Yesterday was quite a big day. Brooke’s first pool day. I even shaved my legs for this big event.
My apartment has a pretty awesome pool and so the girls all came over for the first swim of the season. I have a feeling that 5 out of 7 days a week during the summer will be spent at this location. Brooke loved it and now I need to go buy all of the fun kid pool toys and at least a dozen more swimsuits for her because baby swimsuits are the cutest.
Brooke really likes pulling other people’s ears. Should I be worried?
After our swim we somehow managed to make it to Yogurtland. I forgot to take a picture until after I had already started eating and mixing it all together but I got red velvet and vanilla flavored froyo with cheesecake bites and white chocolate chips. I never used to mix my froyos together until just recently, I think it is just a phase I am going through.
I asked Billy yesterday what he felt like eating for dinner, either pasta or a salad and he answered a salad. I am very lucky that I am married to a salad lover. I made us thai peanut salads with grilled chicken, romaine, carrots, jicama, red cabbage, celery, cucumber, peanuts (star of the show) and TJ’s Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette (also the star of the show).
And then I stole candy from Billy after dinner when he went back to school. I gave him a bowl full of Riesens with a ‘reisens why I love him’ wrapped around each one for Vday and I think he has eaten 2 so far. It has been two months. How does one have candy (especially delicious candy like Riesens) for longer than 2 days without eating it all?
The winner of the Garmin Forerunner 10 giveaway:
I think we should all say that before and during our runs.
PS 4 more days until the Boston Marathon. Who wants to come over and watch it on TV with me and Brooke?

LOVE the pool pictures! Brooke is so precious! I love driving to the beach with the windows down, getting ice cream in the evening, and being tan! I grew up living at the beach! IT was amazing!!!
Kari @ Running Ricig
I think you’re safe so long as Brooke doesn’t start biting other people’s ears :).
Favorite things about summer:
Working from home OUTSIDE!

Vacation!
Sarah @PickyRunner
I wish I was going to be home to watch Boston. It’s something I’ve always wanted to see. I got froyo yesterday too and I mixed my flavors. I can’t say I liked it. I couldn’t taste the difference between the two and let me tell you, red velvet and cake batter should be enjoyed to the fullest.
The ear pulling, maybe it’s just a phase. Or she’s trying to tell secrets ;)
Britt @ BrittsRunningStyle
I know Memorial Day isn’t actually in the summer, but we always go camping – we tent out – that weekend and the boys always look forward to it.
My parents have a pool, so all the afternoons/weekends spent by the pool are awesome.
And fourth of July is always a fun party too!
Cindi B
That salad looks delicious! Now I know what salad dressing I need to buy the next time I get down to a Trader Joe’s.
My three faves:
– Eating meals outdoors!
– Swimming/going to the beach with the kids
– Celebrating my kids’ birthdays, which are all in June and July
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats
I WISH I could come over and watch the marathon with you! My friend Lindsay (Running the Windy City) is running it after having to defer last year and I’m SO EXCITED for her!!! And now I want some Yogurtland…
Wendy @ New Moms Talk
I’ve never been the biggest fan of Summer. It always equaled a weird vortex of no school, but last year that changed.
Summer is starting to be seen as a time of beautiful drives throughout the USA, camping, and volunteering at great races.
Yeah, that’s a pretty amazing change since I married my good man!
Logan @ Mountains and Miles
camping and hiking! not bundling up in a bajillion layers for my bike ride to work! and so much daylight!
carolyn
I’d love to watch Boston w/ you!
Fav summer things… long vacations to see fam in UT, plenty of pool time while we are there, wearing skirts and dresses every day (they feel so much cooler than shorts).

So great you have a nice pool to relax at every day- Brooke will be a little fish! Baby swimsuits are the best. I usually wish the same styles/colours in adult, too!
My favourite things about summer: cycling outside, running in shorts, camping, and hiking!
Tara Hanna
My birthday is July 4th, so thats an obvious fun day right there. In the summer, I spend alot of time horseback…Im learning how to run barrels, which Im terrible at right now, but learning is so much fun. If it gets me outside and sweaty with my horse, I dont really care what I do :) And running….I back off my training for most of the summer since I have later fall races, so I can just enter some smaller, local stuff and just chill…keep my legs loose :)
Julie @ Sweetly Balanced
Awe!! Looks like Brooke loved her first pool trip!!! My fav things about summer are: the beach, warmth, BBQs!
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes
The babies look so sweet in their swimsuits! My top things for summer are: the pool, the beach, family walks at night, and tanning :-). You’re so lucky Billy is a salad lover! I’ll be over soon to watch the Boston Marathon with you and plan our race strategy for next year!!
Jen @ Jens Best Life
I love summer pool time! Watermelon is my favorite summer snack. I once ate an entire watermelon while hanging out by the pool and ended up looking pregnant in my bikini. Oops.
Also, 4th of July is the BEST holiday because it’s so relaxed and is all about fun picnic food and fireworks!!
Beth @ Running with the Sunrise
I didn’t know TJs had a spicy peanut vinaigrette. Definitely putting that one on my shopping list for my next TJs trip. Your salad looks like it was totally delish. My favorite things about summer: 1) Getting to see all of the pretty flowers in bloom on my runs, 2) Grilling out/getting to hang out outdoors/dining al fresco, 3) not having to put a coat on and bundle up when I take my dog outside. Also, lightning bugs and all of the awesome seasonal produce.
Ashley @ OurPersonalRecords
My favorite part of summer is the sun. We have really long, gloomy winters/springs in western NY, so just seeing the sun feels so good! I also LOVE sitting outside on a warm summer night for dinner!
Emily
Tell me your top THREE (or more if you want) favorite things about summer:
1. Running the trails mid-day. It’s hot, dry, sometimes muggy (I’m near Chicago), but I try to go when no one is out and it just feels like a greater accomplishment. ‘Oh, you had to walk all the way down two blocks in this heat…well I ran 12 miles in 95 heat and loved every second of it.’ I love the feeling of accomplishment that comes with doing something most others would not do (running in insane heat).
2. Sitting on the porch with friends having cocktails.
3. Eating outdoors at restaurants, there’s just something about eating outside in the summer that makes it more enjoyable (+ my dog can come too).
4. Annual trip to Colorado to see the family and my cousin, who’s really more like my sister.
Pam
love that dressing from TJ’s. :) the salad you made for Billy looks great!
love Riesen’s!! my grandmother used to always carry them in her purse. Riesen’s & Werther’s are so good. my other 1/2 is the same way with candy. he’ll keep it forever & have to throw it away because it gets old. I know the “candy police” should issue a citation! :)
Brooke is growing so beautifully! Good job mommy & daddy!!! :) xo love ya my friend

I scrolled through pretty fast, but am I the only that’s going to say I don’t care for summer? I’m very fair so I burn very easily, I don’t do well in the heat. I guess I’m a typical southern lady and get the vapors-haha. Honestly I’ll get sunburned driving to work with the window down and my arm rest outside a bit-it’s ridiculous! Brooke looks so adorable in her little swimsuit. I’m so glad she liked it! Ya’ll are going to have so much fun this summer! Your peanut salad looks amazing-And what a beautiful presentation! I love summer too and can’t wait for warmer weather. I love in michigan and it’s been raining/snowing for 3 days!!! Yuck.
No worried with Brooke pulling other people’s ears. When I was young I didn’t have a blanket or pacifier I was attached to…I played with eople’s ears (like rubbed them). Weird, I know but I loved it! It was the only way I could fall asleep if I was sick as I got older. I quit when I was 7 because my cousins teased me relentlessly and started back up to my embarrassment when I was 17. My fiancé (been together for 8 years, geesh, and engaged for 2 months!) has what I call “made for me earlobes” that I find myself grabbing every once in a while…I’m not super weird and run his ears all the time or anything but just in passing when we’re in a big group of people or something…just a quick tug to let him know I know he’s there when I walk by. Hmmm…too much sharing.
Basically don’t worry about it, I turned out pretty decent ;)
Mae
I once had the brilliant idea of keeping a jar of Riesens at my desk at work to make more friends, and I ended up eating them all in 2 days. I don’t know how Billy made it so long. My husband is the same as Billy, and usually I have to set a deadline for him because I can only control myself up to a certain point, and then if there’s chocolate in the house, I must eat it!
