My run yesterday was lame sauce. It happens to all of us every now and then. 5 miles. I was so over it from the first step but now that my bad run is out of the way I am thinking that means that my long run today will for sure be incredible.
Enough of bad running talk, let’s move forward to lunch with the girls. The cute blonde on the left is doing a ONE HUNDRED MILE RACE in just 6 days. Can you even imagine? That is hardcore.
I didn’t think I was going to eat lunch there because I ate a big bag of turkey (I was really craving turkey for some reason) on the way there and wasn’t very hungry but once I saw the pizza I couldn’t turn it down.
From the back Brooke looks like an 8 year old when her hair is down.
I don’t see a thing wrong with having pizza for lunch and dinner. My brother-in-law had a work party so I went with my sis to the party and the pizza was amazing. Plus, free food always tastes infinitely better.
We then went to the men’s volleyball game and Brooke knows exactly when to clap and cheer.
Once Brooke went down to bed I was really into the two below things.
YESSSS:
Such a great list and Mile Markers (my favorite running book) is on there!

Favorite running book?
What is your run this weekend?
Who has done an ultra? Anyone want to do an ultra?

Laura @ Live, Run, Sparkle
Wow Brooke’s hair is crazy long! And I see nothing wrong with pizza twice in one day. Especially if you had different toppings.
I’m got all of my workouts in during the week days because my sister is flying in to visit me for the weekend, I’m pumped!
Karien @ Running the Race
Love Mile Markers too. Love all her writing, really.
I’ll do an ultra one day when I’m big…!
Gabrielle @ Marathons and Macarons
My run this weekend is the NYC Half tomorrow morning – it’s gonna be so cold! But I’m still excited. :)
My favorite running book is “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running.” I definitely want to read “Mile Markers”!
Christina (Sisters Running the Kitchen)
im running too! what are you wearing!?!?
sally @ sweat out the small stuff
i’m running too and so undecided on what to wear!
[email protected]
Pizza at any time of the day is a ok by me-esp breakfast time, I love it!!
Run this weekend will probably be a 20 today and tomorrow off!:)
I don’t think I will ever have the desire to run an ultra. To me it’s crazy-but-I know people who think running a marathon is crazy and I just keep coming back for more!!
HollieisFueledByLOLZ
I’ve had plenty of those runs as well. I had them a lot more last year when I was constantly busy with things but I’ve had runs that I haven’t wanted to start and then I count down from the moment I start to finish.
I cannot even imagine doing an ultra right now. After my first and only marathon I couldn’t walk let alone go anywhere or run another 5 miles. I really just felt like I was in the twilight zone.
Emmeline @RunForThePizza
I’ve always wanted to do an ultra, I have dreams about it! It’ll be a few years before I try though ;)
Elizabeth @ my neon running shoes
I’m going to find some good pizza today! That buffet looks delicious! I can’t wait to run again once my little girl is here :-) Thia weekend I’m going to stick with family walks though!
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan
My favorite running book is Run Like a Girl: How strong women make happy lives. Really good.
I want to read Mile Markers, it’s on my list. I have started Born to Run, but I got sidetracked and probably need to start over when I get back to it.
I might do a couple of easy miles with my dog today and have a 9 miler tomorrow. My half marathon is a week from today!
I have no desire to do an ultra, I still haven’t done a marathon! But I’m thinking about it!
Valorie
I just read Born to Run, and I loved it!
runningwithscissors
Mile Markers is without a doubt my favorite running book!
I’ve done a 50K. Thinking that will be as “Ultra” as I get. Mentally I thought…”How much harder can roughly five miles really be?” Well let’s just say……REALLY hard!! I wouldn’t say that I will never do another one again but for now I will stick with halfs and fulls.
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs
Holy moly, Brooke’s hair is long! She’s growing up so quickly :)
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More
Today will be a new trail run for me after work this afternoon. It will be just me and my pup. (One daughter is leaving for Spring Break today and my other daughter will be working.) It’s going to be in the 70’s again today!
Lindsey
Today 10k fun race for St Patty’s day and hopefully 15k tomorrow. Not sure about an ultra but marathon is definitely on my to-do list.
Amy in Minnesota
Fueling and caffeinating for my 18 miler in just a bit.
I’d love to tackle an ultra. I’ve heard the ultra community is quirky and super supportive. Sounds like fun.
Jackie
Brooke is precious in that picture!
Susan
Wow–Brooke does look so big! Just finished a 4.6 mile run. I can say with almost 100% certainty that I won’t do an ultra in my life. I am pretty convinced this body is not built for it and I just need to keep enjoying my 3-5 mile runs every other day.
Therese
I think any running that you do? Is just fine.
Mark Matthews
“Once A Runner” is probably my favorite and has some of the greatest passages, and “Born To Run” is a close second.
Ashley
My last run was pretty rough, 6 miles w/ the running stroller. So much harder than I anticipated!
Looks like a fun lunch date! Pizza is always a good choice!
Miss ya girl!
Funfitgirl
I’ve been meaning to read Mile Markers and this post reminded me!
I’ve had plenty of those types of runs…they happen to all of us. You just need to remember the good ones when that happens :)
Leah @ Running with the Hayneses
I’ve done 50K’s and 50M’s! Actually that’s all I’ve done for the past couple of years! My husband and my running buddy both did a 100 miler last summer, and I was in awe. I do NOT want to ever do one, but it’s pretty incredible to participate by crewing and pacing!
Naturally Carly
I would love to do a 100-miler. Not sure I have it in me, but it’s a secret dream of mine.
Runs this weekend are easy. I’m tapering for my race next Saturday.
Have a great weekend!
Brianna @ I run He tris
Brooke’s hair is so long and pretty!! It’s not running specific but Chrissie Wellington’s A Life Without Limits is an amazing book. I’m about to read it for the second time. I was only able to fit in 4 miles before my husband had to go out on his bike ride but I’m going for 8 tomorrow. Half marathon is the longest running race I’ve done, and I admire the ultra runners, but I just don’t know if I could do that!
Losing Lindy
maybe I should get Mile Markers. I haven’t read any running books. I should though
Bee
I am not a “runner” at all, still trying but I do love reading your blog. You and Brooke (and nieces, nephew, etc) always put a smile on my face. Thank you so much!
Amy @ runlikeabird
I’m running the Kirkland Shamrock Run 5k with my Pops (just about to leave for it, actually!), and I’m thinking I’ll pay for a short Saturday run by attempting 10-10.5 miles tomorrow morning. :) We’ll see if this Seattle weather holds!
So glad to hear you can empathize with people who have lame runs. Mine after a baby shower on Thursday was depressing. The entire time I was thinking, “I don’t actually want to be doing this. Why are you making yourself run?” Afterward I ate ice cream to feel better about my choices.
Lindsey C
I have a good friend who is running 99 miles in Scotland in June… Makes my 3 miles thus morning seem pretty pathetic! Haven’t read a running book, but maybe I’ll pick one off your list and hopefully get inspired :) I’m not a natural born runner, but it’s cheap and always available, two things essential in my crazy life, so I’m trying to fall in love with it… I read in a blog once (don’t remember which one) “Run ’til it’s Fun”… This has become my mantra ;)
Brittnee @ Nebraska Running Girl
My favorite running book is Running for Women by Kara Goucher just because she’s awesome, and by reading her advice I feel like it could make me a little bit more awesome ;) Chicken Soup for the Runners Soul is good too. I don’t really like to sit down and read, so the short stories I can read quick for inspiration are more my style.
Running a 5 mile race today and then an easy 10 tomorrow. Nice break from the Saturday long runs lately! I said I’d never run a half, I did. I said I’d definitely never run a full, I’m working on it. But I can say 100% I will never run an ultra! Hats off to everyone that has or wants to!
[email protected]
3 miles tempo run and lifting legs, after the run.
I need to read mile markers. Why people run fascinates me.
I agree Brooke has some very young ladylike hair. My kids were never blessed with it that young. What a cutie!
Livi
Woah 100 miles? Thats more than I run in a month haha!
Anyone else who reads Janae’s blog, or is a good runner, I need some advice on training and amenorrhea :(
Please message me at http://hungryteenrunner.blogspot.com
Livi
Ultra runners are so AWESOME. I can’t imagine. So intense. So cool!
Megan @ The Skinny-Life
St. Patty’s Day race today after morning spin class! I have not done an ultra, but it’s on my bucket list.
Marissa @ Run Riss Run
I really like Kara Goucher’s book. No ultras for me. I’m running in a 5K this morning. I’m more of a distance runner so this should be interesting. I’m just super excited I got my arm cast off, so I’m running my first race without it!!
Christina (Sisters Running the Kitchen)
I have never read a running book before with the exception of like training books. i really should get on that list haha
im running the NYC Half this weekend!
absolutely no desire for an ultra
Natalie @ Twenty-Something Talk
That is such a phenomenal book! I live in Fort Worth and UnionGospel Mission does such wonderful things for the homeless community!
Brooke
Just bought the book :) Can’t wait to read it!
[email protected] 'n' Snuggles
I’m going to have to check this list out! Except that my reading list is quite large right now (Game of Thrones, Divergent, etc.) My long run is supposed to be 9 miles. I’ll be happy if I get 7 of them in.
Linda @running4two
Just ran 19! Felt so good, when it was over! Lol.
Kathleen
Ooh I loooove “Born to Run.” I’ll have to check out some of those other books! I’ve done one 50k trail race, and it was honestly a way more enjoyable experience than you would think. Aid stations full of gummy bears, beer, pretzels, chips, and mountain dew every 3 miles. Also, trail races are often a lot cheaper than road races since they don’t have to shut down roads and stuff. I think the biggest thing is that everyone at ultra races are so nice and friendly. I’d totally do another one!
Sierra
I read that book in August. Fantastic, but beware of tears. The kindness of people is incredible!
Heather @ girlgoesrunning
I am reading Born to Run right now!!! Lame sauce runs suck. I have one at least once every two weeks. :(
I follow RunFar on IG—She is going to rock her Ultra!!!!
I’m doing my first 50k in October. That sounds so small when compared to a 100 miler!!!! :0
Runner Girl Eats
Born to Run is my favorite running book by far. Such a great read! I have no desire to do an ultra. My body shuts down just thinking about it.
Erica
Totally want to do an ultra!!!!
Mile Markers for sure.
Run was a lovely hour outside. Yeah for spring!
Have a great day!!
Leigha @ Minougirl
I can’t imagine doing an ultra! Some day I’d like to! I’ve never read a running book before. I’m thinking the next book I read will be one from that list. Today I ran 10 miles on ice for 90% of it. Then it started snowing at the last 3 miles. Ugh! I want spring! And I agree. Free food always tastes the best. Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!
The Running Schlub
That pizza looked amazing, I would of stuffed myself too LOL.
Books – no books yet, what do you recommend?
Run Today – No run today, this is a rest day for me, but I logged 18 miles this week, huge for me.
Ultra – The ultra marathon intrigues me, I know I want to do it someday but I need to knock out a half and full marathon first.
http://runningschlub.blogspot.com/
Heather @IRun4Cookies
Pizza and cookies? My favorites!
I haven’t read a lot of running books yet except for Hal Higdon’s Marathon and Born to Run. I did just request a bunch of these from the library though.
Run today – No run, race tomorrow!
Ultra- I would love to run an Ultra someday. I ran a trail half marathon and it is my most favorite/toughest race to date.
Kristina @ Blog About Running
Favorite running book is most definitely Eat and Run by Scott Jurek. I must have read it 10 times by now! It documents his journey as an ultrarunning champion — each of his big races along with his training/cross training/and diet (he’s a vegan).
Hope your long run this morning went spectacular!!
Elizabeth
I love “Same Kind of Different As Me”…..it was the freshman common reading book at the college I went to so every freshman had to read it and take a seminar class over it…..I think you will love it! Also, Brooke’s hair is amazing!!!! My two year olds hair still barely touches her shoulders!
Maura
I am honestly the slowest runner in the world so an ultra would take an awfully long time. My run today was great because the weather is so beautiful and all the salt on the sidewalks is gone so I can bring my dog out now. She’s my favorite running partner for sure.
Steve
I have done a 100 miler. It’s an experience to say the least. I wish her well. I’ve done more ultras than marathons I think – 100 miles, 50 miles, 50k. They are a good challenge for the mind and the body.
Jessica
Brooke’s hair is so beautiful! I was bald until I was almost three years old, my poor mum would have to stick a little bow on my scalp :)
I’m excited for my long run this weekend too!
Melissa
Ultras are like running a marathon – in some ways. The “highs” are higher, and the “lows” are a lot lower. You learn so much about yourself. For 100 miles, you don’t worry about anything except for putting one foot in front of the other. Running from sun up to sundown and then through the night is a surreal experience. Explaining an ultra to someone who has never run one is like explaining what it is to have a baby to someone who has never had one….You can talk about it – but it is such a different thing to experience it. The pain…the pleasure…it really is amazing.
sara
Loved born to run!!! Currently reading “running with the buffaloes” i like it so far
Lora @ Crazy Running Girl
Duel in the Sun!! Most amazing book ever.
Sara
I ran a 10k in a NYC and placed for the first time. It was a small one, but I was pumped!
I really liked Born to Run, but cannot for the life of me imagine running barefoot.
The Hungry Runner Girl
That is so awesome!!!! Congrats!
Addie
Love Same Kind of Different As Me. I’m from
Fort Worth and know the Hall family :)
Kim
I’m doing a 50 in May and depending on how it goes I might sign up for a 100 in October.
I love Brooke’s hair like that – she does look older from the back.
Katie
Isn’t the book “Same Kind of Different as Me” so good and inspiring? We just read it in book club. We all loved it and were motivated to make a difference!
Neel
Once a Runner, Born to Run and Ultramarathon Man are my favorites. Yup I do plan to run a 100 mile race soon.
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust
Pizza is OK to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in my book. :) SO good! Thank you for sharing the link to some great running reads – I am always looking for new books. One of my favorites is Running Within because it really emphases the mind-body connection when running.
Kris
I came across your blog while I was googling running blogs. You have a great blog and an adorable little girl! I’ve done an ultra – a 50km this past February – it was one of the coolest things I’ve done even though while running it, I didn’t think so:).
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun
I love Born to Run but I haven’t read mile markers – may have to look into that next!
Samantha @ The Faithful Runner
Great book list. I can’t wait to read through some of them! :)
[email protected]
I actually had a really great 7 mile run yesterday, which kind of works with your theory cause my previous log run hadn’t been quite so great. I don’t think I’d do an ultra, I definitely would love to try a marathon but any endurance event longer than that is just not for me.
Melissa Prange
I had a lamesauce half marathon yesterday = IT band issues!!! So now I’m on the couch with some ice. Boo.
I just added Mile Markers to my Kindle :)
I would love to do an ultra someday! But first I have to get through 26.2- goal for 2015 :)
Megan @ sixfootfit
My run this weekend was my first race of the season! The Irish Jig St. Patty’s Day 5k in freezing cold temps..but it definitely got me motivated and excited for races to come (and warmer temps)!
Shelly
Sprint Tri yesterday in which I PR’d the 5k run, very exciting!!
I’ve done 2 50ks and doing my first 50 miler in May, soooo nervous and excited at the same time!!
The Hungry Runner Girl
Way to go girl!!! That is so awesome!
Kay
I love Brooke’s hair, too cute! And a pizza party is always a great idea :o)
Michelle
my favorite running book is Run! by Dean Karnazes, just finished Pre: The Story of America’s Greatest Running Legend and started Born To Run today
Melanie
I don’t know if my body could physically handle an Ultra. It just would break down. I love distance running but it’s sad my body just can’t that much, you have to know your limits I guess.
My half marathon this weekend started out great, my first few miles were around 8 pace, the second was 7:57. And then I just hit a wall. And around mile 9, my left knee had never bothered me but of course it had this intense pain that was slowing me down. Oh well, on to plan my next race! Thank you for the continual running inspiration!
Kari @ Running Ricig
I never realized that we’ve never really seen Brooke with her hair down. She does look so old!
I ran 4.5 miles on Saturday with Bungee and that was it for my running. I did go hiking with Bungee and a friend and her dog later that day, though, so I wasn’t too lazy.
Ashley
Born to run has always been my favorite! I read it during an injury and it totally inspired me to come back stronger than ever
Andrea
I read Same Kind Of Different As Me a couple years ago and it was amazing! Good book choice!
Christina
That books is on my (100’s deep) to read list. I cannot wait to hear what you think of it.
Ben @morerunlesseat
My favourite running book has to be “running with the kenyans”. I wish I had half the adventure in me as this book does…
I would love to do an ultra but wow – thats tough! Dunno if I could…yet :D
Ashley @ Brocblog
Brooke’s hair is so long and OMG those trader joes chocolate covered pretzels. I cant buy them because once the bag is open they suddenly become all gone.
Ange @ Cowgirl Runs
Same Kind Of Different As Me is such a good book!! I loved it.
I just had 3 days of lamesauce runs, thankfully today was better!!
