Rolo Cookies. You’re Welcome.

My phone randomly ate half of the pictures that I took last night so instead of 20 pictures we are just going to have to deal with a lot less than that.

Somehow I was lucky enough to get to have a part of San Jose back with me yesterday.  Two of my good friends and their daughter from California are back in Utah visiting their family and I got to have them for an afternoon at my house.  I can’t even begin to describe how much I have missed my San Jose friends so yesterday felt so good to be with some of them.

(PS have I ever told you my dad is also an artist and that is one of his paintings on the wall)

My friend even helped me to transfer everything from my old computer to my new one.  My old computer had seen his day.  It must take a lot out of a computer to post pictures of my baby, running shoes and food two times a day for a few years.

Cheez-Its and pretzels fueled this activity.

Yesterday was quite the baking day, my baking love is back with a vengeance.  First up my mom had a shower to go to last night and so the famous Anderson S’mores Bars had to be made.  Always the life of the party.

Brooke looks so sad because my mom had just told her that she was only leaving a few bars with us and taking the rest to the party.

                                                              IMG 0828

The second baking experience of the day was over at a friend’s house (she has three little dogs and a little girl so Brooke is always so happy to go over to her house).  I had mentioned to her that Rolos are currently my favorite candy and that reminded her of an awesome cookie recipe.

There are actual Rolos in the middle of the chocolate cookie goodness.

                                                               IMG 0845

Mix together (should make a thick dough):

2 eggs

1/3 cup vegetable oil

1 box devil food cake

Take 1-2 tbsp of dough and shape them around a Rolo to form a ball.  Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes.

New favorite food combination= chocolate and caramel.

Also, I saw this on the Rolo package and I think this will be the next creation made in the kitchen for me:

I am doing my long run today because Brooke and I have awesome plans for this weekend and there will be no time to run 14 miles.  I will be trying something new and listening to talks for the first 11 miles (they are supposed to be at an easy pace) and I will be listening to Katy Perry’s new song ROAR on repeat for the last 3 miles (done at a fast pace) because that song just makes me want to run fast.

I’m a little nervous for my long run this weekend – I have a 20 scheduled and I’m battling shin splints. Eck!

I am excited for the long weekend though – it’s my Dad’s birthday!

I spend way too many hours on the computer during the day….I blame it on the job.

Aww Brooke’s face in that photo when she found out they werent for her! Thats the cutest thing i will see all day. those do look amazing! i spend like, 10-12 hours a day on my computer. ahh even typing that out makes me cringe

Yum my mom and I made chocolate caramel cookies with rolos for christmas last year and they were so good we made four more batches of them throughout the 6 weeks I was home. So good. Roar is such a good song, although I don’t actually listen to music when I run so I just stick to singing in the car when I’m by myself….

Reply

I love Blurred Lines to make me run faster. And Macklemore’s thrift shop song.

Current favorite candy is always and always will be Reese’s Cups. You just can’t beat peanut butter and chocolate in my opinion.

Happy 14 miler!!!

LOVE the trader joe’s peanut-butter cups (and especially the mini pb cups) if you get to try them out =]

You’ve just inspired me to get out of bed and do my 10 mile run! :)

Oh my goodness between working and blogging, I don’t want to even admit how many hours I’m on the computer…it’s a lot! Favorite candy is definitely Reese’s PBS cups! Glad you got to see your friends from San Jose!

Reply

Since I’m on a computer all day at work and then blog/search the internet/shop on my home computer….way too long. It can’t be good for my eyes!

Those s’mores bars were a HUGE hit in my family. I made them for my dad’s bday and I have been dreaming about them ever since.

Have a great long run!

I am rarely on my own computer, but spend a ton of time on my work computer and my iPhone. I don’t know that I could name my current favorite candy, I try not to pick favorites when it comes to candy.

Reply

I love runnig to the Katy Perry song when running too, and I was thinking of you when I was listening to it. So self-empowering I love it!

Reply

Those rolo cookies sounds awesome, I think I’ll make some tonight to bring with to a friend’s this weekend! And YES to Roar! I LOVE Katy Perry and actually use Teenage Dream on repeat usually to get me through the end of hard workouts.

Reply

I’m on my computer atleast 10 hours a day (with work and blogging). Sometimes it’s good to unplug for a while. I am hoping to do that this weekend. Favorite candy? I have lots: Reeses, Rolos, 100 Grande! :)

Reply

Does work count? If so we’re looking at more than 10 hours a day (yikes!).
Favorite Candy: Hershey’s Cookies N Cream bar.
ROAR = repeat song of the week!!

OYE computer = 8 hours. Desk job. But I stand at work so I feel a little better about myself. I also make a point to walk and talk to people instead of calling / messaging.

Listen to Jenny by Walk the Moon. Even I can run some 7:XX minute miles to that song and I am a hard 8:XX

Reply

I wish I could make desserts then they’d magically leave my house… I always end up having to eat them all! Your dad looks like an amazing painter!

Reply

Dear Joanne, that was one VERY rude hostess ideend! Even if your cookies were store bought, it was still really rude to give them away in your presence. Unbelievable! I just LOVE your stories, it makes your blog so special. And you are honest to boot, a rare find.Aside from that, I just love your recipes, esp the Korean barbecue ones!

Reply

Roar has been on repeat for the end of my runs too!

I’m supposed to have a ‘cutback’ week next week, but I’m feeling pretty under the weather so I think I’ll just do 10km tomorrow instead of the 16km (10miles) as my long run. Trying to be smart and listening to my body is boring…

Reply

I really need chocolate today now. That’s it… I’m going shopping.
I’m in desperate need of a new computer. Have a great run! I’m doing 18 tomorrow!

Reply

Rolos are seriously one of the best candies ever. Those cookies sound awesome!

I’m usually in front of the computer all day. My job is social media marketing, so it’s pretty much a requirement.

Reply

Favorite candy is anything chocolate. I’ve really been craving York peppermint patties lately though. Bruno Mars is currently my running fast artist of choice. I just love him.

Reply

I love ROAR! Enjoy your run!!!!!

Man I am on my computer a LOT:

– I work on it for 8 hours a day,
– then do work for a diploma I’m working on,
– then do some work on my dance school’s Facebook page,
– and THEN blog.
– AND THEN look at holidays. Or houses I want to own. Or Skype my friends and family back in Australia.

My favourite running fast song is Azelea Banks 212 (radio edit version!). And Jessie J ‘Wild’. Do you have Jessie J in the US? Here she is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrNLsC_Y9Oo

My current favourite candy is …. anything chocolate, I’m not fussy!!

Reply

Dude, those bars and cookies look JUST amazing. OMG, get in my belly!!
Now that you mention rolos those are going to be my #1 fav current candy. So tasty!

Reply

I just started listening to podcasts on long runs (after almost 10 years of training for marathons). 2 weeks ago I had a 20 miler and listened to podcasts for the first 15, and music for the last 5 (Roar by Katy Perry is so awesome). The miles flew by, and I feel like my pace was steadier. I love Jillian Michael’s podcast and Stuff Mom Never Told You. Hope you enjoy your run :)

Reply

Wow your dad is an incredible artist! An artist and an inventor and a great dad/grandpa no wonder your mom married him:) I’ve made your Andersen Bars twice now and each time they were such a huge hit, seriously :) Iam on my computer for more than I probably should each day. I just got a new computer too and I love it. What kind did you get? My favorite candy right now is more of a cook/graham cracker/milk chocolate cookie thing I get at Starbucks when I get my coffee, so delicious melt in your mouth yummy. Have a great day!

Reply

I spend too many hours on my computer! I wish I didn’t, but I read too many blogs haha Enjoy your run! Roar is currently my favorite song!

Reply

I’m never on the computer unless I need to print something. But I’m on the iPad a lot. I do all of my blogging on blogsy. Upload pictures to it and then to shutterfly to save. All of my web browsing needs are met on the iPad. As well as recipe following using paprika. I also use the TV network apps to watch shows while folding laundry or eating lunch while the baby naps. But all in all maybe 3-4 hours a day. But not all together.

My favorite candy is sour patch kids. But must eat with a bottle of dr. Pepper. A can just isn’t the same.

Nothing makes me want to run fast lately. Maybe I should look up ROAR.

Reply

ooooh i love those pretzel rolo things– MAKE THEM you won’t regret it! :)

Reply

I keep meaning to download that song! And I’d be sad too if all those bars were being taken away…

Reply

I spend more time than I probably should on my computer. I would say probably 4-5 hours on average but more when I have work to do. I spend lots of time laying out and designing weddings so that takes quite a bit of time.

Rolo’s are one of my favorite chocolate/caramel candies. They are little bits of heaven in your mouth. :) Have you tried the mini’s? I was really disappointed. The chocolate to caramel ratio was off. Not nearly enough caramel.

I really like Daft Punk – Get Lucky and Jamie N Commons – Rumble and Sway oh and another one that I like not really popular but really good, ZZ Ward – Put the Gun Down.

Reply

Usually from 3pm-7pm in the afternoon, and that includes doing homework and blog stuff. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had candy hahaha but I would go with sprinkles, only because I never say no to those! Selena Gomez’s Come And Get It! Can’t get enough of that song right now!!

Reply

I love listening to podcasts while I run! Which ones did you pick to run with??

Reply

Oh, I’ve made those rolo pretzel delights–they are GOOD!!!

I spend WAY. TOO. MUCH. time on the computer! Basically all morning at work, and then often for an hour or so at home in the evening.

Reply

I would LOVE to get a new comp, but instead I’ll just back everything up on mine, delete everything off of it and start fresh. Hopefully that will speed this thing up :S

Reply

i do like katy perry’s new song! rolo cookies… that is a crime. good luck on the run and your dad is an amazing artist!

Reply

I avoid my computer as much as possible. I spend some time blogging everyday but aside from that it is out away. I’ll check social media from my phone when I feel like it. I’m anti computer these days for some reason.

Reply

I’m on my work computer for at least 9-10 hours/day – scary! And then approximately an hour for blogging/personal stuff when I get home. That’s a lot of screen time!

Reply

I make those rolo pretzels! I call them pretzel turtles (word to the wise – don’t make them with caramel hershey kisses…) ANYWAY – they are FANTASTIC – I make them whenever I visit my inlaws and they have now started requesting them – its awesome because they are SO easy!! Once you know how good they are you will want them ALL OF THE TIME!

Reply

All those treats just make me want to bake – it’s all gloomy and rainy here, so I’m thinking that something good is going to come out of my kitchen today. And I probably spend a little too much time at my computer, but it’s hard to avoid between work and blogging. I try to make sure I get up and move around every 15 minutes or so, so that I’m not sitting around for too long.

Reply

Mmm, so many baked goods, I love it!

Reply

mango and orange flavored ginger chews, I can’t get enough! Is that considered a candy though, I am going to with no. In which case the new sea salt lindt chocolate is my current obsession! Those brownies, I need!

Reply

I can attest, those Rolo “Turtles” are the bomb!

Reply

I’ve made the rolo delights, they are fantastic! I’ve also tried them without the pecans and just two pretzels, those are amazing too.

Reply

My hub and I both work from home, so we are always on a computer- when we’re not with our sweet daughter. I’d guess it’s 8-10 hours for each of us, depending. Right now it might be a bit more, a bit less, as we have the living-with-them support of my hub’s parents.

My fave candy would be Boehm’s chocolates that my mother-in-law brought back after a doctor’s visit. Wow! They’re tied with Sarris’s chocolates which I’m looking forward to when we return to Pittsburgh for the hub to present at a conference in 2 months! Mmmmm :-)

Reply

VR – yes! research is cllead for. Rolo ice cream is the BEST!! :)Jen – that definitely counts. We’ve got pumpkin and lemon meringue pies happening here! :)Leslie – oooooooh! Rolo ice cream pie sounds awesome!! Good thinking! :)

My hubby likes listening to ebooks when he works out, I think he thinks it makes him smarter.. I don’t listen to anything, I love the quiet!

Those rolo cookies look good, now I cant’ decide if I should make peanut butter cup cupcakes or rolo, or oreo.. hmm. ( just going to stick one of those in the batter and hope for the best)

Reply

I listen to the This American Life podcast on the first half of my long run and then music on the second half when I really need the motivation!

Reply

Brooke’s sad face – priceless. Rolo’s are one of my FAVORITE candies…there’s very few combinations that’s better than chocolate and caramel. (Although chocolate and peanut butter may beat it.) And then combine them with ooey gooey cookie dough…ahhhh. I’m drooling just thinking about it, and I literally just ate breakfast…

Reply

Is it just me or is Brooke’s hair looking significantly longer? She’s so cute and I think she definitely inherited your sweet tooth, haha!

I spend 8 hours at work sitting at my computer, and probably another 1-2 hours at home on my laptop but it depends on the night. My favourite candy ever are Swedish Berries and/or Fuzzy Peaches, or Reese’s Pieces. They’re all just so good.

Reply

I saw something on Pinterest this morning where you put a Rolo in a marshmallow and roast it over the fire for Rolo Smores. It’s like combining your two desserts above. Sounds like heaven.

Reply

I’ve made those Rolo Pretzel Delights before. You will not be disappointed!

My current favorite candy is Peanut Butter M&M’s. They are hard to beat!

Reply

In your old computer’s defense, I believe there have been a lot of days when you posted MORE THAN two times ;-)

The other day I got into the car after my husband had taken his friend sight-seeing in it ( because, you know, minivans are way cooler for cruising than pickup trucks) and guess what I found hiding in the door pocket? ROLOS!

Hope you had an enjoyable long run!

Reply

I have made those Rolo Pretzel delights and let me tell you Janae you WONT be able to eat just one!! They are amazing!!! I make them at Christmas time!!!!! Also Brooke looks soo cute in that picture!!! YAY for new computer!!! I need to get new music on my MP3 so that my next run will be amazing!!! Right now the only thing that makes me wanna run fast is LeCrae, he is a Christian rapper and his music makes me wanna run to the moon!!!

Reply

Because of work I’m on my computer probably 10+ hours a day its way too much

Reply

A co-worker of mine made those Rolos cookies last Christmas and they were SOOOOOO goood!!!!! Probably my favorite cookie ever! I thought it was some fancy caramel chocolate cookie, but nope! Just a Rolo :-)

Reply

I spend my entire day on a computer because it’s my job. It’s terrible but it pays well so that’s something…

Reply

The amount of time I spent on my computer varies – especially if I am working or not. But maybe a few hours a day. Some days I don’t even turn the computer on!

Reply

I am on my computer way too much between blogging and looking for jobs. My current favorite candy is JuJu and I really have a serious addiction! I LOVE Rolo’s took though! My mom and I used to eat them together when I was young – YUM! I am going to have to make this recipe soon!

Reply

Between my job in the summer, school during the rest of the year and blogging, I’m on my computer all the time. No wonder I go through laptops in 2 years, max!

Reply

Yay for San Jose friends!

I luurrrve rolo’s, those rolo cookies and those pretzel thinga ma bobs. Ross doesn’t like nuts though so I never make them. How bout I do and then we have a party where we eat them all. K?

I have been wanting to make those smore bars ever since you posted them the first time. I need to find an excuse to make them stat cause every time you post a picture I drool.

I hope you had a good 14 miles today. Not sure I could run and listen to a talk at the same time. Once I ran during conference so I listened to that. Let’s just say I wanted to stop half way through my long run and take a nap instead. Roar has been on repeat at my house. Love it. That song is your jam! So meant for you!

Reply

I honestly never use my laptop anymore, only if I need to print something or I am transferring photos to backup. My 6 year old uses it more than I do! Between my phone and iPad, I have enough Internet to get me through the day.

I’ve been addicted to peanut butter m&ms lately, yumm!!

That Roar song is a good one! I also like (an oldie) Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run.

Have a good run!!

Reply

Yes I like roar and brave!
I like listening to Tedtalks and NPR on easy runs. The best is TED Hour on NPR. uh combining my two favorite things into one hour worth of entertainment and you learn SO much!

Reply

I probably spend about 3 hours (sometimes more, sometimes less) on my computer per day between writing blog posts, returning emails, and reading other blogs. If blogging weren’t somewhat of a part time job for me, then it’d be much less than that!

Current (and ALWAYS current) favorite candy would be Reese’s!

Reply

I’m really trying to cut down on my computer time but still quite a bit! Favourite candy is definitely peanut butter m&ms! I’m addicted!

Roar is the best new running song!!

Reply

I work in an office so right off the back i’m on my computer 8 hours a day. Then I come home and read blogs and gossip sites for an hour..or two.

I want to run fast when I hear “The Fighter” by Gym Class Heroes – I didn’t buy the clean version, oops. :/ or “Fly” by Nicki Minaj (That one is clean)

Mmmmm chocolate AND caramel in a cookie. YUMMMERS!

HAve fun on your long run!! <3

Reply

The majority of my time on the computer is in the morning reading blogs. I’d say about 80% of it, actually. It’s just a nice way to start the morning :). I am wayyy too indecisive to pick a favorite candy. A song that always makes me run fast is “Monster”! Love it.

Reply

I don’t comment on your blog alot but wanted to let you know I read it all the time!!

Those Rolo pecan things are easy and yummy!! I might have to try those cookies :)

I’m on the computer all day for my job and then stupid me gets on pinterest when I get home for like hours… haha!

Have a fabulous holiday weekend!!

Reply

I am making those cookies ASAP. My husband and I both LOVE rolos…. holy yum :)

Reply

I make the exact same cookies except just form the dough into the balls and cook them and after they are done baking put an Andes mint on top of each one while they are still hot so it melts. They are a big hit. Especially during the holidays.

Reply

I’m with you on the Roar song, love it! I’m also loving “Wake Me Up” by Avicii. I might be making those cookies today. They would be perfect to take for the holiday weekend with family! Gracias!

Reply

Oh Brooke’s face is adorable in that picture…she actually looks like she is a little sad about the bars leaving…ha! ;-) (I would be too though…they look delicious!)

Reply

Try the Rolo/pretzel thing with M&M’s instead of pecans (eww). Heaven.
New favorite running song – Pompeii by Bastille. You will love it.

Reply

Roar came on the other day as I was running and I thought of you!…not creepy at all lol but that song has a strong message. For the pretzel rolo cookies, instead of using a walnut to top them with, I use a m&m. They are so easy to make and everyone always loves them! Have a great weekend!

I’ve made those rolo pretzels before. They’re awesome! I usually make them with plain m&ms. Super yummy! I even made them for a ward Christmas party and won the favorite dessert contest! Pretty crazy since they took all off 5 minutes to make and I beat the best of the best in my ward. Definitely use parchment paper or a silpat liner. The caramel leaks out and is hard to remove from foil or the pan. I’m going to have to try the cookies. Yum!

Reply

I’ve made those Rolo pretzels before too. They are yummy but I ditto Sue’s reply above about parchment paper. Also, I found the Rolo melts unevenly, tipping the pecan over to the side and even off the pretzel. So although they taste very good, they often don’t look super pretty!
I have a mug of very, very hot skim milk in bed each night. Have done ever since expecting first of my 3 boys. Doctor said I had to drink milk and I hated it…this was the solution and I’ve done it every night now for 49 years!

I made the s’mores bars for the first time this week. They were amazing! Everyone who tried them thought the same. I think they are my new secret weapon dessert – thanks :)

My mom makes those pretzel Rolo concoctions pretty often, and they are always a crowd pleaser as well.

Reply

Those cookies look awesome! My Mom has made those pretzel rolos. Warning- be prepared to eat every one of them. Delicious!

Reply

I’m embarrassed to admit just how many hours a day I’m in front of my laptop! I’m sure it totals at least four hours, and that’s not work related. That’s for blogging, reading blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc!

Have you ever made Rolo turtles with a Rolo, a little square pretzel, and a pecan half? OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!!! Let me know if you want the details for making them!

Reply

Those cookies look amazing! I’ve made brookies (cookie dough topped with brownie dough) with Rolo’s in the middle, and those are pretty awesome, too.

My current favorite running song is Bleed Out by Blue October….It’s a little “harder” than the music I normally listen to, but for some reason it’s gotten me through some grueling hilly & hot runs lately. I do listen to Podcasts on my long runs, though…I love the Another Mother Runner podcasts and the Marathon Training Academy podcasts, in particular!

Reply

I am on my computer a few hours during my work-day (as a teacher). Then I get home and spend probably four or five hours (before and after working-out) on the computer.

If homemade “muddy buddies” or puppy-chow counts as candy.. then that’s my favorite. Otherwise I like Enjoy Life chocolate chunks.

I’m on a computer all day at work, does that count?! But I probably spend about 3 hours a day on my laptop.

Katy Perry’s Roar got my through my last mile today, love that song!

Reply

Probably on my computer at least 2 hours a day and I’m all about ROAR right now too. Woohoo!

Reply

I don’t know if others mentioned but I’ve heard of people doing those rolo/pretzel things with one pretzel on top instead of the pecan. in case you run out of pecans or dont have them.

Those rolo-pretzel treats are one my favorite things to eat. So, so good. : ) Also, I’ve stuffed rolo’s in chocolate cookie dough. It’s the best thing ever.

Both of those cookies look soooooo good! I have a couple different smore recipes and would you believe I haven’t made any of them?! so great that you have so many friends. I am on my computer non stop, it is terrible

One piece of advice for your new computer: delete the pics you don’t want, and transfer the ones you like to an external harddrive. I take a lot of pics, too, and they ate up all my memory, even on my new macbook pro. I couldn’t figure out why my new computer was running so slow. Once I transferred the pics and deleted them off my computer, it was running much faster.

ha! ‘roar’ was my go-to song when I ran hood to coast relay a couple of weekends ago. :)
