I take it all back.

Where did we leave off yesterday?

All I can remember was that Brooke took a long nap, I joined her, we both got into our pajamas and went to which which for dinner.

IMG 6639

My Dad is a brilliant man and he has decided that Which Wich offers the best sandwiches in the state of Utah and so that translated into us having to go for dinner last night.  I decided to show you both angles of the sandwich in the below picture so that you could fully understand the incredibleness of my turkey sandwich.

IMG 6640

I have read all about this whole CrossFit thing and could not understand what the big deal was.  Well, Ash invited us girls to Elevated for a free night there and so I decided to finally give it a shot.

IMG 6650

I think I died.  As you can tell by the next two “jumping” photos, I could not get off of the ground.

IMG 6649

Don’t ask what my arms are doing.

IMG 6648

I really tried not to like it but I really enjoyed it.  My whole body is throbbing and I don’t know when I will ever be able to move again but it was a blast.   I don’t remember all of the numbers but we did a ton of pull-ups (I had to use a box to help me), push-ups, squats and sit-ups.  I knew I was in trouble when my heart was pounding incredibly fast during the warm-up.   I definitely see why people love it so much and someday when we have a few extra dollars (aka in like 20 years) I will definitely want to join a CrossFit gym.   I take it all back… CrossFit is pretty awesome.

10:14- 10: 26 last night:  I spent trying to get my phone out of the couch because it fell down in there and took forever to get out of it.  I was tempted to wake up my nieces to come get it out because they have small hands and that would have made things a lot easier.   The silver lining:  I found a pack of gum and $5 when I was trying to retrieve my phone.

My Friday night started with an earthquake! We’re in Tokyo at the moment and it was my first proper quake, which is ironic as I live in the Bay Area. My current plans include a glass of wine to settle my nerves!

I haven’t tried cross fit but I have several friends who are really into it! Currently most sore in my knees. I need to get off the pavement but its impossible with the running stroller. Which wich takes the cake!!! Def the best! I joke to my husband that everyday is a weekend for me since I’m not working right now (because ya know, staying at home with a baby isn’t “work”)!

P.S. why in the world are you up at 430 haha?!

Reply

My calves! Although not sure why… and my IT band where they’re bruised from physical therapy… gotta love that.

Reply

Most sore in my foot – stupid PF. CrossFit looks fun, but really I like to be able to walk the next day and currently, Jillian’s 30 day shred is making me extremely sore!

Reply

I’ve watched crossfit workouts, but never tried them myself. I find them sort of terrifying.

Reply

I’ve also tried CrossFit and found t surprisingly fun! Though, like you, I would need some serious cashflow to actually join.

Reply

Love Crossfit! Wish I could do it more often.

Jimmy John’s is my favorite sandwich shop. Best vegetarian sandwich with avocados. So good!

I get off at 1:00 pm today! Spending a few hours with my girlfriends and then family night to see Santa with my girls, parents, younger brother and his family.

Reply

CrossFit is fun and everyone is incredibly nice. Although I avoid any workout that includes burpees. My shoulders are sore from CrossFit and my right knee has been sore. I was surprised at how much I liked CrossFit.

I am currently sore on my left shin. I don’t think my shins appreciated my first outdoor run in weeks as much as I did. I have never tried CrossFit but really want to! Too bad every CrossFit gym near me is a gazillion dollars.

Reply

CrossFit is AWESOME! I’m so hooked that my “expensive” membership now seems like a necessity money-wise. It has not only changed me physically in the past year of doing it, but emotionally as well. Hope you can make it to a “box” again!

Reply

I haven’t tried crossfit yet…. I’m just nervous I’ll really love it and won’t be able to afford the crazy expensive membership. Plus, I’d rather be outside running than in a gym!

Panera Bread is my favorite sandwhich shop – love everything about that place!

PS Brooke’s lil’ pj’s are the cutest :)

I want to try crossfit so badly! Mostly because a friend of mine has gotten really into it and he looks so incredibly fit right now. He was really fit anyway (he ran Boston last year!) but the Crossfit has really helped him tone up.. He says he’s mostly happy for his wife that she gets to enjoy him all muscular and fit… lol.

I’ve been craving a sandwich with big globs of avocado on it.. I still haven’t found exactly what I want around here – Hmmm, sounds like a kitchen project for the weekend!!

Reply

I am dying to try cross fit! I am so tight with time because of my 4 kids and all of their activities and a full-time job. I would so love to do it!

Reply

I’ve never tried cross fit – I’m afraid I will love it and I can’t afford another hobby like that ;-)
I am most sore in my legs, since like monday! I did legs at the gym on Sunday and Jillian on Monday, and they are just starting to not hurt. But, I had my first run after not running for 12 days, it was awesome! Nice to be back:)
No major plans, my daughter has gymnastics Friday nights from 6-8:30, so that kind of kills our Friday nights:)
Have a great weekend!!

Reply

I haven’t tried crossfit but I hear u get in wicked shape. I’d like to give it a shot one day :)

I just started working out again after getting the ok at my 6week postpartum checkup and I have been so sore all week. My shoulders and upper back and hamstrings are the most sore though. It feels good to get a good sweat on again!
We don’t have alot of sandwich places out here but we do have an extreme pita which I love bc they have amazing falafels and being a vegetarian it’s nice to have something other than veggies!

Reply

OMG your attempt at jumping is HILARIOUS! I am not sure I could do much better however and would somehow fall flat on my face. :)

Haven’t tried crossfit – would like to though.

Favorite sandwich place….my kitchen. I may some wicked awesome sammies. (Broil them in in the oven and everything) YUM!

Reply

I have been doing Crossfit for 1 year now, and I LOVE it :) I have worked out since I was a teenager but never knew what to do with weights. My body has never responded to anything as well as it has to Crossfit. I started following your blog recently, because my goal is to run a half before my 35th birthday.

Reply

omigosh… our jumping picture. LOL. We are such goofballs.

I hope I can make it to lunch and hang out again!

Had so much fun with girls last night!

Reply

I had leg day yesterday, and I really pushed it with the weights, so my legs feel like jelly today! And when I got to work the elevator was acting funny so I had to take the stairs. I usually take the stairs, but allow myself the elevator when my legs are this sore. OUCH!

Reply

Never tried crossfit!! I’m glad you liked it!

BTW, what colour/brand/type of lipgloss is it you use? I’m addicted to gloss and love whatever it is you have on!

Reply

I am so addicted too! It is shineberry from Victoria secrets!

Reply

I have been going back and forth on trying crossfit. I am really intimidated by it (and it’s expense!) ;) Maybe one day!

Reply

I’ve never tried Crossfit, but I’m pretty sure I would love it…the problem? I can’t justify paying for it–it’s really expensive!

Reply

My knees are sore right now. They are adjusting to my first almost 50 mile week. Luckily it’s just sore, not actual pain. I actually did some weights this week so I finally had sore abs. I need to do more of that. I think I would probably like CrossFit but I’ve never tried it before.

Reply

Never tried Crossfit although I’d love to! I love being sore the next day (safely sore not injured sore). I’m living it up in NYC Friday night!

Reply

I’ve never tried Crossfit and probably won’t end up giving it a go. It looks crazy intimidating, and I’m kind of a wimp when it comes to being sore. I’m a big fan of Fridays, though :D My weekend starts at 3 PM today, and hopefully I can drag the boy out on a date tonight. If not then I’m holing up inside with a holiday movie because it’s freeeeezing out.

Reply

I think I would love CrossFit but dont want to try even with a good Groupon or something cause I know I don’t have the time in my schedule or the money in my bank to commit to it. My sister and good friend are going crazy with workouts right now and joined a CardioBarre and kickboxing gym – so jealous.

Reply

Last night was fun. That jumping picture is epic. It looks like I am trying to sniff my arm pits..in BOTH pictures! What the heck?

I think the only sandwich place I have been to is subway. How sad is that? I just found out a Which Which opened up a few miles from me, so I want to try it soon.

A Christmas party tonight. Kinda sad I am missing out on crossfit though. And I just realised I need to bake for said party and my oven is still broken. Crap bags.

I don’t feel like I am too sore. I think my chest and back are the worst. I foam rolled after i got back, but not as much as i should have. My legs are crazy tight/sore and i dont know why. I just dont want it to affect my running. I am surprised i am not more sore…..Then again, I am typing this from my phone and have yet to get out of bed….

Reply

Ooooh Crossfit! So glad you got to try it and that you enjoyed it!
Someone told me that if you talk to the people at “the box” and let the know your situation (“my husband just started law school and I just had a baby”), then they will give you a discount or try to work something out with you. My friend is a teacher and got a discount at his box!

Reply

I really want to try CrossFit, but it’s a little out of my budget. And this might be TMI but my but is on feels like it is going to fall off.

Reply

CrossFit is the bomb dot com! I’m not surprised you liked it!! Ahh someday when I come to SJ and we FINALLY meet live we will have to take a CrossFit class!

Reply

Haha I’m glad you liked it! I mean, we’re athletic people, so it’s hard not to like something that gives us a sweat session. I’m not surprised you’re sore though! I want to try it at some point… but not right now. I’m just getting into yoga and cross fit is way intense compared to that

Reply

I’ve never tried Cross Fit, but it’s everywhere lately! I’m definitely intrigued. I’m really sore in my back and shoulders. I’ve been trying to add more pushups to my routine!

Reply

I have been reading so much about crossfit! I haven’t tried it yet but it sounds like something that I would totally love!
Currently I am not sore anywhere. I took it easy the past couple of days and today is the day to get a good workout in.
My favorite sandwich joint is Jimmy John’s. I am in love with the Beach Club! I may have to get that for lunch today now that I am thinking about it:)
My weekend isn’t much of a weekend. I should actually be working all weekend. But, I guess in a way you could say it starts now. I got tonight off because I have a Wine and Velata Chocolate party that I am doing. It should be a fun night with the co-workers that are hosting it. Then I have to work tomorrow night. But then I have Sunday night off again so that I can do the local Rotary Lights 5k race with my family.

Reply

Yummm, that looks great!

I’m super impressed that you survived a CrossFit session!

Reply

I’ve always wanted to try Crossfit…partially terrified of it…but so many people swear by it.

Those sandwiches look amazing – it’s making me want one and it’s only 11am here (and I’m still in my pjs) =)

Reply

Who has tried CrossFit? What do you think about it? Do you want to try it?
I’ve been invited to try it, but the scheduling hasn’t worked out. I would LOVE to try it.

Where are you currently most sore?
Calves. I’ve been wearing compression sleeves on my runs and I don’t know if that has something to do with it??

Favorite sandwich joint?
Eh. I could do without sandwiches, really. But if forced to choose, it’d be Panera. Because I can get Broccoli Cheddar Soup with my sandwich.

What time does your weekend start today? Any fun Friday night plans?
I get off work at 4:30. I’m taking my daughter to her gymnastics class tonight. Does that count?

Reply

My weekend starts at 3:45 today. Our friend is having a b-day party tonight, then we have a xmas party tomorrow night, then I think we might go see this old ship thing downtown Sunday. Somewhere in there, I have to wrap presents and start on a craft present for my SIL. Oh ya, Saturday am, my friend and I are going for our weekly 5k (I’m kind of training her). It’ll be a fun weekend! I only have 14 days left of work for this year, so I’m counting down everything!

Way to go trying CrossFit. I’ve been wanting to try but am pretty intimidated! Brooks pajamas are ridiculously cute. Love your blog:)

Dude! Just do it! Seriously, if I can do it, anyone can do it! For real! :)

I love my CF trainers and box! I never, ever thought I would. In fact, I stumbled in and upon them on accident, oblivous to the fact that they were CrossFit and worked out there a month before saying something dumb and finding out that I was in fact doing CrossFit.

My dumb comment was “Seriously, I don’t know how those people do it. I could never do CrossFit.” as my trainers were discussing the CrossFit Games last summer. For real. They all looked at me like I had three heads and was foaming at the mouth and said “What do you think you’ve been doing the last 30 days?!” followed with lots of ‘bwahahahaha’. In my defense, I had never, ever been in a gym before much less knew what working out looked like. And, they were in the process of getting their affiliation so ‘CrossFit’ didn’t appear in their name when I went to meet with them. And, I was just really overwhelmed with getting into a groove so I never really thought about my training – just that I was starting to get training at a gym.

Reply

I’ve never tried crossfit but I’m definitely intrigued! Currently I am most sore on my butt from a spin class last night – the seats kill me! My favorite sandwich joint is the General Store in my town!! THey make amazing sandwiches named after landmarks in my town. My weekend starts at 5pm today and I cannot wait!

Reply

That looks interesting! I’ve never tried crossfit, but I know from Insanity Plyometrics – jumping is seriously hard work! At least you had fun. :-)

My new favorite sandwich is Domino’s chicken parm. My husband has tried several others, and loves them, too. Delicious.

I had a great wake up call this a.m. – school (work) was canceled. My weekend has begun. :-)

Reply

Crossfit looks intense but worth trying at least once!

Reply

I have never tried Crossfit but my husband just started the intro month. He has had two classes and he really likes it! Unfortunately, there is no way that we could afford for both of us to join Crossfit. I will just have to live vicariously through him. I figure I shouldn’t even try it because I’ll probably love it and then I will be sad that I can’t go. What you don’t know can’t hurt you, right?!

My favorite sandwich place is probably good old Subway. Their veggie patties are awesome!

Reply

I’ve never tried Crossfit, but I definitely want to! I don’t know if I’ll be a CrossFit junkie like so many of my friends/bloggy friends, but it definitely looks like you get a great workout :)

Reply

I love CrossFit! I tried it for the first time this year and I thought I was going to die. I was in so much pain but it was a good pain!

OH THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!! So glad Ash invited you! I really think CrossFit can be a fabulous addition to anyone’s primary sport! I know it has made me a stronger runner!

I want to squeeze lil Brooke’s cheeks!

Why do you exercise so much? There is a love of endorphins that people get after working out, but working out two or three times a day is too much. Your body looks great and you just had a baby and no one can tell…take it easy or it could become more than just an endorphins high.

Reply

Is working out two or three times a day too much in your expert opinion? Wouldn’t you agree that the amount someone exercises in any particular twenty-four hour period and whether that person is over-exercising is individual in nature and completely relative? Surely you can’t be implying that there is some arbitrary limit to the amount of times per day that one can participate in physical activity and that the same standard should apply to everyone. Therefore isn’t it impossible for you to accurately gauge how much physical activity is “too much” for anyone but yourself?

Reply

I think that there is a limit to the amount of times a day a person should participate in physical activity, isn’t that why there are doctors, nutritionists and other healthcare professionals who state that you should not go over a certain amount? Calories in vs. calories out, yours do not seem to add up. Billy does make a good point though and sounds very much like a future lawyer.

Reply

I agree that there is such thing as too much exercise. However, the point at which you cross the line into “too much” isn’t the same for everyone. Doctors, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals make accurate assessments of physical activity because they are experts and have close one on one contact and communication with their patients. It would be silly for a stranger to say that just because Ryan Hall runs 140+ miles a week he is over-exercising. For the same reason, everyone should consult their own doctor about how much is too much for themselves. Right?

Reply

Hey Sweetie, are you not confident enough in taking criticism from people commenting on your blog for you to respond to them but you get Billy to? Take a stance.

Reply

Haha Susan, trust me – Janae is more qualified than I am to talk about the limits of physical exercise. I just got to it first ;)

Reply

I don’t think anyone meant any ill will by these comments. Just genuine concern for Jenae, and not wanting her to over do it, especially while being so newly postpartum and breastfeeding. That in and of itself takes a lot out of a woman’s body. :-). We love Jenae and this blog.

Reply

Thanks Mo!

Reply

Thanks Mo! I really appreciate that. You are right… breastfeeding does take a lot!

Reply

This is the first time I have had a chance to even get to the computer today so that is why I haven’t had a chance to reply to this. I exercise a lot because I love it and it is also a way that I socialize and spend time with my friends and family. About the calories in vs. calories out I do not post everything I eat. I post the fun parts but I don’t feel the need (or desire) to post my snacks or the foods that I eat every single day that are boring. Yesterday was the first time that I have worked out twice in a very long time and I have never worked out three times in one day. Either way that doesn’t matter because I know personally that I have a healthy mindset about exercise. I have some big goals to accomplish in my running career so expect to see me do plenty of workouts that will help me to get to those goals.
Thank you for your comments! Let me know if you have any other questions and have a great weekend!!

Reply

Billy, I am glad Janae has you to support her. It’s funny that for thousands of years people spent all day performing physical activity (hunting, gathering, farming, cleaning, constructing, etc) and ate real food when it was available. Now everyone wants to eat every 4 hours for their metabolism and being phyiscal twice in a day is apparently wrong. Really? Without even being there I have no doubt that Janae eats when she’s hungry and moves because she enjoys it. People need to worry about themselves.

Reply

Thanks Kara. I agree with you 100%.

YAY for a fun fitness night with friends! Which Wich is totally delicious.

I just trained in GRIT, so it was crazy intense–it’s similar to CF. And yah, feels so good–yet so tough!

Reply

I started crossfit 8 months ago and I LOVE it!! Yes, it does cost a lot, but for me it’s worth every penny! It’s amazing how far I’ve come. When I started I could only deadlift 100 lbs and last week 205 lbs. I’m doing pullups, handstand push ups, burpees, and lots of oly lifts! Crossfit has changed my life, plus my husband and my 4 girls also crossfit!

Reply

DANG!!! You are incredible. I loved hearing about what you are doing now…wow! That is so neat that it is a family activity now too!

Reply

My husband and I are doing cross-fit work out’s together at our local Y. You can look up the WOD and can even find video instruction.

I bought a 1 month Groupon for a new Crossfit gym that just opened near me in Baltimore and I gotta say I LOVE IT! I really wish I could afford the $150/mo membership but yeah, there’s no way thats happening! I love that every WOD is different. You never know what you’re walking into when you come to the gym that day. I also love that everyone in class acts like your teammate and everyone is cheering everyone else on to finish! Its just such a fun crazy hard environment. If I win the lottery, I will def be joining a Crossfit gym. It makes regular gym workouts seem so drab and boring now. Oh well I still have running which also makes me immensely happy :)

Reply

YES YES YES to the teammate part (and your whole comment). It really is such a blast and I hope we both get to join a Crossfit gym someday!

Reply

I bought the same groupon to CFHE and then got sucked into joining! It was so hard going back to the regular gym after those workouts!

Reply

Initially, I thought I would probably hate CF. But now I am kind of wanting to try it! Like you, I can’t afford it, so I am avoiding going to a FREE class because I may love it and be depressed that I can’t join. Workout woes… ;-)

I am a HUGE fan of Which Wich! YUM!

Friday plans = watching our church and a bunch of other community groups sing Christmas music!
As for being sore….quads from lifting yesterday.

I did CrossFit fo about 2 months when I was training for a Tough Mudder. Pretty intense but not for me in the long run.
My upper back is killing me thanks to the new cardio resistance training class I tried yesterday. Also yesterday, MEB came to my gym for a meet and greet!!!! I died and went to runner heaven. I have a bigger running crush on him now than ever.
My weekend will be spent studying for finals and taking in a high school playoff game. Feel free to be jealous.

I’ve had a busy week at work and am just now catching up on blog reading (very important Friday task!), and I just saw your juicer post and had to respond. We live by consumer reports and have a login to the consumer reports website to check on everything before we buy. When I wanted a juicer, I immediately went to the CR website, and lo and behold – the HIGHEST RATED juicer happens to be insanely cheap! This is the one: http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-Mouth-Extractor-67650/dp/B000FHQJ6C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1354915727&sr=8-3&keywords=juicer

I immediately bought it, because at $59, I didn’t even have to think about it. I LOVE it! Great decision and CR couldn’t be more right. And I’m grateful they saved me $200:)

Reply

WOWOWOWOW!!! Thank you so much Alexis for the link! I will be forwarding that to Billy! Thank you so much!

Reply

Oh! I have been looking for a juicer and thanks for the info. Just went to Wal-mart online and got it for $39! I have seen so many others for so much more. Here’s to juicing!

I have always wanted to try crossfit but have not had the time or been able to find a gym near me

Which Which is my all-time FAVORITE sandwich place. Unfortunately, there aren’t any too close to where I live. I’ve had a free cookie coupon for almost a year now from filling out a survey on my last receipt. Which Which is calling.

That is one serious looking sandwich!

I miss the summer when it didn’t matter when my weekend started! I could read all of your posts right when you posted them :)

Anyway! I haven’t tried CrossFit, but I’d like to eventually carve out time for that. Right now carving out time for my running is about all I can muster (training for a marathon, one teenager who is in plays, one pre-teen who plays soccer, and a full time teaching job). I refuse to stop running! Maybe CrossFit is in my future.

Brooke is adorable!
