reply

you should get that bike, it is really marked down

Reply

Haha Brooke on the floor on the ipad with mac & cheese is how I’d like to be able to do fancy restaurants!

Yay for being back to running! You couldn’t have picked a more gorgeous place to start back up again!

Reply

So glad you’re back to running and what amazing pictures! Looks like my 3 year old at a restaurant. How people went out to eat with kids pre-ipad I’ll never understand :)

Reply

Haha I love this! Brookers looks so cute as always :)

My random tangents for Tuesday were that I drove really far to a Bed, Bath & Beyond to get a Vegetti (!!!) have you heard of it? It makes your zucchini or squash like spaghetti and it is amazing! The hubs approved 100% last night and so I know it’s good!

Also, after our uber healthy dinner of all veggies, we made Ghirardelli brownies , oops!:) I know that’s your fav!

Reply

I LOVE WIENER DOGS!!

Reply

Ooh those Nikes are so pretty! Love the bright colors.

Reply

Continental breakfasts always rock!

Reply

Have you thought about getting a bike for outdoors? I took my bike out on Monday and it was awesome to get back to cycling.

Reply

I love pebble ice!!! And we are going to myrtle beach next month & I’m already dreaming about running on the beach!

Reply

i know i’m a bit late in commenting, but your tuesday tangents posts are my favorite and brooke always puts a smile on my face! hope you are having/had fun in SD :)

Right away I am going to do my breakfast, later than having my breakfast coming yet again to read further news.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my apple ipad and tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot
drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share it with someone!
