Monkeys, snorkeling, french fries and I feel human again.

No big deal… Just a monkey hanging out in the truck in front of us.

IMG 0548

Once we landed we drove to the boats to get to where we were staying.   We all almost dropped our luggage in the water but luckily we didn’t because I hear electronics aren’t exactly waterproof.

IMG 9800

I slept great and woke up better but running was still out of the picture for me.  I was just happy to feel like a human being again.   I am also really happy that I won’t be sick for the 19 hour flight back home… I can’t even imagine being sick on an airplane for that long.

Girls time (aka my life) is kind of the best.

IMG 0558

This morning we decided to go on a 4 island boat tour.

I think I am going to keep my ‘not ever doing my hair’ streak going when I get home.  Life is just so much easier this way.

IMG 0561

Chicken head island…

IMG 0563

We got out and did some snorkeling with the trillions of fish in this area.   I have mixed feelings about fish, they are beautiful and awesome to watch but they kind of freak me out too.  I am weird.

IMG 0567

I am going to get really good at rock climbing so that the next time I come and visit Sarah we can do this:

IMG 0575

And the last island that we went to.  The sand was white and soft and the water was the perfect temperature.

IMG 0586

After not eating anything (besides some mashed potatoes ((I know)) at breakfast) for over 24 hours because of my silly stomach, all I could think about were french fries.  I am so glad that we found a place that could fulfill this need of mine.

IMG 9808

I think I will have fries for dinner too.  And a big bowl of ice cream.  Pizza too.

The last place was a cruise… so the last island was St. Kitts. I LOVED it there :)
Umm- I feel the SAME way about snorkeling- it is good, but frightening! I am always worried that a fish is going to bite me or something.
Running is finally going well again! 10 miles in the sun yesterday afternoon, looking forward to more today. Less than 3 weeks until Boston!

Last place was a road trip through Utah actually! And my family hiked in Zion (the weather was gorgeous!)
Food craving would have to be cheese! And bubble gum!? which is not technically a food but a flavor! (:
Running is still a slow process for me…injuries are a huge set back, but I’m determined! (:

Oh my goodness, it looks beautiful there. I can’t get over the water color!

Last place I went on vacation was Ocean City, NJ, and I’m hoping to visit Nantucket next! :)

We just took our 2 year old and our 2 month old to California for the first time. We flew into San Jose where my husband was working, then we drove down to Disneyland and flew out of L.A. On the drive down we stopped at a place called Pismo Beach which I had never heard of before, but now is one of my favorite beaches and I want to go back.
I like snorkeling, but last time I went I was in Hawaii and it got a little scary. I looked up and realized we were REALLY far from shore and started having a panic attack because I thought I was getting dragged out to sea. But I saw a pretty awesome sea turtle.

Reply

We love Pismo! That was our getaway spot when we lived near Fresno. It’s an easy going town and the people are super friendly. Lots to do in the area .

Chicken Head Island looks like the Loch Ness Monster to me. Running is going great! I have my very first 5k planned for late April, and I just ran four days in a row–which is a big deal for me, because I have been taking it very slowly after I injured my hip last fall.

Reply

OMG that sandwhich looks delicious. it is 8:39 am and i WANT IT. NOW.

Also-everything is SO beautiful! The rocks, the water, the sun…you look like you are having SO MUCH FUN and i am super dee duper jealous! :) Love it!!

I have been craving sushi and edamamme! There is this roll at this local joint called the Spice Girl Roll (to die for)… It’s all I can think about:(

You won’t be living through my running:( I’ve only gotten one run in this wk and I have a half marathon this wknd! I’m hoping to squeeze two more runs in before Saturday (nothing nuts just confidence boosters)…
When is your trip over?

Wow, such a fantastic adventure!

Our last vacation was to beautiful Cape Town and our next planned one is to Namibia – can’t wait!

Hello there! I wanted to say two things. First, I am loving your blog. You got me back into running again. Your blog is so positive. I love all the pictures and commentary.

Second, I live in the tropics and food poisoning sucks! ANYTHING can give you it over here as food goes off so fast. Take care. Stay away from ice in drinks!

Best,
SB

I hope you are feeling better! Getting sick in foreign countries is never fun. The last vacation I went on was to Disney World, which was fun but only a short flight away. I would love to go to Puerto Rico one of these days. And your Thailand pictures look amazing.

I haven’t really been craving any food lately – or any specific food. I’ve been craving food in general and wanting to eat all the time!

I went for a short three mile run the other day at work and will be doing the same today. I can only fit in a 3 mile run during lunch so that’s pretty much my runs these days!

Have a great rest of the trip!

Reply

So jealous of your awesome trip! Minus the food poisoning of course.

My next vacation will be to Disneyland in November to run the Disney Avengers Half Marathon!

I just love that monkey hanging out in the back of the truck haha! Next place I want to go vacationing is Hawaii!! It’s been years since I went, so I will make it happen! Hmmm I’ve been craving pancakes a lot lately! I guess I’ll have to just make Protein Pancakes tomorrow :). Running hasn’t been my favorite lately, but I’m really looking forward to my run today! 4 miles, and I’ll increase the speed every 1/2 mile :)

Reply

Last adult big vacay was to Cancun, it was awesome! Next place on our list is a Caribbean cruise with our kiddos!
I’ve been eating veggie wraps every single day, yum!
Running has been good lately. I’m training for a 1/2 at the end of the month that has hills, so last night was a mix of speed and hills :)

Reply

The last place I went on vacation was San Francisco! I reeeeeeally want to go to Paris or Hawaii right now (random two, I know!). I have been craving a soft pretzel lately. No running this week because of a foot ligament strain :( hoping for a speedy recovery!

Reply

I crave chocolate every flippin day of my life…is that bad?

Probably not as bad as the fact that I eat it every day of my life. Oh well…

Reply

I am so glad you are feeling better! Sounds like that food poisoning was no fun but your trip is amazing!

The last place I vacationed was the Cape in Massachusetts, and it was perfect. Just so relaxing and gorgeous. I went on lots of beautiful beach runs and ate tons of ice cream :-)

My running has been steady lately. I’ve had a lot going on in my personal life, so it’s been a great outlet!

Reply

So glad you’re feeling better!!! The last place I went was Georgia, and it was beautiful and warm!

Reply

So glad your feeling better. Wow monkey just sitting there, totally awesome. The boat trip looks amazing, and who can beat snorkeling in clear water with tons of fish. Good your getting some food back into yourself.

Last vacation – snow trip here in AZ
Want to go – Colorado, want to go running up there
How is running – up and down, tired legs had been making training challenging

The last place I went to was Florida, but I’m going to Aruba in June and I can’t wait! As for running, I just signed up for my first race. It’s a 5K also in June :)

Reply

Sean and I went to San Francisco for a long weekend over New Years so I could run a race. Isn’t that why everyone goes on vacation? And if it isn’t, don’t you FIND a race while you’re on vacation?
I thought that was the rule in order to be a runner.
I am badly in need of an escape. For sure.
I have never been anywhere as exotic as Aruba (my comment is underneath Chrissy@pinkpolishandrunningshoes so I’m hopelessly jealous). I have children. They suck all my money!
French fries sound amazing right now. For breakfast is totally fine with me.

Those pictures make me want to go back to Thailand sooo bad! While it wasn’t purely a vacation (medical mission trip), Udon Thani, Thailand was the last “big” trip I’ve taken. I’ve also gotten to go to some places in the US for conferences (Santa Monica, Newport, DC) within the past year. Hoping to go to Morocco before I start residency in June! Also on my list is Mt. Kilimanjaro sometime in the next 5 years.

Reply

Thailand is so beautiful! Last place I went was Disney World and we are already planning our next trip back, we are Disney junkies.

Running is going great, eating not so great, too much ice cream….

Reply

My running has been not going lately. I’m having some foot issues after a half I ran on sunday. I do have a 5k this saturday though so hopefully it feels better by then!

Reply

So glad you’re feeling better! The last vacation I went on was to the Bahamas. I would love to go back to the Caribbean but Europe is also great! Next Europe trip I want to go to Norway! That’s where my family is originally from (way way back) and I’d LOVE to visit and learn more about the country!

Reply

Looks amazing! I’m glad you’re feeling better to enjoy it all!

Reply

I’m so glad you’re feeling better! Last evening I led my local running group for the first time. :) We took a route along the docks in Kirkland, WA. Totally beautiful! Going for 13.1 this weekend for a solo half marathon, then on to 14… which I’ve never run, before.

Reply

So glad you are feeling better. What a trooper boating, and snorkeling with a less than optimal stomach.
I have been craving cheese lately.
My last run was 30 minutes, but speed work. Give me a long slow run any day!

Reply

My last real vacation was a cruise back in April 2012, but have had several ‘race-cations’ and weekend getaways to the beach. Don’t be sad for me though, I’m leaving in 2 weeks for a 17 day African getaway. :) I have been craving fries too!!! I must eat some this weekend. Running has been going pretty well, running a half marathon on Saturday for ‘fun.’ Glad you’re feeling better and can enjoy the last little bit of your trip!

Reply

Hmm, it has been way too long since I have been on vacation. The last place was last August, I went to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. I need a vacation asap! Starting a new job is tough because you don’t have vacation days right away. :(

I am so glad you’re feeling better. P.S. That water and those views look amazing!

Reply

Oh those french fries look so good. I love french fries!

Last place I went to for vacation was California almost two years ago.

I did an 8K run yesterday and that was ok. Giant puddles and slushy filled sections meant I had to walk/tip toe around certain points. Then my stomach decided to act up and I had to cut the run short :-( But it was still a great day for running!

Reply

Glad you’re starting to feel better. Carbs are always best when the tummy is upset!

Last vacation I went on was to Colorado to ski with college friends. It was the BEST. I love that state – I want to try skiing in Utah next! My next vacation is actually tomorrow – I’m going to Charleston, SC for the weekend to run the Cooper River Bridge 10k. But my next REAL vacation is to London this summer – that’s where my parents live. I’m also running a 10k there :)

I have been craving air popped popcorn lately – I’ve made for myself almost every night this week. So good!!!

Running is…eh. I feel fast and excited about running but my LEGS are hurting so badly. I think my hips are massively misaligned. In the past week I’ve felt terrible in my right IT band, glute, hamstring, and knee (which never happens). UGHHH. We’ll see how the race goes this weekend…

Reply

I live in Colorado and you are right–it’s a beautiful (and very sunny state). Interesting you mention that about your hips being out of alignment. After my run on Monday I decided I was over the discomfort I was feeling in my left hip. Went to PT and pelvis is out of alignment. Working on that now, getting soft tissue work done and after 2 days total rest, got 45 minutes of swimming in today. That felt great. Going to really take it easy until I can run again (hoping Monday??). Good luck to you and your race!

Reply

I’ve been craving burgers and ice cream lately. Super healthy no? Loving all your pics….it’s making me want to go to Thailand even more than I already wanted to!

Last place I went on vacation was in January, I went on a cruise to St Thomas, St Maarten and the Bahamas. I absolutely loved St Thomas! The next place I want to go is Ireland and I’m planning a trip in 2015 and am already super excited.

Running has been okay, I’ve been healing a wounded foot but am looking forward to getting in some beach miles this weekend! (I am lucky to live in Florida:). Enjoy the rest of your trip!

last place i vacationed was Jamaica :) it was gorgeous, but i’m living out a dream vaca through your photos right now!

Running is going well! I did my first 15 miler in years and i fell down, but my knees are OK!

The last place I went on vacation was a long weekend in Washington DC in December – we walked around a lot and it was so relaxing.
Since the Mister Softee trucks have popped up again, all I want is a swirl cone with sprinkles

Fish freak me out too! I have never met anyone else who feels this way, I am so glad to know I am not alone in this world! I love snorkeling because it’s an amazing experience, but I never ever want a fish to swim so close to me that I feel like it’s going to touch me!

Reply

Your trip looks amazing!!! One of your pictures looks exactly like the picture on my beach calendar I have in my cube. I MUST go to Thailand now and see it for myself!!!!

Chicken head island! I see why :) So funny!!!

Last trip was in September. I need a vacation ASAP! Any hoo I went to South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana Wyoming and Nebraska to run a bunch of back to back half marathons :)

I’ve been overdoing it on Easter candy and pancakes lately.

I set a new half PR over the weekend! Today I have 8 easy miles to cover. All is going well with my training. Sooooo glad you bounced back quick. Enjoy this part of your trip.

Oh and I am the Same with snorkeling. Had a panic attack once in Bermuda when I realized what I was doing. Lol.

Food I’m craving- pizza!!! You don’t want to live through my running because I haven’t been able to run for 3 days. 1 was a rest day (so that doesn’t count), but the other 2 because I haven’t been feeling the greatest. Maybe today though :)

Glad you are feeling better. It looks beautiful there and I laughed when I saw the chicken head. A couple months ago my husband and I did a safari in Kenya, which was an incredible experience. We have our eyes set on Isla Holbox, Mexico in June!

My last trip was to NYC last September. It was so much fun! I definitely am due for a beach vacation soon. I haven’t decided where yet.

Hehe Chicken Head Island- jee, I wonder how it got that name?! ;) So funny! And ahhhh all of your posts are making me get the travel itch SO BAD!!! The last place I went on vacation was Huntington Beach last year and the next place? Well, I’m due in a few weeks, so I probablyyyy won’t be traveling for a little while!! We’ll see :) I’m already dreaming about it though!

You don’t want to live through my running–I’m going to the doctor today to get checked for a possible stress fracture. Hoping for the best, but preparing myself to graciously accept the worst.

The last big vacation I took was last spring to Disney. There were a few weekend camping trips scattered through the summer. :) Next place I want to go is Germany this Christmas!

I’ve been craving french fries, this rum cake: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Golden-Rum-Cake/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 and this chocolate cake: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Too-Much-Chocolate-Cake/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 Those are the two best cake recipes I’ve ever found. They’re dangerous though because once you start, you can’t stop. ;)

Running has been going okay. The first half of the week I had some kind of cold/sore throat thing. Made me feel pretty gross, and my 6 mi run yesterday suffered from it. Afterwards my lower back was hurting quite a bit, which has never happened. So I’m taking another rest day today.

Thailand looks beautiful!

So glad you’re feeling better!! Oh my goodness… it looks like you’re having a blast!! :)
I’m kind of jealous of your traveling adventures… I took a 2 hour roadtrip with my mom on Monday and that’s about as much traveling as this chica can afford right now lol…

I haven’t been on a real vacation since Florida in ’12. I want my next one to be in Thailand!
I’ve actually been craving healthy food lately. I’ve been eating too much junk and my body is telling me!
Running is going well! Today I ran a mile time trial in 5:52!

That is really awful that you got sick. I am so sorry to hear that! I hope you are feeling better! I am so jealous of your trip. It looks like you are having an amazing time.

I also have stomach flu…. craving marinated tofu … and also FRENCH FRIES with TRUFFLE SALT.

Wow what amazing pictures! I am so glad that you are feeling better :) Getting food poisoning and being sick on vacation is seriously the worst! I am going to be going to Belize after Christmas with my hubby and our sweet baby girl, and I couldn’t be more excited!!! Lately I have been craving chocolate a lot! I hated it all during pregnancy but the dang craving is back darn it ha! My running has been good lately. Pretty short runs, but I am just happy to be running again :)

Running is going great, I have been getting up at 445 in the morning to get my running in before work!
And I have been craving homemade Mac&Cheese!!!

I cannot BELIEVE how beautiful that water is! Such a gorgeous beach! Makes me crave a vacation.

Running has been s0-s0 for me lately. Not having anything to train for leaves me feeling a little purpose-less, but I’m ready to get back on the training wagon!

I always crave french fries after I’ve been sick. Isn’t that funny?

I get freaked out by fish too haha!

I’m loving reading your blog and about your trip!!

I’m really curious what you think of the diet coke?! When I’ve been abroad I’ve thought that the “coke light” tastes just like coke zero and not at all like diet coke. Obviously I drank it anyway, but I’m a diet coke girl and definitely missed that!!

Reply

Enjoy! I loved the area you are staying at – my favorite was canoeing around Hong Island!

Reply

I used to love fish but that changed when I went to Florida on vacation when I was younger. There was a hurricane and the ENTIRE beach was a blanket of dead fish. For the rest of our stay the beach smelled horrible and you had to walk all over little fish bones.

Reply

Looks like you’re having an amazing time!

Last place I visited was NYC last month — we keep talking about going somewhere new, but every time vacation comes around I just want to go back!

Reply

I feel the same way about fish!!! I’ve been lucky enough to go snorkeling in the caribbean a few times and I’m always torn between wanting to get as close to the fish as possible and freaking. out. if I get too close. It’s a dangerous game.

So glad you’re feeling better, it’s no fun being sick while traveling! Eat whatever you want today! :)

My last vacation was to Puerto Rico for a wedding and my next is to Cancun with my family – which is funny because I’m way more of a “historical/culture” traveler than a “tropical relaxation” traveler. Next on my “hopefully someday” list are Jordan, Paris, Gibraltar, Argentina, New Zealand, Glacier/Bryce/Zion/Arches National Parks, Italy, Iceland, Ethiopia, Madagascar………….. anyone have some lottery winnings they want to share with me? :)

I am loving these Thailand updates! Hoping to go in November this year, you’re posts are giving me great tips as to what to see during my trip!

OMG OMG OMG. The monkey! I thought I was always a fan of monkeys until I saw them at a zoo, then I kind of got afraid of them. So cool, look at the dude just chillin in the back of a truck like he’s taking a taxi cab or something.

Reply

I feel the exact same way about fish. Snorkling is definitely an adventure.

The last vacation I went on was to Nashville…I think?

Running today was pretty terrible. I did three slow miles outside with Bungee, but then went to finish on the treadmill and had to stop because the baby is giving me some lovely nerve pain that basically takes my leg out from under me. I ended up walking the last mile.

Reply

The water and sand sound perfect. I’ve been craving french fries lately, too. :]

The last place I went on vacation was technically my road trip (move) from Alaska to NY. My boyfriend and I took a little over a month to do the drive, zig zagging around to see family and sights around the country we wanted to see. It was a lot of fun!

I have been craving fruit lately. Thank goodness spring is here so we can start getting good fruit again!

My running has been going really well considering my work schedule. I just ran a half marathon about two weeks ago and am free from a specific training plan at the moment. I’m trying to figure out what works best for me and keep my mileage up!

Too funny, finish really creep me out too! I can’t snorkel b/c if I see fish near me I freak out!

The hubs and I went to Chicago! We had such a good time… soooo much good food!! I’d really like to go to Destin, FL or on a big Europe vaca. :)

I have been craving penne rosa from noodles and co… with their parmesan crusted chicken, of course!

Running is good! I was feeling under the weather last week (which is silly because the weather was actually REALLY nice)… this week the temp is dropping and it’s been ridiculously windy. I hope you feel 100% soon, chica! :)
