I deserve an award.

Can you guess which side of Brooke’s head she was napping on?

DSC 2764

Curly on one side and straight on the other.  While Brooke has been getting better from being sick she has been sleeping for crazy amounts of time and these pictures were after her three hour nap yesterday.  Please expect to see my suitcases in photos on the blog over the next few weeks because unpacking is so not fun so I procrastinate doing it as long as possible.

DSC 2777

Billy texted me yesterday to be ready when he got home with fancy clothes on because it was time to go out and celebrate his first day of work/me being home/finishing the first year of law school.  I don’t own fancy clothes so that just meant I finally took a shower (ahem….6 pm) and put on something other than my Run Happy shirt.   (Brooke was staring at Pinkberry in the below picture… seriously, it was across the street and she couldn’t take her eyes off of it)

DSC 2785

Billy had gone to Left Bank before for a school thing and I was insanely jealous so last night he took me there so I could test it out.  Verdict= delicious.

DSC 2783

We started off with mussels in a garlic butter sauce.   I treated the garlic butter sauce in the bowl like a soup and ate it with a spoon.

DSC 2790

Once upon a time when I was a waitress at a sushi restaurant they had seared tuna on their menu.  For a few months I ordered the tuna EVERY SINGLE shift because I was so in love with it so when I saw it on the menu last night I had to get it.  It was amazing and it came with avocado, anchovies, hard boiled eggs and 15 different vegetables (don’t ask me to name them because I didn’t even know that there were 15 different kinds of vegetables).

DSC 2792

The table next to us ordered these divine things and I saw them and could not stop thinking about them.

DSC 2798

I feel like I deserve an award or a plaque or something to recognize the fact that I selflessly allowed Billy to have a few bites of it.

DSC 2800

After dinner we went over to see Bangs Friend.  3 weeks without her.  Once again, way too long.

Speaking of three weeks, I am wearing my retainer for the first time in 3 weeks and it feels like my teeth are going to fall out.

Did you have braces?  How long?  Retainer?

Seared tuna: Yay or Nay?

So…. this is random but I might be having to transition into being an early evening runner…. who else runs in the early evening?  Thoughts!!!

Ever work at a restaurant?  Which one?

YES to seared tuna!!! That dessert looks amazing. I am definitely a morning runner but yesterday we went for am evening walk and got caught in a storm so had to sprint home! So I guess both

Reply

Seared tuna just may be my favorite seafood! I worked at a small local restaurant, Sunset Grill. It was fun, but really hard.

Reply

oh my gosh that dessert looks soo good! I was JUST thinking about my old retainer the other day because I could really use a trip to the orthodontist, my teeth have shifted back. And early evening is my favorite time to run. I like bar method/pilates/yoga first thing in the morning, but when it comes to cardio I seem to do best with the day behind me.

Reply

I used to work at Red Robin! I lived in Italy for 2 months and forgot to bring my retainer and literally thought my jaw was going to break when I came home and wore it. Glad you are back with your (other) loved ones <3

Reading “Red Robin” makes me say Red Robin Yummmmmmmmm. lol

I agree 50% is very fair and enables the sndteut to go away knowing they can a) store their belongings there and b) return to the same room next term. I find some sndteuts vacate entirely, some choose to keep the room and continue to pay full rent and others will ask if they can have a discount for that period. I usually will agree 50% on the condition that they understand that all bills etc continue to be their responsiblity during the time they are not there. I have never had a problem on this approach.

I couldn’t do early evening working out but I also said I could never do working out and here I am!
I have Brooke hair like that every morning… And every day!

Reply

I had braces and never wore my retainer so I now have some lovely crooked teeth. oops. I always order seared tuna if it is on the menu, it’s my absolute favorite. I run in the evenings during the week after work but would much rather be a morning runner :/

Reply

I just started wearing my retainer again and boy can I feel it! I went for an evening run the other night and it was amazing. Most nights I’m not motivated enough though! Never tried seared tuna…I’m slowly breaking into the seafood scene ;)

Reply

I had a retainer… I wore it to sleep for 7 years and finally decided I was retiring it this past year. I don’t even know where it is anymore, but the orthodontists never told me when to stop wearing it. I think the adjustment from running in the mornings to running in the afternoons is tough at first but eventually it becomes the norm. For me, track practice is at 4:30 every day so I look forward to switching back to my morning runs. After a few days of switching from one to the other, it feels pretty normal! I do know that as a morning person, I don’t have as much energy for my afternoon practices as I do when I first wake up. Hopefully it works out for you!

Yay to braces. Nay to seared tuna.

When I run depends on where I’m living at the time mainly. Early evening running was blissful in Virginia and we’ve done a random early evening run here.

On restaurants, I’ve worked at The Original Cookie Co. and Dairy Queen.

Reply

I’ve been doing Invisalign since January – fingers crossed, only a month-ish left to go on it – so a retainer will definitely be in my future. I refuse to let my teeth shift back!

Reply

I had braces for two years, I think. I had a retainer that I wore for a couple of years and then the permanent one in my bottom teeth. I had that one taken out a couple of years ago, though.

Definitely a yes to the seared tuna!

I used to run early evening when I worked in an office. I’d get home, change, and head out the door. Now, I just run whenever. I kind of miss having a set schedule for running, but I don’t miss my old job!

Reply

I love seared tuna. I look tuna anyway it can be prepared actually. I worked in a pub called the Black Bull Tavern. They had delicious food. I usually run at lunch, in the mornings or early afternoons. I will occasionally run in the evening if I have someone to meet up with. It’s hard to make yourself run in the evening after your day of work is over.

Reply

I run for myself (personal workout) in the early morning and lead a running group in the evenings. I prefer the mornings, but enjoy the company in the evening. Se. I’d you can get a friend to join you. No to seared tuna and yes to wearing a retainer nightly and having had braces—three times!!

Reply

I had braces for a year and a half in middle school. I think I wore my retainer through most of high school, but stopped after I realized my teeth weren’t moving anymore. Nay to the seared tuna – no reason in particular aside from the fact I’ve never had it. I work at a place called Pizza Plant in college, and then at a pizzeria that my family owned.

Reply

Yum to seared tuna…barf to the anchovies!!!! I had braces but only for 10 months. I wear a retainer on the bottom at night and if I skip it more than 2 nights it is really tight.
I mainly run at an ungodly time of the morning (4:30 am 3x a week) but once a week I do an evening run…. Which in Florida is terribly hot and miserable but it’s just the way my schedule goes so I deal with it and pretend to love the extra 3 pounds of sweat :-)

Reply

I worked at Mc. Donalds for 4 years in high school and then waitressed at Bandanas BBQ for 4 years. My job now is at a gym and it’s the first job not working with food.
I also get VERY jealous when my bf gets to go out to eat at new places without me for work. It’s just not fair!
Oh, and I had braces for 3 years.

Reply

I think I am technically supposed to wear my retainer for life…that’s not happening. However, I do have to wear a mouth guard every night because I grind my teeth and my husband said it used to sound like I was chewing ice all night :-/.

I have done many early evening runs and I love it! It’s a peaceful time of day for me and I really enjoy eating dinner after a good run.

I worked at Damon’s Grill for a few years and that’s where I met my hubby. :)

Reply

Seared tuna: yay!

Restaurant job: just Starbucks through university.

Early evening runs: I do them when I can’t fit it in any other time but I often get stomach aches when I run at this time of day. I also find it difficult to fuel properly. However, it’s better than not going at all.

Reply

I was a waitress for 3 weeks. I was horrible at it! I had braces twice. I don’t remember how long but I gave up the retainer years and years ago. Luckily my teeth are still in good shape.

Reply

Your food photos make me jealous of your life.

Seared tuna: Definitely yay!!!

I’ve been running a lot in the early evening lately – I find that just before dinner is the perfect time. It’s usually a bit cooler then the middle of the day and dinner provides an incentive to run a little harder….:)

Never had braces, never needed them.

I worked at a cooking school – that was the closest I ever got to working at a restaurant. The school also sold everything they used so I worked retail, helped with classes, and did dishes!

Reply

I’m so thankful to never have had to deal with braces or a retainer, but I did have a bridge for a little while and I remember my teeth being in absolute agony.

Nay to seared tuna (I don’t like fish) but YAY to that dessert. I’ve had something similar to it before, but mine was filled with some kind of fluffy cream rather than [what looks like] ice cream.

Reply

Oh seared tuna.. yumm!
I used to run after work but definitly prefer the morning.

My LO took a random 3 h nap yesterday as well!

Reply

Yay braces; Nay seared tuna. I am terrible about remembering to wear my retainer!

I never worked at a restaurant, but I did work at a local ice cream shop during high school/college! Free ice cream = one of the reasons I joined the cross country team :)

I’m a morning runner. I like to lounge on the couch in the evenings and be lazy!

Reply

Love to run in the evening!! I’m not a early morning runner, my body just feels too stiff straight out of the bed. In the evenings the weather cools down and it just feels good! Got my first pair of Brooks this weekend, love them so far!

Reply

All my runs (with the exception of races and when I’m on vaca) are done in the early evening. I always feel energized during the afternoon just thinking (anticipating) the run. I know a lot of runners like to get up and get it done with, but I kinda like thinking about it <- strange, I know.
Yep – love seared tuna. yum
Nice manicure! ;-)

Reply

The curly on one side and straight on the other thing looks way cuter on Brooke than it does on me. C’est la vie. :-)

Reply

I’m not a big seafood person but man, you make all your food look good. Love Brooke’s curls, so cute!

I run in the early evening! Well I used to before I joined a gym because it’s too hot/humid in Texas to run. I used to go out between 7-7:30 and be done right as the sun had mostly gone down. It’s a great time to run. Humid and a bit warmer than the morning but it’s nice to end the day with a run and the sunset is so pretty!

Reply

I had braces and still wear my retainer. If I go too long without wearing it it definitely feels like a torture device.

I do about half my runs in the early evening. It’s not bad, I prefer the mornings because I’m more likely to have stomach problems in the evening…there’s just more in there at that point

Reply

I am more of an afternoon/evening runner, because I like to sleep in! But when I do run first thing, it’s a great feeling! Just haven’t felt the need to get up early :)

I worked at Outback for 5 years!

I worked at Outback for 5 years, too! :)

Small world!! I loved it, but am so glad I don’t work in the restaurant industry anymore!!

I met my husband working there, so it (and the cheese fries) will always have a special place in my heart! But I was not sorry to leave the restaurant industry either!!

Reply

Oh em gee. The cheese fries. YUMMMMMY!

Reply

OMG I love Outback!!! And I met my BF while working in a restaurant as well- I trained him, then I got fired and he replaced me… that’s when we started dating!!!

Reply

So glad I’m not the only one that still wears my retainer. If I don’t wear it for a few days it’s definitely painful.

I’m about 50/50 with morning/evening runs. It’s tougher to get motivation in the evening, but ends up being a great de-stresser at the end of the day :)

Reply

I had braces for three years, and my teeth moved, drives me nuts now. Love seared tuna!! Hmm I run in the mornings, I don’t have time to do it in evenings, and honestly by the end of the day I dont’ want to run :)

Reply

I love tuna, but cooked to its finest!

I’ve worked at sports complex reception desks, gardening, and currently at a gym ** Gold’s Gym to be exact! I love early morning runs, they give me so much energy for the day, and I like to veg out in the evenings instead of doing workouts.

Yippee for retainers and you getting back on the wagon, as a dental hygienist it’s nice to hear about the people who can be diligent about their appliances! Yay for straight teeth and healthy mouths, haha.

Reply

I’m starting to love mid-morning runs because I take my son to the gym and have an hour to myself to do whatever happens. I wish they didn’t have to be on the treadmill but I really don’t mind. My dogs are a little spazzy when people come/go so the only true times I run early and outside are the weekends.

I wore a retainer back in the day because I used to grind my teeth and wake everyone up – haha! I also worked at Tony Romas and was a singer at Macaroni Grill while I was in school. Oh and seared tuna?? Yes, please!

Reply

I love seared tuna! Yes I was a waitress during college and loved it. I gave up on my retainer looooong ago.

Reply

Wow, that dessert looks SO good! I worked at Chick-fil-a for three years in high school. We used to take the lemon pies out of the freezer and eat slices while they were still frozen. Delicious!

I really prefer to run in the morning and get it done for the day. I have a hard time getting to sleep if I exercise in the evenings. Before my girls were born, my husband and I were gym rats and went to the gym to lift or spin most evenings.

Reply

Never had or needed any braces or retainer – I was one of the few kids I think!
Yay! I miss sushi right now, I have had some veggie or cooked shrimp ones but that is all till baby is here!
I almost always have been an evening runner and would run after work, so about 5pm. Only thing was much over 10km would be too long since I still had to come home make and eat supper.

Reply

Early evening runner here!
Absolutely has become my favorite time on weekdays. Love, love, love.

Looks like a great date night with Bill.

Reply

Oh my gosh! I love tuna! I am so picky about where I get it bc it’s so lightly cooked, but I just had the most amazing tuna at a hibachi restaurant and I am craving moooore!

Have fun with billy! I’m sure you missed him so much!

I have a retainer and I wear it about once a month. I really should be better at that…

Reply

Los Hermanos?! I worked there too!!

I run in the evenings about 50% of the time and I actually really love it. I feel like I’m not trying to wake up through the first mile of my run and I feel like it helps me unwind and sleep better at night.

I also love sushi. Next time you’re in the Provo/Orem area, you need to try Yamato’s sushi on State street in Orem. We are frequent flyers there.

Reply

I did late afternoon running for a bit and my body liked it because I had a great run almost every day. I didn’t like it, I’m more of an early running person, but I ran faster. The trick for me was to have a snack right after teaching and go right to the gym/run spot. If I went home first, it was game over and the run wasn’t getting done, haha.

Reply

I have braces now (in my 30’s) which is killing me. I can’t eat any of my favourite snack foods and it makes it tricky when racing as I always ate chews not gels. And I haven’t even lost any weight from it – boo! :) Oh well, only 16 more months. I hope.
I am an evening runner, definitely. The key is to make sure you still get out there, because of course, it is easy to say “I’m too tired” etc. But I love running later, and I pretend it is getting cooler outside because it is getting dark. I live in Florida so it is NEVER cooler, but it makes me feel better.
BTW, my BF loved his orange Garmin and ran with it the day it arrived. Now I am jealous and have to get a purple one for me… :)

Reply

Those mussels look amazing! I am not sure if I’m a fan of seared tuna or not, I haven’t tried it and I would only try it if one of my friends or family ordered it at a restaurant. I have a rule where I don’t try “new” foods as my own entree because if I hate it then I will be hungry and sad for the rest of the night. haha.

I used to work at Tony Roma’s through university. Unfortunately with my work schedule I am an evening runner through the week days. Last night I had a Clif bar at 4:30pm and then when we ran (left around 6:15pm) I was raring to go! Seriously it was the best pre-run fuel.

Reply

I was never a waiter but I worked at Jamba Juice for awhile, that was fun! No retainer, and I’m not sure about the tuna I’ve never had it!!

Reply

No braces but I definitely needed them. My mom fought the dentist every time because she said my teeth were only a little crooked and that she didn’t want to invest in them for me. My sister had braces, though. I’m guessing mom thought her teeth were worse than mine. Sorry sissy. I don’t really eat fish at all because I like to know where it comes from and restaurants usually do not have the answer to that, so I’m ging to have to say nay.

It’s too hot/humid here in FL to be an early evening runner…so I’ll stick with my morning runs before things heat up!

Reply

Looks like you guys had a great night! The food looks amazing!
I had braces from 8th grade until my sophomore year of high school. Then I had a retainer to wear for basically the rest of my life, but I hardly ever wear it now! But I do have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth! It depends on the day, sometimes I do early evening and sometimes I do early morning! I can run at anytime, just not on a lunch break! I use to work at a restaurant in Walt Disney World!

Reply

CONGRATULATIONS TO BILLY!!!!!!!!!!! The first year is the worst, so things should be looking up!!!! He should be very proud for making it (and I’m assuming doing so well since he got that internship!)!!!

Reply

I had to transition from an early evening runner to an early morning runner when I moved to FL… it was hard but I think you can really get used to anything when there is running involved :) It’s great that everything is going so well for you and your husband!! I love seared tuna so going through withdrawal while I’m pregnant. Never a waitress, probably better off as I’d probably drop way too many dishes or eat all the food. Or both.

Reply

Braces for 4 yrs, retainers for many years after that. Then I lost them, but wish I had kept wearing them. Things have moved.

I tuna sashimi, is that the same thing?

I worked at Cracker Barrel, an Italian place, a little hole in the wall breakfast place and a few others I think.

I think Brooke and I might be matchers…happens to me all the time!

Looks like you had a nice family dinner out. I love that they let you pour your own chocolate over that dessert. I generally don’t eat tuna at restaurants because most often they’re serving species that aren’t sustainably harvested like bluefin tuna, which I won’t eat. I do miss tuna in sushi sometimes, but I’d just feel too guilty eating it.

Reply

During the school year I’m a 4 O’Clock runner. I don’t love it because I feel like I’m going to throw up my lunch and it’s super windy at 4. But it’s great stress relief and I’ve convinced my self that running in the wind is like a speed workout. Let’s just go with that ok?

Reply

Keep up with the retainer! I stopped wearing mine in high school (maybe my teenage self was embarrassed that my 12 year old self had selected a glow-in-the-dark rainbow retainer??) and now my teeth have moved!

I worked at Outback Steakhouse and met my husband there! We ate A LOT of cheese fries. :) I also worked at P.F. Chang’s and when I was training it was mandatory to end every training shift by trying 3-4 things on the menu until I ate everything on THE WHOLE MENU!

Reply

I have always loved running early evening (like right after work) the best. I read that your body’s internal temperature is warmest at that time and heart rate/blood pressure are lowest, which can improve performance and lessen your chances of injury. Don’t take my word it’s just what I’ve read somewhere. But I always feel like I have more energy then too.

Reply

I swear, i’ve flip flopped back and forth between early morning and early evening runs over my years of running…they both have their pros and cons :) Early evening runs can be really nice, unless its super hot out and then not so much…so most of my early evening runs are done in the spring/fall. i usually have a snack around a hour beforehand and then shower and eat dinner as soon as i get home…bonus is that i usually have no problems falling asleep a few hours later!

Reply

I wouldn’t have been able to take my eyes off pinkberry, either. :P

Your food looks absolutely mouth-watering. I LOVED seared tuna, and if its anywhere on the menu, I will get it. One of my favorite foods EVER (then again, there are a lot of those…)

Reply

Me neither! I love Pinkberryyyy!

I got braces at the age of 37 for about 8 months. If I got more than a day or 2 without wearing my retainer when I sleep my teeth ache horribly.
I’m afraid I’ve never been a tuna fan. Just can’t do it.
I’ve worked at an A&W, a Dairy Queen and a small family restaurant in Valley City, ND.
I’m an early evening runner when it’s not too hot out. I can’t seem to get my butt out of bed in the morning, plus I’ll need at least an hour to cool down before I start getting ready for work. I don’t want to wake up at 4…

Reply

I had braces for only 14 months and I should wear my retainer but haven’t in years. Eek.

I love early evening runs… the summer heat is kind of ridiculous during them though.

Reply

Had braces for 4 years and was super good afterwards about wearing my retainer and then it broke and I never got it fixed. My teeth have very slightly shifted, but I’m the only one who can really tell.

I use to run in the early evening- around 4:30-5 PM but now that it’s so bloody hot, I have to get out the door before 7 AM. My favorite time for awhile there was 11 AM and the entire time I’d think about my lunch.

Reply

Three years of braces. You can imagine how fun that was. Luckily, I had them young and got them off in middle school when many of my friends were still getting them on.

Reply

I run in the evenings (6 or 7pm)! I tried morning runs, but I don’t have time to go further than my neighborhood and I got too bored. Plus, the benefit of the evening run is that you can de-stress after work or a hard day. But the downside is, if you get stuck at work or some situation comes up, you might miss your run or not have time to do as much as you wanted.

Reply

I run in the mornings during the school year, but when my girls are home for the summer, then I transition to my three months as an evening runner! I always have a snack around 4:30 or 5:00 so I’m not ravenous when I head out, and then eat a light dinner afterwards. I could never be an evening runner during the winter months when it’s practically dark at 4:00 p.m here in WI, but the days are so long in the summer that I usually feel great running in the evenings. I do try and wrap my runs up before 8pm, otherwise I tend to be up way past my usual bedtime, which is never good when you have kids who wake up at 6 am on the dot :)

Congrats to ‘Bill’ on finishing his first year of law school! I remember how exciting it was to get the first year of law school out of the way.

Also seared tuna is a big, fat YAY!

Haha I’m obsessed w/ wearing my retainer.
3 weeks without would stress me out!
Glad you’re back in CA, lets go running.

Reply

I find it amazing how quickly my teeth move when I don’t wear my retainer for a few days. Imagine if I never wore it again. Would all those years in braces be for naught?

Reply

I had braces until the end of 8th grade. I remember fantasizing about having them off right in time for school dance photos. My retainer is permanent, thank goodness, because I’d be too lazy to wear it.

Seared tuna, Yay!!

I run after work and can usually get out there by 5:45 or 6pm. I used to rush to get out there so that I could run in the sun after a looong winter. It’s been 80 degrees in NYC for the past 2 days so I’m starting to think I’ll try to get there a little later so the sun is going down by then.

I worked at Chili’s as a hostess. Gosh, I could really go for a buffalo chicken salad right now.

Reply

That dessert looks amazing! That’s quite an artsy way of pouring the chocolate on it! Looks like you’ve been doing it all your life.

I love morning and can do mid-day runs, but any time after that I normally don’t do very well.

Reply

mmmmmh I would have been just like Brooke, I love Pinkberry!
You hate unpacking too!?! I came back from vacation almost 2 weeks ago and still haven’t unpacked. I said this weekend. We shall see!

Never worked at a restaurant, had seared tuna, or wore braces!!

I run about 6:30/7. Not sure if that is “early evening” but it’s good because the sun is beaming.

Reply

Love seared tuna! Had braces at 19, then my widsom teeth came out and messed up everything =(

I waited tables all over Manhattan for almost 7 years to pay for college- didn’t really enjoy it, customers in NYC can be very annoying!

I am a morning person/evening runner- I feel I have much more energy in the evening and I don’t have to worry about being late for work and such! However, I should really start doing my long runs in the morning to get more used to races…

Reply

I worked at one restaurant as a hostess and I was the one who every waitress came to to bitch about work. Haha. I was like a therapist, I swear I should have gotten paid more! I’ve never had seared tuna but look at it every.single.time I’m at Wegmans. I love raw sushi, so I think I’d like it. I used to run in the evenings sometimes. The best time is to time it while the sun is going down!

YAYYYY so glad you’re home!! :) That dessert looks incredible! And wow you’ve worked at a LOT of restaurants! I worked at Old Spaghetti Factory through college :)

The nap picture cracked me up because I have the same thing happen to me when I sleep and get sweaty- my hair is naturally wavy so I always seem to wake up with mini curls.

That dessert looks divine!! I’ve only had ahi tuna at sushi buffets…. Mmmm yum! I as scheduled to wear braces for six months, but a stubborn tooth that wouldn’t grow in turned it into a 2.5 year experience. Now I wear retainers, but they’re the plastic mold kind and I grind my teeth sooo I’m due for a new pair

Reply

I got braces when I was 42 years old and wore them for 3 years!! Today at 46 I wear my retainers each night!!!

Reply

ahh, i used to hate wearing my retainer… now i have a permanent retainer behind my front bottom teeth, but it’s so hidden and tiny that i forget it’s even there!

i used to work at coco’s bakery restaurant as a hostess. i used to drool over the display case of fresh pies during my shifts, haha :)

YES to seared ahi tuna! i made ahi for dinner on monday night and it was so amazing :) i could eat it every week!

Reply

If I had my choice I would always head out for a run around 8am. Unfortunately, I have an 8-5 job and this only can happen on long run Saturdays! I end up running after work, between 6 – 7:30pm, but it gets harder as the summer months approach (I live in Texas). I have also started noticing bad stomach issues at this time of day! Although I am a morning person, I have such a hard time getting up to go run at 5am! However, I am starting a marathon class in July which will force me to run at 5am 3 days a week, so I am looking forward to having an accountability group!

I had braces for 4 years when I was a kid, then didn’t wear my retainers, then got Invisalign as an adult about 4 years ago. Best decision EVER! Now I religiously wear my invisalign retainers like it’s my job. Even when I was giving birth to my son, just after I had him, I put those suckers in…after 1 day their tight, so I know I have to wear them every night. Running? What’s that? J/K, off running while pregnant, but hope to get that Double Bob (which I bought this weekend, LOVE REI 15% off sale!) going soon after…

I’ve also been trying to switch some of my running days to the evening so I’ll be paying close attention to these comments for advice!

I’ve worked at so many restaurants and I actually really miss it sometimes. My last serving job was at this fantastic local restaurant- they focused on organic ingredients (mostly locally sourced) and had AMAZING healthy food. We got to eat one free meal per shift and that was the best job perk ever!

Reply

Love seared tuna! I had never had it before and then the hubs took me on a fancy date and it was to die for. That dessert looks amazing (as all the desserts you guys have do!)

I worked in restauarants all my teenage and college years, and a couple post-college too before I landed a “big girl job.” I kind of miss it sometimes because I loved having fun with my coworkers and not having to take everything SO seriously.

I am an early evening runner right now. Not my favorite, but I get up at 5 for work so to run beforehand would have me getting up at 4 or earlier which I refuse to do unless I am getting a medal at the end. I usually run around 5pm and it’s pretty much torture but I am getting faster and I think it’s because I just run as hard as I can so it will be over. Good luck!

I definitely had braces..hated them! Wore my retainer until I got to college and then stopped! I found it the other day and cleaned it, then tried to put it in and it was SO uncomfortable! haha I probably should get fitted for a new one, but at this point my teeth seem fine, so hopefully they don’t move drastically any time soon!

Oh and quickly I have a favor to ask…
I got picked as one of the finalists in the Brooks My First Half Sweepstakes and now am in need of votes! If you could click on the link, read my story, and cast a vote that would mean the world to me!! Thanks so much :)

I love that you worked at so many food restaurants! hahahah :)

I’ve never tried seared tuna…hmmmmm…

And yep! I wear a retainer, every night!

p.s. LOVE that pic of you 3 by the restaurant

I have always enjoyed running in the afternoon/evenings. It gives me time to reflect on the day and how to make the next one just as awesome or better. The one obstacle I have a hard time with is if I am tired after a long day, but once I get out there and run I feel 100x better. Another obstacle would be a long run, which is a little difficult in the winter months when it gets darker earlier. Otherwise, its my favorite time to run. :-)

Omg that picture of Brooke staring at pinkberry is too cute! I’ve eaten at Left Bank once, I remember having some cheese fondue that was amazing!

I LOVE seared ahi tuna….if I go anywhere and it’s on the menu, I will always order it. Yum!

Never had braces.

Does working at McD’s or Baskin Robbins count as a restaurant? Those were my high school jobs, lol.

Whoa! That dessert looks insanely delicious!

Yes I had braces but I’m really bad a wearing my retainer.

I worked at Olive Garden, McDonalds and one of the eateries on my college campus. I’ve had my fair share of the food industry haha

Ah yes! Profiteroles! Luscious pillows of pastry, sandwiching cool vanilla ice cream, with a warm, fudgy chocolate sauce drizzled on top….Ay-May-Zing!

Perhaps this dessert description gives away the fact that I had worked at an upscale French restaurant, while supporting myself through college. Tough work memorizing everything, but boy oh boy was the free wine diviiiine ;)

I run a few times a week in the evening after my husband gets home. Usually he has to push me out the door cause by then my four kids have taken all my energy. But I always feel awesome afterwards. It makes me feel like a good mom again.

I used to work at Matsumoto’s Shave Ice, but I don’t think that counts as a restaurant.

I don’t understand morning runners. I get my runs in after work, usually around 6:30 just before I eat dinner. Plus, I record all my TV shows and then I just fast forward through the commercials.

Ugh…braces and a retainer! Braces for 2 1/2 years! Then the retainer followed. I didn’t wear it like I should have….wound up losing it and that was that!

Seared tuna: Yay…..I’d give it a go. Never had it before though..

I’ll probably become an evening runner. Just working through an injury now….PT gave me the ok to start using the elliptical again…so progress!

I’ve worked at Applebee’s and Great American Land & Cattle. Not to mention a few bars as well. Definitely made more money as a cocktail waitress. :)

You have the cutest family!! :)
I had braces for a year and a half and I still wear my retainers. Those pesky things will follow me for the rest of my life.

HOLY COW that’s a gorgeous meal!

Evening running is THE BEST! I love having my post-work runs, they help me to shake off the day and get my appetite up for dinner. I also notice that I sleep better! I love a good morning run, I just don’t have time in my schedule for morning runs except for the weekend.

My retainer is my worst enemy but lately I’ve been wearing it every night because I’ve noticed my teeth shifting a little. Istill hate it though!

Loving this app! Could you add a stir fry catagory. And would it be polsibse to make it so you can pick how often you shop for a particular item. For instance if you go shpping every week, and only shop for some things every 2 weeks, or once a month, instead of always.

I used to have a retainer and now just have a mouth guard for teeth grinding that I wear to bed. Sometimes when I don’t wear it for a while, it feels like my teeth are going to fall out too haha.

I had braces for seven years! I also have a permanent retainer on my top and bottom teeth, I feel your pain :/ .

The dentist still doesn’t know if I’ll need braces, haha! I’ve never tried seared tuna. It looks yummy though! I haven’t had a job yet but when I get one it will definitely be at a restaurant. I prefer morning running but I normally have to do evenings because of school and practice times..

So glad Brooke is starting to feel better- I’m always thinking about her (& you too! :) ) especially whenever I see the matching clothes our girls have- like the yellow onesie. Target is dangerous ;) Have you seen the new summer clothes yet?! AHH! I just pretty much bought all of them. Crab outfit is still one of my favorites :D
SO happy you guys are reunited as a family again- the cutest family ever!!!!

My hair looks like Brooke’s when I wake up from naps too!

That picture of the seared tuna makes my mouth water. I need it now (I clearly haven’t learned the difference between need and want yet).

I love running in the evening. I leave for work too early to run before so I always run in the early evening and look forward to it all day. It’s the perfect way to end the day.

Love, love, love tuna ~ seared, sashimi, love it all!
Oh, I did my stint as a waitress at an Applebee’s many moons ago…such a great life experience.
Love your blog and lil Miss Brooke is such a cutie pie!

Oh my gosh i haven’t had my computer for weeks! Like no use whatsoever. Obviously a tragedy. I feel like i’ve missed out on soo much! Tempted to not go to work today so i can spend the rest of the day catching up on blogs… Clearly i will be reading all the posts that i’ve missed. Also, i think Brooke has gotten bigger since the last post i read.

congrats to you and bill for finishing the first year of law school. i congratulate both of you b/c it is a team effort when you are married with kids. we’re in the same boat. year 1 = done!!!
those look like cream puffs. my mom would make those for special occasions and we always LOVED them.
early evening running could be good. but i would recommend eating lighter throughout the day. if i go in the afternoon/evening my stomach is not always up for it. pb and j are perfect lunches for me then. maybe an apple or something else light. but hey running is running right? if i get to i’m happy:)

I did have braces for about 6 months
Nay for the tuna … bleh!
If you run in the evening, run at 5 or 6 for your long runs. Running any later than that makes you too hyper to fall asleep
Never worked at a restaurant

Oh man, I wore my retainer’s for the first time in weeks last night too! My teeth were angry with me this morning. Hubby loves when I wear them to bed, he likes when I try to talk with them in :)

I miss seared ahi SO much. I’m 31 weeks preggo and can’t wait to get my sushi on once this little one arrives!

Congrats to Billy for being done with 1L!!! As a fellow newly minuted 2L I know how relieved he must feel! That dinner place looks fantastic. I love mussels for an appetizer and a butter sauce sounds divine.

Also, this is random but your hair looks FANTASTIC in these pics :D

Brace yourself this takes a while to exilpan .While in AmeriCorps (government sponsored volunteer work, similar to the Peace Corps), my team was stationed near Knoxville, TN, working for the local Boys & Girls Club. Our housing was near the premier fitness facility in town. An on-site trainer ran a sports performance program for college/professional athletics-bound high school and college kids. Since I still considered myself an athlete at that time, I took a lot of the classes in my spare time (the owner of the gym sat on the Board of the Boys & Girls Club, so I got to do it for free). One class was a high-energy water sprint class. Basically, we did all kinds of water aerobics and underwater sprinting. The class was filled with about 20 late teen/early twenties boys. I was 23 and a girl, so naturally, I was always the last to finish. At the end of a long workout, we had to do 20 touch jumps, where you squat and touch your toes underwater, then explode up out of the water as high as you can, with your arms straight above your head, jumping out of the water to about your waist. In AmeriCorps, you are not allowed to pack very many clothing items since there is not much room in a 15 passenger van for 12 people and all their stuff. The only swim suit I had was a one-piece halter top that clipped at the back of my neck. You see where this is going .I’m not really a water person, so the underwater touch jumps were hard for me. I basically did them in a haze with my eyes closed, talking to myself and psyching myself up to finish them without drowning. I finished my jumps, calmed my breathing and opened my eyes to see about half the class bug-eyed, gaping at me and the other half turned the other direction, with their hands over their eyes. Yup. It happened just as you are imagining a worst-case scenario.During this touch jump session, my suit came unhooked behind my neck at some time during the repetitions. I would go underwater, touch my toes, then explode up out of the water, flashing the quite-good-looking instructor and all the boys who were finished with their reps. I’m sure it was quite a scene I was told that I just looked like I was totally naked. I came to find out that the suit came unhooked during the second or third rep. So, I not only flashed the class (and anyone who walked by) once or twice, but 17 or 18 times.

Braces for 1 year and 4 months to fix my crossbite. I received a retainer after getting them removed; however, I never wore my retainers and I think my teeth have shifted a bit.

No thank you on the tuna, or seafood for that matter. I just cannot stomach eating any type of seafood. It reminds of insects that live in the water instead of on land. Yuck!

I love running in the early evening. I wish I had the energy and commitment to get up in the morning and run, but I’d rather just stay in the comfort of my bed.

I didn’t work at a restaurant, but I was a waitress at a country club during my summers in college. They had the best sweet potato fries and banana bread pudding.

Love seared tuna! I can’t find it around here too often though, I tried it for the first time in Mexico last year.

I had braces for 1.5 years I think… and I only wore my retainer for like, 6 months after they came off. My teeth stayed in place for the most part.

NO to seared tuna only because I’ve tried so many times to like seafood and I just cannot handle it :(

I worked at a BBQ restaurant (counter service) and had a brief stint as a waitress/bartender at a Holiday Inn restaurant in college.

I WAS an early evening runner and recently had to transition to an early morning runner because the heat in FL is unbearable at this time. I enjoyed running after work but there were some days I just dreaded it the entire day if I was feeling lazy. I like the fact that I run and am done before I even have a second to dread it since I go right when I wake up.

I finished Invisalign a few months ago, and wear a retainer every night. If I forget to wear it just one night, my teeth hurt so bad! But my teeth look awesome so I can’t complain :) loooove seared tuna! And I never was a waitress which is probably a good thing! I’d drop it all!

That dessert looks so good! I really don’t think I could share it. You’re nicer than me.

I was a waitress at Bob Evan’s.. Not as good as being a waitress at a sushi restaurant.
