I have never been more excited for a bday party and my quote of the week.

Rachelle has a birthday next Monday and Julia and I also turned 28 this year so Rachelle put together the coolest bday party ever.  28 miles of bday celebrating.  Runners really are crazy.

Screen Shot 2014 03 13 at 7 40 11 AM

I won’t be doing the full 28 because my body will crumble into 400 pieces if I attempted that but I am going to try and get in a good amount of miles with the group.  I can’t wait.  I also can’t wait to finish my long run with eating birthday cake at 9 in the morning.

The above picture was from a 1/2 marathon that we did in St. George back in 2011.

Friends that run together stay together.

——————————–

Pump and 1 mile on the treadmill before class this morning (saving my legs for above mentioned awesomeness).

Curly gave us an amazing tour of her school.

IMG 9043

And I got all fancy in the kitchen and made lunch for me and my sister.  Roasted broccoli and a wrap.

IMG 9042

And during nap time my sister and I decided to start the weekend early by being lazy and catching up on Modern Family episodes.  Rough life we had today.

IMG 9047

You know you look forward to holidays because of the candy too.  Don’t deny it.

IMG 9044

Curly and I got busy in the kitchen with the above candy.

My cookie recipe (not sure where it came from but my family and I have been using it for decades):

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

3/4 cup white sugar

1 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

3 cups flour

3/4 tsp salt

3/4 tsp baking soda

Coconut M&Ms and semi-sweet chocolate chips (the more of both of these items the better)

Cream together butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla.  In a separate bowl sift together flour, salt and baking soda.  Add to creamed mixture and beat well.  Stir in chocolate chips (and candy).  Drop onto greased cookie sheet by heaping tablespoons.  Bake at 350 degrees F. for 8-10 minutes until lightly browned.  Makes 3 dozen.

The quote I am loving right now:

The past is to be learned from but not lived in.”  Jeffrey R Holland (I adore his quotes)

Moving forward and focusing on the future is something I am really working on.  Learning from what I went through but not dwelling on the situation makes me so much happier.  I love my new normal life so why would I waste time ‘living’ in the past?!?  Just something to think about.

————————–

What year did you run your very first race?

-2006 (my first half marathon) and then I didn’t do another race until 2010 and after that I was hooked.

Tell me a quote that you are loving lately (I am obsessed with quotes and I want to know what you are loving right now too)!

Love your quote! I just watched the Dean Karnazes documentary so I am loving the quote “Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.”

The Cadbury eggs (and the Christmas version) are so good. I could eat the whole bag and probably have! I also love the Easter colored peanut m&ms. The pastel colors make them taste even better!

I ran my first and only 5K when I was 11 (1983). I finished in 30 minutes and was so proud of myself then ate cold/leftover pizza in the car while my mom ran errands.
One of my favorite quotes: whether you think you can or you think you can’t you are right! Favorite holiday candy would be jelly beans for Easter. But I LOVE all candy so really hard to pick a fave. Last errand was grocery shopping on Saturday.

THE RUN WILL BE AMAZING!!
Take us along for the journey :)

A quote I saw today that I really like…

I love this quote from Ellen Goodman, a former newspaper columnist at the Seattle Times:

“There’s a trick to the Graceful Exit. It begins with the vision to recognize when a job, a life stage, a relationship is over — and to let go. It means leaving what’s over without denying its validity or its past importance in our lives.

“It involves a sense of future, a belief that every exit line is an entry, that we are moving on rather than out.”

So I’m sitting here eating Peanut Butter M&M eggs as I’m reading your post and get to your picture of the coconut eggs and cookies! They look amazing! I LOVE Easter candy!! It is my favorite holiday candy! It’s hard to pick a favorite… I love the eggs, jelly beans, big chocolate bunnies :) The list goes on and on!

I ran my first race ever in 2011, which was a 5K. First half in 2012, and signed up for my first marathon in 2013 but hurt myself and didn’t quite get there. So 2014 is my year! My marathon is May 3 and my 25th birthday is May 28. I would like to do 25 birthday miles, but I might just have to say I did them a few weeks early ;)

We just had ward conference this week and our stake president was talking about not have a “grass is greener” mentality. He said “the grass is green right where you are!” I love that! We have such a tendency to look to the past or the future and not enjoy right where we are :)

Reply

My first 5K was Feb 2013 – I can’t believe it was only a year ago, it feels like I’ve been running forever! I can’t wait to have my first full marathon in the bag after this year :)

I love the idea of running 28 for 28 years! I’ll be 28 this year too and I don’t think I’ll be able to do 28 on my bday since I will be in marathon training mode, I may have to get a birthday relay together! haha

My first race was probably Field Day in elementary school…if we’re counting that. Otherwise, there was the “Fastest Kid in Town” race at a local 5k, then the 200/400 in middle school track meets. Favorite quote:

My first race was actually a marathon in 2004. Someone told me I could never run a marathon so I signed up the very next day and then I was hooked!

Favorite quote (well, scripture): Be Still.
I need this in my life so many times it’s not even funny.

First race was in 2012 and I was 4 months pregnant. I LOVED it!

I’m not sure this quote is appropriate for your situation but I heard it lately from someone who lost someone dear to them. ‘Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened’. Dr Seuss. As I said, probably not useful for you right now.

My last errand was going to my little boy’s new school (he starts in September) and officially registering him for transitional kindergarten.Kind of freaked out – he was a baby last time I looked.

Those cookies look amazing! I ran my very first race in 8th Grade and it was a sprint race and I came in 2nd to last, not fun.
A quote I’m loving lately is “Your beliefs don’t make you a better person, your behavior does.” Also, “As I look back on my life, I realize that every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being directed to something better.”
I don’t think I have a favorite holiday candy, it’s all good! The last errand I did was grocery shopping.

Reply

My first ever race was Wasatch Back Ragnar in 2010 – I had never even ran until fall of 2009 (I was 29!). I got suckered into running by some girls in my neighborhood and have been hooked ever since. I ran my first 5k, 10k and half marathon that same year. Since then I have run 10 relays, 9 half marathons, 1 full marathon and a handfull of 5 & 10k – I hate those!
Funny part is I started running with the goal to run a 5k with my son the following July – I never had any intention of running races on a regular basis.

My first race was a 5k in 1998. I didn’t race again till my first half in 2009!! I was definitely hooked after the half.

Love the Easter Reese’s peanut butter eggs, yum!

Just went to costco earlier today….got the usual haul plus a rotisserie chicken for dinner since I have a meeting to go to tonight and won’t have time to cook. Love their chicken!

Those cookies look AMAZING!!!!!!! Gah! Now I have a serious cookie craving!

I would love to run my age on my birthday at some point. I’ve thought about it the past few years, but the timing didn’t work out with race training or injuries. Unfortunately, I am not one of those runners that can run as much as I want whenever I want without getting injured. :(

Reply

Saw this quote on Facebook today: “I am in charge of how I feel, and today I am choosing happiness”. :)

I hope you bring me one of those cookies tomorrow. Just sayin ;) I have made chocolate cookies and put the Cadbury eggs in them. They are Anna’s favorite and are so delicious right out of the oven cause the shell of the eggs crack and the chocolate is all melty inside.

Have so much fun on your run Saturday. Maybe you should ride on your bike the rest of the miles so you won’t miss out on any good conversation that I am sure will happen with those 2 ;)

I think Reese’s eggs might be my favorite. Something about the shape, I don’t know, but they are better than any other holiday shaped Reese’s there are. Followed dangerously close by cadbury eggs…then jelly beans…Starburst jelly beans are the only way to go. Oh my. Easter candy seriously is the best of all the seasons.

I ran my first ‘race’ in 2001. It was 5k for the cure and my whole family did it. Only I didn’t train, didn’t care and just walked the whole thing. I pretty much hated running at the time. lol. I started running that year and did the hilliest 5k and thought I was going to die in 2002 and then started 10ks and halfs in 2003.

2007! Hooked since then.
Favorite quote comes from a 15 year old girl in our community while sitting on the bench of her basketball team during a game ( she couldn’t play anymore because she had final stages of terminal bone cancer and still showed up and sat with her team on the bench until she passed away this November) as she was listening to the others on the team complaining about every silly little thing she turned to the coach ( also our running team captain) and said

“you know coach, some kids just have to learn to suck it up”

its turning into our team motto.

I love the starburst jelly beans. And, of course, those mini twix, cookies n’cream bars, and basically anything chocolate are winners.

Love running bdays…that is so cool. I started doing a New Year’s Day run for every year (so 14 this year) but I never thought of doing a bday run…probably bc I cannot run 28 miles lol…

First race was in 2010. A 5k Halloween themed race. I was hooked after that and I run that 5k every year with family and friends now.

Reply

I just ate WAY too many of those chocolate speckled-covering eggs at a baby shower, today. Zero guilt, because I went for a didn’t-want-to-run-but-did-it-anyway run afterward. I’ll probably give into one of those Cadbury caramel eggs sometime in the next month or so, too…

My first race was last year, the Beat the Bridge 8k in Seattle. It was a blast, and I’m totally hooked. :) I have three others of varying lengths coming up this Spring/Summer season.

I ran my very first race back in 1997, when I was a freshman in high school and joined the cross-country team. And if I knew then what I know now, I would have a) designed more breathable shirts because they were non existent back then ad it would have made me a millionaire at age 14, and b) I would have pushed myself a lot harder. I was pretty lazy back then!

I ran my very first race in March 2008. My daughter was 20 months old, I was 33 and I needed a kick to get serious about getting back in shape. It was a 5k fundraiser and different family members had pledged money for me to finish. It’s funny looking back on that 5k- it seemed so long and now that’s my go-to distance that I can run without training.
