Double digits during a snow storm with 42 people.

It is a good thing that I didn’t look out my window this morning before getting in my car to leave for my run because if I had the odds are I would have put my sleep mask back on.  The warm bed would have won.  I don’t actually use a sleep mask but it just sounded cool.  Maybe I will though.

Once I got to the meeting spot I was excited (as I was driving there I was the opposite of excited) to run double digits in the freezing temps.

The reasons that I got excited:

IMG 5880

It has been way too long since I have gone running with some of my favorite human beings.

A few of us met for 4 miles and then the rest of the group showed up and we did 7 more.  I am still kicking myself for not wearing some really awesome Christmas themed outfit.

I have no idea how that guy ran in a tank and shorts.

IMG 5908

It snowed almost the entire run (especially in the canyon) and we determined that every mile you run in the snow (or sand) equals 2 regular road/treadmill miles.   It was a blast (but really hard) and I hope we keep doing this together this winter.

IMG 5882

Running in the snow makes my ankles sore and I did take one fall but considering how often I fall that is pretty good.

I went straight from the run to this:

IMG 5884

My sis and her husband put together a big donut, hot chocolate and pajama party.  The chocolate ones were the best.

IMG 5889

How Brooke eats her donuts.  Not a bad method in my humble opinion.

IMG 5906

When Brooke took a nap I went to meet up with some friends for lunch.  This may look like a salad but really it is two buffalo chicken tacos topped with a ton of lettuce, pico and chips from Tacos 180.  I don’t know why I have a Golden Retriever calendar on my tray either.

IMG 5909

We hit up the mall for some last minute shopping with my mom and brother.

IMG 5929

Those cheeks.

And tradition #21 was watching Elf with peppermint ice cream (buy some before they don’t sell it anymore) at my sister’s house with everyone.

That picture of Brooke eating her donut is priceless! Looks like a good method, to me! Way to go on your run. Last weekend, I ran a marathon in SUPER cold wind, but I cannot imagine running in that much snow. :) On the agenda for today, baking, Christmas lights and gingerbread houses! Yes, a full and fun day.

My favorite part about Sunday’s is enjoying the relaxing morning…coffee, run, breakfast. I don’t have to rush and it’s my day to relax and unwind.
I have one more Christmas gift to get and hope to be done by tomorrow! I was very last minute this year.
Last place I went out to eat was Brio, an Italian restaurant that opened near me. It was pretty good :)
Happy Sunday!

That run looks crazy cold! I wish I was finished… Still have one more thing to get for my mom. Last place we went out to eat was freebirds and it was amazing!!! Have a great Sunday!

Some of my favorite runs last year during marathon training were with 18+ in of snow on the ground. I had to do some research to find out which suburbs around us clear their paths (two do and one don’t), but it was worth it for a beautiful, peaceful run.

Looks like a fun run! Best part about Sundays, relaxing and watching Ravens football :-). Added bonus today: Girl’s Christmas Brunch! Have a great day!

Saw Frozen last night. I was excited because of your recommendation. It was so good.

I love the post race donuts. We were trying to come up with a fun run, like a Color Run and I said how about a Donut Run. Mud Run, Zombie Run, Donut Run.

I have bought a few things for Christmas, but I’m going to have to buy more stuff tomorrow!

Last place I went out to eat was The Works, which is a great burger place in Ontario

Oh, those cheeks! LOVE them. What a fun run for you all. Looks beautiful. I love Sundays because I go to church, which I love, and then we watch football & cook/bake for the week. Last place I ate was a Greek Grill and it was delicious. Love me some Greek food. Happy Sunday, Janae!

I watched Elf as well last night :) I haven’t ran during a snowstorm yet this season but I am sure that will happen soon as I live in southern Manitoba. ;)

retriever calendar is very random. my favorite thing about sundays is family!

Running in the snow is no joke! We had snow all week and it was freezing, but today it’s over 60 degrees so it’s all melted! Instead of running in the snow, I think we will be running in the mud…

Last week I literally went to the mall and decided I was not leaving until I had gotten any and all Christmas presents. It worked and I am done with Christmas shopping.

I hated running in the snow in Oswego and upstate NY. You really have to realize that your pace is going to be much slower. (It was fine though and a good excuse).

Love that picture of Curly!

Favorite part of Sundays is waking up a little later and running and being able to just come home and relax after. It’s usually movie night for me and my husband so it’s my most relaxed day :)

Reply

My favorite part of Sunday is Sunday morning breakfast. I love sleepign in and then having a big feast to start the day :) I may have to steal Brooke’s donut eating method…its adorable and doesn’t get her fingers dirty, she’s a genius.

The last place we went out to eat (I think..) was Clyde’s in Ashburn, Virginia for Thanksgiving dinner. Amazing food and incredible servers!

Sundays are kind of just another day here, since my hub and I both work from home. Our weekends are sometimes weekdays and we swap a weekday for a weekend day when we need to do so.

Today, though, I’m looking forward to pancakes, making muffins, and hitting up the beach for some hang out time…even if it’s just in the car watching the wind, waves, and rain.

My favorite part of Sundays is church and family dinner tradition : )

Reply

Wow. You’re amazing. I would never have been brave enough to run with all that snow!
I need to go to the mall today to finish my shopping. I couldn’t do it all with the baby yesterday. Wayyyy too hectic.
Favorite part of Sundays is long runs and play day with my one year old all day long. Best part of everyday.

Reply

I have yet to run in snow, except for the start of snow which doesn’t count since there was none on the ground…Last restaurant I ate at was Andrea’s 25 and it’s amazing, quality and I guess one could call it fancy Italian food. Dessert was zeppolis stuffed with oreos topped with chocolate and powdered sugar on top. I still prefer chocolate cake but these were pretty delicious!

My favorite part about Sundays is relaxing, going to church, and spending time with family. Hard to beat that! I am done with all of my Christmas shopping, but I still need to finish wrapping!

Reply

I love lazy Sunday mornings. I spend my time relaxing and it’s so nice. I did finish my Christmas shopping, but I’m hoping to go to the mall just to walk around and see the hustle and bustle of people :)

Haha, I have that ice cream too, love it. Had some last night!

We went to some hole in the wall Mexican restaurants at night, it was meh. Nothing exciting.

Omg, that guy running in shorts and a tank……how was he at the end???

Today I need to finish my baking (3 more cookie batches) and then clean house. Fun times, lol.

Have a great Sunday!

So my muscles refuse to do anything I tell them to when I’m cold — how was that guy in the shorts even able to move?! Mind boggling.

Best part about Sunday? Going over to my parents’ place for dinner. Nothing like spending time with family and getting to enjoy Mom’s cooking :D

Your run looks so fun! I am running a jingle bell 5k today and wishing I had a fun holiday outfit;)

Also I think it is important to have a golden retriever calendar. I wish I would randomly find one on my tray!

Reply

We watched Elf yesterday too! Always cracks me up.

Favorite part of sunday: breakfast in bed.

Finished xmas shopping: almost.

I feel kind of wimpy because last time I ran in snow I only got in 3 miles because my ankles were killing me! And you did 11! Way to go :-)

Reply

That’s so interesting about running in snow! I grew up in Florida, I can whole heartily attest that running in soft sand is the absolute worst, but I have never run in snow before and had no idea it was so hard!

That picture of Brooke is just too much ;)

Reply

Brooke owned that donut! Good girl! ;) And GREAT job running in that cold!! I’m sure running with friends helps. I still need to get myself to join a running group and quit making excuses…And if it’s below 20 degrees, I’m hitting the treadmill!

Reply

Yesterday I went to eat at my favorite restaurant, Stones Deli! They have all these gourmet sandwiches. I didn’t shop as much as I’d like but I’m all done. My favorite part of Sundays is pancakes!

Reply

Ate pho last night before going to a production of “the Nutcracker (Terracotta Prince)”. It was really cool when they did the acrobatics and dangerous stunts.

I love peppermint ice cream. I really should go buy some before it’s gone.
Have a lovely Sunday!!

My favorite part of Sundays is sleeping in:)

You know how people take yearly pictures of their kids in the same chair or next to the same stuffed animal to see how they have grown and look back to simply smile at the simplicity of it all……YOU SHOULD TOTALLY do that with Brooke and her eating a donut face planted like that….Yea, I am a little odd that way but I think it would be hilarious and adorable to look back on about 15 pictures like that….especially when she is 15 ~ 18 ~ or 21. ;-)

Just a thought…new Christmas tradition maybe?

Reply

I love this idea so much! Thank you!!!!! I’m totally going to do this!

Reply

Your run sounds awesome but tough! I guess falling in the snow is better than on pavement right? Also, that ice cream looks amazing, I hope they have it in my grocery store.
I did finish my Xmas shopping but a bunch of my gifts got lost in transit so now I a scrambling to get it all figured out….really annoying!

Reply

The run in the snow sounds awesome, especially with so many people!!
I have not finished christmas shopping but I am planning in shopping today and tomorrow.
Last place I went to eat us in Tempe it is called herbs n flavor. It is kind of different but really good and fresh tasting.

Best part about Sundays…. sleeping in! Seriously since I arrived home to NY I’ve been sleeping 12 hours a night… body is officially in vacation mode. Wishing you & Brooke a very Merry Christmas filled with lots of peppermint icecream! The best!

Reply

Hahaha, the picture of Brooke eating the donut is totally cracking me up! She is adorable! Do you wear Yaktrax at all? They really help me not to fall in ice/ snow (at least most of the time!)

Reply

I definitely laughed out loud at how Brooke eats her donuts. Hahaha! Smart kid who has clean, nonsticky fingers ;) I can’t imagine running outside with a bunch of snow on the ground. I think I’m just wimpy, but brrrrrrr!

Reply

I love the way Brooke eats her donuts, it’s very smart…she won’t have sticky hands afterwards ;). My favorite part about Sunday’s are spending time with my family without thinking about checklists or things I have to get done. I rest on the Sabbath day and usually try not to cook at all :). My Christmas shopping is done and all the gifts are wrapped. The hubby has to put Izzy’s kitchen together still, but were just throwing a sheet of wrapping paper over that one. Last place we went out to eat at is Chipotle.

Reply

My friend invited me to go to Saturdays run, totally bummed I couldn’t make it…I got the flu earlier in the week and Saturday was my first day back running…my easy 4 mile run at the gym wasn’t very easy! We are in Herriman :)

Reply

Pancakes and eggs for Sunday breakfast! Yummmmm :)
Also, I watched a movie yesterday that I thought you might enjoy, “Desert Runners.” It’s about ultra marathon runners. So inspiring!

Reply

Shorts and a tank top, holy icicles! What was he thinking?

My favorite part of Sundays is watching a movie with my son and the hubby and the two babies, I mean, dogs.

I finished my Christmas shopping but I could always do more. (I might have a little problem with shopping, just maybe)

The last place we ate out was…The Peirogi Grill, I highly recommend it, but it’s in Clearwater, Florida so you’d have to take a little trip. Totally worth it though!

Reply

That snow run looks so fun! I’m flying home tomorrow for Christmas and CANNOT wait to have a few good runs in the snow with friends! :)

Reply

We are on our FOURTH half gallon of that peppermint goodness! Our absolute favorite ice cream.

Church on Sundays = the best – especially today with the children’s Christmas program.

All gifts are bought and wrapped.

We ate at Siam Garden (Thai food) last night for the first time. It was fabulous and I’m happy about all the leftovers we brought home.

Reply

No rushing, a fluid and flexible schedule.
Christmas shopping done.
Just going to wrap and watch some football today.

I still have a few more presents I need uh oh haha!

Wow, that is amazing that you all ran in that weather!! I would probably have whimped out, but I’m not used to snow so you know. I have an excuse? :/ I finished my Christmas shopping early this year, yayyy!! :D Now I just have a few more to wrap. My dad got us all peppermint ice cream, and ohhhhh my gosh, I am ADDICTED. It is just too good!

My favorite part about Sundays is getting to be lazy at home with my family. Naps and football don’t hurt either.

We went Christmas shopping yesterday too. It was crazy out. So many people doing last minute shopping. It feels good to get it done and have everything wrapped!

We had friends visit this weekend and we decided to go to the mall- WHOOPS forgot it was only a few days away from Christmas so it was SO CROWDED!

My favorite part about today is cleaning up our house and then relaxing- having 3 extra guests in a 1 bedroom apartment can get a little crazy! haha

Almost done with the shopping! Seriously, just a couple of finishing touches and I’m DONE!

We ate at Lupe Tortilla a couple of days ago and I’m already counting down till I go back! So good!

Reply

We don’t really go out to eat much here in England. British food = No Bueno! It’s funny that Brooke eats her donuts like that– Fiona does the same thing with a lot of her foods. Like she can’t stand having sticky fingers afterwards or something. Love the snow run– we are still just in rainy season here.

Reply

Having my daughter home from college is the best part of my Sunday. Although she is already out with friends. I also had a great 10 mile run with 2 wonderful ladies.
Christmas shopping has been done and wrapped for a week.
We had lunch yesterday at a great Mexican restaurant, Taqueria La Venadita. It is always great.

Reply

So much fun running in the snow:) Loved it!! we need to do this again durning the Christmas break, or at least some indoor track stuff so we can eat more cookies;)

I don’t know of any other way to eat a donut than how Brooke eats hers :)

Amen to the snow/sand rule! It makes your ankles so sore!!

Reply

We ate at the mall food court last night after traveling – I guess that was the last place I ate because we stayed in today! Looks like a very cold but awesome run!

Reply

I am so glad to be totally done with Christmas shopping. And while I respect Brooke’s donut eating method, I hope she will soon learn that eating with your hands means you get to lick your fingers, which is the best part and is only acceptable under the age of 12.

Reply

Your run looked awesome! I FINALLY ran again after 3 months (stupid bilateral runner’s knees) and I was so excited, even though I was way more out of shape than I realized.

Reply

My favorite part about sunday is the rest part but here it is 7pm and this is the first rest ive had all day. I’m so tired! (Ok its now 9:47 and im finishing up this comment because I wss interrupted from my rest again.)

I still have a few things to buy for Christmas but they aren’t major, just neighbor gifts. I still have to wrap gifts though..

To have that many people to run with looks like so much fun! Did your sister run with you too?

I should pick up some of that ice cream for my husband, he would love it!
Last place we went out to eat was a German restaurant, so yummy!

Reply

my sunday was spent baking at my in laws. we had a major ice storm and power was knocked out at our place for over 16 hours. they had power for most of the day and then they lost it for awhile but they are a dairy farm and have a generator to run it so we were good.

Reply

What a great day! That definitely looks like a taco salad and not 2 separate tacos haha.

Reply

I amazed myself and got my Christmas shopping done early!! Truly great feeling :)

Reply

So many props for getting out there for DOUBLE DIGITS in the snow! And Brooke, you are one smart lady with those donuts. Keep your fingers clean and sticky free!

My littlest eats donuts the same way :) I love Elf. That movie helped me pick my hip doc. Who needs research when you have Buddy the Elf?
