Yesterday was spent getting things ready to go to St. George, Utah for the She Runs Retreat! I am giving a presentation about training for different distances and so I have been using all of my brain power to do that so don’t expect much out of this post;)
Guess who I get to hang out with this weekend!?!?!
My mom is driving down to the retreat. We are going to have quite the party. The three generations (mom, me and Brooke) will stay up late every night eating chocolate and watching I Love Lucy at the hotel. I haven’t seen her since Dec. 20th, 2012 which is approximately 2 months too long.
I had a delicious snack of toast with laughing cow, an apple and greek yogurt.
Billy got home and hung with B$ Jr. while I went and ran some errands.
And when I got back Billy had dinner almost ready. I really have a thing for steak. And bread. And green beans.
I just wanted a nice picture with Brooke and my dinner but she disobeyed me and did everything she could to steal my bread. I love her a whole lot but I am not willing to share my bread.

New HRG BABY POST!!!!
———————————————
When was the last time you hung out with your mom?
Who is running today?!? How far?
Favorite way to get your protein in lately?
Do you cut your apples up or eat it whole?
-I cut it up about 90% of the time. Having braces for 5 years got me in the habit of doing that.

Sarah @PickyRunner
Oh man steak bread and green beans is my all time favorite meal. Aka what I eat almost every single night haha I’m so excited that you get to see your mom! I thought it had been a long time since I’ve seen mine and it’s only been exactly one month from today. I’m a baby, what can I say? I think Brooke feels like she’s ready to start eating real people food or something. She’s certainly been trying lately!
Elizabeth @ My Neon Running Shoes
I saw the title of this post and I was sure you were going to say ME ;-) Your mom probably deserves a little more of you and Brooke’s time though I guess… Haha just kidding but I am excited! Luckily I get to see my mom weekly since they only live an hour away! Favorite way to getprotein lately has been protein powder added in smoothies, cottage cheese, and also those yogurts you pictured! I love the vanilla and definitely want to try some more flavors!
Jackie
I have been trying to eat a lot more greek yogurt lately for more protein plus calcium since I got a stress fracture in my foot!
Monica L
Brooke is starting to get madder and madder about not getting your food! I have not hung out with mom since Thanksgiving :( I am currently on a one month (forced) rest for a bum ITB bad, meanwhile my first 1/2 marathon is quickly approaching-not a happy camper. Steak is by far my favorite protein. That picture is making me salivate, I would actually eat that whole plate right now for breakfast! I think I cut my apples up 99% of the time. (Four years in braces)
Nicole@TheKidlessKronicles
Protein is usually chicken or eggs. Not sure if I will run today. I saw my Mom on Superbowl Sunday.
I eat my apples whole.
The Kidless Kronicles
Chelsea @ LittleOneRuns
running tomorrow!! weights today!!! last time i hung with my mom was a week ago :) favorite way to get my protein is always anything beef! but i only have chicken and eggs, i’ll settle lol i cut it up! like once a year i’ll eat it whole, but it feels weird.
Beth @ Running with the Sunrise
It’s really nice that your mom will be able to drive over and see you. I’m sure the three of you will have a great time. Good luck with your presentation! I really love the skinny green beans, too. I think I probably have some in my freezer at all times. I always cut up my apples, too–it seems easier to eat them that way than working to eat around the core. Today my plan is to do an 11-12 mile medium-long run. :)
Kaitlyn - @runkaitrun
i would have to say that eggs are my favorite form of protein!
and i almost always cut up my apples and dip them in peanut butter!
Kattrina
I love that picture of Brooke trying to steal your bread!
I’m so happy you get to see your mom! I haven’t seen my mom since Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I’m not sure when I’ll see her next. She lives far away and there are no cheap flights to Burlington, VT. Hopefully I won’t have to wait until Christmas to see her again – I’d be so sad.
No running today. Boo. I haven’t run in forever. I have class after work so there is no time. One of these days I’ll get a nice run in. I hope it’s soon. Like tomorrow.
I’m eating a lot of greek yogurt, peanut butter, and quinoa these days. And cheese. Getting protein isn’t usually a big problem for me!
Hope you have a great day!
Katherine
That last photo is to die for. :p

Kim@hungryhealthygirl
That last picture is so cute! I probably cut my apples into slices 90% of the time too. It’s just so much easier. Have a super fun weekend with your mom!
Cori @ olive to run
I ran 10 miles before work this morning. After my runs I sneak in my protein by making a protein shake in the morning with Muscle Milk Chocolate and banana. As for my apple(s) a day, I eat them whole when I’m at work but I’ll cut them up when I’m at home. Strange, I know.
Have SO much fun with your mom!!
Meagan
Haha Brooke’s face looks like “But Mama, I want the bread!”. How cool that y’all will have 3 generations at the retreat! I almost always cut my apples… they’re just easier to eat in slices.
[email protected]
I get to see my mom all the time, she lives an hour away. I always eat my apple whole, I like it better sliced but I’m too lazy to take the time to cut it!
Emma @ Culturecopia
Haha Brooke is definitely looking to try real people food!! I just finished 11 km… was supposed to be 19 but I forgot to budget time to shower before going back to school this afternoon… oops – I’ll try again on the weekend!! That retreat will be amazing!
Blogging Runner
Your picture of Brooke are adorable, she gets cuter every single day! Enjoy your time with your mom!
Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad
I only see my mom about once per year. I saw her in the beginning of January for my sisters wedding. I’m going to try and make it back there for either Thanksgiving or Christmas this year. I wish I could visit more often.
Rachel @ Undercover Diva: A Sitcom
I haven’t hung out with my mom since the beginning of January :( Miss her tons and tons!! I ran today…a 2-mile pace run (too short of a distance, but that’s what the training plan called for) but I ran an 8:30 average, which is speedy for me! My favorite way to get my protein is through greek yogurt and peanut butter..sometimes separate, sometimes together, always delicious. And I eat apples sliced in half, so I guess I’m the middle part..partially sliced, partially whole, but for some reason it’s easier for me to eat the apples this way.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats
Brooke clearly knows what’s up with the whole real food thing. And I love that you all watch I love Lucy! I used to watch that every night on Nick at Night!
Debbie @ Deb Runs
My friend and I just finished our six mile run; and boy is it blustery here in Virginia! For protein I love Greek yogurt, and I also love wrapping lettuce and deli turkey around a scallion for a yummy snack. I can’t even begin to remember the last time I ate an apple that wasn’t sliced, and I eat an apple almost every day. Enjoy your weekend!
Deana
I got to see my mom on Saturday for some time – typically see my parents once a week or so.
I hope to get a run in sometime today – fighting a cold, so guessing it isn’t going to be a good run. But a run none the less.
I slice my apples now – but my dad taught me how to split an apple in half when I was younger. I loved showing people I could split an apple in high school / college. :)
Allison
I always cut up my apples. Always. It’s a bad day if I can’t do that. Yay for hanging out with your mom! My mom and I spent some quality time together last night eating cheesecake and watching Ellen. A solid night.
Bridget @ Type A-Frame Personality
Congrats on the new jobs!! So happy for you. Have a great weekend at the retreat with B$Jr and your mom!
Bri
I’m at my parents’ house right now! I love being here & love the fact that they spoil both Ella & I when we’re here. Nothing better than mom lovin’
Dani @ Run Daniella Run
I am glad you will be able to spend time with your mom, I bet you are missing her so much. When you have a new baby, living in a new town and your hubby is pretty busy with law school I bet it can get a little lonely sometimes and you just need your mom. Enjoy your weekend! That sounds like an awesome retreat! I decided this week that I am going my first blog conference so I am pretty excited about that!
Katie @ running4cupcakes
No running for me today – teaching body pump tonight. I would always like to eat my apple cut up, but sometimes have to eat it whole if I can’t!
Lindsey
On Monday, it was Family Day where I live so we all went for ice cream.
Greek yogurt or Vega protein shakes are my favorite ways to get my protein in, oh and egss!
I prefer to eat them cut up for sure. I used to never eat apples unless they were cut up! lol
Amy @ Writing While Running
My mom used to always cut our apples when I was a kid and I always wanted to eat them whole (it felt like something I wasn’t allowed to do!). So most of the time I eat them whole now. But if they are already cut for me, I do like apple slices.
Karen @ Runner Girl Eats
I cut up my apples 100% of the time thanks to years of braces. And I got to see my mom this weekend and it was fantastic. I’m always trying to convince her to move closer so I can see her everyday :)
Kim
I am so sad I am not going to She Runs this weekend! I went last year in St. George and had a blast and went to thr Midway event, but ended up as more of a volunteer! Those ladies are so lucky to get to hear you speak!! Have a blast!!
Natalie @ Free Range Human
I always cut up my apples because I’m usually eating them in yogurt or oatmeal. On the trail, it’s whole all the way. I get to hang out with my mom this weekend as well!!
Lauren @ Eat Like An Elephant
Today’s my off day! (Only because it’s such a busy day, I had to move things around this week).
Logan @ Mountains and Miles
Oh man, I miss my Mom! Her and my Dad were her in early January for a late-Christmas celebration with the family.
I did 6 miles today after biking 10 miles to work.
I chop my apples up only if I am eating them with cheese or peanut butter, otherwise I just bite right in! I’ve been getting protein in lately by eating greek yogurt (I love the Light and Fit Greek that you had as a snack! – I have like a bajillion in my fridge right now!), PB2 (powdered peanuts that you can mix with water to make less fatty peanut butter), and protein powder in my smoothies. We only eat meat in two dinners a week, so we’ve been making sure to get it in lots of other places, too.
Julia @ Smile More Miles
I am going to attempt a speed workout today and I am not a speed person. Wish me luck!
Peanut Butter is my favorite way to get protein.
I usually eat my apples unless I am spreading them with peanut butter (or caramel).
Kari @ Running Ricig
I saw my mom at church on Sunday, does that count? I also dropped off cinnamon rolls at my parents’ house yesterday, but we haven’t hung out in a little while.
I usually use an apple slicer on my apples. It’s really the way to go.
Hope you have fun this weekend! Good luck on your presentation!
Tammy
That is the best pic ever…bread stealing baby. :)
Lauren
So fun that your mom is coming! I haven’t seen my mom in so long since moving to Chicago! Makes me miss her. :( Have a blast girl!
Andrea @ mainerunnergirl
I’m visiting my mom right now!!! :) I ran 12 this morning.
Ashlee
BRooke just might be the cutest baby I’ve ever seen! Seriously! And I am definitely not sharing my bread either ;-)
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud!
I havent gotten to see my mom since Sept. But it is lucky if I get to see them once a year lately!
For protein, I have been eating a ton of chicken and fish lately! YUM!
and so jealous of your apples. I hate being allergic to them!
Rachel @ RachelRuns29.11
I love my mom too:) You’ve inspired me to take her out on a lunch date today!
I don’t eat meat and lately I’ve been getting my protein from dark greens in smoothies. So good and it’s still pretty warm here in Florida so a cold smoothie in February is a good thing:)
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Awwr have an awesome time with your mom! I’m so, SO thankful that I live close to my parents because it means I get to see them pretty much whenever I want… Last time I hung out with my mom was actually on Monday when I went over for dinner, movies, and mother-daughter chat time. And I’m definitely with you on slicing apples… sometimes I don’t even slice the whole thing up at once but sit there with a whole apple and knife and just slice off a piece, eat it, and repeat. Biting into a whole one kind of skeeves me out…
TorontoRunner
you and your momma and so cute. Very happy for you to get to hang out together! I see my parents quite a lot lately and really, really love it!
I don’t think I’ve ever cut up my apples on purpose!
Lyric
Last time I hung out with my mom was yesterday at a study date;) I usually am to hungry to cut up my apples unless I have a plan to dip them in PB. I love getting protein from quinoa and greek yogurt obviously.
Brittany
hahaha that last photo is FANTASTIC!
katye
your momma’s beautiful!
Carolyn
Love the pictures, as always – and I love St. George. Hubby and I are originally from Las Vegas, so we spent a lot of time there back in the day when we golfed all the time. Today is a strength training day, but I’ll probably do a mile on the treadmill at the gym before Power Cut class just to warm up a bit. My mom passed away years ago, and it makes me happy to see the picture of you with yours. I’ll bet she’s gaga over Brooke :-)
Therese
I haven’t seen my daughter since Christmas-she live 2 1/2 hours away-hope to see her this weekend. I can’t stop eating red meat lately. I don’t know why that is, but steak and hamburger have been my go to protein lately. I crave it
kendra @ http://www.kennygump.com/
awe, lucky. i haven’t seen my mom since early november. sure do miss that lady. i will attempt somewhere between 6-8 miles today. we’ll see i felt a blister coming on yesterday. boo. and there are so many great ways to get protein in. probably cottage cheese, greek yogurt, kidney beans and p. powder. good luck this weekend and have fun:)
natalie @ southern fit foodie
I hung out with my mom allllll weekend because I was helping my parents move. It was good to spend some late late late nights together (organizing the new pantry – party hard).
I love protein – fish is probably my favorite way to get it in, but I also eat a lot of Greek yogurt. Lately, my favorite snack has been coconut butter melted with a tiny bit of raw honey and then mixed with Greek yogurt. It tastes like frosting.
Natalie @ Twenty-Something Talk
Love the HRG baby post. She seems like such a sweet and curious baby!
I’ve got the cowtown half marathon this weekend, so today is a rest day for me. I’ll probably get in some easy time on the elliptical just to keep my legs loosened up.
Lately I’m getting most of my protein from eggs, greek yogurt, and those yummy odwalla chocolate protein drinks. They’re my new fave!
Heidi
Yay for mommy time! Doesn’t having a baby make you realize how much your own mom loves you on such a deeper level? Amazing.
Enjoy!! :)
Amanda
My mom was just here this weekend and left yesterday…I miss her already
Sharisse
Prefer to cut apple up b/c I’m a neat freak! I love how determined Brooke looks trying to steal your bread!
Amy N.
Have fun with your Mom this weekend! I wish I could go to the retreat and hear your amazing presentation.
I’m a little envious of your Laughing Cow Cheese. We are out at the moment and I want some super bad.
MILF Runner
I am so envious of how close you and your mom are. Cherish that and have a blast :)
No running for me at the moment. Super messed up injury that we’re still sorting out how to handle :(
Favorite way to get protein right now – fish and black beans with brown rice and salsa (avocado when I find a good one). It’s like a fish taco without the shell.
Annette@FitnessPerks
I love bread too!!
I haven’t seen my mom since end of November–so I can’t wait to see her in less than a month for a ski trip!!
Amanda @ Romancing the Unusual
I got to hang out with my mom last weekend. She only lives a couple of hours away so I am lucky I can make the trip pretty often. You will have so much fun with yours this weekend! :)
Wendy @ New Moms Talk
Wishing you the best time in St. George with your Mom and daughter!
We’re trekking to St. George, too, in early May so our little girl can meet the hub’s grandmother. If all goes well, we might do a little St. George 70.3 volunteering, too, as it’s the same weekend!
michelle kim
I’ve been experimenting and making pancakes and cupcakes and weird souffle things with my protein powder. It’s been fun and delicious.
Brooke resembles Billy a lot in that picture where they’re sitting together on the couch!
Kay
Haha it’s only a matter of time before she is really grabbing and eating your food, watch out!!
Have a safe trip!
Nikki @ run+breathe+be
Oohh I have an answer to all of the questions today!
Last time I saw my mom was on my birthday (Feb 1st). We’re so due for a lunch date!
I plan to run 3.5 – 4 miles when I get home from work tonight.
My favorite way to get protein lately has been Luna Protein Bars or TJ’s Sweet, Salty, & Tart trail mix. I’m starting to venture into the Naked juices and liking it.
I like to cut my apples up and spread a little peanut butter on the slices.
Enjoy the retreat!
Sarah
I hung out with my mom on Sunday and we went to see Identity Theif at the movies! Also, cut-up apples are the best. I don’t know why, but I feel like they multiply in size when you use the slicer. I’m doing speedwork tonight, but only about 4ish miles.
Rachelle
Oh my goodness 4 days without seeing a picture of Brooke and look at how stinking dang cute she has gotten! Oh wait she was always cute but wow do I love that picture of her and Billy.
I know you will be busy this weekend but I will be in St.g and would love to see your face if we can make it happen. :):)
Mallory @ ifgravityhappens
Ooo have fun this weekend!!! There’s nothing better than girl time spent with mom! I crack up everytime I read you talk about Brooke as B$ Jr
Dagmar
Brooke is becoming cuter and cuter the older she gets! She is so pretty! I want one, too! :-)
I cut up apples as well – I had braces for three years, too.
Sonia the Mexigarian
Brooke gets me everytime. she is darn cute :)though i am the same way. i don’t share my bread.
Running for 1/2 hour today before hitting up Zumba. planning a 3-4 mile run tomorrow morning and 9 miles on Sunday. eeep.
I cut up my apples 95% of the time since I bit into one and found the end of a small worm. GAG. Cutting it up makes it fun to eat too :)
Favorite protein is beans right now. made a big pot of Mexican beans and have just been eating it as soup.
Last time I spent time with my mom was Sunday when I visited the family. Going to see her today as well.
Have fun at the retreat and with your mom!!
Allison
Hanging out with my mom this weekend, yahoo!
Brooke is the cutest thing I have ever seen!!
Megan
Love that picture of brooke, so much determination to get that bread. My puppy (I know not the same as a child, but she is my baby!) is like that with um everything. Oh you are cooking? Let me join! Oh you are eating? Not on my time, gimme that! I last saw my parents on… Dec 30th! Way too long. I think I am going to visit them next month though! Andddd I ran 2 miles today. Was a warm up for some weight slinging!
Brooke @ Running In Heels
Brooke looks so determined to snatch that bread! Love her!
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian
Congrats on your amazing new jobs! How awesome that you’ll be working at Google!
Colleen
Congrats on your jobs!!! I haven’t seen my mom in 2 months (too long) as well! Oh, six years in braces = cut up apples and (still) no gum!
Samantha
It’s exciting you get to see your mom. It seems like she was on your blog like everyday when you still lived in Utah. I haven’t seen my mom in about three weeks, since I came back to college. I miss her :(
I got in 5 miles this morning which was nice because usually I am trying to fit it in my runs at night or in the afternoon.
And of course I cut up apples…what a silly question. ;)
Libby
I will run tonight on a treadmill, about 3 miles.
I just saw my mom this past weekend but I am looking forward to hanging out with her in Disney this weekend.
I cut apples because I LOVE to have them with peanut butter!
Alyssa
Woohoo! Can’t wait for the She Runs Retreat! My friend and I leave early tomorrow morning to start the trek. Hopefully the weather cooperates! Can’t wait to party!
I last saw my mom in January for our birthday (yes we share a birthday! how lucky am I!). I’ll probably go home next for my sister’s birthday in March.
I definitely cut my apples. I just don’t want to eat it if I have to bite it off. I can’t explain it.
Peachylau
My mum came to visit two weeks ago, it was lovely :)
Enjoy your week-end! Can your mum give us her lasagne recipe? hehe
Shari
I Love Lucy will forever be my favorite show. There’s just something so special about it. What’s your favorite episode?!
Losing Lindy
aw..I would want the bread too
Naomi
Haha I love that picture of you and Brooke! Too cute :)
