You’ll never guess…

I just couldn’t get out of bed Saturday morning so I went to run side by side with my sister later on at the gym during Brooke’s nap.   8 easy miles with a lot of deep conversation and I have no idea what is going on with my hair but it sure got some air.

Brooke knows what’s up at Costco.  She runs from one sample table to the next.   I have taught her everything I know.

IMG 5576

Day #14 tradition.  We bought the gingerbread house kit from Costco because I am not crafty enough to make one from scratch.   Brooke may seem too young for gingerbread house decorating but she really did get into it.

The finished product.   Yes, I agree… the gingerbread men’s faces do look creepy.

IMG 5578

You’ll never guess what I did last night…

Going to the movies has now become part of my monthly budget because I love going as much as possible.  I went to see The Hobbit and it was great but I was pretty stressed for the entire movie.   All I can say is I am even more afraid of spiders now after watching this movie.

IMG 5606

After the movie we went for ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI.  Brilliant.

IMG 5605

Sushi really is beautiful.

IMG 5604

And my favorite thing that I saw last night:

IMG 5596

Favorite sushi roll?

Are gingerbread houses one of your traditions?

What was your weekend run?  How did it go?

Anyone seen The Hobbit?  Anyone going to see it?

Despite my reservation, my friend and I DID do our long run outside yesterday! It was 7 degrees when we left and 13 when we got back. We did a crazy hard mountain trail, and with 3 inches of snow on the ground, it was pretty slow going. I’m glad we had one last hurrah though because last night we got a foot of snow (!!!), so I won’t be doing anymore trail running for the foreseeable future.

All you can eat sushi FTW! Never heard of such a thing! And that tree FTW too! Wowza. I have no seen the Hobbit but let me just say that you are a much stronger woman than me because I would likely be in the floor, under the chair, panic attacking if I even tried it. The movies are very overwhelming for me, and no, I don’t plan on ever becoming an adult. Haha. Loved your gingerbread house!

Reply

I made gingerbread from scratch once.. I burned out two mixers! So I think your pre made stuff is a better option :) I love sushi… I generally stick to the basics- Philly, salmon avocado, tuna avocado- with LOTS of ginger and wasabi ;)

Reply

I think I’ll make gingerbread making a part of my family’s traditions when I get married :) I’m waiting to see the Hobbit when I go back home next weekend with my brother. It was so difficult not to sneak and go see it this weekend with my friends but he would kill me if I went without him!

I really like teriyaki chicken sushi roll!!!

Reply

One of our sushi places here has a Louisiana roll with spicy crawfish and pickled okra. The okra adds just enough sourness and crunch. And now I want sushi at 7 am…thanks ;)

Ran for time yesterday. 75 minutes at a pace I just let my body dictate. Favorite part of the weekend so far.

Reply

Hot yoga yesterday really gave me a good workout so I was feeling extra sore this morning. I slept in a little extra and I’ll be going for my ten mile run this afternoon. I’m going to get all my food prep today for the week so I will be spending a lot of one on one time with my kitchen.
Favorite sushi roll red hot chili peppers from sushi rock in ft lauderdale. Double spicy tuna with jalepano. Yum!!
Love your gingerbread house. We have to make ours tonight!

Reply

That gingerbread house looks awesome! I miss sushi SO MUCH (there is none here) so at this point, I’d say everything is my favourite.

Reply

LOVE the gingerbread house, I don’t know why you would even attempt to make one, when you can buy the kit so cheaply. I want to know how you got her not to eat it all?

Reply

I really need your mindset when running on big gym treadmills. I get so intimidated by the people and distractions. You are a champ! Oh by the way, Gingerbread Houses rock! I didn’t do them as a kid, so I am thoroughly jealous of Brookers, but awesome!! The sushi looks pretty but I am terrified of raw fish, crazy I know! HAPPY SUNDAY!

Reply

I have only made a gingerbread house once, but yours looks so cute and perfect. Brooke has some master skills ;)

Reply

That is a beautiful tree!! I love the traditions that you are doing with Brooke, it makes this time of year so much for special! I love the California roll, even though I heard that is not really sushi. We did gingerbread houses last night and it was a blast!
This weekend had to be pushed to Monday because I have a college graduation ceremony to go to on Sunday and I worked all day on Saturday. :(
Have a great Sunday!

I’m pretty sure that I bought that exact same gingerbread house kit on more than one occasion — and yes, the gingerbread men always end up looking a little bit creepy.

The Hobbit! I’m dying to see it, but I’m currently up in the mountains with no movie theatre in sight so it’ll have to wait until I get back. Glad to hear it’s a good one!

Your gingerbread house came out amazing, especially compared to ours. Total disaster. Ah well, it was fun to attempt. I love sushi, my favorite roll is probably the spicy mango shrimp or spicy tuna Naruto. Hard to pick a favorite!

Cute gingerbread house! My husband is in charge of the gingerbread house making over here, while I do the cookie baking.

Yesterday I ran my running clubs small jingle run 10k and placed first female! Lol, before you go thinking I’m some speedster you should know there were only like 20 people running the 10k!! But I’ll take it, I won a plate of Christmas cookies!!

Reply

ok.. your gingerbread house looks amazing. Question: How do you get the house to stay up and not have it lean or crack? Everytime I make one it never works.. so frustrating haha.

Reply

That sushi looks SO GOOD! I moved last year and my new town has no sushi which is soul crushing. I love spicy tuna and dragon rolls best :)

Run was 8 miles early today before my body could tell me no! I didn’t get to go out to the movies last night but we stayed in and rented Elysium so still a movie date night, just with pajamas and ice cream instead of popcorn.

Reply

Great gingerbread house!! I’ll be running inside at the gym today…snowy and icy here. This afternoon, I’m finally seeing Hunger Games with my mom and cousin!!! Happy Sunday Janae!

Reply

Ummmm none of the above…lol

Never made a gingerbread house- my kiddos have with their grandma though.

I tries to get in a 5-6 mile run outdoors yesterday, but a serious blizzard hit. I mean serious. Winter warnings and they were closing roads. Cars off the road everywhere! Needless to say, I did 2 miles and called it quits. It was crazy.

Going to make up for it today though…somehow!

Reply

I thought The Hobbit was GREAT. But, yes, the spider scene was terrifying. My question is, would you rather face the spiders or the the dragon?!

Reply

Although I never built gingerbread houses as a child, I have “created” the tradition in the past 5 or so years because I love it so much! Fun way to sit around chatting with family while sneaking a few bites here and there :)

Reply

You often mention going to the gym or exercising during nap time. Did you do any sleep training with Brooke? What does her sleep schedule look like? Desperate mom of an almost four month old… :)

Reply

Oh my I love sushi! My favorite rolls include avocado, salmon, or crab.

Reply

all you can eat sushi night = my favourite night ;-) the best way to do it!

Reply

I’m running 8 miles today. The temperatures aren’t too bad today, I think it will get above freezing. The good thing is we just got a treadmill yesterday !! That sushi looks absolutely amazing! I want some so bad now! Janae you always make me so hungry for stuff! Shame on you! :)

Reply

I love everything with tuna. It’s the best! My long run wasn’t perfect but it got done and the recovery (watching Christmas movies in compression socks) was awesome :)

Reply

My weekend run was a local 5K. 2nd place in my age division and a new PR!

Reply

My weekend run got cut short yesterday because I wanted to do my long run at the beach and when I got down there the bridge was closed because of a holiday boat parade. I was a little mad at first but then I stayed to watch some of the parade :) I will have to redo my long run tonight!

Your gingerbread house is cute! In all of my 27 years I have never made one!!

Reply

Did my long run (11 miles) on a treadmill at the Y yesterday. Not exactly fun. Tried to do a road run, but my nose is still recovering from frostbite and it burned in the 16 degree temps, even with a thick coat of Vaseline on it. Learned my lesson and won’t be racing in sub-zero temps again! Really hoping to get outside soon….

Reply

I think I’ll wait to see the Hobbit when I can watch it at home for pizza/movie night – one of our traditions!

Reply

My family makes graham crackers houses and decorate them for on Christmas Eve. It is so much fun, and I like how you can pretty much do whatever you want with the graham crackers. I saw The Hobbit the other night with my hubby and we loved it! I am already looking forward to the next one! :)

Reply

Nailed a 15-mile tempo. Back to tapering for a makeup marathon.

All sushi is good. But add some mango to it.. delish!

Reply

I wear my hair up super high when I workout too! I’m not proud of how I look, but it’s quite effective. Sample days are seriously the best. I don’t have a Costco near me, so Sams Club samples have to suffice for me, but hey, samples are samples!

Reply

I’ll be trying to get a run in some time today. I love spicy tuna rolls!!!

Reply

I love decorating ginger bread houses!

Reply

We were so dedicated to seeing it that we went to the midnight premiere! I am so glad it was great because it made staying up late worth it!

Reply

I love the idea of gingerbread houses being part of our holiday traditions. I’m sure once Hunter gets older, we’ll get into it! Brooke did a great job on hers! ;)

Cody wants to go see The Hobbit soooooo bad! I could go either way on it. We’ll probably go see it within the next couple weeks.

Have a fabulous Sunday, my friend! xoxo

Reply

Going to see the Hobbit the day after Christmas with a bunch of people .. can’t wait ! Also you gingerbread house came out great

Reply

Favorite sushi is the las vegas rolls from Benihana’s. It’s so awesomesauce I can’t even describe it. ;)

Reply

I clearly don’t eat sushi because I thought that was a banana with chocolate sauce. :/

Reply

I actually have never built a gingerbread house. I probably wont’ start now until I have children but it is something I really want to incorporate with them!

Looks like you had a great run! Sometimes running next to someone on the treadmill can be as good as running with them outside – though our gym for the past few days have been impossible to find two treadmills side by side because this snow is bringing everyone in!

Reply

I’ve never had sushi before!! Your gingerbread house is so cute:) I watched the first Hobbit a few weeks ago and I couldn’t get into i. Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen Lord of the Rings? Both of my runs this weekend were done in single digit weather. It was terrible during them but I felt great when I was done!

Reply

btw included you in my post today. thanks for being awesome Janae!!!

No run yesterday. Elliptical instead with body weight exercises after (im staying at my brother’s so I have to improvise)

I went to the costco here and it was crazy nuts! I had to be really careful not to get run over in the aisle. My sil says that this costco isnt as busy as the slc costco. Um, I thought my cosotcos in ca were crazy…

We’ve only done a gingerbread house once. I will have to change that. Yours turned out cute and Brooke looked like a big girl sitting with it.

I love sushi! Haven’t had it in a while tbough. I dont like sashimi though. Gag!
Happy Sunday to you!

No Hobbit girl here….but we are pretty sure we are going to go see FROZEN for the 2nd time on Christmas Eve…(we usually watch a movie after Christmas Eve service at home but this year we agreed FROZEN is worth it!)

Sorry but that sushi reminds me of something out of Dr. Seuss and you might find it next to the WhoHash. ;-(

Reply

weekend run was 5 miles on the treadmill while watching Modern Family, laughing out loud on the treadmill definitely gets you some funny looks from other gym goes! Love the gingerbread house…Do you get to eat it when it’s all put together?

Reply

My favorite Sushi is Shrimp Tempura Roll. The kids and I always make one every year, we’re kind of behind this year…oops! Uhh..yea…um…I did not go for a run this weekend, I slacked off. Instead my family and I drove down to Springfield and watched Frozen and my husband yell at Christmas Shopping Mall traffic….it was lovely. LOL. I’ve never heard the word moron spoken so many times, but at least we got Krispy Kreme donuts and Starbucks coffee…did I mention I didn’t run this weekend. I really want to see the Hobbit this year but we don’t have a babysitter so either my son and I will watch it or we will wait until it’s released on DVD.

I love your lulu running outfit, so cute!

Favorite Sushi roll is the Autumn in Connecticut at my favorite sushi place in Hartford. I’m not even sure what is in it, but it involves avocado, some sort of honey soy sauce, and fish. Its amazing.

Reply

I am not a sushi fan, but I agree it is pretty!
We saw a house last night that had it’s lights hooked up to music, it was pretty cool.
My 9 year old read the Hobbit and is dying to watch the movie, so it may have to be a Mommy/daughter date.

Reply

We went and saw the hobbit too!! I felt like I wasted 4 hours of life.. haha! I don’t follow hobbit and or any of the lord of the ring stuff… but my husband loved it. And the spider part was by far the scariest part of the whole thing I had to cover my eyes..

Reply

Thank you SO MUCH for the heads up on the spiders. I will not be seeing The Hobbit. No matter how fabulous it is…I’m too terrified. Yes, I’m a wuss. Loved the book.

I also don’t like Sushi. Something is maybe wrong with me?

But I did have Mike n Ike’s for breakfast. Does that get me into the club?

Reply

Your gym is HUGE! Holy cow! Lovelovelove making gingerbread houses. And then eating them after ;)

Reply

Spicy crab roll is my favorite, hands down!!

Reply

Mmm…Did you see and like the first installation of The Hobbit? I didn’t super love the first , so I’m wondering if I should try the new one…

I’m waiting for my brothers to get home for Christmas, then we’re going to see it together!! :) You’ve made me want to make a gingerbread house now! They’re so fun and I rarely make them. Don’t know why. Maybe having kids will give me more of a reason to! :) Annnnd now I need sushi, too. ;)

There are situations in which ‘from scratch’ is overrated…gingerbread is one.

Don’t make me pick a favorite sushi roll. Our local places have too many amazing combos, I can’t keep the names straight. And I have to say this newly-discovered fish intolerance is the worst one of all :(

Have a beautiful Sunday!

Reply

I haven’t done a gingerbread house in years, but my problem is I just want to eat all the icing and candy!

Reply

Yes! We just made gingerbread houses too–see here: http://beautifulcrazylife4.blogspot.com/2013/12/gingerbread-houses-and-our-shopping.html

We used a kit too, but I almost think the made from scratch ones are easier!

Reply

I haven’t seen the Hobbit but I did see LOTR for the first time last night!!

Reply

I am beyond impressed by your gingerbread house building skills! My sister and I almost destroyed each other trying to make our Christmas before last :) I am not much of a movie person BUT I can’t wait to see The Hobbit!

Reply

If you are ever in St. Louis I’ll take you for a Philly cheesesteak sushi roll. It’s heaven on earth.

Reply

I’m all about the vegetarian sushi, although once in awhile I’ll crave a California roll.

Reply

So funny that you posted that gorgeous picture of sushi – my fiance is out of town, and I was just debating in my head – should I grab a book and head down to the sushi joint and take myself on a date. You’e convinced me – YES!

My favorite roll would have to be something called the Wolfpack roll, which is just some sort of crunchy roll that they named after NC State – I LOVE the crunch!

Reply

What a HUGE Christmas tree! It is so pretty!

We will probably be seeing the Hobbit next weekend when we are celebrating Christmas with my husband’s family. We saw the first one last Christmas so its only fitting that we see the next one this year!

Yesterday I ran a “Tacky light tour” run and it was fantastic. Everyone dressed in festive glow gear running through neighborhoods that are so lit up they are literally about to blow a fuse. There were hot cocoa and cookie stops along the way too instead of traditional water stations. So much fun and am officially in the holiday spirit now.

Reply

I made gingerbread houses this weekend too:) And I skipped my run yesterday, so it better be a good one today!

Reply

Saturday run = indoor track and today (FINALLY) back outside since December 3rd! Felt amazing and I think I smiled the entire time. I love your traditions and I love the gingerbread house. AWESOME! I really enjoy going to movies too, but have not seen any of the Hobbit movies. Have a wonderful & blessed day.

Reply

We just got back from seeing The Hobbit. I thought it was really good, better than the first one-but the spiders and webs creeped me out too. I think the gingerbread house came out great. I’ve never made one, but it looks fun.

Reply

Lately i’ve been on a sashimi kick and my favorite is eel. Ya sounds gross but so good. Don’t get me wrong, I still love sushi rolls as well. No run today but did 11 miles on the stairmill. Killer! Love it.

Reply

No to sushi. :-( But YES to gingerbread houses! I make these with my kids EVERY December!

Random question you- I’m sure you covered this in a post but I was wondering if you already raced your fall marathon or if it is still coming up? I’m only asking because a lot of our racing times our similar and I’m gunning for a sub 3 myself (my race is in 2 weeks). :-)

Reply

Ran 10 miles yesterday morning, and today was a rest day. I am not a fan of the hobbit- too creepy for me!

Reply

I had 10 easy miles with my running group. Omg all you can eat sushi?? The best we have here is bogo rolls. The look so good. I don’t have a favorite but I like thefried ones. I love the gingerbread house. You guys did a great job!

Reply

Gingerbread houses are made to be bought…that’s for sure. Favorite sushi roll is a California roll!

Reply

My weekend run was great, although I had a little trouble getting out of bed too! It was so hot here in Brisbane that I only managed 3.5 miles outside and had to do the remaining 6.5 miles on the treadmill in the air-conditioned gym!
So jealous that you have already seen The Hobbit! It doesn’t come out until the 26th of December here in Australia, so the boyfriend and I have plans to take Mum when it comes out, and while we are there I might pick up my favourite sushi for lunch, which is an avocado roll :)
Glad you had a great weekend!

Reply

Mike and I have plans to go see the Hobbit next week when we’re taking the whole week off from work. I can’t wait!!!

Reply

You love sushi & going to the movies as much as I do. Twinsies!

Reply

Aww the gingerbread house looks great! I love sushi too, I love anything with tuna, salmon, and avocado!

Reply

Oh man I love sushi…and I just found out that I’m pregnant and won’t be able to eat it :( That was the only part of the experience that made me unhappy haha. Please eat double the sushi for me.
Ps I’ve been reading your blog for about 6 months and it’s definitely my favorite! You’re doing awesome in every area of life!

Reply

Fav sushi roll- anything with tuna and the summer roll from Oysy in Chicago (tuna, red snapper, avocado, green pepper, chili oil, lime juice)

weekend run was a few miles on the hotel treadmill

Reply

Here is what I would love to hear you comment on – WHO takes the pictures of you when you are out and about and a “selfie” doesn’t work. Like when you are on the treadmill at the gym? I just visualize you asking random people to take pictures ALL THE TIME!

Miss you in CA! Hugs! and Merry Christmas!
