iPhones ruin lives.

Today’s post is going to replace my normal Tangent Tuesday posts because I have way too many random things to tell you about.

1.  Let’s just get the depressing one out of the way first.

Photo on 11 24 12 at 4 50 PM

It was a dark Friday night and Brooke was crying and so when I got to the store I jumped out of the car as quickly as possible to rescue her and boom… iPhone flew from my lap to the parking lot and it is hard to see in the picture but there is a nice ol’ crack staring at me all day long.   Billy is a saint for forgiving me for breaking my phone (he is super careful with his electronics) for the 1 millionth time.

2.  Brooke is finally getting professional pictures taken on Tuesday and so my mom and I went to every single baby store in the county to find the perfect outfit.  I wanted to keep the dress simple so that it doesn’t distract from the big smile of hers.

Photo

3.  Best Hershey Kiss you will ever eat.  Mint flavored.  Holy cow.  Second part of this tangent:  While I am in Utah I am using my car from college to drive around and I am having so many flashbacks to my partying (my definition of partying:  Drinking Slurpees while hanging out at 7-11 and staying up until midnight) days in college.

IMG 6052

4.  My niece asked me yesterday, “When you die can I take over the blog?”   At least she also said that she hopes it doesn’t happen anytime soon.

IMG 6176

5.  I have started my Christmas list for things that I want from Billy and I just take a picture of them with my phone and send them to him.  Is it sad that the number one item on my list is this beautiful set of hot chocolate?

IMG 6180

6.  Gummy Bear Companies,

When will you learn to stop making yellow and orange gummy bears?  No one eats them.

IMG 6183

7.  And just because I don’t feel right hitting publish without a picture of Brooke.

My husband knew I would most likely drop my iphone the second i received it so he made the smart decision of getting an otterbox case. they’re horribly bulky but my phone isn’t broken!!

Reply

Your poor phone! When I had a Droid it used to fall out of my car all the time because I always forgot about it, but it seems like iPhones are way more fragile so I’ve been careful never to put mine in my lap while in the car. I have a friend whose iPhone screen was cracked all over and it worked fine, so maybe you can keep using yours!

Reply

If that’s an iPhone 4 you can find replacement screens pretty easily online. If either of you are really good at reading/following instructions it might be worth a shot. I know that iphone4parts.com sells a replacement front screen in black for around $45, but Amazon also has them.

Reply

Aww I’m sure the photo session will be so much fun with Brooke! She will be absolutely adorable.

I drove a ’95 Honda Civic in high school and got a ’07 Mazda3 in college which I still have!

Reply

The back of my iPhone is shattered so I have a cover to hide it. I am SO thankful the front didn’t crack when the back broke. My Mr. would not be as forgiving as Billster considering my last iPhone drown in Diet Coke….so sad! lol

It’s been hot cocoa time for me all year. I blame you for my addiction :)

Reply

I will eat your yellow gummy bears! They’re my second favorite after the white ones. But I agree on the orange, they can get rid of those.

Reply

Hahaha I laughed when I read what your niece said. It’s nice that she wants to follow in your footsteps I guess but that would make me pretty sad…I’ve never seen those swiss miss containers but they are absolutely getting added to my christmas list. Cracking my iphone is pretty much my biggest fear. I’d be sad too. My dad washed my iTouch in the washing machine once and I was pretty mad. I think there’s a way to get a new screen for like $10 though… so hopefully you can figure something out!

Reply

awww I LOVE Brooke’s jacket! it looks so so so soft, I would wear it :)
her dress is adorable! I can’t wait until you post the pics!
sorry about your iPhone! I’m going to text you and see if it still works!
I hope you’re having a blast with your beautiful family!
xoxo!!!

I think I’ve cracked the screen of every phone I’ve ever owned! :( I want to get an iPhone but have been hesitant for that exact reason! ha

I drove a ROCKIN gold Geo Prizm in high school – oh yea. I went to college in the Bay Area of CA, and didn’t have a car! I haven’t had a car since then, actually, as I’ve lived in the UK, India, and now Mexico, so I don’t need/can’t afford one! hahah But I love visiting my parents in CA and driving their cars!

Hope your trip home has been fantastic!! xoxo

I cracked the screen on my old phone. I was in my boyfriend’s truck and forgot my phone was on my lap. When I hopped out the phone flew and landed face down and the whole thing was so bad the glass was sharp and I couldn’t use it :(

I’m in love with that hot chocolate set. Where is it from!? I am the hot chocolate queen. Have you ever made hot chocolate with Nutella? It’s so delicious! Around the holidays when people come over I’m always requested to make it.

In high school I had a silver Buick Regal. When my grandpa passed away I got his car. Then when I graduated I got a gray Honda Civic coupe.

Reply

I’ve missed posts with your little nieces and nephew in them!!

Mmm, hot chocolate!!

Reply

OK, I can’t tell you how to do it but if you go on the Internet you can buy both front and back of the iPhone and change it quite easily from what my daughter tells me. ;)

Reply

I like the yellow and orange gummi bears the best! they make them for people like me! :-/

Reply

Me too! They should just make separate bags for us I guess.

Reply

I was at the Runners World 1/2 marathon and had checked out of the hotel the morning of the race. When I was putting my bag in the back of car I somehow dropped my phone in the parking lot :( not the bottom 1/2 of the screen is cracked. Your Brooke is so adorable!

Reply

I got my first car when I was in college. It was a Honda Civic and I drove it for YEARS before it died.

Reply

The oranges and yellows are my FAVORITES!!! If you & I could just split a bag it would be perfect. I hate the red ones & I could take or leave gold and green.

Reply

Ooooohhh… that hot chocolate is calling my name. I love Brooke’s outfit! Random thing in my day: I just did a spontaneous 10K with my husband and dog. Highschool/College Car: Jeep Cherokee.

Reply

Key question: Does your niece like candy corn? Because, let’s be honest, if she’s the heir to the HRG queendom, dessert and candy knowledge will be key. I hope you will be her Yummy Food Yoda and teach her all you know. ;)

Reply

I’ve never cracked a screen, but I snapped flip phones into two pieces on a regular basis.

I drove an 02 Cavalier in college, and just traded it in a few days ago. I miss it already, so I’m jealous you get to visit your old car!

Reply

Sadly, also on Friday night I dropped my iphone and it basically shattered in one corner. I guess I should be happy it still works? So mad at myself. I have never commented but I just adore your blog!

Reply

I always leave the orange and yellow gummy bears too!! They’re so not delicious!

Reply

Brooks sweater remind me of those ice cream sandwiches with strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate flavors

Reply

oh noooo, your iphone!! My brother is the same way and VERY careful about his electronics. He’d be so annoyed if I broke mine!

That outfit for Brooke’s picture looks so cute. Can’t wait to see it!! :D

I had no car in highschool or college!! :(

Reply

Omg I did the same thing! Phone on my lap in the car and forgot it was there and hopped out and smashed all around the camera part..I didn’t tell my husband for a month bc I was terrified he would yell at me. He also takes precious care of his electronics…glad I’m not alone :)

And I laughed outloud at the gummy bear comment. So true! Same with life savers…they are always the last to get eaten!

Reply

So true re: gummy bears! No one eats yellow and orange!

I cracked my iPhone screen before – it started small and soon spiderwebbed across the entire screen. At that point, I knew it was time for a replacement!

My random thing of today: I discovered a new donut flavor at my favorite local donut shoppe – coconut red velvet! I don’t even love donuts all that much but these were heavenly!

Reply

I have a bad history of cracking my iPhone screens:/ My new iPhone5 fell out of my pocket during a hike a fell down a huge rock and partially into a puddle. For some reason there was no water damage and only a little scrape on the side! Now I understand why my husband put water damage insurance on my phone;)

Reply

Random part of my day – It’s my day 2 of the Runners World #RWRunStreak. Started 2 days late. Better later then never, right?

My car throughout high school and college was a green ’97 Pontiac Sunfire. It was awesome! Right at college graduation I traded up for a VW Jetta. My first stick shift, and I LOVED IT. (Still have it, but not so great to put 3 little guys in the back comfortably)

Reply

It’s funny how old cars bring back memories!

I haven’t ever cracked a screen, but I have dropped my in the: lake, toilet, and washing machine–it only survived the lake.

Reply

I only eat the orange gummi bears. Someone sorted out an entire sandwich baggie full of orange gummi bears as part of my wedding present.

Reply

I’m scared to get a nice phone because I’m absolutely hoooooooorrible with electronics. I drop my phone constantly, and I’ve spilled water on my laptop more than 3 times. The worst was when I stepped on my slightly new ipod touch a few years ago. I tend to be a bit messy, so I didn’t notice what I had stepped on until later when I picked it up off the ground. I died a little inside because the screen was completely shattered and the whole thing didn’t even work . I feel like I don’t deserve a new ipod, so I still haven’t gotten a new one–too scared I’d break it.

Reply

A few months before I turned 17, my parents got me a bright yellow Ford escape (I picked it out – even the color lol), and I drove it until I was 26. Lolita (my escape) was a good car for me those 10 years! I’m so thankful to not have a bright yellow vehicle anymore – I was incredibly sick of everyone knowing where I was all the time.

Random about my day – I decided to put up the Christmas tree today (way early for me). I didn’t get it decorated or anything, but it looks so pretty all lit up!

Love Brooke’s outfit!

Reply

I’m SO SORRY about your phone. My stomach hurts every time I hear a story like this. When I replaced my iphone the same thing happened to me twice where the phone fell out of my lap after getting out of the car. I didn’t get out too fast so I think that’s what saved it. It shows how good a mom you are to rescue your darling daughter that you risk your iPhone :)

Reply

Yellow and orange are the best! I eat those and give the other colors to my kids :-).

It’s awesome to be able to take pictures of your wish lists because it makes it easy for people to see exactly what you want.

Cell phone insurance has saved my teenagers. Lol. They seem to think it’s a contest to see which one can kill the most phones during the contract. I don’t like it but it’s cheaper than buying a phone at full price.

Brooke’s pictures will be fantabulous!

Reply

Never cracked my phone, but know i probably jinxed myself lol!

today, i got to play in the leaves with my 13 month old nephew and he was so cute! he loved to run thru the piles.

I had a blue nissan altima and then a green sentra and finally a silver bug in college:)
What kind of car did you drive in high school or college?

was the hot cocoa at costco? if so, i am going there asap!

Reply

Where did you get those tights? They are adorable and I need to get my leading lady some. Also, have you tried the candy cane kisses? They are white chocolate with chunks of candy canes and they are SO good!

Reply

I need to try those!!! They are from old navy! Get them!!!

Reply

They are my favorite colors! but im strange-i don’t eat any red candy :D from childhood actually so thats my excuse…Ive always kept that red bears in the bag for my fam. to finish off..my friends always!! bringing up story about bunch of us going to cinema to watch Ring..me bringing family size bag of Harribo and baby carrots :D after half hour of me showing off every single bear from bag against the screen to check if its not the red and if yes passing it to the left or right to friend, man behind me got closer and whispered in my ear: honey don’t know what kind of science project are you doing down there but how many of them you have left?? Because I have strange feeling that Ive already seen hundred little creature of the same shape :D I said sorry and something about red putting me off and passed the bag to my friends..took out the carrots-you know carrots are not so loud how you think they are like nachos but something about Ring being scary and me trying it the fear away..after 5 minutes the same man let out something like wolf cry: I give in, bring the creatures back…Im not even saying that rest of the theater was kind of freak out..
Few years after that I went to same cinema to watch premier of Mamma Mia! I sat down took out Harribo which I WASNT even planing to eat when searching for my phone to switch it off-huge fan of Merl Streep down here Im not eating or drinking when Meryl is on screen..yeah you’re guessing right the same man was sitting with his a presume wife 3seats on my left he just looked at me and with kind smile said: you again? I hope this time in some explanation :D

My iphone has a little crack in the corner which is kind of miracle cause he is constantly on the floor..and I have to say Im kind of “not so careful” with my phones-my blackberry is from friday in ball with rice after i spilled latte on it but! im so gentle with my macbook im putting it in scarf when taking outdoors :D silly i know..

Love that black and white combo for Brooke! and she seems to be such a happy child!

Reply

I cracked my screen so bad I couldn’t even see through the cracks. It was the worst! You should check out Aplsauce while you are out here at your parents house. They will fix it for 35-40 and mine looks good as new! They are at boomerang book in provo.

Reply

Sorry…gotta disagree on the gummy bears. I only eat sour gummies, but the yellow and orange ones are my favorites.

You can keep the purple (if there are any). And that holds no matter where you are – purple is a different flavor in Asia (I don’t know what…some people have suggested taro?). But I don’t like purple in the US, and I don’t like purple here. I’ll trade you, purples for orange&yellows! :)

Reply

I actually just cracked my first phone screen (HTC Evo) last night. Not quite had this phone 1 full year. “Smart” phones are way too fragile IMHO.

I like yellow gummies, but any orange candy gets tossed. ick.

Brooke will take the most beautiful pro baby shots, for sure! such a great smile :)

Reply

I’ve never cracked my phone screen, but I broke my phone when it fell out of my sports bra on a run.

Random thing: I went on my first postpartum run today and it was amazing!

I drove a ford taurus through high school and college.

Reply

I drove a green 94 Ford Taurus through high school and half of college. Oh the good ol days! :) haha

Reply

I’m practically a trained professional at breaking phone screens. I don’t have an iPhone, but a guy in my town fixes the screens on iPods, iPhones, etc. He fixed our iPod touch for $40. Maybe someone near you does the same?

LOVE the portrait outfit you chose!

Reply

I definitely feel you on the iPhone pain. My screen has about 5 big cracks running right through it. It’s funny because my phone went through a lot of abuse and managed to come out unscathed, but one freak fall from 3 ft off the ground and it cracked into a million pieces. Oh, and I definitely agree about the yellow and orange gummies… I can still handle the orange ones, but the yellow are a no-go.

Reply

Luckily I’ve never broken my phone (knock on wood!). And I drove a Ford Explorer in high school, well after my brother graduated I got to drive it. And I haven’t had a car since!

Reply

Ha! Your niece is very shrewd. I had to read that most excellent quote to my husband.

PS – I thought of you today when I bought my first running jacket with thumb holes and decided that I fully agree with you – pretty darn nifty.

Reply

Hahahah! Ahhh what jacket did you get?

Reply

It is so cool – Hind brand (from TJ Maxx), hot pink…and did I mention that there are these great thumb holes? I want to live in it.

Black berries also ruin lives! Once apon a time I was washing dishes as a kind deed and decided I needed some entertainment. I placed my phone besided me and put some headphones in my ears. Then a Taylor Swift song came on and I couldn’t help but dance.. bad idea. Then the phone fell straight into the soapy sink and never turned back on. So I had to buy a whole new phone because I didn’t have a warranty! UGH.

Ps. Will you ship me some of that delicious hot chocolate ;)

Reply

Yes I will! Boooooo to the blackberries ruining your life!

Reply

My mom cracked my phone screen when she tried to kill a new by swinging get coat at it…the phone was in her coat pocket and the bee was on the side of our house.

Reply

Because I read your blog everyday, I feel like we’re pretty great friends, and you like to hear about running I have to share that today I had my worst. run. ever.

It was supposed to be an easy 11 miles before my half marathon on Dec.9th. By mile 6 I had stopped to walk 3 times! I thought I was dying. Last week I did 10 miles at a 8:05 pace. Somehow, I ran the last 5 without stopping. I’m blaming heat, humidity, and dehydration. I guess today was just not a day for running.

Reply

Amanda!! I am so sorry about your run! I have totally been there! Give yourself a few rest days and next thing you know it, you will have an awesome run!!! Keep me updated! PS heat and humidity kill me.

Reply

But yellow gummies are the BEST!

Reply

I shattered the back cover of my iphone a couple of weekends ago. I’m almost 33 years old, and that’s the FIRST TIME I’ve ever broken a phone. Luckily, I’m married to a guy that loves to take things apart and fix them, so for about $20 he ordered me a case and it’s good as new! Oh, did I mention he made it PURPLE! :)

Reply

Thankfully, I have yet to do the unthinkable with my iPhone but I know it’s bound to happen sooner or later. I actually need to get a better case. Mine is just for show right now and definitely not protecting it as much as it should.

Reply

I’ve had my iPhone for over a year now – and not a single scratch! I’ve dropped it several times while running – I always made sure to have a cover that goes OVER the sides and around the front a bit (shell-like) to protect it. Every time I’ve dropped it – the case cracks apart (absorbing the shock) and the phone pops out fine :) Kate Spade makes some good ones (had two by her and both protected while running!) Car I owned in high school? My family’s hand-me-down Plymouth Acclaim. Died out all the time, even when it was WARM OUT. Car in college? My first car I bought out of pocket (and am still driving): Subaru Outback! Love!

And I agree about the orange and yellow gummy bears. I love the green ones. They seem to skimp on the lime flavors! Give me more green!

Okay, I have to tell you. You are CRAZY. Yellow and orange gummie bears are my FAVORITE FLAVORS!! I could totally do without all the other colors! So we could have a really good system going where you send me your leftovers and I’ll send you mine! Think about it. :)

Reply

No cracked screen for me, thank goodness. I am a total mess when it came to my phone. I drop it constantly!

Between high school and college, I had five cars. Crazy, I know. Apparently I had nothing better to do with my money! Chevy Chevette, Renault Fuego, Chevy Camero, Honda Prelude, Chevy Beretta.

Reply

I am sooo careful with my iPhone now because I always used to drop/break other phones. Now I have an OtterBox and it is indestructible. I drove a Honda Accord all through high school and college, great car! BTW we would be perfect gummy bear sharing friends, I looovvvveee the orange ones!

Reply

I like the outfit you got for Brooke. She is going to be super cute!

I also have an iPhone. I’m terrified of breaking it so I treat it like my child. Before I got a case for it I wouldn’t even put it on a table without being scared of it scratching.

Reply

My iphone is SO smashed. I was walking to the bus and looking up on my phone when the next bus was coming. Dropped it and smashed the entire screen. Happy to be up for an updated phone now with my plan though!

Reply

Im terrible with electronics. I cracked my phone screen once and I took off the entire screen so all I was left was a the plastic. It didnt work as a touch screen anymore, but i just used the keyboard and rolling ball.
Random thing from my day: I got a free drink coupon from Starbucks! I wa
I was really looking forward to a chocolate smoothie after my 14 mile run. Since they were out of chcolate they gave me a free smoothie AND a coupon for a free drink #winning
I actually had 2 cars in high school. My first car didnt have breaks lol but it only cost my dad $200 i just never got to drive it. Lol

Reply

You should get an Otterbox Defender Series case. I have had one on every iPhone I have ever owned. I drop mine all the time (even into water!) and there is not a scratch (or water damage) on it. You can get them at over half off on Amazon. They come in a wide variety of colors also (I have purple).

Reply

Haha good to see your niece has your back ;)!

Reply

That is the cutest little outfit!

I have dropped my phone MANY times. When I got my newest phone, my fiance bought me an otter box for my birthday because he knew how terrible I am. It has SAVED me.

Reply

You should get a coat to match Brooke’s. It’s adorable!!
I dropped my phone with one of those fancy cases and it shattered the back. Luckily the case keeps it all intact and no one can tell.
Today wasn’t even random enough to come up with a fact.
I drove a VW Thing in high school! (Early 80’s) It was a convertible and a blast! Probably the most unsafe car EVER, but it worked!

Reply

Never cracked a screen, but I did accidentally throw my phone in the washing machine with a load of laundry. :)

Reply

Oh man right after I bought my Droid, I cracked the screen, well more like smashed. I was walking home after a run and I went to get my phone out of my ifitness belt and it flipped right out onto the sidewalk, facefirst and skidded about 2 feet. The screen was completely shattered! I was mortified. Thank goodness for carrying insurance on phones otherwise I would have been completely screwed! lol

Reply

HEY now! I eat the orange gummy bears. But they could stop making yellow and GREEN.
I drove a Chevy Chevette and a Dodge Aspen in high school. STYLISH!

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I drove this white Ford Escot with red interior. It was rockin’!

p.s. the green and yellow gummy bears are my favorite!! you can send me all of yours. ;)

Reply

Love the outfit!! Sorry to hear about your phone!

Reply

Can’t wait to see Brooke in that outfit!!! In highschool I drove a purplish kia sportage and in college my sister and I shared a white honda civiv.

LOL about the gummy bears – and my biggest gripe is that you have to eat them in a well lit area to make sure you don’t confuse yellow with clear.

I drove an ’88 gold Toyota Camry in high school. Bought myself a brand new Escort ZX2 halfway through college.

I am in full agreement over the Brooke Shields senmget of MJ’s memorial. There were some great moments, with Magic Johnson telling a very funny, and real, story, but Brooke really made this enigmatic singer look so utterly human I couldn’t help but be incredibly touched. Plus, when Jermaine (my favorite Jackson) came on and sang Smile right afterwards, I burst out in tears. MJ will be remember for a lot of things, but it’s obvious his family, and those who really got to know him, loved him immensely. Also, I wish the best for his children.
