The last few things about Thailand.

Just a few more things about the trip!

IMG 0438

-I am thrilled that my PureFlows were able to hang out in Thailand too.  Running is proven to be the best way to see a new city (even if some of the time it was just me running back and forth to the gym to run on the treadmill;).

IMG 9834

-The way we started our trip to the islands.  Krispy Kremes in the Bangkok airport.  Life changing.

IMG 0546

-It may look like I am being all ‘thoughtful’ in this picture but I was actually thinking about how excited I was to eat french fries at the restaurant on the beach for dinner (as you can tell, I really missed American food).  From my instagram: hungryrunnergirl.

IMG 9814

-I will forever and ever miss the fruit stands.   Nothing hits the spot (not even donuts) like a big bag of mango, watermelon or pineapple.

IMG 0476

-I wondered why I always found chocolate on myself while I was there but

IMG 9774

then I remembered it is because we did things like go to the bakery every day.

IMG 9685

-I am extremely sad that I am going to just barely miss the Songkran Festival, a 2 week long Nationwide WATER FIGHT.  America, we need to do this.

IMG 9847 2

-Coke Light, you are okay but only 1/245 as good as Diet Coke.  BUT when you are drinking Coke Light by the pool in Railey, you are absolutely perfect.

 IMG 9837

-The beaches.  Just unreal.  The sand was so soft and the water was the perfect temperature.

Screen Shot 2014 04 04 at 8 55 46 PM

-The Thai people were incredibly kind.  They were so welcoming and friendly.

-Somehow I didn’t have jet lag at all going there or coming back?!?  I think there is something wrong with me.  I am beginning to think that I don’t actually need to sleep.

-It was so good for me to get outside of my bubble and to see more of the world.  I will take every opportunity I get to continue to do this.

-I will still never eat Indian food again.

If you ever have the chance to go to Thailand, you just really have to.  I am already planning when I am going to take Brooke out.

Right now I’m breaking in my new Newtons Distance S III – I wore them for a half marathon over the weekend and they felt great, really springy, until I stepped in someone’s Clif Blok. Ew.

Last chocolatey thing I ate: NUTELLA!
Best beach I’ve been to: Isle of palms, SC
I run in Brooks Pureflows too!
The only thing i’ve read lately are my nursing textbooks….eh.
I’m definitely adding Thailand to my list of places to go! I’m so jealous of all the mango sticky rice you got to consume!

I put a big handful of chocolate chips into a vanilla chobani. Along with a spoonful of peanut butter.
The beach near where my parents retired has such a place in my soul. So many of the best and worst moments of my life have happened there.

Reply

Those beaches look gorgeous. So does the food. I just ate a chocolate gu! Is it totally weird that I keep them in my bag at work for “emergencies?” :)

Reply

OMG! Those beach and fruit pictures look so great :D
Last chocolate-y thing I ate was from a See’s candy fundraiser sale. Dark chocolate with almonds. Yum!

Reply

I had edys grand chocolate chip ice cream this morning before I went to work. But they really skimped on the chips in my gallon!!

I remember Bermudas horseshoe beach like I was there yesterday. Soft sand and warm ocean water that was crystal clear!

I am in brooks ghosts now for a few months. Wore asics cumulus for many years prior.

I would miss the fruit stands too! Everything looked delicious….Last chocolately thing I ate – chocolate chips mixed in my peanut butter on top of an apple…My favorite running shoes of the moment – Adidas Energy Boost. Best shoes ever.

I recently read Still Missing by Chevy Stevens and loved it – definitely recommend it!

Reply

I just finished Insurgent, the second book in the Divergent series. It was so good that I read it all within 24 hours. Highly recommend.

Right now I’m reading the chronicles of Narnia and am really enjoying the series!

Hi Janae, looks like you had an awesome time!
On a note completely unrelated to your post, is your friend Elizabeth back in inpatient yet for her anorexia?
Last I saw of her were some truly horrifying pregnancy pics where she looked terribly emaciated and now she hasn’t posted for two months and took down the photo after receiving so many comments about how ill she looked.
I’m praying the poor baby survives, I have delivered several preemies who unfortunately passed away from malnutrition.

I bet Thailand was amazing in so many ways! I’m so glad you got to experience such an incredible trip. And thanks for sharing it with us! ;)
Last chocolatey thing I ate? Peppermint bark. Yes, it’s leftover from Christmas. My MIL had an entire box full of it sitting on her counter. How does anyone go that long without eating it?!
One of my favorite beaches is in the Bahamas. They are so bright and clear – just beautiful!
Aaaand I’ve been running in Reebok One’s, but I really haven’t been running much lately, so there’s that.
Not reading much lately. I need to get on that.

Reply

I loved the fruit stands in Hawaii.

I need to read the third divergent book.
I want to make those chocolate chip cookies.

If you hadn’t read it yet, The Wild by Cheryl Strayed should be your next book! Totally goes along with your idea of getting outside your comfort zone. She spent a few months hiking more than a thousand miles on Pacific Coast Trail by herself after dealing with death, divorce & some bad habits. It’s amazing!

Reply

I’m loving all of the pictures of you in Thailand, I’ve been waiting for the picture of you on an elephant…should I keep waiting?

I would like to say that the last choclately thing I ate was homemade hot chocolate, but then when I went to make it, realized I was out of my milk, insert sobbing tears, okay, not really, but I was really looking forward to it. Putting the kids down, getting ready for work today then sitting down with hubby for some tv watching and hot chocolate…sadly it was all a dream.

One of my favorite beaches was in Bora Bora, so beautiful, clear and warm and no waves, my type of beach.

Reply

I love all chocolate, all beaches, and all 14 pairs of my Brooks pureflow 2’s!

Reply

I am reading Allegiant. These books are so addicting! All of your Thailand pics look incredible!

Reply

I am so sad that you skipped thai food to have french fries and pizza…Thai food is so light, so flavorful and so different from Thai food you get in the US. I have been to Thailand several times and never got sick from it – and that’s all I was eating! On the other hand I did get sick after having Indian food in India (always very heavy) and did not have it for a good year. It will pass, I promise.
Your next stop should be China – Great Wall Marathon is an experience you will NEVER forget, I promise. If you have any questions about China, email me. Have been here almost 10 years.

Reply

I just loved reading all of your Thailand posts. I lived vicariously ;) And I WISH we had fruit stands around every corner like that!

Reply

Lol! I’m cracking up at the chocolate on your arm! You’re awesome! :)

I’m a Nike girl all the way. But for some crazy reason I went with some Asics a few months ago and I no like! But, I’m too cheap to buy another pair….so I’m toughing it out. I mostly use them for strength training so it isn’t too bad. For running, I’ll always stick with my Nike Pegasus! I wonder if Nike has rollerblades…I’ve been taking that up lately, lol!

Favorite book- The Giver. But you could read that in like 2 days. I LOVED the Outlander series! (Disclaimer: it is a little racey with the love scenes…but not like what I hear 50 shades of Gray is like.) I just read The Witness Wore Red in like 3 days and I seriously couldn’t put it down! Also, The Constant Princess is great and The Other Bolyn Girl.

Just started wearing Mizuno Wave Riders in January and I’m in love! They are so comfortable! Thailand looks amazing, and I am so jealous of your awesome trip! I made a super chocolatey-banana smoothie after my long run yesterday and it totally hit the spot :) I just read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and it was really good!

I want to go to Thailand so badly! I’m also newly obsessed with fruit stands but we have some in LA. Right now I’m reading McCarthy’s Bar: A Journey of Discovery in Ireland. I’m obsessed with Ireland.

Reply

I’m currently eating some chocolate & caramel ice cream — yum! :)

Reply

I had some ice cream that had a HUGE chocolate brownie in the middle. EPIC! I love Hilton Head in South Carolina. My favorite of all time. Always stick with my Wave Riders!

Reply

I just started wearing Pure Flows and love them! I regularly eat a handful of chocolate m&ms from the English office lolz. As far as books, well this is a selfish plug but my novel River in the Sea is 99 pennies on Amazon. :-)

Reply

I am rotating between the pureflows and pureconnects. I have so many of both. Now the question is which color do I wear for my marathon next week?

Reply

I just had a handful of dark chocolate chips and will probably eat chocolate ice cream later tonight. :)

Best beach is a tie between Mayflower Beach on Cape Cod (my hometown) or the beaches in Aruba! But I bet the beaches in Thailand would top those beaches!!

I rotate between my PureFlows and Ghosts.

Reply

Its looks like you had an amazing trip!

You have got to go to China. The Great Wall is absolutely amazing! I just love the Asian culture.

I’m reading the age of miracles. Its interesting! Full of mysteries!

WOW! Those views are breathtaking. I must visit Thailand.

My favorite beach that I have been to is in Alicante, Spain. It is a beautiful town and it was an awesome month spent studying/hanging out abroad.

That is so sad about the Indian food experience! :(

Reply

After reading all of your posts Thailand is now way up on my bucket list! It seems so beautiful!

Currently I am reading The Book Thief (which just became a movie) but I just finished a book called Firefly Lane. I really really think you would like it Janae! Go google it and read the summary! It made me think so much about life and all of its blessings:)

Reply

Everything about your trip seemed like it was so much fun (except the running in extreme humidity part)! I was already planning a trip to Thailand for next year, and now I really want to move it up to this year!

My all time favorite beach is MY beach, Fort lauderdale beach. I live one mile away from it and run around it all the time. Nothing better than hearing my waves crashing during a peaceful long run :)

Reply

What a memorable trip! My favorite beach to visit was in Mo’orea, My favorite local beach is Stinson even though it can be dirty and crowded.

I’m really enjoying Life of Pi.

Reply

I’m so glad you had a fun trip!

Last chocolatey thing I ate were some chocolate covered raisins. (Raisins are healthy so therefore this is practically a health food versus a candy food, of course.)

No running shoes for me right now. Got news of a femoral stress fracture on Friday. The thought of running shoes sort of makes me want to cry currently. (I guess I have not made it far out of the grieving stage yet?) But luckily reading your blog and your comebacks from similar injuries reminds me that it DOES get better. ;)

Now I’m going to go eat some more of my healthy chocolate raisins. Yup. :)

Reply

The last chocolatey thing I ate was dark chocolate with sea salt.

I have been alternating between my PureFlows and Transcends lately.

I am finally reading Mile Markers right now, I also started An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth.

Reply

coke light? I bet that was cool to try, but let’s be honestly nothing can compare to the American version! The fruit stands and food looks amazing but I bet I would be ready for some “home” food too! Glad to hear you had a happy, fun and safe trip :)

Reply

Last chocolatey thing that you ate? A very yummy chocolate croissant from a local French bakery.

Favorite beach that you have been to? Freeport, Bahamas.

What running shoes have you been using lately? Mizuno Wave Rider 17.

What are you reading right now? I just finished Second Wind: One Woman’s Midlife Quest to Run Seven Marathons on Seven Continents by Cami Ostman. I HIGHLY recommend it! It’s the only book I’ve ever read three times.

Reply

Thailand looks beautiful! My aunt and uncle lived there when I was little, but we never got to visit them.

The last chocolate thing I had was a chocolate milkshake on Fat Tuesday. I gave up sweets for Lent and haven’t had any desserts since.

I run in Asics and yesterday I gave my first pair ever of trail shoes a try on a 10-mile rugged trail race. They did great!

What are you reading right now?

Reply

You MUST read Elena Ferrante. She wrote “Days of Abandonment” and also “Lost Daughter.” I preferred “Days of Abandonment”–but it is somewhat emotionally intense.

Reply

I swear your questions are always to applicable to my life right now! I am literally eating dark chocolate as we speak (yes, we are having a conversation, duh). I have been obsessed with sea salt dark chocolate lately.

I just got new shoes! I’m in Mizuno Wave Inspire 10s – I love them so far.

Right now I’m reading Firefly Lane. It’s a novel about two young girls’ friendship that spans over 3 decades. So far it’s really good!! I am glad I’m actually into reading right now. I took quite a few months off there…

Looks like you had a great time on your trip!!

Reply

I’m reading the Divergent series and am on Allegiant. I had been hearing great things about the books and I am really enjoying them!

I live in Mexico and we have those fruit stands, too! It’s a little closer than Thailand…plus right now is MANGO season! I can’t get enough.

I’m currently eating a chocolate croissant while my dog stares at it longingly (and yes, no chocolate for dogs!).

It looks and sounds like you had an amazing trip – there was a little variety and uniqueness to every day. Glad you got to getaway for some “you” time. Last chocolatey thing I ate was a junior mint – because I’m obsessed. The most beautiful beach I have ever been to was at our resort in Bora Bora. Doesn’t get much better!

I’m reading the 5th Game of Thrones book right now.

Ooh, I love that last question! I’m rereading the Divergent series right now by Veronica Roth. Very Hunger Gamesy, if you’re into dystopian young adult fiction. :) I’m always looking for recommendations, too, so I’m going to lurk here for a while and find out what everyone else is reading.

Reply

Cadbury mini eggs, my parents brought me multiple bags since I will miss Easter(and the candy) in the US this year.
Favorite beach was Puka shell beach on Boracay Island in the Philippines-Unbelieveable!!!

Wait-there is difference between diet coke and light coke?? its something like Mars/Milky Way package thing over here in Europe and in States or…my world is spinning right now :) and I’m not soda drinker.

Reply

Glad you had so much fun in Thailand! Looks amazing!
The last chocolatey thing I ate was far too many chocolate chip cookies on Sunday.
I haven’t been to many beaches in my time so I don’t really have a favorite. Most of the ones I’ve gone to have been the touristy ones.
I use the same PureFlow’s that you have, same color and everything. I love them, in fact, I’m about to take them out for a spin. :)
I’m re-reading, er, listening to (on Audible), Catching Fire.

Reply

I made chocolate chip cookie bars last night. They are delicious!

I always wear Brooks Adrenaline’s to run. These days I’m just wearing them to walk, though. I guess that’s better than no exercise at this point!

Reply

the last chocolatey thing that I ate was about 6 Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs (no judgement)

My most favorite beach that I have been to is the black sand beach in Kona, HI-I’m sure it had a legit name but I can’t remember it was circa 2004

My current running shoes are Brooks Adrenaline and they are great but I am craving the Mizuno Wave Rider 17

Reply

I like to listen to books while I’m running – as I do that quite often I also am looking for books that are quite long or have may sequals.. .so I just started the Wheel of Time – it has 14 books :D I will be able to run with them the whole summer!

Running shoes – Asics Kayano and Adidas… something – but I’m not very happy with either at the moment. Still looking for the perfect mach.

Reply

You poor thing and your Indian food :(
I had a mini milky way yesterday
My favorite beach is probably St. Thomas
I’ve been using Mizuno Sayonara Waves. This is my second pair, I had a hot spot in my first pair, but this one seems to be working out well.
I am re-reading To Kill A Mockingbird with my classes right now.

I just got a pair of PureFlows after running in Brooks Ravennas. I ran 20 miles in them and loved them! But then, I wore them for a shorter 6 mile run the day after, and I got really bad pain in my pinky toe in my right foot. Not sure why the pain only appeared after a shorter run when I felt fine on the long run. :(
