The things we do to run.

My sister and I made a very ambitious goal to visit, taste and review each of the Top 10 Places to Get Insanely Delicious Donuts in the Beehive State.

We hit up the Country Bakery of Lehi first.  PS if anyone that lives in St. George is coming up North in the near future I will pay you to bring me and my sis an apple fritter from Fractured Prune (it’s on the list).  I mean, I will make the 3.5 hour drive to come try them but if you are already coming up then…

IMG 8434

Yes, Brooke is pulling Curly’s hair.

The apple fritter was great.  I loved that it included a ton of apples in it and it was perfectly fried.  I did not like that each one was $2.19… my beloved Yum Yum AF’s are only $1.  Maybe the high price is a good thing because it prevented me from buying a dozen.

IMG 8440

Just in case you would like a close-up on the little man in my sister’s car..

IMG 8429

Don’t be so jealous of my outfit.  I went and got the good old legs scraped and a deep tissue massage.  The things we do to run.  It hurt REAL^3 bad but I am very hopeful that it will heal me.

IMG 8442

And then it was off to a incredible dinner with friends.  I don’t remember the names of any of the fancy food that we had except for the mashed potatoes so I will just show you the pictures.

The night ended with another episode of The Bachelor with my homies.  Only two more episodes until I am no longer complaining to you about how upset I am at myself for watching (and continuing to watch) that show.  It needs to end.

Enjoy your WEDNESDAY!

Best part about Weds is I’m taking my pups for an afternoon sprint session on a dirt track…they’ve never done it before!! Random thing in my car…surf wax. It’s been 6 years since I gave up surfing!

Reply

With all these apple fritter pictures lately, you are making me want to try my first one! I didn’t realize they actually had slices of apple in them. Do they taste like apple pie?

Something crazy I do for running… getting up at 2am to run 13.1 miles at Disney. Having to catch the buses to the starting line at 3am is HARD but worth it :)

Reply

According to some others I will do some crazy things to run…but to me it is just normal :). I will get up very early, I will squeeze in a run whenever I can on a busy day and I will run in some pretty miserable conditions (which has been happening lately due to this crazy weather). There are so many random things in my car…kids do that!

Reply

Crazy for running? early mornings, late nights, deep tissue, DRY NEEDLING, lacrosse balls, tennis balls, foam rollers, etc (all over my office/house)…

AQUA JOGGING to keep up fitness while injured. Dude. Kids stare, adults ask “what are you doing!?!” – there is nothing like being tethered to the deep end with your cellphone in a plastic bag listening to your running mix or podcasts while doing sprint intervals in the water. you really have to mooooooove to get a workout and it looks ridiculous.

Random in my car? toothbrush and toothpaste. You never know.

It’s hard to find the best part of my Wednesday. It’s always the longest day of the week for me. Starts with getting my youngest to her early, before school honor choir practice. Back home to get ready myself, then work. And then tonight I have to quickly feed my girls, pick up my nephew, get them to church for confirmation class, pick them back up, drop him off and then we are finally home around 8:30. It’s basically a 14-hour day for me. I don’t like it so much.

I think the most random thing in my car at this moment is a purple floppy disk. I don’t know what’s on it or why it’s there, but I saw it peeking out from beneath a back seat not too long ago.

Reply

I am looking forward to cleaning when I get home from school today. I know that sounds crazy, but both Chris and I were out of town this past weekend and I cannot wait to organize. I have a weeks worth of clothes on my bathtub.

Reply

Wake up at 5am every day to run.. not as early as you.. ;0)

Best part of my Wednesday.. New Survivor tonight!!

Mojo Monkey’s in MN has the best donuts!!!

3 Blankets are in my car because it’s freezing in MN!!!

Reply

I’ve also set my alarm many times in the 4 o’clock hour. No fun… Until you’re all done and eat lunch at 9 am haha. Best part about Wednesday is checking out the new costco they opened right by my house!!!

Reply

Craziest things I do to run…ugh deep tissue massages are right up there. They are ao painful but worth it. I used to have to set my alarm early but right now I am lucky I don’t have too.

I love donuts. I think I’ll tell you every post. I would come to Utah just to go on donut adventures. (Whatever that means).

I really need to clean out my car so we we won’t talk about that one LOL…

Reply

The best donuts I’ve ever had were from little independent shops in California, they just don’t compare to Tim Hortons donuts. Love your boots!

Reply

Talk about amazing dinner, those pics looks delicious.

Crazy to run – I have done the 4am run to get some miles in, and now I started running on my lunch break to get miles in. What am i thinking??
BEST part about Wed – TBD, Wed are usually really long
Utah – Sorry dont live in Utah
Random in car – I have heart stickers in my car left over from Valentines day when I decorated my fiance’s car, just never cleaned them out lol

Yes those 4:xx am wake ups are rough! But worth it when they are over. Also ice baths, especially taking them after a run in the cold weather.

Reply

I live in Utah! The best donuts I’ve found are from Macey’s :) And their apple fritters are perfect!

Reply

People keep telling me that! I guess I have to go today then:) thanks!

Reply

That donut looks amazing. My husband and I have drived 60 miles to go taste great donuts and they were worth it.

Reply

Hmmm crazy things I do for running – sports massages, 4:45am alarm during the week, and spending way more money on my running shoes than my work shoes. Oh and I also make myself drink insane amounts of water during the day at work – pretty sure my coworkers think I have the smallest bladder ever.

Random thing in my car – a shredded pinecone on the backseat. I let my puppy carry it in last time we went to the park because he was being all cute with it…then he shredded it on the way home. And of course I’m too lazy to clean it up.

Reply

Probably the craziest thing I do for running is going out in ALL sorts of weather! I’m pretty sure everyone in my town knows me as “that crazy runner girl” cause they see me running in rain, snow, sleet, heat waves and polar vortexes! :)

Reply

Drooling over here! This make me want an Apple Fritter from Apple Hill (in California, which I believe in October you should come down just to try one. They are huge! And delicious!!)

Random thing in my car – Loads of gum wrapper! Because you never know when you’ll need a little something to get rid of the gum :) And I never seem to take them out. I wish I got paid per gum wrapper, I’d be rich.

Reply

Nothing random in my car really – except some sippy cups? I found a rotting banana peel last week – that wasn’t good.

Reply

Wow– I haven’t had an apple fritter in FOREVER!! Though AFs are not my vice– I love those over-processed Powedered Sugar Donettes!

Reply

Dinner looks fancy! Yum!

Reply

I have a great Wednesday routine – Run, work, either work drinks or gym/yoga, and then trivia with my friends! There’s a windchill alert in Chicago this morning so I ended up not doing my run – I didn’t walk to the gym or run outside in this cold.

Reply

Now you have me hungry for an apple fritter!

Reply

I love in provo and we’ve been to the provo bakery but I didn’t think it was amazing. I’m from southern California so I’m used to incredible doughnuts. We may have to tackle your list!

Reply

Something that is kind of crazy that you do in order to run?
Um, I’m currently run/walking with a cast up to my shoulder & a 4:15 alarm.
Best part about my one same is walking with my girlfriend tonight.
Hmm, I don’t really keep random things in my car.

Reply

Not quite sure what the best part of my Wednesday will be yet. I am heading to the gym here soon to cross train and then I work tonight. I guess just being here and enjoying the moments I blessed with :)

Reply

My cousin may be going to Utah for college! She finds out this week!

Reply

my car is actually pretty clean right now- but that’s mostly because I almost never drive it anywhere (perks of working at home!). my old car was FULL of junk. I had two old records in there for some unknown reason (like real records, the big huge black ones!)

Reply

Crazy thing I do to run…wake up before the kids to fit it in. Or I WON’T!
It’s a must for me.

I live in TX. I need to find the good donut places around here. The one located 1 minute from my house is less than stellar.

Reply

Tasty’s in Kaysville has amazing donuts. They call them spudnuts because they use potato flour. Maybe that sounds weird? But whatever they use is divine and I love them.

Reply

I’ve had my rollerblades and a pair of high-ankle socks (to wear with the rollerblades) in my car since the summer…just in case I even want to rollerblade. I even contemplated trying them out on all the ice to see if they would be like ice skates…

Reply

Putting on 3+ layers to run in Canadian winters has got to top my list of crazy! That dessert honestly looks like something out of heaven. Have a great Wednesday! :)

Reply

i haven’t seen tuesday night’s episode yet, but i hear it is epic! oh jp — you are sort of an idiot, but i still spend 2+ hours a week watching you…

Reply

Best part of my Wednesday: getting to avoid the -12 degree weather and not having to walk around campus until later in the afternoon. Random thing in my car: golf clubs in my trunk, because it is SO not golfing weather!

Reply

Best thing about today is that it is my little sister’s birthday…and she is turning 30! I can’t believe my baby sis is so old…man. And I don’t live in Utah but I definitely visit at least 2-3/year (gotta love Outdoor Retailer, right?!)

Reply

I’m in Utah…south Jordan :) feel free to bring Brooke over to play!
The best part of today is heading down to St. George to swim and play at the park in 70 degree weather!

Reply

I’m thinking about trying the donut challenge in Texas. What’s a seven hour drive for donuts, anyway?

Random thing in my car: a water noodle

Best part of today: Bible study!

Reply

hmmm…..I feel like i have so many random things in my “life bag” like peanut butter(you never know when you will get HANGRY) a recently retired pair of running shoes (again, YOU NEVER KNOW)!

Best of my day will be when i get home and go running! First run after my marathon on Sunday and i cannot waiiiit!

Glad you are scraping…hurt so good!!

ps i have never tried an apple fritter, but you make me want to!

Reply

Best thing about my Wednesday is it’s my rest day!!

Craziest thing I do for running is yes, lack of sleep. I think I set my alarm earlier on weekends than I do on weekdays, just to get my long runs in!

My husband is an apple fritter lover too. I will have to tell him about yum yum donuts, we’re in that area about once a month.

Nothing too crazy in my car, probably just random food here and there from messy kids!

Reply

This will make you really sad, but I don’t think they have apple fritters at Fractured Prune. All the donuts are the same base and them they dipp them in toppings. They might have an apple fritter topping, but not a true apple fritter.

Reply

I was just about to leave this Fractred Prune comment. They originated near me. I don’t love their donuts. They use a plain base anf then you can customize the dips/toppings… but I don’t think the donut base is very good :(

Reply

I live in St George! And apple fritters are the best ever! Unfortunately Fractured Prune doesn’t sell them :( They only do fresh plain cake donuts and you pick the crazy toppings and glazes. Also, they are expensive. Don’t get me wrong, what they make is delicious but it’s only one kind of donut. Sad day for me lol.

Reply

I’m excited for this Wednesday because I’m trying out a new crock pot recipe! BBQ chicken with pineapple and zucchini.

I always make sure I have a HUGE stash of paper napkins (I always steal a bunch whenever I go inside restaurants) and tampons in my car. You just never know! Lol

Reply

I’ve done the “scraping” before. Running clinics and Pilates for core. I must really love running. I am in Utah and I don’t have anything too odd in my car. Box of tissues, lip gloss, mints….
I do love donuts! Danbury cross is a winner!

Reply

I have a weird hammocky thing in my car for Bungee. That way she won’t fall off the seat and stays in the back when she goes for rides with me.

I go to the chiropractor pretty regularly so I can keep running. Plus, I really like the back cracking that comes with an adjustment.

Reply

I love Wednesdays because we have Bible study tonight, and I have a day off from training. Something crazy I do to run?

I moved to Mammoth to run full time. A bit crazy…and wonderful :)

Reply

I saw the Fractured Prune when we were down for She Runs! I kept thinking that I needed to tell you so that you can try it. It was a build your own donut store. Looks fun and delicious!

Reply

Can I admit that I’ve never had an apple fritter?! (I’m going to go hide now from being attacked) ;)

Reply

I think I single-handedly keep biofreeze in business because if I don’t use that stuff after ever run of 10 miles or more, I’m toast the next day. I also lift weights to help with my strength and I spend a crazy amount of time in my paddle boat to cross train…but that part is sort of fun.

I’m waiting for the best part of my day. While walking the dogs this morning we got attacked by a rogue dog and I got dragged down the street on my butt as my dogs chased it off, so I’m in some pain right now.

I’ve never been to Utah but if your pictures are any indication, it’s beautiful.

The random thing in my car is a backpack with an extra set of running clothes and shoes….because you just never know when a great running path is going to happen.

Reply

The best part of my Wednesday is that I get to work from home! It’s snowing outside, but I am warm and toasty on my couch wearing sweats and slippers.

Random thing in my car: Christmas lights. I got them right before Christmas but forgot to bring them inside. They will probably be there until next Christmas. That’s how I roll.

Reply

i live in utah! and i love communal, too! next time you go, you HAVE to try the chocolate bread pudding. you will die! also, daylight donut in pleasant grove is super yummy.

Reply

A Donut pillow! This is only my second time leaving a comment on your blog but I saw this and immediately thought of you! :)

Something crazy that I do in order to run is strapping a headlamp on my head and running around in the freezing cold. After I got done with work last night, I snapped a pic of myself with that silly headlamp on, but I had to do it in order to get my speed work in!

Reply

I love apple fritters. We have a local donut shop here in Alabama, Donut Joes, that makes the best apple fritters ever. I have to avoid driving by there because I can’t resist them!

Reply

Haha I love that you’re doing a doughnut tour!

Reply

Happy Wednesday!

Reply

Love that outfit :). Craziest thing I do to run, is leave my hubby and children on Saturday’s to get a long run in. While they are at home laying around in their jammies, this crazy lady leaves the comfort of her home and the warm snuggles of her family to run, if that’s not crazy I don’t know what is.
The best part of my Wednesday is that I am alive, It’s not a happy day for me. Have to go see my sports doctor for ART and get a massage because now my dull pain has turned into shooting pain.

Reply

shooting pain!? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I’m crying for you.

Reply

That is awesome that you’re doing a donut tour!!

Ooooh scraping sounds so dang painful!

Reply

I totally agree with you on The Bachelor. And I complain about it every week too ;-)

Something Crazy I Do To Run: Drink ridiculous amounts of coffee so that even when I haven’t slept enough, I can still run.

Best Part of Wednesday: Hot chocolate and coffee – it’s freezing out!

Reply

I used to take really nasty liquid mineral and vitamin supplements when I was training for my first marathon to get extra nutrients. I literally would almost throw up everyday from the taste of those two things. I’m glad I don’t do that anymore. I do the scraping too – hurts so good!

Reply

I live in Utah! Coming from a total donut snob, here are my favorites:

– Banbury Cross in SLC is hands down the best. YUM.
– Dick’s Market in Bountiful has amazing chocolate cake donuts. So, so good.
– Tasty’s in Kaysville has the best blueberry donuts ever!

Okay, now I’m craving donuts!!! Those places are kind of far from Provo, but Banbury is 100% worth the trip and the others are definitely worth trying if you are in that neck of the woods.

The best part of my Wednesday is probably that I will eat a donut later, haha :)

Reply

yum, i’m not even a donut person, but that apple fritter looks SO delicious!

ugh, the bachelor is killing me. i can’t believe i devoted 4 hours this week to watching that show. i’m not a big fan of the two remaining girls, so i can’t wait for this torture to be over with…haha :)

Reply

hmmm…. I run on a rickety falling apart treadmill in my basement while my kiddos are unsupervised upstairs. I figure that it’s easier to just deal with the disaster after I’m done than to skip a run.

And I live in MN where winter will never end. I just want it to be above zero again… :(

Reply

Random thing in my car: I’m not even sure. I have one of those reusable grocery bags in the trunk of my car full of stuff that was in my old car when I bought this one. I bought this car over a year ago and I have absolutely no idea what is in that bag! I also have a pair of pink glitter hello kitty shoes that Girlie outgrew quite some time ago but I just leave in my car.

Reply

I am going to Disneyland, we will be driving home through St George. I will be stopping there anyway for a pit stop. If you want me to I could pick up an apple fritter for you. We will be coming home on march 11th. My mom lives in the same neighborhood as you and your mom so it wouldnt be too hard to get it to you. ;)

Reply

Ahhhhhhh really?!? Yes please! I will pay you so much! You are the best! I can’t wait!!!!!

Reply

I am jealous of your outfit. Mostly that you could wear shorts outdoors. It was 1 degree when I walked to the gym this morning. I am SO over this.

Reply

P.S. I think you should try every apple fritter possible and then do a chart of your reviews with things such as price, location, amount of glaze, crispiness, apple content, etc., so that we may all refer to it when choosing where to get our apple fritters.

Reply

I love your shoes! Where are they from?

And I love your determination to try all the apple fritters :)

Reply

I think the running is crazy enough (even though I do it) also every time I read this blog Im in the mood for an apple fritter.

Reply

OOo that donut looks yummy. I have set my alarm pretty darn early & ran in the dark on not-so-safe-SF streets to get my running on. Wednesday rocks at this moment because I am already done with school and laying on my bed with a cute poodle. Have a great day!

Reply

Something that is kind of crazy that you do in order to run?
Making my poor dog do his business at 4am on a weekend so I can get to a race on time….He just looks at me like “it’s cold and dark and what part about saturday at 4am is normal here?” I always feel bad.

What is the BEST part about your Wednesday?
my boss refilled his candy jar on his desk. I scored 3 hershey’s miniatures for breakfast.

Random thing in my car….just one??? well let’s just say i have a collection of broken umbrellas. I need to give them a proper burial. They’ll never repair themselves.

Reply

I recently moved, so I’m trying to see my new city a bit more. Today I combined a run with site-seeing stop, all before noon. I feel so productive!

Reply

Things that I will do to run- foam roll, stretch, trigger points with softball, Epsom salt baths, icing… and all of these crazy things are time consuming, not even including the run itself! But, I love to run and will endure all the torture that comes with it!

Best thing about today is that I ran early this am and have an early work day.

I don’t live in Utah but it a place I definitely want to visit!

A random thing in my car is deodorant.

Reply

Was pouring out so no Wednesday run. Maybe treadmill? Eeep.

I have a glass serving plate that has been in the backseat of my car for weeks now. I kid you not. My car is a mess. lol.

And now you got me craving donuts!

Reply

Oh my gooses, Apple Fritter, I love you!

Is it crazy to run in (-)*F windchill at 5:00am? :\ Go away, Polar Vortex.

The best part about my Wednesday so far is the homemade Italian Wedding soup that I made last night and brought leftovers for lunch!

Random thing in my Jeep: My Uggs. They always stay in there. Poor Uggs.

Reply

In Colt’s Neck NJ, there is a farm/supermarket place called Delicious Orchards, and they have an outdoor shack that makes apple fritters to order. And they’re hot and amazing and this place also has the best apple cider ever of anywhere. But the best cider donuts are at Terhune Orchards in Princeton, NJ. Amazing.

So factor these into your fall schedule.

Reply

This season just gets worse with every episode. WHY CANT I STOP WATCHING?

Reply

Madbrook Donuts is literally a half mile from my house and I run by that delicious smell several times a week. DANGEROUS! They are good and their fritters are ginormous, but I am no donut connoisseur. If I run the Rex Lee at BYU on March 8 I can bring you some down…drive by donuting in Utah County! I know you don’t know me and may think that’s creepy, but I’m totally willing if you want to save a drive!

Reply

I love everything about you.

Reply

The best part of today? I slept in just a tiny bit and since my husband was working out of the house this morning, he was able to go for a run with me! AND it snowed the whole time!

Reply

I second the vote for Dick’s in Bountiful. We go there most weekends, their cake donuts are amazing and their chocolate filled are insanely rich.

Reply

Stop what you are doing, get in your car and go back to the Lehi Bakery and get a cinnamon roll! Not even kidding (my mother would cry herself to sleep if she heard me say this), those are the BEST cinnamon rolls I have ever eaten! When I worked at a tax firm in Provo, they would pay for me to bring in cinnamon rolls once a month from there (I lived in Lehi). And once you’ve done that….mail me one….or a dozen. :)

Reply

The best part of my Wednesday has been snuggling my sweet baby girl! I can’t get enough of her. I live in Provo, but the only place that I have tried donuts from is Krispy Kreme. I’m pretty lame :/

Reply

I wake up everyday at 4am to run or workout. Even if I try to sleep in, I’m still awake so why not go workout. Spending the rest of the day with my Mom is the best part of my Wednesday and wearing a cute new dress at work.

Reply

You really need to start a review log of your donut adventures. Include the type of donut, place, price, rating, etc.

Reply

Banbury Cross in SL (#1 on the list) is the absolute best! BUT you have to get there early because they sell out of lots of the yummy flavors fast.

Reply

I keep two tennis racquets in my trunk. My best friend and I randomly play tennis in the summer; we aren’t very good, but it’s so much fun!

Reply

Sacrificing sleep and shelling out the big bucks for deep tissue massages are things I do to run.

Reply

Wearing high heels to work during marathon training aka now and today – my shins hate me, when will I learn! Oh and I run in any weather, except ice :)
I live in Utah! But 2 more years until I can say I am a Californian! Just waiting for my daughter to graduate high school.
I stay away from apple fritters because if I had one, I couldn’t stop my self and I’d eat one every day, I am like that. BUT, they are my absolute favorite especially if they are still warm! maybe I will treat myself to one after my first race of the year in a couple of weeks!
Question for you: Do deep tissue massages help with shin splints? Mine come and go and its taking me forever to keep my level of speed consistent that I have worked up the past two months because of them.

Reply

Random thing in my car (well, the family car)? A charger I always forget about.

Reply

I did so many crazy things to be able to run again when I was injured with IT band issues a while back…don’t let anything get between runners and their running!

Craziest thing I have in my car currently is a a can opener :) and a mixing bowl! My friend borrowed it and gave it back to me and I haven’t taken them out yet, whoopsies!

Best thing about my Wednesday is that it is almost 5 PM and that means I am done with work for the day!! I also had a really good (quick but fast) run on the treadmill today whoop whoop!

Reply

I ice anywhere, with anything I can find!

Reply

Oooooh, that apple fritter looks delicious!

Best part of my Wednesday was my workout :)

Reply

best thing from wednesday– being picked up by my roommate, so I didn’t have to walk the 1 mile back to our apartment in the cold!!!

Reply

Oh! Lehi Bakey cream filled maple bars!! I love them so much!!! I’m constantly trying to find reasons to go to Lehi in the AM ( you have to get there early cause they sell out fast ) I live in Orem and go to a dentist in Lehi just so I can stop there.
