Back on the Diet Coke Bandwagon.

Remember that one time I quit diet coke for a solid three years?  Well, that all ended when everything happened a few weeks ago.

I am back to diet coke and I am giving myself until the divorce is finalized to keep drinking it and then I will quit again.

Three reasons why I am back to my dear friend DC (or diet pepsi but preferably diet coke ((throw in some vanilla and I am in heaven)) for the time being:

1.  It is always there for me.

2.  Caffeine is necessary when I don’t sleep well anymore.

3.  It makes me happy.  I am focusing on doing things that make me happy for the next little while.

Yesterday at approximately 1:31 p.m.:

IMG 1527

The sister and I went to Costco yesterday to get some stuff for dinner and I walked out with three of the absolute softest blankets you will ever meet in your life.  One for me, one for my sis and one for my mom.

If the Oprah Show was still on and she still did her ‘Favorite Things’ episode I guarantee these blankets would be on her list because they are that amazing.  My mom said she had never felt something so soft in her life.

IMG 1541

We all went back to my sister’s house and Brooke took a nap (did you know Brooke has her own bedroom at my sister’s house? They really like her a lot and we are there a lot) and I was able to go do some church things until she woke up.

Peaceful.

I got back just in time to see my BIL’s awesome chef skills.

And Brooke and I really helped out by eating chips while sitting on the ground.

IMG 1545

The dinner bell.   I didn’t know that people still did this…I thought it ended in the early 1900’s but it worked last night….everyone ran up when they heard it.

Chicken and potato burritos with pico and cucumbers.

And you know that ice cream happened later on last night with my mom at the kitchen counter.  I told you, I am doing things that make me happy.

Hours of sleep? I think 8.

Least healthy habit? Dessert daily. Usually twice a day.

You only live once I say. Might as well enjoy it.

Reply

Hours of sleep is probably 6-7 + a nap. My unhealthily (I have to just pick one….?) habit is also diet soda in any form or fashion. Currently I’m off caffeine, but not forever!

Reply

I love diet coke and agree that it is the little things that make us happy. It is the only soda I like. I have to get up in the early 4’s to run and someways diet coke is what motivates me to get myself out of bed. Pretty sad, but it works.

Reply

I use soda to cope with a baby who hates sleep. I don’t care if Coke can clean a toilet or whatever, it’s delicious.

Where did your niece get that “Cosmo is my hero” shirt? I’d love to get that for my daughter because that’s my husband’s call sign.

Reply

I’ve never really been a soda drinker, but occasionally I’ll sip on diet coke. Maybe like once every few months. I’m more of a coffee drinker.
My least healthy habit is probably that I love condiments a bit too much. Ketchup is so darn good.
And I only got 4 hours sleep last night…um yah, not that fun;)

Reply

If diet coke makes you happy, drink up! :)

Hours of sleep…maybe around 6… Never enough!

I am not a big soda drinker but will have one every once in a while. I do drink coffee every morning, more for the taste than for the caffeine. It just helps the morning at work go by a little better.

Most unhealthy habit…DESSERT! I must have it…everyday! 99% of the time, dessert is ice cream. It makes me happy too :).

Did your little girl fit in one leg hole in the shopping cart? lol so tiny!!!! Princess here must get 8 hours of sleep to be able to focus at work. Its not a maybe, its a must. Being from the south my husband drinks coke religiously. Like that’s all he drinks from breakfast to dinner, no water just coke. Boy be cray

That is a Costco cart my friend – double wide kid seats. ;)

Coke is where it’s at!! I need it here and there for headaches and happiness to. How come Diet Coke vs regular? Is it the calories? Because I’m pretty sure you burn way more than you consume :)
Your beautiful daughter has got to be your greatest encouragement right now, she is darling!!
Praying for you!! Enjoy that soda!!

Reply

Not a soda drinker here, but you just keep doing things that make you happy! I’ve got to get to Costco and check out those blankets!

Reply

I drink diet coke because when I give it up, I replace it with candy! Now I have 5 extra pounds on me!

Reply

I will occasionally drink soda (aka pop for me). I don’t care for pepsi or coke but really like Dr. Pepper and Birch Beer. I think the least healthy thing I do is smother everything in cheese — I can’t stop and I won’t stop. I think I slept for 6 hours but certainly could have used another two. I don’t drink any caffeine and I figure that since I’ve made it this far in life without getting hooked I should continue to avoid it.

My grandmother always had a dinner bell!

Reply

1) I gave up Coke Zero years ago, too. It still makes me sad sometimes because I totally loved it too! Every once in awhile I’ll let myself have some- especially when I feel down or super tired!

2) Least healthy habit- I have to have my glass or 2 of wine every night. I don’t eat ice cream or dessert much, and I don’t like candy much. But I get cranky without my nightcap to unwind before bed.

3)Random, but I’ve been looking into buying a treadmill recently, and I stumbled upon this treadmill for little kids! It made me think of you and Brooker! How CUTE would it be for her to run on a baby treadmill next to you while you ran on yours?!

I use to be the DC girl …one a day keeps Kathy happy…but not any more. I am all about coffee. (At least 3 cups a day..with a splash of sugar free french vanilla creamer…love!)

Curly just keeps getting cuter doesn’t she?

Not unhealthy ~ but I need to get healthier but mixing in more cardio workouts….

Reply

Diet Pepsi is my favorite, I drink way more than I should.

I can’t buy Nutella because I will eat the entire jar myself. It’s truly dangerous.

Somewhere between 6 and 7 hours last night. They weren’t very sound, though.

Reply

AHHHHH this is SO timely! I just recently fell off the wagon too. After a long camping excursion (loads of fun, loads of rain) for some reason, all I wanted was a DC despite having sworn them and their brethren off ages ago. It was AMAZING. I figure that it’s okay, I’ll cut them out again, but for now, they’re just SO good. Plus, you’re lucky- the US has so many types to choose from. I’d do just about anything for a Coke Zero Vanilla right now!

Reply

I actually don’t drink soda after I drank way too much one summer at work. It’s no longer something that’s appealing to me. That being said, if I’m upset about something, I will do whatever it takes to make myself feel better. Cupcakes ice cream Mac and cheese and running are my go-to things. It’s all about finding what works. The way I see it is that it’s temporary!

Reply

I’ve posted this on my blog several times but I am such a fan of diet soda. I like coke zero vanilla personally but I’ve drank diet colas far before I blog. I have no regrets.

My least healthy habit is after races I always have a gas station coffee filled with more whip cream then coffee. Oh well. People assume I drink so much coffee but when half if it is filled with whip cream…I guess it doesn’t count. I guess.

Reply

Not a soda drinker but I cannot start my day without coffee! And I don’t even feel bad about it :)

Reply

I try to get at least 7hrs of sleep a night.
I also got off the Diet Pepsi/coke wagon and switched to seltzer which helped. Carbonation is what I craze. I do allow myself one EVERY time I race. Its all I ever want after a race. After my half ironman I crossed the finish line, jumped in the ice bath and asked for a diet coke.
Caffeine really has no effect on me so I could go with or without it.
Unhealthy habit is the amount of candy I eat. No joke! My kids are even grossed out by it. That’s saying something.

Reply

Diet coke not only makes me happy but it keeps me sane….it’s the hardest thing in the world for me to quit! Keep doing the things that make you happy, life’s to short to deprive yourself of the small things!

Love the skirt, where is it from?

Reply

I’m not a huge soda drinker but if I do have one, it’s usually root beer!
I don’t know what my least healthy habit would be! Probably eating in excess haha. When I start something, I have to finish it, whether it’s a bag of chips, candy, anything really!
8 hours of sleep last night…which hasn’t happened in forever. It’s usually around 6!!
Not a huge fan of caffeine. I don’t drink coffee ever and maybe have tea (or root beer!) once or twice a month.

Wishing you a happy Wednesday, Janae!

Reply

If Diet Coke is your worst vice during your divorce, I think you are doing fine :) Have a great day Janae!

Reply

JANAE! i just bought one of those blankets this weekend! It seriously made my week! Or maybe my life…

Reply

People always look at me like I’m nuts when I say this, but it’s the honest truth … I’ve only had soda once in my life (and not ’til I was 25) and hated it. Water and juice all the way!

Reply

I’m a big fan of adding things to life that make us happy whenever we’re going through a rough patch. It’s the small things. And I’ve never been huge on soda (crazy, right?) but I did have a pretty big coffee problem at one point. I was drinking waaaaaay too many cups a day, not only for the caffeine, but because I love the taste. Now I try to keep it to 1 or 2 cups a day… but I’m always looking forward to them and see them as a pretty big treat.

Reply

I want to buried with a case of diet sunkist orange soda because I have a feeling that even dead I will want my nightly can of soda. I don’t care if people say it will kill me, I love the feeling of that cold, chilly, can as the condensation drips down the side, the sound of the air escaping as I pop the top for the first time, the tickle of the fizz… I will not surrender my soda.

Reply

Coca-cola is the bomb diggity! Nothing else will do. I can’t handle the diet, it gives me bad migraines. The best is the Mexican coke. It is made with real sugar and not High Fructose Corn Syrup. It really is way better. Although I haven’t had a soda in a month in a half since I cut out most added sugars. :(( I miss you my dear friend.
Least healthy habit at the moment is half and half sweet unsweet tea mix. Sweet tea in the south is really good but very very sweet.

A little more than 5 hours. I really need 8-9 to feel fully functioning.

Caffeine, yes! Either in tea, soda or chocolate form. I am no a real coffee person.

Reply

My least healthy habit is that I eat dessert nightly. And not a dark cocoa square of organic chocolate. Like dessert. Cookies, m&ms, ice cream, you name it. I don’t drink caffeine every day but last night I got about 5 hours of sleep so it was needed. Enjoy the diet coke. I am all for doing what makes you happy :)

Reply

I HAVE THAT BLANKET! best purchase ever :)

Reply

i used to be a big diet soda drinker but stopped about 2 years ago. i still have one occasionally but much prefer regular coke these days if i go for one! do stuff that makes you happy. like the young ones say… YOLO.

Reply

Ooooh, nothing better than a soft blanket — especially now that the weather is turning snuggly! Maybe it will even help you sleep a bit better :)

I love a good cup of coffee in the morning & a cup of tea at night, but I stay away from soda/pop for the most part.

Reply

Oh me and diet sodas go way back. I have kicked it a few times but it always seems to come back to me :( One day I will kick it for good but for now…oh well!

Reply

I use to love everything about cream soda! That and grape soda, well any soda really. I use to just be an addict haha. Least unhealthy habit, the never ending vengeance that granola bars have on me, all their corn syrupy-ness. About 7 1/2 hours, I need to get into bed sooner, I NEED 8 hours haha, but I don’t think it would matter when I went to bed, I always wake up through out the night a lot. I’m not a huge caffeine drinker, it keeps me up all night.

Reply

Doing what makes you happy is a great way to live your life! Especially if it’s not hurting anyone else.

I don’t drink soda very often. Like maybe once or twice a month. And then I almost never finish it. I like it the first few drinks and then I’m over it. I use to have to have my Diet Dr. Pepper every single day. Usually two cans a day.

My least healthy habit would be sugar. I have too much of it. But I am trying really hard to limit it.

I got 7.75 hours last night. I aim for 7-8 hours every night and get it most nights. It really makes a world of difference for me if I can get it in.

Caffeine…..yay! Mine comes in the form of a large cup of coffee every morning. I usually only have the one, but occasionally a second happens. I can’t have caffeine after 2 PM or I won’t be able to get to sleep until after midnight. I’m old.

Reply

Good for you! I can think of some really bad things you could be doing right now. If diet coke is the worst vice you have, it’s no problem sister.
Sending you virtual hugs and will be praying for you!

Reply

Oh heavens…it is Diet Coke for me and I havetried to quit like a million times but have never been successful! I can’t believ eyou were able to for 3 years. I don’t think having it every once in awhile is bad…but we are talking 3 or 4 cans a day!…it is either all or nothing for me :). I got 7 hours of sleep last night. I have gone running yet because I think I might be injured and it is sort of freaking me out a little!!!!

Reply

I am also an ex-diet coke addict. It used to be literally all I drank from the time I woke up until the time I went to bed. I have stopped buying it so I never have it in my house. But once in a while I will treat myself. The best is fountain diet coke. best.

Reply

I don’t drink soda anymore, but I was addicted in high school/college. Mountain Dew was my favorite. Now I can hardly stand it!

I do thrive on a small, daily dose of caffeine in the form of coffee. I can’t drink more than half a cup or it gives me the jitters, but without that seemingly insignificant amount my day just doesn’t seem complete.

Reply

Hm, which habit is more unhealthy: regularly buying Toll House dough at the store and eating it straight out of the packet every night (sometimes even before breakfast), or scraping the butter out of the bottom of popcorn bags (the movie theater butter kind)…

Reply

I get 6-7 hours of sleep a night. I try to go by feel. I’ve never been a “needs 8 hrs a night” person. Even when I let myself try to sleep longer, I wake up right around 7 hours.

I kind of hate bubbly things – it’s true! I have tried Diet Coke and one time after a long run I craved it. I put lime in it. IDK. I don’t think it’s for me. I want to like it though.

Oh caffiene. What a weird thing. I go back and forth. I never had any growing up (or soda) and I can go weeks without it and then suddenly realize my tea has some (I like herbals, sometimes have green). I tried coffee. Not good! I actually tried it again yesterday and it made my heart feel like it was racing so I threw it out! So yeah, I try to keep it to a very dull roar, if at all.

Reply

I can’t do diet anything, but I do enjoy latte’s and iced coffees. Or I’m trying to get back into tea with the weather cooling down!! I also will not turn down anything sweet!

Reply

I haven’t been sleeping well lately so I made sure that I was in bed with the lights out around 10. I got 7 1/2 ish hours which is really good for me lately. I should really go to bed on time more often. I think it’s good to do what makes you happy. I don’t drink soda often. I used to have 1 or 2 a day now it’s more like maybe 1 a month.

Reply

I used to drink soda, but now I’m basically just a water girl. I do have a very soft spot for lemonade and I loooove it. When I first moved here, I couldn’t sleep…for months. It was terrible and so hard, so I really feel for you if you’re not sleeping well. I hope it gets better soon (mine took forever to get back to normal, but it did eventually).

Reply

Good for you!!! I am so so so glad you are doing the things that bring you happiness…you deserve it but not just during this rough time-all the time!! I hope you will continue to do things that make you happy once the divorce is finalized, even if includes diet coke every so often ;)

My parents go to Costco a lot, I’ll have to have them look for the soft blankets even though I don’t really need any more than the three I have at the end of my bed already ;)

I have lots of ‘bad’ habits, one of them being my intense addiction to sugar! I laugh when people are like “sometimes…I eat candy THREE TIMES A WEEK! Rebel!!” and I’m thinking, yeah, I have it every SINGLE day :) But it makes me happy…and I don’t think I could EVER fully quit Diet Dr Pepper. I’m pretty sure it runs through my veins at this point!!

But coffee…still hate it. Unless it’s iced and has a ton of cream and sugar ;)

Reply

Girl, you deserve as much (vanilla) diet coke as you want : )

I have a big residency board exam coming up, so I’ve been averaging 4-6 hours of sleep a night and working 12-13 hours a day. That translates into a LOT of caffeine. Definitely addicted. I can tell you right now, I am NOT going to be a pleasant person to be around whenever I get pregnant and have to cut back/eliminate caffeine. I already feel sorry for anyone who will have to interact with me.

Reply

Least healthy habit= being too hard on myself.

When we speak of health are we talking about mental, physical, emotional, or all of the above? I do pretty well with all of them and could definitely improve, yet it’s being too hard on myself that really impacts my overall health.

Is anyone else out there in this group?

Oh, and I generally do not like soda, but I also drink and eat whatever is around to blend in. That means right now soda and dessert is a reality. When we move to the ocean (soon!) that won’t be the case.

Reply

I have a deep affection for Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet Pepsi. I’ve kicked them to the curb a few times, but I always seem to invite them back into my life.

Since I work 12 hour shifts, go to school full time, and have two kids, caffeine is pretty darn necessary at times. I try to avoid coffee unless I really need it, so when I do, it’s a bigger kick in my pants.

Sleep? As my mom always says, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” The baby is teething and I may have gone to bed at eleven and been up at 5:30, but it was certainly not a solid six hours. Today is a school day, so probably it’ll also be a coffee day.

Reply

Okay, since I don’t drink alcohol, Diet Coke is my treat on the weekends. And if yuo have never been to a resturand that has one of these you MUST put it on your bucket list! You can get Diet Coke in flavor that are not on the grocery store shelves. LIFE changing! :-) It makes me happy, so I know it will make you happy, too. http://www.coca-colafreestyle.com/

If you ever come my way, we can run and then I will treat you to one! :-)

Reply

I have never been a soda drinker. I do enjoy a nice diet orange soda and diet coke from time to time!

Least healthy… splenda.

Sleep = 6 maybe.

Reply

Our family calls those blankets the ” butter” blanket, named by my youngest daughter. We all love them!!

I love diet coke and for years drank caffeine free diet coke or Pepsi but am newly hooked on Coke Zero. It’s terrible but it makes me happy!!
If it makes you happy drink as much as you need!!

Reply

I’m not really a soda drinker. But I used to be a caffeine addict, in the form of coffee. I gave it up over a year ago when I was trying to get pregnant. And I rarely drank it during my pregnancy … maybe a couple times a month. Now, I really really want to drink it again. Mostly just because I like coffee. But I don’t want to get addicted again. I think maybe I need to go buy some decaf! :)

Reply

I do like Diet Cherry Pepsi, although I drink less than one per day. I got about 7 hours of sleep last night, which is kind of amazing since I was up at 4! Caffeine is pretty much necessary.

Reply

I shouldn’t encourage unhealthy behavior…but since you’re drinking diet coke again, try this: http://www.ourbestbites.com/2013/07/dirty-diet-coke/ Seriously awesome!!! It’s been my summer guilty pleasure. I now make my own coconut syrup with sugar, water and coconut extract. Really – try it out!!

Reply

I love Dirty Cokes but I use SF syrup with mine! Delish!! :-)

Reply

In Canada we call it pop. I like regular Coke, but I’ve cut down drastically how often I drink any kind of pop. I drink one cup of coffee a day, with chocolate almond milk in it, with my breakfast. Yum! Least healthy habit…my love of chocolate! And last night I actually slept 9.5 hours! I’ve been sick, so it was cold medicine induced.

Reply

I usually sleep less than that though, due to my body’s love of 3am insomnia.

Reply

I say do what makes you happy! I gave up soda in 2009 and haven’t touched it since!
I have a blanket like that and I love it! I use it everyday and it’s starting to get worn out – time for a new one!

Reply

I just rejoined the diet coke bandwagon too after being home all summer and once school started back up, forget about it! I need the caffeine. I wish they still made the vanilla too. It was my favorite. I feel like I run, eat healthy, rarely drink, and don’t do drugs. It’s my once vice. I do need to stop once my little boy realizes it because I don’t want him drinking it.

Reply

I <3 dr. Pepper. Definitely my least healthy habit. Add flavored coffee, candy and chips to that and its a huge thing I haven't died of sugar overdose.

After this eventful week. I'm quitting pop. I decided.

Caffeine is a must with a 1 year old that hasn't slept more than 5 or 6 hours ever.

I slept 5 hours last night.

Reply

HAHA I had to smile when I read thing because I too am drinking a diet coke! I feel guilty because everyone tells me how bad it is and I’ve read so much not to mention, I quit for a year. But I totally agree… it makes me happy.

Reply

Sometimes you just gotta do what makes you happy, Janae! I’m glad you are embracing it for now! You go girl : )

I love DC, but unfortunately the fake sugars in it don’t love my stomach.. I always end up bloated and cramping! Ugh! So annoying. It’s probably a good thing, since it forces me NOT to drink it often…

Least healthy habit = umm. probably on the days where I eat entire packages of cookies or a half gallon of ice cream at a time. what can i say, i have a sweet tooth (or 6)

Reply

I had stopped drinking Diet Coke for 2 years but for some reason the only thing I craved during my hot, sweaty runs this summer was having an ice cold DC when I finished. So yep, back on the Diet Coke bandwagon, and ya know what? I love it. :-)

I got about 7 hours of sleep last night. I guess I average about 6-8.

Curly is a Cutie!

Not a big soda drinker, but I do love my caffeine in the form of coffee. I try to keep it to just one cup in the morning, but sometimes I have some in the afternoon too. Least healthy habit is probably all the fancy coffee drinks! But, they are just too darn expensive haha

While you are on the DC bandwagon you need to try a dirty diet coke! They are delicious!!

I don’t do soda but I certainly drink a lot of coffee and I enjoy a diet snapple every now and then.

Reply

I really only drink diet coke and sprite or fresca. I try to limit myself to one soda a day.

Least healthy habit- snacking

I slept about 8 hours but very interrupted, my puppy didn’t do great last night.

Caffeine…..yay — but not after noon, or I won’t sleep. I only drink diet coke or tea (hot or cold)

Reply

Diet coke is my weakness too!

I don’t really care for carbonation in general, so soda isn’t something that tempts me at all. My worst habits are more like my addiction to sweet things and the amount of time I procrastinate stuff.

I used to drink pop, but I haven’t for the last few years. I used to miss it, but not anymore.

Dr. Pepper preferably fountain style is my go to comfort when things get hard. And right now my grandpa is very sick with cancer and on his last days and I am living off Dr. P….. I used to drink Diet Coke like it was my job, but then gave it up in favor of seltzer or sparkling water instead. It’s not the same, but it’s definitely healthier.

No caffeine for me. I have meniere’s disease, so caffeine can give me a vertigo episode like nobody’s business…man this comment is a downer so far.

My least healthy habit is probably sweet delicious candy.

Reply

Um, don’t worry. I already told my family in Orem they need to buy me one of those blankets stat.

I used to be a 6-pack/day of Diet Dr. Pepper. I quite cold turkey in January. I drink Fresca as my soda fix. However, after a long run the ONLY thing I crave is a regular Coke. Why is that? I allow myself to have it since I worked so hard :) As for caffeine…YES YES YES!!! I drink at least two cups of strong, black coffee every morning, and sometimes more. I go to sleep a night in order to wake up for coffee, haha.

Side note…wanna give me one of those blankies?! I love soft blankets and can’t wait to start using them in the fall :)

Reply

I used to drink the good ol’ DC WAY too much in college…. Like all day every day. I don’t make it a habit anymore, but I do enjoy one every once in awhile if I’m in the mood and/or need a little caffeine boost. Good for you to do things that make you happy right now. :) xoxo

Love the fountain picture. Utah is so foreign to me, but you’re making me so interested in visiting. plus the trails look AMAZING to run on. and If diet coke makes you happy, keep it to one a day. I do the same with my coffee. One a day. :)

Reply

I’ve been off diet sodas for about 4 years now. I’m afraid if I have one it’ll be over. But my least healthy habit that has probably taken its place is eating pb out of a jar with a spoon or finger lol … it gets out of hand sometimes.

Yes, good for you for doing stuff that makes you happy. You deserve all the happiness in the world. Now is the most important time to take special care of you.

I’m wanting one of those blankets right now!

Reply

I’m right there with you. Diet cokes are my one consistent unhealthy habit. I wish I could kick the habit, but I love them too much (and NO diet pepsi, it has to be diet coke!) Can I tell you that you had my favorite snack-diet coke and Mission tortilla strips. You are a girl after my own heart!! I maybe average 5-6 hrs of sleep at night because I choose to stay up a little later then I need too and I have to get up early for work. So I’m always tired-lol!

Reply

I am a huge Mountain Dew drinker! Probably the worst soda ever, but it is so good… hahah.

If Diet Coke is your worst vice during such a difficult time, I’d say you’re way ahead of the game and drink up! :)
I drink one cup of coffee every morning – in all honesty, I don’t really even like it but need the caffeine boost and don’t like cold drinks in the a.m.

Reply

Caffeine yes. I am the coffee queen. I literally only drink coffee and water. Not a fan of pop or juice.

Reply

Yes to caffeine.

Funny you mentioned diet coke today as I was just thinking to myself I have an addiction to carbonation. I was big into diet coke but my husband pleaded with me to stop because of aspartame. I still drink it every now and then. Lately
I crave a super fizzy Dr. Pepper. Talk about sugar overload. Sometimes to lessen the sugar I buy pellegrino and add a splash of cranberry or cherry juice. So good. But
Lacking caffeine!

Reply

According to FITBIT 7:06 hours of sleep at 95% whatever that means. I love my coffee. Two cups in the morning and sometimes one in the afternoon. Least healthy habit candy, I eat it everyday.

OH Diet coke is my vice for sure!! If I’m having a bad day i get a diet coke and suddenly I feel better.
Have you tried it dirty? Add coconut syrup and lime.

Caffeine? I have twins.. duh. ;)

I have multiple soft&fuzzy blankets that I brought with me to college here in Bozeman! It gets SO COLD so if my blankets are scratchy, it’s horrible! My micro-bead plush blanket is sooooooooooo soft.

Reply

My fiance is addicted to Pepsi Max (calorie free but more caffeine), he drinks it all day long but since he doesn’t drink alcohol or have other bad habits I can’t really say much. I like soda and will drink it maybe 2-3 times a week for the caffeine and for the carbonation.

My mom still has a dinner bell at her house. She used it when we were kids playing outside to bring us in for dinner, and even when we were in the house- it got us out of our rooms or the basement when it was time.

Reply

I love coffee, have it every morning.

Funny you ask about sleep.. maybe 4 hours? my 8 month old is sick and my husband was up ALL night holding him upright to try and sleep, of course even though he was letting me sleep I was up trying to help / worrying/ being a new mom hah.

Reply

I think it is great you are making yourself happy!

Least healthy habit is cherry coke, seriously delicious!!

Reply

I try to drink only Zevia or Stevia sweetened sodas now, but the Cranberry Ginger Ale at the holidays has my name written ALL over it. I drink it straight from the two liter bottle, it’s that bad. I get about 7 hours of sleep a night thanks to ZZquil. I can’t sleep without it because I have so much anxiety and things about my knee. If I don’t take it, I end up waking up in the middle of the night crying so it’s a necessity.

OMG i went to costco and came out with same royal blue blanket for me and the cat

And I keep trying to give up DC but I just can’t. I don’t drink any other artificial drinks, so I guess I’ll keep my treats

Reply

I’m with everyone that says if DC is the worst thing you’ve got right now, by all means – you go for it! As for soda, I drink enough wine for that to be a vice but not so big on soda – even though we have a SODA FOUNTAIN for free at work! Thankfully, we also have a coffee maker – I need some caffeine but I try to stick to one cup a day :).

Hm.. may need to get one of those blankets – my new place is looking in need of a fluffy blanket! As for sleep, I’d love to get more but I think it’s usually around 6-7, varying upon the day. Btw, the pink shirt = amazing.

Reply

Keep drinking Diet Coke for as long as you need to and don’t feel bad about it-I remember the post where you talked about your previous addiction to it… believe me, this is a whole different situation, so if that’s what is helping you feeling at least a little bit better, just go for it. Soda is not the best thing for you but I think you could be doing much, much worse things to cope with the pain… I’ll make sure to have a diet coke ready for you when you’ll be finally be in NYC in October ;) BTW, I do worse than you: I rarely drink soda but, when I do, I go for the regular, sugary Coke (must be Coke, I despise Pepsi). And I drink one cup of coffee per day, two if I’m feeling exhausted. Can’t start my day without coffee!!!

Reply

I know it’s probably not great for me, but I just can’t quit Coke Zero. I just try to make sure I get all the water I’m supposed to get in addition to the CZ. It’s also one of the main reason’s I’ve never gone along with a paleo challenge at my gym. (That, and the fact that carbs are delicious.)

Reply

Apologizing RIGHT NOW for that misplaced apostrophe. Not sure what happened but it’s already driving me crazy. :O

Reply

I am actually on Day 3, of no diet coke..we will see how long it lasts.. :)

Reply

I’m also back on the bandwagon with ya, sista! The way I look at it: sure, it’s not the best thing in the world for us… but we’re also poisoned by non-organic foods, hairspray, car air conditioning, the list goes on and on!

Reply

Don’t worry, I too am back on the diet soda wagon after not drinking it for a year! I am now drinking it 1x/day and I know its because I am stressed right now. It’s horrible and I will stop again but it’s just a nice little treat in the afternoon:) Especially Sonic Diet Coke with extra Vanilla…yum!

My Mom got one of those blankets and love it too! Now, I think I need one:)

I got little sleep last night:( My nephew was tossing and turning and I was nervous he would fall out of bed, so I didn’t get much sleep either.

Happy Hump Day:)

Reply

Ya know…if Diet Coke it the worst “bad habit” to help get you through this time in your life then so be it! NO GUILT just GLORY lady! :-) I want one of those blankets btw….it looks so snuggly and wonderful! XO

Reply

With an 8 month old that doesn’t sleep through the night, caffeine is definitely my friend.

Not big on soda but my favorites are Root Beer (I think it’s a NEPA thing) and Cherry Pepsi.

I def need those blankets in my life.

Keep doing whatever makes you happy!!

Reply

if diet coke is your bad habit then you are doing fine! I love me some DC on occasion. Regular coke is chalky and gross.. Lets see my bad habits : Can i confess that I like spam? It is so disgusting and vile and unhealthy and un appealing yet when you fry that sucker up – its delicious. It’s a once a year thing on our big block island trip- very strange, I know.

Reply

I cannot live without caffeine. Perhaps it is because I am in graduate school but I am practically mainlining the stuff. Although I have been doing that forever so….

Give yourself some Grace! We always do it for other people and not for ourselves.

Reply

I have never been a soda drinker, but I totally agree, do what makes you happy girl! You deserve it!!

Reply

You should and deserve to do things that make you happy, nurture yourself. Usually I dont drink soda however when we go out to mexican food I always have a diet whatever, hopefully its a diet pepsi. My worst thing I do and it is only once or twice a year ~ McDonald french fries dipped in their tarter sauce. Its really good and really bad. I love the idea of the dinner bell saves on a having a bunch of yelling:) Have a great day!

Reply

I’m not a soda drinker at all (not that I don’t LOVE diet coke) because I have acid reflux and the carbonation is too much. My most unhealthy habit would probably be my love for Froyo! I REALLY love candy but never buy it so froyo is my time to eat it… haha.

Reply

Too funny! I am a diet Coke addict as well! Love it! (At Costa Vida they have an awesome machine that mixes in flavors!! I love the rasberry!!) As a fellow addict I, too, quit and then quit-quitting depending on my life circumstance. I am now in the mode where I am 3 days clean and sober… I have passed the wanting-to-die headache phase so we’ll see how long this one lasts. I can totally relate! Keep up the good fight!

Reply

I love the tshirt little curly is wearing and I actually get it :)
Have a super day cute little lady!

Reply

Girl, you deserve as much DC as you want! It’s one of my favorite things in life, sad to say. Get the “dirty” Diet Coke at Swig next time you’re in St. George (along with a sugar cookie). It will rock your world!

Reply

I don’t like stuff with artificial sweeteners. They actually might increase your appetite and are even used for fattening pigs.
I don’t believe in “diet” food at all. You can eat everthing in moderation.

Reply

I also just wanted to say that I fully support your return to Diet Coke! Get it, girl.

Reply

Yay for caffeine! And Double YAY for fountain Coke! I’m addicted and have no plans to wean myself. Life is just too short, and there’s nothing like a bubbly Coke after a long run to replenish all of the lost salt. I’m not a big fan of Diet soda because of the artifical sweeteners and after taste. Gimme the fully loaded any day!

Reply

Enjoy that Diet Coke!! I used to drink it every day (and coffee and tea) until caffeine started making me deathly ill! I black out, hive up, and get super sick. It’s the most bizarre thing!

In other news, you and Brooke always have on the cutest outfits!!

Reply

Chocolate is my weakness.

And SUPER YAY to caffeine!!

Reply

Since you drinking DC again, try a dirty DC or jacked DC. It is fabulous. I go there anytime I’m having a bad day. I go to slurp in AF on main street/state street.

Reply

Oh those blankets do look comfy…too bad it is still in the 100s in AZ. I can’t wait for cooler weather.

Reply

Oh dear! I was just about to ask you about how you quit drinking Pepsi/Coke. I have a serious Pepsi Max addiction, well, it would be no where near a lot of other people but I still consume too much. I have recently been diagnosed with osteopenia at 27 and have three stress fractures, one of which is in my spine. Pepsi/Coke is doubly bad for our bones due to its caffeine and phosphorus content, but I feel DEAD without my “fix” combined with no running. I’m starting to commiserate with smokers; I pour a glass and imagine my bones dissolving and I still drink it.

Reply

I used to be a crazy Pepsi drinker but after I had my kids, it gave me major heartburn so I gave it up about 2 years ago. Now if i have a sip of anything it’s the grossest thing in the world!

Worst Habit- I have so many, but my absolute worst is plucking my eyebrows to death. I do it while I’m at work on conference calls. Horrible but I love it!

Sleep- Girl, I gotta have my sleep. I’m looking for my bed every night about 9 PM. I’m a total party pooper, but with 7-year old twin boys, I think I’ve earned it!

I just love you and think you are precious. Anything that helps you smile right now is totally acceptable! You’re amazing and you will get through!

Reply

That’s funny – I just bought 4 of those blankets this weekend for Christmas gifts :)

Reply

I would have to say that my worst habit is chewing sugar free gum all. the. time. I try to cut back but I enjoy chewing gum at work so much that it’s hard to stop!! I’m a “chain chewer”…haha.

Reply

I don’t blame you about the diet coke… I had quit diet sodas about a year ago and two weeks ago I cracked an started up again because of some stressful times.. But I remind myself that diet Coke/sodas addiction are not nearly as bad as an Alcohal addiction!… Running and diet Coke are always there for me too!… God bless! Hope things get better!…

If Diet Dr. Pepper is wrong…I don’t want to be right.

Diet coke, diet mountain dew, and diet pepsi will due if my beloved DDP is not available.

Reply

Whatever makes you happy is DEF something to go for! I like diet coke once in awhile, but caffeine REALLY affects me, so I can’t drink it after 1 pm or else my sleep gets screwey.

I sleep 9-10 hrs/night….I have really good sleep genes. Hah. Hoping baby girl gets those genes…..

Hugs to you!! <3

Reply

I have one diet coke a day, every now and then I’ll have a second one, but the one keeps me focused and happy. I also have one cup of coffee in the morning. Thank goodness for one cup coffee makers, it is so much easier to control my caffeine!

Reply

I love love love Diet Coke. I have tried to quit a couple times over the years and just realized – it’s not happening!
I get an average of 6-7 hours of sleep a night if I sleep through.
Caffiene fo sure!!! Coffee and PSLs!

Reply

I don’t even pretend that I am going to quit Diet Coke. I can, and I have, but I don’t even want to. It may be a crutch but I don’t have that many vices and this one makes me happy. I think it helps that I balance it out by drinking plenty of water. It did make me laugh that I was sipping on my Will’s Diet Coke while reading this post.

Reply

I have one of those blankets, too! It’s seriously the softest thing I have ever felt!

Reply

I used to drink diet pepsi a LOT in highschool and college and would still buy it occassionally in the years since, but we stopped buying it for the house about a year or so ago and now the only time I drink it is if I am very sick to my stomach, and I’ll have a sprite zero. That’s maybe a handful of times a year, though.

i would die without my morning coffee so YES to caffeine, lol

Reply

I gave up soda a few years ago and I still miss it!

Reply

I’ve actually never had a coke or diet coke in my life. Hate the flavor.

Least healthy habit? Probably beating myself up.

I probably slept for seven-ish hours last night.

Reply

Hate diet coke out of a can but out of the fountain it’s heaven. I am no stranger to polar pops or as my friends and I call them pola popz. We’re almost 30 so were really cool obviously :)

Reply

Gave up soda/caffeine 6 years ago.
I did love Mello Yello and diet coke with lime

Least healthy habit…donut cravings

9 hours last night!

*http://expertbrand.com- is where I’ve been getting great new running gear for fall!

Reply

You go Girl! Drink that DIet Coke!

My least healthy habit is probably my negative self talk! Someone else tell me that its your worst habit too?!

I slept about 6 hours last night. My body loves 8.

I love caffeine and either have an iced coffee in the morning or a few cups of tea. Mmmmm.

I’m off to Coatco right now!

Reply

Good for you for doing that church stuff. I’m sure it’s helping you during this tough time. I need to do it more…thanks for your example. Stay strong girl. And yes, I think you definitely deserve to focus on you and what makes you happy for awhile.

Reply

If diet coke makes your day a little brighter, go for it!! I quit drinking diet coke/soda about two years ago. I still have one every now and then and I still LOVE it! And a fountain diet coke – even better! I won’t even consider giving up coffee, though. Six hours of sleep is not enough, so the coffee is a must!

Reply

The occasional diet coke makes me happy, so I’m not about to cut it out completely. I did detox myself from it for about 3 months, but that’s because I was drinking it daily. Now I have one or two a week, which satisfies the craving.

Reply

I am a total believer in doing things that make you happy. You are such an inspiration and I so admire your bright personality!!

I love Coke! Regular, not diet. I usually have a pop (yes, I’m from Minnesota) once a week but sometimes I go weeks without having it. I also have a sweet tooth and have chocolate every day and not just that one square of chocolate nonsense that people do because that’s ridiculous!

And I caffeinate by having a cup of coffee every morning. Then green tea throughout the day. Last night I got about 7 hours of sleep.

Reply

Keep doing what makes you happy! Life is too short not too!

Oh I’m an admitted diet coke addict. Its my worst habbit. But hey if thats my worst habbit I dont think I’m doing too bad! Obviously I’m pro caffeine here. Couldn’t function without it.

Last night was actually almost 8 hours of sleep!

Reply

You know I love my DMD!!!

Reply

You go ahead and guzzle that Diet Coke!!

I’m not much of a soda drinker. My worst vice is probably Egg McMuffins from McDonald’s. I get one most mornings on my way to work. I need a hot, savory breakfast everyday and don’t have time to make myself anything before rushing out the door, so McD’s usually hits the spot.

Caffeine? During the school year (I’m a teacher), YES! During vacation time, not so much.

Have a wonderful day, Janae!

Reply

I slept maybe 5-6 hrs last night. I don’t do caffeine anymore. It makes like a squirrel on crank. Scary scary stuff. I think my sleep resistance is probably my most unhealthy habit.

Reply

Um… Can’t get over how cute you are. Ok… I’m giving myself till your divorce is finale, and then I’m giving up DC too. Gotta get off this yummy crap. :)

Reply

Least healthy habit….well i have a lot but im right there with you w the DC love… i gave it up for lent once and then was good with it for awhile but now i always get it…especially when im out somewhere…panera/chipotle/pizza place etc.

~ 7 hours of sleep last night but it was bad sleep- i need more!

Caffeine…..yay- but not too much. when i was in PA school i got legit addicted to it and if i didnt have any i would get migraines…so i stopped. now i just drink 1 cup max of coffee/tea a day

Reply

caffeine in coffee form is a definite MUST in the morning.

I also have a weakness for diet coke…not regular coke, don’t even try to pawn regular coke off as diet coke on me – the flavor is all wrong. I’m usually pretty good about not drinking soda, but a few times a year I’ll have my diet coke and NOT feel guilty about – enjoy life.

Reply

The cravings I get for Diet Coke are so strong. I typically save it for airplanes and when I am being sober and everyone around me is drinking. Sometimes I can crush the craving with sparkling water….sometimes.

If I do give in- has to be in a can and SUPER cold.

Reply

I am obsessed w diet coke and drink way too much of it. This post is cracking me up because 2 days ago while running in the evening I thought, ya know, I’d probably be way faster if I didn’t drink so much diet coke. I bet the hungryrunnergirl doesn’t even touch this stuff. And now this post! Ha ha! I know what you mean – I have an emotional connection with diet coke. It’s always there for me, and I just love the taste.

Reply

I must admit…I have a diet coke every now and again. Every time I hear the pop of a can in the office I tell my co-workers to quit it because then I crave it and have to have one. And now you have me craving one! So quit it ;-)

Reply

Diet Coke worst habit, and maybe raw cookie dough. I did give it up during Lent last year as a challenge from my teenage son. But, alas, the habit returned. Not every day but a few days a week. I’ve been drinking it in the morning since I was in college, too long ago to quantify, and I just can’t give it up. Probably 6 hours last night, but could use a few more. Hang in there Janae!!

Reply

I very rarely drink soda. Not a fan. I love seltzer water though :)

I’m all for doing things that make us happy. Least healthy habit, I guess is eating food that fell on the ground long after 3 second rule. I only do this at home.

I got like 5 hours of sleep last night. Got my run in this morning and have been energizing myself on green tea and Vega.
