Janae, that was a really good idea to eat that the night before a race.

First stop of the night was to go see my cutest friend Paige!  We knew each other back in Provo and she is originally from the area and it had been way too long since I last saw her.  We used to go to spin and yoga together…those were the days.

After I got to see Paige, the family and I headed across town to dinner with bloggers.   Food, city, bloggers, birooke (billy and brooke’s names combined) = heaven.

We went to a cute little restaurant called Sauce (picture from Billy’s instagram.  What did we do before Instagram’s awesome filters?).

Maria, Jaqueline, Mike, Skinny Runner, Stuftmama, me, baby.  Love all of them.

And a few more pictures of everyone’s faces.

Thanks Kristin for letting me steal your instagram photo.

Brooke couldn’t look at the camera because she was really paying attention to the riveting conversation at the table.

Billy and I both ordered the double bacon cheeseburger.  I even ate the side salad so let’s see how things go this morning after eating a double cheeseburger and vegetables the night before a race.  Good thing I am running just for fun today and taking it nice and easy.

Hope you are having the best Sunday morning and I will be back in a few!

Have fun today, Janae! This morning I went to yoga, enjoyed my typical morning smoothie, and the rest of the day is dedicated to school!

Love that last picture of “birooke” at the table!

Good luck Janae!!
Worst thing I ever ate before a race was spicy Indian food. I don’t recommend it!

I ate a salad and a whole bag of pirates booty before my half (nervous much??). It didn’t go well… Haha. Have fun today!

Whoa my stomach is upset just thinking of a double cheeseburger. But you’re a superstar and will be fine no matter what you eat. I am always a teeny bit jealous if your blogger meet ups, I imagine they are a blast.

My two favorite bloggers at one table…how cool is that! I usually eat some kind of pasta the night before. Before my marathon I made a big bowl of goulosh. Have fun!!

What a fun meet up! Jealous! Umm…hope everything is ok today. I kind of threw up in my mouth looking at the double cheeseburger. ;)

Before I found out that I’m highly fructose intolerant (actually, it’s what diagnosed me as being such) I was using dates to fuel my longer runs. Which caused many HIGHLY unpleasant digestive effects. Thank goodness it wasn’t a race and that I found out about the intolerance before I started racing.
Favourite pre-race supper is pasta with sweet potato, beets, and cauliflower with tilapia. Bedtime snack of 1/4 belgian waffle with banana and PB. Yum!!
Getting home from work, making a half-waffle/half-pancake breakfast, and getting ready for a sleep!!
Race fun, Janae!!! Enjoy the moment!

Enjoy the race today! Your dinner last night looks amazing! That picture of Birooke is so cute :)

No plans for this morning. Visiting my mom in the hospital later this afternoon and doing some grocery shopping afterwards. Those are the only two things I have planned for the day and I’m excited to sit and watch TV the rest of the day!!

Good Luck!!! :)

Waking up too early, eating pancakes, and catching up on all things blog that I was away from yesterday!

Good luckk! 3 things I loved about my morning: my massage, breakfast in my pjs and getting my hair done at the salon :)

Eating oatmeal, watching the Toronto Waterfront Marathon on TV and working on a paper. That’s easy to do with a distracting TV on in the background, right?!

Reply

Have fun Janae! Worst decision was drinking a sugar free energy drink from the expo the day before the race–both me and my BIL were burping it up throughout the race and almost threw up.

Reply

have a great time, now I want a burger!

Reply

Hope you have a fun race today! Enjoy it, in that case the side-salad should be okay!

You know what? I think what we eat before races is primarily mental. Sure, there are some things that might affect our bodies slightly differently, but for the most part we have this idea in our heads that we “can’t” eat something before our races without something bad happening, and then we blame it on the food if something does happen. So go for that double cheeseburger! Maybe it will be your new running secret :)

Also, you capture the BEST expressions of Brooke. Your timing is perfect every time… Maybe you should have a job as a photographer on the side!

Have fun and good luck today, Janae!!

Have an awesome time at the race today, Janae! Worst thing I ever had before running was kombucha… talk about uncomfortable. And this morning’s agenda includes coffee, breakfast, and church.

Reply

I had chili one night and then went for a run with my husband. We were miserable but laughed about it later . Lol
Have a great run!

I’ve had the opposite morning to you! Lazed in bed quite late, eventually dug out breakfast and spent 2hra catching up on Strictly Come Dancing from last night. Heaven! Good luck for today’s race – you’ll kill it as always :)

Reply

I ate chicken and rice before Tough Mudder. Today I’ll be trying to rest because Im sick. The kids are anxious for Halloween so we might go costume shopping.

Another race, wow you are unstoppable! I’ve never run a race before, so if I ever do get around to working toward a 5k, I will need to do tons of research to figure out the right things to fuel myself the night before a race and race morning. I have the feeling my usual “all veggies all the time with plenty of cheese thrown in for good measure” style of eating wouldn’t be the best tactic.

Worst prerace meal was nothing but hot wings and Malbec. No water. First BQ. Hah!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Looks like a fun meetup! (And that bacon cheeseburger looks amazing. I almost said divine, but my nice Jewish guilt kicked in too much.)

Have an awesome run!!!!

Tried to sleep in a bit (7:30am is pretty good for me), heading to the gym for stepmill and elliptical then meeting up with great friend to do some damage at Lulu Lemon…yay!!

You’ll do great, have so much fun! Lovin’ your blog and pics of Brooke are so flippin’ cute. I’m a brand new runner, as in three weeks into my new hobbie, and get so much motivation from your blog :)

Reply

Enjoy the run! Looking forward to seeing your post! Today I am going to eters bakery to pick up some cake, then to parents for birthday brunch and then to studio to paint.

Have a super fun race. This morning I am going to do some nutrition research (gotta focus on something while injured), go grocery shopping, and hopefully start some homework!!

Reply

A big, fat sundae from Ghiradelli the night before the Disney Princess half. BAD. I have found that if I just eat normal (or Michael’s spaghetti) I am fine for races.
This morning, I have vacuumed the floors, cleaned the bathroom and cleaned the kitchen.
I think I will go for a hike later!

That race is on my list of dream races for sure :) It wasn’t before a race but I have learned that I cannot eat Flaming Hot Cheetos if I want to run at all that upcoming week. That was a hard and sad lesson learned LOL

Reply

Well, I understand WHY you ate that cheeseburger and fries- it looks DELICIOUS!!! Have so much fun racing in my favorite city!!!! :) this morning i’m eating strawberries and bananas, figuring out what we’re doing for dinner (more than likely leftovers…) and going to church!

Reply

Good luck today!

I went to church, made breakfast, doing laundry, having coffee withdraws because I forgot to buy creamer yesterday which may result in a stop at Starbucks here shortly. Next up a very brief meeting and then on to a birthday lunch/party for my cousin who’s turning 14.

Reply

good luck janae! you won’t need it though. that cheeseburger looks amazing!

One time I super pigged out and ate WAY too much Chinese food. Though I didn’t really have a lot of digestion problems… it was seriously unnecessary considering that I was only running a 5-mile race.

Reply

What a fun group! Well, iron gut–I think you will be fine! ha ha!! You are braver than I! So, Brooke looks like she has your eye color? Or do baby’s eye color change as they get older, I forget!

Excited for you today and know you are currently kicking bootie!

I know lots of people eat oatmeal for breakfast before a race, nut I tried it once and let me tell you-NEVER AGAIN. Once my rm & I ran a half after eating chocolate chip pancakes with PB on top. We groaned about our bad choice (albeit a delicious choice ) the whole time.

Wake up & get the kids ready for 9am church while Ross is at meetings, help Anna give her talk in primary and lounge with my fave people the rest of the day.
I hope you had so much fun at your race today. I can’t wait to hear …errr read all about it. I think I would have died a little bit if I would have been at your dinner table last night with you fantastic runners.

Reply

Coach grub, otherwise known as the chocolate recipe on the chex cereal box lol so so good but really bad right before a race.

I normally try to keep things the same so my stomach doesn’t get thrown off

sleeping in (done), writing a blog post (in the works), and skyping with Chum Chum (happening very very soon)

good luck on your race!! :)

I ate an alligator (triangle chocolate glazed donut with cream and filling stuffed inside) before my first marathon and have eaten once ever since for all my marathons. It’s basically a tradition now. That should be the worst thing, right?

Actually the worst thing was broccoli. I love broccoli, but I ate too much broccoli the night before and well, you don’t need me to describe what happened afterwards. I learned my lesson though to stay away from veggies the night before!

Reply

I like Brilly better for Brooke and Billy!!

Reply

I do too… Thank you! I will now be using that one!

Reply

Hope the race went great today!! Three things I did this morning: wished my husband Happy Birthday, got ready for church, and had a blast (as always) serving at our church all morning! :)

Reply

It was so nice to see you & your little family again.
I look like I’m a little freaked out in that pic. Ha!
Thanks again for the invite.

Reply

You probably don’t remember my desperate email after my first half asking what I did wrong and why I got sick. Yeah, I think it was fuel problems but also too much water. After reading this months Runners World I’m pretty certain. Love the purple pants.

Reply

What a fun pre-race night!!

Reply

All y’all are absolutely beautiful! Not so sure I could stomach a bacon cheeseburger before a big race but more power to ya ;P

Reply

Uhh, yeah. Bad Pre-race food choices = poo. I’ve learned my lesson. Who knew veggies would stab me in the back like that?
I would love any advice about what the best race week meals are. If not, I’ll be calling you soon :)

I don ‘t really have traditions when it comes to races yet, and I’ve only done 5K’s so far so I feel like it might make more of a difference for longer distances. I have general rules though – no Mexican, spicy, or Chinese food the night before and nothing too heavy or acidic the morning of. I just try to eat healthy or have pasta the night before and have some toast and fruit before hand.
