Spiky has returned and Running Times

Brooke’s morning hair today reminded me of the good old days of when I called her Spiky.

Can we also just talk about her cheeks for a moment?

After a quick 4 mile run on the treadmill (I am planning on doing 15 tomorrow so I wanted to keep it shortish) Brooke and I read Running Times together on the couch before I showered.

She especially loved reading About Dathan Ritzenhein because she remembers hearing my interview with him when she was still in my stomach.

Dathan has had a ton of injuries in the past and so this is what he is doing now to still stay at the top (he just got a new PR at the Chicago marathon of 2:07:47) and not get hurt again.

I SERIOUSLY want to try out an underwater treadmill and AlterG machine.

Don’t you love how napping is part of an elite athletes job!?!

Check out his blog… it is a great resource for information and he just did a post about marathon recovery.  He also had a great post about race day strategy, tips and prep!

I used to strength train at least 3 times per week. lately, not so much. But after sunday I definitely plan to make it a priority.

my biggest mileage day will be sunday (I record weeks mon-sun) when I run a marathon.

26.2 miles!

Target, but I’ve always loved target.

Planning a 15 miler for Saturday evening .. fingers crossed that the rain holds off. I might break it into two and combine it with the shorter I have planned for Sunday. We’ll see!! :)
Strength training is only 1-2 times a week now that I’m still doign a fair amount of biking, but will hopefully make one of those a heavier day and add one more per week once I put the bike away (the beginning of November). It’s SOOOO key to injury prevention!!
Lovelovelove that Spikey is back!! I can’t wait to see her hair longer though! Bet she is going to absolutely rock the short pigtails!! :)

What is an underwater treadmill?

Napping is completely acceptable in my job. ROCK ON! I take advantage of it to, every time.
Half marathon this weekend, not much running since my last long run and trail run. I’m having foot nerve pain and don’t want to start out the race sore. Let’s just say I’m going to be running for the medal – not the time. Plus there is going to be TONS of friends there and that is the best!
I missed Brooke. She wasn’t in the last post and I started to have withdrawals. I’m sure you can’t resist her cheeks, or you would be dead inside.

Not enough strength here. But trying to get back to at least 2 if not more.
I did 11 yesterday (split into two sessions) and will do 11 tomorrow. Not really looking forward to it though.

How do you motivate yourself for a run when you are just not feeling it?

Hello!

I do gymnastics and aerial hoop as well as running which is great for strength, particularly arms though…. Not so much those running legs! This weekend I’m hoping to do 10 miles.

My favorite store to go into recently is more of a coffee shop… They do the loveliest chocolate rocky road and I think I’m addicted.

Have a good weekend! Ive taken inspiration from the American Autumn menu & will attempt to make pumpkin cookies this weekend.

I have been to Target three times this week. I keep “needing” things!

Some people like to go to Target a couple of times a week… often I end up there a couple of times a day!

Longest run ever this Sunday… 13 miles!

Brooke’s hair is adorable! :)

-Her cheeks are so precious!!!
-I do 2-3 strength sessions a week
-I didn’t have a long run this week because I’m running a half on Sunday morning! (super nervous and excited–it’s only my second half marathon!)
-TJ’s and Target are my absolute favorite stores, but dangerous too because I always leave with things that weren’t on my list!

I really want to try underwater treadmills as well as AlterG running. I ran in our pool once and it was harder than I expected. But a lot of fun. Brooke is the sweetest.
I want to do 2 strength session but am currently working 1 plus 1 day of cross training. I ran 45 minutes longest this week and plan 60 minutes tomorrow. As I am in winter training I am not worrying about actual training miles but rather about minutes spent running. I want to reach a safe base.

Napping as a job?! I’ll take it.

Have fun at Target…and be careful ;)

We can definitely talk about her cheeks because they’re absolutely the cutest thing ever. Cute enough to pinch, except that sounds kind of painful (and annoying) so I’ll refrain ;)

Brooke is getting cuter by the day – and it is great you are teaching her to read only what’s important!

Chapters hehe I love books

She is so darn precious!

I love your blog! I always look forward to reading it and seeing pics of your sweet baby girl. Target has been on point lately with their clothing. I am currently repping a plaid shirt from there that my fiance loves…WIN!

I am planning on running 8 miles Sunday morning as long as my shoes allow it, since the past two weekends they have made my feet really sore (time for new ones!) This will be my longest run ever so far. :)

I am so jealous of anyone who gets to nap as part of their job!

I got some sessions on an AlterG treadmill through Groupon, and it was the BEST decision ever!! It seriously is an awesome experience. Saving my pennies till I can buy one for myself!

Reply

What is an alterG machine? So curious.

My longest run this week was 26.2 miles :-). This weekend I can run however far I want and I’m not taking a watch!

Reply

I try to do some kind of strength training at least twice a week.
My biggest mileage day this week was 18.2 miles (in San Francisco).
That’s so true about how running might not be as simple as it seems (especially as the miles really get up there).

Reply

Brooke is so adorable! She reminds me so much of my little girl when she was that age… don’t you just love that baby smell?!
Longest run this week was 14, and long run this weekend will be 18.

Reply

Sound like my day except yours is 100% better since you have Brooke to go with you. My kids are grown by now so I have to do this all by myself.

Reply

I’m on taper so my longest day was 7.5 which was a speed day aka death :/ And my longest run is going to be 6 miles this weekend because my coach put a cap on me knowing that I’d try to push it to the limit…
You and Brooke are absolutely adorable! It looks like you have so much fun together!
Enjoy your long run- I’m jealous

Reply

No long run for me this weekend because I’m running my first race since getting injured! It’s a 15k and at this point I just want to break 7’s – so pathetic. All my speed went away :(

Reply

My longest run this week was 20 miles — my longest run ever! My “long” run this weekend will be the 5K portion of the SheROX sprint triathlon in San Diego!

Reply

I am currently lifting arm weights every other day because it’s the only exercise I can do with my hip injury. Hopefully I will start physical therapy soon so I can add to that and get out running again.

This was inspiring. Thought I share with you.

Have a great weekend!

I definitely don’t do enough strength training, but I’ve gotten back on the bandwagon this week and I feel so much better!

Reply

i’ve got 16 tomorrow! 3 weeks away from race day. brooke’s hair is super cute

Reply

Biggest mileage is tomorrow’s long run of ten miles. Favorite store to go to lately is Trader Joe’s and Costco. I do strength twice a week or at least I try.

Reply

I love the spiky hair! Not quite sure how many miles I will run this weekend yet, I am nursing a sore knee. I am meeting a friend to run her in the last six miles of a marathon Sunday, and the distance will depend on how far away I have to park!

Reply

I flipping love Target!!!

Reply

I tend to split 3 run days and 2 lifting days, depending on what I am doing. My favorite store lately is Targte. I can’t go int there without spending about 10$ more than I intended to spend, and my high mileage day this week is a low 3. I’m not training for any big races right now so I’m keeping my miles short. Next week I intend to up that to five or so, though.

Reply

Umm..no strength sessions for me! I get too bored so its just running 3x a week and softball 1x a week

this is a short run week so 3 miles, but next weekend I’ll be running my farthest distance yet–14 miles…gulp!

Target is always my go-to store for everything!

Reply

So glad ‘spikey’ has made a comeback! she is so cute I can’t even handle it!

Reply

Oh how I miss Target!!

I try to get some strength training in 2-3 times a week. It’s not my favorite but I usually combine it with some HIIT to make the time fly by.

Reply

60 MINUTES SPENT STRETCHING?!?!? That’s about 60 more minutes than I do. Wow. I think an anti-gravity treadmill would be so cool! I don’t even know what that set-up looks like…

Reply

Napping needs to be part of my day too ;)! I am currently doing 3 strength training sessions a week, and loving it! Have a great Saturday!

Reply

How many strength-work sessions do you do a week?

Two-ish – one in a boot camp type thing and then one with our TRX suspension thing, you should get one. you can anchor it to a door and Brooke can hang out while you do that. No gym required. We love it.

What was your biggest mileage day this week?

Not a mileage week, recovering from my half last Saturday and moving this Saturday so no big runs.

What is your long run this weekend?

Moving boxes. Word.

Absolute favorite store to go to lately?

The kids’ consignment store where I get money for my kids’ clothes. I like getting money from a store instead of losing it.

When I studies sports science, we tested out aqua-jogging. It’s great for athletes that are injured, or if you want a low impact workout (instead of the elliptical).
Basically, you slow-mo run in the deep end of the pool. We had our cardio belts on, and our heart rates did go up a bit…but it’s obviously not as intensive as regular running!

I want to try an AlterG so much. I was at a wellness fair this week and they offered to let me use theirs, but I didn’t have time. Bummer.

My longest run this week is probably going to be 10 miles. Yay for marathon season being over and no insane training runs on Saturdays for a bit.

Reply

I got really focused on running these past few months and have neglected my strength training, so I have committed 30 minutes 4X a week for weights. 2 days upper, 2 days lower, all days core.
