My Secret Weapon

The whole sleeping thing didn’t really happen Friday, Brooke had a fever.  What child is still smiling with a fever?  She was extremely cuddly though.  Cuddling with Brooke > than me sleeping.

She did feel well enough for our daily tradition of discussing important things while we eat apples and almond butter together

I usually take Fridays off completely but during Brooke’s nap I just needed to get out and do something, I was having cabin fever…  Elliptical and 20 minutes of strength training did the trick.

I solved two problems yesterday by eating my soup directly out of the pan:

1.  I am lazy and didn’t want to do an extra dish.

2.  We don’t have a bowl big enough to fit all of the soup and this way I didn’t have to get up to get seconds.

This was the TJ’s minestrone soup and I always add spinach to the soup while it is cooking.

I’ve really been into this whole ‘make bread every day’ thing lately.

Please tell me that you get really excited when you notice that you have two ripe bananas because you know that means it is time to make those babies into banana bread. Recipe HERE.

The recipe doesn’t tell you to add chocolate chips on top but I strongly encourage/recommend/think it is necessary to do so.

Friday night has just become pizza night for me.  I swear it makes my long run the next day feel really good.  It is my secret weapon.

Thai Chicken and Bacon Chicken Ranch… Both incredible.

Time to knock out 20ish miles!  No tempo, no speed, just easy miles with the girls followed by sitting in the river for an ice bath.  Sounds like a perfectly normal way to spend a Saturday morning to me.

Have an amazing Saturday!!  Eat something extra delicious today.

My son was always super snuggling and sweet when he was Brooke’s age and sick. In fact, I always knew when he was coming down with something because he would suddenly slow down and be so sweet and pleasant rather than making me chase him all over the place…boys. lol

there’s a gluten free pizza place in Denver and I think I have to make it my priority. All these pizza posts are killing me.

Also…I’m missing my little grandson. But I do appreciate the smiles of Brooke to tide me over. The first one is priceless. I hope she’s feeling better.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! for spreading awareness on how DELICIOUS and NECESSARY chocolate chips are when you are making banana bread! I mix them straight into the recipe every time and people always say I’m “crazy” or “those flavors don’t mix”. What doesn’t mix with chocolate?! Come on people! So glad to FINALLY see someone (other than my daughter!) agrees with me! :)

Banana bread is SO good! I am a really picky banana eater, so as soon as they become even a little brown or soft I won’t eat them unless they are mixed in with something else (smoothie, bread, etc.). Have a great run and give Brooke lots of get-well hugs!

Reply

I don’t really eat bananas unless they are in bread form! I also add chocolate chips to my zucchini bread. Delicious!

I hope the Brookers feels better very soon! In the meantime, enjoy the extra cuddles!

I feel you on the bananas! Except I hate baking, so I freeze them to make banana bread later…currently have 5 batches of old bananas in my freezer.

Saturday we made yummy nachos to nibble at while we started an intense game of Monopoly. Followed by by chorizo, bacon , lentil and veg soup with a crusty baguette from the oven. Was fantastic fun with the whole family.

I love love love the idea of Pizza for a pre-race carbo load. I will definitely be trying that this week, and thank you for reminding me that banana bread is amazing and I should definitely use my ripe bananas for that instead of my usual smoothies! :)
