Three different restaurants in one day, now that is an accomplishment.  The first restaurant was to go hang out with my favorite Utah running girls at Costa Vida.  I didn’t eat there because I had a second lunch to go to at a crepe restaurant that I really wanted to try out.

DSC 9012

It is a very good thing that I never knew about this Crepe Cafe when I lived here because I would have sold all of our possessions to afford bfast, lunch and dinner at this establishment.

DSC 9015

I went here with the directors of the She Runs Retreat and we talked all about the weekend and about how we could live off of these crepes and soup.  I had the chicken, bacon and grilled tomato crepe drizzled in ranch with the best tomato basil soup ever.

Brooke and I then went and hung out at my best friend’s (since the 4th grade!) house.

I think the last week of partying and running all around the state of Utah finally hit me and Brooke because we both came home and crashed for a good long nap.

I knew that I only had one more opportunity to eat at Cafe Rio before I left.  It was bittersweet.  I had the steak salad with my mom and dadio.  PS my sister told me that Curly (my niece) was telling a lady about her aunt Janae and the way that she described me was that my hair is always in a ponytail… pretty darn accurate.

DSC 9021

I always wonder what Brooke is looking at.

After dinner I went to my brother-in-laws gymnastic gym to get Brooke started at a very young age.

DSC 9032

Her favorite were the rings

But she also really got into her balance beam routine.

DSC 9036

I impressed everyone with my roundoff back handspring double back tuck.

Maybe I should stick to running.

Best crepe you have ever had?

Are you a nap taker?  Do you like naps or do they just make you feel more tired than you were before you took the nap?

Any other ‘pony tail every day of their life’ people like me?

How many miles are on your schedule today?

I have honestly never had a crepe! I am intrigued now though! LOVE naps. They definitely help me get through the day. And yes I am a pony tail/bun everyday of my life kind of person too! It’s just easier that way….

Reply

I’m so in love with Brooke’s pigtails!
Run today- 6-7 miles + weight workout. And maybe an afternoon walk with G :D
Hope you have a safe flight back- love you!

Awe Brooke is super cute trying to be a gymnast!! I actually skipped my run this morning because I had a late night gymnastics class last night that made me very sleepy this morning!!

Reply

Haha I need to go to a gymnastics gym. Brooke is just the cutest at always. I’m certainly impressed by your 3 restaurants in one day. I’ve never had a savory crepe. I’ve only had a belgian chocolate one but I bet it tastes absolutely amazing. Have a great trip home- I bet you’re excited to see Billy! Oh, and I NEVER take my hair out of a ponytail.

Reply

any place that has an entire wall of nutella has to be delicious! the best crepe i’ve had was a strawberry and nutella crepe in paris. probably part of it was the scenery (it was right by the eiffel tower), but it was soooo good! i had two in the 3.5 days we were there!!

Reply

I am not a huge crepe lover! I do have my hair in a ponytail most days, especially after I work out! I managed about 2.5 miles on the treadmill this morning, but have a full workout after school today! If I take a nap, I set an alarm for 25 minutes. Anything more and I feel worse than when I laid down! Brooke is the cutest on the gymnastics equipment! Getting her started at a young age, I like it ;)

Does Brooke ever cry?:o

Reply

Best crepe pistachio cream we had in Sicily this summer so delicious….naps are a must I love napping….ponytails are an everyday thing over here to when you live at the gym lol….Brooke looks like she”ll be a natural at gymnastics

Reply

I just had a seafood crepe, lobster, scallops and shrimp, covered in thick white creamy sause. Yum.

I love naps. I’d take one everyday if possible.

Reply

You mean there’s another way to wear your hair other than a ponytail? :-)

My husband is a nap man, and we’ve instituted Family Nap Time in our home. Everyone goes to his/her spot for 1 hour (or more if the naps just carry over). You can do whatever quiet activity you choose. It works really well for creating a bit of balance in the day.

Reply

I am always in ponytails too!!! :)

Reply

i have never had crepes, ever, and need to try! every time i consider ordering one, the pancakes or stuffed french toast catch my attention and i get distracted :)

Reply

I don’t really like crepe’s. A crime, I know.
NO naps. I have nightmares when I nap and wake up very cranky.
I do put my hair in ponytail but it was getting really damaged so I stopped, except for workouts.
Did 3 miles running and then 3 miles hiking yesterday.

My hair is up in a pony more than I would like, but I have to little girls who need to have their pretty and nobody is looking at me anyway :) I love crepes, my Grandmother was born and raised in France and come here with my Grandfather when she was 26, her crepes (and basically all food) was the best I ever had. I hope you enjoyed your trip with family, such a fun surprise! My MIL got here last night so I missed my run this morning because we were up late chit chatting, but as much as I love running I love my family more :) I’ll go tonight! 5 miles Tempo

Reply

ponytail all the way!! Do you like blintzes- they are the Jewish version of crepes. I make a cheese one that is very awesome

Only 5 miles today- a little speed traning in the cold weather!

Reply

I’m sadly in a ponytail almost everyday. My baby has been sick and now teething. If I can sleep an extra 15-30 minutes before work I will. You can tell when he sleeps through the night because I flat iron my hair. Time to do that before I get him up this morning!

Reply

I always have my hair up! Once in high school a girl came up to me and said, “omgsh, your hair is down I have never seen that!” That is when I realized maybe I should wear it down some more! I have 4 speedy miles on todays schedule.

Reply

Love the snaps! You and Ash are so adorable – miss you both!!!! :)

Reply

I live in a ponytail/bun. It’s just so much easier! I’m a big fan of naps but unfortunately can’t take them often…stupid job!

Reply

The best crepe I ever had was one I happened to get at an outdoor mall in Tokyo a few years back. It had a piece of cake and frosting in the middle!

Reply

I’ve never had a crepe, but I have tons of notes to try making one….I need to give it a try! Brooke looks like a future Olympian!!

Reply

We have a crepe restaurant in our city & I absolutely love it. It’s a place that I forget exists until someone mentions crepes and then I’m dying to go there… like right now! I wear a pony tail or bun 50% of the time. I often start off the day with the best of intentions, but by the time I get home from work, it’s up.

Reply

When I get to go home to NY all I do is eat and visit my favorite food haunts. It’s so much fun.

Reply

You are so funny. I love reading your blog. I’m still nursing an injury-it’s been forever (well almost 3 weeks) since I’ve run. I’m dying (not to be melodramatic). Brooke is a natural in the gym!

Reply

Brooke is too cute on the beam! She’s clearly a natural.

I usually wear a ponytail all morning until I run and shower, then I look like a normal person for the rest of the day.

Today is 4 miles. I’m loving taper!

Reply

I’m pretty big on ponytails. That way I can shower at night and just roll out of bed in the morning…
Naps always make me more tired and really cranky/mean. I try to avoid them at all costs.
About 8 miles on the agenda today. I normally run before work, but it’s going to be 60 degrees and sunny today, so I decide to enjoy the beautiful weather and run after work, instead (plus I was really sleepy..it wasn’t hard to convince myself to sleep in).

Reply

My hair is ALWAYS pulled back. I love the observations kids make, it makes you realize what they are thinking! I went for a short 3 mile run the day before my half, and the first thing my 5 year old said when I walked in the door was, “wow, that was a short run huh?” SO funny that she knows when I say I’m going for a run it’s usually a lot longer.
I love crepes. I never ever have them – but they are so good filled with all that deliciousness.
Naps make my skin crawl. I hate them. My husband used to force me to take naps when the kids were babies (and they didn’t like to sleep at night) and I was always in a worse mood after!
8 miles on the treadmill today! Yay!:)

Reply

I did five miles with a friend this morning. First time in 2013 it was warm enough to wear shorts!!

Reply

Brooke looks like a natural!! She become the next Mckayla Maroney with all those hilarious faces she makes!! I’ve only had a crepe once….don’t worry I am working on it!!

Reply

I ended up cutting my hair into a pixie cute because I was tired of wearing a ponytail everyday. I’m pretty dramatic, but I like the short hair now! :)
Looking for Brooke in the 2028 Olympics!

Reply

Could Brooke possibly be any cuter?! :)

Reply

The pictures of Brooke being a little gymnast are adorable.

I am NOT a nap taker, they always making me groggy and grouchy. The only time I take naps is when I’m really sick since I’m already groggy and grouchy :)

Reply

I’m going to try to do 5-7 miles tonight if the roads are cleared. I stepped into knee deep snow at 4:30 this morning, laughed, then went back to bed. That certainly wasn’t going to happen.

Reply

I especially like your questions today! I love naps, but haven’t been taking them lately. I thought napping while the baby napped would be easy. And I am a pony tail every day girl! It’s so easy and ends up looking tidier than my styled hair by the end of the day!

Reply

I have only had one crepe and it was banana and Nutella and way too sweet for me!
I am not a napper! No matter how hard I try I cannot nap, even when I am sick.
I am a ponytail every day girl! Always have been!

Reply

I love crepes! I’m not picky-I like any and all of them. Unfortunately crepes are not big in the south.

I also love naps! And, now that tennis season is in full swing for the high school, naps are practically nonexistent.

I’m doing 10 miles with 6x1K at 5K effort. It’s probably going to be a treadmill run after the tennis match tonight around 8:30.

My hair is constantly in a ponytail! I always have two hair rubberbands around my wrist too-just in case one breaks.

Reply

YES i am a ponytail everyday person!!! its pretty bad but i HATE doing my hair so its either down or up in a ponytail!

Reply

Definite yes to crepes, pony tails, and naps. My mom used to make the best cream cheese and jam filled crepes, and then she’d sprinkle them with some powdered sugar. Gah! I need those back in my life…

Reply

Awww Brooke looks like a little gymnast in the making!

I did gymnastics for 8 years – I loved it so much! I competed a lot and actually did pretty well with it. The beam was my favourite. Just seeing the pictures of it makes me nostalgic!

Reply

Oh, my goodness. There was a delicious crepe restaurant in Rochester…they served savory food in crepes, like wraps – then, obviously, sweet dessert crepes. I’m sure my favorite was something with chocolate – but they were all pretty tasty.

0 running miles today, but I did hot yoga and spin sessions, back-to-back, and sweat enough to equal two runs.

Noooooooo naps. I mean, sometimes I do, but the after-effects are not pretty. I can get up just fine in the morning, but from a nap? I snooze the alarm, and whine about getting up, and STILL need a cup of coffee to get going again. So usually I skip the nap and go straight for the coffee. =)

Reply

I have my hair in a ponytail most of the time. Except when taking a nap. ;)

Reply

I almost always wear my hair in a pony too! So much so that if I ever wear it down, everyone asks if I got my hair cut! ;)

Reply

I’ve only ever had crepes with raspberry or grape jelly.. never thought about having one as a sandwich.. yours looks delicious!

I put my hair in a ponytail every day.. It’s just too complicated to fix my hair only to go workout and get all sweaty again.. I’m done with the perfect hair days..

Love the pix of Brooke.. She is too adorable!

Reply

The best crepe I ever had was a savory one (ham and cheese) in Paris! After a long morning of bike riding around the city, my friends and I enjoyed the crepes outside! I am definitely NOT a nap taker. If I am super tired I would rather have a cup of cofee than a nap!

Reply

Best Crepe I ever had? Can’t narrow it down to only one. So I’ll narrow it down to one RESTAURANT. We were in Nantes, France and there was this cute, local crepery. They had appetizer crepes, entree crepes and dessert crepes!! My dessert crepe was called “After 8”. Chocolate crepe with mint ice cream and fudge on top! I’m still working off that meal and it was in 2008!

Reply

I have actually never had a crepe! I would definitely be a ponytail everyday girl if I didn’t have to dress up a little for my job everyday! You better believe I make up for it on the weekends :)

Reply

We use to make crepes for French class in high school and we’d put apple pie filling in them! I am a SEASONAL nap taker haha i only can nap if it’s yucky outside!!

Reply

I love naps! Don’t get round to taking one as often as I’d like though…

Btw, the picture of Brooke with the rings is out of this world cute.

Reply

I love naps when I can get them:) I’m hoping to run a bit today, but my tooshie is pretty sore from biking yesterday…I’m such a wimp!

Reply

Omg that crepe sounds amazing, and I LOVE those pictures of Brooke doing gymnastics! Haha she’ll be in the Olympics in no time! There’s a place near my school called the French Market, and inside they have a bunch of different vendors. One makes gluten free crepes and when I had time last semester, I’d go for lunch! My favorite was a turkey, tomato and pesto crepe (and some sort of cheese… swiss?).

Reply

Sad day…but you’ll get to see Billy! =)

Reply

I have never had a crepe! I even spent a week in France this fall, plus go to Epcot France on a regular basis… I guess there was just too much other yummy food I never got around the the crepes. As for the naps – please. Yes and thank you – I love em. I used to work at a summer camp and we had rest hour every day after lunch. Best naps ever. I still take a rest hour a few times a week.

When I had a short pixie cut I would style my hair every day, and it only took 5 minutes. Now that it takes a good 20 minutes min to blowdry and straighten or curl my hair I have a lot of ponytail and ballerina bun days.

Just got back from a 5 miler that was supposed to be a 4 miler, but hey, what can I say, I’m an over achiever (lets get real – I got lost.)

Reply

I am not a nap person at all. Regardless of how many hours I’ve been up with Max in the night – no naps for me! I actually feel more tired and lethargic when waking up for a nap. I prefer to just get up and get some fresh air.

I have my hair in a ponytail almost every day. I do not have time in the morning to really style my hair, and when it drys without a blow-dry it gets a little wonky, so my hair goes up by 10am usually :-)

the best crepe I ever had was a crepe with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and creme de menthe smothered it. SO GOOD

Reply

Ugh I do the messy bun thing everyday. I really need to put more effort in :)

And I love naps…sometimes my nap turns into a sleep and I feel super groggy when I wake up.

Nice and easy 3k tempo run tonight :).

Reply

oh my gosh that crepe! My favorite is a nutella and banana crepe, I have never tried a savory crepe but it is on my list of things to try.

Reply

I think I know what Brooke is looking at… she’s plotting to steal that lovely mountain of food… better watch out!

Reply

I used to live with my hair in a pony tail, then I cut it all off into a pixie haircut which is amazing for running…no more hair in my face just throw a hat on and you’re good to go.

Reply

Today, only Sandrine is going to remark. She can’t stop talking about crepes (she is from France). She says you can put anything in a crepe and eat them as an appetizer like ham, cheese and mushrooms or cheese and broccoli. Anything. Any veggies. Deli meat and cheese. Her favorite? Not the healthiest choice: Nutella.

Reply

was it the crepe place on state street in Orem? because if you’ve never had that until now- I’m shocked. haha it’s sooooo good!! definitely worth spending $$$ to eat there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner… oh and dessert. duh

xo

Reply

I love Crepes! We have this awesome crepe place in my area! Delish!
I wish I was running today…snow :(
So I am going to cross train instead!
Have a good one HRG! :)

I have an eight miler, with three tempo miles like the middle.
Brooke is soooo cute in those pictures! Actually, she’s just always cute :)

Ahh my gosh Brooke is so charmingly squidgy. Is she ever not happy?!?!

PS: PONY TAIL CLUB UNITE.

Reply

The best (and only) crepe I’ve ever had was in Paris! And I wish I could nap, but work gets in the way.

Reply

These are some stellar pics of brooke! I don’t think I have ever had a crepe before… I have plans to go to a place soon though with a fellow DC blogger! I am a terrible sleeper so a nap is normally not in the cards for me!! I work out / shower at lunch so I typically come to work in a pony tail and then wear my hair down after the gym : ) People know when I don’t work out because of the hair haha! I had an easy 3ish miles this am!

Reply

When I was in high school, my family and I went to France and London for my sister’s graduation present. I had the BEST fruit & nutella, and cheese crepes. I could’ve lived off those and those alone for the rest of my life and been a happy camper :) Looks like Brooke will be joining the pony tail club as well! Love those little pig tails!

Reply

I LOVE naps… college hooked me on naps haha and I’m never looking back! They always make me feel so so good, unless I’m super tired and crash for hours, then I usually wake up and am ready to go back to bed.

Reply

I am a horrible nap taker. My favorite crepe is dark chocolate raspberry. Delicious.

Reply

There is a crepe place here in Tampa and has a gouda and fig jam crepe that is out of this world. Weird combo I know and I only tried it because my husband ordered it but it was so delicious!

Reply

I want to go to there! Where is that crepe place? I need to add it to my Tour of Utah’s Restaurants next time I go. Any place that has that much nutella on hand needs to be applauded.

I am TOTALLY a ponytail person. I’ve had more than one amazing haircut wasted because I ended up putting it in a pony tail every day.

Reply

Hey gorgeous! It was 1607 S state street in Orem! You have to go there!

Reply

Best crepe I ever had, had little potato chunks, green onion, sour cream, cheese, tomato, and if there was anything else in it I wasn’t aware lol, it was amazing though! I use to put my hair in a ponytail, but not anymore. no run for me today, weights :)

Reply

Those pictures of Brooke are so so cute!!

Reply

I am certainly a nap taker and a ponytail everyday of my life gal. On the off change I decide to wear my hair down people tend to be astonished and not recognize me as quickly haha I have not had to many crepes in my life but yours looks delicious!

Props on the eating and gymnastic skills ;)

Reply

I LOVE a good nap!!! I don’t feel guilty about taking them anymore either because I’m working out so much. I’ve earned that nap!!!! I ran 3.1 this morning before work.

Reply

That wall of Nutella is making me drool.

I’m planning to do an 8-mile run today. I ran my first marathon almost a month ago, and the most I’ve ran at one time since has only been 5 miles. Figured I should probably do a little longer run at this point…

Reply

One day ponytails will be super fashionable and we’ll all look put together every single day haha

Reply

Haha girl I have a pony tail almost every day of my life as well. The only time I don’t is if I’m doing something on the weekends!

Reply

hahahah brooke on the balance beam!!

My hair is ALWAYS in a ponytail when I’m home!! Out in public, i leave it down though

Reply

Obsessed w that sweatshirt! Where from?

Reply

Utah looks mighty tasty! Glad you are enjoying your time there hun! xoxo

Reply

I’m scheduled to run 3 miles today! Actually a long run for me. I haven’t had very much motivation since my half-marathon! It’s time to get back on it though, and the weather here in Houston is perfect for an afternoon run!

Ahhhh HER pigtails!! So adorable. Love all the pics!

That soup sounds/looks amazing, p.s. Mmmmmm

That lunch was soooo good. I need to go back there ASAP!!!

When I get my hair trimmed, I have my hairstylist check to make sure it’s still long enough to ponytail it before she’s allowed to cut!!!

Love the shot of Brooke and the rings!

That crepe looks so amazing!!!!!!!!! I had Cafe Rio for the first time in the SLC airport a few weeks ago and it changed my life.

I just needed to say that I licked the computer screen when I saw the picture of the crepe and tomato basil soup! Looks amazing- and addicting!

Hi Janae. I’m a long time reader but I’ve never commented. I have to tell you, as a mother of 2 adolescents, I’m so impressed with how quickly and easily you’ve adapted to motherhood. I realize we only see so much on the blog and I’m sure you have some rough moments like all moms do. But! You take Brooke everywhere, you haven’t limited yourself and your activities, but instead blended her in. I know you probably don’t give yourself this credit, so I thought I would. You’re setting a beautiful example for other young mothers and for your daughter. :)

Reply

When you get back to CA you have to go to Sweet Peas for crepes!! It is in Los Gatos and they have a zillion different kinds.

Reply

So much NUTELLA!
Brooke is the cutest little mini gymnast I’ve ever seen! 2028 women’s gymnastics team? :)

Reply

I really try to blow my hair dry and make it look nice to wear it down, but I always end up putting it up at some point. It’s very thick and it’s just more comfortable to pull it back. Maybe I should just cut it super short and not have to worry about it!

Reply

Brooke’s facial expressions are the best!
I had an egg, gruyere cheese and spinach crepe in france that was amazing… and a nutella and banana crepe at our farmer’s market that was also pretty good! i like how yours is panini pressed.
I take as many naps as I can fit into my schedule!!

Reply

I always make sure that I don’t cut my hair too short for a pony tail – a must for me! Yesterday, I bought some Jif chocolate flavored hazelnut spread – thicker than Nutella. Good!

Reply

You know, I am embarrassed to say I have never tried a crepe in my life, but after this post I seriously want to! Only a few miles scheduled for today, since I am doing speedwork and any more than 4 miles of that might kill me. Add me to the “ponytail every day of the week” club, except I guess if we are being specific, mine would be “messy bun every day of the week.” Oh, and I never nap. Unless my body is so exhausted I can’t physically control it from falling asleep, I hate taking naps because I always feel like I should be doing something else, OR I sleep forever and miss something important (like dinner).

Reply

I’ve never had a crepe before and didn’t even know they were for anything except breakfast!

I am not a nap taker, they make me feel more tired. The only time I usually nap is if I’m sick.

I almost always have my hair in a pony tail or bun, but I have to have it pulled back for work. I’d say between work and working out my hair is pulled back like 90% of the week.

Today is 4 recovery miles :)

Love the picture of Brooke and the rings! She will
Be at the Olympics in a couple of years ;)
I am not a ponytail person. More wild curly hair instead.
My favourite crepe is with chestnut paste and whipped cream!

Reply

I was in Paris when I was 16 (which makes me sound worldly, but really it is the only time I have been out of the country) and we got nutella creeps everyday from this stand outside our hotel. I think I’d like to go back and have one.

I’m a ponytail girl as well. My mom always is telling me Iook prettier with my hair up than having it hang in my face. :)

Reply

I think the only time I had crepes was at a friends house last years for easter…I did like them!

Reply

Brooke’s pigtails are killer! She is going to break SO many hearts.

I love naps when I have the time to take them, unfortunately that isnt too often. And my hair always starts out nice and down, but by the end of the day it is ALWAYS ina pony tail!

Reply

Aww that picture is too cute of you and Brooke, bangs looking the same!

There is a crepe place in Los Gatos called Sweet Pea’s that is sooooo so so so good. It’s the best place to go before/after hiking around the Los Gatos Creek Trail! You should check it out :)
