I have no explanation for why my face looks like a lightbulb in this picture but it happened.   Brooke was boring for both of our flights yesterday and decided to sleep the entire time.  Both flights were empty and so we had the row to ourselves and I just sat and read my Chrissie Wellington book while eating pretzels and peanuts.

IMG 6734

We were finally all reunited and she definitely remembered how they are best friends.

IMG 6745

The three of us hung out at home for a few hours and then I made Billy come along with me on my mission to find the best perfume in the world.  I think we found a winner but I am still thinking about it..  Sephora has an awesome program that asks you a bunch of questions on the computer to help you find your style.

IMG 6748

Bangs Friend must have known that we had zero food at home and that I had forgotten how to cook after having my mom cook all of my meals for me over the last three weeks and had us over for dinner last night.  I missed them (and their cooking) very much.  We had cheeseburgers, carrots, potato salad (I had 4ths of that because it was so good) and chips.

IMG 6756

Mentos for dessert.  If you haven’t tried these you need to but make sure to never try the mint kind because those ones are gross.  We couldn’t stay for long because Billy has an EIGHT HOUR FINAL today… I know, crazy.

IMG 6757

My apartment now smells like a Christmas forest.  We bought a tree and so far we have decorated it with 2 of our ornaments and a string.

DSC 5064

I have to get your personal opinion about this because we had a debate about this for at least 30 minutes last night:

IMG 6754

Which planks are harder?  In push-up position or on your elbows?  PS Bangs did her plank for 4 minutes yesterday?!?! I last a full 20 seconds.

IMG 6755

I AM RUNNING ON MY TREADMILL TODAY, I have missed her dearly.

Which plank is harder?  Do you do planks often?  How long can you hold a plank.. brag about yourself:)

What kind of perfume/smell good body spray do you wear?  Do you ever shop at Sephora?

Is your tree up yet?

I just finished an awesome 6 mile run, faster than my 10k race pace! Enjoy your treadmill time :D So glad you’re cute little family is reunited.

My tree is up at home but I don’t get to see it until I’m reunited with my family on Christmas Eve after being away since August!

I love Sephora’s makeup although I barely own any – I’m not much of a perfume gal though. And I would say a plank is more difficult in push up position… I can hold it for about a minute and a half, max :P

Reply

Push-up position is way harder. My little baby arms just can’t do very long, however my elbows of steel can go forever.

Also, is a tree supposed to be decorated more? It looks beautiful

Happy you made it home safely!!!!

Haha, I always try to figure out which way to do planks is harder. I think it just depends on what you are used to doing–I used to do all my planks on my elbows–so when I switched to my hands it was really hard–now I try to do it on my elbows and it seems way harder. Enjoy the TM run…and good luck to Billy on his 8 hour final! That is insane.

Reply

I think on your elbows is harder.
We put our tree up day after Thanksgiving. We switched to a fake tree a few years ago when my aunt awoke to her entire living room covered in spider webs. They were in the tree. I can never go back to real now. Although, I do miss the smell!

Reply

Dunno about right now but a year ago I could hold an elbow plank for 5 minutes. before you say I am superwoman, the reward was an amazing grade in sports for uni. I’ve always thought planks were a mind over matter thing :D

Reply

Glad you made it home safely!

I think push up plank is harder. My shoulders always start hurting! My longest plank was last summer & I did 3:30 something. I was doing planks yesterday at the end of a 2 hour workout & I about died! So good though!

I’m not a perfume wearer. I do wear a Gap spray that’s i
A body spray or something. Smells so good!

So glad you made it home safe and sound! :)

Reply

Yay so glad you 3 are back together!!! GOOD LUCK on your exam today Billy! I think forearm planks are way harder and can hold push-up position plank for close to 5 mins… But forearm I can only last about 2 mins max. Have a great TM run today:-)

Reply

have fun reuniting with your treadmaill today, janae!
glad you had a boring trip home…that is better than *exciting!*
i do planks on my elbows, have never tried hands…i’ll give that a try tomorrow!
sending positive vibes to billy for that exam!!

Reply

Oh my gosh, that little face looking up at Billy. It kills me.

You know what else kills me? Forearm planks. I can hang out in plank position for a while on my hands, but down on my elbows I’m shaking within a minute.

Welcome back home!

Reply

I prefer the Aussie plank style ;) The mechanical engineer in me says full arms would be harder, but then on concrete/wood elbow you win.

Cute tree! We just got ours up on Sunday and was feeling really late to the game. But I should have waited longer- my middle son can’t keep hands off it. Thinks his figures are running and jumping in the forest while plays with it. :)

Man I miss my treadmill! Maybe today I will get a chance!

Reply

We JUST put our tree up last night. No decorations though. Needless to say I won’t be stealing your string idea ;)

So glad you are reunited again! I have no clue which plank position is harder. They both make me cry! I’m interested to hear what everyone else says.

Reply

I had to check your blog before heading to work to make sure that you guys were reunited! I love the picture of Brilly. So cute!

For me push up planks are harder – my shoulders get tired. I’ve never tried to max out my time, but it’s on my list for this evening!

I love L’Occitaine perfume. It’s very light and a little citrusy.

My tree is up, but, like yours, it isn’t quite decorated yet.

Reply

Billy must be so happy to have you and Brooke back home! How much are you loving chrissie’s book?! Did you know she officially announced her retirement a couple weeks ago? Sad.
I think elbow planks are much harder!

Reply

I think push-up planks are harder for my upper body but elbow planks are harder for my core. So I guess it depends on where I really want to feel it. But I can hold a push-up plank longer….usually.

Reply

As a former WOLS (Wife of a Law Student) I can say that finals time is the WORST. But! Then you get a whole month where they don’t have anything to do!! It’s pretty awesome.

I don’t really wear makeup. I always want to, but I’m usually rushing out the door with the kids and remember halfway to my destination I don’t have any on. I think the elbow planks are harder!

Reply

I think elbow planks are harder – I’ve never timed myself though.
I just got the Roberto Cavalli perfume and I love it.
We got a live tree for the first time ever and put it up 1 1/2 weeks ago. half of the needles have fallen off and we gave up trying to make it straight so it kind of leans to one side. The Panuts gang would be jealous.

Reply

You got a lot done since you got home!
Supposedly the pushup position planks are harder, but I don’t get it. I think on the elbows is harder and that’s the way I always do it. I did a seven minute plank one time – kind of killer. harder than running a 5k, I think;-)
We have a fake tree and still have to put it up!! ahhh!

Reply

I think the elbow plank is harder which is why I do them in the push-up position. I’m weak.
Our tree has been up since the day after Thanksgiving. It’s fake though. A new tree every year is not in our budget right now.

Reply

Gah I loooove planks! Also, I hate planks! I can probably only hold one for about 45 seconds…I should probably confirm that before putting it in writing…

I consider myself somewhat of a Christmas freak and our tree has been up since the first weekend of December. But our other pieces of decor have been up since the day after Thanksgiving.

I’m loving your string approach :)

p.s. ew to an 8 hour final! crazy!

Reply

I’m so glad you’re reunited with billy!!! That tree is precious and the sephora thing is SO cool! Good thing I’m going today after my exam…

Reply

I don’t wear perfume. It (and most everyone else’s) makes me sneeze. My friendly PSA for everyone today is to please remember that the next time you fly. The person near you may be allergic. Thank you!
Planks I do in the elbow position. At one point I was up to 3 minutes but I doubt I could do it now.
No tree yet and not sure if we will. We don’t really have anywhere to put it right now.
The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I think forearm planks are definitely harder! I am a huge fan of all fragrances by Marc Jacobs. I wear Daisy all the time, but I also have Lola stowed away for evenings. And our tree isnt up yet – we are slackers.

Reply

Aww that photo of Brooke and Billy is precious. Glad you guys are all reunited again! :) I think the plank on my elbows is harder, but I wouldn’t call either of them easy!

Reply

Glad you made it home safely! I think elbow planks are definitely harder!

Reply

I would say planks on hands are harder… but that probably has more to do with the inflamed tendons in my wrists than the plank part :-P

The picture of Billy & Brooke is so sweet!! It must be nice to be home again :) Good luck to Billy in his exam today!

Reply

Full arms for sure! I used to be able to hold on my forearms for 4 mins but not I think its about 2:30 mins.
Coach and YES I love Sephora. Buy all my makeup there.
Yup our tree went up about 3 weeks ago now, but its fake so we can do that!

Reply

Forearm planks are TOTALLY harder.

Reply

AN EIGHT HOUR FINAL!?!?! What kind of law school is this!?!?!? Haha my longest has been 4.5! That’s an entire work day! Geez. And I think straight arm planks are harder because my arms get tired before my abs!

Reply

Welcome home! I bet Billy is ecstatic to see his girls after 3 weeks.

I’ve never tried holding a plank more than a minute. Suppose I need to push myself more.

We just finished decorating our tree last night, and it’s finally put me in the Christmas mood. Now to wrap the presents and keep my children from unwrapping them for another 2 weeks. That’s going to be tricky.

I’m currently loving Dolce & Gabana Light Blue, but I hardly wear it or any perfume anymore.

Reply

I would say push-up position is so much harder. I can hold the elbow one for about a minute, but that’s as far as I get!

Reply

Planks in push up position are way harder to me!

I found my perfect perfume using the machine helper at Sephora. It is called La Vanilla and it is amazing. It is the roll on kind which I am absolutely obsessed with!!

Reply

I love Burberry perfume! And most vs body spray is good too. Sephora is far too expensive for my cheap self haha…

Reply

4 minutes?! beast mode! I change my mind all the time about which position is harder. I think it depends on the day for me? Idk…
I wear Lola by Marc Jacobs and am in love with it. It is deilcious and beautiful and also pricey (not in love with that last part)

Reply

I never think I do planks correctly, because I never feel anything in my abs/core. I need instructions LOL.

I work at Sephora, so I shop there ALL THE TIME! I love us much better than Ulta. Our little store has some of the best employees with awesome customer service.

Reply

Elbow plank=harder.
I’ve been doing the merryplanksmas challenge thus far, all on my elbows :)

Reply

I do planks a lot and always do elbow ones because my wrists get sore really easily. I think straight-arm planks are more difficult, though. My arms seem to get tired, where with elbow planks it’s just my shoulders (and core, of course).

Reply

They SAY pushup position is way harder, but I can hold that a pretty long time! I’m shaky after a minute on my elbow/forearms! I should really try these first before I lift… lol Might be able to do it longer!

Reply

I totally think on your elbows is harder, I believe its because you are closer to the ground and gravity is pulling on you harder….or maybe I just have super strong arms and I am used to the straight arm plank since I teach Pilates. I have held a plank for 5 minutes but it ended up killing my back the next day.

Reply

I think forearm planks are harder. I find my abs scream like crazy where as in full plank position I can focus on locking my elbows and really push away from the floor. They both suck… :)

Glad u made it home safe and sound. Have a good run!

Reply

The picture of Billy and Brooke is adorable! I think elbow planks are harder, my husband thinks that the push up planks are more difficult. I’m glad that we are not the only people who discuss these things.

Reply

planks with straight arms are killer! Using your elbows for planks feel easier since your weight’s spread out a bit. However, when I do straight armed planks I’m screaming bloody murder after about 30 seconds. Not fun.

Reply

I think elbow/forearm planks are harder! I love perfumes from Victorias Secret. The ‘Dream Angels- Heavenly’ is my classic favorite and since last year my favorite of theirs is the Bombshell scent.

Reply

I think planks on your elbows are way harder. I can hold a push up plank in proper form for longer than a elbow plank. I think the longest elbow plank I held was 3:30 and the longest push up plank was 5 minutes.

Reply

How long is level 2 of the shred? 20 minutes? Then that is how long I can hold a plank ;) Does it count if you are crying by the end? Gosh I hate that level.

The pic of Brilly makes my heart melt. I may have started to sing ‘reunited and it feels so good’. Have fun on your run today!

Reply

Sephora is like the bane of my existence. I can’t walk in there and not walk out with tonnes of stuff. I blame pretty packaging. But they do carry one of my favorite scents, which is Aquolina Pink Sugar. Seriously smells like cotton candy. And I’d have to say that planks on elbows are way harder. I can last a decent amount on straight arms, but bent arms just kills me… and alternating between the two is veeeeeery ouch.

Reply

I think elbows is harder, but either way will pretty much kill me. I’ve gotten to a minute and a half before nearly passing out. Today I might last 10 seconds.

Reply

Your tree is so cute! I love it. We managed to get one that was the right height but WAY too wide. It pretty much takes up our entire living room.

I rarely wear perfume, but when I do, I wear Vera Wang. So classy.

I think planks in the pushup position are harder than the ones on your elbows, then you’re only resting on one joint instead of two. It’s science!

Reply

The picture of Brooke and Billy melted my heart. The smiles on their faces were priceless! Glad you are reunited with your hubby! I never realized that about Sephora but I’ll definitely have to try it out. I have two favorites that I go back and forth with all the time, so I seldom venture out and try a new scent.

Reply

Planks are not my best…I never try to hold one longer than 30 seconds so I’m not really sure how long I can hold them!

I wear Jo Malone perfume! I have two scents: nectarine blossom and honey and blue agava and cacao. The thing about Jo Malone is your can buy several different scents and combine the fragrances so it’s like you’ve got your own unique scent! Seriously this is the best perfume I’ve ever smelled. I’ve only ever seen it sold at Nordstrom so you’ll have to look around to find it.

Reply

I don’t do planks nearly enough but I think the ones on the elbows are harder solely because they work my lower back and it hurts!

Glad you’re home safe :)

My tree has been up for awhile-I get homesick and lonely if it’s not up right after Thanksgiving

Reply

I think the elbow plank is harder, now we need to know what you guys thought :) That picture of Billy and Brooke is the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen!!! I’m so sad you are gone but hope to see you really soon :)

Reply

I think the push up plank is harder. I can last a little over 2 minutes with the on your elbow planks, but with push ups I about die after a minute.

Reply

Elbow planks are harder for me. The longest I’ve held it is for 3 minutes. I love Sephora — I have to stay away! My favourite perfume is Black Orchid by Tom Ford. Christmas tree is up and decorated. I have to or else I’m all bah humbug without it.

Reply

I think on your elbows is harder, but that’s just my opinion. That way I can last a minute maybe, in pushup position I can last about two!

i’m getting the family tree with my Mom today!

Reply

I think it depends on the muscle you are wanting work. For a better ab workout, definitely elbows, lower center of gravity. For arm/shoulder strength, the push up style. I personally tend to do mine on elbows and save push ups for yoga and regular push ups.

Reply

I’m so glad that you’re all back together…I love the picture of Billy and Brooke.

I’d have to say the push-up is harder….but I’ve never really tried it. I do some like 30 sec-1 min ones right now, but I used to be able to hold it for probably 3 min.

I wear Victoria’s Secret seduction.

We put up a wee little tree {on top of our roll top desk} so the boys would leave it alone…and I think I like it better so we might just stick with that :)

Reply

Push up plank is more difficult for me. Good luck today Billy!! Glad everyone is reunited!!

Reply

Welcome home!
We picked out a Charlie Brown type tree from my in-law’s woods :)
This isn’t one of the options, but the hardest kind of plank is when you put your feet in TRX straps. Best core workout ever! :)

Reply

I used to have mentos as a breakfast dessert after junior golf when I was younger!!
And I think elbow planks are harder…but push-up planks hurt my wrists!

Reply

I do planks every now and then but I think that the ones on your elbows are harder!! When I do them I do 3 sets and hold them for 1 minute each..4 minutes is just insanely awesome!

We put up our tree the Sunday after Thanksgiving and the house still smells amazing :) I love when I randomly get a whiff of it when I’m sitting on the couch or walk by!

I sometimes wear perfume, but honestly it kind of makes me sick to smell it on myself all day. The perfumes that I have are Juicy, Kate Spade, and Marc Jacobs…I like them all, but they are really strong!

Reply

I’ve never done a push up plank!

I love Taylor Swift’s Wonderstruck perfume and the classic Juicy perfume and Juicy Le Fleur also! (I think that ones new)

Reply

Love the picture of Billy and Brooke! I bet you and Brooke were excited to be reunited with him after three weeks away.

I am not sure which plank I think is harder. I usually do forarm planks and try to do at least one daily. The longest I have held it for is about 2:35. I have only tried the push up plank once and thought it was a little easier but my wrists didn’t like it much.

I really like the Scentsy Solid Perfume. My favorite is Satin Sheets or Love Story. They last a really long time and are not overpowering. I have never shopped at Sephora:(

We have had our tree up for about a week now. This year’s tree is our family favorite!

Reply

So happy you made it home safely and that you guys are all reunited again!!! =)
Enjoy your run on the treadmill! xoxo

Reply

Just started #plankaday yesterday. Wow its tough!! I last 1 minute!! Glad you made it home safely!!

Reply

Our tree is up and decorated! Since we didn’t even put up decorations last year, this is a big accomplishment! :)

I LOVE planks – I do them with nearly every workout. I like to vary between elbows and extended plank, and I always add some sort of variation. My current favorite is plank with hip dips.

Reply

I had the exact same conversation yesterday!! I think elbows are harder but my husband thinks hands are harder. Either one is ridiculous for four minutes!!

Reply

I think push up planks are harder!

For perfume, I love Dolce & Gabbana “Rose the One”

As for my tree, I put it up on Saturday!

Reply

Elbows planks are definitely harder! In boot camp they made us do both, and push-up position planks felt like a vacation after staying on elbows for so long (whenever someone fell down they made them get back up and the group had to hold the plank even longer)!

Reply

I ran 5.5 miles in 22 degree temps (no wind) in Oklahoma this morning. I don’t know how you run on the treadmill so much. :-)

I think it’s harder with my arms straight only because I have super tiny wrists. Either way seems to be a great workout. I hate when people try to make you go from straight arms to down on your elbows during the plank. That is the hardest.

My husband and kiddos put up our tree after Thanksgiving. I would recommend Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue perfume.

Reply

I hold my plank for only 1 minute on my elbows. A fitness instructer told me that on the elbows is harder and from personal experience I would agree. I’m sure Billy was so happy to see his girls! ;)

Reply

Push up position is harder! More gravity to fight.

Reply

YAY! You’re reunited! Good luck to Billy–that is a looonnnggg final.

Both are meant to be hard because the abs/core must pull away from the pull of gravity & stay to the spine/air/ceiling. It kind of depends in which way you train the most–and always anatatomically how strong you are in your upper body. I like both–they are tough & challenging! :)

Reply

Definitely the elbow kind. Mmmmmmm cheeseburgers.

Reply

I think on elbows is harder. Although the push up ones make my wrists hurt. But I don’t think I could do either for 4 minutes!

Reply

I typically do forearm planks, but sometimes I’ll brave ‘plank suicides’ — those are thee hardest.
I love Sephora but I rarely buy anything from there–it’s a little overwhelming and everything always seems much too expensive haha

Reply

Not sure which plank is harder-I have only done the one on my elbows-my plank PR is 4:xx , 5:00 is my ultimate goal right now!

Reply

I always do planks on my elbows because it hurts my shoulders to do them on my hands.
That Brooke and Billy pic is so adorable!

Reply

Pushup position on plank is way harder! Sure fire way to know is how long you can hold each… elbow is easy & I can do twice as long as the pushup position.

Reply

I miss you! Come back to UT soon. I would need all of the gu and gatorade in the universe to survive 8 hours of sitting in a classroom. Seriously it is a good thing there are plenty of smart people in the world because I am not one of them. :)

Love you Janae! And I say any plank is probably better than my current routine of none at all.

Reply

I vote elbows! Partially because a trainer at the gym said that makes it harder!

Reply

Brooke looks so happy to be reunited with Billy!

This post reminds me that I have to do some planks soon. I’m on my elbows for sure…

Have a great run!

Reply

We have 2 trees up in our house (one upstairs and one downstairs, of course) but I’ve only decorated one of them. The two ornaments you have on your tree are adorable though..I don’t think you need to do anything more! :)

Reply

Love the fruity mentos!!!!!
Planks are fun – seriously, I kind of like them. I think the forearm ones are harder though!

Reply

If you ever are looking for something sweet to spray on, try: http://www.takemeaway.com/fragrances/marshmallow/ They sell it at CVS/Rite Aid. Seriously – the marshmallow makes you smell like a cupcake! I stopped a girl in the gym locker room one evening and asked what she was wearing….it was MARSHMALLOW!!

Reply

Elbow plank are WAY harder! I can hold the push-up position one for 1 minute. that’ it. Yeah i need to work on my strength :)

Reply

I switch up my fragrance seasonally – I love to mix it up and right now I have Burberry Brit and this summer I wore Burberry Brit sheer… I also have Ralph Lauren Romance and one from Banana that I love.

I haven’t done planks in a while and think I’ve only done them on my forearms.

I am away the week before Christmas so I got only a tabletop tree this year. I normally get one about 5′ tall, so it’s weird to have such a small one. Did I spy a race medal on your tree? :)

Glad you made it home safely – I bet Billy is too!

Reply

try bohemian by American Eagle, its soooooooooooooo good!!!

Reply

Push up position is definitely harder. On my forearms I can hold it forever and I feel so strong then I try it on my hands and I can barely hold it half the time….new challenge to add to my list.

Tree went up last weekend and looks beautiful. When we first moved in together we were like you with hardly any decorations but every year we build up more and more of a collection. I recommend purchasing silver, red, white, etc balls of different sizes and lights to fill up the tree till you have more decorations. Or make gingerbread decorations….fills up the tree and every time you walk by you can snag a little snack.

Must be nice to be home with Billy:)

Reply

Yay! You’re back in CALI! Can’t wait to see the tree FULLY decorated. How nice that Brooke was a sleepy head while traveling. It’s much better than her crying. By the way, does Brooke ever cry!?

I think a plank is MUCH harder in the forearm position. Right!? I usually do a minute and a half, rest, then do another minute, then rest, then do 30 seconds with knee to chest, 30 seconds knee to elbow, etc. :)

Reply

I think push-up planks are harder, but the really crazy one is one the yoga ball! My absolute favorite sent is Coco Chanel, and I get it at Sephora :) And no tree in my lonely studio apartment :(

Reply

elbows are so hard!

Reply

Dolce and Gabbana #3 & Ralph Lauren has the big pony collection which include 4 scents. All are really good. I love the pink one #2

Reply

Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf. It is an exclusive Sephora scent and so amazing!

Reply

I actually think the elbow plank is harder than the regular plank.
I have been doing #plankaday and I held my plank for 3 minutes the other day! I felt like a rockstar!

Reply

I think all planks are extremely hard! But push up planks are harder. I like victoria secret body spray only because they are pretty light scents. I am not a big perfume fan. A lot of them give me headaches. Our tree has been up since before Thanksgiving but decorated Thanksgiving weekend. I love Christmas!

Reply

I think elbow planks are harder :)

Reply

Welcome back!

Wow a four minute plank?? Impressive!

Reply

You’re one step ahead of me, we haven’t gotten out tree yet. I’m ready to have our house smell like Christmas!

My favorite perfume for the last few years is Paris Hilton, the original one in the pink and black striped bottle. My husband loves it so I just keep wearing it, lol. Guess it’s my signature scent!

Reply

Okay, I just have to say, I LOVE LOVE the pictures of Brooke but especially the look on her face looking at Billy in the picture up top. Seriously she is possibly the cutest baby ever.

I think planks on my elbows are easier, but I have weak violinist’s wrists so what do I know.

Reply

ELBOWS. A million times harder.

Reply

Nice tree!! I think that straight arm plank can be harder since you have a lot more room for your hips to sag or your arms to feel tired.. I LOVE planks- they are some simple and effective!

Reply

elbows is way harder. i think 2 minutes is my max.

Reply

elbows for sure! i can go for 3 minutes but i’ve been working at it! hard stuff.
