Brooke is very opinionated and our new beautiful socks.

Brittany is pretty much the coolest. Some of the reasons she is the coolest: she is running the Boston marathon this year, she has the prettiest curly hair, she just finished PA school, she is the best walking partner/listener/talker and she has purple sunglasses. When I started blogging and went to my first blogging meet-up Billy thought it was weird, now he is used to the fact that I meet bffs through the internet all of the time.

IMG 0979

We met at Yogurtland and went on a walk for about an hour with Brooker in the stroller and then came back for the good stuff.

PRO Compression sent us some beautiful new compression socks. They are our favorite. My new socks looked especially good with the pair of green shorts I was wearing.

DSC 0712

We got really busy doing things like fighting over who gets the green socks and watching HGTV and then we realized it was 7 and we had no idea what to have for dinner. Billy had the brilliant idea to have clam chowder (from Costco) and grilled cheese sandwiches. It was perfect.

And in case you were thinking that this post is cooler than any previous HRG posts it is because Brooke helped me out big time. She is very opinionated about what pictures to use and she corrected at least 10 of my grammatical errors.

That photo of B&B is precious!

My hair is straight, no matter what I try to do to it.

Brooke is a smart lady. I love the short compression socks to run in (I prefer merino wool for long and/or rainy runs) and long compression socks after a hard run. I ran my first 10K in the rain cotton socks and finished with bloody heels as a result of blisters (I had no idea). So yes, I am very picky about socks!

Reply

love the “watermelon” socks!!

Reply

Super straight hair – always wanting it to be curly! I only wear socks specifically made for running – and lately my favorites are the procompression marathon socks. I have those green & pink ones and LOVE them!

Reply

LOL, I’m glad Billy accepts blogger meetups. Now if only I lived on the West Coast…when I first started having meetups, Tim was like…you met these people where…how…they want to read about things you just tell me in real life. Now I think he secretly enjoys them more than I do.

Those compression socks. I want them. I used to not be picky about socks and then I got probably the worlds worst blisters that turned my feet bright red…so my parents bought me about 20 pairs of really nice running socks for Christmas…when those go I’ll probably buy more LOL.

Have a great day!

Pin straight baby fine hair-but I use extensions to add fullness because my stylist is a genius.

So here’s my question about compression socks. How do your feet feel in them? Are they thin enough in your shoe? I like Nike running socks but really want to try compressions. Advice?

Reply

I am so picky about my running socks… They have to be just the right thickness. If I’m not wearing CEP or PRO compresison I’m usually in my black wicking socks… can’t remember the brand.

I wish I was still in school. So bad. But I’ll go back someday :)

Reply

I wear SmartWool socks – they’ve done wonders on my blister problems. Just got my first pair of Pro Compression socks last night…still feeling them out.

I graduated with my masters almost exactly a year ago!! Wow the time flies. I still don’t feel like a real adult yet.

Reply

Ridiculously straight.
How do you get yours so cute and wavy?? Like, if I could get mine to look like yours does in that first picture I would be beyond stoked!
I just found your blog a few weeks ago and I’m loving it :) really helping me push through my finals haha

Reply

Thanks Rachel!!!! Good luck with finals!!! I use an instyler and a gallon of hairspray ha!

Reply

My hair is straight as a pin too. It can hold a curl for about .5 seconds.

I am in school studying Business Management but I graduate in a month and a half!!! I’m not ready to leave!!!

Reply

Love Pro Compression! I wear them while running and then afterwards for recovery– they are the best!

Reply

I love love love Balega no show socks! I only wear them for official runs :)
My hair is straight as a pin too.
Love the picture of Billy and Brooke!

Reply

Fun color socks!
I’m the worst with my socks – they are from target and at least 5+ years old. Plain old Champion cotton socks. Maybe I should get some good ones to run in?
I do love compression socks – Wear them for recovery & to work. I have one pair of pro compression and the rest CEP. LOVE CEP compression…

Straight as a bone hair. Always wanted some nice, pretty curls.

Reply

I recently got some pro compression socks and just ordered another pair because I like them so much (and there was a discount code… haha). And Brooke looks like she’s going to be a website or magazine editor some day!

Reply

My hair is wavy. Which is nice because it can either be straightened or curled! I love the green and pink socks!!! I can see why you and billy would fight over them :-)

Reply

So THAT’S why all the pics if Brooke are always so cute – she handpicks the good ones! ;) Actually, I’m almost convinced that she has no bad angles to speak of. Cute-ness.

My hair is ridiculously straight, and even when I try to curl it, it fights tooth and nail to straighten out again. Iv’e basically given up on the dream that I’ll ever have gorgeous VS beach wavy locks. No product exists that will make my hair submit to that.

Reply

My hair is pretty curly but you’d never know since I straighten it every day. I wear any socks that are not cotton- I usually get a multi-pack from asics or brooks.
Brooke looks pretty cute with that baseball cap on!

Reply

I have super curly hair!

I used to swear by this one type of reebok sock, but am obsessed with ProComp’s Marathon socks right now!

Reply

Seriously, you are going to have the best family photo album ever.

I wear SmartWool PhD Running micro socks. I have my eyes on ProCompression Marathon socks in purple, pink, and black. I keep trying to win them, but I think I’m just going to have to buy a pair because my luck sucks!

My hair is naturally wavy, so it gets a little scary if I let it air dry without product in it.

Reply

I’m so jealous of your yogurtland trips! Brooke looks just like Billy (Bill) in the pic with his hat on- her expression is so adorable!

I wear thorlo socks to run in( can’t use anything else) I wear the thick ones.. I hate the thin ones.

I’m working on my undergrad right now (late- I’m 27) I’m studying communications but really want to change it to something involving kids. Not sure what though haha.

I have straight hair- I use the instyler to give it curls/waves.. it works great!

Have a good day!

Reply

I have curly/wavy hair. I love straight hair though!

You look awesome in your photo with your “internet BFF!”
And froyo sounds AMAZINGGGGG!!!! :)

Reply

I got my first pair of compression socks a couple of weeks ago! They. Are. Magic.

My hair is super, super straight. We have a love/hate relationship. Right now it’s more on the hate side because in order to get it to have any life it needs gel and my straightener. This requires me to wake up 10 minutes earlier in the morning – boo.

I am not in school but my husband is studying for the GMAT to apply for MBA programs! He’s hoping we can have matching diplomas some day :-)

Reply

I love pro-compression socks… I want to try their low trainers next.
My hair is straight as can be.
I have a 4-year degree, but have been thinking of going back to get my accounting degree. Sometimes 18-22 is too young to pick a career – and I’m kind of overmine at the moment.

Reply

Curly. But, like all girls with curls I would love straight hair! I love Pro Compression, but I’m not super keen on running in the marathon socks so I just ordered the low trainer’s (with Skinny Runner’s coupon code, of course).
PS- Brooke is as cute as ever and I’m glad she’s such a huge help.

Reply

I love that pic of Billy & Brooke! So adorable!

I am somewhat picky and only wear my Nike Dri-fit socks for running, but I have yet to try out “real” running socks. My hair is naturally crazy curly/kinky and out of control. I have fought it for years but am currently growing the curls back out :)

Reply

Straighter than straight hair here! When running longer distances I sport the Pro Compression sock…we have marathon and calf sleeves and I just ordered the pink and blue low trainers on sale today! :-) We also LOVE LOVE LOVE running in our Balega running socks…they are the BEST! It’s like running on a cloud! If you haven’t tried them…it’s a MUST!

Reply

I LOVE pro compression socks!!!! I just got my first pair a few weeks ago!!! Before that I was wearing features. I am super picky about my socks and about how they are on when I put my shoes on! I usually have to adjust them a few times and my husband thinks I am nuts :).
Neither of us are in school…I teach school to my 2 girls and before I was teaching them I was a preschool teacher.
Naturally staight as a pin…when I was younger my mom tried to get me a perm twice and they only lasted 2 days if that…(this was when perms were the in thing!)
I am so jealous of your frozen yogurt!!!!! I love it and we are severly lacking frozen yogurt establishments here in IA!

Reply

I have started running in compression socks sometimes. But usually I just run in high quality cotton socks (unless it’s wet, they are fine) and merino wool socks in the winter.

I have naturally curly hair. It’s great. I just wash it and put some mousse in it and I’m ready to go–I don’t even own a blow dryer!

Reply

Not in school anymore (THANKFULLY) but when I was, it was for business.
And my hair is straight as a pin also!

Reply

I am VERY picky about my socks. Thorlo Experia’s. ONLY.

Very straight hair. Unfortunately.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I got the watermelon socks! I haven’t worn them yet but I love them! I only wear either procompression or experia thorlo socks when i run. My hair is wavy/curly. I like to straighten it but I’ve been embracing the curl lately!

Reply

I wear pro compression socks!! Love them!

Reply

Brooke gets cuter and cuter every day.

Reply

Mine have to come up to below my ankles, otherwise I can’t run, the socks will annoy me lol. I’m in school!! I’m studying Cosmetology, will be done in two weeks :) Striaght hair.

Reply

I want those green socks! I’ve had my eyes on them for awhile. I already have their pink ones. Love! I wear them after runs. I run in my Adidas sport socks (from Costco!).

I have wavy hair that I love sometimes. Other times I want it straight.

Reply

I’m a PRO Compression girl too! Just got another pair last week!

And my hair is naturally WAVY – not straight, not curly…and I hate it!

Reply

I’m in school! Undergrad at UC Berkeley–Political Science and Media Studies. Don’t really know what I’m majoring in that…hmmm wish I could switch to nutrition :/

Reply

I love those bright socks! How fun.

Reply

oooooh, I like those watermelon socks! Very bright :) I like the socks, but I tend to wear the sleeves more. I love Thorlo socks! My hair is wavy and very very thick.

Reply

I love the socks, they remind me of Jolly Ranchers for some reason, haha!

Reply

It makes me giggle any time you post a picture where Brooke has that hat of Billy’s – she always looks so shocked to find it on her head! That girl sure does have one heck of a cute face.

I’ve got to tell you, Janae, I don’t know how you do it – those socks are so bright that even through the computer screen they kill my eyes! You’d most definitely be safe on the road on race day with those bad boys. :) And hey, I was thinking – maybe after Billy starts his internship we could get another day in the life? Liked the mini view at his law school last time…just an idea!

Reply

Thank you!!!! I seriously love that idea!!! Thank you! We will for sure do that!

Reply

:D can’t wait!

Reply

LOVE that photo of the socks with Brooke looking up. Oh her eyes!!

I need yogurtland….and let’s have some when you come to UT?!?! YES?! :)

Reply

I have naturally frizzy hair that I straighten every day. My hair curls when it’s wet but the. The curls fall as it dries and I end up looking like a lion.

Reply

I seriously think Brooke might be the cutest baby in the entire World! Adorable Janae!

I actually just wear short socks and either wear Nike or running socks from Rite Aid :)

I have straight hair but it has some waves in it when it dries naturally!

Reply

I love Pro Compression socks, I’ve pretty much lived in them through the winter running. What blogging program do you use on your Mac, I haven’t been able to find a good one?

Reply

I use Marsedit and I absolutely love it!

Reply

I was going to ask the same thing – thanks for sharing!!!

Reply

I think I need those socks next. My neon pink ones aren’t bright enough. My friends still think it’s kind of weird that I have so many “internet friends” but I think it’s becoming a lot more mainstream. Or maybe that’s just me trying to convince myself I’m normal…

Reply

LOVE the neon socks! I’m a fan of bright colors!! :)
I’m in school!! working towards an American Sign Language Interpreting Degree! Graduating in 37 days!! woohoo!! I think it comes out to something like 10 more classes and 8 more days of my interpreting practicum before I have to grow up and become a professional adult! ;)

Reply

I am a college sophomore studying cinema and media!

Reply

I have naturally wavy hair! No more school over here… whoo hoo!

Reply

ProCompression are definitely my favorites. I have four pairs and wear them all the time.

My hair is curly/wavy. It’s pretty awesome for just washing and running out the door.

Reply

I love ProCompression socks. They’re seriously my favorites. I’m starting to get pickier about what socks I wear running, which is bad for my bank account.
I have wavy hair. Not nice and straight, not beautifully curly. Wavy, frizziness that needs to be done every day.

Reply

I love compression socks, but I mostly run in the thorlo experia socks. Pro compression is doing a 40% off purple and blue compression socks for the month of April (but I’m sure you already know that)!

I’m a PhD student, currently writing my dissertation. :-)

Reply

Straight as a pin, as well. Compression socks are on the want list. Every time I see a deal on Active of Clymb I debate buying some but just have not made the leap.

Reply

With you on that….straight as a pin!

Reply

hahaha you mean he doesn’t wear short black shorts to school?! Whaaaat?? ;)

xo

Reply

I just graduated from school, but I wish I was still taking classes (I love learning new things)! I have wavy hair – it’s hard to get it to stay straight or super curly!

Reply

My hair is straight except for this one AWKWARD wave in the middle. It’s so annoying because I wouldn’t have to straighten it if it weren’t for the one wave. At least it blow dries straight, though!

I need to hire Brooke!

Reply

So last night I couldn’t sleep and was reading Des news online and there was an article about you! How did I not know about that? Just wanted to tell you I love your blog. I’m also so glad you posted the Cinnamon Roll cake receipe…I love Six Sisters!

Reply

Ahhhhh so cool!!!!!!

Reply

I have a few pairs of pro compression socks and I love them because I don’t blister when I wear them. No matter what, I seem to get blisters during long runs!

My hair is wavy if I let it air dry. I wish it would just dry straight because I hate blowing it dry!

Reply

I just got my first pair of Pro Compression socks and am SO excited to try them out!! :-)

My hair is naturally curly. A blessing and a curse!

Reply

Naturally, I hat straight hair. It’s kind of annoying to deal with sometimes though when the ends curl just a little bit in random directions. I got a digital perm, so now it’s wavy and much simpler when it comes to getting ready.
Love ProCompression socks!

Reply

I think I need to buy more pro compression socks.
I hope the husband is okay with that.

Naturally WAVY hair actually. Some days it looks like curls and sometimes its flat as a dud tire. Lame.

Reply

Love my Pro Compression marathon socks, and I just ordered some low trainers…can’t wait to try them out.

I’m not in school, but I’m homeschooling my kindergartener…does that count? We are studying butterflies right now :)

Reply

I love the Pro Compression sleeves. I have to wear Feetures for my feet. I wore a pair of Pro Compression on a long run during a relay race and lost many a toenail. The sleeves work perfectly though!
No more school for me please! Well, who knows.
My hair is perfectly straight. I can let it air dry, sleep on it and it looks like I straightened it. I use to hate it but after 40 some odd years I’ve come to terms with it and love it. I still wish I had thick curly hair. My daughter has perfect hair. How does that happen?

Reply

I’m a Balega sock girl for races. I wear Pro Compression on cold long runs or for recovery. I’m shocked not more people on here wear Balega. They are amazing!!

I have super curly hair, and I actually love it. I know most people want opposite of what they’ve got, but my hair keeps me on my toes every day, and it’s never boring. And I never straighten it :)

Reply

Love the socks! I’ve been wanting to try compression socks but haven’t found a good pair to try yet.

Reply

I love my Wright double layer blister free socks for running; but I also love my Pro Compression marathon socks that I order with a discount thanks to your link! Thank you!!!

I have naturally curly hair that I blow dry and then flat iron… off course I do. I’m sure that if I had straight hair, I’d want curly hair! :-)

Reply

I have no clue what my hair actually looks like. It’s always either wet from the shower, bed head from going to sleep with wet hair, or put in a pony tail for my next workout. My husband is a lucky guy!

Reply

I think she and I need to share sunglasses…I have 13 pairs of sunglasses and only one of them is black… the others are patterned, colored, and outrageous. But they fit my personality, so that’s good :D I’m in grad school studying environmental education. I’d be that lady you see at a zoo, nature center, state park, aquarium, etc. that tells you all about the animals and might let you touch some ;) what I’d really love to do though, and what I’m doing my research project on, is develop an environmental education program for special needs populations. Wish me luck!

My hair is straight, and CRAZY thick (like when it was long, you could probably hang me from the rafters), so I’m glad that it’s thick. Sometimes I get a little wavy over my ears/near the nape of my neck when it gets longer (it’s a pixie-ish cut now).

Reply

I love wearing asics socks that have arch support in them as well as puma. I own some pro compression calf sleeves and love those too!

Not in school anymore, thankfully :) It was a long haul. 7 years with my Doctorate in PT.

Naturally straight hair that has a lot of volume and gets quite poofy with the humidity here in Maine. Awful!

Reply

I love ProCompression socks, and those lime green and neon pink are my fav. They always make me look super tan when I wear them!

Reply

I love Pro Compression, they are my favorite socks. I use both the low trainer, calf sleeves and Marathon socks. Your food always looks so yummy!

Reply

I wear Thorlo Compression socks when I run; I only wear my compression socks for recovery after 10+ mile runs. Highly recommend the Thorlos–added padding at toe and heel and a supportive band around the arch.

Reply

OOOPS…I meant Thorlo Experia socks! :)

Reply

Love the new sock!!
I have naturally curly hair! I straighten it a lot though… not good. I am starting my Masters in the fall for Public Health and Nutrition! I am so excited!!!

Reply

I wear socks specifically for running otherwise I get blisters. Lovely!

I have wavy/curly, super thick hair that goes big and crazy if I just leave it to dry naturally! I’ve always wanted straight hair.

Reply

I’m about to finish school (PhD) and I cannot wait to be done! Also, I love those compression socks – bright colors and workout clothes were made for each other.

Reply

I am not picky about my running socks, except I like them to be a little bit thicker for some added comfort. I am studying Communication Disorders at BYU, and I am sooooo excited to graduate in December! My hair is wavy, but no the cute wavy. It is the wavy that looks like I really need to do my hair haha!

Reply

I have freakishly curly/wavy hair. Half of my head is super curly and the other half of my head is only wavy like. Sometimes I swear my hair is out to get me ;)

Reply

I run in Feetures socks. They’re pretty much the only thing I’ll run in except Pro Compression. But I rarely run in compression socks.

I have wavy hair that is on the verge of being curly. People usually think I have curly hair, but it doesn’t actually spiral like curly hair does. It’s more of an “S” shape. What do y’all think Brooke’s hair is going to do as she gets older? It’s so cute the way it’s kind of curly when it’s wet.

Reply

I’m a senior in high school but I’m heading off to Montana State U in the fall to study early childhood education! I have a mix between wavy and curly hair… it depends on the day!

Reply

We are getting a yogurtland here soon, I am super excited

Reply

I love your new socks, but they make me sad because I never got the socks that I won from your pro compression giveaway! :( :(

Reply

Wait a second… You never got them? Did they email you?

Reply

No! :( I sent you an email letting you know that I won, but I never heard back from you or them!

Reply

Ahhhhhhh I thought I had! I am truly so sorry! Will you email me your address and size and color of marathon socks that you want!

Reply

Really?! I can still get them? So awesome! Can you e-mail me from your e-mail or do I just use the Contact box from the menu on your page? THANKS AGAIN!

Reply

I am fussy about socks. My biggest thing is that they are thin enough but have some arch support. I did have a pink pair of Pro Compression socks that I ran my ultra with but they’re missing. Boo!
My hair is fine but silly curly, which makes it only about a 25 minute job to somewhat blow out. It’s fun to have options.

Reply

Those pink/green socks are sooo cute! I usually wear cotton socks while running which I know, I know its horrible. I need to buy some compression as I start training more for a half. I am in high school but as soon as I graduate I am going to nursing school!!! I am so excited! I have really natural curly hair and it will not stay straight! Brooke is so cute!

Reply

I love those socks, but I’m not really picky about my socks as long as they are comfortable. I like your blogging style – lots of pics. :) Out of school for many years now, and naturally curly hair.

Awww CUTE! Nice Shadezz!
