How many miles do you put on a pair of running shoes?

Pumping iron this morning at 6.  I had to modify a few things (lunges and squats) because I am still a little sore but overall it was a great workout and I hit the elliptical for 30 minutes after.

It is really sweet that Brooke picks flowers for me everyday but I don’t know how much my mom loves her new tradition.

When I tell her I am going to take a picture she closes her eyes and says CHEEEEEEEESEEEEEEE.

IMG 3382

Post-lunch—>  Brookers and I headed up north to go be with a friend that I met back in the 4th grade.  I love that we have stayed so close for over 19 years now.

IMG 3396

My friend is 36 weeks pregnant and craving Orange Peel all of the time.  It was my first time trying their smoothies and I am in love.  I had a coconut/pineapple delicious one and you can order them sugar free (they can use honey, stevia, or splenda to sweeten them).

IMG 3399

Afterwards Brooke found a wall of headbands and was in heaven.  This girl loves her headbands.

And her fishes.  We will be getting fish for our new apartment (they don’t allow dogs but I am going to try and convince them that we should be the exception).

Running shoes and mileage.  When is it time to get a new pair of running shoes?

Screen Shot 2014 06 19 at 2 22 52 PM

THIS ARTICLE says:

‘Ryan Hall, one of the world’s best distance runners, used to pride himself on wearing his running shoes into nubs.  No more.  Now he assiduously replaces his shoes after running about 200 miles in them.  He goes through two pairs a month.  “I know that my shoes could probably handle a couple of hundred more miles before they are worn out, but my health is so important to me that I like to always make sure my equipment is fresh,” he said.

TWO PAIRS A MONTH!?!? WOW!  It makes sense for him though!

Sometimes I wonder if shoe companies came up with the magic number of 300-500 miles per pair of running shoes so that we go out and buy a new pair more frequently than needed BUT at the same time my knees and shins start to feel a little iffy once I hit 400-450 miles on a pair of shoes.  That is usually when I switch them out for a new pair and when I do my knees and shins feel much better.  I think the amount of mileage per shoe really depends on the person, the type of shoe they are wearing, what type of surfaces they run on and their foot strike when they run.

I try to only wear my running shoes to run in.  I never wear my running shoes to pump and I only wear my older running shoes that already have too many miles on them to do things like the elliptical or run errands.

What about you—>  How many miles do you usually put on a pair of shoes?  Do you keep track of the shoe mileage or replace them once your body starts to feel like it is time for a new pair?  Do you wear a different pair of shoes to cross-train in?

What shoes have you been running in lately?

What are your Thursday night plans?

Who goes to pump classes?  How often?

I’ve been running in the Asics 19 Gel Kayanos! Tons of support, but I need it. I usually get new shoes every 400 miles or so. Anything longer and I start to hurt.

My Thursday night plans include homemade pizza and Netflix-the life:)

That’s my shoe!! Very expensive but I swear no injuries since using them.

I get new shoes when I start to feel discomfort in my shins. I don’t actually track miles.
My last 3 pairs of running shoes have been Saucony. Not intentional. Just always seems to be the best for me.
I love BodyPump class but the times it is offered never seem to work with my schedule. I just lift at home.

Reply

I love Body Pump so much, that I’m getting my cert to teach it in a few weeks! So yes, I go pretty often!

Reply

Currently running in Saucony’s!

Tonight I am hitting up yoga and then meeting up with the editor of the Washington DC Active Lifestyle site! We are doing some fun brainstorming for it :)

Reply

I stick with the 400 mark for shoes. Once I’m at 300 I start rotating another pair in so I don’t go from wearing worn out shoes to completely new shoes. I also use old worn out pairs to cross train.
I try to go to pump classes 1-2 times a week. I actually love going but its hard to get in all the running I want to do and the classes!

So fun that Brooke lets you out stuff in her hair. :-) Annabelle quickly takes out anything I put in hers.

Brooks Pure Flow 2s!!!

I always run in Mizuno Wave Riders, and I have to retire a pair at 300-350 miles. My shins always know when it’s time! I keep a log of miles on each pair too. I saw a picture on Pinterest that said “I don’t always spend $120 on shoes, but when I do they are for running” which is 100% true for me! I have separate shoes for all other workouts too. Running shoes do nothing but run!

I LOVE Body Pump! I only went maybe once a week during marathon training, but now that I don’t have any races coming up I’ve been going twice a week. I have no plans for tonight other than making breakfast for supper and relaxing!

Reply

I run in Saucony Triump 11s, not very inspiring but just got a new pair and they feel great. Will try wearing my old pair to circuits class–but that means a lot of shoes under my desk at work!

Already nighttime here in London, I just got home from seeing Maleficient with my girlfriends. It was great!

Also what do you ladies recommend for a workout headband? Mine ALWAYS falls off.

I’ve gone through so many different ones and these are awesome. I’ve ran and worked out in them and they do not move AT ALL!

I love them and own about 20 of them! They have a velvet underside that keeps ’em in place. My daughter wears them all day and gets compliments on them all the time.

Reply

When I ran in the pure flows, they lasted 25o miles before they felt funny. So that meant a new pair every 2 months.

I run in the glycerin 12s currently. The Glycerins seems to last a lot longer–about 400 miles. I can either replace my shoes or spend extra $ on the Chiro and recovery. I agree, replace your shoes.

Reply

I noticed that the pure flows have a much shorter lifespan. Actually, mine wore out much sooner than expected (around the same distance you mentioned) and I realized it when I started having achilles pain. Now I am using Asics and hoping for a much longer life because I cannot afford to replace my shoes every month and I average about 150 – 200 miles a month.

Reply

I loved running in those shoes for a while and then I started to hurt too. I guess that goes to show you really have to find your own shoe. Everyone, every foot is so different.

Reply

I’ve just bought my second pair of running shoes. I’ve had the first ones for two years, but I started running about a year ago. I have broad feet and my little toes started to wear through my shoes. I’ve tracked about 275 km’s on them, but when I started I didn’t track my runs. I also wear them when I bike to the gym, but not while working out at the gym. I love bodypump, I do it once a week (but I don’t love the new instructor so much, so I have a bit of a motivational problem right now.)
I really like your blog, you ar always so positive.

Reply

I try to replace every 400 miles but I usually demote them to walking shoes because I walk a lot. I also use retired running shoes when I run in the rain because I dont want my #1 pair to be gross and wet for days.

Reply

I run in a smorgasbord of shoes- but mostly Brooks Glycerin, Pureflows (discovered them thanks to your post mentioning they were on sale!!!!), and most recently- Newtons.

Have you tried Newtons? They last for an absurd amount of time, like 800+ miles.

Reply

I have never tried newtons! I have really wanted to though!

Reply

Newtons are my jam! They were hard to get used to at first (didn’t think I liked them the first 3-4 runs), but I’m on my third pair now and I can’t stand to run in anything else! Plus the super bright colors always yield compliments. :)

Reply

I’m currently running in the Newton Gravity. I bought them for the mileage promise. Before I was in PureFlows and PureCadences. Still not sure what I think about them… I’ve used them for about 200 miles so far. I have learned that they are definitely better for me for outside running. I was doing a lot of treadmill training and I really seemed to feel the lugs on the forefoot. Outside, they feel great.
They were the most expensive shoes I’ve bought. I’m hoping they go for twice as long as my Brooks so I can justify the moolah!

Reply

I wear Asics GT-2000’s because I have some major over pronation issues.

Tonight I am getting all packed for my FIRST FULL MARATHON!! We are heading to Seattle early tomorrow morning for the RNR Seattle on Saturday. I am feeling so nervous and excited!

Reply

I rotate between a couple of different types of Altras and my Brooks Pureflow 2s for the road.. and love my Topo’s for the trails. Once they’re no good for running anymore then they’re used for Crossfit and Boxing.

Thursday nights I have my co-ed softball league and can’t wait! I love playing every week and wish I could squeeze it in more!

No pump classes for me (no clue what they are even about) but I am addicted to my Crossfit and go 2-3 times a week to cross train. I have gained so much strength and definition from it, and I swear it’s made me a stronger/faster runner! Win-win.

Unfortunately Im really bad about buying new shoes. I am cheap & also I forget totally about that until my runs start feeling off or I have little aches and pains and Im like hmmm…these shoes are 6+ mos old. It’s hard because usually they still look perfectly fine.

I have been running in Brooks Pureflows since you posted that link. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I had actually been having recurring shin problems and somehow these shoed magically fixed it?! My shin actually felt BETTER after running in these babies. AND they also made me somehow cut several minutes off my usual pace? I think they must have some kind of super powers…

I am dying to try a pump class but there are ZERO anywhere around me. At ANY gym (my gym us dirt cheap=no classes) around me. Crazy! Guess you just have to come to MD and teach one! :)

No plans. Just a hot date with my cats and my kindle. Im a real party animal.

Reply

I am seriously so so happy that the pureflows are working out so well for you! They are the best!

Reply

Macy, are you Asian? The reason why I asked is because you stated, “I am cheap.”

Just curious…

Reply

I put around 400-450 on mine, but I can always tell when it’s time because my shins start to go first! And I’m a Mizuno girl!

I used to love going to pump but I canceled my gym membership when I moved. I do miss it though!

My Thursday night will be spent getting a MASSAGE! My hamstrings are CRAZYYY tight and I’m SO ready for some relief.

Reply

LIke you, I ONLY wear my running shoes to run. I wear my older running shoes that I’ve retired for biking, walking, and whatever else I wear tennis shoes for.

Reply

I was running in pure flows until recently when mine wore out much quicker than I expected, which resulted in achilles pain (unfortunately turns out to be the hardest to recover from due to lack of blood flow). I switched to Asics but there have been some adjustment issues. Nailing down what works for you can be difficult and expensive! It’s amazing the science involved and how much individuals vary in what they need.

Reply

I have Adidas, but I’m looking for a new pair of running shoes, specifically for underpronators! My thursday night plan is to go for a run, while the boyfriend goes for a bike ride. :) hopefully we will meet up on the same road, and then he’ll fly past me!

Reply

When I wore Brooks Adrenalines I used to have to change them out about every 375-400 miles. Now I wear the Mizuno Wave Inspires (SO much lighter, they’re my absolute favorite shoe now) and I was wearing mine up until over 500 miles when one day I added up the miles and went, “woh, they have that many on them!?” My legs/shins never felt it! That’s my sort of shoe, cus that means I have to buy them less often, muahaha.

Reply

I usually go through 4 pairs of running shoes a year (so one every 3 months). If I had to estimate I’d say I put 400-450 miles on a pair. I should probably keep better track of that. I know I need a new pair when I start to feel little niggles of pain in specific areas of my legs. That’s usually my first indicator. I don’t think we have “Orange Peel” here in Canada, but it sounds great!

Reply

I find that about 350 miles is my sweet spot. After that, I start to have trouble with my shin and hip. Right now, I am running in Mizuno Wave Inspires. I have bought the last two versions of them and love them! I’m buying a new pair soon and thinking about switching it up, but I’m not quite sure what to do. I’ll probably end up in the old trusty. :)

Reply

Saucony Stabil CS 2. My feet are so messed up that only motion control shoes work for me. They have a new version out that I’m going to try, so hopefully they haven’t changed too much! I don’t usually track mileage, just change my shoes when I start to get aches and pains that I usually don’t get (usually in my knees and shins).

Reply

I run about 500 miles in mine and am currently wearing New Balance 870-V3s for most of my runs! After reading all of your posts about pump I want to try a class!!

Reply

I run about 400 miles (give or take) in mine. I can always feel in my shins or calves when it is time for new shoes.
Right now I’m alternating 2 pairs of Asics Kayano 20 and Brooks Adrenaline (which I need to replace).
No exciting plans tonight. My daughter has pinkeye and a respiratory infection. Fun times at my house! :)

Reply

I usually put around 4-450 on my shoes. I only wear them to run in and I once they are too worn to run in I use them to cross train, run errands, etc. I ONLY wear Brooks Pureflow 2’s in the last year and a half and I’ve gone through several pairs and still have 6 pairs in rotation and 3 in back up!

Oh, and DSW still has them on sale for 39.95! :)

Reply

I have never officially tracked mileage on my shoes (which is shocking considering how Type A I am), but I change them based on feel (and look of wear on the soles).

The rest of my comment is totally unrelated to your post but completely relevant for you. I just saw a commercial for Dial Cooling FroYo body wash. No lie. My first thought was you. Have you seen it? It’s already being sold at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Dial-Cooling-FroYo-Yogurt-Protein/dp/B00IC8726C

Thursday night plans: play date at the NEW dog park! My dog’s a little neurotic so we’ll see if she actually plays….

Reply

My Thursday evening includes a giant spoonful of Speculoos :)

Reply

There are way more fun things to do in life than count the miles on my shoes, so I just replace them when the soles start to show uneven wear. Now that I think of it, it’s kinda like the same thing you do with car tires!

Reply

Brooks glyercins I get about 400 miles and Newton Gravities I get about 600 in. I think it really just depends on a persons stride and how hard they are striking the ground.

Reply

I have no idea how many miles I put on my shoes, but I think it’s around 300 to 400 depending on where I’m at in a training cycle. I don’t really count the mileage for my shoes, I just go by feel and weather the rubber is all worn down on the bottom or not. I religiously look at the bottom of my shoes after every run because I like watching them get worn down, haha. On average I get a new pair about every 3 to 3.5 months.

Wow that’s so much info about my running shoe usage. I don’t have many real life friends that love running, so I love that I can share with you and everyone else here! :)

Reply

brand new asics and i’m loving them! the sun is shining in portland, oregon today it was much more glorious to run in them today.

no pump class for me but get my in-home workouts in like nobody’s business!

i will also probably have a smoothie for dinner-thanks for the inspiration!

Reply

Newtons!! I probably replace them every 600 miles or so, and you can tell by looking at the lugs when they need replaced–no guessing!

Reply

Saucony’s were my go to running shoe when I was running. I loved them.

Reply

I’ve been wearing the Newton Distance for almost three years now and love them. I can always tell when I need a new pair if my knees are sore after a long run. I never wear my running shoes for anything but. Fortunately I’m a sucker for a cute shoe and have many others to choose from when doing anything besides running. :-)

Reply

Thursday night = thai stir fry and white wine spritzers with the boy! Good night for me!

Reply

I absolutely am a believer in switching out your shoes! I used to call my mom every so often complaining about my knees and she would always ask, “When was the last time you replaced your shoes?” Eventually I learned and boy does it make a difference!
I like to rotate between two pairs and I use old shoes for things like cross-training/knocking around.
It has been an embarrassingly long time since I’ve been to pump, boo me!

Reply

Usually I can tell when my runners need to be replaced. My feet and legs start up feel more impact than normal. I don’t like letting it go that long but sometimes I forget to monitor the treads on the bottom. I don’t believe in going with an exact mileage but after 3-4 months I start paying attention to see if they should be replaced.

Reply

I usually log between 300 to 400 miles…other than that, I go on feel. Right now, I’m rocking the Sayonara’s and 17’s. Right now in my training plans, Friday is me rest day. Thursday nights are my precursor and catching up on Duck Dynasty. Btw, I was asked to do a guest blog. I wanted to do something about the number of female bloggers in the running/health/fitness space versus men bloggers in the same space… When I googled that, you’re blog came up every time. One one top x list (http://www.marathontrainingschedule.com/blog/awesome-list-top-100-best-running-blogs-2014/), you were number #11. My hero! =)

Reply

I usually get 400-500 miles out of my running shoes, but I’m not religious about keeping track and mostly go by feel. I just switched from Saucony Kinvara to Mizunos Inspire and I love them! Still super light weight but more support, which I definitely needed!

I’ve taken pump before and the gym I go to now just started offering it, so I definitely want to go more often. I’m pretty good about doing strength training on my own, though, so I don’t feel too bad if I can’t work it into my schedule.

Thursday night plans are pizza and Orange is the New Black!!

Reply

I usually get around 300-400 miles per pair. It’s on the lower end for the Brooks Pure line though!

Reply

Congrats on the new apartment!

Reply

I’m actually planning on getting new running shoes soon! I think I’ve about hit the mark, and am planning on running a half in the fall that I need to start training for.

Reply

This is awful, but I’m so cheap. I’ve put upwards of 2000 miles on multiple pairs of shoes- eeek!!! And I use the cheap $30 champion ones from Target! I also really hate breaking new shoes in, and I’m a naptime treadmill runner. So I’m sure that helps them stick around much longer than road running!

Reply

Going through running shoes that fast reminds me of back in my ballet days when girls would blow through a pair of toe shoes every few weeks. Those things ain’t cheap, either.

I don’t know how old my shoes are, which is probably a good indicator I need new ones.

Reply

I try to get 500 miles out of my shoes because I hate having to replace them all the time! I find that some shoes last longer than that, and then others feel dead after only a few hundred miles.

Reply

This one always bugs me. ..I just about get 250 miles on my shoes. It’s always been this way and I’m so jealous when people say they get 400-500+ miles! I track mileage but I also go by feel. I can tell because I start getting odd aches and pains and then I check my log and it’s always around the 250 mark. I’ve been wearing nike pegasus for years now. I don’t change when I find a shoe that works! I cross train in the same shoes. Right now I’m doing nothing because I have wicked case of tendonitis in my foot :(

Reply

I usually get about 300-350 per pair. I track miles on my iphone using my to-do list app.
And I never wear my running shoes for anything else…like you, i use older pairs for cross training. =)

I just returned to my favorite Asics Cumulus (the 16s that just came out). I wore Brooks Ghost previous to these and before that was the Cumulus 13s

I’m currently blogging and doing upper body strength with dumbells while listening to my itunes.

They just started offering Les Mills bodypump at my gym. I might try and coordinate a class if they have one during my lunch break.

Reply

I don’t track mileage diligently, but I always run between 20-30 miles/week so I know I go vaguely 800 miles on each pair, but I just go by feel. If my IT band is tight it’s time for new shoes. I do mizuno wave riders for the past 5 years, but the newest model is a lot different so I may branch out to a different shoe next time.

Reply

My mizuno wave inspires start to feel funny around 300, but I try to put about 330-350 before I replace them. I recently added Brooks Ravenna and have been alternating between the two. Curious to see how brooks will hold up mileage wise/ if alternating shoes will make a difference in anything!

Reply

I try to keep track of the mileage but end up just tossing them when my shins/knees start aching. My big Thursday night plans are to watch lots of Netflix like a party animal.

Reply

I run in VFF’s so I don’t really think that they go along the same mileage lines as other running shoes… but I’ve been sucking at running lately so they don’t have many miles left =( Will you move to Colorado and I can be your super slow running buddy? Maybe you can train me to run faster!

My Thursday night plans are working. Woohoo!

I miss pump so much! My town sucks and it doesn’t offer anything like it =(

Reply

I’ve never tracked mileage on my shoes and was just wondering how you do this?! Do you use an app or just literally write down your miles after every run and keep adding it up? In any case I sometimes let them go too long for sure and I def feel it so perhaps I should start doing this!
Tonight’s plan included a stop at the grocery store and then a sweaty 5k. And now reading blogs :)

Reply

I use an app for my iPhone called Runner’s Log. I think it was like $2.99 but totally worth it. I couldn’t be without it. You can log all your runs in it and it has a shoe log as well. So when you enter your run you can select which pair of shoes you ran in (in case you rotate multiple pairs) and it keeps a tally of how many miles are on them. You can also put what date you purchased them which is awesome too. Highly recommend this app and hope it helps you out! :)

Reply

I will check it out! Thanks Breanna!!

Reply

I wear the Pureflow 2s, and i used to get 400 miles on them. But I stocked up on a close out deal, and on those shoes I haven’t been getting more than 200 miles! I read something about shoes slowly losing their cushioning even if they haven’t been worn; maybe it is true after all.

Reply

I track my show mileage and switch out every 300-500 miles….so every 3-4 months. I’m running in Brooks pure connects right now. I love brooks, and usually only run in them.
I also do pump 3x a week. When I don’t I feel it in my running.

Reply

I currently run in bright pink Brooks Glycerin (LOVE, Love, love them) and will typically put about 500 miles on a pair of shoes before making another purchase. Unless, there is a sale. I will stock up if there is a sale.

Reply

I’ve been running in Brooks Ravennas but I ordered the Adrenlines and can’t wait to try them out!

Reply

I replace shoes based on feel. Its usually my back that feels the pain before my legs.
I still love my brooks ghost 6. My favorites at the moment.
That smoothie looked so good to me. I need to get back into the habit of smoothies, preferably green smoothies.
My 9yo loves her headbands too. We LOVE the Activebands headbands. They are the Best because they dont slip. We have 20 or so between the 2 of us. My husband’s cousin came down for a visit from utah and her daughter was wearing an activeband headband and said her good friend is the one that makes them! I told her to hug her friend for me and tell her shes a genius ;)

Reply

I’ve been running Mizunos, but I’m no expert. Do you think you’ll try to get back into teaching?

Reply

We’re packing to go to Vegas!! Woo!!

I love my Brooks Glycerin… I also run in Mizuno at the track to switch it up.

Reply

I track my mileage with an iPhone app called Runner’s Log. It is so helpful for keeping track of mileage in general, but it has a feature where you can tag which shoes you ran in and it will total it up for you. Very helpful in deciding when to get new shoes.

I ran in the Mizuno Wave Inspire for ever but then Mizuno changed the shoe and it doesn’t work for me anymore. Switched to Brooks Ravenna and really like them so far. I want to try the Brooks Cascadia since I have been getting into trail running. I did 10 miles on the trails tonight with friends :)

Reply

Janae! you had read my mind! I was asked myself when I should change a pair of running shoes. Yesterday I purchased a pair of Brooks Ghost 6 what do you think of theese shoes? Today will be my first run with them I will start to keep track of the miles with them. I really apprecciate your opinion! Thank you so much

Reply

Right now I’m on my third pair of pureflow 2s…the first two pair started to give me little twinges once I hit 250 miles and I forced a few more runs out of each bc I refused to let thT be it!! For my cushioned shoes, I use brooks ghost and I think they last about 450-500 miles.

Reply

I’m going to try Pump for the first time in a couple weeks! I’m excited to try it out ;-)

Reply

I replace based on how my knees feel… when I can feel the runs in my knees I know it’s time… I always try to track my mileage and it works for about one week and then it’s over… I also try to cross train in a different pair of kicks just to preserve my runners…

I’ve been rocking the Mizuno Wave Inspire 10s… I LOVE them… But i’m not partial to just one brand… I’m trying out different brands to figure out what’s best for me.

Lastnight we went out to dinner.. I had stuffed lobster and champagne… it was awesome and much needed after a LONG week at work… TGIF

Reply

I was just thinking about my shoes while running this morning. I have about 400 miles on them and I’m starting to feel a twinge in my hip that’s pretty unusual for the mileage I’m doing, so I know it’s time to replace! I just hate spending the money :(

Reply

Damn girl you make me want to get fit ASAP!

Reply

I am always surprised when my body tells me that I need new shoes. I start feeling kinda achey in my feet and shins and then a little bit later I finally realize that it’s because my shoes are old- whooooops!

Reply

I’ve been running in Brooks Ghost for over 9 years…they are my perfect fit. I don’t track every mile on each pair of shoes, but I get a new pair around 400 miles. Then I swap them in and out for a few weeks and save my older pair for mud/rainy runs.

Reply

Just last week I FINALLY replaced my shoes – they had at least 600 miles I’m sure! I want to be better about replacing them this time – I’m going to keep track of miles. I just bought Brooks for the first time and I’m in love!! Nothing against my old Mizunos, but Brooks are amazing!

Reply

Oh man, I am HORRIBLE about replacing my shoes. I usually consider shoes to be an investment in my health (feet, ankles, legs, knees, back) and basically my sanity — thus, I purchase REALLY expensive shoes. My current pair has almost 1200 miles on them, and I bought the pair in January. It’s so hard to buy multiple pairs because they’re so expensive, but I really need to learn to bite the bullet with shoes if I’m going to be preventative about injuries.

Reply

I am still on the hunt for the perfect running shoe. I believe that you should alternate shoes for injury prevention (bonus: more shoes), so while I run most of my miles in Nike Pegasus, I try to make one run a week in my Saucony Mirage. I wanted to like the Brooks PureCadence but they didn’t work right for me — but my sister loves them.

I’m new enough to running that I’ve only replaced my shoes once (Altra Torin — only 270 miles and I’d worn through the outsole!) but I’m such a nerd that I track mileage in a spreadsheet….

Reply

I usually get about 400 miles out of shoes before I start feeling it.

Reply

Haha I am NOT an efficient runner so I typically get new shoes after 300 miles. I keep track on the inside of the shoe box. When a pair gets over 300 miles on them, I use them for very light/short jogs and cross training. And I only wear running shoes for running. It hurts my heart when I have to wear them for other activities (like if I forgot to bring a spare pair of shoes to run errands). ;)

Reply

Just switched in April to the Saucony Guide 7s after Mizuno crushed the dreams of every Inspire 9 lover by releasing the Inspire 10s, which are in fact the WORST shoe I’ve ever worn. The Guide 7s are almost identical to the Inspire 9s though, so I’m happy! I was a hardcore Mizuno snob before that too.

I buy a new pair of shoes at ~250-300 miles. Then I go back and forth and ween myself off the old shoes slowly and they become my cross training shoes :)

I have been cast adrift since they ditched the Mizuno Wave Inspire 9’s. I have tried every other Mizuno shoe and can’t find another one so comfortable. I am so happy to hear I’m not the only one who is so unhappy with the update. I wish they would bring them back! I will try the shoes you recommend. Thanks!

They’re awful right?! I had to replace my 9s in the middle of marathon training, so I forced myself to run in the 10s and they seriously almost fractured my toe because the toe box is so narrow. I would actually get bruises! They might be fine shoes, but they’re NOTHING like the 9s!

I went to RoadRunner Sports and let them recommend shoes for me, basically like I was starting over. So if all else fails, try that too!!

I have felt like the Princess and the Pea lately, because I can’t find shoes that are just right. I loved the Saucony Triumph 10’s (ran through 3 pairs), didn’t like the Triumph 11’s the pair has languished in my closet, am trying a new pair of adidas (blanking on the actual name of the shoe).

I have a friend who writes the date he started wearing his new running shoes with a sharpie on the back of the shoe. He knows generally what his weekly mileage is, so he can track what kind of mileage he has on them.

It doesn’t work for me because I alternate between about three or four pair of shoes. (I usually buy them on sale and rotate them in — but luckily they’re usually all different colors and/or brands, so I sort of know which I’ve used more than others)

Brooks Adrenalines – I probably get about 300 miles out of them before I am ready to change them.

I am currently training for an October marathon, and I’m on week 2 of an 18 week training plan. I teach Les Mills classes… which I could totally see you doing too! I teach BODYPUMP and CXWORX and I’m OB-SESSED :) I’m usually doing both classes at the gym or on my own 2-3x a week.

I recently bought a new pair of Sauconys and I ended up immediately injured..I didn’t realize it was the shoes at first..I finally gave them up and went back to my old shoes and so much better..but my pinky toe is pushing out of the mesh..need new shoes..but since I need expensive shoes..I don’t want to buy a new pair with bad results

I wear my shoes until the cloth falls apart. This is usually about a year because I am pretty light on my feet. I currently am running in Adidas Supernova. I’ve had them since December and run approximately 25 miles/week = 500+ miles. They still feel good on my feet, but the uppers are getting a bit worn. I expect that I can get a few more months out of them.
