I am becoming an afternoon runner.

I never thought it was possible but I am now enjoying running a little later in the day.  I guess afternoon is an exaggeration but 11 a.m. feels really good to get out and back in the old days my body didn’t know how to run past 8 a.m.

I took Brooke out for a few miles and brought her back to Billy and then I finished off my 12 miler with an overall 7:49 pace.  I am happy about that because it felt pretty comfortable the whole time and I am basing it all on the fact that I took a rest day on Friday.

Rest days = My run feels amazing the next day and I get injured less often.  I guess that just means i need more mornings where I stay in pajamas and eat breakfast burritos while watching tv.   If you make me.

I was going to wear my compression socks but then I remembered that I had worn them all week + I haven’t done laundry  + my calves sweat a lot = that would just be wrong to wear them again.   I need a washer and dryer or more compression socks or my mom to live closer.

I got home and ate a turkey sandwich and then it was off to Trader Joe’s (please note that I haven’t been there for 3.6 weeks, that isn’t okay) to get some pizza dough but when I walked past these I was forced to get them.  They are really good and not quite as vinegary as other Salt and Vinegar chips.

I am into this thing lately where if I have the choice I will ALWAYS choose bbq chicken (with enough chicken to cover the entire thing) pizza.   Round one:

Another place that I haven’t been in 3.6 weeks:

Our friend invited us over to play games and eat cookies.  I really can’t think of a better way to spend your Saturday night.

I brought the cookies that got me through my pregnancy when I didn’t like chocolate (the hardest part about my pregnancy) but needed cookies in my life.  I think I ate one a day for the entire 40 weeks.  Recipe HERE.

It may look like a 5 year old drew these pictures but I was actually the artist.  I am proud of my sailboat with the parasailing guy behind.

Brooke fell asleep while we were playing and woke up with this awesome new hair style.

I think Brooke was more excited about the chips than you were! That is a rockin pace on the 12 milers. I actually always feel awful the day after a rest day but then the day after THAT I feel like the bomb.com. So I guess it works out. I like going around 11. After that, I start losing my motivation but I also hate dragging my butt out of the house in the morning. Runner probs.

My long run was 14 miles at a steady state pace…I was exhausted all afternoon.

I’m a mid morning runner in the winter time (super early in the summer) and I love it! I don’t see the point of waking up at 7 am to freeze for 14 miles when you can run later with a little less freeze ;)

Reply

Yay! That’s a seriously awesome run!!!!! I prefer taking a rest day before my long run – I feel much stronger the next day!!
This week was an easy week so only did 6 yesterday (but made it a speedy – for me – 6 miler. Today is supposed to be over 50 so I’m hoping for a longish run!
Definitely early AM…there’s no way I can get a good run in with the two little ones during the day! Ha
Chocolate chip please!

Reply

I have been the same way with morning workouts…well, forever, but I am hoping to get out today around 11 after church.
5 miles will be the longest I have run since JULY thanks to a strss fracture, wohoo!

Brooke’s giggly little face in the jogging stoller is too cute!

After seeing a pic of snickerdoodles on Instagram, I kinda NEED some in my life :)!

My long run was a 16 miler yesterday morning. It actually felt pretty good. I was surprised waking up this morning and feeling how sore I am. I hope that lessens a bit by tomorrow. I ran the 16 miles on still sore legs from a kickboxing class I went to a couple days before which is probably why I feel this way now. If I had my way I’d get up and run around 7 or 8 am. I enjoy running first thing in the morning but when you work at 7:30am that means running at 4:30 am. I hate that. Too bad I can’t just quit my job!

Reply

LOL I am lovin your drawing!

I’ve always wished I was more of a morning runner, but my legs just do not know what’s goin on at that time of day..definitely more of an afternoon/night runner!

Your 12 miles are super motivating me today!! I want to do 10+, but it’s been a rough time with running lately!

Reply

My “long” runs are only 4 miles long-right now. But Saturday morning I did a 5K time trial as the first step in training for my FIRST 1/2 in May. I like to get up and get my run over with, but I don’t mind running later either. I’ve never been to Trader Joe’s-isn’t that sad? I would love a choc chip cookie straight from oven-right now please! Every picture of Brooke makes me smile!

Reply

I would love to have a chocolate chip walnut cookie! I’m heading out to do 6 miles, which qualifies for a long run for me. We’re headed to Trader Joe’s later, so I might have to test out those chips!

Reply

Im loving your sunglasses where might I snag a pair of those?

Reply

I ran 11 miles yesterday on the treadmill while the baby took a nap! I love your best ever chocolate chip cookies- they really are the best ever!

Reply

I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies last night since some friends were coming over–they turned out really well!
I’d planned to do a longer run today, but I just ate a big bowl of cereal (not good running fuel for me…hello, water belly) so we’ll see how it goes!

I love working out/running mid to late morning the best. That way I can sleep in a bit, eat breakfast and let it digest, and take my time to get out the door. Then I come right back in time for a big lunch!
I’m honestly not much of a chip person, but I DO love salt & vinegar chips! Those things are soooo addicting.
I would go for a snicker doodle from Paradise Bakery… those are my fav!

Reply

Brooke is rockin that hairstyle ;)

My long run was swimming plus biking. Boo! I hope to be running again soon.

Reply

I am totally an evening runner. Not sure if it is because I often don’t have the choice, but an earlier run is so much harder to get into, it seems.

Haven’t been to TJs in well over a yr, so I am no help :( I do remember loving their chocolate covered – PB filled pretzels. *Least healthy item at TJ’s??

If I could have a cookie right this second – my homemade sugar cookie would be it. But it is normally a toss up of Chocolate Chip or sugar for me. LOVE them!

Reply

Two great items from Costco and Trader Joe’s, I know you’ll appreciate, are TJ’s roasted veggie lasagna and Costco’s grilled chicken & mozzarella ravioli. I’m blogging about both today, here. http://www.hungryhealthygirl.com/2013/01/13/when-you-just-dont-feel-like-cooking/
Any cookie right now….well your’s look pretty darn great, so I’ll try one! ;)

I love baby hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

I love night runs but they are a slower pace- I’m not a morning person at all (night shift girl!) Heading to bed now after working all night but I’d take a bag of Double Stuffed Oreos! Only ran Friday afternoon before work- 3 miles with my dog :)

I’m interested in hearing which shoes you wear on your daily runs and how you decide :)

We don’t have Trader Joe’s in Colorado but I’m visiting my in laws this weekend and going to Arizona soon where they do have it so I’m thinking you need to compile a list of must trys one of these days. :-D

Reply

I’m so sad I don’t have Trader Joes down here! No Costco either, I get really sad when I hear about your grocery shopping trips.

If I get to run, it has to be a night after the babies are down, on my treadmill.

Reply

The Cape Cod Kettle Cooked Salt and Vinegar chips are REALLY good.

I didn’t get to run at all this weekend. My foot has been bothering me plus my daughter has the flu. Obviously, I can’t bring her to somebody’s house while I go run. It’s for the best though. Sometimes you just need a mom and daughter weekend in:-)

If I could have a cookie I’d do an Oatmeal cookie with Toffee bits:-)

Reply

I’m all about the BBQ chicken pizza too. I am obsessed with the Cookie Butter from Trader Joe’s! So good!

Reply

I LOVE her smile so so so much! It ALWAYS makes me smile :D
I’m so glad your run went well & I totally agree- love rest days because the next workout is always awesome. Today is a rest day for me….so Monday’s run should be great- I think I’ll be attempting G’s longest run in the stroller tomorrow. We shall see. Hope you enjoy your Sunday- YAY 49ers! :) Thanks again for being my good luck charm last night. Love ya! Xo

My long run for the week was 4 miles. I am slowly trying to increase my mileage. It was probably the best feeling run I have had in a long time. =) Glad your long run was good.

I am horrible at drawing for pictionary! It makes me sweat! I always love bangs friend’s style.

Reply

great job & pace on your 12 miler Janae!!! :) :)

I’m counting yesterday’s race a solid 13 mi tempo for Surf City in a few weeks. :)

I bought a spaghetti squash & spinach, kale greek yogurt dip. The spaghetti squash was so fun to make & eat! I made it w/ground turkey & bruchetta. My lil’ one loved it too! :) luv ya sweetie & have a blessed day today!! xo

Reply

i like late morning runs too. gives me a chance to eat something before i head out and for my legs to wake a bit. i’m always really stiff in the morning hours.

try the bbq chips too, those are my favorite. i like those chips because they are crunchier than other brands.

Reply

Mmm now I want a sugar cookie the size if my head from Harmon’s! Great job on your run! My long run was only 5 miles but I’ll take it:)

Reply

I am really liking my 11am runs on Friday. But usually I am an early morning runner. Those cookies look great but I’d still add chocolate chips ;)

Reply

I am so jealous of you Americans who have Trader Joes in your area! It hasn’t come to Canada yet.. maybe one day? Brooke’s hair made me giggle.

Reply

I’m hoping!! If you are in Ontario, there is one in Rochester….

Reply

Ohhh Trader Joes! I FINALLY got to go to one this summer when I was in Temecula! Love it! Being in Canada, we have zero Trader Joes – the nearest one being in Rochester (4 hrs away for me). I tried a bunch of foods in the summer – love the yoghurt and popsicles – but the prepared food looked delish!

Good news is that my parents are going to be really close to a TJ’s on their vacation to Florida – any products that you think I should tell them to pick up?

So Old Navy has a jacket in their Active line that looks just like that purple one you are wearing in your pic & every time I see it, I want to get it. It is so cute. Plus, I could dress like your twin which would totally be NORMAL and cool ;)

Awesome job on your run. I have always been a 5 or 6AM runner. But these last few weeks I have been running around 11AM and it is amazing. When my alarm goes off at 6 I have been feeling nauseous and so I talk myself out of running (no. I am not prego, but I think I just find reasons to sleep in instead! Ha!) Yesterday I went to Crossfit with Ash and then went to my gym to run. I had to wait for a treadmill (lame) and then I ran 11 miles. I threw some hills in there and sprinted the last mile. It fel good.

My chocoolate and butterscotch chip cookies are my fave. I have a hard time stopping at like 5 when I make those.

You need to try Trader Joes dark chocolate and sea salt covered almonds. Oh they are heavenly. Have a great day Janae!!

Reply

I’m glad your run went well! I’m definitely more of a morning runner, I love knowing I’ve got it done and it’s not hanging over me. And I’d want an oatmeal raisin cookie!

Reply

Only ran 4 on Sat.
No to the chips. But I try to avoid all chips.
I prefer to run in the morning and that has changed in the past 18 months or so.
I would take any cookie with PB in it right now.

I like the chocolate covered acai powerberries from trader joes, really good

Brooke’s hair is just the cutest thing. I’m glad the run was good! I never think I can workout in the afternoon, but when I do it’s never too bad. I just prefer to always get it done in the morning. I feel like I have to force myself more later in the day, because I’m scared I’ll miss out on something.

My long run was yesterday and was 8 miles. Felt on, been having trouble with the inside, back of my knee. I think it is tendonitis?? Anybody have issues??

The closest TJs is hour and a half away, but I go every time I can!!!! absolutely love the cookie butter!!! horseradish hummus!!! quinoa and black bean chips!!! shall I go on!!!

My babies are 18 & 19, I love seeing the pictures of yours!! Beautiful!!

Reply

If I were a cheerleader, I would be on team Salt And Vinegar Potato Chips. I really don’t think any other potato chips are worth the nutritional sacrifice. But S&V? HECK YES. However, I try to hunt down the vinegar-iest ones possible. Any suggestions on that front?

First thing in the morning is the best time for me to run. Otherwise, I worry about having/making/being robbed of the time for it later in the day. Or, if it’s speed work, I obsess and worry over hitting paces, etc.

I could absolutely go for an enormous, warm, melty chocolate chip cookie right now…

Reply

I had a really awesome 11.5 mile trail run that was really hard but really rewarding in the end. I really like running in the morning but have changed to running at night more because I have more time

Reply

My long run this weekend was also 12 miles. Felt good! Going for 16 next weekend :/

I love trader joe’s cookie butter!!!! Last time we(my sister and I) went we walked passed this HUGE stack of jars of CRUNCHY cookie butter! I was like no I’m trying to be healthy I do not need it. Alina was surprised that I had self-control….now I really want it :'(. Maybe I’ll go back…I can use the fact that trader joe’s also gives you quarters(must do laundry) as my excuse for going. :)
I’ve had trader joe’s salt and vinegar chips but I found them more vinegary then the kettle ones I usually have. hmmm.

My favorite time to run is still mornings but I find that I don’t always have the motivation to wake up before 8. I think a 9am run on a weekend works perfectly though.

As for the cookie, I’m kinda craving mint and chocolate. :)

Reply

I always run at 11 AM on the weekends – it just feels right :) My long run this weekend was only 8 miles (step down week) since I’m hacking up some pretty nice things + the bottom of my foot is hurting more than normal.

I’ve never been to Trader Joe’s although we do have them around here. Maybe I should change that?

I could go for a PB blossom cookie right this minute!

Reply

My “long run” was 2 miles! Haha – kind of not even a run. It was all I could manage and it was better than nothing.

My favorite time to run is the afternoon – like 4pm or 5pm. Life tends to get in the way, which is a drawback, but it’s when I run the best. These days I run at noon – my lunch hour at work. If I don’t get a run in then, it won’t ever happen!

I love salt and vinegar chips!

Have a great weekend!

Love the hair do!
Any kind of cookie would be great right now. I gave up cookies 11 days ago.. Missing them and all the other yummy stuff, as I have a huge sweet tooth!

Reply

I’m not running so I’ll have to answer the cookie question. I could definiiiiiitely go for a good monster cookie but with reeses pieces :)

I don’t know how you got through pregnancy without eating chocolate … The thought of chocolate being off-putting is a terrible, terrible thing.

Brooke is always so happy and her smile makes me smile. :o)

Reply

dude i LOVE trader joes pizza dough! SO GOOD! another staple from their is their frozen turkey meat balls :)

Reply

You are so speedy!! My favorite time for running is the morning…but if I get a chance to run with friends and they can only go at night( like today!) I will gladly go at night.

I love Trader Joes orange flavored craisins…and the gingerbread box mix!

Reply

Cookies and board games? Your Saturday night sounds a lot like mine, and I definitely agree that it’s a great way to spend the evening – raspberry gingersnap sandwiches were on the menu for us, and they were fabulous. And I used to be a morning worker-outer, but over the past little while my workouts have started coming later in the day and I definitely prefer it that way.

Reply

Long run was 26.2 ;-) a few days off now are a requirement. We don’t have tjs close and it’s a travesty. If I could have any cookie I choose a chocolate chip cookie doozie from great American cookie co. It’s two giant cookies with 3 inches of frosting in between… Heaven.

How did it go?!?!?!?!? I need details!!

Reply

It was pretty awesome! I went in thinking 330 because I haven’t really trained. My uncle and I started off at 8 min pace then I was antsy so left and ran 7:15 til the Half when I semi died haha and ran 740 til joe and Noah jumped in with me at mile 20. Joe told me if I didn’t pick it up I had to run home (a long way) then last mile was 640. Now I’m obsessing and want to run faster. My brain is high on endorphins and I’m not thinking clearly.

Reply

You are absolutely incredible!!! Girl!!!! I am so happy for you! That is an amazing time and you didn’t even train for it! Glad you got a ride home!

Reply

I like the idea of a 10:30 run that ends with my showering and eating lunch. Usually, I run in the afternoon and I fuel up with protein powder or some other snack.

Reply

My mouth is dying just looking at those salt and vinegar chips! I must have some!

Reply

I think I might need to make those cookies right now. Our oven is broken, so I can only make no-bake cookies.

I used to only love running in the afternoon, but now that my work schedule is flexible, I’ve been running at all different times and can’t decide what is my favorite.

Reply

I LOVE salt and vinegar chips. They are my favorite type of chip of all time. Good to hear I’m not the only one!

Reply

Brooke looks so pleased with her Salt & Vinegar chips!

I just picked up a bag of the sweet seaweed from TJ’s and it rocks! I love that they are constantly coming out with new products. Glad you had a lovely weekend hun!

What a great day! Brooke really seems to love those chips haha!

Hey Janae! Love Brooke’s new hairstyle! My long run this weekend was running the Goofy at DisneyWorld in Florida!! I woke up with a bad cold on Friday and wasn’t sure I’d make it, but I finished!! Yahoo! The race could be really fun for you try and do some day if you like Disney characters and theme parks! :). Although I have a runner’s rant I need to write up somewhere about race volunteers who say you are “almost there” at mile 18. Or who tell me I have less than 3 miles to go when I know I only have 2.2 miles left. Accuracy is important here, people!!! :) I wish I could do your trail race with you!! THAT sounds like fun.

Reply

Today called for 9miles, plus a mile walk back to my car. I love running in the mid-afternoon afternoon. It’s great in the winter, not so great for summer!

I think I need some tips from Brooke on how to rock such a hairstyle straight from a nap ;)

Reply

I love Brooke’s hair! That is hilarious!

Reply

I love how Brooke just always looks so happy! A cheerful heart is good medicine! Hmmm cookies… Last week I made these delicious choc chunk oat cookies and I wish there were still some left… And just an 8km walk for me this weekend :)

Reply

Great job on your run! My long run yesterday was 15 miles. I’ve never done that many before, so I was happy about that! My fave time to get out there is 8 or 9. That way it’s warmed up just a little bit and I can get it done, and enjoy the rest of the day. Love Brooke’s hairstyle! ;)

Reply

Hey just so you know, you aren’t the only one that wears their compression socks over and over again! I wear my at least 3 times before washing them lol No worries, sweat is sweat!

Reply

So, I HAD to share this because it was honestly the BEST part of my entire weekend and probably this week so far- I ran the farthest I have EVER ran in MY LIFE on Saturday! I ran 14.20 miles in 2 hours! My pace was pretty consistent and it was hard, but not horrible!! I was SOOOOOO happy! I am training for my first marathon and getting past the 13.1 mark was a big mental thing for me! AND I was faster at my 13.1 mark than I EVER have been in my life! SO- needless to say, my run was great! :) Thanks for asking this question! :)

Reply

Ahhhhhhhhh congrats on your incredible run an fast pace!!! You are amazing!!!

Reply

Awe!!! Thank you!!! I am so glad you responded to this! I am training by myself, so it is nice to share it with a friend who understands!

Thank you! Made my day!

Hey Janae,

I have to catch up on my hungry runner girl reading after a long weekend away. I just wanted to comment on this post and tell you that I ran my first marathon in Disney World this past Sunday and then my boyfriend asked me to marry him afterwards. How much more perfect could a day get?? :) I’m so happy and wanted to share!

Oh my goodness! Ahhhhhhhh!!!! Wow!!!! That is incredible! First marathon and engaged! Best weekend ever! I need more details!
