How to spend the day after a race.

Race recap will be the next post coming at ya… I always take a bajillion years on recaps because I don’t want to forget to include anything (even though I can only remember 5% of my races because I think I lose all brain power after mile 2).

After the race we did a few cool-down miles, cheered on our friends and then took an ice bath in the river like usual.  I am starting to crave our river time because I just know that my legs feel sooooo much better when I do push through the 8 minutes of sitting in the freezing water after a hard run.

I got home and had approximately 11 minutes (seriously) to get ready to go to a baptism.  The pen and notebook kept Brooke entertained the entire time, she was taking very detailed notes.

My friends get to eat at the below restaurant for free and so when they invite me to go there is no possible way I can pass up this salad and guac.

IMG 0897

Large salads just make me happy.

Brooke has now moved on from just wiping her own mouth after each bite and she now insists on cleaning mine too.

IMG 0917

Fast forward to dinner because let’s be honest nothing remotely exciting happened during this time, I am extremely lazy after a race.  I did do some sit-ups though.  Random.

She likes to put her hand on my dad’s head when he carries her.

Date night (don’t worry, they got food too but I practically ran to the salad bar first thing when we got there because I needed it asap).

IMG 0908

It just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t go to the park with the amazing weather going down in Utah right now.

IMG 0915

When I got home from my race yesterday my dad had my favorite treat in the world waiting on the counter for me.

Dad of the year award goes to him.

I went out with Paige for a little while after Brooke went to bed and then I was in bed with my above best friend bears and Divergent (we are reading it for book club).  Pretty successful day.

Sounds like a great way to spend the day post-race! I was somewhat productive yesterday, but we did go out to a steak dinner which was a nice treat! Usually my favorite post/race meal is some sort of burger with fries!

Glad you had a good race! Sweet picture of your parents and Brooke!

I just read the Divergent series a couple months ago! You’ll love it!

Today is V’s 7th birthday. So yesterday he had soccer pictures as well as a game, then we hit up the grocery store for supplies and cupcakes for the party..and our green smoothies. Then the usual cleaning/laundry.

Sounds like such a great day. I have read Divergent, and I loved it! I am on the third series of the book now. Yesterday I would say I was pretty productive. I got in a five mile run and an arm workout in the morning and in the afternoon I played sand volleyball with the Hubs and friends for a few hours, got ice cream, and then went out to eat with my parents for dinner. It was busy busy so fun!

Reply

Congrats on your race! Loved Divergent… cool movie too. :)

Saturday was spent walking around at trades days, and we got some cute things for our house. So I’d say productive!

Reply

Looks like a really nice Saturday!! Can’t wait for the race recap!

My ultimate post race meal is a turkey club, fries and a beer :)

There were two best parts of my Saturday… I finished my first marathon in 3:48, which was my secret goal. I crossed the finish line to find my boyfriend waiting there with a ring on one knee! I was in so much shock, I almost forgot to say yes!!! It was definitely a race and a day I’ll never forget!!

Wow!! Beautiful proposal story, congratulations!!

Reply

That’s double awesome!!! Congrats!!

Reply

Oh my goodness! That is the cutest thing ever!!!!! Huge congratulations:) I am so happy for you!

Reply

SO exciting! :) Congrats Brittnee on your first marathon…and also on your engagement :)

Reply

Was this at the Lincoln Marathon? As I was walking back to downtown I saw a proposal in the works!! Congrats!

Reply

Sounds like a great day! Haha very much like my Sunday last week with a race and then a billion things to do and eat after!

Reply

The best part of my Saturday was my 6 mile run with my running group. I almost didn’t get up to make it there in time, but I’m so glad I did!

I was strangely productive yesterday, now I’m tired and plan on being lazy today!

Ultimate post-race meal would probably be some kind of buffet! Usually I will have pizza or something I have been craving before the race. Sometimes something pops into my head at about mile 9 (and I think about it the rest of the race) and then I know what I should have for dinner!

Reply

My favorite post race meal is a burger and a huge salad! I am not a big meat eater, but it always tastes so good after a long hard run!

Reply

I woke up early yesterday and decided to go for a run (it was supposed to be my rest day) and loved being outside in the quiet at 6am. Too bad I was unbelievably tired by 7pm!
We also spent all day at my daughter’s 2nd dance competition. Her group placed First for their age in ballet and 9th overall in their age category! They were great!

By the way, the chocolate cinnamon bears freak me out a bit….can we still be friends?

Reply

I’m in between. Supposed to ride 50 miles today but the wind may nix it. Your salads always looks amazing!

Reply

Haha, I also loose my mind pretty quickly during races and I can remember nothing else but the excitement, pleasure, and the incredible pain that comes with finishing a race.

Reply

I had an in-between day yesterday. I had a long run fail…:(….I had 14 miles to do but my knee was tightening and felt off so I cut it at 9 miles. I went to the grocery store, but I forgot something (I hate that!!!) so I have to go back today! I also did a little cleaning.
You had an awesome race and you did a ton after…I think I would be dead!
Right after a race I am usually a bit sick to my stomach feeling…but when I get past that I crave breads and salty things like goldfish!!!!!!

Reply

Fairly productive day- 8 mile run in the morning, trained a client then taught boot camp. Then did errands with hubby and baby boy, and finished day off with sushi/sashimi date night. Can’t wait to read your re – cap.

Reply

Your friend’s daughter looks just like her mom <3

Reply

Looks like you had some awesome salads, yesterday! I’m really lazy after a race day, especially if it’s a half or more. I think way lazier than you. ;)

Reply

Oh my love divergent! I read it so quickly bc I was addicted then finished the rest of the series! Hope you enjoy it too! Looks like you had a great Saturday! Also are you thinking of running RW hat trick again in oct?

Reply

My favorite part of Saturday was a bacon grape and gouda pizza for lunch. I went out to a new restaurant, tried a new type of pizza and ended up loving it so much that I went to the grocery store, bought up the same ingredients and will be making it on my own for dinner tonight. :)

Reply

Sounds like a great race day to me!

Reply

I loved Divergent and the next one, Insurgent – the movie was good too – but I try to pretend that Allegiant doesn’t exist! I was so angry when I finished it I was tempted to hop on a plane to the States, track her down and demand to know what she was thinking with that ending!

Reply

Best part of my Saturday was hanging out with my husband after work oh and I had a pretty amazing 8 mile run in the morning! It was on a treadmill but still went great.

Awesome job on your half!! I want your times!! :) You are amazing!

Reply

I was lazy. No run, slept in. I think I was tired because my car was stolen on Friday and once the adrenaline subsided my body crashed.

Reply

Yesterday I weight trained, spin class and swam so I wasn’t lazy at all! Last night got no sleep with my a/c going out. I haven’t decided if today she be a rest day. I’m exhausted and hot! My post race meal is always pita jungle, a local Phoenix eatery. They have a grilled salad to die for as well as homemade cilantro hummus.

Reply

Miwok 100km yesterday, soak in Pacific Ocean, Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food.

Reply

Sounds like the perfect day!!! 100k… Um wowzers!!!

Reply

You must tell us about Divergent!! I’ve been wanting to read it for so long! I spent most of yesterday Geocaching. It was a lot of fun! I ran 7 miles but it was one of the worst runs ever. My legs were dead. Favorite post race meal is either pancakes or stuffed french toast! Anything carb loaded works :)

Reply

So fun to run into you at PF, Janae! Brooke is adorable and your parents were so nice :). I hope you enjoyed your salad!

Reply

I seriously loved seeing you!!! Made my day!! Park day soon! Your girls are absolutely beautiful!

Reply

I just finished a half marathon and can’t wait for my post race dinner at The Cheesecake Factory – it’s a tradition for me and my son loves it too – can’t beat my favorite giant salad with the onion strings plus a mound of chocolate fudge cake.

Reply

I am always so jealous of your huge salads. I was lazy all day Saturday, which was good and bad at the same time. My body was glad for the rest but I hate being so nonproductive.

Reply

Had kind of a perfect Saturday: great run, birthday celebration with my whole family followed by date night with my husband which hasn’t happened for like 3 months. Glad you had a great race and a nice Saturday. Look forward to the recap!

Reply

Sounds like a sweet day, Michele! :)

Reply

I went on a long run in a new place so that was fun! Also, I love having my run done early in the morning, makes it so much easier to get it done!

Rest of the day was kind of lazy but not…off and on and the night was nice and quiet.

I only have done one half marathon and for dinner we had Mexican food, which is always nice!

The best part of my Saturday was the date I had with Annabelle, which is why I missed the baptism (I was bummed about that). We got pedicures, went shopping an had lunch. I am pretty sure I need to make friends with your MWB friend because that salad is seriously one of my all time favorites. I need the hook up;)

Seriously, good job on the race yesterday. You did amazing and I am just so stinking happy for you.

Megan gave me a huge bag of chocolate covered cinnamon bears for my bday. Lets just say they didn’t last long.

Also, let’s discuss the weather yesterday. Great for kids and park days? Yes. Great for pregnant ladies who still have 12 weeks left? Nope. The last 2 days have consisted of my hands and feet swelling up by the end of the day. Janae, it was 80 degrees. How the frick am I going to make it to July?

Reply

Congratulations on your good race! How is Divergent? I have it on my ” to read” list and am wondering what you think of it.

Reply

Best part of my day today was when I came back from my run and found an injured bird, not just any bird, but a Red Tail Hawk! I rescued it and the organization that came to get it is going to name it after me! So glad I got up super early to go running, Best. Run. EVER!

Reply

No question… Chocolate milk + Blueberry Muffin from Tim Hortons. It doesn’t sound ‘ultimate’, but it is.

Reply

That sounds ultimate to me!!!

Reply

So awesome on your race! I’m looking forward to the full summary.
My Saturday was productive: 12 mile bike ride, baking cookies + banana bread and then (best part) an afternoon walking around the outdoor Pearl Street Mall then dinner with my husband. And today, a Rockies game!

Reply

I LOVE hanging out with my parents post-race. We always get a killer huge brunch and then I try hard not to fall asleep before the bill is paid. ;)

My Saturday was a 12 mile run of doom. I tried out a new route, and it’s one I’ll NEVER DO AGAIN! Good to know, I guess, right?

Reply

My Saturday was fun and productive..2 hr workout, birthday party w my daughters, mass, and dinner and a fire to end the night!
Congrats, you are so fast lady! Love it!
I’ve never seen those chocolate covered bears in NC!!!
Favorite post race meal is whatever I’m craving!!

Reply

I do love burgers. Anytime, really. Doesn’t have to be after a race. Anytime.

Those little skinny jeans on Brooke are hilariously cute.

Reply

I’ve never even heard of chocolate covered cinnamon bears before your blog, but I sure would love to try them! That salad looks awesome! I just cut up all the ingredients so I could eat salads for lunch all week, and I can’t wait!

Reply

Sounds like the perfect way to spend your post-race day!

Reply

My favorite post-race meal is a full breakfast with the works: eggs, pancakes, bacon, oatmeal, grits, etc. I usually get a ‘sampler’ type meal so I can eat a little bit of everything!

Can’t wait to read your race recap!!

Reply

Love a burger & beer after a race :)

Reply

Wow. How can u like so good with only 11 minutes to get ready? True beauty, I say.
Brooke and your dad’s pic melts my heart.

Reply

I was just talking to my sister (who also reads your blog) yesterday about how we have never even seen chocolate-covered cinnamon bears. Such a tragedy! I will work on changing that very soon.

Reply

Mexican is the besttttt post race! Chips, guac, rice, veggies… too good!

Reply

Best part of today was a tie between helping my older daughter pack for a week-long field trip for which she was very appreciative and reading 200 pages in my book. From a reading standpoint, my day was very productive ;-)

I used to feel pretty spent and barfy after races, especially anything over an hour. Mashed potatoes always seemed like good idea…for like 5 bites.

Reply

God I love love love a big salad. I have a ton of mason jars hanging out for the wedding, so I am going to make a nice big salad for work tomorrow :)

Reply

Best part of my Saturday was having no real plans and just doing exactly what we wanted all day long…big breakfast, run, lazy lunch, reading in a hammock, movie…perfection.

Reply

No plans are the best :D

Reply

This Saturday was my favorite kind of Saturday–no commitments and gorgeous weather. Highlights included: double-header at the gym (BodyCombat & BodyPump), visit to the dog park, gardening, reading a good book outside for the first time in months, and chocolate, of course.

Reply

Sounds like a great time!

The best part of my Saturday was the sunshine and warm temperatures, FINALLY! I ran a nice five-miler, looking forward to my half marathon in two weeks!

My favourite thing to eat after a race? Well last year I discovered that I really do love chocolate milk shortly after finishing. Then once I get home all I want is two fried eggs with cheese on a bagel or toast. In fact, that’s what I think about most of the time that I’m running in general, lol!

Reply

Sounds like you had a great day! That’s so cut how Brooke wipes your mouth!

The best part of my Saturday was hanging out with my friends while grilling in their back yard!

Reply

I had a wonderful Saturday. Did 1k repeats out at the bike trail I work out at, then had a double in the afternoon. Got to see one of my sweet childhood friends for coffee after a local bakery in Folsom.
Favorite post race meal? First. Really good coffee. Or, a triple iced almond milk latte. That’s my favorite. I also love a big kale salad with lemon and olive oil. And, frozen yogurt. DELICIOUS.

Reply

I love the rest of the day after a race because I feel like I’ve accomplished so much!

Yesterday I ran 14 tough trail miles with a blogger friend that I got to meet for the first time! Afterward my son and I went to Burger 21 for the best burger I’ve ever had! I was so exhausted after my run and burger that I fell asleep for two hours!

Reply

Love the pic of Brooke’s hand on your Dad! Gah! So sweet!

Reply

I love some bunless burger and fries after the race!!! I can’t wait to get them on Sunday after the Prague marathon :)

Reply

Usually after a race I don’t want to eat until way later and it’s just whatever I can throw together.

I don’t even remember what I did on Saturday…

Reply

I still haven’t tried chocolate covered cinnamon bears. I’m totally failing!! I can’t wait to hear what you think of Divergent. I just finished the last book. Interesting series.

Reply

Ok, you’ve convinced me. I now have to officially seek out Chocolate Cinnamon Bears. ;)

Reply

Kind of a lazy Saturday -slept in a little, went to a neighbor’s Kentucky Derby party (so fun!), watched my kiddo’s flag football game, and got take ‘n bake pizza for dinner. :)
Divergent is great -get the other two books that follow so that you can just keep reading. I’m finishing the 3rd one, Allegiant.
Favorite post-race meal: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/02/crockpot-chicken-and-rice-soup.html
So good! I throw it in the pot before we head out to race then it’s ready for my tired-self afterwards. :)

My Saturday was very lazy and I spent it reading poolside with my sister!
