Heart rates and the largest donut.

You know how I have been watching hours of HGTV a day?  I am taking the valuable lessons that I am learning from television to decorate Brooke’s room.   First project… painting some furniture.  My aunt gave me this dresser and a friend gave me the book shelf so we are painting them white and then adding some new handles on the dresser.   I am kind of proud of myself.

Bangs friend and her husband brought over curry for dinner last night because the boys wanted to watch a basketball game.  I lucked out having a bff that is an incredible cook.

DSC 1481

Half-time during the game included dogs riding scooters.  I am not sure why I am telling you about this but I just thought it was really cool.  How would you even begin training them to do this?

Ever wanted a donut that is 9 x 13?  Here is the solution.  I have made THESE before but it had been way too long since the last time and so last night was the night to bring them back into my world.  It really does taste like one ginormous donut.

We were talking about resting heart rates for some reason last night and we found out the world record for the lowest resting heart rate is 27 beats per minute!

Resting heart rate is 45! Tonight we are going to an amazing restaurant for dinner (hey, it’s exciting!) with my in-laws. I AM MAKING THAT CAKE TODAY!!!

Reply

I have a really low resting heart rate but I know it isn’t that low. Also, I need to make that cake. I am saving it to show my roommate. I haven’t had a cool dessert in so long. Maybe it will be a “surprise!” for when my parents come this weekend. Yes, very good plan. All part of my taper…

Reply

My resting heart rate is about 48! 27 is insane!!! That donut cook looks amazing and I may need to make that ASAP. I am in a full on baking war with my BFs new roommate, I will not be out shined by a dude!!

Reply

It’s funny going to the doctor because they take my heart rate and then just look at me and go “are you a runner?” Mine is pretty slow but as long as my heart keeps beating I’m ok with its lag! Ha. Can you ship part of the massive donut to DC? I would like to eat it for breakfast… thanks.

Yay HGTV- inspired projects! I think the most exciting part of my week will be making that cake. I might be running some today, but probably only 3 miles… my first half marathon is Saturday ahh! I’m not sure if I have an opinion on curry but what Bangs made looks yummy so I’d try it!

Ok, this has nothing to do with the cat post (though it was pure aewsome). I was perusing Valentine’s Day Cards today and noticed a whole lot of them were disgustingly cute animals. But the messages were always sappy or funny ha ha. I wanted them to be like FU Penguin! YOU TOTALLY NEED TO COME OUT WITH A LINE OF GREETING CARDS!!! Think about it.

Can’t wait to see how Brooke’s room turns out, I’m sure it will be beautiful!
I have no idea what my resting heart rate is, but now I’m curious. The most exciting part of my week is going to be watching my son receive the Eucharist for the first time on Sunday. I’m supposed to run today but I have a pinched nerve in my hip so I may have to sit this one out :(

Reply

Wow, that is a looowww resting hr! Mine is good, but not that good! I love curry. And that donut cake looks dreamy.

Reply

The most exciting part of my week was yesterday – running my 10 miler :) Just doing a 3 mile recovery run today. Yay for curry! Love the pics as usual!!

Reply

We watch HGTV all the time and my husband is convinced that we can flip an entire house ourselves. Or not! I’m running a short and sweet run today!

Reply

Seeing Brooke with her dad watching sports together totally reminds me of me and my dad when I was little. Good times. :) I haven’t tested my resting heart rate in a while, but I’m always disappointed at how high it is. I think the lowest it’s ever gotten with lots of running (for me) is 66 bpm. Maybe that’s why I’m so slow. :)

Reply

I took my resting heart rate once but I forget what it is… actually I think I once blogged about it so maybe I’ll go back and check (one day :P). LOVE curry – as long as it’s not too spicy. Hmmm… the most exciting part of my week?? Umm going to the famous tulip garden near Amsterdam sometime I think! :)

Reply

Wow…. I thought my resting heart rate was good with 56, but 27…that’s amazing!!

Reply

Not totally sure of my precise resting heart rate but it’s somewhere between 55-60 and it always used to be 90-100 before I started running! My BP, always normal has gone even lower, too. It’s pretty amazon what running does for your heart but 27 is crazy.

That cake looks delicious and I need to see if I have the ingredients ASAP. Your food always looks fantastic, though :) The running store I train with is having a “Be strong for Boston” run this evening and I think 200+ people are signed up so it should be a pretty awesome night. I think a lot of running stores across the country are doing this event today/tonight.

My husband’s resting heart rate was 36 — too low. The day it was measured, the doctor called an ambulance and he went to the hospital for a pacemaker the same day. He’s certainly in good shape, but he’s no Meb! We’re so lucky it was caught when it was.

Reply

I just took my heart rate and it is 96 BUT i also just drank coffee….so i might have to try again later for a more accurate count.

I am running today for the first time in two weeks bc of injury and I have been itching to get out there and run. I’ll have to be careful not to go out to hard as I’m only doing three (or to go longer for that matter) but I’m so excited to get out there again!

Curry is definitely fun!

Reply

When I’m running, my resting heart rate gets pretty low. At one visit to the doctor, the nurse refused to write down the number because it was in the high 30’s. She made me do something to raise it up into the 40’s before she would accept it. I was a little put out. :)

I have ambition to do all those projects, but I’m paralyzed by the fear that I’ll invest a lot of time and money and end up with an epic fail. I just want the HGTV people to come do a show on my house and yard.

No running today, just spin and CX. PRd in my half marathon yesterday — by 4 minutes!!

Curry: YAY!

Reply

I leave for Nashville Wednesday even though I can’t run my half marathon we are going to make it a fun trip! Dang foot injuries!

Reply

That cake looks insanely delicious. I need that in my life.

I haven’t decided if today is a running day or crosstraining. The weather is glorious, so I’m thinking it might have to be a run!

Reply

Interesting thing about curry…there is no actual curry spice. It’s a combination of spices! I learned this when I was first learning to make red Thai curry, because I couldn’t find it at first and wanted to know if I could substitute other types of curry. The answer is no, because all curries are just mixtures of different spices. It’s like Chai. Chai just means tea; curry just means spice. We have a very large East Indian population in our town…

No run for me; it’s a rest day. Not sure from what since yesterday’s run really sucked, but whatevs.

My heart rate does get a bit slower, but I don’t know that it has ever gone under 60 bpm.

The most exciting part of my week is that my friend Melissa is coming back from vacation! Oh, and also, when the week will be over because it is a very scarily busy week at work/school, the kind where no real instruction will really be possible.

Reply

The most exciting part of my week is going to be Friday afternoon when my roommates and I head 2 hours north to our half marathon!!!! It’s at 7am Saturday so we got a hotel room! We’re all super excited!!!! :)

Reply

That cake looks AMAZING. Also, I think my resting heart rate around 60 or so, but I haven’t checked it after waking up in a while.

Reply

My resting heart rate is around 43-45. The first time I considered myself a runner was when the nurse that took my pulse asked if I was a runner. I paused a second and said ” YES, I am a runner!”. This is and was A big deal for me!

Only exciting plans this week are to train for a tri this summer. Lots of swimming, biking and running indoors until the weather gets nicer. We are in for 5 to 7″ of snow today!

Reply

I know my resting heart rate is lower end. Haven’t done it for a while so just took it sitting here at work and it was 54. I’m guessing truly resting would be lower because the stress of not wanting to be at work increases it some…..right? :)

I ran long Sat. and then 5 miles Sunday, so thinking it should be a rest or X-train, but the body feels really good, so who knows.

Reply

I am most looking forward to potentially getting off crutches this week! And going to a concert on Thursday night!! I am not a fan of curry, I can barely stomach the smell!

Reply

I am not sure what my resting heart rate, but I am guessing lower? I am now going to do when I wake up in the morning tomorrow! I am really excited for tonight because my husband is done with his first exam and we are running a run for Boston tonight!I am also running a nice and easy 5 or 6 mile run. Nay, Nay, Nay on the curry!!

Reply

Not every dog rides a scooter? mine does ;) ran 8 this morning! ZOOMA Annapolis in June!

Reply

My resting heart rate is between 42 and 45 bpm. I like when a doctor can tell I’m a runner just by my heart rate.

I hate all the delicious, but evil, sweets you post. I seriously need to make that Cinnabon cinnamon roll cake. It sounds amazing.

Reply

Yay for curry!!! I think my RHR is in the 50s to low 60s but I’m not positive. I’ll have to take it when I wake up tomorrow morning! :)

now I totally want to teach my dog to ride a scooter. or maybe a skateboard!

Reply

I am in the 40 s for heart rate and my blood pressure is 80/60. When I was pregnant it never went above 90/60, they said that is not common. I think it rose after my 2nd was born though!!
I did 12 miles yesterday so an easy workout today, 3 miles at an easy pace. I am 3 weeks out from my 1/2 marathon.
Curry, never had it as my husband keeps telling me I would hate it, should try it though!

Reply

When I was marathon training mine was 32. My Dr told me that the more active you are the lower it is! I had no clue or never really thought about it till then.
Friday, because I am having all my friends over!
I used to love curry but being pregnant has turned me off :(

I have no idea what my resting heart rate is, but now I’m curious!!

I love all the pics of Billy & Brooke, very sweet. She’s such a beautiful baby!

Reply

I love decorating!! Brooke’s drawers are going to be adorable!!

Reply

My heart rate is usually 42, but when I was in the hospital for surgery it would always dip to 39, set off the monitor, and make the nurses run to wake me up. The number of times I had to explain I was a runner…!

However, in my case a heart rate THAT low wasn’t healthy, turns out to be a symptom of hormonal imbalance (for me) along with just good conditioning. I perform best when my HR is a little higher.

Reply

I remember watching sports with my dad when I was little too :D For us, it was always hockey… My dad was kind of nutty about it so I guess he wanted to make sure I developed a love for it as well and started me early. It worked.

And holy.wow is that ever a low resting HR. I have no idea what mine is anymore, but I’m pretty sure it’s nowhere near that.

Reply

Do you know what your resting heart rate is? Have you noticed it getting lower with more training? Its been a while since I checked it but last time I went to doctor I think it was 50 and doc said wow you must workout! You have an athlete’s heart! I was proud! I’m doing an easy run of 4 miles today. I love curry!!!!! Its was fabulous when I had it when I was in Asia and Thailand.

Reply

I have no idea what my resting heart rate it! It would be interesting to see. I think the most exciting part of the upcoming week will be (hopefully!) that nothing terribly big happens. I had a bit of a rough one last week so I’m looking forward to this one being better.

My heart rate is 60 and I thought THAT was low! 27 is insane!

I am in love with curry. I once made a coconut green curry shrimp dish that was SO good!

Also, that cake…*drool.*

Going to the pool today for some easy laps. Need to stretch out after trail race on Saturday left me sore and achy, especially hips and knees. Totally worth it – flying downhill for 5.5 miles, wading through ice-cold, thigh-high water, and finishing with legs caked in mud was a blast!

Best part of week – my youngest turns 1 on Thursday! Never ceases to amaze me how quickly time flies with children.

Reply

No idea what my resting hr is, but I recall it being high. I’d be interested in seeing what it is now that I run so much.

It’s the week prior to our wedding- 12 days- so everything is super exciting! (and super stressful!)

Ran 5 “easy” this morning- ended up on a very very hilly route that was not so easy at all!

I love green and red curries!

Reply

I’ve never had curry before. Is it spicy? My nose doesn’t stop running if I eat anything spicy. I don’t know my resting heart rate, but whenever I go to the doctor, they say “Are you a runner?” when they can’t find a pulse. Oops :)

Reply

I love curry! Chicken curry is one of my favorite meals. My heart rate isn’t freakishly low, it’s in the normal range I think. I ran 8 slow slow miles this morning before work. My legs are still tired from my 22 mile run on Saturday. I was impressed I managed to do the run at all.

Reply

My resting heart rate is usually between 55-60. I had to wear a heart monitor for several days one time and they logged my sleeping heart rate in the 30’s.

I’m hoping I can squeeze a run in later today. But it’s hard. I need to coordinate it to be long enough after lunch that my belly isn’t mad while running but before my older son gets out of school (because double stroller running with a 7 and 3 year old is torture).

I am not a fan of curry. Your pic actually looks really good to me but I just can’t get into the flavor of curry.

Reply

I’m not a big fan of donuts, but I love curry! You went to a couple of good donuts places that you reviewed semi-recently. One was Psycho Donuts; what was the other one? We’re going to be in the Bay Area this summer, and wanted to try some hood junky food.

Reply

My resting heart rate is generally 50, but I’ve seen it as low as 45. It’s definitely gotten lower over the last few years, especially the last 6 months. I used to have to run an 11 minute mile to keep my HR in the 130 range but now I can run 9:00 miles and keep it in the 130’s

Reply

Um I have never seen dogs ride scooters! Haha random! And my resting heart rate is around 58-60. Nurses always ask if I’m a runner…

Reply

My resting heart rate is usually in the mid 40’s. No run today, it’s a rest day after 33 miles in the past 3 days!

My birthday is on Sunday, so I think that will probably be the best day of the week =) My sister and I are running 25 miles on Saturday to celebrate me turning 25!

I love curry. I’m a big fan of Green and Panang and the spicier the better!

Reply

I love curry!

Reply

My resting heart rate is super low, it’s so funny whenever I go to the doctor because they freak out that it’s as low as it is. I tell them I run and they still don’t believe me until I tell them how many marathons I’ve done, ha!

Reply

Just took it. 44 bpm! Hgtv is he best channel ever. It’s on 24/7 at my house. Oh my gosh I’m making that donut cake.

My heart rate is so low from running for so long! Every time I go to the hospital they have to turn my alarm thing off because it constantly beeps. It’s so annoying lol. That cinnabon cake looks delicious, please send me some in the hospital!

On Friday, I’m going to an awards banquet for work! I bet the foot is going to be DELISH!

Curry fun: yay or nay? I have actually NEVER tried Curry that I know of!

Love curry. Though it never tastes the same when I make it at home.

Most exciting part is going down to the Big Sur Marathon Expo weekend and going to be in the Run Hawaii booth :) That and actually doing the 9 miles on Sunday morning.

I’m going to make that donut cake for my running group for our next pancake run! Thank you!!! I just pinned it!

I don’t have time to read through all the comments so maybe somebody already mentioned this, but I just want to suggest spray paint for painting furniture. It works really well and in my opinion is way easier than using a brush. I’ve done both and got better results with spray paint. I’m sure Brooke’s room will be great!

Reply

I ran 6 today! Second week of marathon training! whohoo!
I cook with curry sometimes. Usually it turns out pretty good.
The best part of my week will probably be Friday. No work, and no kids! perfect weather for a run is on the schedule too.

The thing I’m most excited about for this week (well actually weekend) is having a nice relaxed one!
After a couple of busy busy weekends I’m so excited to hang out with my little family, do some hiking and running and beaching and reeeelllaaxing!!

On that note, is it Friday yet??

I thought my resting heart rate of 56 was good…but obviously not ;) I was just excited to be below average for an adult (http://www.livestrong.com/article/543942-does-your-resting-heart-rate-increase-with-exercise/), but it looks like I have more training to do ;) just kidding..my resting heart rate will never get that low, and that’s okay.

Reply

My resting heart rate is in the low to mid 40’s. My lowest recorded rate is 39 (once but a Holter monitor, once by normal heart strap). Just measured it here at the computer at 49.

Now I’m curious what my resting heart rate is. I haven’t figured it out in a long time, but I run a lot more than I used to, so I wonder how much / if it’s lower. I’ll have to get on that.
