Brooke does not like to suck on her own thumb, she only likes to suck on mine. I realized the reason for this is that I usually have chocolate or sour patch kids remnants leftover on my fingers and Brooke likes that.
For breakfast we had french toast. The really big deal about these is that they were made with CINNAMON SWIRL bread. Sugary bread plus syrup… yes. They were actually so sweet that I was forced to eat some salty chips afterwards to even out my body. That will tell you that most human beings could not even handle this high level of sugar.
Brooke is officially ticklish.
I am trying to convince Billy to go get a job even though he spends 90 hours a week studying so that I can go train with Meb for 3 days. Maybe I will just sell my apartment to pay for it.
172 miles in 24 hours = an average pace of 8:23ish for 24 hours straight. WOW!
I think we all know my answer to the below poll but what is YOURS?
Did you have a sweet or savory breakfast? Which do you usually prefer for breakfast?
Any ultra-marathoners reading? Do you ever want to do an ultra?
-The thought is crossing my mind at least 4 times a day.

It depends? Is it windy? If it’s cold I stay outside for my long runs but if there’s a ton of wind, I run inside!!
I wouldn’t want to do an ultra. I want to get fast in my favorite distance – the half!
Jessica
My dad used to run ultramarathons and when he talks about them, I have to admit that a small part of me really wants to try it. Then I remember how slow I run and how long it would take me and I rethink that idea :)
I’m usually a savory breakfast girl (my favorite splurge at this diner near my apartment is two eggs over easy, ham steak, and a bagel), but that French toast looks delightful.
Also, Brooke is incredibly cute. I’m sure you’re hearing a lot of that, but it just had to be repeated!
Sarah @PickyRunner
I’ll run outside if it’s nice out. The moment it starts raining/windy/big snow, forget it. I’m cross training with Zumba and Yoga. That cinnamon swirl french toast looks SO GOOD! Oh my goodness did you make the bread or buy it? It looks super cinnamony :)

It is from trader joes! You have to try it!
Khushboo
I usually prefer sweet brekkies but today was an omelet with toast!
Alex @ Healthy Life Happy Wife
Love savory breakfast! My fav and go-to breakfast (or lunch or dinner) is eggs and hashbrowns. I could eat that for every meal!
Brooke
Brooke is such a cute baby! She always looks happy. And I love her name. ;)

Ok so I read that as Godiva.com and I thought it was really strange that a chocolate company would offer something like that, haha!

I just did my first ultramarathon yesterday! It was a 6 hour run and you ran as many laps (~1 mile) as you were able to/wanted to during that time. I loved it! Then today we went to a brunch buffet so I could have a sweet and savory breakfast :)
Karen @ Runner Girl Eats
I have zero interest in ever running an ultra. I do have an interest in that French toast though! I normally prefer savory breakfasts but every nie and then a sugar I reload is the perfect start to the day.
Erica
I have one speed…..slow and steady……I want totally to do an ultra!!!
Someday, maybe you need to pave the way for me girl?
TorontoRunner
Ohhhh my at 172miles like that. Wowwweee!
Below freezing temps, lately, the treadmill is my bff! I WANT to run outside though..takes the boredom away!
Katie @ msfitrunner
I can’t do sweet at breakfast! I’m all about eggs and toast:)
My husband has done a few ultramarathons – he did VT100 and VT50 a few times and attempted the leadville 100 this past summer – he will be back this coming summer to try again:)
I’m hoping to do a 50 this year! All depends on how it fits into marathon training…have a great night and Merry Christmas if I don’t have a chance to comment again before!!:)
Jill
I run outside in below freezing temps. I live in Alberta Canada where it’s usually below zero 8 months of the year haha. Today was a high of -20degrees C.
I would love to do an ultra some day but I’m still working up to the marathon distance :)
Merry Christmas!

I have done one 50k trail ultra, 7500 feet elevation and tons of fun. I have also done one 50 miler that was at a timed loop course on a flat one mile trail around a private horse ranch. I hope for many more in my future!!!
I can not say enough about my love for trails and ultras. Everything about the sport, nature, challenge, beauty and most of all the community. I am so happy to of found my way to this world. A great way to get started is to go volunteer at a race – so much fun.
Janae I really think you would love it. A great blog to pour through is Vanessaruns.com. And my favorite race director is Old Goat Runners, Steve is the best and his OG50 is legendary!!! I was supposed to try it this year but am giving birth that weekend instead. I got off easy.
Lindsay
I was reading this magazine today too…but I was in my parents pool using it as an ice bath because the temps dropped so low today in FL :)
Gina G
I love sweet oats with pb, but if someone else is doing the cooking for me….. I can’t pass up eggs or omelets!
Treadmill :)
lindsay
i’ll go with you! sell our apartment too! lets stock up on sour patches first.
Jean
For me, the answer is and will always be salt!! Totally want to run an ultra, although the 15 or so miles per week I’m currently averaging are not really conducive to running a 50k+ race…
Janice - Fitness Cheerleader
I like sweet things in the morning (I won’t admit what I eat in the am), and in answer to the poll question: I would definitely carry on with my routine, in fact I did today AND brought my 5yo on my run with me :)
Logan
I’m toying with the idea of running the North Face 50 Miler here in DC in June. I haven’t even run a marathon yet..I am crazy.

yea for a ticklish brooke!! bet her giggles sound hilarious!
i have done two 50k’s and a 6 hour…they were awesome experiences.
happy almost-christmas, janae!

I typically have trouble deciding, but over the last year or so, I have developed a major obsession with eggs and runny yolks, so savory wins 90% of the time.
Celly
Or you could get a job.
The Hungry Runner Girl
I was just kidding. Thanks for giving me and billy a good laugh:)
Jenn @ Run It My Way
Ooohhh I want to train with Meb!! He could run laps around me :)
An ultra is on my list of things to do first 2013.. That’s my big goal!! Last year was the marathon; this year the ultra!!
Jessica @ Busy Living Healthy
I really hate (not really) when I have to even out something sweet with something salty. It’s a tough life. ;) It would be soo cool to be able to train with Meb! I wish I didn’t have pharmacy school so I could work more and save up. Darn school getting in the way of me having a cool life.
RunInBoise
I plan on doing an ultra in April. I just finished up my 4th week of training today. I had a few bites of the BFs breakfast of eggs and toast and I drank a Premier Protein shake for breaky today.
Jazz
Oh man if I changed my routine for below freezing I would literally only run outside for 3 months of the year…. I do stop at -20 though and go on the treadmill..
Tonya
Below freezing temps: Stick with the normal running routine utilizing all the cool winter running gear (Yaxtrax, GTX running shoes, winter running gloves, cozy running tights, fitted cozy running shirt with built in hoody, etc.)
Today was a savory breakfast (eggs, beans, and toast). I love sweet breakfasts too. Breakfast is my favorite meal!
Never thought about doing an ultra (have done 21 marathons and that distance kicks my butt).
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Mmm your breakfast is right up my alley. I’ve tried going the savory route in the morning and it’s just not my cup of tea. The day has to start out on a sweet note or I feel all sorts of thrown off. Actually, I think that’s just my excuse to eat more sugar ;)
Kara t.
I eat eggs and often leftover green veggies for breakfast, I am weird.
However, if you are in San Diego, you HAVE to eat at Snooze (snoozeeatery.com)!! They have the naughtiest, most delicious pancakes of all time. They also have delicious French toast plus killer savory dishes. SO good!
Gina
We have Snooze in Colorado too & my BRF’s & I often find a good occasion to celebrate at Snooze! We love to share the pick 3 pancake sampler in addition to our own savory favorites!
Kara t.
Gina, I am in Colorado :)
Katie
I’m really trying to just keep to my running schedule even though it’s been hella cold lately. I go on the treadmill when I absolutely have to, but no more than 4 miles can be busted out. It’s too miserable for me.
Kathee
I dream of an ultra. In the meantime I usually have eggs for breakfast and if I want something sweet I make a kale smoothie. I think you would starve at my house.
[email protected]
French Toast or any kind of cinnamon bun is just fine!
I haven’t done an ultra but I have witnessed quite a few since we have been in Phoenix. I just saw them run the Desert Solstice in Phoenix. 100 Miles or 24 hours on a high school track. Unbelievable.

I ran my first Ultra 3 years ago & have been hooked ever since. I have yet to run further than 50 milers, although I hope to do a 100k soon.
Holly
That picture of Brooke put the biggest smile on my face :D Love you girls!
shelly
It doesn’t get that cold here, but I would hit up the tm
Whitney
If it’s windy, I hop on the treadmill. If not, I get out there and run later in the day! :)
