I’m going to need a lot of diet coke this weekend.

Today’s Agenda:

-16 miles….last 4 miles at a 6:55 pace….this will be fun.

-Pack.  Like usual I will pack last second.

-Get on a plane to California.

I won’t have Brooke for a few days which is kind of killing me inside, it’s going to be really hard to be without my little sidekick, but I’ll get through it and my Sunday night reunion with her will be the best thing ever.  Over the next few days I will do everything I can to not think about it and keep myself as busy as possible with my California friends, my mom (she is coming too) and my aunt and uncle.  And drink a lot of Diet Coke.  +Vanilla.  And eat a lot of swedish fish and candy corn.

Last night Brooke had her photo shoot so we got her all dressed up.

I already have two of the amazing pictures back from my friend:

NewImage

Just a month late on the bday pictures:)

Those little teeth.

And one from my phone….hi, all of the sudden Brooke looks like she is 2.5 years old.

IMG 1609

The amazing photographer (aka my older sister… not technically related but you know what I mean.  I have known her since I was 5 and she even lived at our house for a little while during college).   Photographing/getting a one year old to pose is tough work and we were starving by the end so we went to a pizza place that was right next to where we were taking pics.

DSC 6459

The best thing I know to eat the night before a long run.  Pizza is kind of my good luck charm.

DSC 6461

And for dessert I had some of that red velvet cake in the picture with Brooke above…once again she barely touched her cake so I am forced to eat it for her.

Good luck this weekend. I imagine it will be really hard, but I’m glad your mom is able to go with you. Brooke will be in fantastic hands in Utah, but I’m sure that reunion will be amazing on Sunday :) That run looks tough.. good luck!

Last dessert would be a cinnamon roll. Love them! I’m a fan of all things pizza so that sounds amazing as a pre run food. My long run is only 5 miles! Woo! Recovery week :)

15miles will be long run this weekend. Longest run I have done to date. I am scared. But, I have a friend who I have convinced to join me.

I do pasta with red sauce before long runs. I had to learn the hard way! NOOO fiber. ;-)
Last night I had a turtle cookie from a store bakery. Chocolate cookie with fudge and caramel drizzled on top with chopped nuts!
Those pictures are adorable! Brooke is so lucky to have her whole life in awesome beautiful pictures!
I know it’s hard to leave. I have to leave my kids every other weekend and it’s hard. Hang in there!

Brooke is absolutely adorable. Good luck this weekend! Just keep looking at pictures of her on your phone and that will help. The two of you can have one big dessert party when you are reunited on Sunday!

Reply

Great pics! I hope your weekend is full of wonderful distractions :) I didn’t have dessert last night and I’m really wanting something sweet right now so maybe I’ll have dessert for breakfast.

Reply

Ahhh Brooke is getting SO BIG!!! Having your mom with you this weekend will help you get through it!

Last night I went to town on a bag of Reese’s Pieces and Starbursts. No running for me this weekend, but hopefully I will make to a spin class!

Good luck and stay strong this weekend. It will be amazing to see Brooke’s little face light up when she sees you on Sunday!
The last dessert I had was last night at book club: gooey cinnamon buns, ju-jubes, and jelly beans. So yummy!

best of luck this weekend, know we’ll all be thinking of you and sending positive vibes! :)

The weekend will go fast- I know how hard it is at first to be without our little sidekicks. But, you get through it and it goes fast and to tell you the truth, now I kinda look forward to the quiet (my son though is 9, when he was much younger it was much harder and different to separate from him). Enjoy your long run and have a great flight and a great weekend.

Reply

Have a great run! I am certain that you will absolutely rock it and you will feel so strong when you look back on it – and the same is true for California. You will be great and in the end, there is little Brookers waiting for you (with the biggest smile, I’m sure)

I had gummy candy for dessert last night after chipotle. A win-win dinner!

Still not allowed to run (tibia stress fracture. You know how that is.). It’s been 60 days today, since I last ran.
So gym it is!

… and don’t forget, we are all here to cheer you on.
You will be great!

I know you’ve already heard this 873947094857 times today, but Brooke is just SO BEAUTIFUL! Prayers for a smooth weekend.

Reply

Pizza is my favorite pre long run meal too. Brooke’s pictures are too cute!

Drink as much diet coke as you need this weekend-have you tried coke zero? Life changing. Glad your mom is coming with you- keep your head up girl.

Reply

I usually stick to pasta the night before a long run or something pretty bland that can’t mess up my stomach too bad! The last desert I had was some candy Tuesday night. Trying to be good and limit my treats until the weekend now :)

Reply

Good luck over the weekend! You’ve got this x

Reply

Will be praying for you this weekend! I know that will be hard not to have Brooke right there but at least it’s a short trip…speaking of Brooke, holy cuteness!!! I hope you will share more of the pictures as you have them!

Good luck on the run tomorrow :)

Just think how EXCITED Brooke is going to be when you’re reunited on Sunday. That is going to be pretty darn cool. ;) Love ya, girl!

Reply

Pizza is definitely my go-to meal before a long run, too. Plus, then leftovers are great for refueling after the run.

I don’t remember what the last dessert I had was. Probably the cookies my mom made for me last week.

Hang in there this weekend!!

Reply

i like sushi or a simple pasta before a long run. definitely off the menu, sadly, are pizza and salads and fajitas. I have tried all of these before and it turned out terrible! ha. brooke is so cute!

Reply

spaghetti with squash–just cook the zucchini in some olive oil then dump the oil and zucchini over the spaghetti and it’s the most amazing delicious thing in the whole entire world. I then save the extra zucchini/oil and use it on oatmeal the next day for lunch. Mmmm, now I’m hungry.

Reply

Love these pictures of her!! Such a beautiful girl with the prettiest eyes! (and btw: I’m kind of jealous of her shoes – SO adorable! :)
The last dessert I had was ice cream last night. No explanation needed.
Big hugs for the weekend! Thinking of you!! <3

Reply

Brooke looks a lot like your mother in these photos. I think it is the way you’ve done her hair.

We’re having pizza tonight. We often have pizza on Friday nights and it is the perfect fuel for a long Saturday run!

Reply

Froyo!! Last Sunday hahaha geez that feels like forever ago. I usually just eat the same, nothing changes, well except after the long run I make a huge smoothie to drink :) I’m hoping for 4-6 miles, every half mile I increase my speed, should be interesting :)

Reply

Best of luck this weekend in California. Stay strong girl! And how excited Brooke will be when she sees you on Sunday will absolutely melt your heart. Have a great long run!

Reply

Oh, those pictures of Brooke are just precious. She is darling!

Night before a long run ….uh, Pizza and then pizza and maybe a little pizza.
My long run this weekend is an 18 miler, though I don’t run as fast as you, but I’ll probably be finished by noon the next day.
Good luck this weekend. Your a strong girl, you’ll be fine. :)

Reply

Wow, look at her. Those are SUPER cute. Is it wrong or weird that I am already thinking about my 2 month olds first birthday pictures???? You are right though, in mama’s eyes, they always look soooo much bigger and older than they are. Well….Brooke looks “mature” to me too. =)

Reply

Stay strong this weekend, it will be over before you know it. While you’re there will you get a chance to see bangs friend? That might make it a little more enjoyable. Brookes pictures are so cute, she’s gorgeous!
Good luck on your run today too, you’re amazing!!

Thinking about you this weekend my dear friend.

Save travels and enjoy your time. I thought I was going a lot of traveling lately but I think might be on the same level with that. Have fun!

Reply

((Hug)) and chug that diet coke like it’s being discontinued.

(wouldn’t that be sad if they discontinued diet coke? I’m crying now.)

Reply

Can never go wrong with red velvet! And I adore Brooke’s hair is her little headband. So cute!
The last treat I had would be the Diablo Chocolate Cake I had last weekend, but I’m not counting my near-nightly chocolate fix ;-)

Reply

Good luck in California! That’s so hard. You are so strong. I hope everything goes well. Know that we are cheering for you and praying for you! I love this scripture:
D & C 84:88
“…for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.”

Reply

Good luck this weekend! I’ve been following your blog for along time and I feel like I personally know you! I’m pretty sure this is the first time you’ve been away from her, so I feel for you :( You’re strong, so I know you’ll make it through this!

brookes hair! too cute, wish i could get mine to look that nice ;)

As a fellow divorcee, I say that you should drink just as much Diet Coke as you need! I pretty much lived off Diet Pepsi when I first got divorced (probably why I quickly lost forty pounds, ha!) and running was my outlet. As you keep saying, you need to do anything that makes you happy.

I haven’t been reading your blog very long, but I really emphasize with your situation. All I can say is that I know it gets better. I’m three and a half years out from the sudden end of my first marriage, and it’s like night and day. I’m keeping you in my thoughts!

And I had butterscotch walnut fudge from the breakroom last night. It was amazing.

Reply

You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers this weekend, Janae! Brooke looks adorable in those pictures. Her hair is so cute – it looks like she has a little bob. I hope you get to spend lots of time with Bangs friend while you’re gone!

Reply

I’m so sorry you have to be away from role but I’m sure your reunion with her will be wonderful!

Reply

Oh my giah! How can you stand it! Brooke is too cute, stay strong girl you got this!

Reply

Have fun on your long run!! Good luck with the last 4 miles! You’ll do it no problem I’m sure! ;)
That’s gonna be rough to leave Brooke, but your reunion in a couple days will be filled with hugs and kisses!! :)
Drink all the Diet Coke you need Janae! You’re right in doing things that make you happy right now! Keep your head up! I’m praying for you and thinking of you everyday as I have a family member that is going through the same thing at the same time right now… You will be ok! You’ve got tons of family, friends, and blog friends that love you and are here to support you in any way you need!! love ya girl! *hugs!*

Reply

Oh those blue eyes!! My last treat was chocolate brownie thunder last night and my stomach totally repaid me on my run this morning :( Tomorrow is a 12 mile run with two girlfriends (woohoo!)

I know it’s hard to be away from her for a few days, but she will want lots of kisses and snuggles when you get back. Safe travels and enjoy some time with your family and friends! You will be in my thoughts and prayers this weekend.

Reply

Love the pictures. Brooke looks adorable in them. But I think we all knew that she would – is there a time when she DOESN’T look absolutely beautiful? I wish I could go to Cali to help distract you. But I am sure your awesome family and friends there will be so excited to see you and will do a great job. This is just a blip in the road. I hope your run goes well – definitely sounds like a tough one today. Use all your emotion to execute it well like I know you will. You are amazing and I love you!

Reply

Make Brooke’s adorable little smiling face with those cute little teeth the wallpaper on your phone so whenever you need it, she will be smiling at you. How can you do anything but smile when you see that little cutie pie?! This weekend will go great and enjoy the company of your friends and family. Safe travels!

Milk duds, in the small Halloween packs. It makes we like I won’t eat as many. My long run is 18 miles on Sunday then watching the Pat’s game then Seahawks.

Remember Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. And remember the addendum… with my mom, too. Stay strong and remember we are all with you. Good luck. I hope it goes quickly.

Those photos are priceless. That little face.

Reply

Awww so sad you will be away from Brookie but glad your Mom and friends will be there to support you.

Speaking of diet coke, have you ever had a dirty diet coke? I guess its a Utah thing and I tried it at Sonic yesterday and it was really good!

Last dessert I had was a caramel apple sucker….love those things!
I usually just eat whatever before a long run, I need to research more about it.
My long run this weekend is 3 miles! Yea, I am following a training plan and thats what it says. Next week I go for 7 miles.

Reply

Most recent treat: dark chocolate almond fro-yo from TCBY…with tons of sprinkles and coconut flakes…DELICIOUS

Sunday I have 10 miles…training for my first half marathon!

Every positive thought and prayers through this weekend. I hope the diet coke stupor finds you at Sunday evening before you know it. :)

Those pictures of Brooke – literally melting my heart.

The last dessert I had was 2 halves of 2 different cupcakes – espresso and tiramisu. SO GOOD! I put a picture of it on my blog this morning. I think I need to go back to the cupcake shop today….

I like pasta before a long run – simple and good! ;)

I’m doing a 23 tomorrow…..eck!

God speed this weekend Janae. Prayers and good thoughts for you and Brooker. Can’t wait to see you back with your little sweet pea on Sunday! Wishing you safe travels and many cups o’ Diet Coke! :D

Reply

Brooke looks so much like your mom in the picture where she is missing her tooth. I heard the song “Roar” on the radio this morning and it always makes me think of you (not trying to be creepy :)). I just think you have handled everything with such grace and strength. You have perfectly achieved the balance of being positive while also letting us see your vulnerable side.

Reply

Ahhh darling!! She looks a lot like your mom, in my opinion. Beautiful.

Good luck this weekend. I am seriously in awe of your strength, grace and dignity.

Reply

I LOVE her hair all blow dried and styled. She’s such a sweet little thing!

To honor National Run At Work day, I’ll be leaving work early to get my run in today (since I couldn’t get up this morning…).

You’re my hero. We are all supporting you! Have a nice weekend in California.

Reply

Good luck this weekend, Janae, I’m sure it won’t be easy, but so glad you have family and friends to lean on. I’ll have an extra (or three) diet cokes for you!

I’m making spaghetti and meatballs tonight for my long run tomorrow. I may have to try your pizza though, any excuse for more pizza, right?!?!

Reply

Brooke looks like a little Matilda in that last picture! SO ADORABLE. The last dessert I had was some of my signature Guinness Fudge Cake with Stout Caramel Sauce.
And my favorite thing before a long run has to be a bowl of granola mixed with reese’s peices, chocolate chips, and pb2.

Reply

Praying for you this weekend. Glad you have your mom. Brooke’s pictures are breathtaking.

Reply

Why does Brooke look so grown up? She is absolutely adorable!
I have 12 miles this weekend. I’m trying something new with my training and doing some long runs for my half (14 next weekend, then 15) before my taper. Hoping that helps me break my PR.
Thinking of you this weekend.

Reply

I plan to run 8 miles this weekend!! That pizza looks AMAZING and so do you :) You are just gorgeous girl!

Reply

Oh Janae! Brooke looks so beautiful and grown up! Gorgeous pics! Safe travels on your trip. Do (& eat/drink) whatever you need to get through the weekend. It’s tough to be away from our little ones, but enjoy the time with your mom. She’ll be so glad to have her little girl all to herself!

Reply

Safe travels and I hope everything in CA goes well. Well, as good as it can go. And Brooke looks kind of like Matilda from the movie in those pictures!

Reply

Keep your head up girl!! Just remember how excited that adorable little face is going to be when she sees you on Sunday! <3

Reply

Tough weekend ahead. Good thing you are a tough girl!! Said a prayer for you, and hope it works out better than anticipated. You’ve got this.

Reply

That pizza looks so good! I may need to follow in your footsteps to fuel up for tomorrow’s 18-mile run :) I don’t typically have a “go-to” meal before a long run, but it’s usually just something “safe” that I know won’t upset my stomach the next day. Chicken stir-fry with rice is a popular one in my house.

Last night I finally – FINALLY – convinced my husband to split a Blondie with me! Blondies > Brownies every time in my book. And now he knows. :) VICTORY!

Reply

Hey Janae,
I know this weekend may look bleak but on the brightside, at least you get to have an awesome long run beforehand. I don’t know about you but that always helps me. Plus, if you can run 16 miles you can do anything! You are a very strong woman! Just remember to keep putting one foot in front of the other, keep your head held high and looking straight ahead (in both running AND life).
My last treat was apple slices dipped into nutella. Usually when I run out of apples I continue to eat half the jar with a spoon. When you eat directly from the cobtainer serving sizes do not apply. It’s a fact :)
My longest run is currently 10mi that I did last weekend. It was on a treadmill and felt like mental torture because my phone (music) died halfway through. I had a beautiful trail run this morning so I may do that again tomorrow and try for a long
run. Maybe >10?!? Hopefully one day my “long” runs will be more like yours.
Alright, last thing is BROOKE IS TOO CUTE. I mean it. She just keeps getting cuter everyday and I am about to explode with happiness looking at her pictures.

Reply

Brooke kind of looks like Mara Wilson (except with lighter hair) with her hair in that little headband (ever seen the movie, “Matilda”?)! So adorable!

Reply

Totally! I was just going to comment and say the say thing!

Reply

Oh my lord Brooke and those pictures. You have the worlds most adorable little one!

And my long run is hopefully 11 miles — we’ll see how that goes! I’m very anxious about it, for whatever reason!

Reply

How can she keep getting cuter and prettier? The little teeth! Niki does great work.

Holding you close in my heart as you embark on this weekend journey. Diet Coke, candy corn, Swedish fish…and don’t forget ice cream and #FROYO ;-)

Reply

I’m excited to have cake this weekend to celebrate my birthday! And I have a 11 mile run on tap – which will be my furthest distance ever! Gonna be a good one! try to enjoy the sunshine :)

Reply

I didn’t run to work, but we go on a group trail run every Friday so I hope that counts!

I’m still trying to find a go-to meal before a long run, maybe I’ll try pizza next!

Have fun in Cali!!

Reply

My favorite pre-run meal is definitely pasta. Some simple pasta with olive oil, salt, and maybe some salmon is the best!

My long run will be about 11 miles and will be partly concrete and partly trail. The perks of living and running in SF!

Reply

Brooke is so adorable – love the sweater!!
Hope this weekend goes smoothly for you.

Reply

Oh my goodness that headband + bangs is just too adorable!

Glad you’ll be surrounded by family and friends in California.

Reply

Oh, those blue eyes are adorable

Reply

Thinking of you this weekend, Janae. Those photos are to die for. Enjoy your time with friends and family and you and Brooke will be back together before you know it. xoxo

Reply

Last dessert was a few big bites of pecan pie with homemade whipped cream at this great cafe the other night! It was to die for!! My tummy didn’t appreciate it but I sure did :)

Pizza is my go to ALWAYS for a long run or race. Even if it’s a 5K! haha Any excuse for pizza.

Long run will be 11 or 12 miles tomorrow, depending on how I feel!

Praying for you all weekend girlfriend. Can’t wait for your reunion with Brooke sunday night, I know you will be soooo happy :) BEAUTIFUL pics of her!!

Reply

Brooke is so stinking cute!!!
Last treat?? I tried pumpkin pie poptarts. Holy goodness!!
My long run this weekend is 10 miles. Building myself back up. I think I am going to run it afterwork though so I can sleep in a little tomorrow morning.

Reply

I’ll be running my first PDR tomorrow morning. 15 miles :) Are you getting any running in while back here?

Those pictures are ridiculously lovely. She’s growing up so fast. I remember her being so small in the car seat at Yogurtland.

As hard as it may be, I hope you get to enjoy what time you have back in the Bay Area with friends and family. You are a strong woman surrounded by people that truly love you and care for you and Brooke.

Good luck this weekend! Ever listen to Florence and the machine? Dog days are over is a fantastic running song and when my husband and I were separated and he was with the kids- I used to blast that song on repeat and run and run and run!!! Hard and fast! Always made me feel better ;)

Brooke looks adorable! I think it’s the styled hair that makes her look older. We’re used to the happy-go-lucky, not coiffed, Brooke! :-)

I love pasta and marinara sauce the night before a long run. I’m meeting a blogger friend (we met through our blogs) for a long run tomorrow. Yay!

-I had a reese’s cup cookie for lunch dessert. That’s a thing. :)
-I love eating pizza the night before a long run, too!
-I did my “long” run for the week yesterday – 8 miles!

Oh my! Brooke is TOO TOO precious. I kind of want another baby of my own from just looking at her! :)

I will pray an extra prayer for you for this weekend. Good luck, sweetie.

And that run!!! Sheesh, you go girl!!

Brooke is just too cute!!! Great pics!!!

I have 16 miles on the schedule for this weekend. I usually have sushi the night before a long run/race. Pizza seems to be too heavy (but don’t worry, I usually have it right AFTER the long run).

Good luck this weekend Janae! I’ll be praying for you to stay strong and to continue to lean on your support group. I wish my support group was stronger and closer to me as I’m trying to move on from my relationship–but seeing you perservere helps me stay strong.

I’ll drink diet coke for you too. thinking of you all weekend. Sunday night can’t come soon enough.

I usually do pasta before a long run but pizza is my second choice! Preferably with some kind of bread on the side. Those pictures are amazing! I hope you rocked your 16 miles! Good luck in CA, you will be back to Brooke before you know it:)

*Hugs* The weather’s supposed to be beautiful here this weekend, so that’s an upper :) I hope everything goes okay. You should convince Megan D to hop on the plane with you as well—then you can visit me and her aunt in Morgan Hill–win, win!!!

((hugs to you)) Glad you have family with you this weekend…and you are right, seeing Brooke Sunday night will be the best feeling ever :-) Stay strong, you are in my thoughts and prayers <3

Last sweet was a dark chocolate sea salted caramel square. Yum.

I like to have either pizza, lasagna, or a veggie sub/burger the night before a long run.

Tomorrow morning's run is 13.1 miles…running the RW half course. Woo- hoo! :)
