Celebrating Brooke

Thank you so so much for all of the birthday wishes for Brooke!  It meant a lot to both of us.

The day started off with my usual run down at the track with my dad followed by my bowl of FMW (Frosted Mini Wheats are back in my life with a vengeance) and grapes.

When Brooke woke up we got started doing some of her favorite things.

Lunch time rolled around and we went to Costa Vida (it is cool that me and my sis are wearing the same shirt… at least they are different colors).

After lunch we drove north to a place called Thanksgiving Point.

They have a little town for kids and Brooke was a fan of the Dance Hall.

DSC 5651

But I don’t think she loved the Jail quite as much.

The best part of the afternoon was the pony ride.   Brooke is obsessed with animals so her riding on a pony for 5 minutes was kind of a big deal.

After the petting zoo we went home for Brooke’s nap and a friend brought over these beauties:

I actually don’t remember the last time I cooked.  I probably don’t even know how anymore.  I should work on that.  Next week.

Pesto/feta/turkey/veggie Which Which.

No birthday is complete without frosting.  We brought the wrong kind of match so just pretend that the candle has a flame.

She didn’t attack it like I thought she would but she did enjoy the little bites that she took.

There will be more cupcakes soon because her big bday party is next week when her cousins are in town.   As you know, I like to extend the birthday celebrations for as long as possible.

What are you most looking forward to this weekend?

Ok, I am jealous of this day lol I love that there is a little town for kids!! I’ve never heard of something like that before!

And I’m thinking of moving to Utah because it looks like it is sunny every day there…though running at the elevation would kill me I think haha

Have a great Friday, Janae! :)

I am so excited for this weekend. I am off of work and we are headed to Maine for the weekend for our last hurrah before school starts. My kids are 13, 12, 9 and 7 and are at a super fun age. I am laughing at Brooke on the horse, that is how it started with my oldest daughter and now she competes in horse shows. Watch out Mom!

I work weekends, so I’m ready for Monday so my mini vacation can begin! I have a daughter that turned two three weeks ago, and we are taking her to the zoo next week on vacation! :)

I used to be a cereal-aholic! Rarely met a cereal I didn’t like! I don’t eat as much of it now, and lately have gone back to Honey Nut Cheerios with sliced bananas in it! Mmmmmm! :)

Right now I am into cinnamin chex.

My kiddos are 5 (will be 6 in 3 weeks) and 2 1/2

This weekend I am hopefully enjoying our last day in the outerbanks and then on Sunday, packing my girls into the car for the 7 hr drive home. We only stop for bathroom breaks as they eat constantly in the car!

She’s living the life! I love the way she looks at you- it’s like you’re the only person that matters (duh, you’re her mom!). You guys celebrate in the BEST ways, and the day wouldn’t be complete without a cupcake. This weekend I’m looking forward to my last weekend in Rhode Island before I head back to school! Bittersweet…

Lunch with both sets of parents on Friday (yikes, that’s today) and grocery shopping then something later but I’m not sure what.

Awwr! So great to hear that Brooke had an awesome first birthday :D That pic of her on the pony definitely brings back some childhood memories… I’m going to go ahead and assume that Brooke makes a beeline for animals just like I did when I was tiny? :)

Happy Friday to you both!

This is my first ever comment, although I first started reading your blog just over a year ago and it has been a permanent feature on my browser list ever since. I was so inspired to see you able to keep running throughout your pregnancy and adapt your running routine accordingly. I am not maternal AT ALL (whereas my partner would very much like us to have children), but seeing the pictures of the adventures you and Brooke get up to really makes me smile – you have a gorgeous little girl. I was truly shocked to read about the tough time you must be going through right now, but it only goes further to demonstrate your upbeat spirit and positive attitude. I am quite a negative person, prone to anxiety and depression but am trying hard to see the brighter side of life. It must be partly for that reason that I read every blog entry you write, even when I recently fractured a metatarsal and can no longer run (I normally get frustrated to hear about others running when I can’t!). But I was so happy to read about your new PB, and it has made me determined to recover fully and build up my strength and stamina carefully just as you have demonstrated.
with very best wishes, Emma x

It looks like sweet little Brooker had a WONDERFUL birthday! That little town looks fun! :-)

My husband is out of town on business this weekend, so my girls and I are looking forward to movie night and sleepover in Mom’s bed this weekend! They are excited for a “girls” weekend!

My girls are 7,7,10 and 11….it’s a GOOD, BUSY and GIGGLY life!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

I have the most adorable picture of my oldest daughter on her first pony ride. She was maybe 2 at the time. It’s still one of my favorite pictures of her. Especially since she is still such a horse lover and I have pictures at this age with horses to compare it to.

I am most looking forward to trying out my new Saucony Ride 6 shoes this weekend! Maybe tonight!!

My girls are 15 and 12. How is that even possible?!!

I don’t really have a favorite cereal at the moment. I haven’t had it in awhile.

Reply

I am Kashi obsessed!!! love all of their cereal!!
But if I am feeling extra extra sugary… i will never ever turn down a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch or lucky charms. WOW. Oh or the Nature Valley Granola Bar cereal ((where they basically just break up the bars and put it in a box and call it cereal))

Happy Birthday, Brooke!

My daughter is just about a year older than Brooke, so I am looking forward to her big birthday bash this weekend. I can’t believe I will have a two year old! I have to say even though I loved her being a baby, year 1 to 2 was so much more fun! It is a blast hearing them talk and having little conversations with them, and you get to watch them change from baby to little girl. Enjoy!

Precious! She is getting so big! Soon she will be running with you!

We’re heading to Bruneau Dunes today in Idaho for camping as we move to Washington. It has the largest public telescope in Idaho and the tallest sand dunes in the USA based on how they are formed.

We are all looking forward to it! Given that my hub’s son doesn’t always travel well, it’s a special treat. Thankfully he doesn’t travel well or else we would have passed it by.

Through all of it, Susanna has been pretty amazing. She’s 8 months and her bro is 14. Watching them together is wonderful and we wish it would happen more often.

Those cookies from your friend are seriously too cute! And I bet they’re also so yummy…

I am cereal-addicted, I like every single kind of them! But since I eat them every day in huge quantities, I try to stick to the healthy kinds… usually multigrain Trader O’s! Between me and you though (and the rest of the world wide web), I like for my cereals to be extra-mushy, so I put them in a bowl with milk and then microwave the whole thing for about 50sec….shhhh….

Favourite cereal: Nature’s Path gluten free Sunrise Crunchy Maple. I slice up strawberries and a banana and it’s SO DELICIOUS!

I have a little sweetheart who is 7 and she is the light of my life. She is such a sweet, sensitive soul and she makes me so proud every day. Me and her Dad are not together and she has adapted to that so well.

Favourite cereal- I am not a big cereal eater but last one I was into was shreddies with raspberries added into it.

I’m looking forward to my first 5k race Sunday! Hoping for under an hour, but that’s probably not realistic. Tomorrow we are taking the kids to see Planes. And then Monday we are taking them bowling- one last hurrah before school starts back on Thursday.

My kids are 9, 5, and about to turn 1 on the first. Cute as a button party coming right up!

We’ve been on a lucky charms kick lately. Yum.

Thanks for sharing Brooke’s birthday with us. I’m super jealous that you have a which which, even though I have not tried it, I have heard great things. I came so close to trying it a year ago, we had went to pick up lunch, for my friend and the bridal party, but they were super packed and it would of made us late to the wedding ceremony. I lived up to my duties and put my friend first and went somewhere else to pick up lunch.

1. We are going to a water park this weekend our last big thing before school starts up again.
2. I have a 6 year old as of August 14.
3. Cereal? I haven’t had a bowl of cereal in such a long time. I have to change that quick!

No favorite cereal lately since I am doing a 21 day sugar cleanse but when I am not I really, really, really love Frosted Mini Wheats, Life and Raisin Bran. I also really like Grape Nuts with honey for some reason.

I’m eating FMWs as I read this!! My kids are 25, 23, 21, 19, 15 and 12. My 25 and 23 year olds are home for a week!! Yay! We have been doing a lot of running while they are home. My 23 is running the Pocatello marathon in a couple of weeks. He has a 20 mile day tomorrow, so we’re all long running – but not that far for us :). My 21 and 19 are serving missions. Guess where my 21 is…..Provo! She’s serving in Lindon right now.

We are moving this weekend, which is sure to be a circus with three littles and two dogs. I am very much looking forward to the moving party donuts and coffee, though. Also the weather is supposed to be spectacular for my long run this weekend. That always makes a girl happy, right?

My children are 18 months, 3 (almost 4, next month), and 5. Boy, girl, boy. Looking back at their birthdays, I cherish the little birthday celebrations that we did quietly as a family even more than the big parties. The slower pace and smaller crowd leaves more room for appreciation of the day. It looks like you had a great time celebrating your baby girl on her very first.

Favorite cereal right now is Quaker oatmeal squares honey nut flavor. But that is a lie. Lucky Charms is really my favorite cereal every day of my life, but I can’t in good conscience eat that every morning…so the oatmeal squares are a tasty, healthy second. ;)

Hope that you have a great weekend!

This weekend we are traveling back home after three crazy weeks of vacation and races. I’m hoping to keep it pretty low key (aside from tackling the mountain of laundry we have accumulated) because we are leaving again next weekend for the Edmonton marathon and fitness expo.

Cereal lately (and always actually) is granola. I think I could live off of granola of it was socially acceptable and my kids and husband didn’t complain.

My daughter is two and a half and my little guy is 7 months on the 19th.

Looks like Brooke was really enjoying herself. My daughter is crazy about animals too (especially cats these days)! She would be thrilled beyond thrilled to get a pony ride.

Cute! Looks like she had an awesome birthday :)

Cereal…I love my oatmeal, but I do crave cereal and milk a lot. Love the Kashi Go Lean Crunch. Yum. But, i’m also a good old fashioned cheerios girl, too. ;)

My kids are 5 & 3. I love them so much. They are at such fun ages. My son is learning to read and has 2 wiggly teeth. My daughter loves being outside and playing in the dirt or running around. Growing so fast and trying to enjoy every second of it.

Happy Bday darling Brooke! That little thing is sure adorable. Although…who takes one small bite of a cupcake? That girl has more self control than me! ;)

Hello, Janae! I have been a faithful blog follower of yours for about two years now, but I think this is my first time commenting. First of all, Brooke is one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen! She’s darling! So, nice work making one gorgeous little girl. :) Second, I have thought of you so much since I read about your divorce. My heart just aches for you. I am also LDS and I attended an endowment session at our temple here in Anchorage, Alaska last night and as I walked by the place where you can write down names to be prayed for, I thought of you and wrote your name down. So, for what it’s worth, you’ve got prayers from way up north coming to you. Hang in there and know that you are a fantastic person! Your blog brings happiness and inspiration to so many people. I’m also a runner, but haven’t been able to run for awhile because I’m pregnant and have been very sick. But reading about your running accomplishments makes me even more excited to get back out there as soon as I can. Thanks!

That means the world to me. Thank you Jess!

Brooke’s day of celebration looks like a lot of fun. I love the picture of her on the pony. My daughter is 16 going on 30 and I don’t know anything right now. I remember when she used to look at me like Brooke looks at you!!! I miss those days. LOL. Hopefully it’s just a phase and my daughter will love me again soon. Have a nice weekend. Take care.

I can’t even stand how cute Brooke is!

Beautiful weather in RI this weekend. Looking forward to a hike on Saturday, possibly a visit to the local county fair and a long run on Sunday morning followed by lots of nothing!

I couldn’t even tell you the last time I ate cereal! I don’t like it very much and when I eat it, I always eat it without milk – just dry.

Happy birthday to that little cutie!! What a great day for her :) so neat to see how they react to new things.

This weekend my wonderful photographer friend is going to capture some professional photos of my little guy – he’s already 4.5 months old! (slacker mom :P)

I havent been on you blog in so long and I cannot believe how grown up she is now!! Happy belated birthday to this gorgeous little girl xxx

Happy, Happy Birthday to Brooke (and, of course, you — I mean, you did all the work of the birthing part). We have birthday weeks in our household so that we can do multiple events (to accommodate everyone’s schedules — and it’s just more fun that way!)

My oldest is turning 19 (gasp!) today. Her three siblings are: 18, 15, and 11. (All girls except the 15 year old).

On the cereal front, I’d have to say my favorite is Honey Bunches of Oats with almonds. (I mean, it’s really Cap’n Crunch, but I’m “mature” enough now – ha! – to consider that more of a dessert rather than a cereal).

Enjoy the birthday week/month/quarter? :)

What are you most looking forward to this weekend? My dad & sister visiting!

Moms reading: how old are you kiddos? 3 and 2

Favorite cereal lately? Honey nut Cheerios :)

Looks like a perfect 1 year old birthday day! I like to keep things low key, but all the cousins and family like a big party. Good for you for finding a compromise.

This weekend I’m looking forward to some family time. My husband has been working crazy hours and I don’t think I’ve said more than a couple words to him all week.

My kids are 6, 5, and 18mos.

I don’t eat a lot of cereal (gasp!) cuz I like to start the day with protein. Usually an egg on goat cheese toast. Mmmmm…

This post made me happy seeing you doing fun things and enjoying Brooke. One year olds is probably my favorite age. Tantrums still off in the distance, haha.

That picture of Brooke on the pony made me smile. She looks like she won the lottery!

Those orange and white cookies are pretty cute!

I’m looking forward to a fire and smores tomorrow night with some friends I haven’t seen in awhile. You can’t go wrong with marshmellows.

Reply

I have a photo of my daughter riding a horse when she was almost the same age as Brooke. Thanks for the memories. She was 26 on the 15th.

Reply

Sounds like Brooke had an awesome birthday!!

This weekend, I am really looking forward to setting a new personal distance record for myself… I have 15 miles on the schedule for tomorrow! And thank goodness I will have company :)

I want a birthday like that. Minus the jail ;-)

This weekend is going to be a mix of housework and fun. The fun will include grilling at a park, sitting around a bonfire and going (again) to the Iowa State Fair. (One of the 1000 places you should go before you die. Its in the book. Really.)

My daughters are 9 and 11. Great ages. They are from China and this summer we were able to return for a heritage tour. So they are being really nice right now :-)

I like Kashi Crunch with Chobani, chai seeds and drid blueberries. Costco anyone?

Looks like the Brooker had a fun day! My kiddos are 6,4,2 and baby#4 due next Tuesday! I have all boys and we don’t know what we are having.:) I love lucky charms but tend to not buy it very often since its so full of sugar, I usually eat it for dessert anyway. Have a great weekend!

Looking forward to brunch with my family this weekend…is it Sunday yet?

My little one is 2 and I am currently preggers and expecting in Feb.

Steel Cut Oatmeal is my thing lately.

Happy weekend!
