Yep, I am 100% nervous about my race this morning.  Even though I keep telling myself to just enjoy it and have fun I have a slight feeling that my competitive side might come out.

I love every little part of the expo.  The energy, running nerds everywhere, samples, running gear…everything!

The course, just in case you wanted to drive from wherever you are to come cheer for me and give me swedish fish (I will also accept sour patch kids) along the way.

Last night I had a girls night because our husbands all had something to go to for church and so we decided to do our favorite things: Target, candy, go out to eat.

Some people don’t believe in dressing rooms.   She got those sweet shorts for $4.88.  Once again Target proved to be the best store ever.

After Target we met up with some more awesome girls for dinner at BJ’s.  Dark picture because the picture with the flash made all of our eyes look evil.

Say hello to a deep dish white sauce pizza with tomatoes, chicken and artichokes.  The crust was really buttery which of course I loved.

The finale:

My friend and I had the trio pizookie and we chose the pb one, red velvet one (my favorite) and white chocolate chip macadamia nut one.  I may be regretting the pizookie overdose at mile 10 today.

Do you get nervous before races?

-Not usually but I have no idea where I am fitness/pace wise so I am really worried I will go out too fast and then crash…

Ever had a pizookie?

You will be awesome, as always! Don’t stress. Like you said, its been 4 months. You’ve had a little cutie, followed doctors orders, regained your strength, and are back doing what you love. So embrace it! Kick those nerves to the curb and smile, pace wherever your body feels good, and of course, have fun. Otherwise, what’s the point!? Can’t wait to read your post race. *Hugs*!!!

I’m sure you will do great! Have fun!!

What on earth is a pizookie?? Whatever it is, I”m sold- anything with vanilla ice cream is a win for me! GOOD LUCK with the race!!!

This rock no roll is my first half. I am sooooo freaking nervous. I know you are going to rock it Janae! You kick butt like that :) good thing you had a group a friends to help settle your nerves :)

Reply

You are a great runner! Just believe that you can do this, because you can. Just don’t expect too much from yourself and have fun! You have plenty of other races to kick that PR’s ass! :)

Reply

Janae- you’re going to do great! Whatever time you end up with.. all that matters is that you are out doing what you love- like you said you haven’t run this distance in 4 months- and Hello had a baby in that time :)

I love Target- fave things are running clothes and candy/other foods- can’t beat the prices. I always find myself in the candy aisle too haha- been loving some candy corn this year.

Janae, deep breaths! We all know you’ll do amazing!! Enjoy the run…Can’t wait to hear about it :)

Janae you are going to rock it! Have fun–the best part will being seeing Brooke afterwards:-)

You don’t need luck, so I’m not going to wish you any. But I am going to say that the more positive you are, the easier the race will be to run, mentally. So don’t go out to race hard, go out to race fun!!
I find that I don’t get nervous so much as antsy … I know that the hyperactivity need to go-go-go is probably my way of venting my nervousness and anxiety, but in the moment I don’t feel those emotions, which is fine by me!! (Unfortunately, my antsy antics tend to bother the people around me as it involves excessive amounts of bouncing and the occasional head-to-toe shake down.)
I’ve never had a Pizookie — in fact, I’ve never even heard of one. Is that weird? I’m thinking (by the name) that it’s a pizza-cookie … with what looks like ice cream …? Sounds interesting!! I’d definitely try one.
Also, I’ve never shopped at Target (Canadian!!), but I am EXTREMELY jealous of the Champion line and would hit that up within 0.4 sec of entering the store.
Can’t wait to read your race recap! :)

Best of luck today, Janae, you are such an inspiration… just the fact that you’re running a half marathon this soon after having beautiful Brooke is incredible, enjoy yourself!!

Race expos are so great….always a fun energy, plus free samples. I usually get a little bit nervous before a race….some butterflies in the tummy. Favorite thing to buy at Target is home decor stuff, but I pretty much love everything there. Good luck!! I know you’ll do great!

Good luck Janae. Yeah, I’d be regretting that food at mile 1 but you’ll be fine. :) I love buying Sophia’s clothes and hair accesories at Target, yes on the pizookie (so yum) and I LOVE expos. So much energy…as if everyone’s ready to break out racing into the expo. Ha ha. Jessica

I got those same shorts at Target, except in blue, and they chaffed big time…guess that’s what I get for $4.88.
I have never had a pizookie, I am going to attempt to make a pumpkin one today from a recipe I have been eyeing on pinterest. The red velvet cake one sounds amazing!

Reply

Good luck today! Hope you have a great race. So glad the weather cooled down after last weeks little heat wave! We LOVE pizookies. My kids have started making them when their friends come over. Messy but yummy;)

Reply

GOOD LUCK TODAY!!! Just get out there and absorb the energy, the scenery and the fresh air. This first race since giving birth should be a welcome back fun run for ya!

I get super nervous before races too! But I have to remind myself that I’m there to enjoy the ride and whatever happens timewise or placewise is just bonus!

I’m assuming that a pizookie is basically a pizza-like cookie? It sorta reminds me of that, except those pizookies are missing the candy toppings ;-) .

I love love Tar-jaay. I always buy their sparkling water in Pink Lemonade there. And check out their clearance clothing section too!

You are going to do amazing! You are not only an incredible athlete and runner but such a positive person. Go have a blast and just build from todays experience and all the races in your futur. Just want to thank you for inspiring me to train for a half (well once our baby is here:)

Is it strange that I’ve never heard of a Pizookie….but looks incredible so going to have to hunt one down or try making one.

No Target in Canada:( But whenever we’re in the States I go to every single Target store I see for running/workout clothes, slippers, comfy clothes, etc and foods we can’t get here.

Go rock that race!!

OMG! I have never had a pizookie but I want one. Now.

I’ve only run a couple races and both times I felt like I was going to vomit. So yes, I do get nervous. I’m nervous just thinking about it. GOOD LUCK!!! You’re going to be awesome.
Target=my happy place. I was there last night. Went in for Tide. Came out with a heck of a lot more. Love that place.

Reply

So your race has started and I know it will be great. Can’t wait to hear all about it!!!! I hope it’s tons of fun!

Ps. I can’t believe so many people have never tried a pazookie! That is a real shame. If you win that might have to be your next give away. ;)

You will rock that race Janae! Good luck and think of Brooke and Billy while you run : ) I want that pizza.

I’ve never had a pizookie, but they look incredibly delicious and my mission now is to find one.

Target is my absolute FAVORITE store. I could spend hours and hours just wandering the aisles and trying on clothes.

I’m tracking you right now and you are doing AMAZING!! speed demon!

good luck!! i love race expos because it gets me all pumped up for the race! =)

Can I just be the voice of reason here, and say that YOU ARE ABOUT TO RUN A HALF!!! AND YOU JUST HAD A BABY!! No matter how it goes, you are awesome – you are an inspiration, and any run – even if its a slow, arduous one – is worth being proud of! At the risk of sounding incredibly nineties – you go girl!

Reply

Thinking of you! Just checking in to see if there was a quick update with how you did, felt, etc. BEST of luck – you’re amazing for doing this so soon after childbirth! (My first half post-partum is on the 21st; 15 months after my little guy was born!)

Reply

OK…SOOOO impressed! 7:01/mile!! You should be SO proud and happy. Enjoy the rest of the day!

Reply

Wow! I am in awe of your time! Great job!

Reply

Seriously, showing up is the main thing. I’ve had such an awful day today because my performance anxiety and panic attacks got the better of me for the second time this year. I didn’t even make the start line. You are the real winner regardless of what happens because you had the guts to try, not the cowardice to give up for fear of failing.

I just got back from the San Jose RnR Half! I hope you enjoyed the race, Janae! Can’t wait to hear how it went :)

I am usually nervous before a half marathon and when I start my relay’s, but I’m better about 5K and 10K’s. My next half marathon (in 2 weeks) isn’t for time and I’m running with a friend that isn’t running for time either so we are hoping that together we can rein each other into an easy pace.
I have to say I’ve never been to an expo that impressed me too much. Maybe I’m not seeing something, I’ll pay attention next time.
Good Luck! Even though I know you are well done and finished by now!

Reply

I am sure you dominated the race, you are a speedy freak of nature (meant in the nicest way of course :) I can’t wait to hear about it. You seriously are such a running inspiration!
I have never even heard of a pizookie and have no idea what it is but I feel like I need one in my life right now.

Reply

I had my first pizookie last month, and OMG best thing EVER!!! I’m like your friend- not the biggest fan of dressing rooms, especially when you don’t HAVE to use them! Love those pink shorts!! And girl, you are going to ROCK it today!!! :)

Reply

ok, you are NUTS! I just looked at your results… CONGRATS …. be so proud of yourself!!!

Reply

I miss BJ’s so much! It’s easily one of my favorite restaurants. Utah definitely needs to get one… As for my favorite pizookie? I’m a fan of the good ol’ chocolate chip one. The Oreo one is my second favorite.

Reply

I do get nervous before every race…even ones that don’t mean anything. I have that inner competative side too! Best of luck and enjoy your race. Looks like a fun one to run!

Reply

Mmm the pizookie trio looks great!

Reply

Do you get nervous before races? Yes! I’m afraid I will do something horrible enough to forever embarrass myself and my family.

Ever had a pizookie? No and I very jealous of those three. Well, two actually. I could live without the PB&J one.

Favorite things to buy at Target? EVERYTHING! It’s a problem.

Do you enjoy race expos? I have never been to a great one. Yet.

I don’t mean to be all creep and stuff. But one of the girls in your dark, mysterious picture, is she named Stephanie with a cutie patootie little boy?

And yes, Pazookie’s make the world go round! Don’t believe those crazy “scientists”. It’s pazookies :)

Reply

Yes!!! That is Stephanie! How do you know her?!?

Reply

We went to church together before either one of us got married! I love her tons!!!

Reply

That is so fun!!! Come visit us both in Cali:)

Reply

I already LIVE in Cali. But I’m in the middle of the desert outside of LA. Perhaps I should find a race up there….

Reply

Yes please!

I do get nervous before races. But not always.
I have had a pizookie. Even bought the pans to make it at home.
Target, just about anything.
I DO enjoy race expos!

What is the best expo you have been to?

The Kidless Kronicles

Pizookie is my absolute favorite thing about BJs. The trio is about the best thing ever and they have so many flavors!
Great job on the race. With that 7:01 pace, it looks like it didn’t take you any time to get your speed back. :-)

Reply

I hear you! I did my first post-partum tri when my baby was four months old and I was pretty stressed, especially because both my husband and I did the race. The race itself sucked but I was stoked to finish, albeit much slower than I did in previous years. I wouldn’t have told you this if you hadn’t already run your race, btw:) I am sure you rocked it! Looking forward to a race report!

Reply

I get nervous before big races, but smaller races, it’s just starting line jitters right before we start.

Your night out looks pretty freaking awesome.

Reply

I get a little nervous before a race…..I just want to make sure I don’t embarass myself!

YESSSS – PIZOOKIES!! Love love love!

Favorite things at Target….going through their aisles of hair and beauty stuff. I also like the candy they have on sale after each holiday (November 1, December 26, February 15, and day-after-Easter….LOOK OUT!!)

Reply

No one can understand the awesomeness that is the pizookie until they’ve had one. My friend used to tell me – its this warm cookie with ice cream on top. My response was always – Mehh I can probably skip it…. Until I tried it. Ohhhhh yeah that is the best splurge ever. Have yet to try the red velvet. But I always remember I’d want PB and my friends never did. I got it one time and walked outside to take a phone call and it was nearly gone when I came back – so much for you guys not wanting the PB one!

I don’t usually get nervous before a race I just get more of the I can’t believe its actually here brain going on the morning of. After all the training and prep that goes into it (usually I travel for halfs these days so there is a lot of anticipation involved) I just can’t fathom that its going to be starting and over soon.
