2 things:

1.  I am already experiencing major DOMS in my calves from the downhill miles yesterday.

2.  My running motivation to train hard is starting to come back (it has been missing since the end of October) and I am really excited about that.  Great things are going to come this year.

———————————–

Just the normal afternoon with my favorite crew and all of the randomness that comes along with them.

Brooke was craving cucumbers so I made sure to get a few for us.

IMG 7134

Later on the two of us hit up an indoor slide (we hang out here a lot..  I know, I am getting too cool) to get some energy out before Brooke’s bedtime.  It is next to impossible to get a picture of her when she isn’t moving.

IMG 7155

I found an Elmo sandwich cutter.   I wonder how long her ‘obsession with a red puppet to the point of calling her own mother Elmo’ stage will last.

DSC 9274

Once she went to bed I hit up one of my favorite places in my area.  I love that this shopping center keeps their lights up forever and their fire pits are needed during January.

DSC 9277

It was time to celebrate a birthday.  We had matching purses last night, we felt pretty cool about that.

DSC 9280

We went to Tucanos which is a Brazilian steak house and they have the absolute best salad bar.

IMG 7156

They come around to your table with all sorts of different types of meat (the mango fried cod is my favorite) and also this pineapple that is grilled in brown sugar.

IMG 7157

And then I came home and had some ice cream while I looked at Instagram.  I look forward to new Instagram pictures a little too much.  How did we all live before the IG?

DSC 9281

So my sister and I are trying this new thing where we don’t eat dessert after every single meal, snacks etc because that probably isn’t’ the best thing for our body.  Here’s to attempting just one dessert a day…  Anyone want to place any bets on how long this will last for?

I eat dessert every night! Usually it involves a chocolate bar. Or two.

That shopping centre looks to gorgeous with the lights and fire. Our Christmas lights are still up – fighting the January blues with them!!

When I run, I get sore feet. Blister city :(

I don’t have a child, but I just spent the weekend with my friend who has an 18 month old daughter. She ate porridge f0r breakfast, and a cheese omelette for lunch. Anything new there for you?

Dessert is a nightly occurrence for me. It’s not always a crazy cake or brownies, sometimes it’s just chocolate or a small bowl of ice cream, but I basically can’t sleep without it. I rarely get sore from running but body pump and running after a week and a half off both has me insanely sore!

I used to have a sandwich cutter like the Elmo one. My mom thought it would make me like sandwiches. She thought wrong.

Reply

I get sore quads usually! I used to eat 4 scoops of ice cream every single night but lately I’m being a bit better ;) though I’m eating more helpings of savory food so I don’t know how much “better” it is….

Reply

My calves are super tight today which made for a slightly uncomfortable run this morning. I’m finally starting to get my motivation too. I lost mine after my last triathlon back in September, managed to scrape by for my half marathon in October, then lost it completely. So I definitely feel for you!

Reply

I eat dessert every single day! Only one though…after dinner :-). I always look forward to seeing yours!

Reply

It is really hilarious that Brooke calls you Elmo. Why haven’t we seen video of that, yet?

Usually, after a tough run my quads and glutes are sore. Pregnancy, though, has basically made everything sore after a run. Gotta love relaxin!

Reply

I tend to really only eat dessert at restaurants. We don’t stock it at the house because with two people it either goes bad quickly (except ice cream) or we end up eating a cake in a couple of days. That isn’t to say we don’t stock it. Anyways I probably eat dessert most times I go out so that’s that.

My calves always get sore…after almost every hard run.

Reply

Grilled pineapple is the best!

I try not to have sweets/desserts in the house. I eat them way too quickly!

Reply

I’m not actually a big sweets lover (I know, scandalous!!) but i still eat dessert probably 3 times a week. A couple nights ago, it was a piece of vegan lemon cake from Whole Foods with cream cheese frosting…mmm…I work at a preschool, so I see the toddlers’ lunches, and they eat similarly to how Brooke eats, so I have no suggestions! A lot of them are really into pita bread and hummus, and those squeezable applesauces.

Reply

I skipped a few workouts to sledgehammer a concrete pond. It’s 36 hours later, and my arms and shoulders are still “good sore.” Thankfully the legs are better!

Toddler Meals

*Roasted Veggies (cut up veggies into bite-sized pieces, coat in olive oil, season with spices of your choice, place on cookie sheet/pan in oven at 400* for 40 minutes, turning at mid point.) – This is one of our faves, and we love a combo of sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, thyme, rosemary, oregano, parsley, basil, etc.

*Mashed potatoes and peas. (Sweet, simple, easy)

*Beans and rice with some onions and carrots. (Costco has Seeds of Change rice and quinoa packets that we use for it. Saute onions and carrots in a bit of olive oil, add black beans to the pot and cook, finally add the rice and let it cook a bit longer.) – You can add extra seasonings, make it into a burrito, etc.

*Veggie burgers (Simple and sweet. I know to make two because Susanna will eat at least half of mine.)

*Yogurt and granola. (I make my own granola and when I’m being lazy for dinner, this is a go to.)

*Rosemary chicken (Chicken and fresh rosemary from our front yard with a bit of butter- cook in the oven. The hub makes this in a dutch oven, and my veggie-ness stays away though it smells good!)

Reply

Yes these are all excellent suggestions! I was going to suggest smoothies with spinach and avocado along with fruit and baked oatmeal for breakfast. Also quesadillas are great with chicken and veggies thrown in them.

Reply

Quesadillas! How did I forget those?

While I’m remembering…

The salad macaroni (very small) is great for toddler fingers! Rice pilaf and veggies (which is easily reheated with a bit of olive oil). Peanut butter and crackers or toast (it’s a go to for Susanna). Bananas (she’ll stand beside me on a chair while I prep, eating a banana). Also, any Asian noodles or rice with veggies.

I always make extras so we have a variety of “top shelf” food (our word for left overs, as they go on the top shelf). It helps with lunch when she’s hungry in a moment or dinner when I’m sometimes tired.

Reply

I hardly ever buy desert, and therefore hardly ever eat it. That said, if I send my husband to the store for something, he almost always comes home with a carton of ice cream! And I can’t resist ice cream, so if it’s in our freezer, I eat it. :)

Reply

I am sore! I did a workout with incline and speed last night and between that and lifting, and a workout this morning, I’m feeling it! I usually get sore in my quads and hamstrings. Love feeling that. I need to get in on that only one dessert a day! ha I’m getting a little out of control with it!

Reply

My sister was around Brooke’s age when the big tickle me Elmo craze was going on in the late 90s. All we could find for Christmas that year was the tickle me big bird and she ended up moving on to bigger, better things after that (ahem, blues clues). I’m sure she’ll have a new favorite once she has everything Elmo :-).

In our house we don’t call it dessert, we call it our nightly snack because it somehow sounds healthier lol. Either way, we eat dessert every night and I usually have some candy with my lunch. There’s some banana pudding ice cream calling my name!

Reply

my hip flexors are sore right now. not really sure why though, yesterday was an off day. A little dessert everyday is essential for me!

Reply

I totally didn’t understand the Elmo thing with my BF’s kiddos- they had never even seen him before and became totally obsessed!
I am OUTRAGEOUSLY sore today from running 6 miles (TM) between 7.8-8.2 mph so that I could get it done quick before muscle pump- my shoulders and glutes are dying even though I didn’t go as high as I could have on the weights.
I am using you as my inspiration to keep going to pump class! It is sooo hard to fit in during training, and I know my MLR today is going to be tough, but I am going to get it done :)
Dessert= every night.

Reply

I have to remind myself that dessert is not mandatory after lunch… hah I always find myself wanting some chocolate chips or something! Maybe I will try this with you and your sister :)

Reply

My daughter is almost 4, and loves to eat anything that she has “helped” to prepare. We make her lunch together for preschool and she loves it! We sometimes do a “roll up” which is just peanut butter and jelly rolled in a whole wheat tortilla and cut in half. She likes to roll it :) we also do our own “lunchables”.. I cut the turkey into small shapes with cookie cutters, along with crackers and cheese, so she can make little sandwiches.. Another favorite is cheese and pepperoni or turkey rolled and baked into a crescent roll. Yum! We are having an issue with vegetables right now, so she always gets what I call a “squeeze treat” but is just those squeezable veggie/fruit combos.. She loves them :)

Reply

I’m actually not eating dessert for a few days because I’ve been a SUGAR crazy woman the past couple of weeks. :)

Reply

My hip flexors are sore right now!!

You.can.do.it (with the dessert)!! I unfortunately tried to do the same thing and ended up eating 3 desserts at the 1 sitting. So now I am trying to eat literally 1 dessert a day.

I do not have a toddler, but every one in my life loves mac and cheese, and buttered noodles.

Reply

After the crazies of hue he holidays, I was literally craving dessert after every meal — even breakfast. I’ve been trying to cut back and limit it to after dinner since eating sugar makes me crave more sugar, but some days are more successful than others…

Reply

Today is my run today its going to be rough after being out of town most of last week.

I like to make “snack” plates for my son. I buy the plates at Target that have 4 to 6 little compartments then put fruit and veggies in them with crackers or noodles. Brysen thinks its a special treat when really its a way to sneak in more fruits and veggies!

Reply

I think the steakhouse you went to is in the same family of steakhouses I went to last week for my birthday. Texas de Brazil in Memphis! Amazing!

Reply

I eat dessert before almost every meal. It is delicious :) sometimes it’s just a bunch of chocolate but usually brownies or cookies are my favorite!

Reply

My arms and core are dying from 2 days of cross-training earlier this week. I sneezed last night and thought I was going to cry, but then realized that would hurt too, so I stopped.

Reply

Yay for soreness. Looks like you had an awesome run. I have a 14 month old and my mission in life is sneaking veggies in everything she eats. I purée veggies and mix them into the pancake batter. I also love to make her ground turkey patties with veggies (zucchini works best) she is also obsessed with egg and cheese wraps, and yogurt parfait a with chopped fruit. :)

Reply

I eat dessert every night. I can’t go without something sweet. That being said, my at home desserts are usually on the healthier side as in an apple with peanut butter and dark chocolate or frozen greek yogurt etc. I save my cupcakes, cookies and cake for nights out or random cravings during the week…Toddler meals? hmm. Besides the usual grilled cheese and pizza and chicken nuggets, I used to buy Amy’s Organic Sheppard’s Pie and the pizza snacks for my son (and still do now). Also, Dr. Praegar’s makes a nice line of kid-friendly healthier foods. I also used to roll bits of chicken that I made for myself with the inside of a potato and sometimes soft carrots with some ketchup. My son would be able to pick them up in the little “mashed potato balls” and still get a dose of protein and vegetables.

Reply

I eat dessert every night! Usually ice cream because if we have cake and stuff I eat ice cream AND cake, then more cake later… ugh.

Reply

So excited that your motivation to train hard is back : )
I am super bummed your coach did not pick me, I could really use a coach right now!!
I have dessert whenever I feel I want one. no limitations for me, I only rebel against them…HARD.

Reply

You know, I’d pretty much managed to cut dessert out on weekdays. Then, the holidays happened. Ah well, it was worth it. :-)

Reply

Dessert every night! My hamstrings are currently begging to be rolled out.

Reply

well mum, maybe you didn’t know but the goggle-eyed gfilodsh died a long time ago.Looks like I’ll just turn white (but hey with any luck, that one will soon be dead). Then I’ll have nothing to resemble.

I’m not too sore this morning, but I was yesterday! After I hit leg day, then did a HIIT run the next, I was wobbling all over the place haha at least this time I could actually get out of bed, and not fall out of bed. I eat dessert everyday, in the form of chocolate. Without doing that, I end up being the grumpiest person.

Reply

I’m a little sore from yesterday’s intervals. I love being slightly sore. Lol

Reply

I have something sweet everyday but usually just once a day. I haven’t been sore in over a week. I’m lacking motivation to run at all now that I’m tapering for our half marathon next weekend. Eek! Fingers crossed I don’t flip out :/

Reply

I just do dessert at night. The best thing happened last night for me! I went to Menchies for some FroYo and they were have BOGO – I got another in my freezer. You know what I will be enjoying tonight :)

Reply

Brazilian steakhouses are the the BEST!!! And I agree the salad bars are awesome too. I’ve also been trying to cut back on desserts and get in more nutritious snacks (for the baby’s sake). The cravings diminish pretty quickly and I have more energy snacking on stuff like trail mix instead of cupcakes ;-)

Reply

Hope you’re feeling betetr now. (Guess you are: arm curls carrying potatoes! Impressive :)I need to ask about the 1pt hot dogs! The best I found last summer were 2 or 3 pts. Are they veggie dogs?

Reply

My calves get sore (like they are today) when I do speed intervals. My hamstrings get sore when I do my distance training.

I am not a big dessert guy, will sometimes have some of the kids dessert if they aren’t going to finish theirs. Maybe some ice cream or oreo cookies.

I am actually a dad, but we have the same issue with our 15 month old. Her meals consist of grilled cheese, corn dog/hot dog, some vegetables (pees, carrots, green beans), spaghetti noodles, cheese and turkey. Good luck, they are super picky at that age.

I am always sore in my calves and hamstrings but I just bought a foam roller and it has been way less since then! (My cursing on the other hand…:)) okay and toddler food- my one year old loves cucumbers! I’ve also started blending up our dinner leftovers (like sweet potatoes and I’ll add a banana and applesauce) and put them in those reusable squeeze pouches and he totally digs those! I bought them at nourishwithstyle.com They are pretty awesome!

Reply

I love it! I always feel guilty because I have the worst sweet tooth and I can’t go a day without having something sweet and seeing you have the same weakness, especially for ice cream makes me feel so much better about myself. You show us that we are all human and just another normal person. BTW my 4 year old has the same doggy shirt as your adorable daughter.

Reply

I gave up desserts 13 days ago. I got a little too carried away eating way too many each day. I’m an all or nothing person.. giving up sugar has made me feel 100% better. Now I’m eating frozen fruit and loving it! No more cake, cookies and ice cream for me.

It’s weird, I don’t ever get sore in my legs (must not be doing hard enough running), but my feet just are stiff and a bit sore every morning.

Reply

I recently jumped on the breakfast dessert train and there is no going back! Lunch dessert and dinner dessert was already a thing, so it was about time. ;) There is NO better time for chocolate than 9am in my opinion!

Reply

I don’t usually have an official dessert every night, but I eat a sweet snack (handful of M&Ms, cookies, etc.). I guess it’s the same thing maybe? I don’t usually have a ton of options because my husband doesn’t like sweets so I don’t usually make a pan of brownies just for myself.

I have tons of toddler meals, so email me if you want details/recipes/more suggestions. My son (16.5 months) rarely eats so I have tried so many things to figure out what he’d want. I can’t believe Brooke eats that entire sandwich with tomatoes and oranges – my son would take a bite or two and be done.

For breakfast I usually give him oatmeal with bananas and shredded coconut or muffins (I make pumpkin muffins every once in a while and freeze them) or pancakes (also made ahead of time and frozen) or eggs (usually made the night before – today I sent him with scrambled eggs with cabbage). For lunch he gets a variety of different things but I try to have a bunch of stuff frozen in the freezer that I can use if we didn’t have something the night before that he enjoyed. In my freezer now I have frozen butternut squash soup (which I mix with rice when it’s defrosted), pumpkin soup, spinach and quinoa patties, lentil burgers, meatballs, and tomato sauce (a sauce I make with pureed spinach and sweet potatoes – I usually serve the sauce over the meatballs with polenta or rice). For sides he usually gets yogurt, string cheese, blueberries, applesauce, a banana, rice cakes, or bread. I used to make him peanut butter sandwiches but now my sister’s daughter is severely allergic to all nuts so we aren’t allowed to send him with that anymore (my son goes to my sister’s for daycare). For dinner he usually eats what we have and if he refuses I try and pull something from the freezer. But let’s be clear here, he is NOT an eater and getting him to eat more than five bites of anything is really hard. I get really, really excited when he eats 1/4 cup of oatmeal!

I normally eat dessert every day, but I feel better if I tone it down a bit. I would never be able to give up chocolate or ice cream!

Okay, wow. I have learned so much about running from your blog. It’s a bit insane how much you and informed and inspired me as a beginning runner.

I’ve basically been hit or miss with searching the archives, which has been great, but have you ever considered starting “How To” or more informational tab for your blog? Stuff as simple as why wearing compression socks is a good thing (which I’m not even sure if it is), what a calf sleeve is, proper running stretches etc. would be beneficial to your readers like me who are just starting out, or a great resource for more advance runners for support.

You have so many good running techniques and strategies to share, and such a great audience, I don’t know, just a thought.

Either way, I love catching up in the early morning and again before a run! Thanks!

I loved Elmo when I was Brooke’s age. I had an Elmo stuffed animal that I took EVERYWHERE. One day I left it at daycare and I threw a temper tantrum in the backseat of my dad’s car until he turned around and got it. Haha! I still have my Elmo :)
I’m actually sore from yoga yesterday (I know, what?!). My shoulder blades/back are killing me!

I am usually sore in my shins, hips and lower back after long runs.

Is that peppermint ice cream?!

I usually get sore in my hips and glutes. I am a little sore today but already did some foam rolling and it helped a lot! I usually eat dessert every night. I try not to eat sweets throughout the day because I know I always look forward to a treat after dinner!

Toddler meal ideas: French toast sticks, baked oatmeal, quesadillas cut into strips, grilled cheese, avocado slices, cheese + crackers, smoothie, granola + raisins + chocolate chips in a lil cup, super thin cut apple slices, raviolis, pizza on a tortilla, cuties (clementines), air popped popcorn (sometimes I toss in raisins + chocolate chips), sliced hard boiled egg.
One of my kids favorite drinks is when I warm some milk, add a little bit of vanilla flavor, honey and cinnamon. It almost tastes like a warmed vanilla milkshake..it’s really good!

I just ordered the Elmo sandwich cutter (and plate and silverware) for Liam! He is OBSESSED with Elmo and I’m hoping they will convince my picky dude to EAT! :)

i eat dessert every day! YOLO

I don’t eat dessert that often…I just crave cheese constantly. I think I have it at every meal!!

Reply

I have some kind of treAt everyday. Right now, it just fruits or a protein bar.

I am sore in my calves and hams. Ice bath and chiropractor fixed it pretty well. I’ve been stretching like crazy, but avoiding lifting those muscles. That could be the problem. My quads are a lot stronger than my hams for sure.

Meals (foods)–eggs, oatmeal, quesadillas, canned green beans, sm00thies are my 2 year olds faves right now.

Reply

Dessert is the best… When I run out of dessert I down fruit!

Reply

hmmm…I probably have dessert at least 5 times a week. I should be better about that too. Especially since I can’t run as much right now, so it’s not like I’m burning it off like I used to! haha!

Reply

I usually get bad cases of DOMS in my quads. But I ran 3x1000m on the track last night and I felt a bit of pain in my calves which never happens – so that was weird. Sometimes I get some hip pain too, but nothing too major.

I sometimes eat dessert 2x a day, sometimes never – really depends. If someone shoves a piece of pie in my face, it is going to get eaten!

Toddler meals – snack plates with veggies, meat, fruit and some sort of grain (we have some trays), pasta anything, shepard’s pie, soup (Max LOVES soup right now), burgers that are all cut up with some sauce for dipping, homemade breaded chicken. Usually I have a meat, veggie and grain/carb on every one of his trays for dinner.

Reply

My hip flexors and calves typically get sore after runs! Currently my hamstrings are pretty sore thanks to Pump Class yesterday though. I think a run will feel nice today to stretch them out a bit.

I’m liking your new dessert challenge… I’m so guilty of eating something sweet 2-3x per day rather than just one dessert. I think my sweet tooth amped up around the holidays and still hasn’t gone back to “normal” (which is still pretty high since I just LOVE sweets).

Reply

Are you sore anywhere from running/working out right now? -I’m sore from painting my bathroom! All those squats to paint low really paid off!

How often do you eat dessert? Almost every night…whether it be a hershey kiss or a slice of cake. Last night I bake Brown Butter Nutella stuffed chocolate chip cookies w/ sea salt! Recipe: http://thebitesizedbaker.com/2012/09/18/nutella-stuffed-browned-butter-chocolate-chip-cookies-with-sea-salt/

What are some great toddler meals? – I love sautéed zucchini tossed with pasta and a little butter (sprinkle of cheese). The little one loves eating it with her fingers!

My knee keeps swelling up on me, but since I am seeing my orthopedist about it and we have been dealing with it for months and have determined its ok I am trying to figure it out in other ways. I think I have determined that I need to figure out a different way to stretch. I went to a pilates class and it has been much better ever since.

Having trouble with dessert since I have started running more I now want more sweets again :)

Reply

Does jello and cool whip count? that’s the extent of my desserts lately…but I could seriously go for a warm oohy brownie or warm gooey chocolate chip cookie. Geesh, I’m craving sweets! darn carb detox.

Toddler meals? Mine just seems to graze all day and never has a real ‘meal.’ The only ‘meal’ she gets is likely 2oz of a meat typically turkey meat or tuna and then she’s off with goldfish and squeezefruits.

I only allow myself desert on the weekends… last weekend I had froyo twice! I have been getting pretty great at mastering the best combo-toppings.

Mmmm I love grilled pineapple … I bet with the brown sugar it was AH-MAZING.

I eat dessert probably four days a week. Usually just a cookie or those little single servings of ice cream. I love the chocolate/vanilla swirl single servings from Blue Bell :)

Reply

Tot meals – we are lucky to have a great eater, but when she is being picky we bust out the kid chopsticks, give her chopsticks and she will eat anything! We have found that she loves quinoa so I try and have that with vegirs and Matt mixed in as a side dish. Soup is also a huge deal, if she can eat all the solid pieces then drink her dinner she is happy!

I have a dead butt right now. I’ve had a dead butt for a while, apparently it’s a syndrome…technically its called Gluteus Medius/Minimus Tendinosis or Gluteal tendinopathy but I call it dead butt and it hurts.

I eat dessert every day and sometimes twice or even three times. I’m working on this, but it’s so hard not to have dessert after every meal. I have been substituting ice cream for fruit or jello and that seems to work a little but I cannot and I will not give up my froyo!

Williams Sonoma has these awesome pancake molds shaped like star wars ships, Brooke is a little young for that, but I make them all the time and the kids, (my husband and grown son) love them and I do too. ;)

Reply

oh my gosh, my quads and calves are SO sore from my half marathon on Sunday. I was injured during most of my training and only made it up to 9 miles 4 weeks before the half, then I took off three weeks because of my IT band. I didn’t know if I’d even make it 2 miles because of the injury but I ran the whole thing! And now I’m feeling it…

Reply

I eat dessert after lunch and dinner–every day! I just feel like I always need a little something and YOLO! When I get sore it’s definitely in my left hip/glute area. I’ve injured that area so many times it is my weak link without a doubt. I think it is what keeps me from ever going more than 10 miles but I am totally OK with that. Some running is way better than no running!

Question: will you do a recovery run today to help the DOMS? Would love to know how you work through that.

Take care!

I have serious sweets cravings after dinner but I can usually satisfy it with a scoop of cookie butter or a fruit popsicle so Ive decided its not the end of the world

I usually get sore/tight in my calves and IT band…foam rolling is a necessity!

I have to have more sort dark chocolate everyday – usually just a little piece will do. Otherwise I go out with friends for froyo once a week or so!

One dessert a day makes me sad but seems reasonable….I will try it as well but make no promises;). That outdoor shopping center looks amazing. My whole body hurts- marathon training….but my brain is tired too. Constant training can get a bit mentally exhausting. Maybe my brain has DOMs too.

My 4-year old asks for dessert after all meals including breakfast. She only gets it after some lunches and dinners but she keeps asking. My kids are all way too keyed into “d” … a family of sweet tooths (teeth?) we are. Best toddler meals are ones they’ll eat! I always start off feeding them what I’m eating and when the balking gets tiresome I break out the hot dogs, quesadillas, pb&j, spaghetti… Seriously, whatever works.

Reply

Three days post marathon and the only things that hurt are quads, just a touch, and lower back, a little. Pretty sure I will attempt my first run tomorrow. Easy of course.
Dessert is a must for me after every meal. I simply NEED something sweet after a meal. Last night all I could find was a bag of mini chocolate chips. 3/4 of the bag was demolished in no time flat.

Reply

I am also trying to tame my sweet tooth but it is really easier said than done!

Reply

I always fed my boy whatever we were eating, and if he was difficult or something new/”weird” I would bribe him with half a gummy bear for each full bite of food. (My reasoning was he would be getting his treat after anyways, so if it made my life easier all the better) and I gradually started giving him less gummy or treat for each bite. After a few months he ate everything and only had treats after he ate. Now he eats everything from homemade vegetable soup to roast beef and asparagus and almost everything in between. I plan on doing the same if needed with my second who turns 1 on Sunday!

Thank you Janae for continually educating me on running and working out. I am still such the virgin to all this. I have been hobbling around since Sunday afternoon. I am so sore. I ran 7 miles on Saturday and pushed myself faster than normal to an 8:30 pace. Normally I run at 8:50 pace. The pace was not hard at all so clearly I have been holding out on myself. I am still recovering from a cold so I just said an hour run is enough.

I ran another 4 miles Sunday morning and did some leg workouts at the gym. Woke up Monday and it hurt to get out of bed. (I do not foam roll, maybe that would help?)

Took Monday & Tuesday off and ran 6 miles today. Still sore…but I do love it. I ran my first half marathon in Nov and I wasn’t sore after that. Should of pushed harder. Now I know.

We are trying to cut back on desserts too! It seems like we got in the habit over Christmas and now we need to scale it back.

My kids love to eat black bean and sweet potato tacos. It’s one of their favorite meals. The Elmo stage lasted for about a year and a half at our house. :)

Ooohhh… desserts. Soooo good but I cave in so much with them! I say… 3 days? No knock against you, but it’s just a testament to how good desserts are. :D

What kind of ice cream is that??? And I think the Elmo stage will last awhile- the twins I used to nanny loved him from 18 months to 3 years hah

Dessert every day! I’ve been eating birthday cake for a week (not complaining!) and today I had a piece of caramel nut apple pie… thanks for the sweet tooth, dad! I haven’t been sore from a workout in a long time. And I miss it. I just can’t get out there in the cold to run!

If I could I would eat dessert every single day!! I would have it after lunch and dinner too. But then I would probably be the size of a house! For that reason, we generally only have dessert about once, maybe twice a week. My favourite dessert is anything with chocolate or ice cream! We had delicious chocolate biscuits called Tim Tams (they are Australian) for dessert last night and thankfully we have left overs for tonight!

I am not sore at the moment, however my hamstrings get sore, in particular the part on my right leg towards my butt. I just make sure I stretch and roll after each run!

I have an uncontrollable sweet tooth. I don’t necessarily have dessert every night, but I do have something sweet pretty much every day. I can’t help it!

I just bought salted caramel ice cream at the store today so I’m pretty excited to try it out. Added bonus – it only has 6 ingredients!

I am impressed with everyone’s discipline re: desserts. I thought it was normal to have something sweet after meals and/or for one’s afternoon snack. I just made my husband go out to get me gf sweets for our vaca in a non gf location because I didn’t want to go without!

. . . Maybe 1 a day is a good goal :)

what I did and continue to do for my son, is I would make what I would eat, and make sure there were two things that V liked. Our rule is two things all gone and a bite of everything to have dessert. I would always include a fruit or veggie and then a starch or meat that he would like at every meal. That way he could still get dessert and at the same time experience new tastes. He also LOVES avocado, chopped up, he will eat one in one sitting. No salt, dip etc needed. Also he went through a phase where everything got dipped. I used yogurt a lot for that.

I have a little dessert almost everyday — not a huge bowl of ice cream or a piece of cake everyday, but just a little something sweet :)

I was an eat dessert after every meal kind of girl, but I have been trying to eat dessert just once a day. It’s one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. :)

I love feeling sore after workouts! To help me eat less dessert I keep dates on hand so I have something a little sweet to end a meal with. It’s not a perfect dessert replacement, but it helps!

I ate at La Jolla Groves in that same shopping center when I was in Provo last April!! It is the cutest spot!
