Monday Randomness and moving my legs kind of fast again.

Daylight savings messed up our perfect schedule that the Brookers and I had so she woke up a little bit before I got home from my run this morning.  My mom said that when Brooke came upstairs she insisted on watching out the window for me to come up the hill.

Gotta love morning hair.

Today I got my legs moving again.  I am glad I have learned over time to slowly ease back into training after a hard race.  There is no rush.  Let your body recover because it takes longer than you think it will to get it back to normal.  Give it time.

Progression run—>  8, 8, 7:50, 7:50, 7:25, 7:25, 7, 7:45 —->  8 miles total.

It was 29 degrees during my run.  Look forward to tomorrow’s post because it is all about how to keep your training going strong during the winter months.  Don’t let something like ‘almost freezing to death’ keep you from running.

Time for some randomness:

1.  My dad brought me this file this morning.  It says, “Pictures purchased from Janae when she was selling them outside her door in St. George– I was her only customer.”

Back in the good old days I would set up a little art booth outside of my bedroom door and sell my paintings.  My dad is not exaggerating, he was my only customer (please note that 7 people lived in the house at that time.  I may still be a little mad at them).

It makes me so happy that he has kept them for over 20 years.

2.  How to perfect your chocolate chip cookie exactly the way that you want it.  I have always wondered how each ingredient changes the cookie.   I prefer the kind labeled with ‘more flour.’  What about you?

Screen Shot 2013 11 04 at 9 32 32 AM

3.  While we are talking about sugar…  My good friend from Germany sent me all of the best German candies.  German candy + Parenthood + my couch + the softest blanket in the world = my night from here on out.

DSC 7601

4.  CURLY IS 5 YEARS OLD TODAY!?!?!?!

Picture from Christmas 2012.  She is quite the dancer.

Screen Shot 2013 11 04 at 9 50 12 AM

Bffs for life.

IMG 3201

5.  I really could live off of our grocery store’s salad bar.

IMG 3207

6.  And 7-11 hot chocolate (because they have little marshmallows).

IMG 3208

7.  Those are snowflakes in Brooke’s hair.  It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Zach has a November birthday! November 11, 11/11. I used to always say “make a wish” when any clock showed 11:11, so I like to say it was meant to be. ;)

That’s adorable!

That’s so sweet! My fiancé has that same birthday! It was extra cool in 2011.. I consider it lucky!

I always close my eyes and make a wish at: 1:11 or 11:11. I have no idea why I started doing that. Funny that you do the same thing! My car odometer recently turned to 111,111 while my husband and I were driving and I thought I was going to lose my mind! It is just a funny thing I do I guess…

November 11 birthday here… and it was always a day off of school since it is Veteran’s Day! I’m sure I thought that day was just for me when I was little :)

Hi Janae!!! I have a November birthday….and it is TOMORROW!!!!:)

Also…I live in Nebraska and it can snow A LOT, I am excited to read about running in the cold weather!!

Reply

Aww those pics you made are adorable!

And those chocolate chip cookies made me so hungry!! I love that little diagram. I might have to experiment to figure out what way is my favorite!

Reply

OOh I love my chocolate chip cookies fluffy and soft!! The best recipe I have ever used came from your blog :)

I live in MN and it can snow a lot, but our winters are usually freezing cold with really, really, really cold wind chills :(

Reply

Ritter Sport Knusperflakes bars are the BEST!! I always stock up when I go to Germany for work. SOOOOO GOOD!

Reply

Oh my gosh, that chocolate chip cookie thing is amazing! From the looks of it, my favorite kind is the one labeled “both”. I like mine slightly gooey and soft. Yummm now I want a chocolate chip cookie.

It does snow here. Last year we had a blizzard with three feet of snow. That is three feet more than I ever want.

Reply

– I’m not gonna lie… I don’t miss the snow yet. Not until I start listening to Christmas music at Thanksgiving will I miss the snow.

– My run this morning was also easy. I was just going to walk since I’m still healing (my baby is 7 weeks old), but my legs just want to run these days. So I did an easy 2.4 miles.

– Love the cookies post. I love them all in their own special way. :)

I have a November birthday!!! It is on Sunday (the 10th). It’s my sweet 16, and I’m celebrating with a Friendsgiving with all of my bests! (food+friends=awesome). I’ll also be celebrating the day of with a good run and a shopping spree at Lululemon!!

We are lucky if we get one snow day here in Tennessee.. and I definitely prefer a chewy, gooey chocolate chip cookie. No hard rocks for this girl.

My run today was non existent. I’m taking a few days off after the cross country season ended. I will go to a spin class tonight though before our XC end of season dinner!
Happy Monday!

My Birthday is the 29th, I refuse to discuss Christmas until December 1st! I like chewy chocolate chip cookies, my Mother always made the best ones when we were kids. And yes to the snow, we’ve been snowed in here the last 3 winters as we live halfway up a steep hill which is impassable after a bit of snow, at least the walk to school for my boys is through the woods so we see some nice scenery when we have to do it!

Reply

My favorite chocolate chip cookies are made with wheat flour! So light and fluffy! My grandma is the best!

My run felt really good today at the beach. The best place for me to run is at beach listening to the sounds of the waves! It’s amazing!

Reply

It snows A LOT in Boston.

I like the “Dough Chilled”-looking cookies.

I didn’t run today after a race yesterday… taking it a bit easy for a Half this coming Sunday.

I love salad bars!

(I’ve said “I” a lot here).

Reply

Wait… How did I not know 7-11 has marshmallows? I may have to abandon my gas station I go to every morning in favor of the 7-11 up the road. I love grocery store salad bars. So. Good. Winter running is cold but I just tell myself it’s temporary and I’ll warm up fast once I’m moving. And then you get to refuel with hot chocolate which is always nice.

Reply

I like my chocolate chip cookies “crunchy”

Reply

That’s so fun that your dad saved those pictures for you!
I think the cookie labeled ‘chilled for 24 hrs’ looks perfect. But who can keep cookie dough in their fridge for that long??

Reply

Tempo run today.

No birthday in Nov, :-(

We live in San Diego….no snow here! Summer is the only season. I miss snow!

Reply

I’m in Mississippi, so snow is a rare occurrence…and when we get it, it’s usually the slushy, yucky, messy kind. I live Winters through the photos of others :)

Reply

I cannot believe it is already snowing there! Snow is a rarity in TX so we get real excited when that actually happens. I taught spin today but I will run tomorrow. Have a good evening!

Reply

I’m in ohio, so sometimes it snows a lot, sometimes it snows a little and sometimes not at all.

I prefer my chocolate chip cookies exactly as described on the nestle choc chip bag.

I did my first yasso 800 workout. 4×800 with 4 minute recovery and 15 minute warm up and 10 minute cool down for a total of 5.5 miles.

Reply

It does not snow in San Francisco but I love that beautiful Tahoe is only 3 hours away! Yipppeeee!

I think I like the ‘more flour’ and the ‘dough chilled 24 hours’ cookies.

Brooke’s morning hair is amazing!

Reply

My parents bdays are both on the 7th and Hubby turns 30 on the 19th!!!

Reply

My bday is nov 7th! i was born 11/7 1987 at 11:07 PM! (7 is kinda my lucky number ;)

Reply

Ross went to that salad bar the other day for lunch and even HE said how good it was. Now that is saying something. Not sure I can forgive him for going without me though. I need to try it!

I saw a similar cookie picture a couple of years ago and ever since then I always add a tad more flour to any recipe because that is how I like them too :) And now I think I need to make some because that sounds fantastic!

I am not sure what is cuter – Brooke waiting for you by the window with her bed head, or you selling your pictures and your dad keeping them. Both make me smile.

Way to go on your own. I am even more impressed that you went in the cold. I am such a wuss. I can run when it is cold as long as the sun is up. Ha! My run was short (still sticking between 2-3) and sweet, but I loved it. Did some turbo kick and weights too.

Happy Birthday to Curly!

Reply

Yeah, we usually get a good amount of snow here in NH, and the Farmer’s Almanac is saying it’s supposed to be colder and snowier than usual this winter! We got a few snowflakes last week, but nothing that’s stuck to the ground yet.

I think I prefer the baking powder cookies. I like them thick and chewy.

Reply

Awwww… happy birthday to Curly! And LOVE Brooke’s bedhead :)

I prefer chocolate chip cookies that I can EAT. I have way too many food intolerances and finally have created/adapted a recipe (it’s on my blog) that makes amazing chocolate chip cookies that are gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, and potato-free (lots of GF flours use potato starch and I can’t eat potatoes anymore…WAAAAAHHHH!!!!). They mostly look like the “both” “brown sugar only” ones in that photo. But I love that they taste and feel like REAL chocolate chip cookies.

We get NO snow…which really bums out my kids who got to see snow for the first time back in April. Well, two of them saw snow 9 years ago but the others had NEVER seen it. EVER. I miss snow. Sometimes.

Reply

My birthday is November 30 and my husband is November 16.
Lots of celebrating this month.

Reply

So this is really weird, but I actually don’t like chocolate chip cookies. I do like other kinds though! On our birthdays, my grandma always makes a little bag of chocolate chip cookies, but for me they buy me a bag of dinner rolls from the grocery store because I LOVE bread and could easily eat only bread forever.

Reply

Omg i used to set up an art booth too and my cousins and i would sell our art to my grandparents neighbors haha. So cute that your dad saved it all!! :)

Reply

The melted butter and dough chilled 24 hours look the best to me :)

Reply

It does not snow at all here! Sometimes we get ice.

I don’t know which chocolate chip cookie I’d prefer, all I know is I want to taste test them all!

Reply

Oh my gosh, Brooke’s bed-head is awesome!

My favorite cookie is the one labelled “Dough Chilled 24Hrs” — it looks perfect!

Reply

I love that cookie info!! I am totally on board with more flour – love fluffy cookies!! And I am looking forward to your tips on winter running and not letting “freezing to death” affect your running schedule!! :)

Reply

My youngest will be 3 on 11/24. Once again, the party will be on Thanksgiving day!! Birthday cake instead of pumpkin pie!

Reply

I’m looking forward to your post about training in the winter. I’m not a big fan of the treadmill, but living in Canada near the mountains means dealing with snow, which I did on my run this morning. Snow and frozen slush. Not very slippery, but not the easiest on the ankles, either. If only everyone would keep their sidewalks shoveled it wouldn’t be as much of an issue!

Reply

Me and Noah both have November birthdays! He will be 2 the 18th and I will be 26 on the 30th :-) I’m more excited for his than mine I think. As for cookies… I’m not as picky about the ingredients as I am about texture. It must be moist, warm, and DOUGHY!

Reply

My daughters 4th birthday is in 4 days. She was due Nov 4th, but decided to be mean to her mother in her first act of defiance.

I like the way the 24 hours chilled dough cookie looks.

I live in Canada. Therefore I’m farther north than you= colder and more snow. Very unfortunate inded. I’m looking forward to your post tomorrow because I’m choosing my treadmill more often than running outside!

Reply

It doesn’t snow much here, but when it does it shuts down the whole city so everyone gets time off from work and school

Reply

I totally walked right pasted you at Harmon’s this morning! I really should say HI next time I see you. We go to all the same places and do the same things. I think we would be friends

My sister’s birthday is on the 6th- she’s going to be 16!!!

I can’t wait for your post tomorrow on staying warm. I about froze to death this morning when I was running.. it was 36 degrees. I got to say though my jacket kept me pretty warm, sometimes too warm, so I don’t know how I’m going to balance that.
Happy Birthday Curly!!!

November 9…same day I am running the Savannah Rock n Roll half!! Great way to spend a bday :) No snow in south GA :(

It snows quite a bit here, but usually not this early. Thankfully!

Those chocolate chip cookies made with the dough chilled 24 hours look the best. I’m glad I don’t have those here! I would eat them.

No run today. It’s yoga day!

Reply

Aaaah! Snow – I’m super jealous!

Reply

We get a LOT of snow up here in Alberta, and since I have a tendency to slip on ice at least once every year, my runs have gotten quite stressful — probably going to be time to take them inside soon.

As for cookies, I honestly wouldn’t say no to any of them, but the ones labeled “all brown sugar” and “more flour” are my favourite.

Reply

I’m in a new city this winter so I’m interested to see what the weather does. I’m hoping for lots of snow!

Can’t wait to read about your cold weather tips. I posted tips for running in the dark today. Daylight Savings messed up my schedule too! http://bit.ly/1cGV7kB

Daylight savings hit us hard here too. Little guy was up at 5:30. We usually get a lot of snow and I really can’t wait for it to come!

Reply

My birthday is coming up- Black Friday this year! I live in WI so we usually get quite a bit of snow. None yet though!

Reply

I’d say I prefer them either the ones that say “more flour” or “all brown sugar”. I like them to be a little bit more “fluffy.”

Looks like you all had a great Monday! Good job easing back into your running – I seem to want to learn all these lessons the hard way :)

Reply

I like my cookies chewy but with a slight crunch. I want to start baking more, but it is a challenge adapting recipes to altitude. I tried making a souffle this past weekend and needless to say it fell :(

Reply

I am with you – i like the one labeled “more flour” and also the dough chilled in the refrigerator method is good too. the chewier and thicker, the better:)

but let’s be honest, you put a chocolate chip cookie in front of me (any kind)—-> i will eat it.

Reply

We get rain here. A lot! We don’t get much snow here, and it makes me miss my snowy states.

No run today, but we did visit the community fitness center today and I was highly impressed. It looks out onto the harbor which will make future runs even more pretty… watching the rain fall on the harbor as opposed to running in the rain along the harbor!

Happy birthday curly!

How do you run in the cold and stay warm? I didn’t invest in good clothes last year and rocked a hoodie and it so didn’t work. We southern belles get don’t do cold well.

November 26th!! That’s MY birthday!!! :D :D :D At least our birthday isn’t on Thanksgiving this year haha ;)

I love my chocolate chip cookies warm, gooey and chewy..I only like a slight crisp to the first bite. The middle must be soft….I am hoping for a mild winter here with very little snow. Last winter was just too cold and snowy for me!

Reply

Today would be my first kitty’s 17th bday.. aww I miss you baby girl!

I like the more flour and the baking powder cookie. Never crunchy!

No run today because I ran 8.5 yesterday – haven’t done that many for a long long time! it felt amazing!

It snows A TON here in the UP. Last year I had a snow day on April 12!

Reply

Oh I love those Ritter Sport chocolates! So yummy!!

It doesn’t snow at all where I live now, and I’m very sad about that fact! Someday I will move back to Boston and will have white Christmases once again! :)

SOOO sweet how your dad kept that file of your “paintings”…I can feel the love thru my computer! :)

Yay, Curly and I share today’s birthday! I’m….a bit… older than 5 though lol!

I live in Northern Michigan so it snows quite a bit…nothing so far, though.

Wow, not sure I could pick a favorite choc chip cookie, but I think I would pick the one with both baking powder and baking soda.

No run today, but I did cross train with a weight/cardio class.

I love the pictures, that is awesome that your Dad kept them!

So excited for tomorrow’s post. This is my first winter running (I’m new to this game!) and live in RI so I need lots of tips! I love any chocolate chip cookie and hope it doesn’t snow too much this winter. I’m southern and cold is tough :)

Reply

I don’t know if it snows a lot here. We just moved here this summer, I do know it rains alot here.

It’s getting cold here, looking forward to your post tomorrow.

My run today was 3 miles. Simple, working my way up to half.

I like all chocolate chip cookies as long as they are some what soft!!!

Reply

It snows like every 5 to 7 years here in Houston and when it does, the whole city shuts down because it usually ices first and then has a thin layer of snow over it. People aren’t used to driving in that kind of weather, so to keep everyone safe the city shuts down. I prefer a nice soft an chewy cookie and if you take two cookies and add whipped cream in the middle to make a sandwich, then I’m happy. Today I did an easy 5 mile run.

Reply

Awww, Curly and I share a birthday :) Happy Birthday to Curly!!

I love that Brook was looking for you out the window!! Sometimes when I come home I can look up at my apartment window and see my dog there looking out for me (she is as close to a child as I have lol:)

That last chocolate chip cookies recipe I made had cream cheese in it… they were delicious! And now I am thinking about driving to the 7-11 down the road for a hot chocolate… it was the marshmallows that won me over ;)

My son’s birthday is November 7th; he will be 11 years old and is the complete center of my universe.

We have had a few snow flakes already this year….. :(

I love crunchy, melted butter chocolate chip cookies.

I did a quick 4 miles today on the treadmill; crazy work day and I was happy to get that in.

Reply

Whoa, that cookie picture is amazing! I think I like the melted butter type the best.
That’s so fun that Brooke and Curly are having so much fun… they’re going to be close forever and ever :)

Reply

I can’t wait to read about training in the winter! Got any tips for training with baby when it’s cold? Since she’s still waking up at night I can’t quiet pull off the early morning run so my best option thus far has been running with her…

I like my cookies after the dough has been chilled. Then the center is nice and gooey:)

Reply

I actually live in the one part of Canada that barely gets any snow! Southwestern BC is like that; we are more like Seattle than anything else. We have tons of mountains though (I work on one), and we can see the snowfall up there. Today was snowfall-on-the-mountains-day-1!

Reply

Aw Curly and I (and a few others) share today as a birthday! I always liked when my birthday fell because if I was lucky, it would be Election Day and school would be closed (the building was used as a voting location). Happy Birthday, Curly!

I probably like the more flour or “both” cookies the best.

I haven’t ran since my 10k on October 26, in currently in physical therapy for ITBand issues that started last year, but I hope to start running again soon! In the meantime, in getting in plenty of cross training! My favorite is body pump! It’s fun to see my ability to lift weights increase the more I go!

I wish I lived somewhere we got more snow. We only get a little if we get any at all.

Reply

I get nice puffy cookies by reducing the fat content a little, adding a touch more flower, and rolling the cookies into balls before baking. Yummy!

Reply

All the cookies look delicious!

I prefer winter running–I get SO hot when it’s over 55 degrees. (And I’m one of those always-cold kind of gals.) We can have either brutally cold, dangerously icy, or abundantly snowy winters here, or all of the above. Running is the only thing I enjoy doing outdoors in the winter!

Did a 9.6 miler in the cold (42 degree) rain today. Took a lot willpower to tear myself away from the fireplace and to get my butt out the door, but, as always, it was so glorious and totally worth it.

Reply

Today is my birthday! Love the snowflakes in Brooker’s hair =)

Reply

I live in Alabama, so it very rarely snows here. When it DOES snow though, EVERYTHING shuts down–schools, stores, offices. And do not even attempt a grocery store run, because there will be no milk, bread, or eggs! :)

I didn’t run today, but I did get in a nice 10 miler yesterday.

Reply

I used to make drawings and sell them to my family too, but my mom and my grandpa would both buy them. Ten cents a piece, I hope you charged higher for that artwork ;)

Reply

I do indeed love some good morning hair!

And I don’t care how my chocolate chip cookies look…as long as they’re warm! :)

Reply

I am so excited about the cookie part of this post. I always get flat cookies. Now I know why! I am a “more flour” girl myself.

Reply

Me, me! I have a November birthday. And this year it falls on black Friday. We don’t get snow where I live in south Louisiana. Today the temp was about 72 degrees. Felt great! Stay warm!

Reply

It rarely snows here in Alabama, so when snow threatens everything shuts down and the grocery stores run out of milk and bread. It is incredibly ridiculous.

Two years ago we had a lot of snow and I ended up having to sleep in the conference room with a bunch of people in the hospital where I work because they wouldn’t let us leave, because no one could come in to take care of patients. It was a mess.

Reply

It snows a little here, but not nearly as much as I would like!

Nov 7th is my 33rd birthday! I live in Ohio and its cold and snowy. Looking forward to your tips! I just picked up a new running jacket for the wet weather.

My dad, grandpa, aunt AND best friend have their birthdays in November. It’s a busy month!!

Ah! So cute :). Love her hair.
Thanks for the cookie pic. I grew up with the flour type but I prefer the baking soda type…if that makes sense lol
No run today. I shovelled my driveway out from the huge dump of snow we got here (20cms..) and pulled a muscle in my back (im weak lol) so I took it easy today but I’m gonna try tomorrow. Pathways are so icy right now so I may be on the treadmill…can I come over and use yours?? :)
My dads bday is nov 20th. I use it as my marker to set up my Christmas tree. I’m weird I know…

awesome! I get asked all the time how long to wait until you run after a 1/2 or full and how long you wait until you run fast again. I’m glad you’re showing everyone to take it easy, it’s completely different person to person :) #runhealthyrunhappy

I love that chocolate chip picture! So interesting, and good to know!! :) Can’t wait for tomorrow’s post- I need some running inspiration! Annnd it doesn’t snow here. Ever. But we live a few hours from Tahoe, where it snows a LOT so we can always make a day trip to see the pretty white stuff!

Kinder Chocolates are seriously the best. When I had a summer abroad, I ate it everyday. Now, whenever I find it at international food stores it’s like Christmas!

I like my chocolate chip cookies really soft and doughy on the inside.

I love my cookies chewy! Although sometimes crunchy ones are good too!

I can’t wait to read about running in cold weather! I am training for a Feb half marathon and am dreading doing all my runs outside in the freezing cold. Not fun at all – wish I had an amazing treadmill like you do!

Happy Birthday to Curly! My niece’s bday is this month too. I love celebrating kids bdays – it is so much fun.

My run today is a 4 mile run around the monuments of DC during my lunch hour.

I have recently learned the secret to making the world’s best chocolate chip cookie… and I like you, so I will share… follow “the recipie” — you know the one. Add 1/2c of flour and one large package of vanilla pudding mix (not pudding, just the mix). Bake for EXACTLY 10 minutes. The dough will be dryer than you are used to (that seems obvious now that I typed it) but it will yeild the fluffiest softest most delicious choc chip cookies ev-er. Try it. They are a-mazing. You’ll thank me :)

Happy Birthday Curly! (yesterday right?) you are stinkin’ adorable!

Thanks for the cookie link. I’ve always wondered what they all look like side by side. I prefer the ones with a little more flour too.

Which grocery store has that amazing salad bar so I know where to go when I come up to visit my family in November/December?

My husband’s birthday is today! I use that chocolate chip cookie link when I bake mine. I prefer the chilled dough version.

No snow here. Ever. The last time we had snow (and it was basically a flurry) was 1989. Giggle.

My 7 year old son tries to sell me his written stories and “books” all the time! I have a hard time convincing him that he can’t sell them to people in public.

That’s so sweet about your pictures! Awww!!

I definitely think I like my cookies more on the baking soda/powder side of things. At least judging by those pictures.

We haven’t gotten any snow yet, and that is OK by me! We had a couple of big storms last year where we had a foot or two of snow, but it was a fairly mild winter with not much else outside of that.

November birthday for me…it is November 12th!

Sometimes it snows a lot. One of my favorite times to run is when it just starts to snow. Love to see my footprints covered up when I get back.

Todays run was 6.5 miles. I ran to my voting place and then ran home!

My birthday is November 25th! Sometimes it’s on Thanksgiving! We have lots of November birthdays in my family.

I’m in Kansas so we get snow. Sometimes we get a TON and sometimes we barely get anything. Depends on the year! I think we are supposed to get a lot this year.

My birthday is November 19th :-)

I live in Southern California so snow is rare unless you live in the mountains.

My favorite chocolate chip cookie is one made with granulated sugar. Flat and chewy!
