Make-up and a mentally tough run.

Today’s run was tough.  Not physically tough but mentally tough.  On my schedule (aka the running schedule I make up 10 minutes before I run) I just wanted to run for one hour and see how far I could go.  This is what I had in me:

Photo 1 copy 2

It takes far too much energy to dust one’s treadmill.

About five minutes into the run I was secretly hoping that Brooke would wake up and want to eat so I would have a real reason to quit because I had no other reasons to stop but no… she decided to sleep for 50 minutes and then for the last 10 minutes stare and laugh at her elephant mobile.   I felt awesome after the run so I am glad I stuck with it.

Photo 2

The second after I got off the treadmill I really wanted toast (the current food I can’t get enough of) for a lunch appetizer and was quite saddened by the ginormous holes in the loaf.  Guess I just gotta fill up those holes entirely with peanut butter.

Photo 4

A few people have asked about what lipgloss I wear.  I stocked up on them before I moved just in case, heaven forbid I go a day without my beauty rush.

Photo 2 1

It is from Victoria Secrets and it is truly the best.  My favorite flavors are Cherry Bomb, Shineberry and Yummyberrry (love the names;)

**** WARNING: it is extremely addicting.  It will force you to wear it 24/7 and put it on in the middle of the night when you wake up realizing you need more because your thick layer of lip gloss has evaporated while you were sleeping.

While we are talking about make-up and girly stuff I thought I would show you the make-up that I use.  I hate getting ready with a passion but I love to wear make-up everyday because I am crazy like that so I spend the least amount of time putting it on (4 minutes).  It is all from Target except for the black liquid eyeliner is from Mac from my pre-marriage days when I thought it was normal to spend 1/4th of my income on make-up.

I like to see how much of that bronzer I can use each day because looking orange is cool.

FYI I am kind of over Friday Night Lights.  I am loosing all interest in this last season, I miss the original cast way too much.  I will finish the show though, I am not a quitter, I will persevere.

————–

What kind of lip stuff do you wear?  Anyone else addicted to always having lip gloss/chapstick on?

What is a current food that you can’t get enough of lately?

When was your last mentally tough run… how did you push through it?

I did a 10K time trial on Monday and it was really TOUGH. I wanted to stop the very moment I started. The thing that motivated was seeing my pace and getting excited at how fast I was going. I had no choice but to finish, mostly just for the bragging rights!!

1. I always wear nivea lip balm. it is lush

2. food I can’t get enough of – the carrot cake i made for my hubby’s birthday. unfortunately it’s all gone now, i don’t know what i’m gonna do!

3. last tough run was today! i used your tip – swing your arms – and it worked!

DEFINITELY stick it out with Friday Night Lights! You will definitely learn to love the characters, my favorite is Luke. The last season had me in tears most of the time, it’s completely worth it. Now I’m going to watch some episodes…

Oh man, I’m ALLLL about the cereal these days. I’m very well known to mix 4 different types in one bowl. And eat it at least twice a day … no apologies there — my tummy is very happy! ;)
Bread holes were what showed me that I was finally making giant strides through my ED recovery. I used to wish for giant holes in the loaf of bread so it would mean “less calories”. Now I get super upset when there are holes because it means that stuff is going to fall out of my sandwich!! I like the way I’m living life (and hating bread holes!) much more now.
The last mentally tough run I pushed through was my last 10k race — I forgot my Garmin on my kitchen table and so I didn’t know my pace at all. I’ve come to rely on my watch, and it was tough to keep pushing myself at my hardest without knowing how I was doing/how much father I had to go … I just counted down the km’s and focused on other things like trying to catch the person in front of me, or trying to make it to the next street sign before I could count down from 20, etc. I ran a PR so I guess it worked!!

I wear cherry chapstick! It’s been my favorite for years. And Brooke is adorable, as usual.

Yes, the Motrin Moms case is an interesting one. I uslaluy present that case study when I speak, and not every female in attendance is offended by the video. The problem is that some were offended and they started a viral campaign within social media. Now, was it a true crisis that required them to react with the timing and way that they did? Here’s where opinions will differ. The important learning lesson, I believe, is that you need to add some common sense and make sure that, as a company, you are not sending out any messages that have the chance of offending anybody. Perhaps no one could have imagined the reaction that the Motrin campaign would incite I don’t know but I also wonder how much time was spent in advance internally including PR in the loop to ensure that the proper vetting was done. Very interesting food for thought and perhaps a future topic for a blog post?

What type of eye shadow and what colors??

I wear standard chapstick and I’m completly addicted. I can’t go a second without it. As soon as I brush my teeth, it goes back on.

I’m just about done with season 3 and already losing interest…but I will push through, I like to finish what I start!

I love the bareminerals Buxom glosses from Sephora. They are nice and generous with the size too.

I cannot get enough of fage yogurt mixed with peanut flour and stevia. It’s like peanut butter crack fluff. I think it’s “healthy” so I eat it non-stop.

Brooke looks so happy in that picture, I love it!!! I’m more of a chapstick girl.. I’ve tried lipgloss/lipstick and can’t get into it, prob bc I’m lazy and like you said you have to keep applying it. I’m getting married in a year and a half.. please tell me I’m going to have to stop buying my ridiculously over priced makeup form Sephora!! I just love it! :)

I’m so glad I read this OMG! I kinda felt sluggish all day yesterday and this morning, so I didn’t have it in me to run. Usually, I can get myself to do an alternative workout or some yoga but this morning…nothing. Now I’m super pumped up to get off work and run. I’m doing my first 5K next month. Toys for Tots and 100% procedes go to charity.

I could talk about makeup ALL DAY LONG! LOL! I am always wearing something on my lips. Some of my favorite things are Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum (so pretty and shiny and moisturizing!) and I also love the color Berry Smoothie. And Maybelline Baby Lips! Those are so fun.

Can’t get enough of chickpeas. I make a chickpea bruschetta that is amazing and I could eat it every day. It is chickpeas, lemon, red pepper flakes, parsley and olive oil. I mash the chickpeas and combine everything and put it on some toasted bread and it is delicious!

Yesterday was my last mentally tough run. I failed at pushing through it though. Haha! I was short on time so tried to run on the treadmill but got bored 2 miles in and quit. I made it up today with a beautiful run outside!

Reply

I can’t stop eating these days so I’m going to say I can’t get enough of all food right now. I have a feeling tonight is going to be my next mentally tough run. I’m taking a Turbo Kick class tonight and am following it up with a 6ish mile run. I really want to get my miles in so I’m going to do it even though I just want to go home and eat the curry that’s in the crockpot. That’ll still be there when I get home.

Reply

If wearing too much bronzer is wrong. I don’t want to be right.

My addicted food right now is eggs. I could eat them ALL OF THE TIME!!

I am absolutely addicted to Vaseline on my lips. I have been using it several times daily for over ten years. Occasionally I throw on some Lancome balm or pinkish lipstick with it. I am also completely addicted to honey toast right now. I have been having really good runs lately but I know that my first run after being laid up on the couch sick for a few days will be brutal so I will probably just zone out while watching Friends on the treadmill :) that show can make me get through anything

Reply

I LOVE the Eos lip balm in mint- I haven’t tried any other flavors, but it’s SO smooth. I use to be a Burt’s girl, but can’t go back now. I’m not a fan of lip gloss, but I do like Clinique’s Chubby Stick.
Hmm…dark chocolate and peanut butter. I don’t eat them together, but I eat them both in ridiculous quantities.
I’m following your rule of waiting two extra days to run after injury and so I can’t wait until Friday!!! And of course this knee thing had to happen on the most amazing run ever, so it’s making me crazy to just sit here.

Keep pushing through on FNL! I thought they wrapped up some of the stories on some of the original characters well in the last few episodes.

Do you and your sister have some magic skin care routine, other than good DNA? Y’alls skin looks amaze.

Reply

I am obsessed with the Blistex lip medic (it comes in a little blue tub). It makes your lips feel cold and its nice and shiny so it looks like a lip gloss but really it’s just a chapstick! Right now I can’t get enough of leftover halloween candy! Not good.

Reply

FNL is totally worth it in the end! I was in tears and still have it on my DVR!
I am beyond addicted to your updates :)

Reply

I didn’t think the last season was that good either!!

Reply

Holy crap you run fast! Great work!

I wear eyeliner & mascara almost every day without fail. But it’s so fast to swipe on. If I want to do more, I’ll add a bit of blush/eyeshadow/and lipcloss.

I love the peppermintty gloss from B&Body

Reply

I’m totally addicted to Bath and Body Works lip glosses. I always have 6 or so on hand (one in my make up in bathroom, one in the car, one in gym bag, 2 in purse, etc.) I reapply way to much but just love em’.

Lately i’m on a cereal kick and apples. I least I know I’m getting my fiber lol
Last tough run was on Monday on the treadmill. To get through it I played number games with myself- increasing speed every 1/2 a mile. Powered through and felt great afterwards, as always.

Love Brooks swing, would you mind me asking what kind it is?

The end is soooo good!! I am so sad that the series is over. Buttt NASHVILLE is my new fave :) Connie Britton rules in that show. You NEED to watch it.

Being pregnant, my cravings have been changing from week to week. This week, I’ve been nonstop eating this yummy ranch dip I made that has cheddar cheese and bacon in it. It’s awesome with chips or veggies. So good!!

Reply

You need to try Philosophy’s salted caramel hot cocoa lip gloss. It reminded me how much I enjoy lip gloss & smells so delicious! :) filling up the hole with pb is a great way to cover up the whole :)

Reply

I wear TJ’s mint chapstick and Revlon colorstay lipgloss.

I am loving chocolate-covered acai blueberries from Costco.

My last mentally tough run was a recent marathon. I spent a lot of the last few miles praying.

Reply

Don’t give up on FNL!!!! It’s amazing until the end (well, I’m two episodes from the end but they can’t possibly blow it now).

Reply

Well, let me tell you!

I use Burt’s Bees. Always! Because it doesn’t dry out my lips, but I put it on like it’s going out of style. Over it I wear a nude shade of Wet n Wild. My 1st grown-up lipstick. For some reason I think colored lipstick makes me look like a grandma. I would love to wear lipgloss, but I swear I feel it making my lips droop under the weight. And my hair always sticks to it! LOL.

I just finished off a jar of Nutella and a box of graham crackers. I’ve been eating it everyday at work for a week. Glad to see it gone, the madness is over.

Every run is mentally tough for me. I just think about how cool my arms look, or how funny my butt looks bouncing up and down. Laughter makes me keep going.

Reply

How adorable is she!!!

You know, I felt the same way on the last season of FNL. In fact, I think toward the end I skipped the last four episodes and watched the very last one. I did like Luke’s storyline a lot! It is a show that I would watch all over again!!

Reply

I’m a lipstick girl. Probably because I am obsessed with all things retro. I have tried those VS lipglosses though, and they are great!

1. HAHAHA! Girl, you are NOT alone. http://instagr.am/p/RvujJ2leQv/ (Breaking news: Did you know Beauty Rush is now Shiny Kiss? I almost had a heart attack last week when I went to VS to get more [obviously MUCH-NEEDED] gloss and I could only find the Shiny Kiss. No need to panic, it’s the same liquid gold, just with a different name and slightly different packaging. Carry on…)

2. Every morning I have a piece of sourdough toast (the La Jolla brand from Costco – YUM!) and a scrambled egg on top. I keep thinking I’m going to get tired of it, but every morning – for, like, the past 6 MONTHS – it STILL sounds good. Weird, huh?

3. Easy. That was the Rock N Roll Half-Marathon in LA a couple weekends ago. I started a new job in September and, let’s just say, I started tapering WAAAAY early. So busting out 13.1 miles was mentally challenging. I finished seconds under my goal (which changed a little mid-race), but I pushed through. One of the things that kept me going was a Facebook post at mile 9 from my 8-year-old daughter. Here it is: “hi mommy! Your doing great! Me and Cristian are having fun, watching Up. GO MOMMY GO!!! I AM ROOTING FOR YOU!!! XOXOXOXOX”
*sigh*
Man, I love that kid. :)

Wait…it isn’t normal to spend that much on our makeup?

……That is a lesson I do not want to learn.

Cherry chapstick.
Peaches.
The 5 I did after the 10k was hard. I pushed through it by thinking about the brownies I was going to eat when I got home.

Great job on your run! The challenging ones make you feel on top of the world when they’re all over with!

I wear all fairly inexpensive make-up that can be found at Target too… Maybelline foundation and mascara, and Revlon eyeliner does the trick every time! Simple, but I love it.

Reply

I love the Almay smart shade foundation. It works great for my sensitive skin.

I always have to have chapstick in my purse.

In regards to the eyeshadow, I’m just like you in that I use up the middle color first! Then I’ll use a combination of the other two when that one runs out. :-P

Great job running, you have been my inspiration lately! Whenever I wake up at 5am to run I always think of how far you go and figure i can go my measly 5 miles. :) I’m also glad to hear your run was tough mentally, ONLY for the fact that it shows you’re like the rest of us and not super human in your running powers! Question for you- my pace is anywhere from 8-8:30 min/mile and I would like to get it consistantly under 8 min/mile, do you have any suggestions for increasing speed? I don’t have a race coming up, do you think I need to have something in mind to be training for? What are your tips for going as fast you do? You’re amazing!!

Reply

I hate those days when I’m just bored with running. It’s always so weird, because I love it so much, but sometimes I just can’t get through it. You are one speedy woman! I can only dream to go that fast someday!! I never, ever wear makeup, unless my friends tie me into a chair and put it on before we go out for the night. That doesn’t happen very often, in case you were wondering. It just takes too much effort!

Reply

I had a workout like that today too. Tired to do some uphill intervals hat just blew my mind up where I ended up cutting the workout short after I started to get an awful headache. For me it’s harder to be mentally together than it is to be physically together, but I’m convinced that one day I WILL figure that out.

I’m a cherry Chapstick kind of gal, I’ve been addicted since I was in 7th grade which is now 15 years ago. Yikes.

Reply

I have to try that lip balm! I always see it but have never tried it.

I can’t get over how cute Brooke is by the way, shes so adorable! And I’m also jealous she gets to be in that swing, it looks super comfy.

Reply

Great job pushing through the run! I get so mentally weak on treadmills and just want to give up! grr

I don’t think I’ve went a day in my life without lipgloss since I was like 13. I have those VS ones, they’re sooo good!

Reply

I must have Burt’s Bees peppermint chapstick on my lips at all times or I pretty much die.

Reply

I work at Sephora so I am always applying something to my lips. I’m currently addicted to Korres lip butter in plum and mango. Like I am drooling just thinking about those little suckers.

My last mentally tough run was … well, that one’s easy. My very first marathon on Sunday. I finished at 5:51, just barely within the 6-hour time limit … super slow compared to speedy Janae, but my goal was to finish on time, so I am happy! :) It was of course physically grueling … I thought I would have 10 miles or so of feel-good running at least, but it was difficult from about mile 2, but maybe it was more mental at first … the idea that I still had 5 more hours to go! And my husband and I run together too, so I cannot even FATHOM how difficult it would be to do a marathon alone!! Kudos to you and everyone else who runs alone! Afterward, every single part of my body hurt, and walking and every other movement was nearly impossible … but now, just a few days later, I feel great with no trace of soreness (although some of the chafing remains) … it is kind of surreal … the body’s AMAZING healing powers and resilience!! :)

I am not sure if I’ll do another full marathon … on Sunday, I was thinking NO WAY, but now I am starting to think maybe … :)

my last tough run was actually last thursday… i did 10.3 miles on the treadmill which is not an unual run distance for me) and by the second mile i was already having to play the mind games to keep me running.. it sucked but i did finish the planned run and, like always, felt GREAT when i finished. Since then, i have had 4 good runs in a row… all tread mill, all 10+ miles and have been feeling great.. I hope the good runs last!

Brooke is so cute in that photo- she is the happiest looking baby! adorable!

Food.. I have been hungrier that usual lately … i think it is the change of seasons and the need for warm comfort foods ( it has been really cold and today it is snowing! boo!!!!) I have had Trader Joe’s low sodium creamy tomato soup the last three days in a row.. i toss in some baby spinach and a piece of cooked chicken breast and either rice or a few trader joe multi grain mini crackers … There is something about tomato soup when it is cold out … it rocks!

Reply

oh and lip gloss.. my favorite is Buxom by bare essencials /bare minerals. It is cool and tingly.. i love it. When i am not wearing that , i am using the Blixtex DCT in the beige container. I am totally addicted!

Reply

All I wear is chapstick, but I do have to have it on all the time! Right now, I can’t stop eating banana chips. Seriously, it’s an addiction!

Reply

I had a rough run today too. I did 7 miles but stopped a few times to stretch and do some crunches. I just couldn’t get into it today either. No worries, Monday and Tuesday were good ones so I guess I’ll take 2 out of 3.

Reply

I have that exact same eyeshadow! I really like Bath and Body Works lip gloss and wear it daily.

Reply

so glad you did this post, your makeup always looks great! i love wearing revlon lip butter lipstick. its so smooth and lasts a long time.

keep watching fnl, the last episode is amazing and just wonderful! i had a tough time with season 2 but overall the show is awesome.

brooke is the cutest 3 month old baby ever!

Cast change?! I got super into FNL while I was sick for like a week about a year and a half ago, but once I got better I sort of forgot about it (I know, I’ve heard that’s not possible but I swear it happened!). I was actually just thinking I should get back into it…

Reply

The long run is so mentally tough that I haven’t even been attempting it!!! But luckily, my running group is meeting this Saturday to do a long run (they’re doing 18, and I can probably only fit in 15 miles because of other plans). Score for having running buddies!

I am currently on accutane for some adult acne that just was unbearable so my current lippie of choice is some special lip balm called Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm. It has hydrocortisone in it and it’s amazing for my dry peeling lips! But when I’m off of it I love the MAC’s lip glosses. Gorgeous colors. I freaking love makeup. Almost as much as I love running.

Reply

I am a lipgloss fiend so I am going to have to try that kind!! I love the Bigelow Cinnamint gloss from B&B!!

Reply

I love lipsmackers Dr. Pepper. I have one with my makeup for morning, one at my office and one in my purse. I have loved it since 6th grade! I’m new to running and get the best ones in on weekends…Tuesday was tough, was on the mill since it was cold and raining. I had to get off and brave the weather, once I was outside I felt like I was flying! I don’t have much endurance, so I only did 2 miles, but I’m getting better and pushing for more miles every week. I have problems with pacine because my body wants to run at 9.30 pace but my lungs can only handle 11ish. I’ll get there. Haven’t missed a scheduled run in 3 months and PR’d my last 5K…soon I’ll be running half marathons and thanking myself for not giving up even though it feels like building my endurance is taking an eternity!

Reply

Chapstick is an absolute must! And I, too, will reapply in the middle of the night. Side note: have you ever tried peanuts with your candy corn?? Had them mixed as a snack and it is fabulous. :)

Reply

good job on powering thru the run…had one today where i was pretty much counting down the 1/4 miles in my brain the entire time! :P

oh man, i had the SAME thoughts on FNL, but i forced myself to stick it out until the end because i’m OCD and it has to be REALLY bad for me to stop mid-way. i mean i even stuck out all the seasons of One Tree Hill just because i couldn’t not finish. lol

Reply

I’m so bad about wearing lip gloss…it always comes off after max 2 minutes!!

Reply

I love babylips lip chap . Comes in different flavors and works so well!

All of my tempo runs are challenging! I really push myself and sometimes they are hard to power thru to the end.
I’ve been on a cheese pizza kick with ranch dip lately. So bad I’m stopping tomorrow :).

Um, I just love you. And… I really need to update my make up. It’s like 10 years old. I’m surprised I don’t get a rash. Ha. And now I need some bronzer too. Hugs!

Reply

I wear the same lip gloss as you but I’m more addicted to the Chapstick that goes under it.
I’m currently so obsessed with the Christmas tree Reese’s. the chocolate to peanut butter ratio I so much better than the cups. Haha

I love lip gloss, but I wouldn’t say I am addicted to it :) I love that minty lip gloss at Bath and Body Works though! Food I am addicted to…always…peanut butter :)

I generally just wear chapstick instead of lipgloss. How sad am I?

I made the most incredible pb cookie brownies the other day and I can’t stop eating them. They are amazing.

Do you watch Nashville? It has Connie Britton (sp?) in it from FNL and I LOVE IT!!! I love Country music and country, BUT I have friends that don’t and LOVE the show! :) You should try and watch it if you have time or DVR it. It is on Wednesday nights.

Have a good day, girley! :)

I wear MAC lipstick because it smells like cookies and stays on forever.
But I am with you on the Physician’s formula. After my MAC powder, eyeshadow, blush, etc. began to ran out, I have been switching to Physician’s Formula for everything (besides lipstick).

Ironically I was putting on some of my pearadise beauty rush lip gloss when I started reading this post! I buy everything on clearance when it comes to clothes, shoes, purses, etc. I do that to justify my ridiculous spending at MAC. MAC owns my entire soul. The only thing I use for makeup that isn’t MAC is my mascara.

My new favorite is by Sugar. It’s a tinted lip moisture!

I don’t know what I would do without mac black liquid liner!! The pre-marriage make-up…how appropriately named because I feel the same way! haha

no!!! i loved every last episode of FNL…though i will admit, once they wrote Matt out i was devestated.
you should start watching Parenthood on NBC…LOVE IT….or Awkward…its an MTV show but incredibly addicting. =)

I used to use the Rosebud salve tin for lip balm all the time, but have since transitioned over to Maybelline Baby Lips and Aquaphor tubes!
