I broke the rules.

Most people open up their Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve.  We are switching things up over here and our tradition is to open up Christmas pajamas on December 17th…  Mainly I just wanted to see Brooke in these pajamas as much as possible before Christmas.

This is Brooke running away from me.

This is Brooke strutting her stuff.  She’s kind of a big deal.

DSC 8534

I actually put some preparation into a meal.  For lunch I made the two of us a big batch of quinoa and added chicken, steamed carrots, cranberries, two baked sweet potatoes and feta cheese.  We ate it in a wrap and it was delicious.

When I was doing some laundry Brooke disappeared and when I went looking for her I found her cuddling my dad as he was working.  It was almost too tender.

Dinner was at Pizzeria 712.

Pita and hummus, a sweet potato with delicious toppings and mac and cheese for appetizers.

The main event.

Actually this was the main event for me.

Running OUTSIDE today.  Hallelujah.

We did the Christmas pj tradition when I was growing up! And this year was the first with Noah, my nieces and nephews. So much fun :-) last dessert I had was a giant red velvet cupcake last night!

That lunch looks delicious! I eat quinoa all the time and usually add some potato, green bean, onion…. it varies actually.

I don’t have Christmas pajamas but have wanted some for a while now! Brooke’s are adorable!

I love the combo of feta or goat cheese with sweet potatoes! So yummy.

We don’t have a Christmas pj tradition in my family but I am definitely doing one when I have kids of my own :)

Reply

Oh Miss Brooke…you & that cute pose. I just adore you <3

Reply

I love the idea of Christmas pajamas, the only Christmas pajamas I wear are on Polar Express Day at work! :) Brooke looks adorable in hers, and so grown up too. And yum, love Root Beer Floats! Quinoa? Just tomatoes, nuts and onion I think.

Reply

Last dessert? A cookie. 45 minutes ago (7 am here). Breakfast dessert! No biggie, right? I always wear my Christmas pj’s- I love them! I have a set that my mom got me when I was 15 that is still holding up (I’m 29)- that are my ultimate favorite. Fleece snowflake jammies!

I don’t do a lot of quinoa, but when I do I go black beans, red onion, jalapeno, and lots of lime!

So jealous of your outside miles- I packed outdoor clothes today for running and I am hoping, hoping, hoping to get out there. It is supposed to be in the 30’s today here- so maybe some of the snow will melt and things will be slightly less treacherous.

Reply

Homemade apple pie. I made the most delicious quiona salad with butternut squash, kale, pomegrante seeds, and roasted walnuts. So yummy and colorful.
I love those jammies. Brooke is a natural runner already.
And ps yay for outside running!!!

Reply

I have not had a root beer float in FOREVER!! They are probably one of my favorite things!

I had frozen yogurt last night for dessert, and am feeling like tonight might be a great night to do some baking! :)

Reply

Last dessert I had was a piece of chocolate pudding cake!

We haven’t done the Christmas pajamas tradition in a couple of years. Then my 12 year old told me she wanted to do it again this year. I am now on the hunt for Christmas jammies.

I haven’t tried making quinoa yet. I bought some, but just haven’t made it…

Reply

Quinoa avocado and black beans go together like PB&J! Yay for running outside! If I wasn’t recovering from a marathon on Saturday, I would be running outside too. ;-)

Reply

I’m still waiting for our pajamas to come! We ordered them from Kohls on Black Friday and still haven’t received them! They did give us a $25 gift card for t hem being so late, but I just hope they get here by Christmas Eve! haha Last dessert I had was a cazookie the other night. Phenomenal.

Reply

I got my 17 mos old the same pajamas! We I opened them already so she could wear them for Santa pics. I love having her wear them, she is so cozy and cuddly!

Reply

I add black beans, tomato, and onions to my quinoa. I definitely want to start the Christmas pajamas when I have kiddos!

Reply

Mmm the quinoa looks good. I don’t eat it nearly enough. We don’t do the pj tradition but I always wear my pjs on Christmas Day… even now, at age 31, when I must drive with my husband 45 minutes to my parent’s house on Christmas morning. We both wake up, shower, put on our nicest pjs, and make the trip in our pjs. I love it!

Reply

No Christmas PJ traditions here, but I DO get Christmas socks in my stocking every year, if that counts :D It’s a good thing too, because I’ve been rocking my Santa socks so much this year that they’re starting to look a little worn out… Need to restock.

Reply

Good luck on the outdoors run! They really are the best! We were at 38F yesterday and I decided to ditch the tunes too and just enjoy not freezing.

Reply

My mom, sister and I always get matching pjs at some point during December and then all wear them chrustmas eve so we can be marchers on Christmas Day opening presents. Super cheesey and super awesome. Last night I made hot chocolate cookies and they were wonderful :)

Reply

It was 62 in Atlanta yesterday! I was SO, SO excited to get outside for a sunny run. I am asking Santa to talk to the Groundhog, and bring Spring early. I need some warm days.

And the pic of your Dad and Brooke–PRICELESS!

Reply

I had a dream last night that I was babysitting Brooke (I’ve accepted how creepy that is and I’m moving on). I kept saying she was an angel because she never cried and didn’t whine once!

Reply

Oh my gosh, that picture of brooke and your dad is so adorable! We had quinoa for dinner yesterday! We cut up veggies & scrambled some eggs and added it to quinoa and covered it all in soy sauce = quinoa stir fry!

Reply

My mom still gets Christmas pajamas for me and my sister that she gives us on Christmas eve. She has started getting them for my husband now too. I have dessert just about every night …last night was chocolate chip pound cake with ice cream!

Reply

I have never thought of having mac and cheese as an appetizer but it is obviously the best idea ever. Thank you for this important tip!

I guess I’m pretty boring and mostly just add quinoa to my salads. I need to branch out!

Reply

No, we don’t do the pajamas. I like that idea though! I like to cook my quinoa like oatmeal and add fruit, nuts, cinnamon and vanilla.

Reply

That root beer float looks divine. I really need to stop reading your blog before breakfast every morning :) It always makes me so hungry!

Reply

Love her Jammie’s! I had a peanut butter cookie last night!

Reply

I had an Oreo McFlurry from McDonald’s at 11 pm last night…while watching Home Alone 2. It was pretty spectacular.

Love Christmas PJs! My mom gets me “Christmas Eve” pajamas every year and I open them and wear them Christmas Eve night. Yes, I am 31 years old and we still do it. Now that Annabelle is here, she is on the fun. :)

Your lunch looks amazing. :)

Reply

Ahhh Brooke’s pajamas are the cutest! I love it. I’ve always thought you should open Christmas PJ’s before Christmas so you can enjoy them all month long, so good idea on that one.

Last dessert? Trader Joe’s Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s…those things are addicting, I tell ya.

Enjoy your run outdoors today!!!

Reply

I like cranberries and cilantro with my quinoa!

I am wearing PJ’s at work right now – thank goodness for PJ Day! So comfy

Reply

Brooke and your dad are too cute! That quinoa dish looks amazing!
The last dessert I had was ice cream :) or the hubby’s peppermint fudge (amazing!)
Some years we do the pj tradition, but not all.
I mix rotel, black beans, and corn in my quinoa. It’s awesome in a wrap, over nachos, or just plain :)

Reply

Whoa! Brooke really looks like your sister’s oldest daughter in her strutting photo. Cute!

Reply

No pajama tradition but I’m totally doing it with my future kids, it’s too cute! Last dessert was cookie dough ice cream last night! But craving a root beer float now so that may be in the cards this weekend.
I make my quinoa into Mexican flavors and add black beans, avocado, cherry tomatoes, corn, and chipotle chilis. We put steak in it and it’s like a healthy burrito night :)

Reply

I love how Brooke has so much personality already. I refuse to eat quinoa because it reminds me of rice and I don’t like rice haha. But my boyfriend loves it! He’ll put pasta, tuna, beans, crackers, soup, anything really on it.

Reply

I eat dessert every night but the last fab fab dessert I had was Linda’s fudge cake from Cheesecake Factory last week. I am due for another slice of cake any minute…I made quinoa this week to and usually add it to roasted vegetables and also love it mixed with sweet potatoes as well!

Reply

We do Christmas Eve pjs. I love getting new pajamas. I still need to go out and buy them for everyone. We had b-day cupcakes yesterday.

Reply

Have you gone to Cubby’s in Provo yet? (In that shopping center across from DI/the medical complex)? Go!!! We miss it a lot.

Last dessert I had were some GF Brownies! YUM!
We do the Christmas Pj’s in our house and I love it every year! So many Pj’s!

Reply

Okay, that picture of Brooke and your Dad, I almost cried. Sweetest thing ever and that would be the BEST Christmas card Ever!

We used to do the PJ thing when Kid was little but he’s now Big.

The last dessert I had was my homemade chocolate covered peanut butter bon bons and I promise, you would love them. I have to make about 100 dozen every year because everyone I have ever given them to request them, some even months in advance.

Favorite Quinoa Recipe:
I add tomatoes, cucumbers, goat cheese, then top with dill and a little olive oil. It is the best ever. My husband prefers it with feta but I think the goat cheese gives it a bit more kick. You really should try it.

Reply

I get pj’s for Christmas every year and I save them and wear them for the first time on New Year’s Eve, so I can wake up and lounge in them all day.

Reply

Brooke is so stinkin cute!

I had dryers peppermint ice cream last night. I love it, it’s only out during the holidays so I have to eat it all up before it disappears!

I have been doing the Xmas eve pjs for years. I even get my husband some pj bottoms….even though he NEVER gets me any. Lol, this year he swears he will get me some, but I’m not holding my breath.

Reply

omg that picture of brooke and your dad!!! Too sweet

Reply

We give our girls their christmas pajamas on thanksgiving night to kick off the christmas season and so that they get to wear them a bunch- then we make sure they’re washed and ready for Christmas Eve. Brooke looks super cute in hers!

Reply

I love the Christmas jammies tradition!! I love Christmas Eve a little more than Christmas Day I think. It’s so fun! Brooke’s are dang cute :)

Ok, so I’ve been wondering, isn’t the air quality hurting your lungs or affecting your outside runs at all? Or are you going up the canyon? I just know that running outside right now would make me not feel so awesome.

Reply

We do the Christmas PJ tradition! It’s one of my favorites. Have fun running outside!

Reply

Brooke is adorable!

I think you just helped me come up with my side dish for dinner tonight! I love what you did with the quinoa. I am thinking of doing just that or quinoa, shrimp, sautéed mushrooms and tomatoes with garlic.

Reply

I am OBSESSED with Christmas pajamas this year. I searched everywhere for cute matching pajamas for my two girls, and finally found adorable ones at Carters. They have been wearing them since the moment they arrived. Oh, yes, I am going to milk every last use I can out of these.

Reply

Way too cute! She just lights up my day with how adorable she is. ENJOY the outdoor run. How happy are you? I have had 3 this week and feel like a new person! We always got new PJs for Christmas. Last dessert I ate was a cookies + cream milk shake and I have not ever added anything to my quinoa and now that I see what you created, I feel like I have to try harder! Will be making that very soon.

Reply

Brooke’s PJs are so so cute! My family has always opened our new pajamas on Christmas Eve and I will definitely be continuing the tradition with my kids (when I have them)! So fun!

Reply

We broke the pj rule too! I wanted to see Mollie and Rory where them every day…I bought two pairs for each of them so they could alternate, I guess they have to come off to be washed or something.

Last dessert: Apple pie bread drizzled with caramel. Amazing!

Happy Wednesday! :)

Reply

I love Christmas jammies! I always buy polar fleece lounge pants from Old Navy every year and I never wait until Christmas Eve to wear them;) Love the pic of Brooke with your dad, so sweet:) The last dessert I had was at a restaurant 2 nights ago. A freshly baked chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of ice cream on top. Heavenly!

Reply

We did the Christmas PJs for a couple of years, but not recently.

The last dessert I had was muddy buddy mix that I made yesterday at lunchtime. It was great running fuel.

I’ve never made quinoa. I can’t say I’m much of a fan.

Reply

now i really wish i had some christmas pajamas, those are adorable. probably wouldn’t look nearly as cute on me seeing as that i’m not a toddler ;)

Reply

My parents never did the Christmas PJs thing! We always opened a present on Christmas Eve, but it was always something small like an ornament or a Beanie Baby. She’s too adorable!

Reply

That quinoa looks delish, I never think to make that but I need to start adding it to my grocery list!

My mom makes us open pajamas on the 24th because she wants us to look decent in the picture she takes Christmas morning.

Reply

I think breaking that rule is a good one. Especially if your pajamas are Christmas-y. She looks adorable.

I hope you enjoy your outdoor run today :)

Love that pic of Brooke and her gpa. I love baby cuddles.

Your quinoa looks really good I need to try that recipe.
The last dessert I had was freddys frozen custard last night on my way home from utah. My vacation is over. Back to the normal routine today. I miss my siblings. Loved spending time with them and being up there during Christmas time was such a nice change. (We r usually there In August). I actually started to get used to the cold (but not the scary ice on the sidewalks) that when we got home last night and it was 73 degrees I was sweating. (Im not saying that to brag about the weather here either, I was sincerely hot!)

Reply

Good lord i cannot wait to get out of work and RUN OUTSIDE…i’m way way too excited!
I do the Cmas pj’s for my stepdaughter-she loves them :) Thank you for reminding me bc ummmm…i haven’t bought them yet!!!!

Reply

SO MUCH CUTENESS! I actually have an awkward Christmas PJ story – the first year after my husband and I were married my mom-in-law gave me lingerie! I was expecting fuzzy PJs and I was mortified when I opened the box! Needless to say I always pack a spare pair of PG-PJ’s just in case!

Reply

Yum! That quinoa looks so tasty.

Reply

those pjs are so cute!
My last dessert would have to be the Christmas cookies I ate on Monday…tis the season, for sure!

Brooke is literally the cutest thing in the World!!

I absolutely love Xmas pajamas and I’m pretty sure my husband is getting me the pink striped ones from Victoria’s Secret this year that I wanted. I’m so excited!

Reply

My daughter has those pjs! I got them for her last year for Christmas eve. So yeah, I guess we got a pj tradition. My mom and my sister has an ugly slipper tradition. My mom always gives my sister the ugliest slippers she can find. She’s gotten some seriously ugly ones!

Reply

Brooke is too sweet! Love those pj’s :)

Reply

I like that quinoa combo. You can add anything and every meal can be different with a quinoa base or you could even use rice. Great idea to get started on wearing the Christmas pj’s early!

Reply

I have never had quinoa but dangggg that looks delicious!

Our Elf on the Shelf brought my daughter those pajamas this year and she wears them every night! Very cute!

This quinoa is to die for…you have to try it: http://karainthekitchen.com/california-quinoa-salad/
It makes a ton, so be prepared to feed a crowd or eat it all week long :)

Reply

Christmas pajamas are acceptable once the tree is up, music is being played, and cookies are being baked. <– fact.

Reply

Ya for running outside! The food looks yummy by the way!

Reply

My last dessert was French Toast Bread Pudding from Outback for my birthday tonight! I have opened my Christmas pjs early a few times in the past. We always open one present Christmas eve and my sister likes to get my pj pants and inevitably gets me to open that one present! I like sauteed mushrooms and kale with my quinoa!

Reply

I had part of a sweet potato scone tonight for dessert.
We usually do Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve, but I can see why you gave Brooke’s to her early. Love.

Reply

Brooke is so adorable, and those pjs are pretty cute as well! I’m so thankful after almost a week straight of snow we finally are warming up and the roads aren’t pure ice anymore!

Reply

I got V PJ pants, now that he is a big kid..I doubt I will be able to buy full sets of PJs ever again

Reply

My mom has gotten my sister and I PJs for Christmas Eve ever since we were born, but since I don’t really wear PJs on any day other than Christmas she has gotten me running shorts to wear instead :)

Last dessert was toast with cream cheese and chocolate syrup. It worked.

Reply

My roomie and i made quinoa with pearl onions, brussels sprouts, and goat cheese last night– soooooo good!

Reply

You opened up the Christmas pyjamas early? Oh, you rebel you! ;-) We usually get new pyjamas for Christmas but to be honest we usually don’t open them till Christmas day and then we make a point of wearing them for New Year’s Day.

Reply

I’ve only made quinoa once! I added black beans, corn, and avocado… it was delicious! The last dessert I had is a peanut blossom cookie – my fave!

Reply

LOVE Quinoa I do so much with it. Add it (cooked) to the bottom of a dish to make an egg quiche.
Make an asian dish w/cabbage, peppers, onions , soy & sesame oil. (can even add scramble egg to this)
make mexian dish w/black beans, chili powder, tomatoes, onions, diced chili peppers
Make ‘risotto’ with suateed onions, diced tomatoes and then mix all together w/Parm cheese. So soo good!

Reply

We get our Christmas pjs on thanksgiving so we can wear them all December long. :) it’s one of my favorite traditions.

Reply

I’ve been making quinoa porridge (like oatmeal). 1/2 cup quinoa flakes, rinsed under water in a fine mesh sieve to remove the soapy coating + 1.5 cups milk/water, then add whatever you want to flavour it. My last bowl had some finely diced apple, desiccated coconut, vanilla essence, cinnamon, flaked almonds and honey.

Reply

I don’t love quinoa but I do think it looks great with all of the other “stuff” mixed in, yum!
