Inside Runner’s World HQ and my dilemma.

The blogger party bus.  I feel like I want to travel in busses like this a lot more.  It was fun.

We were picked up from our hotel (I’m sharing a room with Skinny Runner and Brittany) to go to the Runner’s World Headquarters (I was just kind of excited about this because I have pretty much read this magazine for half of my life).

IMG 2553

Theodora, Ericka, Heather and Katy.   I really like them.

Runners know how to eat well so I didn’t have to worry about there being good food at our event last night.  Burgers, pasta and salad.  A good burger is just needed some days.

IMG 2558

The whole crew together.  Please note that I am in fact standing next to Bart Yasso.  NBD (mom, in case you are wondering what NBD means… it stands for no big deal).

DSC 6990

They took us on a tour of the building and David Willey (the chief editor of Runner’s World) had quite the shoe collection hanging out in his room.  They have a group run at noon everyday.  That’s my kind of a company.

IMG 2564

Bart Yasso’s room was quite decorated.  He is pointing at the mile marker from mile 10 of the Antartica Marathon.  Yep, definitely don’t think I would make it pass mile 2 of that marathon.

And the Comrades Marathon.  Pretty incredible.

DSC 6986

They have a bike storage room for the employees that ride their bikes to work.  See the blue bike… It is only worth about 20 grand.  NBD (I did just use that two times in one post).

IMG 2567

We ended the tour with s’mores, cookies and brownies for the win.

Christmas morning runner style:

For some reason I can never remember to pack a toothbrush.  A toothbrush is kind of important when you eat the amount of sugar that I do daily.  I told Tina about my dilemma and she saved the day by finding one (with the wrapper on.. don’t worry) in the bathroom for me.  She is so thoughtful.  Now I don’t have to walk to a Walmart to go buy one.

PS Brooke says hello from Utah.

My weekend plans are….. a photo shoot! I won a competition for abs, and this weekend they are being featured in some artistic pics. Cos that’s how I roll ;) And after the photo shoot – pizza.

I read Runner’s World (UK version) and Trail Running. Are there any others I should check out?? I can only seem to find the general fitness mags.

I imagine Runner’s World office is like the Coke offices, but for running: just awesome running things lying around for people to use.

I haven’t got a race scheduled….I’m thinking of a December/ January one to keep me running in the colder weather!!

Have fun :)

Amazing!!!
Oh , by the way, to your mum, I also didn’t know what NBD meant! Learnt something new!
Resting…or bring lazy after my half marathon last weekend- I’ll start running again on Sunday.

Reply

I am doing the Runners Works races this weekend too! I will keep an eye out for you and say hi if I see you. :)

Reply

Fantastic!!! Enjoy the times and thanks for giving us some highlights!!!

Looks like you’re having a great time. Weekend plans- mountain trip…. Seriously my favorite place in the world.

Reply

Have a great race, Janae!

Reply

Yeah-Bart Yasso pretty much rocks! And don’t worry HungryRunnerGirl mom-I didn’t know what NBD meant either ;) It’s been fun reading about this trip from the different perspectives of some of the bloggers I follow! Thanks for including my daily dose of Brooke cuteness. My mom is visiting me here in Ohio (from Louisiana-my real home) for some fall foliage fun. It’s awesome to get to hang with her. Bart just posted a beautiful picture of your sunrise run-enjoy!!

Reply

I’m running my first ultra tomorrow (hence the fact I’ve been awake since 5 today- pre-race jitters, anyone?). It’s a 6 hour run, so I know when I’ll be done, so I’m just hoping to run between 28-30 miles. It’s on trails, so I really have no idea how far I’ll go.
It should be fun! The benefit of not being fast is I never have too much pressure- it’s all about having a good time!

Reply

What’s with the Smore’s???? Is there some thing in them that makes them healthy? I never thought of them as being a runner’s snack? Just curious. ;-)

Reply

As far as I know: Theres not at all, but everything in moderation, right ;-)?

Reply

This looks so amazing! Truly a runners DREAM!!
I would stare in disbeilif if I found myself standing next to Bart Yasso… ESPECIALLY in a picture where it would exist for all time!! Incredible!
Maybe one day I will get to be a part of something like this!

I know decided it is absolutely essential that my future career has group runs everyday. I guess that is one way to narrow down my job searching… :)

Reply

What an awesome tour of RW! My next race is the Richmond Marathon in 4 weeks! Yikes!

Reply

Ahhhhh This is so cool!

I have been devouring Runner’s World since long before I began running. WHen I was little, I would always read my Mom’s copy and now I am officially a grown-up because I have my very own :)

Looks like a dream trip!

Dinner date tonight, work tomorrow, work event tomorrow afternoon, and then Sunday is my birthday! Celebrating with a family dinner.

I’m pacing my SIL to her 1st half marathon finish at the Toronto Waterfront Half!!!! So excited for her!

I SO want to run RW…..next year the hat trick is on my list! I just met Bart Yasso when he came to speak to my kids’ XC team on Wineglass marathon weekend…what a great guy!

Looks like so much fun!

What a fun trip!!! Do you have a goal for the half?

My next race is maybe the Devils Run (6.66 miles) next Saturday and then my first trail race in early November :)

Reply

Such a cool experience! So jealous.

I’m running the RW 10K on Saturday, then doing 15 miles on Sunday. Just training no race.

Reply

Tomorrow is the biggest race of the season – UP Finals! I’m hoping to break 20! Other plans are going to the last home football game and a bonfire. I read fitness and I read Runners World whenever it’s at the library!

Reply

I used to read Runner’s World but mostly read Running Times now. I love the workouts and athlete profiles! My next race is a Turkey Trot 10k. I just hope there isn’t a foot of snow on the ground for the race…

Reply

I’m running the Hat Trick at Runner’s World! I will say hi if I see you! :)

I read Runner’s World and Women’s Running.

Reply

That looks awesome!! Have such a blast there :-)

Reply

My next race is just a fun run: the Give Kids the World Gingerbread Runk 5k on November 2nd.
In my opinion, this is one of the best charity organizations out there and my friends and I also raise a couple grand for this event each year! (Or at least try to – it’s the only raise I actually fundraiser for!) last year we got third place for most none raised! check out my fundraising page if you are interested in donating to a great cause: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/dschneck/gingerbread-run-5k-2013

Reply

That looks like such a fun event! Have a blast.
Can’t wait to hear about it.
My weekend plans include a birthday, hanging with my parents a little bit, coffee with a friend, and heading to the mall.

Reply

All my favorite bloggers in one place. Wish I was there! That tour looks like a lot of fun for us running nerds out there.

Reply

I want a “me” room like his office. A man cave but for me with bibs and medals. Sigh. The dream.

Im in the “taper” week next Sunday im running the Atlanta marathon.

This weekend we’re going clamming which means I’m taking a break from sledge hammering for at least a day! (3 hours of sledge hammering yesterday= quite the work out!)

We’re also hoping some family members will be in town this weekend, as we miss them a lot and would looove to see them!

If all goes well, we’ll sneak in a run on the beach with the BOB. Yesterday I learned on which part of the sand to walk with that while walking into fierce head winds. Wow! (Tons of love to the BOB weather shield for keeping our girl warm and safe in all of that.)

Reply

Wow that looks like so much fun. I will admit I’m slightly jealous and would love to do that race sometime. I bet it’s a blast. My plans are to continue my move back home and stop in Atlanta for the weekend. Have a great race Janae!

Reply

Such a cool event! Looks like a lot of fun!

Reply

My next race (and first one in over a year if you don’t count one fun 5K) is the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in Phoenix this January! I start training officially next week! I am SO EXCITED to be coming back from injury!

Reply

I LOVE this post and the bus looks super fun!! you must be in heaven..and Hellooooo new running stuff? How great!

I am addicted to runners world, too, and pretty much running blogs! Love reading new tips and tricks because you can never know everything!! :)

I am running the Baystate Marathon on Sunday-hoping for a 3:26 finish! Pinkie fingers crossed! :)

GOOD LUCK and have an absolute BLAST!
and also: How cool is Bart Yasso’s walL? AMAZING-NESS!!!

Reply

I read Running Times. I dropped Runner’s World because I feel like the editors really started separating content – like World was ALL beginner/fun stuff and Times was ALL advanced/technical stuff. I liked the more advanced piece better, so I found I was skipping most of the content in Runner’s World.

Reply

No running magazines, but lost of running blogs if that counts? ;) Seriously looks like you’re having a great time, though — hanging out with like-minded people is always intoxicating.

Weekend plans? Food, friends, and family… my three favourite things <3

Reply

That looks like a blast!! Glad you’re enjoying yourself. You definitely deserve it.

Reply

“with the wrapper on” haha. I had the same problem – always forget a toothbrush. I try to store one in each suitcase now (in a ‘toothbrush case’) so that I don’t even need to think about it anymore. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Reply

So fun! I love Runner’s World! No big running plans this weekend–taking it easy cause I’m pacing a friend at her 2nd 100-miler next Saturday!

Reply

Count me in as a definite member of the constant-toothbrush-forgetting-club! I might even be the founder!

Reply

I love runner world! I use their online resources all the time. I went nuts with magazine subscriptions a few years ago ($5 for a 3 year subscription?? YES) so I currently get about 8 magazines a month… That I rarely read.

Reply

I’m sorry, I must be reading that wrong because I read it as “$20,000” for a bike. That doesn’t have a motor, or doors, or anything. If I did read that correctly, I’d like to work at runner’s world because they are apparently paying really well.

Reply

RW 5k and 10k tomorrow! I’m excited!

Reply

Looks like you are having a great time! My weekend is going to involve a family visit. Can’t really beat that. :)

Reply

I am so jealous of this! What an amazing experience! I Love Runner’s World – I have read it so many times! Sounds like it is a pretty amazing company to work for as well.

My weekend plans consist of going to a grad party, hiking and sometime an easy recovery 4 mile run. Doing my long run today. Last night, I went to an amazing country concert! My next race is a half marathon in March. It’s my first and I’m slightly nervous. Longest run right now is only 7 miles but I have plenty of time. I’m signing up next week, after that, there’s no going back!!

Reply

FUN! My wknd plans – will consist of running, spa staycation with a friend, and chillin out…much needed after a long wk. Have a good one!

My next race NYC Marathon 16 days!

Weekends plans include hitting up a pumpkin patch with the kiddos and finally getting our Halloween decorations up. I also need to get the final pieces to my kids costumes.

I read runners world, running times, womens health, and some cooking magazines. Those are my subscriptions. I’ll pick up the random other mags if I’m going to the beach or on a trip somewhere.

Next race I’m officially registered for is the SF hot chocolate 15k in January. But I hope to either run a turkey trot (will be out of town) or a December race before then. Need to start looking !!

Wow looks like you’re having an awesome time! That running stuff that you got is amazing, I especially love the striped toque.

My next race is the Fall Classic Half on November 17th in Vancouver. I’m pretty pumped about it but I was sick last week so I didn’t run much and I swear my body feels way out of shape from missing one week of running.

How fun!! Looks like you’re having an amazing time!

Looks like you are having a great time!

In your photo with the running gear/goodies – what is in that can on the top right of the photo??

Reply

A can of tuna ha!

Reply

Haha! I was wondering if it was a headband or socks inside of a can for some reason, guess it was the obvious answer after all!

Reply

Ah so much fun! I would love to do something like that someday but I’m a nobody in the running world :)

I am seeing my best friend after 6 months tomorrow and have a nice date night planned with the man. And the farmers market. But best of all: a les mills launch party all sunday morning for the new programs!

Reply

Ahh that is so awesome!! I live like less than 20 min. away from Runners World Headquarters and have never been! I am doing the 10k tomorrow, woop woop!

Reply

I’m actually running a 5K this afternoon! I’m actually a little nervous because I’ve been having some IT band issues. I’m hoping it doesn’t act up!

I am jealous!!! Runners world, running times and women’s running….are there anymore I could be reading? :)
My marathon is tomorrow!!!!!!

Reply

It looks like you are having a great time! That looks like jsut the place for you.

Reply

You are sooo lucky! That would seriously be my dream trip! Really the only running magazine I read is Runners World. Running Times just doesn’t get it done for me. When it arrives in the mail it’s a special day around here. And because it’s sacred…..it only gets read when I’m home alone in complete silence from front to back. No skipping pages. Also, I try to savor each and every issue, making it last as long as possible. =)
My next run is the a 10k Kona Chocolate run. Can. Not. Wait. It’s my cousins first race ever! How beautiful……chocolate and a newbie all intertwined!!!
Enjoy your weekend! I’m sooooooo incredibly jealous.

You are in my hometown, Janae, I grew up in Bethlehem! Bonus: my aunt retired from the US Postal Service, and for the last several years was the manager of shipping everything to and from Rodale Press in Emmaus, she worked right there!! It’s a beautiful area, I miss it…and I hope you have a good tour guide to take you to the very best places before and after the run.
