I lied about the first 10 minutes of my run being the hardest part.

The whole 40 minutes was the hardest part.

I made it out for my run yesterday afternoon.

Oh, ya know… just THIRTY MPH WINDS.

My running preference weather equation=

Sunshine > rain > snow > hail > ice > monsoon > lightening > earthquake (not weather but still) > wind.

I am not a fan of running in the wind but I will stop complaining right now and leave it at just repeating myself one more time… I don’t like the wind.

You can see by the flags that it was just a tad bit windy.

And then I came home and hung out on my mom’s floor talking with her until Brooke woke up.  I can’t shake the side head tilt for some reason.  Also, I promise I am wearing shorts.

IMG 9218

I have been trying out the Ravenna 5s for the last little while and they are a great pair of shoes.  I love the cushioning and the amount of support was great and I will use them for easy runs but…  I think I just really love my PureFlows so it is always hard for me to stray from them.  If you are a mild-pronator and you are looking for a stability shoe that still feels pretty light (8.5 oz) then you should check them out!

Brooke just figured out how to take selfies and so I now have approximately 340 of them on my phone.  They make me really happy.

IMG 0232

Date night with the Jess.  I just love her and we have so much in common…. i.e. she used to be a high school health teacher too.   Maybe we should co-teach health together in the future.  PS we are doing a trail half-marathon together in April!

IMG 0234

She introduced me to this incredible salad.  Salmon, avocado, strawberries, cucumbers, sprouts, mandarin oranges and incredible dressing.  I will be back.

IMG 9231

9 more days until I leave for THAILAND!

IMG 9232

Since it has been weeks and weeks since the last time I went for froyo I really had to make up for it last night.

I really like chocolate.

IMG 9233

And it was snowing a little bit when I went to sleep last night…  back to avoiding ice on my morning runs.

Any teachers reading?  What grades? Subjects?

Least favorite running weather condition?

Salmon… yay or nay?

Snooze button—>  do you use it or do you get up after your alarm goes off for the first time?

-I love the snooze button.  I usually push it 3 times unless I am meeting people to run… that gets me up quick!

Least favorite running weather is most definitely when it’s hot and sunny at the same time. If I go out for a run too late in the morning or too early in the afternoon during the summer my energy gets zapped immediately but the relentless sun! I love running in the 60s at night time :)

I loooove the snooze button. I push it so many times!

Reply

I find it hilarious and fun that you were out in massive wind- I JUST wrote a post about how winds can affect performance! (my race was in crazy crazy wind!)-

My least favorite condition is cold, drowning rain.

Salmon- YAY!

Reply

I’m with you….the wind just sucks!! No snooze here… Just get up and get you day going! ;) I don’t teach now, but I’ve taught 1st and 2nd grade.

Reply

I never use the snooze button because then I can barely get out of bed.

My least favorite running condition is rain in the winter. I really don’t enjoy coming home and feeling like I have hypothermia.

Reply

Can’t wait for your Thailand trip! Do you know where you’ll be going when you’re there, or are you playing it by ear? It’s my favourite place in the world!
Least favourite weather condition to run in would have to be a wind snow mix when the snowflakes feel like pellets or shards of ice from the wind!

I use my husband as an alarm clock – I just tell him to wake me up at so and so time and he does. But his alarm goes off at 4:30am and I hate when he hits the snooze because then it keep waking me up!

I love running in the fall – does it get anymore perfect than that?!

Reply

Least favorite running weather condition would be ice. Though hail is not fun either. We got caught in hail on a hike last fall.

Salmon is a nay for me, as is all fish and meat.

I am not a fan of the snooze button. I get up as soon as my alarm goes off. I do require two alarms though just for my own comfort. I’m always afraid one won’t work. I set one on my phone and one on my tablet.

Reply

I HATE ice! Running on ice is just scary!! You are very right though, wind makes the run feel so much harder!! :) I set my alarm clock early so that I can hit snooze three times – I don’t know why I just do! Hehe

Yay to salmon!!

I might be sign in up soon for a trail run! It’ll be my first but im excited!!

I detest running in high humidity when it’s already ridiculously hot. Of course I live in Florida so go figure. I 2 time my snooze button. I must get up on the second time, it’s my OCD and something to do with pairs.

Reply

I’m a sub right now but hoping for a teaching job in elementary soon! Ugh, tired of subbing, haha. I hate wind. I actually am not a fan of any precipitation either, but wind sucks. I have avoided many runs and taken them to the treadmill just for the wind. And for whatever reason, whenever we get nice days lately it’s been windy! Nay salmon and nay snooze button. Well, I never used it before but lately I have been a little more because it’s my husbands favorite thing, I need to get away from it again!

Agreed wind is terrible! Especially if you’re pushing a stroller! I am a huge salmon lover… I wish it wasn’t so expensive though. We have it on special occasions! I can’t wait to see all of your pictures from Thailand!!

I wish I loved running. I have tried and failed before.

The snooze button and I are quite good friends. :)

Love the blog despite not loving running!

Least favorite running weather condition would have to be extreme heat + humidity. But that’s because I live in Houston, TX.

I love salmon, but not as much as I love the snooze button!

Reply

I push the snooze button about 5-6 times every morning :) It is very hard for me to wake up!

Reply

I HATE the wind too!!! I went running on Sunday with the BOB and it was so windy and I turned a corner and the wind was blowing right at me and I felt like I was running in place. It is extra hard to run into the wind while pushing 45 pounds!

I am so excited about your trip to Thailand. My friend is there right now on her honeymoon and the pictures she’s send are beautiful – sooooooooooooo beautiful. She’s had an amazing time relaxing, hiking, kayaking, and doing all kinds of fun stuff. You will have such an amazing time!

I don’t usually press the snooze but I do go back to sleep for ten minutes or so and then just wake up again. Except today, today I went back to sleep and work up 45 minutes later. Whoops! I got a bit of a late start!

Reply

Last week we had some awful weather–heavy snow all morning, then heavy rain all afternoon. By the time I got home to go running there was several inches of slush on the roads, and it was POURING! I decided that I could handle running in either heavy rain or lots of slush, but BOTH of them together was not an acceptable combo!

Reply

OMG I hate the wind! Think about it all of the time. I hate running and simply living through wind. I will take anything other weather condition first…As for a snooze button, is it weird that I have never in my life used an alarm? I can’t imagine that it is a fun way to wake up.

Reply

Least fav running conditions: humidity. Gross. Salmon: absolutely yay! Snooze: I hit it at least once, usually twice every morning.

Reply

Oh I’m with you, I hate wind as well. Brooke Selfie = Awesome.

Least Fav Running Cond – Definately wind, I can deal with all the others
Salmon – Totally for it, wish I had it more.
Snooze – Use it every day, something about that extra ten min that makes me so much more prepared for the day lol

Good luck Natalie! I have a friend in the same boat and it’s a big deal. I’m so excited for you! And Chemistry is pretty amazing.

I’m with you, wind is terrible!

I snoozed 3 times this morning and then reset my alarm for a late time!

Be careful running this morning!

Reply

Wind is my nemesis. I won’t even run in it. I can’t stand it.

I do not hit the snooze button. I usually wake up right before my alarm. I don’t necessarily GET up…but I wake up and then lie there and think about my day.

Brooke taking selfies is seriously the cutest thing ever.

Reply

Least favorite is definitely cold rain. I would rather it be 10 degrees and dry than 35 degrees and rainy. I love salmon. I make a salmon arugula salad with capers and balsamic that I love love love.

No snooze for me – it just makes me more tired. Anyway, after my alarm goes off my dog gets all excited and won’t let me go back to sleep :)

Reply

I hate running in the extreme cold or extreme heat. I don’t like the extremes.

salmon- yes please.

snooze- way too many times. it’s a habit I need to break for sure.

Reply

I home school if you count that as teaching :). I set 2 alarms…the first one I can turn off, the second one means you better get up :)
I want to like salmon more than I do…it’s ok.

Reply

Omg I love that Brooke is taking selfies!!! I went to Yogurtland for the first time in months last week and I am loving the flavor quest idea! I also tried the coconut mango tart and thought it was pretty good!

Reply

Least favorite running weather is probably ice on the ground and wind. As much as I complain about the humidity I think its way better than trying to run through wind that is pushing you the other way or constantly worrying about falling on ice. I never hit the snooze button! I find its harder to get up if I don’t get up right away.

Reply

I teach high school English.
I’ll be honest in that I’ve never experienced snow or hail. We’ve had a tad bit of ice, but I think I would have to say that heat is on the bottom of my list.
I rarely ever hit snooze, but I sure did this morning after hearing DH snore for half the night. Oy. I still made it to my morning workout though :)

Reply

I think teaching is something I could get on board with since I love kids but only if I could get my patience in check. My bff is a teacher and the fact that she’s on spring break right now makes me a bit jealous & off all summer-yes please!

Yay to Salmon! My favorite thing to put in a wrap. My husband will slow smoke it for me sometimes, that really is the best way!

it was SO windy here in Denver yesterday afternoon too!! My hat kept blowing off and I had to chase after it, oh and dirt/small rocks blowing into my eyes was lovely too. Seriously, wind is the worst to run in.

I love Salmon. If it’s on the menu I’ll usually order it (unless I’m craving a steak) because we don’t cook it at home.

I am in Colorado, too! I got a really early run in yesterday so avoided it but wow, today…NO way. Too windy. Guess I will rest instead!

Going to start teaching high school math next year ! Yay. Salmon is ny favorite food. It’s AMAZING boiled !

I love salmon! That salad looks so yummy.

I can’t handle running in anything less that sunny and 60 degrees. Good thing I live in New Orleans where we don’t have too many months below that! I am a wimp in the cold, but I am a pro in running in hot/humid/muggy weather!

Reply

Oh my god, so many snoozes. I could probably get an extra 1/2 hour of sleep if I could just wake up right away. Oh well, you snooze you lose right?

Wind while running!! Nothing in the whole world more annoying. Except frost heaves while driving.

Salmon- YAY!!!

Snooze… 3-4 times before I actually get out of bed.

Wind and icy condition will keep me indoors. In fact, today is an unplanned rest day because it is CRAZY WINDY here and I really don’t feel like cross training so I will rest. How excited are you to head to Thailand?!? Trip of a lifetime for sure.

Reply

Love love love salmon! Could eat it every day.

I actually hate the heat, if it’s too hot and sunny, I will stick to the treadmill. Probably why I try to get out there in the mornings before that happens!

I hit the snooze usually 2-3 times before I get up.

Reply

Love the festive socks! Wouldn’t want to get pinched on your run….
Yay on salmon. And yay for the new yogurtland flavor! How nice of them to make a flavor in honor of your trip ;)

Reply

I actually got caught up in a hail storm once and it was one of the worst running experiences of my life. I ended up calling a taxi because I was getting welts on my body from the larger pieces.

I absolutely love salmon (fresh, wild) and that salad you had pretty much sums up my idea of a perfect salad.

Reply

Least favorite running condition: heat. Ugh.

I normally never hit snooze.

I am a graduate school professor :-)

Can’t wait to hear about your trip to Thailand! Be safe!

Reply

I left you a comment yesterday telling you hard core you were for running in the wind. I ran on the treadmill cause I am not hard core. And then today when I woke up to go to the gym…snow. Freakin Utah. I am even MORE jealous of your Thailand trip now.

I got Yogurtland’s email yesterday about the new flavors and I thought that meant that Mango Coconut Tart would be gone. I almost called them to see if it was still there. It is my absolute favorite and I haven’t been in to get any. I am totally calling them today and if they have it I am making the drive…just for a fro yo flavor….does that make me super lame? I think I will use the word dedicated. It makes me dedicated.

Salmon is my favorite. I always get it for my birthday dinner :)

I think the snooze button is silly. I set my alarm for the last possible second so I HAVE to get up when it goes off. Why fall asleep to wake up again every five minutes? This is the question I ask myself when Ross hits his 54 times and I have to listen to it. So. Annoying!!

Reply

I hit snooze almost every day! I dont know why, it’s kindove silly because instead of snoozing I could just let myself sleep in to the time I normally get up when I snooze, but oh well!

We’ve had the craziest wind around here lately, it’s been miserable! If the wind is too too bad, I’ll skip the outdoors and hop on the treadmill without any question.

I used to LOVE salmon, but then I started cooking it like 4-5x a week and I ruined it for myself, I can’t hardly stand it anymore.

Reply

Wind. I HATE WIND. I don’t like the word hate..and thats how strongly i feel about WIND.. HATE IT. Sometimes i feel like someone is physically pushing me back because of the strength of the wind and it makes me angry!!!

Lately the snooze button is my bff-minimum 4 phone alarms are set, ugh…. its so hard to get up when its dark outside!

Salmon-YAY but it has to be fresh and not previously frozen bc then the smell takes a little while to go away and that is YUCKY!

Reply

Thailand?! Amazing!

My least favorite weather condition is anything that’s not partly sunny, in the 70’s with a light breeze. Apparently I’m picky…also, not a runner :)

I like salmon, but Mahi Mahi is good too!

And finally, the snooze button is my friend most days, but I try not to hit it if I can. But honestly, we all know sleep is pretty fantastic. after your alarm goes off for the first time?

Reply

I didn’t even know I pushed the snooze button this am and missed my run time altogether. Boo.

I hate running in wind. Hate.

Reply

Running in the wind is my least favorite too. Can’t stand it!!

Reply

I just bought those exact shoes on Friday! I was skeptical because they are so light, but I really like them.
I also HATE the wind, I often refer to it as my mortal enemy.

Reply

Gah… wind is the bane of my existence, and not only for running but for being outside in general. Not only do I always manage to get hair in my mouth (even when it’s tied back), but it’s just unpleasant to be in in general. As for snoozing… is it weird that I can’t even remember the last time I’ve had to use an alarm clock? My body just likes waking up around 5, which is both a blessing an a curse — I want to sleep in!

Reply

Least favorite is Wind. It really makes me angry while i’m running. And let’s be clear, breezy and windy are two totally different things!

Reply

I literally just wrote not one, not two but THREE posts in the last week about how wind is my least favorite running condition. I’m with you girl!

Salmon is my favorite fish. I love it grilled, poached, broiled, blackened, sesame crusted, potato crusted…..oh i can go on and on….even just dipped in dijon mustard.

I am a snoozer! Embarrased to say my hand will reach over and hit the snooze at 7 minutes 59 seconds before it goes off again at 8 minute intervals. I don’t even open my eyes. I will do this for close to an hour. It’s horrible and I would rather just be able to pop up out of bed.

Reply

I don’t like the wind either. It was really windy here on Sunday when I tried to run. I made it .65 miles outside and decided the treadmill was a better option than being blown away. I use the snooze button too much! I’d feel so much better if I just got up when my alarm went off but I just can’t stop snoozing!

Reply

I hate running in thunderstorms! I’m afraid of lightning so it doesn’t go well. Does make me run super fast though!

I teach grade 10 Careers/Civics – mandatory class here in Ontario :-)

I used to never hit the snooze button until I had Max. Now I hit the snooze all the time!

Reply

If I use the snooze button I NEVER get up so I usually have to drag myself out of bed pretty quickly.

We are actually having a pretty nice day here today and I look forward to going out to run here shortly. The wind is BRUTAL sometimes – I’d rather run on a treadmill then run against the win the whole time. It infuriates me! Lol

It’s funny because I was literally going to send you an email today and ask what running shoes you were running in. (I knew Brooks…I’m looking to go to Brooks). It’s like you read my mind. Anyways-

Snooze button—> Yay! Snoozing is so nice. Ease into waking up. My fiance hates it though…so I am adjusting to getting right up.

Former high school biology and chemistry teacher.

Salmon is only ok if one of my Alaska fishermen family caught it. No farmed or Atlantic salmon for me!

I find it extraordinarily easy to run in earthquakes! Maybe not far, but I can sure go fast!! Wind gusts that randomly blow you out into the street or knock you over are not much fun. But moderate wind is ok. It makes me want to push back against it in a ‘you’re not the boss of me’ kind of way.

Reply

Wind is just a part of where I live so it really doesn’t bother me. Avg. winds are usually around 20 mph, hence about 100 windmills for renewable energy that surround me. I’ve gotten used to it. However, running on ice I will not do. -10 degrees and 5/6 inches of snow is even fine but NO ice!
I love salmon but for some reason never really prepare it much at home. I’m guessing it’s due to the fishy smell.
Your froyo pic is torturing me. One of the things I’ve given up for Lent is sweets and let me tell you, that would be like you giving up sweets!!! Not. an.easy. task. So far so good!!! Hurry up Easter!!

Reply

I hate running in the bitter cold. Since I live in Dallas, that’s pretty much anything under 40 degrees. Yeah, I know, I’m a wimp.

I really like salmon, but I can only eat so much. If I overdo it, I have to take a break for awhile before I eat it again.

I always snooze, but I never go back to sleep. I usually just lay in bed another 5-10 minutes until I absolutely have to get up. I’ve tweaked my morning routine so it takes as little time as possible.

Winds = about as productive for me as running into a wall. Yup.

I teach 4th grade reading and science – for now – going with my class to fifth grade next year! I love the snooze button. I always set my alarm 18 minutes early so I can push it twice. I don’t know how people get up the first time they hear their alarm, that’s blasphemy to me.

Haa, oh you are in trouble if Brooke knows how to use your camera on your phone. My niece would take my sisters phone and record herself for like 20 min intervals. Taking to herself, dancing, making funny faces. My sister wouldnt know what was on her phone, and we would always have the BEST laughs (crying, not able to breath laughing fits) while watching them. Hee, Makes me laugh just remembering!

Wind blows. The only people who like wind are sailors. Your order of preference = mine. And I’m a serious snooze-button pusher. It’s a real problem here.

Reply

Running in the wind is like running in slow motion. I just can’t seem to get anywhere! I definitely take it to the treadmill on windy days, so good for you, that you made it through the whole run!

Wind is the worst!! We had strong headwinds at Canyonlands Half Marathon last Saturday! It was brutal. I thought the port-a-potty was going to tip over with me in it at about mile 9! Thankfully it didn’t. It still turned out to be a good run because Moab is just a very cool place. :)

Reply

Cold temps (cold rain, snow, wind) I HATE. LOVE blazing hot days and beautiful spring and fall days.

I usually hit snooze once. I hate it when I realize I don’t even remember hitting it the first time ’cause it makes me feel like I missed out on that first snooze time! lol!

Sadly I don’t like anything that lived in water!!

Reply

I’m with you and can’t stand running in the wind!!! My husband & I are training for the Tough Mudder and we were supposed to run 5 on Sunday. I have realized when I workout late at night then I spring-up with my first alarm, and if I workout earlier the evening before, then I snooze.

Due to my work hours, I end up working-out inside, but otherwise I like temperatures in the 60’s during the summer for training at a local Forest Preserve.

Absolutely yes to salmon! But only the good stuff that doesn’t have color added – gross!

There is no way for me to wake up when my alarm goes off for the first time. No way at all. I snooze like there’s no tomorrow. But I do it “wrong” according to my boyfriend – I only have 3 minutes in between snoozes.

I teach high school band. I usually hit my snooze button, but last week my cat realized that if she knocks my phone off the dresser after it goes off the first time, I have to get up out of bed to pick it up and turn it off, so she gets breakfast sooner. She did this a few mornings so I have to hide to phone under my pillow at night now if I really want to snooze.

1) I am a speech pathologist in an elementary school. Just finished up my spring break and I am already ready for summer!
2) least favorite weather to run in? THE HEAT! Very hard to avoid in Dallas!
3) I am a chronic snooze button pusher. It’s bad!

I have been reading your blog everday for the past 6 months or so. I LOVE it! I’ve been sick the past few days, so I’m just now catching up with things.
I teach Health/PE at a Middle School in NC! Love that age group!
Wind is by far the worst running condition ever! That and the beach…I ran a few miles on the sand (of course there was wind too) during my first marathon and it was probably the worst 2 miles of my life.
Salmon=my fav!
Typically no snooze button. I have to get up at 4:50 during the week to get my run in before my 2 year old gets up and to have time to get ready for work!
I love all your pics of Brooke! I have a little girl named Charley and she turned 2 on Christmas! Such a fun age! =)

I can sometimes do salmon but I really have to be in the mood. Sometimes it is a Nay for me.

I totally get the wind thing. It’s the worst. Walking to class when it’s super windy makes me so angry! There’s a section of my usual run that is always windier than anywhere else so some days I just have to short-cut to skip it.

I’m not a teacher, but I work in the schools as a counselor for at-risk children. One of many reasons I run.

I ran my last 20-miler with 30 mph headwinds, and being the optimist, thought “at least it’ll be at my back when I turn around.” Then the wind shifted course, so my whole run became resistance training at it’s best. I should get extra points for that. The worst part for me is taking dirt in the eyes, so maybe it’s time I break down and get a nice pair of running glasses.

Your food pictures always make me want to try new things. I credit your blog to my recent love of everything salads. :-)

I rarely hit the snooze button, but my husband sure has no problem hitting it repeatedly.
