Just let me have ONE more post that I can talk about the one day a year where I am not the only person that eats ridiculous amounts of candy.

First, I have to show you my cutest nephew (character from Harry Potter) and nieces (a Jr. Chef and a Poodle).   I sure miss running around the neighborhood together seeing how many houses we can hit up for candy before it gets dark.  Maybe I can convince Billy next year that Halloween is in fact a big enough holiday for me to fly home for.

After our trick-or-treating extravaganza yesterday afternoon we were quite exhausted from walking up and down a street for an hour and a half (I need to get running again… my endurance is fading quickly).  We chose a diner called Bills based solely on the fact that it usually has a huge line out the building.  That is the best way to tell if a restaurant is good.

We were right.  We split the blueberry pancakes and breakfast burrito with the perfect hash browns.  I will be going back to Bill’s.  ***Please note:  do not take all of my food recommendations seriously because I pretty much love any and all restaurants and foods (except for olives).

Girl is getting STRONG and her mohawk is growing longer and longer everyday.  11 WEEKS!!!!  It feels like just yesterday that I was flying to California, going into labor 10 hours later and staying with people we had never met before because we didn’t have an apartment yet.

For dinner we went over to a friend’s house for incredible taco salads.  If you are considering moving, I highly recommend coming here just for the avocados.

Photo 2

Not many trick-or-treaters showed up and so we were forced to finish off the candy for them.

Photo 3

Our next stop was a Halloween party and we had these cookie sandwiches with frosting in the middle.  Cookie sandwiches are genius because it is a great way to make it socially acceptable to eat two cookies at a time loaded with frosting.

Brooke’s first Halloween was a complete success.  Time to start making sure that her first Thanksgiving will be amazing by making her a turkey costume.

How many trick-or-treaters came to your house?

Are you a picky eater or the opposite of a picky eater like me?

What was your Halloween night filled with?

Favorite pancake mix-in?

-Usually chocolate chips but those blueberries were pretty darn good.

So glad you had fun! I LOVE Brooke’s mohawk!

We had a blast too. Out neighborhood is full of awesome parents and kids so a group of 8 parents and 15+ kids trick or treated together. I really loved it!

I’ve missed seeing photos of your nieces and nephew- so cute! Can you believe you still get to eat on a patio at the end of October?! Every time you miss your family, you should remind yourself of those bonuses!
Blueberries and raspberries are my fave pancake mix-ins, especially if they’re a little sour!
We only had just over 50 trick or treaters. We seriously had candy for 200. I was giving kids 8 chocolates and candy each!
Happy November!

Looks like you had a fabulous halloween! Those pancakes look sooo good! People think I am a picky eater because I eat (mostly) healthy. However, the only food I really don’t like is most types of cheese and flan.

My Halloween consisted of working:-(

We only had one group of trick-or-treaters but we have away all the chocolate so I don’t have to worry about it sitting around the house! I’m so glad Brooke had a successful holiday!!

Reply

I had NO trick-or-treaters but I’m not complaining- more choc for me hahah!

Brooke’s mohawk is the cutest! You had quite the full filled Halloween! I spent mine working, then making dinner, handing out candy, and then I went out for a run. We had a lot of trick or treaters but I feel like there were more last year. I used to be super picky but now I am more normal, but I certainly do not eat everything.

Brooke is too freaking cute.

We only had about 6 trick or treaters because they essentially canceled Halloween here because of the storm. We had so much leftover candy. I made Mike take a bunch of it to work so I wouldn’t make myself sick and eat only candy all day. I saved some, though.

I’m not really a picky eater, but I am a vegetarian which can come across as picky I guess.

We had no trick-or-treaters, but I’m pretty sure that’s because our doorbell doesn’t work. I really enjoyed taking the dog out for a late walk and seeing all the adorable little ones who were getting out just as night was falling!! It gets dark REALLY early here, so the sun had mostly set by 5:30.
I am a picky eater when it comes to certain veggies and foods, but I’m a total snob when it comes to baked goods. I have very stringent criteria. Go awesome or go home!! ;)

My Halloween was filled with a 7.5 mile run. I didn’t think I’d see any trick or treaters because a lot of people here go the weekend before Halloween for some silly reason. I was so excited when I made it a city over from us and all of a sudden I was running through tons of trick or treaters. It really made my night.

Reply

We just moved to a new house in a different part of our city, so I didn’t know what to expect as far as trick-or-treaters. In our old neighborhood, I would buy two 150-160 or more bags of candy, and give each kid one, and run out before the night was done. I bought the same amount for last night and got a whopping 16 trick-or-treaters! Including the parents that I shoved candy at by the handful. Le sigh! Oh, well.
I did dress up as a (pregnant) witch and my little dog was a pumpkin!

We had trick-or-treating rescheduled due to all the rain – so our Halloween-ing will continue until Saturday!

Omg please make Brooke a turkey costume!! Glad you had a fun Halloween! And cookie sandwhiches are genius, although personally I’d prefer one cookie and 3x the frosting…

Reply

Are those Halloween Peeps?!?!? I didn’t see those anywhere here in Alberta! My friends think they’re gross but they’re my favorite easter treat

Reply

Ok I’m making an ingredient list for a taco salad right now. I’ve never had one before but that one looks incredible, especially with all the avocados! I think you should bribe your friend to share the recipe, then post it ;)

Brooke is super adorable. I 100% agree on cookie sandwiches. I am not an overly picky eater, either – as long as the food isn’t mushy and tastes reasonable I think it’s fine. A friend of mine once told me it’s because I grew up in the midwest. I didn’t know what to think of that.

Reply

We didn’t get many kids here either… just one group of 4, who each got a big handful of candy… Looks like I’ll be eating KitKats and Smarties until Christmas ;) And given my current serious obsession with apples, I’m gonna have to go with those as my favorite pancake mix in.

Reply

We had SO many trick or treaters but I still overestimated how much candy to buy so now we have lots of left overs. Win :) I am like you, I will (and do) eat everything except olives. I HATE olives! And chocolate chips are def my favorite pancake add in, bananas are runner up.

Reply

Those costumes are too cute! We had a ton of trick-or-treaters last night. I’m sure it didn’t hurt your feelings to have to finish off the Halloween candy :)

Reply

We had 25, which is average for us. But still sad. Growing up we’d get 300 plus kids to our house!
I am semi-picky! If that makes sense.
Sour Skittles and Starburst! But I think I am in a candy-hangover today.
Pumpkin pancakes are my favorite right now, but really I love all pancakes.

Reply

My area never gets trick or treaters so my boyfriend and I headed out on a quick run and grabbed dinner- nothing too exciting. I’m like you when it comes to food. I like it all! (even olives!) ;)

Reply

I’m still not sure how they left you get on that plane in the first place that pregnant…if you mind telling that story I would love to know. I hope you didn’t bribe them with sour patch kids…you totally needed all those you could get for labour!!! haha

Reply

Because let’s be honest…candy is the best fuel for ANY endurance!!!

Reply

No trick-or-treaters at my apartment. Halloween wasn’t the same because of the hurricane. :(
I love banana pancakes or blueberry. I really want to make pumpkin pancakes!

Reply

We had close to 100 trick or treaters. I even made a candy run because I was worried about running out of candy. We have never had that many kids ring my door before!

I used to think I was a picky eater, but I am finding that was more of an orthorexic voice talking, maybe? I used to think overly sweet or overly greasy food gave me a belly ache, but I am learning that is not the case. So many things used to give me a stomach ache I was afraid of lots of foods. Now that they don’t, I feel like wow is this how normal people live…..IT’s AWESOME. Don’t get me wrong I love a HUGE salad and every fruit known to man, but having dessert without discomfort is huge for me!!

Aww your nieces and nephews look so adorable!
Brooke’s mohawk is styyyyyyyling!
I’m glad you had a great night!

Brooke’s mohawk is too cute!
I am the opposite of a picky eater, which is why I have to exercise all the time!
We didn’t have many trick or treaters, but stayed up late watching The Shining! Creepy!

Reply

We didn’t have any Trick or Treaters :( I’m pretty picky.

Reply

Haha I LOVE Brooke’s hair! We were at our church for most of the night for a “Costume Party” with our youth kids so I’m not sure how many trick-or-treaters we would’ve gotten, but I’m guessing quite a few considering we got several knocks on our door before we even left at 6 PM. We live in a pretty young neighborhood, so there’s lots of little kids! I would’ve loved to see some of the adorable costumes.

Reply

It’s amazing how much candy and food you can eat!!! If I ate half of that, I’d be twice my size, LOL! I know it’s probably because you’re so active….maybe I should take up running just to be able to eat more! Haha. I love that you’re a blogger who likes to indulge…so many of these bloggers eat things that I would never eat! Love your blog, and always look forward to reading it. And you have the cutest baby ever!

Reply

Total opposite of a picky eater. You name it, I eat it.

LOVE the mohawk!

Reply

Love the mohawk! We spent the evening at our Church’s Fall Festival.

Reply

We had an OVERLOAD of trick-or-treaters and gave out 5 bags of candy!

Reply

I love those Halloween costumes!! SOOO cute!! We only got two trick or treaters so our Halloween night was filled with eating the left over candy. :) I’m definitely the opposite of a picky eater! I love mostly everything!

Reply

Total opposite of a picky eater. Your nieces and nephew look adorable…great costumes! Last night I took my kiddos trick-or-treating and ate way too much candy, but that’s what Halloween’s for, right!?!?!

Reply

We’re usually in an apartment for Halloween, so this was the 1st time we had a house. We got about 50-60 kids. We only have about 15 pieces of candy left over. It was cool to see all the costumes. There was this ~5 year old little boy dressed up as wolverine (with all the huge muscles and everything) and he tried to give me candy. It was so cute!

Janae-
I love this post!! :) I just love that when I’m not in the best mood, I can read your blog and it makes me happy. Thank you for that. At this moment today, I really needed it.

Have a great day today!

Thank you Whitney! Hope things are okay and I am the best email pen pal ever if you need to talk!

Awe, thank you, Janae! I appreciate that! I definitely might take you up on that!

PS. I am planning to run the Napa Valley Marathon in San Fran March 3rd. You should look into it! I would love to meet you when I come! :) I have never been to the West Coast or CA, so I am SUPER excited! AND it will be my first marathon!

Reply

Ahhhh that is so so exciting! Yes we will have to meet!!!

It is! :) Sounds like a plan!

DH said we had over 60 kids in under 30 minutes. He ran out of candy.
The rest of the night was filled with watching Survivor and Halloween.
I am a picky eater. Mainly because I don’t like cheese.
Chocolate Chips!!!

I pretty much love anything, too. Makes things easy when we go out because I can enjoy almost all cuisines and can always find stuff on the menus that I like.
Ooooh Bill’s… YUM. I think it was at Bills where they have a Frosted Flakes and Strawberries pancake… it’s rather Bill’s or Stacks.
Your nephews and niece are growing, too (like Brooke)!

Reply

Oh man, Janae. We’re like food twins! All the candy we consume and our dislike of olives (seriously, pretty much the only food I don’t touch). I can’t eat gluten, but truth be told, I have been lenient about that lately because pregnancy alone does a number on my digestive system. I’m not going to notice if I have a breadstick (or 2….) with dinner. I’m gearing up for a preggo Thanksgiving. THAT WILL BE EPIC (as will the indigestion that follows).

Reply

So glad you had a great Halloween week! :) My favorite pancake mix in would have to be pumpkin. It seriously makes the best pancakes!

Reply

I’m super picky (hence the name of my blog) but I pretty much want everything you’ve ever posted on your blog. Today’s craving: those amazing cookie sandwiches! I’ve had them before and I just can’t get enough! I also love pancakes and the grapes in the background of one of your pictures made me want them even more. They’ve been missing from my life lately. I think I need to change that.
So asusual, thanks for sharing your delicious eats! You neve fail to make me hungry :)

Reply

What a fun Halloween! So sad that they FORCED you to eat the candy. I mean c’mon! hahaa ;)

Love her mohawk. Such a cutie.

Reply

Brooke looks so much like her Daddy! So cute!

Reply

We had about 15 trick-or-treater’s which is a good turn out for us because our street is a little dark! It’s ok though because the hubs had to go out and get some more candy and then no one showed up after that, so we had to keep it :) Perfect!

Reply

I just love Brooke’s hair! So cute!
We didn’t get any trick or treaters!
I’m a super picky eater!
Our Halloween night was filled with shopping, pizza, and the Charlie Brown Halloween special!
Favorite pancake mix-in = blueberries, for sure!

Reply

We only got four groups of trick of treaters all night! And three of the groups were just high school students! The one tiny, tiny girl who came dressed up in a pink super girl costume was the cutest thing ever, though. Just wish there had been more!

Reply

Happy (belated) Halloween! I’m loving Curly’s poodle costume. Too cute! I spent my Halloween at the World Series parade in SF – no costume, but I was definitely decked out in orange and black, so that counts, right? I had absolutely no trick-or-treaters, but I also didn’t have any Halloween candy, so that’s probably a good thing!

Reply

You are not alone. I ate SO SO SO much candy yesterday that I didn’t want to eat any real food (lunch, dinner, etc). This in turn made the baby in my belly super duper wiggly all day yesterday (which was kind of awesome). But hey, it’s Halloween, it’s allowed!!

And cookie sandwiches with frosting in between – my FAVORITE. Better than two cookies with ice cream in between!! Hmm, I think I just thought of a dinner idea for tonight … :)

Reply

We didn’t have any trick or treaters and we didn’t even buy any candy for them…I wasn’t expecting any, we live in the middle of nowhere. We didn’t do anything either…my husband and my oldest had stuff at church and the other two and I just stayed home.

I’m really not too picky…I’ll eat most anything if it’s served to me, there are things that I’d never choose to eat. So you could say, I’m a polite eater…I’ll eat it whether I like it or not so nobody feels bad :)

I’m a big fan of blueberry pancakes…

You seriously have one of the most adorable kids ever.

Reply

We don’t get any trick-or-treaters because we have a hidden driveway. :) We spent our night making homemade pizza, snuggling on the couch, and watching movies. It was perfect.

I am the total opposite of a picky eater. I eat anything and everything. I’m not a huge fan of olives, but I do like them sometimes. The only thing I don’t like is black licorice. Bleh.

Pancakes…chocolate chips or blueberries. Those two are always the best!

Reply

I don’t get any trick or treaters because I live in a high-rise building. So, more candy for me, haha. Although last night I sliced my finger while making a salad, so maybe it was bad karma to have all that candy for myself…

Reply

I love how in the picture of you girls at the restaurant little Brooke is sleeping in her lobster costume in her stroller- cracks me up! :D
I seriously would love a pile of those pancakes right about now. I cannot get enough of them, I made them for dinner last night.
Brooke’s mohawk…oh my gosh….ADORABLE!! Don’t ever cut it, please!!! :)

Reply

I think Brooke is doing a plank! She will have abs of steel. :)

Reply

i read this post before going for my run and those pancakes were literally ALL i could think about the whole way! :P

i’m picky in what i’ll pick off of a menu or what i want to eat, but once it’s served i’m not picky…if that makes sense…lol. my taste buds aren’t all that great at picking out subtleties, so whether it’s a $2 pancake stack or served in some fancy restaurant, i’ll usually love them equally. something has to be BAD for me to outright notice it. :P

Bills is my favorite breakfast spot in San Jose!! One time I worked up the courage to order their Oreo pancakes… really good but better if you share :) Be careful, they are known for encouraging patrons to take tequila shots at breakfast! Yikes!

it goes so fast, can you believe she is almost 1/4 of a year old? Don’t block me for telling you that..just cherish every moment.

It makes me super happy that Harry Potter is still popular with the youth. I’m only 20 and im reading the books for the first time. Im just about to finish the 5th one. It was definitely huge with my generation (and probably ALWAYS will be with us) but I gotta say, i was definitely worried that the Hogwarts effect was wearing thin. So THANK YOU nephew!

Reply

Brooke is just so darn precious!! Love her ‘hawk :)
Bill’s is yummy! it was my first post race breakfast ever and was oh so good. It does get crowded at each of it’s locations. There’s one closer to the SCU campus off Naglee and Bascom across from Zanotto’s.
We went up to the city for the SF Parade. I left a bowl of candy out and by the time we got home there was only 1/4 left. Then we had 2 actual trickortreaters when we settled in for the night :) Though we do have a TON of candy left over.
