Running playlist and I now have to throw away a shirt.

Since today was a rest day from running (I did do my performance stretching DVD and some core work… who am I?) I decided to spend my running time this morning making a playlist with some of my favorite running songs.

My running music is kind of a big deal to me and this is something near and dear to my heart. I mainly choose my favorite running songs because of their fast beat. If the song makes my legs want to run faster than I automatically love it and some of the songs have lyrics that just make me want to push harder. Some are old and some are new but they all make me want to run.

Light pink backg

And my favorite cool-down/stretch/sing at the top of my lungs in the car song:

Just Give Me a Reason by Pink

Brooke and I got ready for the day and I am glad I have photographic evidence of a shirt that I used to own. See this white shirt? It was my first time wearing it and seconds after the photo something happened to it (I will not go into details) but no amount of laundry detergent and bleach will be able to save it from what Brooke did to it:)

Her leg rolls make me so happy.

We had a date to go meet at my favorite lunch restaurant in the world (you have separate lunch and dinner favorite restaurants too).

I was really happy because as I was making my salad two girls complimented me on my amazing salad building technique. It feels good to be recognized for something I have spent hours of my life practicing.

The breadsticks from heaven with Ash’s eyeball.

Brooke enjoyed the food also and will write a formal review of her meal once she wakes up from her nap.

Megan (she seriously needs to start a blog), Megan and Ashley. It hurts how much I have been missing these girls and I am still offended that they didn’t agree to move out to California with me.

Favorite LUNCH restaurant?

If you had to choose between running without music or running without a garmin (or distance tracking app)… what would you choose?

-Running without a garmin, I love my music too much.

Rest day, running day or cross-training day for you?

Any songs to add to the running playlist?

My baby girl wore the same shirt as Brooke today. If you lived in Iowa, I’m sure they would be best friends.

Running without music. That would be easy since I already run without music. Today is a running and yoga day for me. I slacked off this morning which means I need to find the motivation to run tonight. We will see!

Reply

Ahhh some times but only when I’m swimming. If I’m ruinnng/walking I’m usually counting down the minutes until I’m done. I enjoy just going for a long leisurely swim without any time constraints or having to push myself.

Reply

I love Brookers thighs! Baby rolls are the best! My favorite lunch place is one back home called La Mexicana, hands down best food ever! It depends I can run a race without music but not a garmin. The atmosphere and people in the race make it enough for me. If I’m by myself I need music, I could totally track my distance by the minutes of music I listen to. Running day, taper week. I have a half marathon on Saturday. Machine Head by Bush, I know it’s an oldie but it’s so good!

Reply

That would be a hard decision…I love both my devices. I actually used to always run without music….not sure why or how but I never ran with music…now I think I might get bored!
I ran but kinda slow. I did a speed day Monday and I am actually still sore!
Those breadsticks look so yummy!!!

Reply

I’d rather go without music because unless I know a route by heart, I never know my mileage exactly without my watch! I like to be able to run without music sometimes because I feel like it’s a mental challenge to be able to run without music.

My perfect running playlist now must include “I Love It” by Icona Pop. It’s the ultimate running song!

I run without a music and without a Garmin. I just prefer to run and listen to my body, my surroundings, etc. Plus it’s safer that way when I’m running on trails in the mountains or hiking with our daughter who’s in a pack attached to me.

Today was a rest day, but a busy DIY day. I might have finally succeeded in making a great onesie for Susanna for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July which means that the race onesie might actually be a reality in the near future!

Reply

I run ‘naked’ too! When I run outside, I don’t want the music to distract me from my surroundings. I think I’d get too hung up on Garmin stats. However, if Garmin wants to give me one to change my mind, I’m game!

Reply

Now THAT is a salad – nice solid base leading up to a mountain of deliciousness. You definitely got skills, girl! ;)

I’m pretty sure I’d take music above any other electronic workout device. It’s nice to be able to zone out to the beat and not worry about numbers, but just focus on enjoying the experience. I’d have to add Remember The Name by Fort Minor onto your list though. Definitely a song that pumps me up.

Reply

oh! I missed lunch!! {insert sad face here} LOVE all you girls!

Reply

Oh girl it was so last second I knew the drive would be too long! Could you do froyo on Saturday at one?

Reply

its okay! really!! I will be in moab for a race!! PS… my friend has a bib she is selling for ogden marathon if your interested text me!

Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen. THE BEST RUNNING SONG!!!

Reply

This is my favorite, too!

Reply

I’d for sure leave my run tracking app and just have music. But today I actually went without either and it was really nice too. My favorite running song is “the middle” by Jimmy Eat World. I love the tempo and the lyrics are helpful for hard runs!!

Reply

As you know I don’t wear a garmin or headphones… I am weird I know! Call me lame but I think my favorite lunch restaurant is chick fil a. There spicy chicken sandwich/lemonade combo is unbeatable. Miss you friend!!! Brooke is getting cuter all the time. Noah’s going to be in love :-)

Reply

Chick-fil-a Spicy Chicken Sandwiches are the best! I worked at a Chick-fil-a when I was in high school, and I can confirm that the lemonade is made fresh every day. I cut a LOT of lemons in my day!

Reply

My favorite lunch restaurant is a local deli.

Well I don’t run with music or a Garmin…just a stopwatch, so I guess I wouldn’t have to give either up. But today is a rest day for me.

Reply

you HAVE to add pitbull-feel this moment to your playlist. it will change your life! (or maybe just your run). definitely my FAVE running song. also, that pink song is my fave cool-down/stretch song. i’m obsessed!

Reply

I usually run with a friend so I don’t use music but during a race I need music! I love Jason’s Deli for lunch but we don’t have one anywhere near us!

Reply

I’m not sure if I have a fave lunch restaurant since I normally pack my own lunches. ;-) I’ll go with Panera though!

And the next is easy – I most def. would rather run without a garmin (esp since I don’t have one yet – haha). But either way, I love music Too Much.

And I’d add Hezekiah Walker “99 1/2” to the mix. It’s the MOST applicable gospel song for running Ever! Love it! One of the lines from the chorus…

“Lord, I’m running… trying to make 100 because… 99 and a half Won’t Do!”

Keeps me pushing for my best! ;-)

Reply

I’m really loving Mumford & Sons right now! I don’t run with music, but I have Pandora streaming while I work. Love it when Mumford & Sons come on. Today was a cross-training day in the pool. Have been feeling great in the pool lately. If only I could convince myself to get out on my bike, I’d be ready for some tri action!

Reply

I rather run without a Garmin for sure! Ill just have my Nike app running in the background of my iPhone…is that cheating? ;)

I love running to Outkast, most if their songs have such a fast beat it makes me run faster!

Reply

P.S. I have so many favorite lunch spots, it’s hard to pick. I try to get out for lunch 1-2 times a week because I work from home and need the human interaction. On Mondays our local Mellow Mushroom has $1 cheese slices, so I love to go there after swimming laps.

Reply

I would have to have music to run without a garmin!

Reply

I would definitely choose running without garmin! I would get bored without music!
Brooke is the cutest!

Reply

I don’t run with a Garmin, so definitely music! I can’t imagine running without it.

Today was the stair mill and I was a hot, sweaty mess. It was gross, yet satisfying all at the same time.

I’m a country fan…so I would say, Blake Shelton’s “Boys ‘Round Here” or Florida Georgia Line “Cruise.”

Reply

Nooo I hate when I have to throw a shirt away=( I can’t believe bleach didn’t work, so sorry. Glad you had fun with your girls, that salad looks amazing!

Reply

Dog days are over is my fav! It’s the last song I listen when racing! For fast runs, I’d add I Gotta Feeling (Black Eyed Peas).

Rest day for me! Finally! -10 days to my half and running a 10K on Saturday!

Garmin or iPod? Garmin can stay at home, my iPod can’t!

Reply

Favorite Lunch restuarant is the Village Baker in West Jordan, worth the drive. That will be my pre-marathon lunch when I come down next month! Anything Pitbull for running songs:)

Reply

I love running to music, too! Thanks for the songs- I’ll be adding some to my list! :) Those breadsticks look too amazing. And omg Brooke’s leg rolls!! What a cutie! My fave lunch restaurant is Chipotle, definitely!

xo

Reply

Looks like a fun run playlist!! Those breadsticks….mmmmmm!

Fav lunch spot-prob Zupas!

Reply

Can you do froyo on Saturday at one?!?

Reply

I would run with out the garmin. Music is too much of a motivator for me…unless I’m with someone I can talk to :) you should add some Calvin Harris to your playlist. His songs really get me moving. My favorite lunch restaurant is Cheesecake Factory. Love the lunch portions!

Reply

Brooke’s legs <333 oh my gosh!!!!!! I would choose running without a distance app, absolutely! Music helps break up my mental blocks! I would add "Beautiful People" by Chris Brown and Afrojack to your playlist and I would also add "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke. If you haven't heard it, you need to..I LOVE it. So catchy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyDUC1LUXSU

Yummy salad! You’re making me wish I lived near a place Running without a Garmin or music: music for an everyday run, Garmin for a race. I don’t run with music during my training runs because I don’t want to be distracted when I’m out on the roads, and I also think that it makes the motivating effects of music that much more potent when I’m running my races. I also really count on my Garmin for data like splits and distance run on my training runs, so I don’t think I could give that up.

Reply

I love my music but I’d have to leave it behind – can’t live without the Garmin :)

My favorite lunch restaurant is either Chubby’s Tacos or Jason’s Deli’s salad bar!

Reply

Running without music is really nice sometimes. And if you run without a garmin.. did it really happen??
;)

Reply

Omg I love that Pink song, I was just singing it a few minutes ago!! I have to choose between music and a garmin??? That is like torture having to choose! Right now I’m loving “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys. My favorite lunch spot would either be any really good taqueria or Smashburger….yum!

Reply

Ohhh that’s tough one….. I run with music but not during races so I’d prob give that up. Love my Garmin too much :)

Great playlist – thanks! You should add some Black Eyed Peas to your list – “My Hump” and “I’ve Got a Feeling” always pump me up!

Reply

Reply

Definitely add in Carrie Underwood – Blown Away, gets me every time! I would rather run with out my Garmin probably… I am not sure though. That is a tough one!

Reply

Ewww…that’s a hard one. I would have to go without the garmin too. The music just makes you go faster. Animal by Neon Trees always gets my legs moving!

Reply

Still LOVE 300 Violin Orchestra. Thank you so much for that. Great for hills.

Have you noticed a big difference in your flexibility from when you started? It’s been a few weeks with your coach and stretch-specific training. Did you “feel” a difference right away? Gradual? Notice it in day-to-day movements not just running?

Reply

Hey! I definitely feel way less tight! My hamstrings used to always feel so tight like they were about to snap! My it band also feels so much better now that I have made stretching a huge priority (thanks to my coach).

Reply

I have trained to run without music these days and canNOT every go without my Garmin. I was surprised to have run a full marathon with no music, too!
And today was a non-running day, but high impact (an Insanity workout!).

Reply

What are YOUR favorite lunch and dinner restaurants?? I’m actually going to Salt Lake City for a couple days in June for work and would love suggestions! I won’t have a car, but am staying right downtown, so hoping to check out some good eats and maybe a hike or two while there.

My favorite lunch restaurant is a place here in Hawaii called Aloha Salads. You would LOVE it. Favorite dinner restaurant… that’s much harder. I have a favorite for each type of restaurant:) Favorite sushi, favorite tapas, favorite French, favorite Italian, favorite Latin American… I love to eat!

Reply

I could run without my music but not my Garmin.
Today I did run but only 5 crappy miles. Came home and was back in bed by 5:22 am. Just plain tired and decided I better listen to my body for once.
Great playlist….thx!

Reply

I don’t think I could function, running without my Garmin. I’d ditch the music in a heartbeat.

Also, my favourite restaurant is hands down The Mongolie Grill. You just can’t beat building your own stir fry. Lunch, dinner, breakfast, don’t even care.

Reply

I never run with music so that would be an easy choice. Leave the music. Today’s a rest day with maybe some yoga tonight

Reply

My favourite lunch restaurant is Earls (do you guys have that in the USA or is it just a Canadian thing)? They have a chicken, brie, and apple sandwich with fig jelly on it which blows my mind every time. After my half marathon, it was all I wanted. haha

Today was a cross training day, 60 minutes on the cross trainer at the gym and I did a made up crossfit-inspired circuit. It was an awesome workout day!

Reply

I can’t believe how much of our running playlists are the same! We have a hugely similar taste, I even got a couple good ideas from your list! Thanks girl!

Reply

LOVE so man of those songs on your play list! I friggin JAM to that Pink song when it is on in the car. My kids are SO lucky ;) My favorite running song is All American Rejects ‘Give You Hell’. I have no idea why. It is old. I have heard it a million times. But when it comes up I tend to dance (if outside running) or play the drums (hit the treadmill to the beat) and sing if I am inside….this might explain why I don’t have many running buddies. Wow. Just had my ‘aha’ moment.

I love ‘chick food’ for lunch. Salads and what not. Doesn’t matter where as long as I get a delicious salad. I wanted to marry mine this afternoon I loved it so much. Until I got sick :( But I feel completely fine now. So. Random. And next time we go to lunch I will be following right behind you so you can teach me your mad salad building ways.

I run without my Garmin and headphones occasionally. It is always weird to hear my feet stomp and my breathing.

It was so good to see you today. I just can’t NOT be in a good mood when I am with your happy face. Hopefully Brooke got a good nap to so she will be her happy self again!

Reply

I like Noodles & Co. No, I love it. Lunch and dinner restaurants are very different!! I don’t have a garmin and usually don’t listen to music so I don’t have an answer for that one! I was supposed to rest buuut I did slow 3 miles ;)

Reply

Would definitely rather run without a garmin…I am entirely too attached to my music when I run.

Reply

Thank you for the playlist! Even though I rarely run with music, I definitely race with music. Since I’m not used to it, it gives me an added boost. My favorite lunch place is Commander’s Palace. It is wonderful for a holiday lunch or a special lunch (I took my sister there when she visited) – super fancy and 25 cent martinis!

Reply

I seriously don’t understand people who can run without music! Like what are you listening to, your thoughts??? My headphones broke and it was about a week until I was able to get a new pair and those were my most excruciating runs ever haha.

Reply

I’m going to have to download some of those songs!!!

Reply

miss new booty!! I cant stop singing it when it comes on my shuffle and it just gives me and extra pop in my step because it makes me laugh

why do i have a feeling that your shirt was ruined by a diaper explosion?

Reply

The Owlery in Bloomington, Indiana is my favorite lunch spot. The entire restaurant is vegetarian!

Reply

Thank you so much for the running song ideas. I still have TLC on my iPod and need to do some serious revamping before my upcoming half!

Sorry about the white shirt, even without kids, I struggle to make a go of a white shirt for more than about two laundry cycles. They are magnets for messes!

Reply

My favorite lunch place is McAlisters! One finally opened up near me, and I’m so excited!

Reply

HRG you MUST add holding onto you by twenty one pilots to your playlist. Holy fast legs :)

Reply

Aren’t leg rolls the cutest?!

Reply

I would pick running without a garmin. I don’t have one now, so no big stretch for me on that one. And I kind of dig music!

Today was physical therapy exercises at home. Fun, fun.

Reply

I’d pick running without music. I never do anyways. My ears are extremely small and no headphones ever fit me so I don’t listen to music. My dog is my running partner so we chat a lot anyways.

Reply

I actually ran without music the other day. It was a short “come back from foot surgery” run and only lasted about 30 minutes, but I actually loved it. I loved todays run MORE with the music but it feels good to mix it up.

Reply

I love running with my Map My Run app on my iPhone, and rarely listen to music while running so that’s an easy one for me! I like Chipotle or Panera for a quick cheap lunch.

Reply

I LOVE Brooke’s thighs .. so adorable!!!

Favorite Lunch restaurant – Cheesecake Factory!

Reply

Without the Garmin, I’m like you I love my music it keeps on pace and just plain makes me feel good. Today was my cross training day. I just downloaded some music from One Republic.

Reply

I LOVE LOVE LOVE “Can’t Hold Us” and “Run the World” by Beyonce is my jam! Every time it comes on I run harder!
I would definitely choose to run without a Garmin.
I HAVE to have music!!!! :)

Reply

Definitely downloading some of these songs! In need of a new playlist. That new Pink song is my favorite. I can’t stop listening to it on repeat.

I can only imagine what happened to your shirt! Brooke is such a cutie though :)

Reply

I would run without a garmin! For now I’m running on the treadmill anyway, and I definitely need music for that! :) Oh and today was a running day!!

Reply

I ate dinner way too early tonight and now I’m starving for second dinner. That mile high salad looks delicious! I would definitely pick my iPod over my Garmin. I mean, I need both, but music distracts me and pushes me through my runs better. I also know all my routes like the back of my hand, so I could be cheating :)

Reply

I LOVE ‘Just give me a reason’. I’m trying to persuade the Husband to do a karaoke version with me!!! He’d rock. I love the voice of the guy from Fun!!

Reply

I would Run Without any music

Reply

I rarely run with music, so I could go without that no problem. I think I’m too obsessive to run without my watch unless I know the exact distance I’m running.

Reply

I love Panera for lunch restaurants! I would have to go sans music. I typically don’t run with music, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t really depends on the day! I love my Garmin to much to let it go! Today was a cross-training day!

Reply

Yum, those breadsticks look awesome! I don’t have a favorite lunch restaurant (mainly because I only have the opportunity to go out for lunch on rare occasions) but anyplace that will offer me half of an awesome hot sandwich and a crock of french onion soup as a cheap lunch combo is pretty much a favorite in my book. :)

I run without music every day so I guess it’s easy for me to say I’d do without it! Running without my Garmin is pretty much torture for me. Yesterday was an easy run day!

Reply

It looks like your having fun here in Utah! I’d have to say though that 2 girls are missing from that lunch picture ;)

Reply

I’d say running without a Garmin- sometimes my music is the only thing that keeps me going during a workout! Love your list of songs, I also like to listen to a lot of dance/house which is really good at pumping me up. Looks like you have an awesome camera! What do you use?

Reply

Yikes- sorry about the white shirt!!

How did I miss this post?!?! I am a person by nature and HRG comes right after I make coffee and feed the dogs in the morning.

There’s a seafood restaurant called Poor Phil’s in my town – it’s a very decent seafood place for the midwest (I did live in New Orleans for 3 years so thankfully I know what good seafood is). They have the best beer selection in town, I was pretty depressed by their oysters but they do have super yummy lobster. And the outdoor seating is heavenly in the summer.

Today’s a rest day for me but yesterday (the 8th), I did 4 miles easy on the trail – it was 81 degrees. For midwesterners, that’s really hot for early May!

My favorite song as of late is ‘Are You Tired’ by the US Infantry (not a cool spin on a band name – actually the US Infantry)

Reply

really loving “whistle” by flo rider right now. well, that is until i began my first running break in years. my heel needs to heal:(

i NEED music when i run. otherwise it’s listening to myself pant the whole time.

Reply

Running without music. I actually rarely run with music nowadays. I do run a lot of trails, though, so I ditch the music so I can be aware of what is going on around me more than anything. I just got so used to it that it carried over to all my other runs. I still treat myself to some jams from time to time.

Reply

I totally sing that Pink & Fun song VERY loud in my car. I use the RunKeeper app on my iPhone, so I listen to music and track my run. I couldn’t manage without music.
Some of my favorite songs to run to right now are (that you didn’t list):
Castle and And We Danced – both from Macklemore
On My Mind – Mitzi
Brokenhearted – Karmin
Global Concepts – Robert deLong
Where is the Love – Black Eyed Peas
Want U Back – Cher Lloyd
Bulletproof – La Roux
Chick Habit – April March
and…uh….the Party in the USA version from “Pitch Perfect” – don’t ask me why. :)

Reply

erm… I meant “loudly.”
Bad grammar.

I keep listening to the rumor lecture about receiving free online grant applications so I have been looking around for the best site to get one. Could you advise me please, where could i get some?
