Thirty Things Thursday.

Just one of those days that I feel like I have a million things to tell you.

1.  Bangs Friend (she pulls her bangs back to run) and I went out at 5:45 this morning to run.  I left for the run grumpy/cold/tired and came home hopped up on endorphins.  That is why I run.

IMG 9550

2.  I came home still tired/cold so I took a hot shower and a 20 minute nap and all was right again in the world.

3.  At least watch the 8 minute ab or 8 minute arms videos for entertainment if you aren’t going to try it.  In the arms video you learn that if you do enough shoulder presses that you will no longer have to wear your shoulder pads ladies!  What a relief:)  You might also get some outfit ideas from the video for your next race.

4.  My mom’s cell phone is a no longer working.  She emailed me about it this morning and all I could reply back was, “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”   I am worried how I am going to survive without talking to her for a full 24 hours until her new one arrives.

5.  Do you spend more than $327.01 a year on running gear?

Brooks National Running Day Infographic

8.   This happened this morning and I almost had a heart attack.  I could now retire from Twitter happy if I wanted to.

IMG 9553

9.  Remember how I had high hopes that Brooke would love her jellies?  Nope.  I had to backtrack through the zoo yesterday to find the one she tried to lose.  What a relief that no one stole it.

Maybe she is trying to pull a Cinderella.

10.  For our morning snack today I made us microwave mug eggs and then we split a muffin…aka I just wanted the top streusel part and gave Brooke the bottom half.  I am selfish.

IMG 9556

11.  How I get Brooke to let me do her hair…. I take the batteries out of the remote and let her play with it.   Playing with the remote to her is like the best PR in the world for us runners.

12. Families that blog together stay together.

DSC 3232

13.  When I was a kid and my mom and I would pick out a treat at the store I would always get something fun like sour patch kids/swedish fish/starbursts/skittles and she would always choose M&Ms.  I never understood why in the world she would choose those over everything else the world has to offer.  I now understand.  M&Ms are really one of the greatest treats ever.  My taste buds are maturing.

Okay, so not quite 30 things but I am sure I will have plenty of random things in the next post to share with you.

I use ecto… sometimes it deletes my posts though and I want to scream! Thirty responses: Every Cinderella needs a prince charming Brooke is getting a head start ;-) Love the top of the muffin. The bottom isn’t worth eating. You are a celebrity. I wish I was your morning running partner aka I am jealous of bangs!

I use WordPress, and so far, so good! Would love to have a custom-designed blog, but I need to keep my full-time job for now, so WP is great!

Definitely spend more than $350/year on running gear. When running shoes cost more than $100 a pop, not too hard to do.

Enjoyed a chocolate chip bagel from Panera today for an afternoon snack. Yum!

I love running races for the sense of accomplishment that comes with crossing the finish line. And, as a mother, it sets a great example for my girls!

Reply

Brooke on her laptop is cute beyond words! s

I have no clue how much I spend- I do usually get 2 new pairs of shoes a year, i’m a sucker for new running clothes/socks too… hmm I don’t think I’ll add it up :)

I always chose starburst/airheads/or skittles too! I really liked ring pops and that bubble tape gum also.

My morning snack was chocolate PB smoothie after my run.

I really liked this post btw!

Reply

I had a Lara bar mini for a snack today. (Thank you to my hub who picked it up with the sweet girl was still awake at 10:30 pm last night. The grocery store is always a good place to entertain her while I was blessed to sleep.)

I probably spend under $100 on running gear/nutrition a year.

Reply

hmmm it FEELS like I spend thousands on running gear but on closer exam I think it’s closer to $500. that’s still a lot!

I love racing because it pushes me out of my comfort zone and lets me see just how fit I am! PRs are the best bonus ;)

I just use the WordPress platform but am curious about other blog editing tools out there in case I self host in the future!

Reply

I definitely spend more than that on running gear each year! I’ll shop at Road Runner Sports over Macy’s any day : )

My number one reason for a race? I’d say it’s that I’m very goal oriented, and esp. since becoming a mostly stay-at-home mom, I love that races give me a sense of working hard for an accomplishing something.

I was super healthy with snacks most of this week, but today my kids’ Cheez-Its were calling to me from the pantry and who was I to ignore them!

Reply

I’m still using wordpress but am very curious about other programs! For my snack today I had the new carrot cake Luna bar and it was delicious.

Reply

Oh snap, I spend more than that in shoes. I spend TWICE that in shoes! (and only shoes…) (and it’s legit I put mileage on them!)

Reply

I do not spend all that much on running gear due to lack of funds. But, there is a fair amount of gear that I dream about. Most of my money is spent of new running shoes.

Most of my timed races are in races for different causes. My first one of the year is to help raise money for NC Special Olympics, second one of the year is Race for the Cure, and my final race of the year is for Ovarian Cancer. I use the times to keep me motivated and try to improve from race to race.

I snacked badly today and had a cupcake… at least I ran today to help burn some of it off…

As per your blog, I started doing both the 8 minute abs and arms videos (send it right to my tv…thanks AppleTV!) and I LOVE it. I like the music, the outfits, and how the leader of the pack calls us “gang” and is oh so positive. I also enjoy that I was able to work out my arms AND learn the real purpose for shoulder pads :) All this time I thought it was just a terrible fad from the 80’s. Who knew?!

Reply

I’m not sure I want to add up how much I spend on running, but I can tell you it’s much, much more than $327. I spend more than that on shoes alone.

Reply

Cinnamon life and ice cold milk.
A few stabursts. Had to try the new flavor morphed ones.

Reply

I just use blogger and type in the editor. Boring girl I am. And today for a snack I had delicious watermelon! A whole bowl. Mmmm. And our dog devoured part of the rind, because he’s into that.

Reply

I use livewriter and love it!
I am absolutely dying at your arms workout! I almost wonder if your trainer is obsessed with the 80s?? Those workouts need to be updated stat. lol. I might quite possibly try to track down that striped number for my Rim to Rim to Rim run this weekend;)

Reply

I hope I don’t spend too much on running gear… I try to get the bargains!! Brooke’s hair is so long, lucky!

Reply

The photo of Brooke looking down at the remote kills me- those cheeks!!

I don’t want to know how much I spend- in denial.

Snacks so far have been a blueberry bliss Luna bar (my fav), an apple, string cheese.

Reply

That’s funny that Brooke keeps trying to ditch her shoes. I’m glad you were able to find it. Jellies are the greatest shoes ever created. I had one of those runs this morning that felt great when I was done. It was hot and humid but I felt oddly refreshed when I got home.

Reply

Brooke’s jelly shoes are just too cute – maybe she’ll learn in a few months how awesome they are!

I’m jealous of Bang’s friend too – it could be one big party at 5am if all us followers could run with you guys!!

Reply

I can’t imagine spending almost $400 on running gear. That seems like a lot of money to me.

I use Live Writer to blog. I love it.

Reply

What a great shoulder pads tip ;) I spend way more than tht a year. It’s horrifying. My shoes alone cost more. Maybe Brooke is just waiting for her Prince Charming!

Reply

Shoulder pads bring me back to a dark time. Hahah. Ugh, those dresses. At least I always had the broad shoulder look down to a “T”. My best snack today was a chocolate from Italy given to me by my mom’s co-worker. It was more delicious because it’s from Italy, of course. lol

Reply

I like races because they give me motivation on days I don’t want to run- I was signed up for a race in March and it made me run all winter!

Reply

Snack today was a protein bar…easiest thing for a keep-in-the-purse snack!

Reply

I use blogger and it drives me a little bit cray cray sometimes… I’m not techno savvy either. Mid morning snack = natural yoghurt with berries – my fave. Not sure how much I would spend on kit – maybe around $200-$300 dollars. Would totally spend way more if I could!

Reply

My snack was frozen yogurt with peanut butter cups, mini rolos, skor bits for me and additional marshmellows for my munchkin. He didn’t eat his marshmellows though because they were the favoured ones instead of the plain ones.

Reply

I love the picture of you and Brooke blogging together! :) Also, that is SO COOL that Running Times is following you! I am super jealous. :)

Reply

Brooke gets cuter every day! I guess I spend about $1,500 a year on workout gear – Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? But, I get about four pairs of new shoes a year. Plus, I run and ride, so I have different gear for each sport.

My snack today was a bomb pop after my bike ride. It is 90 in Boston today and the ice cream truck at the park called to me!

Reply

Today I had Greek yogurt with granola for a snack-just like every day!!

Reply

Your picture with the streusel thing or top of the muffin looked like fried chicken, haha.
I think I spend at least $500 on running gear each year (considering the many pairs of shoes, the workout clothes, sunblock, etc).
Love the pic of you and Bangs Friend!

Reply

I have never heard of MarsEdit before? You have some great tricks up your sleeve for distracting Brooke lol. Glad no one stole her little jelly shoe, silly Cinderella, leaving it behind. :)

Reply

Cute–blogging next to you :) I use wordpress & love it!

I want a muffin now!! With streusel. mmmmm

Reply

Those cheeks! I just can’t handle it. And you stealing the muffin top reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where they opened a bakery that only sold muffin tops and they couldn’t find anyone to take the muffin bottoms. I actually haven’t had any muffins in a while, but I -have- been snacking on chocolate chip cookies, so I guess that’s alright :)

And I’ve never heard of MarsEdit… I just use plain old WordPress and like it well enough. Does MarsEdit make blogging easier?

Reply

Congrats on runningtime following you!

Reply

I am addicted to new running gear and new shoes. If you include races I certainly spend more than that every year. But it’s got to be cheaper then the cost of being unhealthy!

Reply

I use Windows Live Writer – love it! I’ve never heard of MarsEdit… I’m assuming it’s a program for Apple computers?

A big ol’ smoothie was one of my snacks today. It was HOT so my smoothie was perfect.

Reply

Peanut butter m&m’s!!!!!! YUM! I love the top streusel part of all breads and muffins! 5:45 is soooooo early. We r on vacation and I am trying to get out the door by 6 because it is so hot but we stay up tooooo late! Ummmm…..I have no idea how much I spend on running gear and actually….I don’t want to analyze it too much because it is too much I am sure especially if you add in everything like races and socks and shoes and bras and running tops and cold weather gear…oh my! I actually ask for lots of running stuff as gifts though and I don’t spend much on anything else :).
What in the world is that blue and white thing that guy is wearing?!?!

Reply

I love the picture of Brooke with her lap top! So cute! :)

I run races for personal achievement!! I am thinking of running a full for my 26th birthday next May….we shall see!!! :)

Reply

I love your post today!!

I was going to ask you what you use to edit your blog because I find Blogger a bit frustrating at times and contemplating on moving to WordPress but not sure if the transition will be easy.

I reckon that I spend easily $1000 on running gear a year because I can’t resist cute running shorts and tops and when a pair of running shoes costs more than $200 in NZ it’s easy to go broke.

I’ve just signed up for 2 half marathons this year to keep me motivated and disciplined.

I am going to have an english muffin with pbj for my snack this morning. happy days!

Reply

#1 reason for loving ultras = the people!

I am the complete opposite, always only loved chocolate and never understood the need for non chocolate candy. Now breastfeeding #2 baby and trying to avoid dairy/chocolate and have a new found love for sweedish fish, I get it.

Reply

I wish so badly that we lived by each other so I had a friend to run with. Running with friends is the best! I am so jealous.

Glad you didn’t lose her jelly shoe. That would have been devastating.

What’s a blog? ;)

I probably spend about $200 a year.

A snack? Who just eats ‘a’ snack each day? Some days all I want is snacks, not meals. Snack #1 today was an apple and a hard boiled egg. Snack #2 was grape and cottage cheese with chia seeds!! I hadn’t had that combo in months and I am glad grapes aren’t ridiculously expensive so that it can be back in my life again.
hanks again for introducing me to that combo. I am sure I will have another snack before the day ends too ;)

Reply

I find it disturbing that the Brooks ad placed 25-54 year olds in the middle aged category! I refuse to label myself as “middle aged” yet!

Reply

Wow. That much per year? I can totally see how it adds up, especially when you add in different exercise clothes as well! I like how one group buys 2.6 pairs per year, it’s like how people have 2.5 kids! Anyway, I just use wordpress for my blogging, it’s a tiny bit of a hassle getting the pictures on my computer, and uploading them, but it works!

AND Brooke is just showing how Californian she is, barefoot in the summertime is the best!:)

Reply

I don’t think I spend that much but maybe? I run for the endorphins. I feel like superwoman after a run! And M&Ms are def an acquired taste. I love the mint ones!

Reply

I always pop the top off a muffin and save it to eat last. It really is the best part!

So cute that Brooke loves the electronics! Hers are adorable!

Blogger from Google +

So far, $0. My running stuff is from soccer which is from my mom, and my shoes are from my grandparents for my birthday

Motivation to train!

Cool Ranch Doritos

Reply

Oh Yeah, I am with ya!
Cool Ranch… YUMMY. My favorite

Reply

I ate my own homemade granola bars for my snack at work today. Just trying to get it to hold me over for breakfast for dinner night.

Reply

I had vanilla ice cream for my evening snack, best part about it.. it was free and I didn’t have to scoop it. For whatever reason I hate scooping ice cream.

Reply

Can I have Brooke’s jellies if she’s not going to wear them? I am absolutely thrilled they now sell jellies in my size, no lie!

I adore my Kinvara’s and their lower profile but sadly, that lower profile means I have to replace them too frequently. Bye Bye paycheck!

Reply

uh I for suree spend more than 300 a year… I can’t believe that it’s that low!
I mean, one pair of shoes is more than 100! haha but I’d rather spend my money on nice running gear than dress clothes :)

Reply

“Okay, Gang!” That video is hilarious, also a nice short arm burner though if enough weight is used!

Reply

This was fun! :) I wish I could get myself up that early to run, but every fiber in my being just never lets that happen!! ha! Also, M&Ms really are some of my faves. I’m a big fan of twix too.

xo

Reply

I would rather not know how much I spend on running gear! :)

Reply

So far this year I have spent more than $500! At least I am obsessed with something AMAZING :) Snack today was leftover cake from my roommate’s birthday from an amazing bakery in my town. They now make a “doughsánt” which is a cross between a donut and croissant and I feel like you of all people would appreciate it! Haha

$300/year on exercise gear would be amazing—I spend that every 2 months. Nooooo. :-((( Group ex and training is my full time job, so it’s a necessity.
Brooke’s cheeks kill me. :-)

Reply

I use Weebly.
I have no clue how much but I am sure its ALOT. I have like 20 pairs of running shorts, 5 pairs shoes, 20 sports bras… and a million shirts.. I am a workout junkie and always shop for something cooler. Especially at Marshalls!
My number one reason for running is for self satisfaction…. To know my hard work has paid off!
My snack was kettle chips in sweet BBQ. Yum

Reply

Oh goodness, I spend far too much money on running gear…and that doesn’t even include shoes! Eesh, my bank account hates me!

and I race, because I love it. The competition fuels me!

Reply

bahaha I was doing 8 min arms (after my 8 min abs) today after my run and actually laughed out loud about the you wont need shoulder pads anymore comment! The videos are so ridiculous but soooo good too, thanks for sharing I love them :)

Reply

I use WordPress… I want to get a self hosted site!

Reply

I spend we’ll over $1000 on running gear. Slight obsession.
I race for self satisfaction and to push myself to reach new goals.
I simply LOVE running!!!!!!!

Reply

After not eating a snack yesterday, I made sure to have a proper one today! Multigrain cheerios, milk, banana, blueberries, walnuts, and ice cubes :) hit the spot!

Reply

Just started blogging and I’m using WordPress… so far I like it but I’ve never tried anything else!

I spend way too much on workout wear due to my proximity to lululemon! Yikes!!

Reply

Brooke’s cheeks kill me every single time. She is adorbs.

I estimate that I probably spend MORE than that on running gear a year…oh well, at least my hobby benefits my overall health and well being! It could be worse.

My snack today was strawberries and bananas, classic and delicious!

Reply

Does the $327 include race fees? That’s a big chunk of my expenses: also shoes, since I go through at least 3 pairs per year.

Reply

I write all of my posts in the “notes” on my iPhone – and then email them to my hubby to actually post it for me

Reply

Ohhhhhh yay I’ve been looking for a good program to use with a Mac since Windows Live Writer isn’t compatible. Thanks!

My snacks today were a banana strawberry quinoa muffin and a french vanilla protein shake – delish!

Reply

Running a race re motivates me and makes me reassure myself that I am capable of running long distances without dying lol. I ran my 3rd half marathon last Sunday (first race after having a baby 7mo ago) and crossing that finish line was such a huge accomplishment for me.

I had chips and homemade guac for an after dinner snack. And cherries!! Mmm…

Reply

I didn’t get a raging sweet tooth for chocolate until my stressful teenage years. I think chocolate is part of a girls rite of passage ;)

I probably spend about $500 a year on running gear. I try really hard to reign in my shopping, but I’m addicted to all of Champion’s cute tops at Target!

Reply

Really??? Middle aged is 25- something…I’m middle aged! First time I’ve been lumped in that group! So old! I spend lots of money, does that include race entries and hotels/travel expenses??? I guess it says gear, but I think I spend that in sports bras.

Yes, Brooke is the cutest baby in the world. I may be holding off on having my own children for fear I won’t find them as adorable as the little blog baby.

Reply

I sign up for races to keep me motivated, that isn’t even really helping lately

Reply

I wish I spent that much on race gear. I buy good shoes and everything else gets pushed to the side. Now races… I spend basically about 80% of every paycheck. Those babies add up so fast.
I had Jimmy Johns for the first time yesterday (which wasn’t really a snack but worth talking about) It was amazing. I got the veggie with the guacamole. wow.
I use wordpress.

Reply

It’s still morning, so I haven’t had a snack yet. Though, maybe I should remedy that.

Reply

brooke’s stance as she types is too much! such sass and poise!!!

Reply

Brooke “blogging” is too cute for words!

I finally watched the 8 minute arm video, HILARIOUS! I think I’m going to start doing this w/ 8 minute abs. Do you like it? Do you see results?

My snack today, and almost everyday, is rice cake w/ pb&jam with banana and glass of milk. YUM.

Reply

I kind of love hearing about where Brooke has lost her shoes. No idea why, just endearing I suppose. Also love those jellies.

Reply

I probably spend about $225 on running gear annually.

I love running a race because I love the admiration I get from friends and family. Makes me feel like I matter! (sorry if that sounds selfish!)

I haven’t had a snack yet today (Friday), but yesterday, I had yogurtland! WHOOOO!!

Reply

With the travel for Relay’s and lots of shoes and a Lululemon addiction, I spend in the thousands.
Scary.
This year it will be less, but it’s not just my workout, it’s my social life, my vacation….
Running is my better half!

Reply

I use blogspot. I’m a newbie and its easy to figure out.

I love races, the camaraderie, seeing if I can beat my time, goodie bag, the feeling I get at the finish.

I spend an obscene amount on running clothes. It’s bad I have a problem

Reply

YES!! That arm video KILLS me. I just did a workout on Friday strictly with the 8 minute guys. (well & girl) – Abs, then 2 rounds of arms (which the shoulder pad thing is HILARIOUS!), legs (which is HORRIBLE- have you done that one?), buns (which I love, because it really does burn) & then abs again.
WHAT is it about the remote with these girls?? Gabriella is the SAME way with it. She pretty much attacks it every time she sees it.

Reply

I would totally follow Brooke’s blog! Actually, I think she is a natural born barefoot runner and is trying to tell you that! :-)

Reply

I love the list! I have a similar photo of my brother and my nephew working on the same “laptops”, haha!
