23.05 miles. Sometimes I question this whole marathon thing.

This was me at mile 7.  Not at mile 23.05.  I pretty much crawled to my car at the end of the run, there was no way any sort of jumping was going to happen at that point.

And the below picture was at mile 11.  Still happy.  I was not smiling past mile 16.  That is okay.  I am going to blame it on the fact that I got 4 hours of sleep on Friday night (instacare with Brooke for an ear infection and then of course I had to watch at least one episode of House before going to bed).  Whatever it was, yesterday was hard.  It was great as far as mental training goes because I had to push through to the end even though we ran by our cars (with 6 miles left to go) and let’s be honest…  If I was by myself, I probably would have jumped in my car instead of finishing.

I LOVED running into good friends all along the trail.  Everyone was out getting their Saturday long run on.  Lots of spring/early summer marathons coming up!

IMG 1174

Now just to run each mile 1 minute and 5 seconds faster (and 3.15 more of them;)

IMG 1175

Totally normal behavior.  The other week a group of 10 years olds (I am just guessing that is how old they were) walked by us while we were sitting in the river taking our ice bath (it was also raining and freezing outside) and they thought for sure we were crazy.  I wanted to explain to them that when I do this after a long run I recover four trillion times faster than when I don’t.

IMG 1176

I had a big breakfast and as soon as I finished I put chicken, a sweet potato, carrots and salsa in the crockpot for lunch.  I have the deepest love for the crockpot.  It makes life so easy and every food so delicious.

IMG 1188

Followed by the mandatory long run apple fritter.

IMG 1192

Eggs, avocados and english muffins for dinner and then I took my s’mores bars to a movie watching party.  They received great reviews.

And a hello from Brooke.

I hope you get to sleep in today, or take a nap or both.  I will be doing both.

Great run! So crazy how we are capable of running faster and farther on race day when those long training runs are so tough. It seriously amazes me every time.

I’ve got just 12 on the schedule today but then brunch and napping ;)

No sleep in for me! Max woke me up at 5:15 yesterday and 6:15 today – yay!!

Happy Mother’s Day! Part of my Mothers Day is going on a run. No sleeping in, but if I sleep in I can’t get to bed in a decent enough time to survive 31 Kindergarteners tomorrow! I was up with the littlest at 6:45, but at least the sun was up!

I really love your nailpolish/glitter situation you have going on right now! I need to figure out how to do that for myself!

Happy Mother’s Day!!!! I hope you get a good nap! Holy car 23 miles is a great long run and at a great pace!!!! Don’t worry…for a training long run you wouldn’t go as far as fast anyways :)!!! I never go longer than 20 in my long runs…but I am thinking about trying to…not sure if it will help me or get me injured :/
Have a great day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

I don’t know how you do that river ice bath thing! Brrrr. I was hoping for an early morning run this morning after yesterday’s too hot one, but my arch has been bugging me since then. No idea what that’s all about, but figured I should not give it more reason to be unhappy. I’m thinking today will be a yoga day instead.

I went for a run on the opposite side of Utah Lake from Provo yesterday (not sure which city that would be…) and let me tell you, it was one of the hardest runs I’ve ever done! Not sure why, maybe there was something in the air yesterday.

Wow! Wow, wow, wow! I am amazed! I can’t imagine the distances + speeds you do but I LOVE reading about them.

After really scaling back for the month of April (my hip was just not happy with me), I finally got my “long” run in yesterday–5.2 miles!! I felt awesome.

Today we have SNOW. We knew it was coming so it’s a rest, relax, baking kind of day.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Wow you are amazing! I did 4 miles yesterday afternoon as part of my taper for next week’s half. I felt like there were ten pound weights in my shoes :(. Is your friend wearing the Hoka One One? How does he like them?
Have an awesome Mother’s Day!

For slow, that’s pretty fast.

I will be rocking the crockpot this week.

Favorite crockpot recipe site? Or recipes?

Take a nap for sure. The sun is coming up at 5:30 for my little boy. I’d like to sleep until 6:30. Buy blackout curtains tomorrow.

I tried to sleep in, but my 7yr old kept coming in and asking me questions as he was wrapping his grandma’s and my gifts

Happy mother’s day! NICE job on the run! I don’t know what it is, but I seriously LOVE that picture of Brooke…#1, she’s just so much cuteness, but then #2, the flowers are so pretty!
I definitely slept in today- until 8:30! And I will probably take a nap too! haha ;)

Those s’mores bars!! I need to make them! Congrats on the 23. That’s awesome. Mental toughness is sometimes harder to work on than physical toughness. Well done!

happy mother’s day to you and your mother!! nice job on the 23 miler. ive been thinking about pace a lot lately… trying to pay more attention to it for my training runs in addition to HR. but anyway….your goal pace for the marathon is a 6:50…is that right? so your long runs are done about 60 seconds slower? thats what im figuring. thats about what i am doing for my full for september. i start slower than my goal pace and gradually go faster so i practice negative splits. id be really love to read about how you approach your different types of runs…i think i could learn a thing or two or three or four from you haha

I slept in as much as I ever do – 8:30 – it was great!

Have a great Mother’s Day – I hope Brooke is feeling better!

That sounds like an amazing run, even though it was not easy! Great job- you are going to be SO ready for your marathon!

you go girl!! 4 hours sleep prior to your long run is actually great practice since you’ll probably have the jitters the night before your marathon.
Hope little girls ear infection is gone now.
I’m giving my left ankle an ice bath right now. Tendonitis!!!!
Happy Mother’s Day!!

Well done Janea! Really impressed. It’s 2:42pm on Sunday and theoretically I still have that long weekend run ahead of me…I better get going soon. What are your top tips for getting out the door when you just feel a bit sluggish?

Ugh those ear infection nights, oh how I remember being up with my son (and remember them when I was a kid too suffering with the pain)…Have a very Happy Mother’s Day!

After 23 miles on 4 hours of sleep, you definitely deserve both sleeping in and napping! I got to sleep in until 0637, pretty impressive in my house. My 4 year old was too excited to give me her card and bouquet of Lilly’s to sleep any more ;) Off to do 3 miles, then lounge at the beach with Starbucks. Have a great Mother’s Day!!! (Fav crockpot recipes? I haven’t found any I’m wild about yet, but love the convenience, and don’t have the time or patience to try the ten thousand recipes on Pinterest to find the 3 or 4 that my family likes!!)

Have a wonderful Mother’s Day, Janae! Brooke is a lucky little girl. Way to crush your long run – I’m not sure I believe you when you say you were crawling back to your car. ;)

Sleep makes all the difference for sure! You’re awesome.
Happy Mother’s Day pretty girl! Have a great day snuggling Brooke!

Janae, I appreciate your honesty about how you feel on your runs. We all think you are Wonder Woman and most of us would have gotten in our cars with 6 miles left on a tough run. So, thank you for sharing your true feelings with us. We are there with you.

Have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day, Janae!! Sounds like you had a great run! And all of your food looks delicious, but especially those s’mores bars! I did sleep in today, it felt so wonderful. Yesterday I had an 18 mile race (yes, it’s an odd distance, but an instant PR!) and I placed second in my age group. I was pretty stoked since I never win anything, lol.

Hope you have a great day!

Wow what a run. One thing I regretted about my marathon training cycle was not running any miles over 21. I’m glad you had such a great run. If you could jump afterwords I guess it wouldn’t have been as high of effort. ;)

Reply

happy mother’s day! i hope you and brooke have a great day (and i hope she’s feeling better!). :)

wow, 23 miles! that’s amazing. my legs would be dead after that, lol.

Happy Mother’s Day! Just raced a 10k (still waiting on official time) and it was HOT outside! 23 miles is intense! I’ve never done that for training…pamper yourself today :)

Great long run! I am nowhere near that pace! I am lucky if I can get a pace less than 9………..slow and steady, that’s me. I hope to knock some time off for my June 7th 1/2 marathon………..I need to take off 5 minutes, and I have done that once before but I am just a bit nervous! The thick pollen and humidity and heat (we have already hit 90 degrees) makes it so hard to go fast!

Have a great day!

No sleeping in for me today! I was up at 5:30 for my long run. Sundays are my long runs and Saturdays I lift and spin. It’s 40-50 mph winds in AZ today so I wanted to get my run in before the winds kick up today. I have no idea how you bear the cold water! I’m such a whimp when it comes to the cold. Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy your time with that cute little girl of yours!

Hi Janae,

Was wondering if you are still working with a coach?

Not currently. I want to for my fall marathon!

Janae!
I ran the Fargo 1/2 Marathon yesterday, and finished in a time of 1:24:45. It’s too bad we didn’t run in the same race, because based on my finish yesterday, and your half marathon a week ago, we would have finished within seconds of eachother and could have become new running friends! I think you should consider racing Fargo sometime; it’s fast and flat and super friendly in terms of spectators!
I hope you enjoyed your rest day today!

Gotta say Janae, you can jump pretty high. We have high ceilings in our townhouse, and my husband asked me to jump and touch them. He asked if I was trying – I laughed, said yes and why? He told me I jumped maybe 6 inches in the air. Wonderful. Lol :( Guess that’s why I’ll stick to climbing instead of …. basketball?
