The reason I haven’t been loving running lately…

We have another FMW addict on our hands.  I think she may like them almost as much as I do.

IMG 5670

While we are talking about FMWs…  The one thing I have patience for in this world is taking the time to let my cereal get soggy.  I wait at least 2 minutes for my cereal to soak up the milk before eating it.

IMG 5626

Can we talk about how long Brooke’s hair is for just a second?

IMG 5662

I just couldn’t do another treadmill run today.  I am pretty sure my head would have exploded if I would have been stuck inside.

I waited until it got to be double digits outside to go out for my run.   I love it when the temperature is actually lower than they say the low is going to be for the day.

IMG 5668

My latest playlist for running.

THIS SONG has been my absolute favorite running song lately.  I can’t stop listening to it.

IMG 5669

The last few weeks I really haven’t been loving running at all.  I have been dreading most of my runs (I still always felt better when I finish my runs and that is why I kept running) but I just wasn’t in it.  The reason for that:  BEING STUCK INSIDE is bad for my soul.

Much better after a run outside.   I like running again.  I started with a 7:30 mile and ended with a 6:46 mile.  I only had to dodge ice for about 1.5 miles of the run.

IMG 5674

This pace wasn’t easy due to the combination of me losing fitness over the last 5 weeks and my lungs were frozen but it felt really good.

One of my biggest tips for running in the cold—>  take a hot shower right when you get home and don’t be like me and write a blog post first before showering because your sweat will actually turn into icicles and it hurts really bad.

Moral of the story of Hungry Runner Girl=  running outside is fun.  Running inside is sometimes fun if you have someone next to you to talk to but most of the time it is extremely boring.

IMG 5607

(PS that black dot is not a UFO…  I just really need to clean my camera lens)

I like my cereal somewhere in the middle. The temps here have been frigid by Florida standards…like barely broke 60 degrees today! Please don’t hate me ;)

I love Utah in the winter. It seriously is the most beautiful place. I visit every February and can’t wait until my trip this year. I feel the exact same way about winter running. I have such a hard time finding motivation to run on the treadmill. Running outside is the best!

Reply

That song is ALWAYS amazing to run to! I listen to that and Avicii-You Make Me on repeat for an entire run if I want to go all out!

Reply

I love soggy cereal ! Its the best. Lately I to have been doing treadmill running and I cant stand it! I have just been listening to alot of One Republic on Pandora radio. Todays temp was a high of 21. I am in Ohio and it has been alternating between snow and sleet lately. Going to run outside tommorrow! Sounds like you had a great run it looks beautiful there!

Reply

Definitely cereal in the middle! It’s an art form to time it *just*right. Most days I feel like Goldilocks.

My fave running tune is Beyonce Run the World. SUCH a good tune!!

Reply

Wow that is a good song to run to! Ill have to add it to my playlist.

I like my cereal somewhere in the middle usually…but it always depends on what it is. Apple Cinnamon Cheerios should be crunchy. But FMWs are definitely best when they’re soggy!

Temps here in Tucson are way warmer than I’d like for this time of year. Christmas season should be cold and snowy…but we are here in 60-70s and sunny. Blah.

Reply

I let my cereal soften. My husband eats Crunch Berries and cuts his mouth because he doesn’t wait. You’d think he’d learn.

We are experiencing a heat wave 50 degrees!

Reply

I have been using Rockmyrun a ton lately. It’s an iphone app with playlists specifically created for runners. I <3 it SO much. The only problem is that I dance with it on. Like a lot.

We just got back from a week in Colorado when the temperatures were about the same as where you are. The thing that struck me (TMI?) is that my bottom was really cold when I got back…and then when I got out the shower, it went bright red and itched really badly until the temperature got back to normal. FREAKED me out!

I loved running in the cold and snow but it was really nice to come back to the sunshine of the Bay Area and run today!!

Reply

I like my Honey Nut Cherrios crispy. I HATE running in the cold – so at this time of year – I’ll take the treadmill

Reply

Soggy cereal and two minutes is about perfect!!
It is a balmy 12 degrees here now but was 10 for most of the day. The only thing that makes one more week of recovery without any running easier is the frigid temps. Although…. I will go out in anything up to -5. I’m very fortunate to never have burning lungs. It’s probably the number one thing clients ask me about when running in the cold is how in the heck my lungs don’t hurt.

Reply

crisp for sure!! & weather in Houston was 28 this morning and now its up to 63. Its just crazy!

Reply

I hear ya running inside is the worst! Idk how you do it. I’m not so picky about cereal texture as I am milk temperature. It has to be ice cold!

Reply

I totally agree on ice cold milk.. I actually put 2 ice cubes in my cearel :)

Reply

We had a cold front today so 75 degrees. Pathetic. Gotta love South Florida winters. I love soggy cereal too. But just a little soggy.
I’m loving pandora lately. Put it on shuffle and get a good mix. I will be sure to check out your songs.

Reply

My bf and I just got back from running outside- there was snow all over the ground so it was kinda like a little extra balance workout while we ran! Also, I like crisp cereal… can’t stand soggy!

Reply

I like my cereal right in the middle. Well really anything but crunchy! My jams lately have been the christmas pandora station! And the temperatures here.. I don’t know how I managed 2 outside runs this weekend. Both in the single digits plus the freezing wind!

Reply

I like my cereal in the middle. Mostly soggy with a bit of a crunch still :) I actually run without music…even on the dreadmill. I used to be unable to run at all without it until I met my husband who introduced me to the world of running with your thoughts. It really helped me because I ran by the feel of my legs not the beat of a song & I got free therapy while I was at it ;) It’s been in the low 30’s lately which has confined me inside. Not because I’m scared of the cold, I actually love fall and winter running best but I’m 5.5 months pregnant with our 2nd son and the risk of falling on ice is too high to be worth it. So the dreadmill it is. We’re supposed to get into the mid 40’s and 58 degrees on Friday! I WILL be running outside then (since I’m confident most of the ice will have melted by then). The coldest run I’ve ever been on was 20 degrees. The worst part was getting out the door. Then it was fine! And dare I say, enjoyable? I much prefer being cold on runs then sweating my bum off. You can only take off so many layers…

Reply

Soggy cereal for me!

Reply

I could sing those same TM blues. Once I got outside, I felt so much better! I honestly believe that running outside is so much better for the soul. I finally got some good winter gear and it has made all the difference! But I too, hop in the shower as soon as I get home and then sit on my heating pad to warm up!

Brooke is cute as ever :)

Reply

Ohhhh How wholeheartedly I agree with this post! Unfortunately on the weekdays I have no choice but to run on the treadmill, that makes my weekends all the more precious!

Reply

I’ve been working out to Bastille and Lorde lately. Weird combination!

Meanwhile I saw your temperature and thought 10, that’s nothing, I love the cold. Then I converted it to Celsius… -12 what the..!!!!! That’s cold. I think the temperature yesterday here was around 32 Celsius so 89 -90.

Reply

I like my cereal crisp! I am loving One Republic right now, all of their songs! Temps are about 20ish here. I get the whole treadmill thing, drives me nuts! Brooke’s hair is so long!

Reply

Cereal needs to be crisp!! I’ve really been loving running to Thrift Shop :P

Aaand it’s about 45 where I am right now, which is bearable! But it’s about to cool down some more in the next few days!

Reply

It’s been in the 20’s overnight, but high 30’s during the day here. So far I’ve been able to run outside this winter. Last week I had to run mid-day to avoid the black ice on the trail, though.

Wow, Brooke’s hair is getting long.

Reply

It is cold here in NY but not cold like you have it! I have been running outside as often as I can – I can handle the frigid temps…it sure beats running inside on the treadmill. I totally agree with you – being inside running just plain stinks.

Reply

cereal=soggy! I rarely run with music, and we got over a foot of snow dumped on us just this past Sunday, on top of the, 8″ we already had. Temp has been -10C ish with lots of windchill and blowinb snow. getting outside some but relying on the treadmill because dodging snowplows is sketchy. Graders on side streets make your heart skip a beat lol.

Reply

Crispy cereal! I love slow down the song by Selena Gomez! It is actually pretty warm today- low 60s!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

cereal. somewhat crunchy. Honey Nut Cheerios

Well it was 32 this morning and I had to scrap my car, but we are going to be in THE LOW 70’s by Thursday. YES!!!

Reply

Last week was horribly cold here, even though it’s warming up this week I’ve kind of gone into wuss mode and might just stick to inside. Even though it’s not fun. I’ve been listening to the Pure Pop station on iTunes radio lately while running. Most of my faves are on your playlist as well :)

I like my cereal somewhere right in the stage between crunchy and soggy.

Reply

I’m sorry if you’ve covered this before, but do you run with any microspike system? Like Kahtoola Microspikes and/or Hillsound Trail Crampon Ultras? Do you have an opinion on which is the better runner? I already love them for ice hiking, but I’m soon to be moving to Colorado, so I need to add to my winter running ‘wardrobe’. As western Washington only seems to vary between 40-72, year-round (!), my concern for compact snow/ ice running has been nonexistent!

Reply

My cereal has to be crunchy. If it’s too soggy I will actually grow it out! Don’t hate me, lol.

Temp here today is high of 70 and low of 30. But this is some odd warm streak, it will be back to high 50’s/low 60’s again in a few days. I don’t know how you run in that freezing cold, I’m shivering when I run in 30 degree weather!

Reply

*throw* it out, lol

Reply

Cereal= crispy, I eat my food too fast for it to get soggy anyway :)
The weather has been chilly in Philly, but nothing like what you have been having (30’s); however, mother nature is going to tease us this weekend. Sunday is supposed to go up to 64 and then it will drop back to the 30’s next week.

Reply

My 8 month old has those pajamas too – they are so cute!!

Reply

I feel ya on being stuck inside — it’s definitely draining. My one saving grace is that I have snowboarding to get me through the winter, which is a god-send considering we have to deal with about 6 months of it up here in Canada. The temps have actually warmed up to around freezing though, which is super warm for this time of the year.

Cereal — somewhere in the middle. I don’t like it to be falling apart, but I don’t like it super crispy either.

Reply

It’s pretty darn cold here in PA. I had to dodge ice yesterday, but I finally found some roads that were nice and clear!

Reply

Depends on the cereal.
My 2 favorites
Cinnamon life: somewhere inbetween
Frosted mini wheats: soggy

Me too on brave. Josh Grobin has a song brave out as well. If you are running for theropy I highly suggest this song.

Reply

what a beautiful view on your run!!

Reply

I get that way at the change of seasons, too. Transitioning to strictly indoor running is so blah. It’s hard to go from summer & fall and feeling free and alive outside to the monogamy of a treadmill.
Cereal: somewhere in between
I’m in utah, too, so same weather :)

Reply

I am SO the opposite…I refuse to eat my cereal if it gets too soggy! I scarf it down as soon as I pour milk in it!

Reply

I just thought it was cold where I live, but it’s nothing like where you are! Good for you for braving that 10 degree weather! I also hate running inside, and I have been going for circuit training inside when the weather has been too bad here. I don’t have a treadmill so I don’t really have another option. :(

Reply

Soggy frosted mini wheats= the best. Luckily I live in southern California and am only bound to a treadmill when its late at night and I’m a scaredy cat.

Reply

I like crispy cereal for sure, so I eat it really fast as soon as I pour it. If it gets soggy, I throw it away.

I love it when Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” comes on my playlist while I run.

And not to rub it in, but I saw sunshine for the first time in over a week here today. It has literally rained nonstop over a week. Today it was in the high 50’s when I ran in the afternoon, so I guess I can’t really complain.

Reply

Totally agree with the moral of Hungry Runner Girl. :) I would rather run outside in almost any conditions than be stuck on a treadmill! It’s been COLD here lately, too. 3 degrees for my last run!!!!

Reply

I like my cereal somewhere in the middle, no too crispy and not too soggy.

Lately, I have been listening to Alt J for long runs and Funkin Matt’s – I wish I was a robot for speed workouts.

It was a brisk 53 degrees when I left for my run this morning which is probably warm by your standards but in Florida it’s freakin cold, brrrrrrrrr.

Reply

I don’t really listen to music when I run-am I weird? After reading this post I am sitting here KICKING myself for not picking up a box of FMW when I was at the store earlier (because I knew I would eat several bowls full). I really really want some now.

Reply

Ohhh my gosh, I need to stop making excuses for the cold when you just ran in 10 degrees and my “cold” is 50… :/ Yeeeeah… I actually don’t mind working out inside! I love my stationary bike and just read a book or watch something on tv when I’m on it! :) I also love doing at-home workouts too! Yay for free workouts!! And I am completely addicted to FMW too!!!! I have a bowl nearly almost night. It’s my number 1 craving at the moment!

xo

Reply

Crunchy cereal. I usually pour half my milk and half my cereal so I know I’ll finish eating it before it gets soggy. Then I go for a second bowl. Soggy cereal actually makes me gag :)

My friend is the lead vocalist in a rock band called The Infinite Staircase.
Their new album is available on iTunes. It’s titled “no amends”. The tracks that I listen to all the time for running are “can’t control it” “the optimist” “the things we’ve done” and “no amends”. Good stuff! (If you like heavy rock).

Brooke’s hair IS getting so long. :)

Reply

Oh goodness, I am up here in Logan, UT and it’s SOOO cold – almost impossible to run outside. I’ve been having to take things to the university indoor track.

I have been listening to a lot of Christmas music and Beyonce. .

Brooke is adorable!

Reply

I hate soggy cereal so much that I actually don’t even put milk on my cereal anymore – I just eat it dry.

Reply

I thought for sure you would have “Let It Go” from Frozen at the top of your list….we are so obsessed with that song, You Tube video, etc….and it mean soooo much …..just LET IT GO!!!!

I think it would be great to run to too. ;-)

Reply

My cereal needs to have a little crisp or it doesn’t seem right.
Right now, we’re in the 50’s most days but Sunday says it’s going to hi 75. SAY WHAT North Carolina?!

Reply

Crispy cereal all the way. If it’s soggy, I won’t eat it! I’ve actually been listening to Game of Thrones on audiobook lately on my runs. I’ve tried to read that book a few different times but just can’t get into it. I love the show so I know I love the story, I just can’t get into actually reading it! Audiobooks, I have found are so great for me to listen to while I’m running! Today was in the mid-40s but it’s supposed to warm up over the weekend. That’s coastal NC for you!

Reply

Soggy cereal is a must:) Especially FMW. I have some strawberry FMW that are going to meet their destiny tomorrow.

Beyonce’s Schooln Life (best line at the end: don’t stop running until it’s finished)
Rudimental’s Waiting All Night

It was “cold” here in N. Cali last week (low 30’s, high 50’s) so I used that as an excuse to keep it inside. I’m pretty much a wimp when it comes to the cold and I grew up in MI!:( temps are back to normal(low 40’s high 60’s) so tomorrow I’m getting my rear back in gear and heading outside:)

Reply

Ugh, I agree! I ran outside today for the first time in two weeks, and it was GLORIOUS.

Reply

haha a running UFO? yes, i also loathe indoor running. good on you for sticking to it anyways. hang in there!

Reply

You have been running several years more than me, but one thing I have learned that I really appreciate is the “stitch in time saves 9” concept. If you have not been loving running lately, maybe you should take a couple weeks off!! Sometimes taking 2 weeks off is 100% needed and a very good thing. When I have resisted taking time off because I have been thinking of the moment (I know is should do this or I can gut out 5 miles or whatever I tell myself) instead of the big picture (I do this because it is something I love) I usually end up regretting that I forced myself to do something instead of taking time off to let myself continue to love it. I dont know if that makes sense, but it might be a good idea to take a few weeks off before you start another training cycle. Besides, the buildup phase is the best part :)

Reply

Girl, you’re brave to run in the snow, I can’t handle that cold! It’s in the 50s in NC right now, I like my cereal crisp and my milk super cold so I eat it the second it hits the bowl. And my fav running song right now is Fall Down by Will.I.Am and Miley, it’s awesome.

Reply

I’m so glad I’m home now and not in Montana! I can handle 45 degrees. 10, not so much! ;) Brooke’s hair is SO LONG!

Reply

Here it’s a feels like of -17F with an actual temp of -2F… It’s COLD!!!!

Reply

Totally depends on the cereal. FMW…soggy, for sure. Yeah, it got all the way down to 57 this morning ;-). Keep your soul happy :)

Reply

You are right- running outside is sooo much better! We all need some fresh air every once in a while (or everyday!) Its in the 30s here in Baltimore so running outside isn’t too bad (except that the city does a terrible job clearing the sidewalks when it snows, and then it freezes and gets all icy)

Reply

I do speed work inside when it’s cold but long runs are always outside even negative windchill. Like you I just need to be outside! I ran the Santa Hustle yesterday it was cold and windy but the terrible part was they didn’t clear the roads so it was very difficult to run. I am very sore today .

Reply

Temps here are amazing, it is summer :)
I sort of like my cereal somewhere near the middle or more on the crispy side. But Ireally will eat anything at the end of the day. In fact, I just had cereal for lunch :)

Reply

Some days I like my cereal soggy and some days I like it crunchy and some days I like a mix. It also depends on the type. For instance Oatmeal Squares and other hearty cereals are good both soggy and crunchy but little cereals like Honey Nut Cheerios are best enjoyed crunchy I think. I am basically a cereal connoisseur I guess :) Who knew?!

I love running to Cups too!

Reply

I’m a non-soggy type of girl. I even drain the milk off the spoon before I take a bite.
My favorite running song lately…
Living on a Prayer- Bon Jovi. It’s a classic and always puts me in a good mode when I hear it.
I love running outside. It’s been around 30 here in Va.

Reply

It’s 10 degrees here right now and more power to you I don’t know how you run in those freezing temperatures! Right now we can’t run outside because it is too slick and neither of us can risk that coming off of injury!

Reply

I just can’t run inside, I go crazy. Its going to be in the 60s for the next three days before going back into the 20s, so I plan to take full advantage of not having to bundle up for my runs.

Reply

My cereal cannot be soggy, just a happy medium. :)
My fav song to run to is anything by Rihanna or anything by Jay-Z. And the temps are ranging around 60’s during the day, which in Texas is very cold. lol

Reply

I don’t put milk in my cereal! I can NOT stand anything soggy. Well, except for the bread/croutons that they put in French Onion Soup. I like that sogginess. My current favorite running song is Burn by Ellie Goulding. Please check it out. I think you might love it as much as I do!

Reply

Soggy, soggy for my cereal!! You are actually the only person I have ever heard of that likes it this way too! I intentionally choose cereal that I know will “sog” well (chex, fmw, and raisin bran are great for this!). Even when I was little, my mom would pour my milk a good 5 min before I came to the table so it would be perfectly soggy for me:)

I have been listening to a Christmas song playlist lately while I run. My current fave is “shake up Christmas”, by Train.

Good running temps here in NC…. Lows in the 30s, highs in the 50s!

Reply

Soggy cereal all the way! I let my FMWs “marinate” for a little while, also :)

I hear you about the joy of running outside…Running on the track at the Y (it takes 14 laps to make 1 mile…ugh) is killing me a little, but I can’t handle the sub zero temps we’ve had here lately. Any Other Way by We The Kings and Let it Go from the Frozen soundtrack are helping me to power through, at least!

Reply

I’ve been braving the cold winter runs myself because I hate the treadmill and I need to be outside! This is the first time I’ve done winter running, but so far, I’m loving it! I love the change and the new challenges that comes with running in the cold. But so far, I’m not running outside if it’s below 20!!! And I need some warmer gloves. :/
Songs on repeat: Gold Rush by Clinton Sparks, Hall of Fame by The Script, Timber by Kesha & Pitbull, I need your love by Calvin Harris.

Reply

Cereal needs to be not too soggy, not too crispy…I’m picky

Ugh, here in Chicago the windchill has kept it in the single digits and the snow has been a real drag. I’ve done some short treadmill runs, but I’m definitely not running the mileage I should be since I have a 1/2 marathon out in CO in February. Darn you Winter!

Reply

Cereal needs to be in the middle. I love my Kashi in the morning!

I’ve been running to Bach. I love running to classical music. I know, I’m boring.

It’s been cold here, but remember, it’s all relative! Cold here is 50 degrees (in the morning, it was upper 60’s by lunch time). I hate running below 70.

Reply

I love Mini Wheats! I actually get the non-name brand ones because they’re a little bit smaller and don’t take as long to get less than crunchy. I don’t quiet love them soggy but I don’t want them too crunchy either (its a difficult balance that often gets thrown off by having an 8 month old…:)

Reply

Oh my word!!!! The scenery in that last pic is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! :) (okay, maybe I’m a little wierd, but I LOVE the mountains! :))

I honestly don’t eat cereal, but when I did, soggy is the only way 2 go! ;)

I’ve been listening to ‘Running the Race’ (convenient 4 running, eh?). I love that song! :)

Wowzers! Compared to wherever you live, the temp is like summer, here! :) it’s in the sixties this week. :/ (I honestly wish it was lower!) :)

Reply

The temps here (MN) have been around or below 0 for the past couple of weeks. Running outside doesn’t seem like an option at this point! I help pass the time on the treadmill by watching episodes of Parenthood on Netflix :)

Reply

Crispy cereal – as in about 1/4 cup of milk per bowl ;)

Perfect weather here in Hawaii. Although it did rain a lot yesterday – as in pouring buckets while my husband was out on his bike. He came in dripping but smiling.

Reply

High of 66 here. It made for a great run. Anything below 60 is too cold for me! I just don’t care to run in anything but shorts and a tee. This has been my favorite running song these past few weeks. I start to run crazy fast! A kind of mix of a run and dance. ;=)

Reply

Cereal- crunchy! Sometimes I don’t even put milk in the bowl.
Weather- cold, snowy and icy.
Treadmill- SUPER boring…I know, I ran 18 miles on one yesterday! :p

I am so jealous that your cold weather has the beautiful backdrop of those mountains!

San Francisco: It’s been in the 60’s the past couple of days. Today is gorgeous and warm, too… but I have stupid finals to study for.
I can never really complain about weather (or talk about cold-weather-running gear… since I don’t actually know what cold weather is like, haha).

Reply

Opposite of you, I have to eat my cereal the second milk hits it!! It’s been Cheerios for me lately.

Love that Miss Jackson song, too! Latest fave songs: dirty paws by of monsters and men and Welcome Home by Radical something…. haha. Too tired to get up and look at my iPod. But anyway, lately I’ve been in to slower songs for my runs.

I’m in Florida but tonight its 50 degrees, and this is cold enough!

Glad you got yourself an outdoor run HRG! The outdoors always seems to fix a bad mood for me :)

Reply

I think she is trying to be you

I love being outside too! So good for the soul <3

I like the Treadmill sometimes though–it's fab for some quick HIIT sprints

Reply

Dude… okay – do you guys in Orem not have the bad air quality or am I missing something? I’m up here in Cache county – and with our air quality index – there is NO WAY I’m running outside. I’m 100% an outside runner, and today was beautiful – but Utah’s air quality sucks HORRIBLY. The past week or two we’ve been in the super unhealthy-do-not-go-outside-unless-you-want-to-ruin-your-lungs-for-life stage. I’ve heard of people who’ve gotten medical problems from being outside here in Utah and doing exercise (from riding mountain bike to running). We moved to Utah over a year and a half ago – and I’m sorry – but I’d trade weather anywhere for the air here in Utah. The picture you took is beautiful – but you should see the smog up here (and actually we were in SLC over the weekend and it was gross there, too). It’s disgusting and very sad!!! Utah is great, except in the winter when it should be fun – the pollution from the inversion is the worst.

Reply

The type of cereal definitely determines how long it soaks. I went through a phase with FMW where I let them soak for awhile and then only gnawed of the frosty parts.

Reply

The inversion didn’t bother you? I’m good down to about 16 degrees but the air is too bad for me to go out right now.

Cereal has to be crunchy and crisp. I could not let mini-wheats sit for two minutes, because I’d have eaten them all by then!

Reply

That’s definitely a UFO.

Reply

I ran 5 days inside on treadmill while my 2 year old plays because it was too cold to push her in jogger. I was dreading the runs. Then I was crazy excited this weekend ran 5 miles on beach!

Reply

I definitely like to let my cereal sit for a second before I start eating it so that its somewhat crunchy when I start eating but then soggy near the end – this is great with Cinnamon Honey Bunches of Oats!

Reply

i live in northwestern ontario…it has been in the -30s at night and -20s during the day. if i were a hardcore runner, i would not live here. most of my running takes place from april-october. but, believe it or not, we have some hardcore runners around. i have a friend who is currently training for a 50 mile run in the spring and then is planning to do a 100 mile run in the fall…CRAZY! i do not know how his lungs survive.

Reply

I have been doomed to the ‘mill for the past couple of months! I’m scared for when training starts up again next year!

Reply

Listened to Miss Jackson once and already share your obsession!!
Have a feeling this is going to be on repeat for the rest of the day haha.

Totally get your running rut when running inside is all you can do btw! Being outside is so much better & more entertaining etc.

Reply

I feel the same way! I have been dreading my runs until I took it outside on Sunday and loved every COLD minute of it!

I LOVE life cereal soggy!

Reply

I love crunchy cereal! I try to stack my FMW in a certain way and eat them from the bottom up so they never have the chance to do more than barely touch the milk. Is that weird?

It’s about 50 here and has been hovering between a low of 40 and high of 50 for weeks. I do miss snow but I’m a fan of this temperature range for running conditions so I suppose it’s okay :)

Reply

This post is exactly how I was feeling from December 4th – 15th. So cold (and icy) in Colorado forced me inside. I tried to run on the treadmill but have decided no more of that (I did it exclusively for 7 years — only venturing outside this summer). Now, I am an outdoor girl and I actually find the treadmill “injures” me. Never feel very good when I get off. I have decided to do the indoor track at my gym when it is too cold but right now loving going outside again. I need the fresh air! I hope it starts to warm up in Utah soon! Hugs!

Reply

Soggy cereal all the way!

I’ve been running inside and I really don’t mind it, but I think it’s because my other option is not to run. I can’t really risk running on the ice. Plus, I’ve been taking walks outside, too, with Bungee, so I’m not entirely stuck indoors.

Reply

Unfortunately it is -33C here in my part of Canada right now (which according to google is -27.4F). I won’t be running outside, but maybe snowshoe?

OMG i blogged about this EXACT thing on Sunday night…are we sould sisters or what? seriously my run on saturday was SOOO COLD but soooo completely worth it. A little part of me dies every time i climb on the treadmill and i just DONT get as good of a workout. i so stir crazy on it and i find nineteen different excuses to stop including shouting upstairs to my husband saying “honey did you say something” he usually hasn’t-its just me looking for an excuse to stop. Its bad, its real bad. I wanted to head out the door today but new england is getting wacked with a midday storm-usually when it snows around here, it isn’tquite so cold-but the weather was 0 this morning, and when i get home, snow will be falling on top of the icy roads. wahhhh it looks like yet another treadmill run for this girl.
WHERE ARE YOU SUMMER?

TOTALLY agree with you about treadmill vs. outside. I am going through that battle as well, with temps in my neck of the woods being 0-20 degrees lately.

I went outside for a run last night and it was amazing and wonderful and I love it so much more than the treadmill. It was a warm and balmy 36 degrees here!

never heard that song but I’m listening now and will be adding it to my playlist tonight =)

We are FREEZING! Our temp right now is 23 – and that is warm! We have either been in the single digits or below freezing! =)

Am I the only one that doesn’t really eat cereal? I never finish a box when I buy it so I stopped buying it. Haha.

I’ve been stuck on some grand old 70’s rock. “Jessica” by the Allman Brothers has been on every playlist lately!

I’m in the San Francisco Bay area, we’re a chilly (for us) 60* most days. But we’re looking to get a little warmer in the next few weeks here.

Glad to see you getting back out there, I can’t run inside for anything!

I am weird! I like the first half of my cereal soggy, and then I add more so I have crunchy on top! FMW… my favorite!

I am in Colorado Springs and it has been surpringsly warm! Last week we couldn’t break the negative temps, but now we have been in the 40s! 70 degrees makes a big difference, feels like summer now! LOL

I have been obsessed with Lady Gaga’s new song and Freaks by The Hawk in Paris

You’re a rockstar running outside in that weather!!

I like my cereal somewhere in the middle — not crispy, but not TOO soggy, ya know? :)

I rarely eat cereal, but when I do, it’s got to be crispy. I actually saw a bowl that I almost bought that lets you keep the milk and cereal separate until you’re ready to take a bite. Grape Nuts is the only exception. I don’t think it’s possible to eat that crispy without breaking a tooth.

We’re extremely lucky that it’s been in the high 60’s here. In the mornings it’s hovering in the low ’30’s — but that’s still totally runable.

My legs freeze and turn bright red when it is in the single digits–how do you keep your legs warm?!? I wear two pairs of pants and that doesn’t even help! I also don’t know how you are able to run so fast when it is that cold; my pace slows considerably.
