Friday started off with a treadmill run and it felt like my eyes didn’t even open up until I hit mile 3.  I ended up with 7.63 miles in 60 minutes and jumped off the treadmill as fast as possible to get ready for a day spent in Salt Lake City with all of my siblings, parents and some extended family members too.

Oh Curly.

Brooke got a new purple coat that I am pretty excited about.

My brother says that he can’t physically resist shaking a tree covered in snow.  The temptation is just to great for him and I ended up with an inch of snow on my head.

He also can’t be out in the snow without a snowball fight.

For lunch we went to one of my favorites.  This place specializes in rolls (with the best honey butter) the size of Brooke’s head.

My meal (Brooke stole all of my broccoli and frosting from my cake… good thing she is cute) along with two rolls that were gone so fast that I couldn’t even get a picture of them.

Tradition #20 was walking around Salt Lake City to see all of the sights.

By the end we were frozen (ps you really need to go see the movie Frozen, you will laugh and cry and laugh again).

Rachelle organized a Christmas run for a big group of Utah Country runners this morning.  Back to my favorite sport of running outside with other human beings and catching up on their lives since it seems like we all went into treadmill hibernation since winter came along.

I hope your Saturday is perfect.

It has been tempting to hibernate so far! It’s been so much colder than usual in WI. I’m hoping to get outside soon though because I’m getting restless just running on the treadmill all the time. Brooke is such a cutie! What a beautiful backdrop and city to peruse. So beautiful.

The photos almost make me miss living in Utah. I’ll gladly take coastal Washington life, but I’m grateful that Susanna was born in Utah.

I’m thinking of making the kids tree ornaments rain boots next year, and found bee hive buttons that I might use so we honor our time in Utah. My hub’s face lit up when I showed him!

Today is just splendid. The rains have lessened, the winds are a bit less intense, and there will be time for making granola and cookies after a swim.

I’ve definitely been guilty of going into hibernation mode… but it’s just so hard to get motivated to go outside and freeze my digits off when it’s so warm and cozy inside… and there are cookies :D

Happy Saturday, Janae!

I haven’t had a chance to comment in a while but have been wanting to say you and Brooke seem like you are doing really well with all the changes in your life. I love your Christmas traditions! I am so impressed how you just keep on truckin’ whatever comes your way. Have a wonderful run today! It is unseasonably warm on the East Coast so I am going to squeeze in as much time outside as possible:)

Our family is all 3000 miles away this Xmas so we have a skype date tonight with them all since they’ll be at my in-laws for an early Xmas celebration. I love that picture with Curly being silly and the black and white of you and Brooker! I love how close your family is, it reminds me of mine and it makes me miss my three brothers so very much. This Christmas will be lonely without them.

The food looks amazing, I’m so hungry right now. We woke up this morning and realized the refrigerator had been left open all night so all our food was warm. I woke up the kids saying lets go downstairs and help me makes pancakes, eggs and bacon…and then that happened. Have spent an hour throwing out stuff and cleaning out the fridge. My husband just left to go get us some breakfast tacos. Not a great start to a Saturday morning. Hope your weekend is amazing girl!

I ran 8 miles with some friends this morning in 70 degree weather. The weather is nuts down south!! We had on tanks with shorts and were sweating.

It is unseasonably warm here! I think it hit 70°!
I wasn’t planning on running today. I knew it would be a really difficult day because it was my friend’s funeral. She passed away last wednesday at just 23 years old due to complications of her cystic fibrosis. It was a very interesting experience…her family didn’t call it a funeral but a “celebration” of her life. Everyone shared stories and sang songs. Her brother even offered to help counsel those of us who might be feeling angry or upset. For the first time since my mother’s death last year I really felt connected with Jesus and comforted by my faith. I expected to leave feeling depressed but I actually felt better.
I laced up my shoes and hit the pavement. It wasn’t easy. It hurt and I felt winded from crying, especially when I passed my friend’s house. But I kept going becausen Krysten can’t and she never could. I ran for her today. It wasn’t a perfect run with perfect times but it meant something special to me.
If anyone reading this would like to, please feel free to dedicate a run to my friend Krysten. She was one of the kindest and strongest people I know. She truly loved and accepted everyone. I was blessed with her friendship for 14 years and this year she has gone to spend Christmas with Jesus himself.
I apologize for rambling, I only meant to tell you about my run. You and your family look so happy. Enjoy every moment together :)

I don’t think I could share my broccoli! You & Brooke are adorable :)

I think I really need to visit Salt Lake City someday – it looks beautiful! Glad to see you enjoying time with your family and that you’ve fully recovered from your food poisoning! I had a lovely start to my Christmas holidays from work with a traditional afternoon tea with a close friend (though we had it in the evening), then today I had some hot chocolate and present exchange with my best friend in the whole world and a Strictly Come Dancing finale party with my mum at night. Perfect weekend so far. :-)

You and Brooke look so great in the pictures with the snow!!!

I love Temple Square during the holidays! One year my hubby and I happened to be in SLC Christmas shopping and saw a lot of commotion there. We walked over and found out that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was having their Christmas concert that afternoon. We asked about tickets, but told that there weren’t any available, but that we should stand by the steps and someone would eventually come by with extras to give away. We stood on the steps for a few minutes and scored two. It was an absolutely amazing Christmas concert and we were so lucky to be there that weekend!

I love the black and white picture of you and Brooke!
