I really need to stop accomplishing so many goals.

Thursday’s 97 degree run taught me a valuable lesson and so Friday’s run was done before the sun was up and it felt infinitely better.   Just an easy 30 minutes around their neighborhood.

I followed the run up by eating breakfast at the table with the SIL.  One of my favorite things about her is that she puts ice cubes in her cereal.  She loves having extra extra cold milk with her cereal.

Wanna know how to have the Phoenix Zoo all to yourself?

Go during the summer.

We only lasted about 2 hours before melting but it was a good 2 hours.

Even animals can sense how stinkin’ cute Brooke is.

Just a rhino.

And my favorite zoo animal:

Not a day goes by here that the kids don’t play at a splash pad.

My goal after we got home from the zoo at 11 a.m. was to get back in my pajamas and stay home all day long.  I have got to stop accomplishing so many goals.

There was a crazy monsoon in the afternoon which helped justify my goal of staying home all day long.

Kids now know how to take selfies at the ripe old age of 21 months.

My brother finished work and brought home a bag full of goodness.  I had a Rubio’s burrito with steak, salsa and guacamole.

Somehow all of the kids fell asleep by 8 and we caught up on our favorite shows while eating the best thing that Trader Joe’s makes:

My coach told me to go according to feel this morning for my long run….anywhere between 8 and 15 miles at an easy pace which sounds perfect to me.  I’ve got my starburst and water ready and we will see how this body feels and how far it wants to go.

What is your run going to be this weekend?

What are you looking forward to most this weekend?

I’ll also be doing a long slow run :-). I am excited for this weekend because I am in NOrth Carolina visiting my BFF. I hope you have a great weekend !

Reply

I have a 14-16 mile long run progressively getting faster to end at marathon pace. I am a little nervous because it has to be done on my home treadmill. trying go mentally get ready for it!

Reply

I did my long run of 12 yesterday :). I actually really love getting it done on Friday and doing a recovery on Sat!
Chocolate-peanut butter-pretzels=major YUM!!! :)
I am curious to know how you like the starburst….are you using it as fuel?

Reply

My long run (and longest ever) was 8 miles :) I felt good all the way through, finished strong & even got faster with every mile… ish! Then I went to a cake club & re-fueled with cake :) Happy Saturday x

Reply

WAY TO GO MIRANDA!!! That is seriously so awesome, way to finish so strong and fast.
Best way to refuel:)

Reply

What is a cake club and where can I join one? This sounds like the best idea EVER!! :D

Reply

Thanks :)

It’s called the Clandestine cake club & it’s once a month where everyone brings a cake from a picked theme, then we eat them! It was my first one today & really enjoyed it, although my tactic was wrong. I should have had slivers of each rather than the size of the bits I was eating haha

Have a great long run today! Mine is today too and it is going to be around 18- my goal is to make the pace VERY easy. I tend to get stuck in my comfort zone of 8:20’s which isn’t slow enough for a long SLOW run, whoops!

Reply

My run will be at the track this weekend. Yuck!
Can you recommend a 13.1 training plan to get me thru the next 4 weeks. I am running the wineglass half marathon as my first. (Not including the 13.1 I ran during my half ironman this summer). Anyway- I have worked with a Tri coach up until last weekend at my final race for tri season. I feel like I need a plan fir the next 4 weeks. My mileage is up there, my longest run being 10miles.

Reply

I like Hal Higdon’s training plans

Reply

You are totally right. Best TJ’s purchase ever!!

Reply

My run probably isn’t happening today. I’m having some bloodwork done which means I’m not allowed to eat or exercise beforehand. It is unlikely that I will do anything productive afterwards. I will be stalking my tracking information of some new running shoes I bought. That should keep me busy!

Reply

7 mile training run on the schedule today! Two weeks from tomorrow I run my second half marathon :)

Reply

7mile run coming up this weekend, super early to avoid the heat.

This weekend I am most looking forward to eating my weight in shrimp!

Reply

Hooray for productivity! :)
Sounds like my kind of day — love going to the zoo!

Have a great weekend!

Reply

My run this weekend will be a trail run with my youngest early tomorrow morning before church. Early because it is going to be 97 degrees (not even looking at the heat index!) here. Ugh.

The rest of the weekend will include swimming and relaxing with nothing on the agenda. It’s going to be fabulous!

Reply

Hope you have a great run!

I did my long run on Monday – 22.4 miles(!) – so this morning I just did an easy 5. My IT is feeling like it wants to act up and cause me pain as is my heel. So I’m playing it safe. I’m sticking to my schedule and stretching (will stretch) super duper well. My long run next Saturday will be another 22-er. Trying to get back on schedule as I was sick so that threw everything off this past week.

I’m not sure what I’m looking forward to most this weekend – good weather, cute pups, and an alcoholic beverage on the porch? I think that’s my game plan for the day!

Reply

Pictures wouldn’t load… :( I am taking this weekend off from running! I need it! If I had an 8-15 mile run planned I would have to do 15… I have to do the maximum if running!

Reply

Hey girl!!! The pics should work now. Good for you to take the weekend off!

Reply

Sometimes I can’t see the pictures on your posts and it makes me extra sad because the words you write to describe them are so curiosity-inducing. Like I need to know what Brooke’s selfie looks like! Haha. So anyway, if your stats are all like, “There’s a girl who hit refresh five times and we don’t know how to count that” – it was me, and I’m sorry (kinda, but not really). Happy Saturday!

Reply

This weekend plans include working around the house, quilting, and having lunch at Cafe Rio :)!!!!! Yeah :) I love going to the zoo especially in the spring seeing all of the baby animals. Have a great weekend

Reply

I want you to know that I consider myself addicted to those chocolate covered peanut-butter filled pretzels. WOW! I think I could eat the whole bag in one sitting (EASILY).

Reply

Waaaah :( I can’t see the pictures and now I am one sad panda.
Today is my “long” run day. I am only up to about 8mi. I am going to see how far I can go!

Reply

HEY MACY!! The pics are working now, sorry about that. I hope you had an amazing 8 miler today!

Reply

With no one to watch the kids tomorrow morning – I miss out on racing in the morning…so I guess the kiddies and I will go and cheer for the hubby

Reply

My run today is 7 miles. I need to work on not starting out fast because I die on hills then. That’s my goal today! I’m having a jam packed weekend full of football game, cookout, and concert! Love it!

Long slow run for me today, too … heading out now!

Reply

Some of your pictures won’t load for me, I want to know what your favourite zoo animal is!!!
I just did a quick 5k this morning. I felt like I pushed myself so I’m happy!
I’m going to a wedding today, so that is what I’m most excited for this weekend!

Reply

Hey Janelle:) The pictures should work now. AWESOME JOB on your 5k today and enjoy the wedding!

We did the same thing in Montgomery, Alabama one summer (August). Both our girls took the best naps after sweating it out for 2hoyrs. We had to cool off in the picnic area before we could brave the walk to the car! Here in England, they have TONS of local petting farms, so we do that instead of the big London Zoo.

Reply

Long, slow, hot, sweaty run for me yesterday. Still recovering. Darn heat. Good luck on your run today friend! Can’t wait to take you and Brooke to the Zoo here. Someday…….

Reply

The heat is trying to kill us both off:) Girl, you are making an awesome return and I can’t wait to bring Brooke to the zoo with you and the boys!

Reply

Getting ready for my 19 mile run (my longest yet!) You are so brave to spend ANY time outdoors in that kind of heat. I would be in my pj’s at home too! Have a great run & a nice weekend!

Reply

YOU’VE GOT IT GIRL!!! Go rock your 19 miler:)

Reply

Hoping for a 6-8 miler, anywhere in between would make me happy :) I’ve never had Rubios, and I think its about time that change! Honestly haha this might sound weird in all, but I’m looking forward to practicing some Chemistry problems. I need to get some simple things down!

Reply

11 easy miles for me tomorrow :) the weather has cooled down drastically here– so I’m looking forward to running with no humidity!!!

Reply

That makes me so happy that the weather is finally being good to you:) Have a great run!

Reply

Have a great long run today! I hope the weather stays okay for you and there’s no sudden downpours! :D

Reply

I’m heading out now for a 12 mile run. It’s starting to get hot here so I gotta get going!

I’m most looking forward to having this run done so I can relax. It’s going to be in the mid 90’s here, so trying to decide what to do with the kids that won’t melt us all.

Mmm those choc covered peanut butter pretzels look so good and dangerous!! Have a great run!

Reply

Heading home to St. Louis today. I decided to make today my rest day and run long at home tomorrow . . . I’m sure the 75-80 degrees plus 70% humidity will feel gross, but I just can’t talk myself into running outside in Phoenix heat ;)

Reply

My favorite kind of goals are the ones that allow me to wear pajamas for the remainder of the day. :)
I’m not going for a run today, but I am going to work at the running store. Our local running group meets there Saturday mornings, so I’ll live vicariously through all of them!
Have a great weekend everyone!!

Reply

Way to go in that heat! I have tried that before and can barely breathe so it’s early morning runs for me. Managed 6.2 miles this morning even though I would have been sleeping. If you guys are ever in SC you’ll have to come check out our zoo here. It is really amazing and it has an aquarium and penquins. We literally go at least twice a week in the fall and spring months. Have a great weekend. We are all geared up for Football today! Go Tigers!

Reply

Hopefully I will actually be able to run this weekend – my knees need to start healing …

It’s supposed to be my 20 this weekend and I’ve been batteling a low grade fever all week. May need to postpone that milestone

Have you read Kristen Armstrong’s latest Mile Markers blog post on Runner’s World titled “Bless Your Heart”? If not, go do it now! It is wonderful and made me think of your situation. <3

Reply

Thank you so much… I am going to go check it out now!!!! You are the best!

Reply

Okay wow. That was so perfect. I needed this. Thank you!

Reply

Yay, I’m glad it helped! I’m a long time reader and I rarely have time to comment, but I had to mention this. P.S. – I just had my first baby (girl!) three months ago and was blessed enough to be able to run to the very end, and I LOVED going back and reading your old HRG Baby posts from your pregnancy. They helped me a lot. There just isn’t enough support out there for exercising during pregnancy!

Reply

Oh that is so exciting! Huge congrats and enjoy every second with that little one! Way to keep up your running!!!

Reply

Agreed. It’s very apt.

Reply

good luck with your long run today!

i’ve been wanting to visit the zoo this summer! i love the zebras, too, but the monkeys are my favorite ;)

Reply

I did some speedwork on the treadmill this morning! So now i’m done running for the week. I’m most excited about our football team’s first EVER football game. Two of my great friends are the coaches and I’m their academic tutor, so it’s extra special to me. Love my boys, cannot wait to cheer them on!!

Reply

Rest day today; 1/2 marathon tomorrow with my husband! He’s not a runner so it should be interesting…and fun! It’s partly trail and partly road and in one of our favorite mountain towns. I’m not really “trained up” for it but am comfortable with the distance so going with him should be perfect for where I’m at. Have a great rest of your weekend! Hope your run went well!

Reply

That sounds like a blast! Have so much fun together tomorrow!

Reply

Did a quick 25 minute cardio workout before getting ready for my day! I’m planning on playing some 2 on 2 sand volleyball this afternoon after getting an iced PSL! hooray for starbucks! :)

Reply

I just got home from a 10 mile run. My last long run before my marathon next Saturday!! I can’t believe it’s already here!
Tonight I get to go to a fun girls event with my mom, some aunts and some cousins. I’m so excited.

Reply

My run was supposed to be 7 miles today, but I only did 4 – the heat and humidity(!) was just too much.
I hope your run went well!!

Reply

It’s so hot and I’m so over it. But I can’t complain to anyone farther south than me so pretend you didn’t read that.

Reply

I raced a 10K this morning and got a big, fat PR! Not too shabby for this mama of two & my first race as 32 y/o! But now I’m pooped!

Reply

Way to go!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so awesome girl!

Reply

Thanks Janae! Guess those marathon training tempo runs & speedwork sessions at track are working!

Reply

My run was only 9 miles this morning. Taper time for the Big Cottonwood Marathon in Salt Lake next Saturday!

Reply

I’m not able to run today.. as I’m still recovering from my 6 mile treadmill hills run that caused a huge blister on my toe! Not fun!!! My back up plan was biking.. which I did 18.5 miles . The best part.. the last 2.5 miles my kids joined! Best way to spend a Saturday morning! Of course we followed it up by having lemon powdered donuts.

Reply

Ahhh I want to go to a zoo! I love them and it’s been a couple years! I think that means it’s time. I love the picture of Brooke and the monkey! And also your niece taking a selfie! SO funny!! I’m doing an easy run for my workout today. Happy Saturday!!!

Just got back from my FIRST EVER 8 mile run. Got started a little too late since I had to walk the canines first, but made it through and I’m now in a dark room with my legs up and surrounded by pillows! ;)

Love the TJ’s dark chocolate with raisins and pecans – you should check it out! (and it’s “healthy”!!)

Reply

I need to go to TJ’s and get me some of those! That looks excellent!

Today was such a nice morning for a run this time of year in Arizona. I took full advantage of it! It is hard to get motivated when it is so hot! I am looking forward to cooler temps. I am Megan Smith’s sister. I have met you a few times! I think you are amazing and inspiring. She just told me about your blog recently and I love it! Hope you have enjoyed your trip!

Reply

Ahhhhhh yes of course I remember you!!!! I adore you and your family! Next time I am down here can we go running together?

Reply

I had a half marathon today and was so afraid I’d bomb because I’m getting over a cold but I had a course PR of over TWO minutes and just had an awesome run over all!! Endorphins all over the place! ;-D I pushed myself to run negative splits and every time I wanted to slow down I kept thinking “I can do hard things!!” :) THANK you for the timely words of wisdom!

Wish you could be running here in western PA…temps were perfect today. It was about 55 degrees, sunny and NO humidity!!

Have a great day :)

Reply

I love the Phoenix Zoo! Last time we were there Mollie was about the same age as Brooke is now. She loved the monkeys and I was obsessed with the giraffes!

The steak burrito looks super yummilicious!

Hope you’re enjoying the cooler temps today! :)

Reply

Wow! You just did two of my favorite things in Phoenix-the zoo and Rubios! Good job. I lived there for seven years, which is a lot of running in the heat (one summer I was even running and 9 mos pregnant). I don’t miss that!

I got in a great 18 miles here in VA today. It was beautiful and if I didn’t have to be somewhere, I would have gone longer!!! Stay cool!

Reply

I pretty much need those pretzels. I love love love TJs.

Our weekend plans = running, schoolwork, and laziness. Pretty much perfect

Reply

I just have a couple easy runs planned for this weekend – I’m trying to train our lab to run with me so I can’t do anything too hard. :)

Those pretzels look amazing! Too bad our nearest Trader Joe’s is 5 hours away.

Reply

It’s really hot so I am going for the elliptical + weights. New workout clothes does wonders! (Marshall’s= $13 shorts and a $13 Puma tank)

I am making brownies for the club of students that I sponsor. And I found a ton of dresses for teaching at Marshall’s.. each $16. PLUS: NU plays Syracuse tonight. Go Wildcats! Despite the heat, the weekend is going well.

And I do love that swimsuit for Brooke.

Reply

Zebras are my fave too! I ran 12 miles yesterday and it was TOUGH! Hope you have a good long run x

Reply

I LOVE zoos! I’m holding out on the Philly Zoo until I have someone fun to go with me.

Long run was 10 miles today. It was not perfect, and it drained everything out of me, so I’m enjoying a lazy afternoon with my balcony door open on my couch.

Reply

I spent the morning volunteering at the Color Run so I was a blue Smurf allll morning. I skipped my run for a much needed shower/scrubbing so will have to run tomorrow afternoon after work. I am sweating just thinking about how hot it is going to be!

Reply

Brooke in that swimsuit… OMG, I die every time I see it. She is SO cute!

Reply

I had a 15 miler this morning in some rain. Last long run before my half I’m attempting to PR at next Sunday.
Worked this morning then spent the afternoon shopping with my mom. Talk about perfect!
Those pretzels are always in my cart at TJ’s.

Reply

Can’t wait to hear how your run went and how far you ran!

Reply

19 miler this morning; my longest yet! I am looking forward to my favorite niece’s birthday :D

Reply

Okay, is it JUST me, or was the zebra in the picture REALLY stripey? Am I crazy?

Reply

10 in Dallas! It was 86 degrees! Too hot!

Reply

My run was 17.6 miles in the Blue Ridge Relay! So much fun!

Today, I am looking forward to icing my legs and watching Gilmore girls and not getting up from the couch.:)

Reply

My long run was only 10 miles this weekend, but it was great. My mom ran two of the miles with me!

Reply

I’m the opposite of your SIL :) I microwave my cereal! And not just oatmeal. I like it soggy and hot. I guess I’m strange :)

Reply

Frozen fruit works much better than ice cubes. Frozen blueberries or strawberries are my favorite!

Reply

That burrito looks so good, yum!

Reply

An easy 6 miler this weekend.

No other big plans.
