Back in Utah again and THANK YOU.

Once again your comments and emails have helped me out so much.  I can’t thank you enough for your friendship and support.

Judging by this picture I think Brooke is officially sick of people trying to eat her cheeks every time they see her.

We are back in Utah and my sister told me that I am never allowed to leave the state again with Brooke for that long…she is quite attached to her.

My mom is super happy to have her little best buddy back too.

After taking an easier running week last week I was more than ready to get back at it yesterday with a progression run.

2 miles @ 8:30 pace

1 mile @ 8:00 pace

5 miles @ 7:24 pace

1 mile @ 6:24 pace

9 miles total and that last mile felt strangely good to get my legs turning over quickly again.

When I went over to my sister’s house to pick her up for the day she made me come inside because she had a sandwich for me to eat.

Toasted ciabatta bread, garden fresh tomatoes (the key ingredient), two fried eggs, feta cheese and roasted red pepper hummus.

Oh. my.

I could eat this lunch every day.

IMG 1215

The older kiddos were at school so the four of us went to an outdoor mall and of course Brooke had to get soaking wet and play in the splash pad.  You’re only a kid once.

How my niece now poses for every picture.

IMG 1227

When my niece and nephew got home from school they told us all about the lunch room trading that went on that day.  My nephew pretty much traded his entire lunch for 4 oreos.  Please tell me you did that as a kid too.  I think I paid $8 one time for a ding-dong in the 4th grade.

Happy Subtember was celebrated with my parents and a buffalo chicken sub for dinner.   My Dad is still rocking his weight loss and Subway is one of his favorite dinners.

IMG 1232

Afterwards my mom and I walked around and found an awesome toy store.

IMG 1237

No night out with my mom is complete without an ice cream stop.  This would be Blue Bell Birthday Cake ice cream.

PS my sister trimmed Brooke’s bangs yesterday and cut mine too.  The side swoop is back in my life.  So many drastic changes all at once;)  Who am I anymore?

It looks like quite the adventure you are having Janae. I’m glad you had a great run despite all the traveling you did. I’m not sure about my run as I’m recovering and it’s hot. I’ll probably do an easy longer run. I’m a morning person all the way…even 10 might be a little too late for me ha ha!

Reply

great pictures and glad you made it back to your home state with family!

we are actually traveling abroad in moscow, russia and it is SPECTACULAR! i have been a night owl lately because of the 9 hour time difference.

how was the blue bell birthday cake flavor? i am always tempted to get but because it’s pricey i’m nervous to take the risk (even though i know i’ll eat the whole thing anyways)!

Reply

Such a morning person! 10pm is late for me! Haha My run is going to be a repeat run.. but its going to be 90 when i run it so that’ll suck! lol Lunches have been leftovers! Boring but it works!

Glad you made it back to Utah safe with brooke :)

Can’t wait to see your new bangs!

Reply

Oh my goodness — that sandwich looks delicious!
Also, how cute is your niece’s photo pose?? Too adorable!

Have a gret day!

Reply

I bet you are so happy to be back with your family! I am DEFINITELY more of a morning person and would rather wake up early than stay up late. :)

Reply

Oops…”great” not gret…

Reply

That sandwich sounds sooo good! I love anything with feta!

Reply

I was just going to say I love how Brooke’s hair is now always ‘back.’ She looks so sophisticated. That sandwich looks great and awesome job on your run. Keep on rockin’ it, Janae!

Reply

Such a cute picture of your mom and Brooke. I think one of my favorite things about being a mom has been seeing the grandkid/grandparent relationship–it’s so sweet. :)
Way to run, girl! I love reading about all the other things you have going on, sometimes I forget this a running blog. 9 miles, so fast. You are amazing!

Reply

Totally a morning person! Hello 4am :)

Reply

I bet your family is so happy to have you back! Your sister seems awesome! Love you!

Reply

I may be technically be 24, but I am actually 84. Once 9pm rolls around I am ready to roll into bed!

I am not even kidding when I say I wish my sister would switch from nursing to hair school. Having someone to do my hair would be the best thing ever! (Since I am utterly incapable of it :))

Reply

I don’t know if I’m am early bird or night owl. I used to be a total night owl but I’m a nurse that was used to getting up at 5:30 am and now I’m a momma getting up early. So I guess an early bird?

Reply

I’m a morning person. You have me beat with 10pm. I’m in bed by 9!
I’m not sure what I’m going to run today but I need to get my butt running. I took a couple days bc of leg pain.
Glad you are back with your family!

Reply

Yum to all of the food. I was totally that kid that traded lunches. My mom always gave me the healthy stuff that I didn’t really want. It’s worth it for 4 oreos. The picture of Brooke and your mom is absolutely the cutest picture I’ve ever seen. I’m going to attempt running after a full week off due to a hamstring strain. It will be this morning or else I will never do it!

Reply

Morning person all the way! I struggle to stay up as late as my 9 month daughter, and she is usually in bed by 8. Haha! Have a good day!

Reply

I’m planning on doing 7 miles today. It’s raining now, though, so I have to decide on inside or outside miles.

I’m neither a morning or night person. I love to sleep!

Reply

Morning person!!! But that’s all history now. I have no mornings or nights. Just 24-hour days. At least until the babies are old enough to sleep through the night!!!

Reply

Lunch has been snacks for the last week or so, as we’ve been on the road. However, yesterday we had lunch at Panera. It was my first Panera visit in 15 months and I am so thankful for it! (Why doesn’t Utah have Panera?)

I’m mostly a morning person, but I’ve been a night person of late to see my hub who is a night person. It’s a bit challenging, but I’m managing.

Reply

aww glad you’re back with your family!! and any post heavy on the Brooke photos always gets my day off on the right foot- she is cutest thing everrr! ps your niece is adorable too- her new pose is hilarious!

Reply

I love Subway :). It is so nice to see you have such a great and supportive family :). Today is an easy 7.5 after 6 hard mile repeats yesterday.
The problem right now is that I am a morning and night person! I am trying to run earlier (like 6:15-6:30) so I get up about 5:45, but I keep going to bed too late like 11…..I must stop it! I am used to going to bed at like 11 and getting up at 7:30 but I want to do my runs before school now….

Reply

My husband and I are doing a 5k fun run tonight – he just recently started running so it’s especially fun to go together!

Reply

My morning person has taken a little bit of a later swing, I am more of a 7-11 girl now where i used to be a 5:30 and only make it to 9.

Lunch is my same ol salad, but favorite toppers for the moment are brown rice, avecado, feta, and crasins.

Reply

I think I’m going to do a couple slow miles today, but I’m not sure yet. I made the most incredible salad for lunch yesterday; mixed greens, grilled chicken, black beans, corn, red peppers, and salsa dressing, yummmmm. I was always a night owl growing up, but more recently I’ve found a middle ground where I neither stay up late nor wake up early. So happy to hear that you’re feeling better today!

Reply

Oh My Gosh, that sandwich your sister made you…..to die for!! Today will be a very short 2 mile, HIIT run. It’s all or nothing today, got to give it my all! I’ve been loving fresh garden cherry and pear tomatoes as a side for my lunches lately!! Defiantly a morning person! Throw any time at me and you’ll see I’ve been up at that time ;)

Reply

Glad to hear you’re back in Utah! I bet your family is happy you’re back now.
It’s so weird that I used to be a night owl then an early bird…but now I think I’m both if that’s even possible. It’s also a horrible thing to be both, but ah well.

Reply

I am definitely a morning person! By 9:30 I am searching for the bed. Today is a running rest day so I will be doing some strength training instead :)

Reply

a) I need to make that sandwich!
b) take a pic of the bangs!!

Reply

6 miles at half marathon pace. Although we are having a pretty bad lightning storm here. Hoping it ends soon as the temps are supposed to reach 90 and I don’t want to run in the heat.

Lunch is usually leftovers from dinner the night before.

I am definitely a morning person. I am ready for bed by 830pm. Although it is kind of hard because I wait tables at night.

Reply

I am definitely a morning person. Last night I got into bed at 7:30. My run today will be an easy 5 miles. I am still trying to be smart.

Reply

Total morning person! I hate lunch and never know what to eat but your sandwich actually looks appealing to me.

Reply

I am a morning runner. Today, I ran a quick 2 miles before work in 50 degree rain (it is already Fall in Boston)! Tomorrow, I will have time for a 4-5 mile run before heading into the office. The bangs looks cute:)

Reply

Today I have 10-11 easy miles on the schedule. I am not sure if I will be outside or inside though – depends if I want to sweat like crazy today. Yesterday it was 68 today it is 90!? what the heck!?

Reply

I’m a morning person too and I love your side bangs!

Reply

I wish you best of luck. I’m sure you will do great with supports from family and being in your home state.

Reply

I love that picture of Brooke in the fountain. I can’t wait to be able to do that kind of thing with Addie! :)

Reply

your sister has beautiful hair!

I feel like I am neither a morning or a night person. it takes me awhile to get up and get going, and I like going to bed early. apparently I just love my bed.

Reply

ps that sandwich looks and sounds so good.

Reply

I NEED that sandwich that your sister made!!

Reply

I am more of a night owl. Blue Bell ice cream is the best!!

Reply

I have been celebrating Subtember so much lately! I think I will try the buffalo chicken next! A few months ago I showed my hair dresser a picture of you because I wanted your bangs…they didn’t turn out nearly as nice as yours :(.

Reply

Definitely morning person. Today is an easy 3 miles. I’m really digging this tapering before the race thing :)
So glad you’re back! You have a great family.

Reply

Can’t wait to see the bangs! Brooke’s look great!

Reply

I adore the picture of your mom and Brooke! And I’ve been roasting up squashes like it’s my job lately, so it’s been making it’s way into my lunches on a regular basis.

Reply

total morning person, too. I can’t believe you make it to 10, though! I feel basically useless after 4 PM :)

Reply

I might try running down the hall again. Yesterday’s physical therapy discussion shifted from getting ready for a 5k to being able to run away from a mugger or out of the path of a bus or after an escaping child. Resetting the bar :(

Lunch lately has been whatever’s easy and that is most often a handful of some almonds and pumpkin seeds and an apple or banana. It’s getting boring and all my newly-discovered food intolerances are starting to annoy me :(

Sounds like your family is the BEST healing medicine ever :) have a fantastic day!

Reply

No run today per doctor’s orders :( Lunch is typically left overs from the night before. I am definitely a morning person, I’m pretty much dying by 10pm.

Reply

yesterday I finally got a 7 minute mile-7:53 so the rest of this week’s runs will be basking in the glow of my limited running achievement. And for lunch everyday I have quinoa with some kind of veggie mixed in because I am just too lazy to figure out something else.

Reply

Welcome back to Utah! Lunch usually consist of something found in the frig, left overs, salad, etc. nothing special. Usually I am a morning person, early morning. I love drinking my coffee in the morning watching the morning news cruising around on my computer. Hope you are feeling a little better bring in the warm embrace of your family. Tell your Dad awesome job on keeping up the weight loss, it is harder the older you get to lose weight ~ I know this :)

Reply

Yay!! Glad you’re feeling like a new fresh person. Amazing how bangs can help out. Stay strong Janae, I absolutely support you and if you’re ever in the DC area I know where all the frozen yogurt places are. What? I blog too, its like a blogging rule that froyo is a part of everyday life!

Reply

This morning I did 4 easy and it was amazing- when marathon training 4 easy is a flipping blessing!
Lunch recently has been a kale salad packed with veggies and a miso/tahini dressing.
Total morning person- went to bed last night at 9:45 and I like to be done with my runs by 7:30 AM to get started with my day.

Reply

I just love seeing pictures of you looking at your daughter. The love you have for her is so evident and pure– it’s amazing and heartwarming.

Reply

Keep smiling lovely!

Reply

Definitely a morning person. I can barely function past 10 PM! Today’s run was 12 x 400 at the track. Very hot and humid today, so I took longer-than-called-for breaks between each. But good workout and out of the way for the day!

Reply

I’m going to run a local trail with quite a few hills while pushing the jogger stroller. I haven’t done this trail in a couple months, so I’m nervous!!

Lunch is most of the time eggs, whole wheat toast, some veggies, or leftovers from dinner the night before.

I guess I’m more of morning person, I get tired by 10pm too.

Brooke’s haircut is so cute!!

Reply

NIGHT person. I’m pretty sure I’m the only person over 25 who considers 9am to be getting up “early”

Reply

I’m totally a morning person. I also get tired by about 10 or 11pm (and once I get into bed, I fall asleep in like five minutes, haha).
Run today might be two laps around Lake Merced… perhaps one lap fast and one slow.
Yay! Brooke’s cute face always makes me smile :)

Reply

Hey Janae!

i’m a long time reader and LOVE your blog! i am currently training for my second half marathon and always think of you and how you push it so hard during your runs when i am training!!

what i think you need right now is a goal to work towards to keep your mind on the positive, and what that goal should be is to find PUMPKIN SPICE M&Ms!! they are beyond good and perfect for the fall!!! I am sure it would brighten your day!!

Reply

I ran up and down my street with Elmo. Nothing too serious ;-) I’m definitely a morning person. I get grouchy if I can’t go to bed at a decent time!

I’m so happy to hear you’re feeling better and safe/sound in Utah!

PS. I’ve wanted to try this exact ice cream for about a year now. I saw it online one day and realized they aren’t anywhere near me :(

Reply

What is your run going to be today?
My run is a super short 2 miles today. Hoping I can run outside since the rained is keeping us cooler. You missed a great rainstorm in AZ yesterday!

What have you been eating for lunch lately?
I have been eating salads, but that Subway looks amazing!

Morning person or night owl?
Totally a morning person! I can jump right out of bed and get moving. 9pm and I am wiped out and usually in bed before 11!

Glad you are back with your family! Brooke is sure loved by many there!

Reply

Is it possible to neither be an early bird nor a night owl? I’m pretty wiped by 10pm too, but I’m not the earliest of risers either.. If I had to pick I’m probably an early bird though :)

Not sure yet about my run, it’s a treadmill day for me so I suppose it depends how far I get before I’m losing my mind bored. I just couldn’t wake up early enough to go outside before its hot, and I’m busy in the evening too

Reply

I officially need that ciabatta sandwich in my life today.

I did 4 road miles before work this morning and I have a 6 mile trail run planned for after work.

Reply

So glad everything is better! I’m with your dad — I love the buffalo sub. It just doesn’t taste as rubbery as the normal chicken breast… Haha

Reply

That sandwich sounds delicious! I’m glad you’re back home with your family! There really is no place like home!

Reply

I love getting my bangs trimmed/side swept! Can’t wait to see a pic of you, you gorgeous girl!!

I’d eat those cheeks daily too ;) Haha.

I want to run in a splash pad!!

Reply

definitely a morning person! i’m wiped by 10 pm, too ;)

mmmm loving that egg sandwich. i’ve been making a ton of egg/avocado/spinach sandwiches for lunch lately. i just can’t get enough of that combo!

Reply

Glad you made it back. I think it is a law to eat cheeks of cute little babes. I saw my nephew this weekend and I couldn’t help it. Kid cheeks are so stinking cute.
Enjoy be back with you family.

Reply

Yay! So glad you’re back in UT! :)

Where did you get your adorable polka dotted pants? I love them.

And I’m definitely a morning person. I’m a grandma and like to go to bed at 10 or 10:30 – sometimes earlier.

Reply

Welcome back!!!

Morning person but evening runner ;)

This evening I have 4×2 miles at marathon pace plus warm up and cool down… this weeke is going to be pretty intense running-wise!!!

Reply

You look the best with side bangs!

Reply

Can I join your family? Will you adopt me? You guys are always eating the best food! :)

Reply

I am such a morning person. Up at 4:30 every weekday. By 8:00 I am SOOO ready for bed. haha.

My favorite thing to eat recently is Triscuits and swiss cheese. My coworker got me hooked. It’s especially good with the brown rice triscuits with cracked pepper.

Reply

What is your run going to be today? 9 miles after work! would rather have done it in the AM before work but too early.

What have you been eating for lunch lately? lately, salads with chicken avocado tomatoes, carrots, etc.

Morning person or night owl? definitely a morning person.

Reply

Both—I get up early and get sucked into paranormal shows all night :)

Reply

I ran 5 hard miles… me and the heat/humidity do not get along! I usually eat sandwiches for lunch :) they never get old. I’m definitely a morning person…I can hardly make it to 10pm these days :)

Reply

I know I traded some pretty solid PB and J’s for hoho’s when I was in high school, I mean ummm, grade school?

PS: you are doing amazing Janae! I was busy this weekend but your strength is seriously amazing. Keep that pretty head up!

Reply

I’ve been told that I wasn’t too fond of people trying to hug me and basically devour me as a child, so I can totally understand Brooke and her facial expressions!

Reply

Total morning person – I’m usually asleep by 10pm (I swear I’m 26 going on 76…). 6:24 mile is ridiculously fast! You rock!

Reply

I ran 9 painfully slow miles. I am still recovering from Saturdays trail marathon.

I eat a salad every.single.day for lunch. I load it up with various veggies so it never gets boring! and I am definitely a morning person. I do 70% of my weekly running at 4:30am.

Reply

Having 2 kiddos (27 months and 8 months), I have no choice but to be a morning person. My son wakes up between 5 and 6 every morning, no exceptions. So needless to say, I usually go to bed by 9.

That ice cream is Ahh-mazing.

Reply

Curly’s pose – love it!

I have been trying to get Ross on board with Subtember – hello one night where I don’t cook?? but he keeps saying it never sounds good. Lame. Maybe I will just go and eat a footlong by myself. Challenge accepted!

I am a morning person. But Ross is a night person. So I find myself staying up late so we can have time together after the kids go got bed and then still trying to get up at 5:15. I never said I was smart.

I eat left overs for lunch. So today was chicken, broccoli and sweet potatoes. I wish mine ended with that ice cream though cause that sounds heavenly.

I am so glad you are back in Utah – they weather is much cooler now too – yay for Fall running! Now we just need to hang out ;)

Reply

I love the seriousness in the way Brooke is attacking her ice cream. She’s a fast learner about the important things in life! :-)

My run went pretty well today despite the return of heat and humidity. Oh, and I was passed by a young man running in jeans!

Reply

Ran part way up Tantalus mountain on Oahu. Over 1,000 feet of climbing in 3.5 miles. It hurt so good!

Reply

Nearly all my runs start at 5:00 AM!
Have a great day/afternoon/evening!
Hugs!

Reply

I hated the healthy lunches my Mom packed for me and apparently so did the other kids because no one would trade with me. I paid for a few twix bars but when my Mom found out she stopped giving me money. By the end of 3rd grade, I’m pretty sure I owed the 5th grade loan shark about 75 bucks! Good times.

Reply

just so you know, i’m REALLY rooting for you to qualify for the olympics. i have NO DOUBT you can do it =] =] =]

Reply

I’m hoping to get a nice, easy 5 miles in today. It’s pretty hot out, though, so we’ll see!

Lunch today was boring but yesterday was leftover pulled pork on a pretzel roll… yum!

Totally a morning person (most of the time) and case in point, I was falling asleep at halftime during the Eagles season opener last night… oops!

Reply

I running an easy 5 miler after work tonight. I love running in heat!! 95 here in MI which is really wacky for this time of year.
Morning person all the way. If I could I would be in bed by 7pm every evening. 3:45am is when my alarm goes off on a daily basis.

Reply

– No working out for me for a few more weeks (car accident)
– Lunch today was a salad from Risky’s BBQ- grilled chicken, lettuce, cheese, bacon, tomato, I forget what else.
– I would be a night person if I didn’t have to get up early for work, so I try to stay on a decent schedule of never staying up too late or sleeping in too long. However, naps are acceptable.

Reply

Morning person if kiddos or coffee are involved – night owl if Bones or Crossing Lines is on :)
You have such an amazing pace! And helpful advice – I just found out it will be about 6 months until I can run “normally” again, thanks to patella femoral pain, so I read back through your archives to see how you dealt with stress fractures. I had to miss a race I’ve been training for since April (training for training) and I can’t wait to get back to running so I can get speedy like you :)

Reply

Why is there not a picture of your bangs? Come on….share!!!

Reply

Well, my run was going to be three miles, but…
1) It’s POURING here off and on. I hate running in the rain
2) I have a sinus infection and my doctor told me not to run today. Okay, doc.
I’m a definite morning person, but an afternoon workout-er.
Finally, I’ve been having peanut butter bread thin sandwiches. Mmmm!

Reply

Today is a rest day for me. Doing a tempo run tomorrow. I had an awesome run yesterday in the heat and hit a sub 10 avg for my 5 miles :)

I need to get a zebra rocking horse. waaay too cute :)

trying to be a morning person. i am in bed by 9.

Reply

As I used to tell my nephew when he still had “eatable cheeks”….it’s too bad you don’t like me eating your cheeks because I’m NOT GONNA STOP!! lol Now he has the thinnest face in the world. :(

Reply

Lately my lunches have been leftovers from dinner the day before.

When friends of mine got their daughter’s hair cut with bangs she all of a sudden looked so grown up.

I am so happy you are home. Just remember we are here for you whenever you need us.

I already Tweeted you about this but I definitely totally thought of you when I was at the airport heading to Seattle last week, and got Subway at the airport haha!

Reply

I celebrated Subtember yesterday =). I’m hoping to get out for 8 or so miles today because I missed my last two days of running because I lost my running shoes!

I love mornings and late nights…its tricky :)

Running on the bike trail by the river today- hoping for 8 miles.
