Running from 1/27-2/1 and other weekend pics.

213.4 miles in January.  The majority of those miles were done outside and with the girls.  This has been my first Utah winter where I do most of my running outside.  I am hooked on winter running (except for when I fall on the ice which happens way too often).

Last week we had a cutback week (with our speed and distance) and it was very much needed.

Monday–  11 miles @ 8:10

Tuesday–  Pump and 4 miles @ 8:34 pace

Wednesday– 8 miles @ ? pace  (we planned on doing a track workout but skipped it after the warm-up).

Thursday–  Pump and no running

Friday– 8 miles @ 8:20

Saturday– 12.3 miles @ 7:50

And some other pictures from this weekend:

After my run on Friday morning I went straight to pick up some donuts for my friend’s birthday.  Everyone should start their birthday off with donuts.  The only problem was that they were already sold out of apple fritters at 6:50 a.m.

IMG 7477

I guess maple bars will do.

IMG 7480

Sushi dinner on Friday night in Salt Lake City.  I could really and truly live off of this stuff.

IMG 7506

IMG 7505

Followed by a few games of bowling.  I broke 100 for the first time in forever.  I still use the 8 lb ball.

IMG 7507

I was also pretty proud when I got a bullseye (you can’t really see it very well) when we played darts.

IMG 7513

I will probably cry when this fur vest no longer fits Brooke anymore.  It just puts me in a good mood.

My running was okay, I lacked a little motivation with school stress so I just I’d whatever I felt like I needed each day, pace and distance-wise.

This weekend I went to a bar in the middle of the day post-exam, did a long run in the sunshine, and spent an entire night watching half a season of a new tv show I’m addicted to :)

Reply

You totally put the dart in there yourself!

Reply

You caught me;)

3 things I did this weekend –
1. met a blog friend for the first time!! It was so nice to grab lunch and get to talk in person!
2. Went for a run for the first time in months! I think I’m finally coming back from injury.
3. Got a Mardi Gras king cake in the mail from my friend all the way from New Orleans. Made me think of home even though I’m far away!

Reply

I went to Colorado—it was sooo cold!! I’m moving there in the summer. I’ve never lived anywhere with snow so I’m kind of nervous. I live in the bay area now and it’s so easy to run year round…I hope I can suck it up and run in the snow like you :)

Reply

You will totally be able to! Just get the right gear and you will grow to love it. It really is all about having the right cold weather running gear. Good luck with the future move!

Reply

Colorado’s amazing- I moved here 4 years ago after living in orange county CA for 9 years.. just get yourself some yaktrax for your shoes, and good warm running tights/tops/gloves and you’ll learn to LOVE running in the cold :)

Reply

I am in Colorado too. I don’t mind the cold — it’s icy roads that keep me inside but honestly there have only been about 15 days I have had to go inside all winter. Not too bad. If I was more comfortable running on the snow/ice that number would be way less! Mollie, where in Colorado do you live?

Reply

i’m pretty sure i could live off sushi, too :)

3 things:
1. just took my dogs on a walk around the neighborhood.
2. had a coffee date with my bff and then walked around whole foods.
3. spent lots of quality time with my mom. <3 overall, it was a great weekend!

Reply

Sounds like the perfect weekend April!

Reply

Wowowow so many miles! I did 77 miles and thought it was a good month :) Then again I did skip quite a few runs :/

Congrats on the bulls eye! I love playing darts!! :)

Reply

1. Took my car to the shop. Again. It’s still there and I hate the lack of freedom that not having a car does to you.
2. Went to the temple. Much needed.
3. Ate Cafe Rio. For free. My roommate had a gift card and paid for me. She’s the best.

4 Days til we get to hang out all weekend! Woohoo! :)

Reply

This weekend my husband & I:
— did two great workouts together
— cleaned the house from top to bottom
— and made a kick butt pot of chicken & veggie soup

A good weekend, in my books anyway :)

3 things this weekend: cleaning, studying, and getting ready for my little superbowl party! Yay! Congrats on your running mileage. I’m hoping to hit that in all of 2014 (I really wish I could run more, but get too injured too quickly :( BOO!). That fur vest is absolutely adorable!

Reply

Wow! Those are some miles you logged! Way to go. I ran my first trail race today…it was amazing.

Daylight donuts are the best. I won’t eat any other kind :-)

Reply

3 things this weekend:
Watched a charity hockey game
Went for an Oceanside long run (best!)
Yoga class!

Reply

Running this week was great! I hit 55 miles for the first time, and felt good. But now I am trying to fight off a cold that I feel coming on. I didn’t do anything too exciting this weeekend, but tonight we are making homemade pizza and watching the Superbowl.

Reply

The good news is im able to run again after my random shin pain. Random because I have no idea how it happened. Im excited I can run again and I immediately feel the benefits and it puts me in a good mood. I never would of said that 2 years ago in my pre-run days.
We r currently making food to have family over for the super bowl.
Yesterday I spent cleaning the house (especially organizing my boys room). Then getting stuff ready for church today. I had to teach a lesson last minute.
Overall a good weekend.
Happy Sunday Janae!

Reply

I am so happy that you are running again! Enjoy the super bowl!

Reply

I like sushi a lot too. Have you ever had eel sushi? I went bowling a few times and I slipped and fell half way down the lanes. I should do another story time post…that one was pretty good.

I ran a race half naked in runderwear. (I think that might count as three: half naked, run, runderwear…go with it LOL).

Reply

My running last week was sort of eh but picked up again this weekend which makes me happy! I got lucky and was able to run outdoors for the first time in 2 weeks.

Reply

Congrats on your bowling score! 100+ is always my goal.
My running week went ok considering my twins started school.
3 things I did on the weekend: went to the park, swam in the pool and cooked food for my kids’ lunch boxes.

Reply

My running went well this week! I’m just getting back into it and did 6 miles for the week. Nice and slow. :) Three things I did this weekend? Made flashcards for my physiology and early childhood classes, cleaned my apartment for the 30,000th time this week, and now I’m making Super Bowl food! No Super Bowl is complete without a 7 layer dip, am I right?

Reply

Wow, great January mileage! I was pumped with my 166 Jan. miles..lol. This week was also a scale back week for me as well.

That vest IS too cute!

Reply

166 IS AWESOME!!! Hope you are having a great day Heather!

Reply

Since the groundhog saw his shadow it sounds like you will be getting lots more Utah winter running in. And with that in mind, have you ever thought of Yaktrax Run. I love mine. No more sliding on the ice. I can run where ever and whenever I want :)

Reply

I really need to get those. You just inspired me to go get some tomorrow! Thanks Laura!

Reply

And bonus they are easy to put on, take off, and have a reflective strip….which is really nice on these dark winter mornings/nights.

Reply

I still use the 8 lb ball too, glad I’m not alone!

Reply

I would probably use a 6 lb one if I could find it.

Reply

1. Got a good 1 hour 40 minute spin ride in Saturday.
2. Had a relaxing evening with my husband.
3. Spent too much time on the bulk candy aisle ;)

Reply

My running was very blah this week…….just felt bored and unmotivated. These will happen!

Reply

I made a new long distance running buddy this weekend. We had a brunch after our long runs, complete with breakfast casserole and sangria. It was fantastic!

Reply

My week of running was pretty bad, I had to take a few days off due to my knee giving me some problems for the first time ever. Three things I did this weekend: watched two movies, did laundry, and tried to learn Icelandic phrases.

Reply

I am SOOO sorry about your knee. I hope it starts feeling much better soon!

Reply

I ran a 10k today, and improved my time. I did a few shorter runs through the well to get ready, but decided today if I’m going to keep at this distance, I’m going to need to run a bit farther each run. I want to see my total for January, I think I’m about 35 miles, which I’d phenomenal for me. I’m proud of my start to becoming more of a runner. I’ll keep following you for some inspiration too! I think I’m going to try done sort of interval workout this week with my husband. (he’s my “coach”) Overall, I’m having fun with this!

Reply

I had just gotten myself out of a running funk on Friday and we were hit with a snowstorm Saturday, which resulted in horrible streets/sidewalks for Sunday. Hoping to get out tomorrow for some. That sushi looks so yummy!

Reply

Your little girl is so cute & the fur vest just makes her even cuter! 3 things I did….
1) made a new friend
2) first attempt at becoming a swimmer (I injured my foot this month taking a break from running)
3) baked skinny raspberry choc chip muffins

Reply

1. Happy hour with friends to celebrate my one year blogiversary on Friday night
2. Ran ten miles with the Cruisers yesterday
3. Made yummy food for watching the Super Bowl

I love Brooke’s fur vest, too!

Reply

You seriously have the best hair!

Reply

Try Ice Spikes for running outside. You ca order them online at ice spikes.com. I live in Upper Michigan – we have had over 200 inches of snow….I just ran in them this weekend. Thanks for blogging. It keeps me inspired!

Reply

Three things…cleaned the house, ran, and got some fro yo… Very relaxing weekend living in sweats and running clothes. I’ve grown to like winter running too! I stuck it the treadmill on Saturday because of crazy winds, but had a gorgeous sunny afternoon run today! I had some snow and slick spots to dodge, but the sun on the snow made it so bright and happy ;)

Reply

1. Went out for Mexican with the hubs
2. Church with the fam
3. Cleaned my filthy car

Reply

I did 63. Happy with the miles for me. Love your speed and your total miles!

1. Ran my first 10K. I have run 5Ks, 8Ks, half marathons, but never a 10k
2. Tried the foam roller for the first time and looooovvvved it.
3. Volunteered at the wonderful Ronald McDonald House.

Reply

I ran my best half marathon! Plus all in the cold rain, and still managed to have a great time!

Reply

Brooke is so cute! I did my first 11 miler this weekend, so awesome!

Reply

My running was pretty scarce. An unexpected snow storm got me stuck at the hospital for a couple of days.

3 things:
1. work
2. catch up on sleep
3. shopping with my mom and grandmother

Reply

1. ran my first half marathon, 2. ate a ton of good food, 3. celebrated the one year anniversary of our engagement :)

Reply

I made 18 felt cat in the hat hats for my daughter’s kindergarten class, went out to eat with my friends something I have not done in about a year, and had a great racewalk today!

Reply

Congrats on the January miles – crazy it was all in snow! You earned those miles haha!

Reply

WOW over 200 miles in one month?! I’d be proud if I could run 75 miles in a month! You are such an inspiration, Janae! <3

I live in Chicago so I totally understand how winter running can be! Sometimes it is a gamble! Between below freezing temps and over 10 inches of snow, training for a spring marathon has been something else! At least it builds character! Three things I have done this weekend BESIDES running….I played whirlyball for the first time ever and it was AWESOME! We also helped volunteer for a local 5k which a training program completed at the store I work at! The rest of the weekend included working, Super Bowl festivities and homework. I also started a training blog. Here is the link!

I wish I could get myself to run outside. At the beginning of the winter it wasn’t so bad but then it has quickly turned into a ridiculous winter in Chicago. So I am just counting down the days until spring so I can get back outside and running regularly!

Reply

Running buddies are the best… mine moved :(
Are you in official training mode or is this an ‘easy’ month?
When I’m not training for anything I have a hard time keeping my miles up! It’s a good time to swim and bike!

Injury = no running :( I’m hoping to walk a 1/2 marathon next weekend.

3 things: my niece spent the night & had the throw ups, pedicures with my favorite girls, & watched The Little Mermaid with the littles

Reply

That is some crazy awesome mileage, Chick.

I went Christmas shopping with my friend, spent far too much time talking over lunch, and spent a beautifully quiet day with my sick husband. The cold that never ends.

I want Brooke’s vest but it wouldn’t be nearly as cute on me. I love every picture you take with her wearing it.

Reply

1. Went to Target.
2. Went to a bakery to order a cake (and accidentally came home with a cupcake!).
3. Played with my girls!

It wasn’t bad at all!:)

Reply

Great mileage, and thats AWESOME that you are keeping track of it!! :)
three weekend things:
-Had my “Girls Christmas” on saturday (I KNOW, WE ARE SO SLOW)
-Ran 22 miles on Saturday!
-made jewelry on sunday! I haven’t made anything in like a YEAR so it felt GREAT to do it!! :)

Reply

That fur vest is pretty adorable.

This weekend I painted our basement, hung out with a 4 week old, and read a book instead of watching the super bowl :)

Reply

Congrats on your January mileage! You are such an inspiration. Keep up the good work!

3 things I did this weekend:

1. Ran a 10k–and got a PR :)
2. Made some new friends–which I desperately need!
3. Cooked up some marvelous new recipes for the Super Bowl. It was all so delish!

Have a great week and keep smiling :)

Reply

I started my training with Team In Training on Saturday and it was fantastic! I met some wonderful people and it was so nice to run with others for the first time in forever. I know I am going to love this season of running.

Reply

Breaking 100 is always my goal when I go bowling! Which i like every 4 years or something. No one ever seems to want to go.
I have some awesome donuts to show you in a few weeks. They are my treat after finishing a 50K relay in March!

Reply

Mmm, doughnuts and sushi – two of my favorite foods!

Reply

Falling on ice? Try Yaktrax! I haven’t fallen on ice/snow/slush/other winter obstacles since I purchased those. I love them!

Reply

If you can still find that vest, you should buy one in a bigger size :-)

Reply

I ran a 10K Saturday! It was the longest distance I had run since injuring my hip last year and I felt great and was super happy about that!

3 things:
1) Had a visit from some Vegas friends
2) Ran the 10K
3) Watched the Super Bowl

Reply

I had sushi this weekend too!!

Oh man! That sushi looks so good. I am 12 weeks pregnant and sooo missing sushi. I am going to buy a donut today after yoga to help make up for it. I also love that vest on Brooke! Want to send it to me if I have a little girl?

Reply

How could they possibly run out of apple fritters?? Didn’t they know you were coming??? LOL

I went in to Boston for the day on Saturday. Perfect day! :)

Reply

auuughhh! I have an amazing local donut shop, and their apple fritters are the best thing ever! But they always sell out early too. It drives me crazy and I don’t understand why they don’t just make more every day! Now I’m going to have to try and nab one tomorrow morning ;)

Reply

I really love reading your stuff. I have bookmarked this page and after work I read interesting things to update myself and to refresh my mind. I just wanna say thank you and wish you all the best for your writing. Keep it up and stay healthy :)

Reply
