Workouts with my sister are as good as it gets.

Welcome to the laziest morning the world has ever seen.

IMG 1295

Last night I had to take Brooke to Urgent Care for an ear infection and to get her medicine so we did not get to bed until late.com.  My alarm clock went off this morning (pretty ironic that I wrote a post about getting up early to run yesterday) and I laughed and turned it off and slept until Brooke woke up.

And then we cuddled.

Top favorite thing in the world is when she holds my hand.

IMG 1297

PS while I was at the pharmacy last night I came this close to buying these but I am worried they aren’t as good as the classics.  Those of you that have tried them…what did you think?

IMG 1278

Once Brooke went down for her morning nap (my mom was at home with her) I called up my sister to meet me at our running trail.  We have probably spent 500 hours together running on this trail over the last 10 years.

IMG 1298

I had my normal fartlek workout on the schedule but I did the warm-up and cool-down slower than usual (average of about 8:15 for those) and then 8 x 1 minute fast (6:10 pace) with 1 minute recovery jogs after the warm-up.  8 miles total.

Workouts with my sister are as good as it gets.  Now to just convert her to the 5 a.m. club:)

IMG 1300

For lunch I ate more vegetables than I have in the last two weeks combined.  I am pretty proud.  There was also rotisserie chicken and spiny peanut vinaigrette dressing in that tub.

Brooke was scouting out the cucumbers…she really loves those lately.

IMG 1306

When I drove by the flag this morning I pulled over and sat there and thought for a while about how much I love my country.

We will always remember….

Awe poor Brooke! Hope she is feeling a lot better today! It’s never fun when a baby is sick.
And hope you get a bit more sleep tonight! It always feels like I have a sleeping hangover when I get to bed super late and then have to get up early. So not fun;)
Best part about my Wednesday is having coffee with my Mom!

I did hill repeats this morning on a ginormous hill. I hate it but I know it will help me PR in October.
Chicken quesadillas with smoked chicken breast and grilled veggies. I can’t wait.
Best thing about Wednesday – taking my son to his tri practice! He is so excited that it’s contagious.

Best part about my Wednesday is I stopped for fro-yo on the way to a meeting this afternoon.

I hope Brooke feels better soon!

I need to eat some vegetables…I just wish someone would prepare them for me :-)

Reply

Thank you!! Come over and my mom will make some for ya;)

Reply

I was actually in Utah last weekend scoping out the St. George ironman course that I’m racing in May! It’s so beautiful there!

Reply

Poor Brooke! I hope she gets well soon!
I don’t know about the s’mores candy corns, but I can forewarn you about Candy Corn Starbursts. Sounds like a good idea, right? Even my candy-corn-loving, sugar-addicted husband said they were terrible and threw away the bag, so consider yourself warned! :)

Reply

Poor Brooke! I hope she gets well soon. Have you seen candy corn m&ms? So good!

Reply

Well now I just have to get those….Candy corn AND M&Ms?!?!?!

Reply

You and Brooke are so cute in your matching striped shirts. I hope she feels better soon….ear infections suck!

I feel like candy corn is one of those things, you just don’t mess with the original. I would skip it.

Reply

Today I ran in my neighborhood. I had to cut it way short because of thunderstorms but at least I got a few miles done. My new shoes arrived today. I am itching to take them out for a spin!

Reply

I hope Brooke is feeling better! Dinner tonight is baked potatoes! I probably need some veggies in my life today, but it’s not on the menu! :)

Reply

I hope Brooke feels better ASAP! Ear infections are no fun. My run was on the treadmill today… not very exciting but it was pouring rain and I didn’t feel like battling the puddles (again) today!

The best part of my Wednesday was running into 2 old friends while out shopping! Felt so good to reconnect :)

My dinner tonight will probably involve chicken noodle soup, pickles and froyo. Hubby’s out of town which means I can really give into the preggo cravings!

Reply

I tried to leave a comment on your blog but it ate it. Anyways, I am so happy you have more energy! You are rocking your running and girl you look too adorable. Miss you like crazy and can’t wait to see you next month!

Reply

Janae, you have to try the white chocolate candy corn m&ms! They are the BEST.

That is what I NEED…okay, off to Target!

Reply

Don’t do it! I was devastatingly disappointed!

Reply

NO JOKE…I almost emailed you yesterday before going in to Urgent Care hahaha but then I thought you would think I was crazy!

Reply

Oh gracious, always email me! Not crazy at all!

Reply

Oh no! I hope Brooke’s ear infection goes away fast! I used to get them a lot growing up and all I remember is really enjoying the pink medicine they gave me. I hate candy corn but I feel like I should give the s’mores variety a shot- I’d probably like it!

Reply

I hope Brooke feels better ASAP!!
It’s a football practice night for my 8 yr old so crockpot chipotle and cheddar ground turkey tacos are what’s for dinner!!

Reply

Okay so you are going to have to send me that recipe…sounds amazing!!! Enjoy:)

Reply

Janae I think you are an amazing person and love your blog and have commented several times. I was there on 9/11 and lost friends from my firm at the Workd Trade Center. It was the scariest most horrific day if my life. I wanted to applaud you for acknowledging this day in such a beautiful way. It gave me chills. Makes me love ya even more.
And ditto, I love this country.

Reply

Oh Linda. I am truly so so sorry for your loss and what you have been through. I want to give you a big hug. You are incredible. Please keep in touch.

Reply

Poor Brooke, hope you are both doing better today!

My run today was on the treadmill doing speed work, glad that’s over.
The trail you run on is gorgeous, I’m so jealous!!

Dinner tonight will be ground turkey tacos, yum.

Best part of today will be taking my 6 year old to her first ballet class in about an hour, she’s so excited!

Reply

That will be a blast!!! I can’t wait to do that kind of stuff with Brooke. Your dinner sounds delicious and way to go on your speed workout!

Reply

I just saw that candy corn at Target over my lunch today. I was close to buying as well but knew I would eat way too much of it in one sitting!!! I love candy corn. Have you tried the candy corn M&Ms? And now they have just come out with pumpkin spice M&Ms. I plan on trying both:)

Reply

Now I just have to copy you and get both!

Reply

To be a good runner you definitely have to be flexible. Especially when you have kids.
I love running with my sister! I ran with her when I first started but she doesn’t run anymore (gasp!), so I have to run with friends.

Reply

Your blog is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I’m glad you got to sneak your run in an glad Brooke is feeling better. That peanut vinaigrette sounds good! Is it from a bottle or a recipe? Also do you meal plan?

Reply

Thank you so much Christine. The dressing is from Trader Joe’s. I used to meal plan but I don’t anymore…I should though!

Reply

Meal plan = whatever Mom makes =)

Reply

No run today. 21mile bike ride and yoga happened today.
I am laying on my couch trying to decide dinner. Thinking take-out is in order tonight.
Best part of my Wednesday so far is the thunderstorm that is happening outside right now. LOVE!!

Reply

Girl. I tried the s’mores candy corn and as much as I wanted to fall head over heels for it, it does not even remotely compare to the deliciousness of the normal candy corn & peanuts offering Brach’s has now bestowed upon us.

That said, its still sugar and sugar is almost always delicious.

Reply

I tried to read through the comments…I want to hear the final say on the candy corn! Can you update us with the results? :)

Reply

I agree. Please do a candy corn and M & Ms review for a blog post. :)

Reply

There must be something going around because I was in Urgent Care last nightuntil 11:30 with Gracen. Fever of 104 scared me to death!
My run this morning was with a few neighbors in our neighborhood. 5:00am is to dark to go anywhere outside of the ‘hood alone. Plus I’m much more responsible when meeting other people.
Unfortunately I had yucky kids chicken tenders.
Best thing about today has been that Gracens fever has been relatively low and Connor hasn’t gotten sick yet. Oh and I got a speeding ticket reduced. Thank goodness!

Reply

i hope brooke’s ear is feeling much better today! also, your running trail is gorgeous. utah is definitely going on my travel bucket list. :)

i’m planning on bbqing chicken for dinner and serving it with quinoa and grilled veggies.

Reply

Awww, poor Brooke! Hope she’s feeling better soon!

Reply

My run this morning felt soooo good. I could’ve run forever if I didn’t have to get to work. Stupid, work :( I now need to go eat a smore.

Reply

The best part of my Wednesday will happen later tonight. My husband and son will return from Virginia. They’ve been there since Friday due to a death in his family. (We really couldn’t afford 3 emergency plane tickets which is why my daughter and I stayed behind.) So I’m looking forward to having them back!

Reply

I’m unfortunately running tonight because I was too tired to run this morning (which is very unusual), but my boyfriend and I are going trail running in the Presidio in SF where we live. :)

Reply

Girls night out with my daughters. Pizza & ice cream + my fav ladies. Perfection!

Reply

The best part of my Wednesday is since I’m currently funemployed…every day is Friday. Though I would prefer a job, I’ve finally unpacked and booked flight tickets for the NYC marathon so I guess it was productive.

Reply

I’ve never had s’mores candy corn, but I can only imagine that they taste about 1000 times better because everything tastes so much better when they’re s’mores-flavored. It’s just a fact of life.

Reply

Awwww…I am so sorry to read about Brooke’s ear ache, they can be real painful :( but I am glad that she is on the mend :) The best part of my Wednesday is getting my laundry done while watching old re-runs of Grey’s Anatomy. Dinner tonight left-overs with something good and sweet for dessert. Run? today? ohm….I am a bad girl and didnt do anything today, oh well there is always tomorrow.

Reply

I love days that make us feel patriotic so much. I’m sad at how this one came about, but I love the spirit of country this gives us.

Reply

I can’t bring myself to try anything other than the regular candy corns – why mess with a good thing?!
Greek pasta tonight – anything with olives and feta makes me happy!
Hope your little one is feeling much better this evening!!!

Reply

I ran around the neighborhood this morning. Completely dark out. A couple birds chirping and a raccoon skittering into a drain, but other than that it was perfectly quiet and serene. Very reflective run.

Hope Brooke feels better. Ear infections are no joke. I was prone to them as a baby/child.

hope you have a better nights sleep tonight!

Reply

I just tried the s’mores candy corn on Saturday and single handedly finished it off that day-they are that good.

Reply

We ate dessert before dinner tonight! I filled crescent rolls with a cream cheese/sugar/cinnamon mixture… It was so easy and so delicious. For dinner (after dessert) it is going to be Trader Joe’s pot pie! Your salad looks amazing. Feel better Brooke.

Reply

I tried the s’mores candy corn and didn’t think they were that good. Last year Brach’s made caramel apple candy corn which was really good! Hope Brooke feels better!!!

Reply

Hi! I have to know where your blue and white stripe shirt is from?!

Reply

Hey! It is from j crew… The only store I know how to shop at.

Reply

I am J Crew obsessed also. Like, it’s bad. But is it an old shirt or one that I can go out and buy tomorrow? :)

You’re so beautiful in that picture!

Reply

Wow! Thank you! I bought it in April so the factory might still have it!

Reply

My dinner is cooking right now and it smells amazing. Loaded potato and buff chick casserole. Topped with cheese. Seriously, not sure it can get better! Ha No run for me today.. elliptical and chest/back, but it felt amazing to lift some weights today! Glad you were able to run with your sister :) Those are always fun times!

Reply

I did a mile repeat speed workout 5 x 1 mile at 110% of marathon goal pace plus some extra for a total of 11!

Best part of my Wednesday was honestly when my run was OVER and getting fro-yo with the husband! I needed it after that crazy workout!

Reply

My run today was on the treadmill. Not my favorite, but the run itself was actually really good!

I had a large lunch (Pick 2 at Panera!) so dinner will probably be just some fruit because I am still pretty full.

The best part about my Wednesday was my run. First good run in awhile! And having lunch with one of my oldest friends. We have been friends since fourth grade!

Reply

LOVE the size of that salad :) dinner tonight was Pad Thai.. yum!! I’m sure there will also be some zucchini brownies eaten later :) my run was 5 miles easy today since I got 2nd place at my xc race yesterday!

Reply

You are gorgeous. The end.

Reply

What a beautiful running trail! And so fun to run with your sister :) I love the pic of Brooke holding your hand. SO precious!! And that salad looks amaze.com. Dinner tonight is salmon, and loads of veggies, yay!

xo

Reply

Awwr poor Brooke – I hope she’s feeling better <3 As for me, dinner tonight is a grilled chicken salad as big as my head with vanilla ice cream for dessert, and the best part of my Wednesday is knowing that I'll be headed to HLS tomorrow to meet some amazing blog friends :D

Reply

Poor Brooke :( Hope she’s better soon!!

My run was with my BFF around our neighborhood at the booty crack of dawn AKA 4:15. It was slower and shorter than usual so we finished with a swim.

The best part of my Wednesday so far was seeing a cat catch a mouse on my way to work and going to the chiropractor!

Reply

Aw, hope Brooke is feeling better!
For dinner tonight I had Turmeric/Paprika/Oregano Chicken and baked plantain fries coated is tons of smoked paprika, so good!

And sending healthy vibes to Brooke! Hope she is feeling better!

Reply

I hope Brooke feels better soon! Good for you for still getting in that run even though you stayed up all night.

Best part of my Wednesday was putting myself out there and actually making some new friends! It’s hard moving to a new place, but gotta keep your head up, right?

Reply

Ran on the treadmill. No shame in my treadmill game. Turned on Les Mis on demand from HBO and sang along like nobody was watching. (they weren’t). Went on to write a blog post to the tune of Thrift Shop from Macklemore, and now I can’t get it out of my head. Need to sleep it off.

Reply

Oh no, you did not just get me excited about s’mores candy corn did you?! I’ll have to be on the lookout for those!

Reply

1. I love your swoop bangs.

2. I love that you and Brooke are both wearing fashionable stripes.

3. Dinner cosisted of peanut butter and honey on toast and a chicken hot dog. Random, I know.

4. I got to brag to my mom at lunch yesterday that I met you and had the most amazing froyo date with some pretty kick butt ladies!

Reply

Those candy corns are definitely not as good as the originals. I do like the caramel flavored ones though!

Reply

I hope Brooke is feeling better!

I ran mid-day today in my neighborhood in the hot and sticky humidity. The good news is that it’s supposed to break tomorrow and be very nice this weekend!

We had a humongous salad with spinach, rotisserie chicken, tons of veggies, and dried cranberries! Yum!

Reply

I hope Brooke feels better soon, and I’m glad you were able to get some rest after you got home.

Best part about my Wednesday was getting my acceptance email into Boston.

I’m totally a traditional candy corn girl, although someone showed me pumpkin spice ones that I MUST try.

Reply

I have a weakness for candy corn as well! So tempting…
My run today was on the treadmill (it was 92 degrees today!). Dinner was salmon, steamed broccoli & quinoa with apples, cranberries, red onion, feta cheese and lemon juice (yum!).
The best part about my Wednesday was having my fiancee come home from NYC safe and sound, feeling blessed.
I hope Brooke feels better soon! Glad you were able to get some extra sleep when you got home :)

Sorry little Brookster is sick-hope she feels better ASAP and you too if you still have a cold. Brook is adorable and you are very pretty in that picture. I broke down and bought the candy corn and peanuts the other day because I had never had that combo-oh my gosh, I ate almost the whole bag in two days! Shameful how good those are together. I cannot buy any more!

Reply

Aww hope Brooke feels better soon! The best part of my Wednesday was a Skype date early this morning with my cousin and her 6 month old baby who live in Sweden. It was a great way to put a hop in my step all day.

Tonight I’m making vegetable fried rice for dinner, I can’t wait til its ready. I’m starving! :)

Reply

hahaha brooke’s face when “scouting out cucumbers”… precious! hope she feels better soon! :)

Reply

Hope Brooke is feeling better! Ear infections are the worst! I had a hot and sweaty speed workout this morning. Best part of my day was taking my son on an improtu date night for froyo after church tonight.

Reply

Lazy mornings cuddling are the best!!! I hope Brooke’s ear feels better soon. My run was a 2 mile warm up followed by 3 fast miles. Even though it was crazy hot and humid today, it felt great!

Reply

Hope Brooke feels better soon. Poor thing! My friend recently brought over the Starburst candy corn and they were disgusting. I immediately bought regular candy corn to get the taste out of my mouth.

Reply

Non-running day for me today (Thursday already), and I don’t yet know what’s for dinner tonight. Guess I’d better get my act together, huh?

Reply

I finally ran outside today, 4.5 miles. So glad I’m not hurting anymore!! We had sweet potatoes and chicken for dinner:)

Reply

I “ran” in our pool. Though calling it “running” is a huge stretch. It was more a weird hopping and bobbing. Lurching…with lots of splashing. I could only stand it for about 15 minutes :(

Dinner. Ooops. Forgot :(

Best part of this day was connecting with a new friend :)

Reply

A beautiful trail run.

Reply

Yesterday I ran on the treadmill to avoid crazy heat and humidity. Today, Bungee and I will take it outside so she can get rid of yesterday’s pent up energy.

We had tuna melts for dinner last night.

Reply

I’m late to the party on this post, but I made the most delicious stuffed acorn squash for dinner last night. I am pretty excited because I have the leftovers for my lunch today :)

Reply

I hope Brooke is all better soon!

Wanted to write in to vouch for the S’mores candy corn. I Love (with a capital L) candy corn and I thought the s’mores were quite yummy. I don’t know if they can take the place of the original, but they come pretty close.

Reply

The best part of my Wednesday was getting lots of chem homework done. I’m feeling very accomplished!

Reply

I acrually really enjoyed the s’mores candy corn (more than I thought I would) but I still prefer the mix with the original, indian candy corn, and pumpkins.

Did you see Brachs also sells the candy corn with peanuts already mixed in? Target had them the other day.

Reply

Poor Brooke! Ear infections suck! And it so sad when they don’t feel good. I hope she’s feeling better soon!

Reply

Big hugs to Brooke. Great job getting out there!

Reply

Feel better soon Brooke!!

The smore’s candy corn are awesome! BUT i warn you they are not the original!! ;)

Reply

My run Wednesday was on the treadmill. I must remember to take it easy post-marathon and not get down on myself that I’m not running 8-minute miles for the next week or so. Taking Thursday OFF!

The best part of my Wednesday was a potluck lunch at work. The theme was “Salads & Finger Foods”. One of my coworkers brought in the best Chinese Chicken Salad from a nearby Teriyaki joint. SOO GOOD!

Reply

Smores candy corn = COMPLETELY LEGIT!!! I bought this same brand last week to pack with me for the Blue Ridge Relay I ran ultra this past weekend, and let me tell you, they are awesome fantastic and they were gone between the six of us in about 13 seconds flat. You have to try if you like Smores!!!

workouts with the sisters are the absolute best thing eeeeever!

V used to get a lot of ear infections. They almost put in tubes until someone told me to stop letting him have a sippy cup while laying down, as the water would back up in tubes, causing the ear infections. Since I am clueless, I stopped and he hasn’t had an ear infection since

Awww…poor kiddo.
