Yesterday was very sentimental for me.

Sure National Food Holidays are cool and all but they don’t really mean a whole lot to me except for National Frozen Yogurt Day.

National Frozen Yogurt Day is a very special day for me.

It is a day where we all celebrate the amazingness of froyo shops that offer 15 different flavors and an assortment of toppings.

DSC 7628

I hope that you too were able to celebrate this major holiday with your friends and/or family.

DSC 7627

The people behind us in line at Yogurtland were so confused as to why there were so many people there and we were able to inform them that IT WAS ALL FREE because of National Froyo Day… their faces lit up.  It was beautiful.

So I invited our friends over for burritos and somehow what ended up happening was that they brought over mac and cheese and broccoli.  Bangs Friend really likes to cook for us, I guess I am fun to cook for because I love everything and go on and on about how incredible the food is.

Brooke fell asleep and we did cool things like foam roll our IT bands

and then I had Bangs Friend cut all of my bangs off.

So…. I have officially taken the last 3 days off from running.  After my run on Friday my right IT band was feeling really tight and so I took my own advice for once and decided that I would rather take a few days off rather than a few months if it got worse.  It really wasn’t that bad at all but I don’t want to mess with those IT bands and instead just play it safe. I might run Wednesday but we’ll see.  Until then I’ll just do some yoga and core work and get more and more excited to run.

———————————————————————

Ever had IT band problems?  What did you do to cure it?  Did you stop running right away or run through the pain?

Anyone else taking a few days off from running?  How come?

Who celebrated National Froyo Day?

Chocolate or vanilla froyo/ice cream?

When was the last time you had your hair cut?  Who cuts your hair?

Glad you’re listening to your body!

It’s 8am and I am just craving some insane froyo now because of your first picture!!
It’s been a suuuper duper long time since i’ve had my hair cut – bad times because it’s so damaged and needs a cut!
Am I the only one who’s not a fan of sitting at the salon?! :(

Reply

You are not alone..love looking great after cut and highlights but after 30 min in the salon I get crazy antsy. I hear ya!!

I had IT band problems in high school but it ended up kind of working itself out! I had no idea yesterday was national fro yo day but I think the inventors would be cool with me celebrating a day late! It’s so awesome you have a friend who cuts hair! One time my friend trusted me enough to cut hers and I have no training or experience haha. It didn’t turn out too bad :-)

We need a picture with your new bangs obviously!!!! Love the picture of brooke passed out on the floor haha so random. My roommate wouldn’t go to get froyo with me last night. I’d say that’s very rude of her. She was too comfortable on the couch watching a dumb show on her laptop or something. I guess that means we have to make up for it with double the froyo this weekend.

Reply

Ha LOVE her asleep on the floor like that…Brooklyn does that all the time! IT band issues SUCK but yoga ALWAYS helped mine!

Vanilla froyo ! Boring I know, but that way the flavor doesn’t mess with the topping flavors!

Pretty sure I have a slight IT band issue on my left leg. Doesn’t hurt when I run, and luckily it is only minor sore if I twist my leg a certain way. Was not fun when it first happened! Ouch!

*btw kicked off my first giveaway over at my blog today**

I had to stop running last month for about a week, y ankle was so messed up. it hurt to walk on and hurt worse when i ran on it.
omg!!! i had no idea that yesterday was national froyo day :'(
chocolate all the way!!!!! no arguing that point :)
i’ve been with the same hairdresser since i was in 1 grade. i am now almost done with my 2nd yr of college…

Oh gosh…….I haven’t had Froyo in forever!! I am a chocolate girl all the way with every chocolate topping, of course! Can you believe I haven’t cut my hair in a YEAR!! I remember cutting it really short right before Valentine’s Day last year and hated it so I haven’t gone back since!

Hope you are back to running tomorrow! Have a great day, Janae!

Smart lady taking a few days off- it might be tough now but it will pay off BIG time!!
-I’m lucky to have not yet had IT issues. Shin splints, achillies and hip though :-(
-Today is my REST DAY! YAY!
-Maybe it’s too cold in Maine for people to care about fro yo day? bummer because I would have been 100% on board.
-Vanilla, yum :-) Or coffee!
-I really need a haircut- it has been months. I have a girl that I knew in High School who now owns a salon cut and color mine (since it’s almost race season I’ll be busting out the bright race day hair soon!)

Too bad it wasn’t National Froyo Day in the Netherlands! If it were I’d go chocolate with tons of fruit and other toppings! Today is tempo day! Although my muscles are still sore from bodypump yesterday…

Reply

I had such a GOOD run today…I know it’s not one of your questions but I had to share :)! I threw in 20 minutes of HIIT in there and I am definitely feeling the lactic acid build-up now…love it!

Oh, Janea, you just said my magic words…I could talk about IT bands for hours. HOURS. (no lie, don’t even try me…)

My IT band is my “warning signal” – when I start piling on too much intensity or distance too fast, it tells me. Thankfully, I usually manage to keep it under control with strengthening, stretching, and compression shorts/capris/pants.

Then, of course, there was that time I decided I could RACE three Ragnar relay legs. I’d totally trained the distance, but running 3 x 6+ miles, with 6 hours of rest in between actually allows for a considerably faster pace than 18 miles straight through. IT bands weren’t happy, but I was running with/for a team, so I sucked it up and ran through. This ultimately resulted in a few weeks of required rest/healing. Won’t do that again…

Nowadays, I roll almost every day, do lots of hip-targeting yoga, cross train to build all the surrounding muscles, and listen to them carefully.

Taking some time off = good move on your part. Love your IT bands, they’ll love you back. :)

Chocolate. Unless I’m piling on lots of chocolate toppings. Then, and only then, vanilla.

It really does sound like a beautiful holiday, and I wish I could have participated, but pesky allergies kind of get in the way, so I’ll just live vicariously through you :D And I have to say that that picture of Brooke sleeping on the floor totally cracked me up – with that cup there, it kind of looks like she’s passed out from doing a little too much drinking ;)

I just got my hair cut last week actually, and I go into a salon for most of the major work, but then I regularly trim my bangs myself because they just grow annoyingly fast.

Reply

I go to a hair school to have my hair cut. They do a good job, are CHEAP and supervised by the instructors.
I do have IT band issues but it never hurts while I am running, just after. I use muscle rub and a foam roller. Seems to help.
I missed the froyo yesterday but maybe I will have some later this week. Vanilla.

Haha, I make that face, too, when I foam roll my IT band. I roll mine out almost every night to make sure it doesn’t get too tight. Have you thought about going to see a massage therapist? They’re really good at massaging out IT bands. Otherwise, maybe try a self-massage tool that’s a little more hard core than just a regular foam roller. My massage therapist recommended that I take a look at the Trigger Point products and the Quadballer helps me really work out any bad kinks, and I get more pressure using that than my regular foam roller. Hope your IT band gets better soon!

Reply

Ugh, IT band problems are no fun. I hate to say it, but I usually run through it and stretch and roll the heck out of it after. I’ve had some pretty awful IT band issues in the past (my previous marathon PR was with insane IT band issues for most of the run) – not exactly sure what made it better, but I think a lot of it had to do with strength work, doing lateral stuff like side lunges and abductor work. Strengthening all those little supporting muscles really helps! I hope it feels 100% soon:)

Reply

I have trouble with my hips (from running) sometimes…When that happens I just make sure to do a lot of extra foam rolling, warming up and cooling down, and do more core/ab workouts to avoid making the pain worse. Those things always make it go away! Good for you for taking a little time to let your body get better before getting worse!

Reply

Since I’m a hairdresser and work by myself, I usually cut my own hair. However, I had a class in my salon last Monday and finally had the educator cut 1.5 inches off the left corner that had been hanging down for about a year.
I’m plagued by Mr. IT quite often. It seems to fluctuate from right to left. My best treatment is the foam roller. Makes me mad that I get so lazy with rolling until I have major flare-ups. Taking a few days off and rolling usually does cure me. If I have a flare-up near the end of a run I will run through it but if it is screaming at the beginning…NO WAY!
You are going to wonder how I live where I do but there are NO, I mean ZERO, froyo joints in my town or anywhere near. The nearest is probably 90 miles away. When I visit my sis in KC loading up a few times is a must!!!!!!! Chocolate hands down.
P.S. Those are some pretty serious shears you are getting bang trim with. I have huge hands and those even look scary to me!!! =)

Reply

Chocolate and vanilla?

I have had it band issues in the past and run through the pain only to develop hip bursitis and then runners knee from running in a weird way and over compensating. I had to take a month off and do lots of pt and strength building. Good call with taking a couple days off and foam rolling and stretching/strengthening your inner quad muscle (Your persorius I think it’s called (sp?) anyway apparently strengthening your inner quad can relieve some of the burden your IT bands take on. Sorry this sounds all technical and I’m no doctor but after weeks of simple leg stretching and strengthening and my it band was good as new! Hope you are good to go by Wednesday! :)

Reply

I definitely went to YogurtLand yesterday, too — got there right at 4:00 so the line wasn’t too crazy yet. Chocolate (and red velvet!) froyo all the way!

Reply

I did not get to celebrate National FroYo Day. We don’t have a lot of froyo shops in our area, which makes me sad. I always make up for this fact when I’m on vacation. I had FroYo every day in Vegas! I usually go for chocolate, but Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked frozen yogurt is my absolute favorite!

Reply

Ugh the IT band, better known in our household as the root of all evil!! I’ve always had issues with the right side of my body. Any running injury I’ve ever had was on the right side and they’ve all been IT band related. I ran through it once and learned my lesson (6 months no running) and now I foam roll every single day!

Reply

I am the worst froyo lover ever! I had no idea about froy day:( I took an unplanned 3 day running break bc I’ve been too busy sharing/celebrating our engagement!!

Reply

I actually made the decision last night to take a couple of days off of running or other intense working out. My dang knee!!! I’ve been getting shooting pain and pressure only 3 miles into my runs. YUCK! I think it’s an injury from the marathon I ran in October.

Reply

NOOOO! I can’t believe I missed Frozen Yogurt Day :( I’m heartbroken! I’m a chocolate lover for sure. I forget the last time I had my hair cut, but I always go to the local hair-design school (it’s cheaper and they haven’t messed up my hair yet!!)

Reply

Janae, I just found your blog and I love it! I have already stalked you some and looked back at some of your previous posts. I am super bummed that I missed frozen yogurt day! I am on the east coast and I am not sure our frozen yogurt places celebrated it :( I work part time at a running shoe store since I am in grad school and right in the same plaza is a fro yo place! As for IT band problems, thankfully I have never had any, but I ran in undergrad and my best friend struggled with IT problems. The best way to help treat it is rest, especially before it gets too bad! At one point she had to take almost a whole month off from running.

Reply

I can’t believe I missed it! Bummer. I can live thru your cup of awesomness though. . . :)

Glad you’re respecting your body! Before I discovered yoga I had to go to the chiropractor because my IT band was so tight the pain was radiating up my back! If I do not do yoga at least once a week, my IT bands get crazy tight now! I always cut my own bangs, but I am a hairstylist, so I guess its different haha. Vanilla hands down, with lots of toppings, including peanut butter!

Reply

Ahh I didn’t get to celebrate… I’m trying to eat super clean this week before I go away for a weekend with the manfriend. But a new froyo establishment opened a mile from my house… TROUBLE. So I think we’re going on Sunday when we return from our mini vacation!

I ran for the first time in 2 weeks last night and it was 3.3 miles of gloriousness. Take care of that IT band :)

I thought National Fro-Yo was tomorrow!?

Reply

My right IT Band started hurting at mile 17 of the JFK 50-Miler, but I managed to finished the race. By mile 40, I could continue to run (slowly) or walk, but transitioning from one to the other was excruciating! I finished the race, but couldn’t run comfortably for about six weeks. I took that time to stretch and ice it, and avoided doing anything that would aggravate it. Once it didn’t hurt when I ran, I started training for Boston and ran a PR there. That was 15 years ago and my IT Band hasn’t bothered me at all since! Best wishes getting yours healed quickly!

I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t celebrate “National Froyo Day” yesterday.

Hope your IT band feels better soon! I am so excited because they just opened a Yogurtland 10 minutes from my house! However, we missed free yogurt day :(

That fro yo looks amazing. Super jealous.

How did I miss such a wonderful HOLIDAY!?!? I must celebrate today! Signed up for my very first 1/2 in March so I’m really trying NOT to fall off the running bandwagon, although the NY temperatures don’t help!!! Love your blog. http://www.colorushealthy.com

Ahhhh IT BANDS!!!!! The pain of my existence. Seriously. And sadly I didn’t celebrate national frozen yogurt day, a liiiiittle busy. So wish I had been able to get free yogurtland though!

Reply

I’ve been thinking about getting a foam roller because of back problems and trigger points but how do I know what to look for? There’s seems to be a lot of options?

Reply

I so wish I had a Yogurtland near me and I would choose Chocolate. I need to redeem myself from the bad fro yo I had a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t even know it was possible to have bad fro yo.

I just got my hair cut last week. I am in between having bangs and growing them out, I can’t decide what I want!

Reply

I took a few days off because of my IT band back in the Fall, my foam roller and I became best friends :) I can’t believe I missed National Froyo Day, I didn’t hear anything about it around here. I might have to go today to make up for it, I have a $5 voucher for Red Mango (our local fro-yo place). I like vanilla & chocolate mixed together, yum.
I cut my own hair, just whenever it starts to irritate me!

Oh man. The look on Bangs face when she is foam rolling – I can totally relate! My IT Band never bothered me until I signed up for my 1st marathon (that I ended up droppng out of due to IT Band issues). I did physical therapy and foam rolled to try and keep training through the pain, but it eventually got so bad I couldn’t even sleep on it, kneel down, cross my legs, etc. It was terrible. I finally realized I had to stop running to heal it. Took almost 2 months off. It will act up now and again, but as long as I am careful, strecth, strengthen and foam roll, I have been ok. Way to listen to your body!

I am so jealous of your fro yo! I was so tempted to go get one yesterday, I REALLY wanted it, but didn’t have the time to go. Food really is so much more amazing when it is free! I don’t think I have ever gotten vanilla fro yo from Yogurtland and very rarely just chocolate – not when there are all those other amazing flavors! My all time favorites are oatmeal cookie, nutter butter, smore, and mango pina colada. Mmmmm. Are they open before 8AM?? ;)

Chris falls victim to IT stuff all the time, in fact he is dealing with it right now and has a routine of stretches he is religious about doing. I tripped over him this morning doing them…….no lie. I’ll see if he has any secrets to fill you in on.
Hang in there with the no running thing. Just keep getting together with Bangs friend, it’s easy to forget about running when your’re with other peeps.

Reply

I had some IT band issues 2 years ago, I was bad and didn’t stop running since I was training for a race, but it turned out okay since I modified my routine. Although I can tell it wasn’t severe pain like a torn muscle it was just tense and sensitive. I started every run with like 10 min on the elliptical just to get all my leg muscles warmed up, and I increased my stretching every day and found specific stretches for IT band, as well as started foam rolling for the first time. Good luck I hope you feel 100% again soon!

Reply

I had IT band pain for awhile and the only thing that made it go away was doing some stretches a few times a day. Now I just do them after I run, but the pain has never come back. Standing with one foot crossed over the other and sticking out my hip to the side is one that works great. There are some others that you can google. Good luck!

Reply

With any IT band troubles I’ve had, I have found that if I remember to tighten my lower abs, it helps prevent it. So YES, rest it until it’s manageable and then when you’re back at it, remember to tighten your abs a lot (like if you had a zipper on your pants to keep up). If you do that, your hips will have less lateral motion and tehrefore put less stress on the ol’ IT band.

CHOCOLATE fro yo. I’m so bummed I didn’t know about the holiday yesterday. I feel like a failure. :)

Reply

IT band injuries are the worst!! Good for you for listening to your body!

Reply

I had knee pain when I ran in college, which ended up being from my tight IT. Occasionally, it will flare up now. Stretching and regular yoga really helps keep it at bay, and just like you’re doing taking a rest day when needed works wonders!
I’m still running the same amount of days this week as usual, just decreasing my mileage as I taper for my half this weekend. Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete!
I didn’t have any froyo yesterday, but I did enjoy some chocolate and vanilla pudding…which is exactly how I love my froyo, swirl away!

Reply

I’m in the midst of a mental breakdown because there has been so little running happening here and when I do run, its not good. It’s just one thing after another. Angry quad muscle, then IT band, then really tight sore hips, now when I run it just feels so hard, even when it’s not supposed to.
On another note, we don’t really have wonderful froyo places here in Michigan. Sad, but true.
And my haircuts have turned into just trims lately. Mostly because I haven’t seen any styles I must have and also because it’s so easy to just put it up and not deal with it on the run. Actually, whenever I get it cut I tell her the only thing I care about is that no layers are so short that they don’t stay in the ponytail.

Reply

Vanilla froyo all the way! I always ask to taste the chocolate flavor, but end up getting vanilla. Both of your cups looked amazing. Good job on not running, I know its hard but you´ll feel great on your next run. Good luck with that!

Reply

i had runner’s knee and stupidly ran through it; probably would have healed faster if i had rested, but it’s so difficult to take 6+ days off!

Reply

I had froyo this past Saturday. YUM! I am not a huge chocolate fan so I’d definitely pick vanilla!!

I’m currently taking a few days off of running because I’ve been having some pain in my left foot. The x-rays are clear so I’m going for an MRI tomorrow….It’s so weird. It’s like the entire front half of my foot hurts.

I don’t really have hair because of my alopecia. It’s at about 50% right now so I just keep it buzzed really short and either wear my wig or a hat. My 6 year old daughter actually buzzes it for me right now. haha. She thinks it’s really fun!

YES my new injury motto is “A stitch in time saves nine” and I AM GOING TO FOLLOW IT.

Reply

IT band problems have been the only running injury I’ve had- I let mine get so bad I had to take a few weeks off. You’re smart by resting it!

Reply

Hate ITBS! Have dealt w these issues too many times! The foam roller has been my saving grace…use it all the time especially when IT band gets tight. Also you can use a softball or baseball for trigger points. Feel better soon!

Reply

Can’t wait to see pictures of the new bangs! I usually go a long time between haircuts. It isn’t high on my to do list a lot of times. I love the woman who cuts my hair. She is the only person I trust with my hair (I have super curly hair). She gave me my very first hair cut and I have no idea what I will do when she retires.
I finally got to run yesterday after not being able to for three weeks, although it wasn’t injury related. My hubby went to China for work and it was too cold to take the kids out in the jogging stroller. Thank goodness for the elliptical in the basement to give me some sort of exercise or I would have gone crazy! Yesterday was pure bliss to be running!

Reply

i always have IT band issues…i actually use a PVC pipe (its great for feet too) to roll it out…the the worst kind of pain rolling on it but it gets stuff done!

also, and more importantly, i dont know what your feelings are towards nutella, but today is a world nutella day. http://www.nutelladay.com/. two holidays. back to back. its like christmas. but better?

I love the look on Bangs’ face when she’s rolling her IT band, I know that look well. you see, I blasted my IT in my last half marathon, so I had to take FOUR WEEKS off of running. I’m glad I did, I also got fitted for running shoes after that, so now I’m running pain free. I’m sure to foam roll my IT band really well after every run now, so I’m familiar with that hurts so good face.

I need my bangs cut soooooooo badly! They are basically not bangs anymore. I’m not brave enough to cut them myself.

I didn’t realize yesterday was National FroYo Day!!! I will make up for it TODAY!

Whenever I have IT band trouble it usually means my hips are out of allignment. I head to the chiropractor for a quick adjustment and then bam, no more IT pain.

Now THAT is some froyo!! Wish I had known it was National Frozen Yogurt day!!!

They just opened up a FROYO place near me – sooooo excited to go and try it out. I’ve never had self serve froyo before!

I’ve had trouble with my IT band especially on the right. I’ve been doing a lot of glute strength building to help because it’s caused by imbalances in my hips.

We hit up Yogurtland for free froyo yesterday and we’ll be hitting up Menchie’s on Wednesday because apparently they couldn’t decided which day was actually National Froyo day

Noooooooooo ! I missed Frozen Yogurt day. This reminds me of a Spring Break – a few years ago, every SINGLE day I took the kids to a different frozen yogurt place. We called it the “Fro Yo Challenge”. Not really very challenging, but totally fun.

I had problems with my left ITB last year on my first 14 mile long run in training for my first marathon. At mile 6 I had a very sudden onset of sharp shooting pain in my left ITB. I finished that run with a walk/run method and would run until it would be sharp, then walk. I stretched really well and I continued to run short runs as long as I was pain free.
I am very grateful to work in a hospital and I know our physical therapists very well. My therapist told me to go against everything I’ve ever read and stretch really good Before my runs. And after of course. He showed me the stretches for the ITB and told me to hold them for at least 90 seconds.
Now, I warm up before my long runs and stretch really well before and after. I foam roll and ice after all my long runs!
I also started to do more core and strength training dvd’s since I know I have a weak core and that is where a lot of injuries can stem from!!
I had a 19 oz fro yo treat yesterday :) I didn’t even know it was National Fro Yo day!!!!

I am SO SO SO SO glad you shared the news about FREE yogurt day. I grabbed my friend and we hit up the Yogurt Land in Little Italy (here in San Diego). It was glorious! I fit a whole lot in that tiny cup!

Oh yeah, major IT problems. I have serious knee problems, that are due in part to my faulty IT band. Not talking care of it, and the subsequent problems it was causing, caused me to have to stop running for a REALLY long time. Also to have a ton DR bills. So much better to respect and listen to your body! Good for you. I took yesterday off even though i really didn’t want to. My calves and knees were super sore. Feeling so much better today.
Excited to see your new hair cut. Getting your hair cut always feels so good, and has just been way too long since i’ve had mine cut. In serious need of a hair cutting friend!

Reply

I just took two days off from running because my left calf was bothering me after a monster week of running last week. I had IT band issues a couple of years ago, but a lot of foam rolling and stim at the chiropractor really did the trick.

Reply

I had IT band problems in both knees for 5 months last year when I started running..there is nothing worse and I should have stopped and given it time to heal, but instead I pushed through it and made it worse. Not smart!

I am taking a few days off of running because I did an Athletic Conditioning class last night at the YMCA and ended up pulling a back muscle during the warm ups…ugh who does that!? I am so much pain right now and I was supposed to go to hot yoga with my friend tonight but I can hardly move so I am going to listen to my body this time and give it a break! I hope your IT band feels better soon!

Reply

I’ve never had IT band issues… but, from what I’ve heard, don’t mess around with them! Very smart for you to take a few days off of training to further prevent damage. Stretch it out!

Despite my full on froyo addiction (seriously my bank account is crying) I think the sheer mass o people might stress me out!

I wish I had yogurtland close to me–and I would’ve been ALL over that!!!

IT band injuries are the worst–keep using that foam roller, girl <3

Reply

I’m having IT band issues right now..I’m foam rolling and I bought an IT band wrap from my local running store. It actually helped while I was running and took the pain away, magic!

Funny you ask, I’m actually getting my hair cut/highlighted this week…I can’t wait!

How long did you have to wait in line at Yogurtland?? I don’t have any froyo places near me…sad.

Reply

Ugh yes ITB issues are the worst. I had pretty bad IT band issues a few years ago and couldn’t run the Twin Cities Marathon. I had to go through physical therapy and take a few months off. Since then, I try to foam roll after every long run (should be every run, really!) and stretch my hips. Feel better!

Reply

IT probs mean get rolling and get on the hip/glute/hamstring strengthening program. After childbirth especially, our womanly hips can have trouble restabilizing. And getting the core stronger is a perfect plan. You are doing the right thing by taking time off from things that hurt and tighten more. You will be so glad you did in the long run. Get it? Bahahahahhahaha!

Bah!!! I didn’t know it was national frozen yogurt day yesterday!!! I’m really sad right now!
That’s what I get for not being in the blog world lately!
Happy to hear all is well with you Janae!!! Miss you!

My IT band starts bothering me at around 10 miles or so, but so far, stretching it out and icing it has helped (knock on wood). it’s usually my right IT band that bothers me where it connects to my knee. I’m celebrating National Froyo Day tomorrow at Menchie’s because they’re doing free froyo tomorrow! I prefer chocolate froyo, but I love trying all the flavors! I think I need to invest in a foam roller though.

I just thought this morning that I’m in need of a haircut because my bangs are over my eyes… My mom’s best friend used to cut my hair but now that I live in FL and she lives in IL, I just go to Great Clips and hope for the best. The last time I got my hair cut was mid-December, but it’s short, so I need it cut like every 6 weeks. I’m looking like a shaggy puppy.

Reply

IT band problems were the death to my running last year. 2012 was real rough without running in my life. I actually foam rolled to the point where I made my IT bands worse.
I foam roll still now but have to pay attention to the good hurt and the bad hurt. The good hurt makes it feel better and loosens it up and the bad hurt makes me want to cry and makes my IT band hurt worse.
I get a massage once a month now (i can tell after a month that I really need it) and then do tons of strength exercises. I also had to stop running 50-60 miles a week and can only run 20-30 miles a week now.
Been loving my IT band strap lately but didn’t feel like it did anything at first.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Fro-yo!! Yours looks ridiculous though!! I want one ..now! I got my hair ‘trimmed’ about 3 months ago, I am growing it long for my cousins wedding, then hopefully the next day, getting a total bob-style. I miss short hair. Much easier to manage! I have a hairdresser and best colorist ever, whom I have known for about 16 years now. She’s awesome!

I took yesterday off. Recovering from the weekend bike ride and run. I have had calf issues, knee and hip issues before, but after a week of rest and gentle swims, they eased up. Good idea to keep resting. I hope it feels better soon!

I am a chocolate loving girl so chocolate froyo it is.

I get my hair cut at Capelli Salon in Los Gatos by Brianne. She’s really good with my hair. I got it cut and thinned out a little back in January. I usually go about 6 months between each trim or cut.

IT band issues are no fun! I feel like I’m constantly battling mine. I read through all the comments for help, but if you find certain stretches/exercises that help yours, I’d love to know what works! Maybe I just need to be diligent in foam rolling or stretching every day, but I’d rather cure the problem than just treat the symptoms, you know?

Also, you did an amazing job filling your free froyo cup again this year! :) haha

Most important things first, I didn’t know it was national fro yo day and now I am sad. I’l have to celebrate ASAP. Oh my goodness, you too!? I emailed you awhile back concerning my IT band and it has been 3 weeks of mixed emotions. This injury may have been cumulative/overuse, but it literally gave out on ONE run. I am killing it in the gym to come back stronger than ever. Per my PT my IT band hurting is a result of tight hip flexors and I am all out of whack. That is what a little rest and adding kettlebell to my routine will do. PLEASE be smart, I learned the hard way. Although, I am resting I am doing a little trial and error with running. My 40/45 mile weeks are now down to 2-6. 2 miles straight is a celebration ;) Hope the rest helps!!! I feel your pain.

I got frozen yogurt yesterday…but it was NOT free. What the heck?! Your yogurt shop is WAY cooler!!! :)
I’m sorry your IT band has been acting up…hope it’s feeling better today.
I love how Brooke can just fall asleep in random places- that’s awesome! I’m a bit jealous ;)

No pics of the “after” hair? =)

I am the only person I know who does not like frozen yogurt. My kids LOVE it, though – my son actually had his 5th birthday at a Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt shop.

Totally celebrated thanks to your reminder!!!
I love chocolate yogurt, in fact chocolate EVERYTHING!
It’s been so long since I’ve had a haircut I shouldn’t even admit it. However, I finally scheduled a cut for Thursday! Long overdue :)

The first time I ran a half marathon, my knee hurt practically the whole time I was training. It wasn’t until towards the end of my training that I finally asked someone for advice. Turns out I just wasn’t stretching it enough / right. I couldn’t believe such pain could be cured so easily. Now I try to aaaaaalways stretch, even though it’s pretty annoying at times.

That froyo looks amazing. Sadly we don’t have a yogurtland around here, but I need to try it soon!

I just took 3 days off too! And that’s unheard of unless I’ve just run a marathon, or the doctor or a coach prescribes it. Went to bed Friday night with tight calves, woke up Saturday morning with them even worse! Not sure why. I kinesio taped them up, swam, biked and rested the past 3 days, and just ran today. All good! It pays to be smart!

I have had IT issues where I had to go to PT for it. Now I take care of it mostly with my foam roller and yoga. I love the DVD titles Yoga for Runners: Intermediate Program by Christine Felstead. Sometimes I just do the last 20 minutes of the sit-down portion and I feel great afterwards. I wish I has your yogurt store by us…
