An important question that has nothing to do with running or food.

It was borderline weird how obsessed I was with finding Brooke the perfect pair of jelly sandals for this summer.  I think that I just have so many fond memories of the adventures I had as a kid in my jelly sandals as a kid that I needed to find her the perfect pair.

Payless won my heart… especially when they gave me a $4 off coupon which made the sandals only $5.99.  Love the high that comes from 1. finding exactly what you want 2. an awesome deal and 3. when sparkles are involved.

DSC 3115

She only kicked them off 4 times yesterday afternoon (which is exceptional compared to her last sandals where she would kick them off 4 times every 10 minutes).

We went to Downtown Willow Glen to meet a friend and her little boy (ps those thighs) to walk around the shops and for the most amazing creamery.

I believe a big part of my happiness comes from the fact that I eat so much ice cream.  The twix topping also helps.   I have only been to this creamery once before and I have to say that this place beats every single other froyo/ice cream place I have ever been to.  They make it for you and give you a ton of froyo (this was the mini!) and it is extra creamy.

I had grand plans to make a broccoli, quinoa and edamame dish for dinner but when Billy called me on his way home from work he told me that he had been craving our leftover pizza for dinner all day long.    I guess tomorrow night I will attempt to make a real dinner.

For all of you lovers of running with music….

Screen Shot 2013 05 28 at 5 42 24 PM

This website is full of songs with fast beats to match your running!

I have a skin care question for you.  I am on the hunt for the best face wash in the country.  I have been using this stuff for a while but I don’t think it is working….

DSC 3132

What face wash do you use?!?!  Tell me what you think about it.  I need your help desperately!!!

What was the last good deal that you got?

Tell me a toy, food and clothing item that remind you of childhood?

-Pogs (and polly pockets and pound puppies), Dunkaroos (squeeze-its and lunchables) and jelly sandals (and overalls, shoes that light up when you walk).

Jellies!!! I definitely rocked the high heeled jellies at one time… no shame. I need those for Gentry.
I use yes! face wash and I love it because it’s all natural and gentle… they have a whole line of products!

Aveeno works well for us! Childhood memories… Spaghettios, gushers, and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen :-)

Reply

Jellies! I didn’t know they still made them–so glad they do! I have used Clinique wash/Make up since middle school. Barbies remind me of my childhood summers.

Reply

I use the neutrogena pink grapefruit face wash and I love it. I would say pizza for dinner is a good compromise to cooking real food. I’d take it. Love Brooke’s new sparkly jellies! I think I had a red pair growing up…

Reply

ME TOO!

http://www.neutrogena.com/category/acne/oil-free+acne+wash+pink+grapefruit.do

I don’t have acne and never did, but this stuff is amazing!

Reply

Totally agree! Neutrogena has done wonders for my skin (and for a few of my friends) I personally use neutrogena oil free acne face wash (the orange colored face wash) but I know others who use the Grapefruit scrub and they love it/swear by it. It lasts forever too, I started using a pump bottle of mine almost over a year ago and I sometimes wash my face 3 times a day and I just NOW ran out.

Reply

That’s what I use too! I finally found it a couple of years ago and I’ll never switch to anything else. It’s awesome for combination skin. Mine’s really oily in the spring/summer and dry in the fall/winter

Reply

I love those jellies! I’ll be getting a pair for my baby girl right away!

I’ve also been using Cetaphil for a while, but I also use St. Ives Invigorating Scrub as well. It feels good to get some of the nastiness off with the scrub ;-).

Things that remind me of chilehood…Babysitters Club books, taping songs off of the radio, teddie grahams with the icing for dipping (not sure if I was actually a child when this came out), watching TGIF on Friday nights (Full House, Family Matters, Step by Step).

Reply

i like neutrogenia naturals- i like the purifying face scrub as well as the purifying facial cleanser- http://www.neutrogenanaturals.com/products

I agree with this! I have noticed a difference in my skin since using the Neutrogena products.

Reply

yup this is the best

Reply

Origins checks and balances frothy face wash cannot be beat! I love how sudsy it gets with the teensiest bit. Lasts forever. Hope this helps! Xx

Reply

Agreed! I want to love Neutrogena but it is way too drying for my skin. Checks and balances is the perfect amount of cleansing and non-drying.

Sit ‘n’ Spin was my all time favorite toy as a kid! My grandparents had one, and it was the best to play on after the 8 hour drive to their place! Oh, and Lincoln Logs were fabulous, too!

I refuse to buy anything full price, so the best deal I got was…hmm? Maybe the start up fixings for 3 projects for under $5 at JoAnn’s last week. (I’ll need to get a bit more, so 3 projects for maybe $15 isn’t so bad. Especially if the Andy Warhol-inspired mobile turns out as I hope!)

Reply

My mom just bought a sit n spin for my 19 month old ! He doesn’t really get it yet, and I so wish it was big enough for me to hop on and show him!!

Reply

Oh my goodness, I JUST bought Gabriella purple jellies from babies r us last week. How funny!!! Great minds think alike :)
I need some more frozen yogurt in my life immediately!!

Reply

I loved jellys as a kid!! Brooke’s are soo cute! I had a couple pairs as my foot got bigger, they were always the bright pink ones. I use cetaphil and i love it. it was the first cleanser that actually helped clear up my acne. i use the one for all skin types though. ive also had luck with oil of olay in the past.

Reply

I use the Neutrogena grapefruit scrub and like it a lot. I switch it up between that adn some Lancome cleanser since I can’t scrub my face everyday. I used to love jelly sandals! What a great find. Jello pudding packs remind me of being a kid. So tasty and full of memories!

Love the closed-toe jellies! I was on the hunt for them last year (we need closed-toe shoes for daycare) and had to settle for these (which are still awesome, but she couldn’t wear to daycare) http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=37505&vid=1&pid=381745012

For face, I LOVE the tea tree line from The Body Shop. It’s the only thing that seems to work on my face.

Reply

The best, BEST face wash is by Aqua Glycolic. Usually you have to ask your pharmacist for it – we either keep it behind the counter or special order it (I carry it in my pharmacy but that’s just because I buy it haha!). It’s a little pricey – $18 – but one pump bottle lasts me 9 to 12 months, so it isn’t so bad over time.
I had adult acne for years and nothing, not even prescription tretinoin, really made it go completely away. I did the research and bought some Aqua Glycolic and now I’m acne-free! I use it at night and use apricot scrub in the morning in the shower.

Reply

I am a Mary Kay user… I used to think it was “old lady”, but I’ve been a MKer for almost 3 years now and LOVE of it! I recently added some of their other products to my daily regimen (make up, other face care, etc), but I started with facial cleanser and moisture 2x a day. Besides those three days a month, my skin is awesome!

Reply

The best face wash is the tea tree oil wash from Trader Joes. It’s only $5.99 for a bottle and it lasts forever!

Reply

I love Brooke’s jelly sandals!! I have to say the face wash from Trader Joes (Tea Tree Oil) is amazing! It is natural so your face feels really refreshed when you are done cleaning! All of there body products are amazing! Whenever I see roller blades (little kids) I always think of my dad and me going out during the summer and skating together!

Reply

JANAE you MUST start using coconut oil. For the first 23 weeks of my pregnancy my skin looked like the before shot in the Proactive commercial. I started using coconut oil just over two weeks ago and haven’t had a single blemish yet. My skin tone even looks 10x better!

I just use it like a makeup remover – I grab a cotton makeup remover pad, and rub the oil all over my face. I use a couple pads until they are clean (ie no makeup or dirt on them). Then I splash my face with cold water and dry with a towel. No need for moisturizer and I just slap my makeup on top.

TJs brand is $5.99 and a jar lasts FORever. Hope you try it and love it.

PS: Cetaphil didn’t work for me either. Neither did Aveeno Acne Wash or TJs tea tree oil cleanser.

Reply

I’ve read that coconut oil is so good for our face but i’m so afraid of putting oil right in my face. Didn’t cause breakout? Thanks:)

Reply

Nope! I read that when you use certain products they strip your skin of its natural oils and so your body works overtime to produce more and that’s what causes breakouts. Coconut oil doesn’t do this – and it’s antibacterial, antimicrobial, and an antioxidant. I know it seems counterintuitive to put oil on your face but it works!

Reply

I just bought coconut oil for a recipe I’ve been dying to try (homemade peanut butter chips anyone?) and now I definitely need to try it on my face too. It has to be better than all those additives and unpronounceables in most face products!
Thanks!

Reply

I LOVE coconut oil. I’ve never used it on my face (but will try immediately) but I used it as nipple cream when breastfeeding (sorry if that’s TMI) and I use it as a moisturizer/diaper cream for my son. The antibacterial qualities are amazing and it works wonders for everything. It also tastes good. Best product on the planet!

Reply

coconut oil is so versatile similiar to olive oil!

Reply

I am glad someone else mentioned coconut oil. My skin thanks me every day for using it! I slather it on before my shower and let it steam, then just gently wipe it off when I am done or I just use it after I wash my face in the shower. I also use it all over my body as a moisturizer. It has completely rid my face/nose of all blackheads and I rarely get any zits anymore. It also fixed mt nasty dry feet/heels! miracle. I am obsessed. The best deal is at Costco for a huge tub of nutiva brand. I have tried several other brands and like nutiva the best by far. Good luck!

Reply

I use Clinique’s face wash system. not cheap – but certainly like it.

Had a couple good deals lately! a Black shealth dress from Old Navy for $10 a few wks ago & clearance at Banana Republic was pretty good to me this last weekend when it was 50% off

Reply

Okay, those baby-sized jellies are just too cute!

Childhood memories: Barbies, Sprinkle Spangles, and I’ll also go with jellies! :)

Reply

Clinique is the best. It’s not cheap but it works. I used to use the 3 step system but once it wore out I switched to their general face wash and use a cheaper toner and moisturizer – it’s great!

Reply

I agree! I used to do the 3 step but now just use the Clinique liquid facial soap (mild) and it works like a charm. I also use the Clinique 7 Day Scrub Clean once a week for some exfoliation. The bottles last longer than you’d think!

Reply

I too use Cetaphil as face wash haha.

Pop-tarts remind me of childhood…specifically the Smores pop-tars. YUM.

Reply

I alternate between Cetaphil and a store brand of a grapefruit face scrub. I’m not sure it’s the best system, but until I have something better I’m sticking to it!

Reply

I remember jellies with fondness.

Childhood favorites were the Babysitters Club and Goosebumps books, lunchables, disc mans and American Girl Dolls.

Reply

Cetaphil didn’t work for me either! I just started using a bar of African black soap from Whole Foods and my skin improved immediately.

Reply

Ives apricot invigorating scrub works wonders! Make sure you get the one that’s not for sensitive skin! It’s like rubbing fine sand on your face and I always feel so much fresher after using it, especially around my hairline after sweating on a run.

Those jellies are absolutely perfect. Little feet and jellies are the cutest.

Reply

you should try lush products! their stuff may seem a little hippie dippy but it works so so good, my face is in such good condition now. i use dark angels cleanser, enzymion moisturizer, and the grease lightning spot treatment as i am a bit breakout prone. give the website a look! lushusa.com

Love the jellies, I lived in mine as a kid.
I use philosophy’s purity made simple along with my clarisonic brush. Best thing you will ever so for your face is own a clarisonic and purity made simple washes all makeup away and melts mascara off like a dream. I started using it when I turned 27 and I’m about to turn 37 everytime I try to switch to something else they just don’t compare.

Reply

Agreed! I use the same combination with the clarisonic and purity made simple and my skin feels amazing now!

Reply

I actual dont’ know if I had jellies… I’m sure I did. But I remember having saddle shoes! pink, of course.

Reply

I switched from Cetaphil to Cerave and it is by far superior! I loved wearing my gold jellies to the pool and trading pogs on the neighborhood trampoline. Good memories!

Reply

I just purchased a new skin care line – Boots No 7 from http://us.boots.com/
It was recommended to me. I haven’t had it long enough to decide for myself but it supposedly has great customer reviews.

Reply

Arbonne has a new line called “calm” that is 80% food grade ingredients and is amazing!

Reply

Love Brooke’s jellies! Need to get some of those for my 1 y/o. I loved Pound Puppies! But those were after I graduated from Cabbage Patch Kids and Care Bears. Was definitely part of the TGIF generation too – Full House on Friday nights!

Reply

I tried that Cetaphil facewash a few times – is that the stuff that just feels like rubbing lotion on your skin? It’s so weird.

My skin doesn’t really care what cleanser I use as long as I use apricot scrub right beforehand and moisturize morning and night. At night I use this really pricey serum but it is AMAZING :http://www.peterthomasroth.com/p-54-glycolic-acid-10-hydrating-gel.aspx

Reply

I use Neutrogena Naturals purifying facial cleanser. I have used it for nearly two years now, and I love it. Capris remind me of childhood and for the longest time I wouldn’t wear them because I thought they were too childish or something, but now I want a pair again.

Reply

I have really sensitive skin, and Simple moisturizing face wash is the best. Super gentle but super effective.

Reply

AGREED! This one is my favorite!

Reply

I use the Clinique facial bar soap ( from their 3 step system, but I no longer use the other steps). It is gentle and works! Worth the money.

Reply

I use neutrogena. A friend of mines sister is a dermatologist and she highly recommends it. I have used it for years and have never had trouble with it.
I had jellies to as a kid :). Loved Care Bears and rainbow brite!

Reply

Since getting pregnant I’ve been using the Simple (http://www.simpleskincare.com/) face care line and it’s awesome!! My skin looks so much better, hardly a breakout, and suprisingly less oily than it was before!

For deals I just got some Reebok tanks for $11 at Dick’s Sporting Goods yesterday to wear in this 90 degree weather over here in MD, and they’re nice and stretchy to fit over my preg belly!

And I totally had Jelly sandals as a kid, I had a few pairs and wore them for at least three years, all the time, with every outfit. I too had polly pockets as well and whe I walk by the toys in Target for example, I always long for a skip it, I loved mine!!

Reply

I use Biore blemish fighting ice cleanser. The blemish fighting aspect is pretty mild so it doesn’t dry out your face. I’ve never had a blemish problem but I like the cool feeling that part of the cleanser brings. I love Biore products.

Reply

My dermatologist lets me use only CeraVe products on my face. I have loved them so much I even started using the body lotion. Great prices too!

Reply

Face wash: I tried a million different kinds and the one that works the best for me is Dove bar soap! It’s the cheapest thing in the world and it leaves my skin feeling great!

Best deal lately: my favourite coffee beans on sale!

Childhood: the first thing that comes to mind is a Rainbow Brite doll, Ghostbusters, and fruit roll-ups.

Reply

I use Aveeno fash wash and moisturizer and really like them. :) But I wouldn’t say they’re the ‘best in the country’ haha!

Reply

I can’t use Cetaphil, it’s too drying on my face. I use CeraVe, it’s much more moistuizing and I like it much better.

Reply

I use that same Cetaphil facewash. However, I also use a Burt’s Bees exfoliating scrub. I kind of alternate them depending on how my face is feeling!

Reply

Is it bad that I would seriously consider wearing those jellies, just for the sparkles? Cannot beat having sparkly feet.

And I usually use Aveeno products on my face…they seem to work well!

Reply

Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple is amazing!!! It can be a little pricey but the bottle will last you forever!

Reply

I starting using Velocity from Mary Kay about 5 months ago and my skin has never been happier, even after a very cranky 6 months due to hormone changes. It is cheap too, $20 and that lasts a few months. The bets part? It does not dry out your skin like lots do!
Maternity shorts at Old Navy for $30 then 30% off compared to the $55 ones at the maternity store, geesh…
My Barbie convertible, Gushers, and my neon New Kids on the Block shirt.

Reply

I use Clinique’s acne solutions facial cleanser. It’s a lot more affordable to use the bar soap instead of the foaming soap…$14.50 for a bar that lasts 6-9 months!

Reply

I had jelly sandals when I was a kid but I hated them because they always hurt my feet. My sister and I would dread having to wear them. The last good deal I got was a pair of pants from The Gap for $12 (original price $60). Can’t beat that ;)

Things that remind me of childhood are Pokemon, Tamigachi, pound puppies, and light up sandals, for sure.

Reply

Clean & Clear Essentials facial wash. Doesn’t hurt my eyes if it gets in it!

Reply

For the past 15 or so years I have only used Principle Secrets face care products. Love the face wash, scrub, face lotion and they have so many more products to try too. Here is the link ( http://www.qvc.com/Principal-Secret-Advanced-90-Day-Skin-Care-System-Beauty.product.A79036.html?sc=A79036-Targeted&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION-_-4-_-A79036&catentryImage=http://images-p.qvc.com/is/image/a/36/a79036.001?$uslarge$ )

It might seem like a lot but this last me approximately 3.5 to 4 months long. I totally recommend this product :)

Reply

Thoe jellies are just the cutest thing ever on her little feet!!! Also I’m glad you asked that question because I’m looking for a new one too!

Toy – Lincoln logs, legos, and polly pockets. I had barbies once but my brothers buried them in the playground :/. Food – Fruit Stripe Gum. Clothing – Osh Kosh purple overalls!!

Reply

Face wash: I do a combo… I do a pump of the store brand version of the clean and clear morning burst AND a pump of the store brand version of st ives apricot scrub. Yum yum yum. And boondogle makes me think of child hood!

Reply

I love Brooke’s Jellies! Barbies and hula hoops remind me of my childhood!

Reply

Love those jellies. We don’t put any shoes on our son (he’s almost 9 months). He had one pair of shoes that he outgrew and then we never bought him another pair. He’s not walking yet but even when he starts I read that it’s best if they walk without shoes first to build feet muscles. I’m sure he’ll need shoes one day though!

A toy that reminds me of childhood is Nancy Drew and Babysitters Club books. A food is Ramen noodles or Campbell’s Split Pea and Ham soup. And a clothing item is Gitano clothes.

Also, I use Burt’s Bees Radiance Facial Cleanser. I LOVE how it smells. I am also particular about chemicals and parabens and other junk that gets absorbed into my skin and is bad for me and baby – so I try and stick to chemical-free body products.

Reply

Love the jelly shoes! I kind of want a pair myself!
I use the Cetaphil and I like it. I also like Neutrogena.

Reply

I remember jelly sandals…. And Pogs, and beanie babies, and Tamagotchis… Oh the good old days. I actually came across some Dunkaroos in the store the other day and was seriously tempted to pick some up.

As for facial cleanser, I’ve been using Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple for -years- now and I swear by it. Gets all the nasty stuff off without being too harsh.

Reply

I never had jelly sandals, but I think they’re the cutest things ever. I love the sparkles on Brooke’s! I don’t see many comments on your froyo, and I’m sorely disappointed because it’s gigantic and it looks delicious. And Twix toppings is just one huge bonus. Twix are by far one of my favorite candies ever. Or foods.

When I really feel like splurging, I get this:
http://www.lespausa.com/Cleansing-Gel-p/fav030.htm
It works absolute wonders. But it’s super expensive…on a day-to-day basis, I’ll use Noxzema’s face wash.

Reply

Hmm, lets see! :)

1) Favorite face kit: Vitamin E kit from The Body Shop. It works wonders! My mom told me how great my skin looked the other day. (I don’t have skin problems, but it makes you glow!)

2) Peet’s coffee $2 off coupon off any coconut drink. But, I get coconut in my iced coffee, so it was on a $1!

3) I LOVED dolls. Collected them. And, I had one that was made to look like me :)

Reply

I really love Murad… I had really bad break outs, and so far that’s the only thing I’ve been able to use long term. It’s a little expensive, but, you only need a new bottle every 3 months or so. (I get it from Sephora, not the Murad website)

Definitely “skip-it” and hungry hungry hippos remind me of my childhood.

Reply

Pogs! You must be the same age as my grandson, LOL! He was so obsessed with those, I had to buy a set (complete with a sparkly slammer) so I could play with him. I think I still have mine somewhere….
Love Brooke’s pictures, of course.
The last great deal I got was a maternity dress from Zulily for my granddaughter that looks really amazing for only $30.00.
You have some great skin care ideas here – mine won’t help as my skin is MUCH older, ha!
BTW, I finished my first half marathon Sunday (not first, not last, and ran all but 10 minutes) and signed up for another!

Reply

Right now I use Origins skincare everything. Not the cheapest, but I’m huge into anti-aging stuff. My original favorite was Kinerase but they don’t make that anymore – they branched over to a Walgreen’s/CVS line called Dr. Lewinn’s something-rather which was pretty good too & much cheaper. My childhood reminders are Western Barbie with her horse Dallas, Cabbage Patch Kids and the game Simon.

Reply

Oh – and Strawberry Shortcake Dolls. I loved mine so much!!!

Reply

I use Neutrogena’s oil free cleanser in a pink bottle…it has grapefruit extract in it and is the best smelling facewash ever. I’ve used it for 4 years and love it!

Reply

I had jelly sandals as a kid and I am WAY older than you! It’s nice to know they held up. I LOVED the smurfs when I was little. I wanted to be Smurfette.

Last good deal: I went to Carter’s yesterday and bought 3 sets of PJs, a pair of shorts with flamingos on them, a shirt with a flamingo, and a sun hat for $50. I also got $10 to use in the store starting today. In about a year my daughter will be out of Carter’s brand and it will break my heart!

Reply

Brooke’s new jellies are awesome! I loved my jelly shoes as a kid and my dad always hated them. I remember he used to tease me that he was going to melt them in the oven when I left them lying around the house (where they didn’t belong).

I can’t use Cetaphil for face wash either. It’s horrible on my skin. Right now I love a Giovanni D:Tox face wash I bought at Marshalls and TJ Maxx (I kind of stocked up on it). My skin has been great ever since I started using it. But my old standard that I can always count on is the Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser. It’s creamy so I don’t feel like it’s stripping my skin but it also feels super clean after using it. And it doesn’t cause me to break out. I’ve also had good results from the new Simple brand of cleansers.

Reply

Is it bad that I still rock jelly flip flops? You’re never too old for Jelly’s. I’m seriously jealous of all of your meals, SOME DAY I will be a good cook, I just know it. Also, I use OXY face wash. It works super well, but it is really strong, takes some getting used to if you have a sensitive face. But for oily faces like mine, it works like a charm.

Reply

As someone who has battled acne since my days as an 8th grader (seriously tried it all and the only thing that actually cleared it up was *gulp* Accutane). My dermo had me use Dove bar soap because it was so mild and non-drying. Through the years, I’ve tried just about every product out there, but have always come back to Dove. As a moisturizer, I use various Clinique product, and while pricey, they work and last a long time.

Hmm. Last good deal was probably a couple boyfriend fit cashmere sweaters from the Limited. The original price was something crazy like $98, but I scored them for $15 each and wear them all the time!

Toys from childhood: popples, glow worms, and PJ Sparkles. Clothing item – definitely jellies or canvas slip on shoes from Target. Food items – Kool-Aid and Jell-O pudding pops!

Reply

It is definitely an investment but the Clarisonic face brush will CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I use it with that Cetaphil facewash actually, and it has totally changed my skin.

Reply

AGREE!! Clarisonic CHANGED MY LIFE. I tried EVERYTHING at the drugstore and products from the dermatologist but within a few days of trying the Clarisonic, I saw incredible results. I love the way it takes off your makeup and leaves your skin feeling super clean and my pores are much smaller. I don’t even feel like I have to wear makeup anymore. It usually comes with a cleanser so I’ve been using it with the Clarisonic Acne Cleanser and I really really really like it. It is waterproof, so you can use it in the shower too. The guy at Sephora said it is like exercise for your skin :)

Reply

Absolutely, 100% agree. I’m obsessed with my Clarisonic!

Reply

Agree! The Clarisonic has probably been one of the best purchases I have made in the past year. Well worth the investment! Works great when you use it with the Cetaphyl for all skin types.

Reply

I used to have really bad skin and then I went on accutane and it cleared up for good..but it’s definitely not perfect and it’s always been REALLY OILY. So I use the orange Neutrogena salicylic acid wash… it can be drying, but for me it works because I just have so much oil.

I also got amazing mattefying products from Sephora this weekend if you struggle with that shiny feeling. It’s a mattefying product made by Philosophy…the stuff is amazing.

If nothing works, definitely call your dermatologist because sometimes only the prescription gels/creams do the trick!

Reply

Clean and Clear essentials foaming facial cleanser is the best!
It comes in a yellow bottle and it doesn’t have fragrance or acne wash or anything in it so it is especially awesome to use around your eyes when you want to get any leftover eye makeup off.

Reply

cinnamon toast crunch and pogs. those were basically the essence of my childhood.

Reply

I use Cetaphil for years now too! But I know what you mean coz I’ve realized lately that it isn’t working well. My friend recommended LaMer to me. I use the foam cleanser with the Clarisonic! It works wonders!!! :) My face felt cleaner and fresher. :)

Reply

Love Jellies and Pogs, also the skip it was pretty awesome. You should try to find one for Brooke when she’s older.

I just switched face wash to a product from Whole Foods called Mychelle it’s a little expensive but so far I’m seeing better results with it.

Reply

LOVE jellies but they cause blisters. POGS, Beanie Babies, skipit, Nano pets, I could go on and on and on.

Reply

Jelly shoes were the bomb, and also the skippit? I think that’s what it was called, you strap it on your leg and swing it around and jump over it.. seems lame now but I loved it!
I use the Canadian version of cetaphil – and love it.. sorry not much help there!

Reply

I recently purchased a pair of new grown up jellies with sparkles for myself- this is totally normal adult behavior, no?

As for face wash, I was also using cetaphil and didn’t feel like it was working either so I switched to Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser and have been pleased. I also started using a vitamin C serum from Khiels and my mom told me my skin is glowing, so I guess it’s all working! http://www.neutrogena.com/product/ultra+gentle+daily+cleanser.do?sortby=ourPicks&page=2

Reply

I use the cetaphil, but only in the shower in the morning to get the sweat off, and st. Ives (or off brand) apricot scrub at night to scrub all the gunk out! It’s my favorite! Love the jellies! I want some for my little girl!

Reply

Brooke’s little feet in those jelly sandals! Please! I die!

And now I am craving dunkaroo’s again. My friend texted me a while back saying her Walmart started to carry them again! Whaaaat? But I have not seen them at mine. I seriously loved those. Miniature cans of Shasta, handisnacks and lunchables remind me of being a kid too (obviously my mom packed me really healthy lunches). Also, slap bracelets (love that they made a comeback for a while).

I have a few friends that love Cera Ve. As soon as my face wash runs out, I shall be buying it. Yep. Gotta let my $3 clean and clear run out. Can’t waste that. lol. I am special.

Reply

I used Cetaphil for years and finally switched to Philosophy’s Purity Cleanser. I like it a lot better.

Reply

Generic oil of olay, been debating on changing it. I am 36 and started getting pimples again this year. How unfair is that???? Of course I also just started wearing makeup on a regular basis.

Best deals: It would have to be kids clothes. I love consignment sales and yard sales for kids clothes. A month ago I got 10 items for my girls for a total of a $1, some did not look like they were ever worn. The good thing is that when they outgrow them I will consign them at a sale likely for $2 each. So I make a profit!! Oh and my daughter’s school was going to throw away a play kitchen and we got it free. I have to put some love into it but really they have been having a good time, it is one of the higher end wooden ones.

I remember jellies. Recently what has reminded me of my childhood is the pool. I was a competitive swimmer for 15 years, summer and winter. I spent the summer at our pool and we recently joined a pool. We went there this weekend and it was bizarre for me. I did not have a whole lot of time to contemplate things though as my 2 year old is determined to take a running leap into the pool every chance she gets. I may not like the pool in a few weeks…

I have a great website for music. Go to jogfm.com and you put your pace in and it will give you all the songs that match your pace.

I am loyal to Say Yes to Carrots! I love their one that has bamboo in it. Seriously, the best product ever!

Reply

I use Cetaphil (the one for oily skin) its the only thing that does not give me a bright red rash…. Tried a lot of different washes before I found one that worked.

Reply

Aveno the foaming kind all the way!

Reply

I’m with Brooke, jellies really hurt my feet. Try Purity made simple by Philosophy-gentle but strong!

Reply

I totally rocked jellies all the time as a kid and I was really into Barbies, My Little Pony, and Popples.

I use The Tea Tree Oil line from the Body Shop and I’ve loved it, but I’m considering a change in the near future. This post is giving me a lot of ideas!

Reply

1. I use a random Biore facewash. It’s nothing special but does the trick!

2. New running shoes! I’m trying out the Innov-8 Bare-X Lite 150 and got them for ~$65.00 with shipping included. Seemed to be a deal to me because they’re listed at ~$100 at other locations.

3. Pizza bagel bites and jelly shoes! I’m so glad you found another pair of jelly shoes for your little girl – those were so cool when I was a kid :)

Reply

I use cetaphil and cerave. But I find the cerave to be a little stronger so I only use that at night when I have makeup on my face.

Reply

Those are some seriously cute jelly sandals. I remember loving them when I was little and hating them when I got older because they make your feet so sweaty. Maybe kids don’t notice or their feet don’t sweat.

I use Cetaphil, too, so I can’t offer any advice. That’s what my dermatologist told me to use in high school, so I stuck with it.

Reply

I love purity from Philosophy :) I’m pretty dry and a little sensitive.

Reply

I use the cetaphil face wash and then use diluted organic apple cider vinegar as a toner, it has worked wonders for my acne.

Reply

My sister is six years older than me and she had an awesome pair of pink jelly shoes. I wanted them so badly. When I was old enough and big enough to fit into them, jelly shoes had sadly gone out of style. The same with the beautiful pair of legwarmers she owned. I’m only slightly bitter about the whole deal.

Reply

I use Aveeno. I have sensitive skin, so I have to be careful what I use, and Aveeno is one of the only brands that doesn’t dry my skin out or make me breakout.

Reply

Oh Jellies! I loved my jellies and my jelly bracelets too… so many good memories. And my last good deal? A necklace AND earrings for $3 and change after using a coupon, a discount and some Kohls cash. I was pretty proud of that :)

Reply

Are you having specific issues with your skin? I used to use cetaphil exclusively and I found it really good for a long time and then all of a sudden felt like it wasn’t working.

Now I use the generic brand of Clean and Clear morning burst in the morning and just a plain unscented soap for the night. The biggest difference I’ve noticed in my skin is using Coconut Oil as a moisturiser. My skin is softer, brighter, clearer and just feels so much nicer. It might just be a miracle cream.

POLLY POCKETS!!! Loved them!

Reply

I had jellies, awesome purple ones that I refused to take off. And I had pogs!! It was all about who had the coolest slammers :).

I use Aveeno, both the foaming kind and the positively radiant daily cleanser (I buy whatever’s available, for some reason the Target by me never has both). I go through the foaming kind pretty quickly, I always feel like I need three extra squirts since it’s foam.

I also just started trying Nutrogena’s Pore Refining Facial Scrub, I use it about 2-3x a week. So far it’s been working out well, it hasn’t irritated my skin or dried it out at all.

Finding a good facial cleanser can be so challenging!

Reply

Nothing keeps my face clear as well as “Clean & Clear continuous control acne cleanser.” It uses benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient instead of salicylic acid which seems to prevent blemishes much better. The bottle is purple, too! ;)

Reply

I use philosophy’s purity. I love having one step to take off my makeup and mascara. I also use Peter Thomas Roth in the morning and am obsessed. The bottle is pricey, about $30 but lasts forever. I also use trader joes coconut oil for my moisturizer.

Reply

I use Purity by Philosophy as a face wash, it’s amazing!

Reply

I really like Neutrogena’s pink grapefruit wash — it was the only thing that kept my skin clear during pregnancy (ahem 4 years ago…) and I’ve used it ever since.

Reply

BEST face wash:
Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Thoroughly Clean Face Wash (normal)
I got it at Whole Foods (“whole paycheck,” LOL) but it looks like you can find it cheaper online.
Really cuts through the oil & leaves my skin just clean, not dried out. Almost *never* get any pimples, and it clears them up in a day if I do.

Reply

Oh childhood. Hoola hoops, Stawberry Shortcake dolls, piles of books, and the smell of pool water.

I get the giant Neutrogena Ultra Gental face wash. It’s really good, does the job, isn’t spendy. I am willing to spend more on things I don’t wash down the drain. :)

Reply

I have super sensitive skin and tried so many face washes until I finally found Clinic. Its so awesome and really helps my complexion

Reply

I never had jellies. I feel like I’ve been cheated out of childhood.

My dermatologist (yes I’m 30 years old and still break out like I’m 15) recommends neutrogina in the blue bottle, purpose or eucerin for gentle face washes.

Hey Janae… I am your lovely Mum’s first cousin (John Kent’s oldest daughter) and I love following your blog. I try to read it each time. your daughter is adorable! I have fond memories or growing up with your Mom and your aunts and uncle. Laura and I have fantasies of hanging out but proximity gets in the way. I saw Greg and Kristin at Uncle Dave’s funeral and I love them to pieces … Kristin is an angel on earth and I cherished time with her :). … Ok, back to your question: Noxzema since the mid 1970’s and my family doesn’t think that I look 50! Check out my pics .. Haha, Oh well enough about me ;). Happy blogging – your Cousin Berta

I use a brand called MyChelle. Their products are completely natural and don’t use chemicals. They use the enzymes of fruits and vegetables to help give nutrients to your skin. I am obsessed with their products and they are the only products that clear up my skin fast. I use the following:

Fruit Enzyme Scrub- http://www.mychelle.com/Fruit-Enzyme-Scrub?sc=7&category=4415

Fruit Enzyme Cleanser- http://www.mychelle.com/Fruit-Enzyme-Cleanser?sc=7&category=679

Fruit Enzyme Mist- http://www.mychelle.com/Fruit-Enzyme-Mist-2-1-oz?sc=7&category=4412

Pumpkin Renew Cream- http://www.mychelle.com/Pumpkin-Renew-Cream-1oz?sc=7&category=4411

Check them out! I think you would love them. It may seem a bit pricy but the product lasts me forever… 6 months to 1 year before I have to rebuy.

Uh is that Yummy Yogurt… best place EVER.

Exposed skincare is my new found love. I have skin like a 14 year old girl who rubs pizza grease all over her face and Exposed has really helped it out a lot.

Brooke’s sparkly jellies make me want a pair bad. So adorable!

Reply

OMG – I LOVE LOVE LOVE Brooke’s jelly sandals! I totally need to find some in my size!

I use Burt’s Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser. It smells amazing like Peppermint and Spice. It’s very gentle and keeps my combination skin balanced.

I got Vibram Sprints (walking shoes) on sale for $40 at a closeout sale. I’m obsessed with Vibrams! :)

Brussel Sprouts always remind me of childhood because I HATED them but now I LOVE them. They’re so good steamed with lemon and a little parmesian cheese. YUM!

Get ready for the longest comment ever.

First, I use Neutrogena Cleansing Face Wash. It’s a classic.
Second, I feel like we live opposite lives. I grew up in Morgan Hill, just south of San Jose, then moved to Utah for school. My husband has been attending BYU Law School, and I get insanely jealous when I read about all your adventures in the Bay Area. All my family live out there. We also have a little girl, but she’ll be TWO this July. Also, I’m a terrible runner. That’s the other opposite thing. I try, but I’m truly terrible.
Third, be careful with those jellies once Brooke starts walking. Ginny (my daughter) was finally able to wear hers and they cut her ankles really badly. Like big, scabby blisters. Just FYI. They’re adorable though.
Fourth, where did you get that yogurt? My favorite yogurt place in CA used to do yogurt like that, but they closed about 5 years ago. Maybe I’ll have to visit Willow Glen next time I’m in CA.

Cuuuutttee shoes!!

I use doTERRA’s face wash line–it’s amazing. Like cleared up my skin in days & I’ve never had a healthier skin/face!! Love that stuff. I also use their essential oils on my face–like lavender & lemon & their clear skin line. I swear by it all.

LOVE that fro yo bowl–looks amaze.

St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub works like a charm! and it’s pretty inexpensive too.

Reply

My dermatologist put me on the Vanicream, a normal bar soap cleanser that doesn’t interact with medicines or makeup. People use it for prescription compounding. I LOVE it!

Reply

I don’t even bother with shoes for Kate because she just pulls/kicks them off ASAP.

I swear by neutrogena oil free acne wash! A dermatologist recommended it when I used to get breakouts and I have used it ever since and it is amazing. My face rarely breaks out and if it does its a few zits.

Reply

I use Alba Acne face scrub. I also love the Say Yes to Brands, both are natural and have helped clear my skin up tremendously!

Rainbow Bright reminds me of childhood-love her!

I was very interested to read the comments on the skincare questions. I am also needing a new regiment. I like the idea of a line of products, but really will use whatever works.

No matter what you use, make sure you get something with exfoliating beads.. they will make your face feel so much cleaner! I personally use Neutrogena products, usually pore minimizing as I am prone to blackheads, but I occasionally find myself looking for something better, too! I bought something similar to a Clarisonic off of Hautelook and it was almost too hardon my skin. I also ALWAYS wash my face twice a day, you should never go to bed with previous days makeup on, it’s the worst for your skin!

This is the best: Takes off makeup is really gentle but cleans well. http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Naturals-Purifying-Facial-Cleanser/dp/B004D268RA/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1369841718&sr=8-14&keywords=neutrogena+face+wash

Skip itz! Dunkaroos for sure, bosco sticks (every day at school) I had every polly pocket.

Reply

I love the daily detox cleanser from Alba. It’s the best :) and its cheap at target!!!

Reply

Origins Checks and Balances….hands down, great stuff! It’s a lil more expensive than the “drugstore” brands, but it only takes a little and lasts. Is most definitely worth it! :)

Reply

I have super sensitive skin and have used Purpose face wash for as long as I can remember. It is gentle on your skin and I love it.

Reply

I still remember loving my little black slip on ballet flats with the bow at the end. Every girl at my school had them! I use Neutrogena face wash its in a peach and blue colored tube for normal skin. It’s fairly inexpensive too. I love it. It’s creamy. My skin is sensitive so I can’t stand anything with scrubbies in it. And it doesn’t bubble too much so that your nose is full of soap. lol

Reply

Holy conoli…that’s a mini…wow
For the last couple of years I have been using the “Meaningful Beauty” brand products…and I am still very happy with them

Reply

I use derma e Hyaluronic Hydrating Cleanser. I have CRAZY dry facial skin and this is the only thing that works. I also like CeraVe, because it really moisturizes my face, but I’ve noticed it doesn’t keep the acne away like derma e does. I buy it at Ulta.

Reply

i just use a regular bar of dove soap to wash my face. i swear by it!

Reply

I used to LOVE dunkaroos! Do they still make those? And, of course, I had about 10 pairs of jelly sandals. I was a young diva with my swimsuit and jellies at the pool.

I use Cetaphil all the time and it has never given me any bad acne/oil/etc. so unfortunately, I don’t have any advice on this front. :(

Reply

At one point in time I was on the search for Dunkaroos. Couldn’t find them. It was a sad disappointment!

Reply

I wash my face with coconut oil. I’ve been doing it for about 7 months and it’s been wonderful. No breakouts, nada. And so much cheaper than buying face wash. AND completely natural. AND it removes eye makeup.

Reply

The Cetaphil foam for acne prone skin is AMAZING. It doesn’t dry out your skin but it’s great for oily skin like mine.

Reply

I unfortunately have acne so I just started using the new Proactiv+ and I really love it, but in the past I’ve tried to use things for glowing skin. Aveeno products are really great and Neutrogena Naturals is nice too because I don’t necessarily want all the crazy chemicals involved with certain face washes!

Reply

Neutrogena grapefruit!!! And St. Ives Apricot scrub once in a while. Maybe I just like the smells. But I feel like my skin has been behaving quite nicely too!

Reply

I LOVE jelly sandals!!!!!!!! Skip-it was my favorite toy!

Reply

Try the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser that’s for all skin types – perhaps stripping your skin of oil is making it respond by making MORE oil….may take some time to see an improvement. Have you changed your lotion recently?

Anywho, I have an oily T-zone and dry cheek/chin area, and the combo that works for me is Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser for all skin types and Pond’s Dry Skin Cream! Been using these two for years, no issues.

Reply

My dermatologist recommended CeraVe. I LOVE it! I use the face wash & the moisturizer. I buy it at Walmart or CVS.

Reply

I use clinique -facial scrub to completely remove makeup and the mile soap bar to remove dirt/oil/etc. Works well for me, but kind of pricey.

Reply

I use extra refined coconut oil. I also have found that certain birth controls either help/harm my skin in a big way. So if you’re having problems I would look into that side of things.

Reply

If I need an exfoliator I have been using baking soda with water to make a paste. I swear by it. Best exfoliator ever. I used to use Mary Kay’s exfoliation system.

Reply

I’ve been using Vichy Purete Thermale Purifying Foaming Cleansing Cream for years! It’s a bit pricy but so worth it! I use it in the morning and in the evening and you just need a tiny little bit of it. I tried everything and this is the only thing that removes my foundation properly and leave my skin freash and clean!

I loved Polly Pockets- I’d bring them everywhere!

Reply

I use to use the Cetaphil cleanser but it stopped working. I now use Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple and absolutely love it!

Reply

I use Philosophy as well. Pricey but it takes so little that I feel like it will last beyond a year! Love it as well!

Reply

I swear by the St. Ives apricot scrub in the morning and just a makeup wipe before my evening run.

I was very excited last week when I bought a new Kate spade bag for work that was originally $385 and I hot it for $180!!

Most of my childhood revolved around swimming and American girl dolls

Reply

COCONUT OIL!!!! seriously! amazing!! And I found THIS recipe yesterday and I tried it and it’s wonderful… http://www.thelaurenelizabeth.com/2013/05/homemade-face-wash.html

All it is is 1/2 baking soda 1/2 coconut oil and VOILA!!!! it’s a deep cleanser, moisturizer and makeup remover in one! SCORE!!!

Reply

Ooooooh I must try this! Thanks!

Reply

Oh my goshness, the Creamery! We tried it on our date night Friday and I about died of Tin Roof Sunday goodness! I’ve been trying to convince L that we need to go back rightthisverysecond but I don’t think he’s convinced. Also, I use the basic Neutrogena, but its been leaving my face really dry, so I’m thinking of switching?

Reply

I absolutely love Purpose Gentle Cleansing face wash. It has no dyes or perfumes, but actually gets foamy! You can also get the store brand from Target and CVS that works just as well. My skin is super sensitive and I stopped breaking out when I started using this face wash. Anything else aggravates my skin.

Reply

I truely honestly do not specifically wash my face, and have found that I get less break outs this way. Obviously if there is dirt on it I will but otherwise a simple rinse with water works the best for me.

Good luck on your quest!

Seriously, you guys have left over pizza?! HOW do you do it?
We go out for pizza, we each get our own 10inch and eat the entire thing (with a shared small greek salad to start)
If we get take out pizza, we each eat half. I guess I am pizza pig, I cannot have leftovers it sooo good!

I dont wash my face daily (I dont wear makeup other than eyes). I do use St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub or Green Tea scrub every few weeks to get a good clean, and I love them both!

Reply

St. Ives Apricot Scrub! It smells really good and has those little beads so it feels good on your face :) whenever people shower at my place they always use it haha

Reply

I only wash my face when I’m showering and right now I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser. I’ve also used Origins Checks and Balances in the past. Definitely liked both of them.

Reply

I use Purity by Philosophy as a face wash, it’s really good and a little goes such a long way. $20 but so worth it because it will LAST! & it’s like a one stop shop :)

Mmmmh dunkaroos, sega genesis, nintendo, original gameboys, these hard cardies with gum in the middle with the color strip wrappers (don’t know the name if you can’t tell lol)… I can go on!

Best deal latey is getting shoes for 30% off. :)

Random, what kind of camera do you have? Amazing pictures.

St. Ives apricot scrub (or the generic version from Target – they’re usually right next to each other) is AMAZING! I used to use another brand but borrowed this face wash from my best friend when we were studying abroad together and couldn’t wait to get back to the US to buy a bottle for myself! It’s refreshing and exfoliating without drying your skin out!
